Lisa C. Mazik-Kovatch

Lisa C. Mazik-Kovatch, age 54, of St. Mary's, Kansas, formerly of Bridgewater, Connecticut, passed away on Thursday, April 29th in Saint Marys, Kansas.   

Lisa was born on December 19, 1966 in New Braunfels, Texas, to her parents Cortney B. Davis and Paul E. Mazik, Jr.   

Lisa and her parents moved to Connecticut when she was two months old.  She was raised and attended schools in Bethel, CT.  One of her many talents was horseback riding, first pony clubbing and ultimately competing in the greater New York and New England areas in equestrian events at the Medal-Maclay level.  

After high school, Lisa graduated from Ultrasound Diagnostics School in New York as an ultrasound technician, then pursued additional education to specialize in cardiac and vascular ultrasound.  She was employed at Bridgeport Hospital in Connecticut and with Cardiothoracic Surgeons in New Haven. Connecticut.

After settling in Bridgewater, Connecticut, Lisa devoted her time and energy to making a home for her family.  She enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, cooking, baking, refinishing antiques, and raising chickens. She was also an avid lover of history. A devoted Catholic, she was active in her church, teaching Catechism and for many years homeschooling her children. Her greatest happiness was being with her family, watching her children grow and prosper.    

Lisa and family moved to Saint Mary's, Kansas in 2010. She was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer in October 2018, and while enduring ongoing medical and surgical procedures, Lisa continued to make her children a priority and provide them a stable home. When she was still in recovery, Lisa began painting "barn quilts"―hers is listed on the Flint Hills Quilt Trail. Lisa overcame any setbacks in her life with grace and determination, always adapting her talents to life's circumstances.  Her greatest joy was raising her four children.  She attended St. John Vianney Church in Maple Hill, Kansas.  

Lisa will be remembered for her love for her children and family, for the welcoming haven of her home, her intellectual curiosity, her quick sense of humor, and for her ability to live with bravery, faith, and purpose.  She has been taken from us too soon; she will be deeply missed but forever cherished by her children, her mother and step-father, her brothers and sisters-in-law, her nieces and all those whose lives she has touched.  

Lisa is predeceased by her father, Paul E. Mazik, Jr.; by her grandparents Phyllis and Paul Mazik, Sr.; and Roger and Marjory Davis.  She is survived by her children, Alexandra, Justine, Nathaniel, and Brigid of KS; by her mother, Cortney Davis and step-father Jonathan Gordon of CT; by her brothers Christopher (Lynn) Mazik of CT; Michael (Megan) Mazik of TX; and Nicholas Mazik of Kyrgyzstan; by her nieces Madisyn Mazik of CT, Ellie and Lauren Mazik of TX; by step-sisters Lisa (Jerrel Jones) Gordon of MA and Lauren (John) Lee of CT.

 A Funeral Mass will be offered at Sacred Heart Church in Paxico, Kansas at 10:30 a.m. May 6, 2021.  Burial will follow at the Old Stone Church Cemetery in Maple Hill at the discretion of the family.  In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the St. John Vianney Church Building Fund, and may be left in care of Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
