Junction City will begin the upcoming boys wrestling season ranked fifth in Class 6A. Coach Tyler Gonzalez said that shows the strength of returning wrestlers for the Blue Jays, but not necessarily of the lineup. "You have Logan Nabus. With the changes in the boys weight classes Logan is looking at 175 pounds probably. He finished sixth last year and probably had a chance to be just a little bit higher than that. Being a senior obviously expecting a lot out of him."
Ezekiel Witt, Cooper Bogenhagen, Kaden Blake and Patrick Foxworth are some other returners.
On the girls side, a junior, Charly Goodwin returns to lead the way for Junction City. She finished fifth at 120 pounds at state last season. "My goal is to place top three, if not state champ. " She will wrestle at 120 pounds again this season. This is a sport she loves. "I still do. It's hard sometimes. But it's something you have to grow to love. You love and hate it, you know."
Junction City will host a dual tournament on Saturday that will include teams from Hays, Hutchinson, JC Harmon, Olathe West, Shawnee Mission Northwest, Wichita-North and Wichita-West. Competition will begin at 10 a.m.
