Multiple topics were touched on at the weekly Geary County Commission meeting.
--Geary County CVB Marketing Specialist Rick Dykstra reported that state officials have indicated that the county is not too far away to get some business when the World Cup soccer comes to Kansas City in June and July of 2026. Visitors could stay in Junction City. Old West attractions will be sought.
--Dykstra also noted that the Outdoor Communicators of Kansas are having a conference in Geary County. Thirty-two ( media ) communicators were participating.
--Commission Chair Trish Giordano praised the new shelter that was just recently built in the Fifth Street Park and the volunteers who helped on the project.
--Jody Johnson of Dwight was recently presented the 2024 Geary County Extension Appreciation Award.
