Fresh Start Emergency Shelter seeks City budget funding

Fresh Start Emergency Shelter has asked the City of Junction City for $60,000 in funding for the next year ( 2027 ). That's up from 45,000 this year. No action has been taken at this point.

City Commissioners learned Tuesday night that Fresh Start has opened a night shelter program that began in January. It is open 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. There have been 63 participants in the program.

In other business:

--Freedom Fest is requesting $50,000  from the City for the 2027 festival. 

The 2026 celebration runs July 1-5. A total of 90 hotel rooms have been booked.

--William Thornberg has been appointed to a three year term on the Freeman Field Advisory Board ending Dec.21, 2029.

--Discharge of fireworks will be allowed in the City limits from 8 a.m. to  11 p.m. July 1-4.

No discharge of fireworks will be allowed within 300 feet of Heritage Park during Freedom Fest.

--Commissioners scheduled a budget session for 6 p.m. June 23.

--Commissioners authorized the city manager to apply for and administer a DCIP grant.

--They awarded a bid of $140,15 to J & K Contracting L.C. for Rimrock Park drainage improvements.

--A 14 day extension was granted to complete safety mesures and subnit a proposed timeline for reconstruction of the property at 617 North Washington.

--Public Works tree pick up will begin at curb and alleyway entrances June 22 and go from the south end to the north end of town.

--The City Building will be closed this Friday.
