Numerous ideas for the future structure of the Chamber of Commerce, EDC, Military Affairs operation and the membership division received attention during a joint City-County-Chamber Board meeting Monday night. No final action was taken. The leaders will mull over the information for awhile and consider public input.
Some key points made by individuals.
--The Chamber Membership Division can't afford to pay salary, rent and other expenses on their own. If the support of one or two financial institutions is removed the Chamber is done.
--Everyone should be kept together. The structure is fine. It's about leadership and a CEO is needed.
--Events that need support in the next few weeks include MAC and New Teacher breakfasts.
--The MAC structure needs to be a priority.
--Formation of an organization called a JCPA where the City and County with the JCPA would be over the EDC and MAC. The Chamber and Convention & Visitor's Bureau would be on their own.
--MAC could be under the City and the CVB could remain under the County.
--Formation of a commission comprised of two city commissioners, two county commissioners, plus representation from Milford or Grandview Plaza.
--It's essential to get an independent executive to run the organization.
--With all the travel by the EDC a return on investment was not seen.
The current Chamber structure runs through Dec. 31.
