Geary USD 475 Board of Education have approved an Interim Facilities Master Plan that included a $2.4 million placeholder set-aside amount in fiscal year 2023 for the replacement of Morris Hill Elementary School on Fort Riley. Chief Operations Officer David Wild explained that a formal letter of invitation has not yet been received from federal officials for that purpose. But the District has been notified by two ( OLDCC ) sources that a letter will be forthcoming as soon as they settle on a date for presentation. "It is confirmed that they are going to invite the District to come meet with them about what we will do with Morris Hill Elementary."
The $2.4 million amount is a placeholder for the District's 20% share of the cost what USD 475 might propose to do with that school.
Another new elementary school is currently under construction on the site of the former Jefferson Elementary School on Fort Riley, and in recent years both new Seitz and Fort Riley elementary schools have been built on the military installation.
