The JC Breakfast Optimist Club recognizes one Junction City High School Student of the Month each month during the school year. This program is coordinated by Dana Wiegand at JCHS and is supported by JC’s BBQ & Grill with a $25.00 gift certificate. A framed certificate was presented by the local Optimist Club.
David Thompson, son of Heather Thompson, is a senior at JCHS and is the October Student of the Month. He is in the Business, Public Service and Hospitality (BPSH) Academy, has been involved in Class Committees, golf, Art Club, Marching Band, Scholars Bowl and a been a member of the Beak Squad, which assists teachers and students with technology issues.
The nominees are selected based on the tenets of The Optimist Creed. David’s nomination was based on the statements: “to look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true; to wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile; and to give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.”
The nominator also wrote that David “helps his classmates when they have trouble understanding the concepts in computer and business classes, has volunteered both during and after school hours to help other students and teachers with their computers and even assisted the primary presenter at the latest Professional Development Day.”
David also is a Teacher’s Assistant in the library. “He even teaches the library clerks a few technical lessons, has an exciting spirit and is kind to both students and adults.” David plans to attend Fort Hays Northwest Technical College in Goodland, Kansas upon graduation from Junction City High School.
