The Geary County Commission will support an amended veterans bill preventing certain disabled veterans from having to pay property tax. Under the amendment the state would help counties with more than three percent of their budget impacted.
Commissioner Trish Giordano noted that the County "can't help in one area and cause detriment to others." The impact on the County without the amendment would be 12%. Giordano noted that she was not against the bill but was concerned about how the initial measure would impact the community.
The County will submit a letter of support and Commissioner Alex Tyson plans to try and testify on the proposed bill. This measure does not involve retired veterans who are not disabled.
