The Junction City Blue Jay tennis team competed last week on Wednesday and Thursday. Coach Matt Micheel said on Wednesday, they fought their way to a 2nd place team finish. Doubles led the way for the Blue Jays as the #1 doubles team of David Trammell and Alan Leis won the championship by defeating Topeka Seaman’s top team in a tiebreaker. The #2 doubles team of Nate Rollins and Aidyn Thurn also made it to the championship, winning their two pool play matches in tiebreakers before dropping their championship match 8-3. The Blue Jays also entered another doubles team into the top doubles bracket. The team of Cole Goodwin and Memphis Platt earned a huge victory over Topeka Seaman’s top doubles team in their first match. They ended up going 2-1 on the day. In singles, Bo Sigrah went 2-1 and earned 3rd place. Major White was the other Blue Jay entry and he went 1-2 on the day.
On Thursday, the Blue Jays traveled to Derby for the Derby Invitational. Alan Leis and David Trammell led the Blue Jays, going 2-1 on the day and earning 5th place. All other entries went 1-2 on the day. Major White earned 4th place in the #2 singles bracket, while Nate Rollins and Aidyn Thurn earned 4th place in #2 doubles. Bo Sigrah finished off his day with his lone victory. The Blue Jay team finished 5th out of 8 teams in the Derby Invitational.
The Blue Jay tennis team next travels to Lawrence on Wednesday, April 17 for a quadrangular. Matches will be held at Rock Chalk Park and start at 3 pm.
