Military change of command ceremonies are a longstanding tradition that demonstrate the formal transfer of authority from one commanding officer to another. Likewise, the change of responsibility ceremony signifies the transfer of responsibility to a new senior non-commissioned officer. The ceremony reinforces noncommissioned officer authority in the Army and highlights their support of the chain of command.
