SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating three suspects on multiple narcotics related allegations. On Feb. 15,&nbsp; the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), as part of the Shawnee County Drug Enforcement Task Force, and the Fugitive Warrant Unit executed a narcotics search warrant in the 3500 block of SW Westport Court in Topeka, according to Deputy Abigail Christian. During the investigation, illegal narcotics and three individuals with felony warrants were located.

John K. Oppermann, 57, Joshua L. Fosso, 43, and Porsche L. Shelden, 34, all of Topeka, were arrested on scene and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. Opperman had a felony warrant for his arrest out of Shawnee County for a previous narcotic investigation and was additionally charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shelden had a felony warrant out of another state for her arrest and was additionally charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Fosso had a felony warrant for his arrest out of another state and was additionally charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Two additional subjects were released, pending further investigation.

 3 wanted suspects captured during Kansas drug bust

WYANDOTTE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a woman's murder in Kansas have a suspect in custody.

On January 27, police found 19-year-old&nbsp;<a href="https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/independence-mo/adhel-deng-11139575">Adhel R. Deng </a>of Olathe dead in her vehicle the 6100 block of Haskell Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas.

On Thursday, police reported they had arrested the suspect last week and 25-year-old&nbsp; Brandon Wallace of Kansas City, Kansas has been charged with 1st degree murder by the Wyandotte County District Attorney. 

Wallace is being held in the Wyandotte County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

Suspect charged in murder of 19-year-old Kansas woman

BARTON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a series of oilfield thefts have captured a suspect.

Just after 10 a.m. Tuesday, a sheriff's deputy stopped a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 42-year-old Lori Fiscus, according to Bardon County Sheriff Brian Bellendir. After a routine check, it was discovered Fiscus had outstanding warrants from Saline County for a probation violation. 

The passenger in the vehicle, identified as 29-year-old Kurt Woods, had outstanding warrants for failure to appear and contempt of court in Barton County and the City of Great Bend.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Woods had been sought in connection with several oilfield thefts involving brass valves from tank batteries. Further investigation located methamphetamine inside the vehicle.

Deputies arrested Fiscus on requested charges of&nbsp; possession of methamphetamine and the warrant from Saline County. There is no bond on the Saline County warrant and a $10,000 bond on the possession of methamphetamine charge, according to Bellendir.

Deputies capture suspect in series of Kansas oilfield thefts

ATCHISON COUNTY —A Kansas man with a history of jail time is back in custody.

On Wednesday, police arrested 29-year-old Jordan R. Bush of&nbsp; Atchison, on a District Court warrant for theft, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

In September, police arrested Bush on requested charges of theft and battery and for an alleged bond violation, according to online jail records.&nbsp; Police also booked him for an alleged bond violation in November and December.&nbsp;

He remains in custody on a $2500 bond, according to online jail records.

Wanted Kansas theft suspect captured

KANSAS CITY (AP) —An officer who made the arrest in a notorious quintuple homicide nearly a decade ago, his police dog and a pedestrian were all killed when a driver crashed into the officer's cruiser, authorities in Missouri said.

Kansas City police said the crash happened Wednesday night as Officer James Muhlbauer was on patrol. The driver who struck the cruiser suffered minor injuries and was taken into custody.

The pedestrian, identified only as a man in his 50s, died at the scene, as did the officer’s dog, Champ. Muhlbauer was rushed to a hospital where he later died.

Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves said officers are investigating the cause of the crash, including whether alcohol was involved. She said there is no indication that the officer was at fault.

Graves said that officers from another department brought Champ’s remains to the hospital so the two partners could be reunited for what she described as their “heroes’ escort.”

“You live with your dog, your partner, your family lives with your partner,” she said. “You go to work every day. You train every day. You literally eat, sleep and live with your partner. They’re more than just a dog. They are truly the best partners they can have.”

Police said Muhlbauer, who was married and a father, was a 20-year veteran of the force. Graves asked for prayers for Muhlbauer's family and said that officers are “shaken” and “hurting.”

In 2014, Muhlbauer “heroically” arrested&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/f780e78dd98041049c76a5f62874a5ce">Brandon Howell</a>&nbsp;after Howell killed five people in a quiet cul-de-sac when his attempt to steal a classic Jaguar went awry, said Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters Baker. Howell, who previously was acquitted in the killings of two Kansas teens, is serving multiple life terms, with no chance of parole, in the quintuple homicide.

Mayor Quinton Lucas noted that the deadly crash came just days after another officer was&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-philadelphia-eagles-nfl-super-bowl-f4d255a4516ec2beeee6fd11d0403ee8">hit by gunfire</a>&nbsp;and wounded at the department’s headquarters shortly after the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. It also followed a tiring day in which the city’s officers oversaw a parade to celebrate the victory.

“We all grieve with the Kansas City Police Department, the women and men of the department,” Lucas said. “We grieve certainly with the officer’s family.”

KANSAS CITY —A Kansas City police officer, his K-9 partner and a pedestrian died in a crash Wednesday night.

Just after 10:15p.m., the officer identified as James Muhlbauer and his K9 officer Champ were on duty and on patrol in the area of Truman Road and Benton Boulevard when the patrol car was struck by another vehicle. The collision caused a secondary impact with a pedestrian.

The pedestrian and K-9 officer Champ was declared deceased at the scene, according to the release. EMS transported Muhlbauer to the hospital with critical injuries and he died.

The driver of the citizen vehicle has minor injuries and is in custody for further investigation

Muhlbauer is 20-year veteran of the KCPD and had been assigned to the K-9 Unit for nearly 3-years. His K9 partner  was an approximately 1-year veteran of the KCPD.&nbsp; &nbsp; K-9 Champ lived with Muhlbauer and his family. Mulhbauer was married and a father.&nbsp;

GREAT BEND — Twenty-plus 
years have passed since two women were murdered inside the Dolly Madison
 Bakery at one of the busiest intersections in Great Bend. Last 
September, just two days after the 20-year anniversary of the homicide, 
the Kansas Bureau of Investigation announced new DNA had been found in 
the case. Beyond that, the case has remained cold. That has long 
troubled Great Bend High School graduate Aaron Mull, who recently 
completed his documentary about the case. Mull is ready to share that 
story at a special question-and-answer screening of his documentary on 
March 2 at the Crest Theater.

"I started this, basically, to just try and shed light on this case 
I'd always known growing up," Mull said. "I remember seeing the 
composite sketch all over town. As I've gotten older, I questioned why 
this story hasn't really reached a larger audience. I thought maybe I 
could do that and set off to make it on my own."

The standard 
full-time work week consists of 2,080 hours. Mull estimates he spent 
some 600 hours on editing the documentary alone. Now living on the east 
coast, Mull estimates he spent just shy of $13,000 on the project. At 
one point, he pondered his efforts and how he could have nearly doubled 
the $17,000 reward offered for information leading to an arrest in the 
case.

"I knew it was going to cost quite a bit of money," he said. "I don't
 live in Great Bend anymore, and just flying back five times throughout 
the year was pretty costly, and the gear rentals, licensing music and 
footage and things like that. It was definitely something I knew was 
going to be a cost going into it. I was willing to eat that cost for a 
project I knew would mean something."

Mull made small videos as a 
student at GBHS, gaining national attention from one early project. 
After graduating, he worked for professional soccer team Sporting KC, 
then worked with the likes of famous chef Gordon Ramsay and Chiefs 
quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mull has built an audience of 31,000 
subscribers on his YouTube channel.

Approaching the 20thth anniversary of the Dolly Madison case in 
September 2021, Mull realized he had time to tackle a much larger, more 
meaningful project. He met with key players in the case, including 
friends and family members of the victims, past and present members of 
law enforcement, and local media members.

"There's only so much to
 go off of with this story because there's so little out there and 
that's known to the public," he said. "My biggest goal was to talk to 
the people closest to the story, friends of the victims, family members 
of the victims. Giving them a voice was important after all these years 
of feeling like they weren’t being heard."

Mull wrapped up filming
 in June 2022, but did make a special trip back to Great Bend for the 
KBI's press conference regarding the case on Sept. 6, 2022. He wrapped 
up editing in December and secured a distributor of the documentary, 
which features the interviews, as well as reenactments from locations 
pertinent to the case. The case may not have a conclusion, but Mull's 
documentary does.

Great Bend Community Coordinator Christina Hayes helped Mull secure 
the Crest Theater for his screening on Thursday, March 2 at 7 p.m. He 
plans to sell approximately 200 tickets for the first screening, and if 
interest dictates, opening the screening for a second showing the 
following evening. Following the documentary, Mull and other parties 
from the documentary will take questions from the crowd.

🎥 Trailer, screening date set for Dolly Madison homicide documentary

GEARY COUNTY - On Thursday, February 16, Geary County Sheriff's Deputies were working a crash scene at mile marker 310 on eastbound Interstate 70, at 11:18 a.m. when a white SUV almost struck a patrol unit.

The Deputy was inside the vehicle at the time of the incident, and pulled out behind the vehicle, attempting to conduct a traffic stop for failure to move over for an emergency vehicle.

The vehicle initially slowed down, but quickly returned to the speed limit, failing to stop and/or yield for an emergency vehicle.

Wabaunsee County Sheriff's Deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers assisted in stopping the vehicle at mile marker 324 on&nbsp; eastbound Interstate 70.

27-year-old arrested after short pursuit

MANHATTAN—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect in connection with an incident involving schools in USD 383 Manhattan.

Just after 7:30a.m. Thursday, police were called to Susan B. Anthony Middle School, 2501 Browning Ave. in Manhattan, for the report of a suspicious man in the building during the arrival time of students, according to a media release from the Riley County Police Department.

This person was stopped by school staff, directed to the office, was asked to leave the school and refused. 

Ultimately, the school staff did the right thing and called police to come and investigate this person.  During this time, students were held in their classrooms until the situation was resolved. 

Before officers arrived at the school, the man ended up leaving the building and driving away. 

He was found a short time later in the parking lot of University Christian Church, 2800 Claflin Road in Manhattan, which also operates as a preschool. 

The man made comments to officers that he was searching for his father. During this time, the man was respectful and cordial. At the request of the USD 383 Superintendent, the man was prohibited from going into all USD 383 property and or attending activities. 



Around 9:30 a.m., police were called to Amanda Arnold Elementary School, 1435 Hudson Avenue in Manhattan. The school staff reported the man was at the school. Officers quickly arrived and arrested Samuel Osenga, 22, of Manhattan without incident for criminal trespass. 

Osenga was not in possession of any weapons at the time of his arrest and police have no reason to believe he had any intention of harming students at any school.


The RCPD said they want to emphasize that if officers believe there is a threat at any of the schools, "we will respond as quickly as possible and parents will be notified."&nbsp; 

"We continue to have a strong working relationship with all of our schools and their staff, and appreciate their cooperation in any investigations or incidents that occur. The safety of our community's children is and will remain a top priority at RCPD."

Police: Man arrested after incidents at schools in Manhattan

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting that sent a teen to the hospital.

Just after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to the 2300 block of N. Waco in Wichita after multiple calls of a shooting, according to Officer Trevor Macy. 

At the scene, first responders located an 18-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds. EMS transported him to an area hospital with serious injuries. He was treated and later released, according to Macy.

Investigators learned that the 18-year-old had been in a gold Ford earlier in the evening with three others when they drove to a business at 21st and Arkansas Street in Wichita.

While at the business, a white pickup arrived, and one of the men from the gold car exited to talk to one of the occupants of the white pickup. 

After their conversation, the man got back into the gold vehicle, and as they drove away, occupants of the white pickup began shooting at the gold car.

The 18-year-old driving the gold vehicle drove North on Waco with the white truck following. At 22nd and Waco, the 18-year-old and one of his passengers , a 17-year-old boy, exited the vehicle, and the other two unknown males drove off in it. Police located the Gold Ford in the 2200 block of N. Broadway.&nbsp; &nbsp;Police have not released the identity of those involved or reported an arrest.

Kansas teen hospitalized after gunfire between vehicles

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A Texas prosecutor on Wednesday moved to dismiss a felony domestic violence case against former Texas basketball coach Chris Beard, in part because of the alleged victim’s wishes not to prosecute.

Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza said that “after a careful and thorough review of the evidence” and considering the wishes of Randi Trew, Beard’s fiancée, his office determined the charge of assault by strangulation/suffocation-family violence could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Beard was arrested Dec. 12 after Trew called 911 and told officers that Beard&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/sports-austin-texas-prisons-violence-579d283260eb916721681dbb3270e06a">strangled, bit and hit her</a>&nbsp;during a confrontation in his home.&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/sports-texas-chris-beard-top-25-college-basketball-today-99133534a0645c7318c6557d425d5dcf">She later said Beard didn’t choke her</a>, and that he defended himself from her. She added that she never intended him to be arrested and prosecuted.

“Everyone knows that Coach Beard has maintained his absolute innocence since the moment he was arrested,” said Perry Minton, Beard’s attorney. “Additionally, this district attorney has a well-earned reputation for being very tough regarding domestic violence cases. The fact that Mr. Garza’s review resulted in this determination so quickly says a lot. We are very pleased.”

The Associated Press does not typically identify alleged victims of sexual abuse or domestic violence, but Trew issued a public statement on Dec. 23 about Beard’s arrest and their fight that night, disputing several elements of the initial police account.

The third-degree felony charge carried a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison if prosecutors had pressed the case to conviction.

“Our office takes all domestic abuse cases seriously to ensure justice for the victims,” Garza said. “In every case, we are obligated to evaluate the facts and evidence and do our best to reach an outcome that will keep the victim and our community safe.”

Garza also defended his office’s record of pursuing domestic violence cases, noting his office has secured more than 1,000 convictions in family violence cases since 2021, with more than 200 people going to prison.

According to the police affidavit in support of Beard’s arrest, Trew initially told officers he strangled her from behind to the point where she couldn’t breathe for several seconds. The affidavit listed several visible signs of an altercation, including bite marks on her arm and abrasions on her face and leg.

According to the affidavit, Trew initally told police “he choked me, bit me, bruises all over my leg, throwing me around and going nuts.” Her later statement did not address why she called 911 or several of the physical injuries described in the police report.

Texas suspended Beard without pay the day he was arrested.&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/politics-sports-chris-beard-texas-law-enforcement-64f650d82cd95028ad80ae5946fe2e24">He was fired on Jan. 5</a>&nbsp;when Texas officials told Beard’s attorney he was “unfit” to lead the program.

Beard had five years left on a seven-year guaranteed contract that included a provision saying he could be fired for cause if he was charged with a felony or committed other behavior unbecoming of his position or that reflected poorly on the university.

The university’s vice president of legal affairs, Jim Davis, wrote in a letter to Beard’s attorney on the day the coach was fired that Beard engaged in “unacceptable behavior that makes him unfit to serve as head coach at our university.”

Whether prosecutors continue with the case does not determine whether Beard engaged in conduct unbecoming of the school, Davis wrote.

DA drops felony domestic violence case against ex-Texas coach 

JACKSON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on drug allegations after a traffic stop.

Just after 10:30p.m. Tuesday, a sheriff's deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 2010 Acura passenger vehicle for a traffic infraction near 142nd and U.S. Highway 75, according to sheriff Tim Morse.

The driver was identified as Randy Thanh Nguyen, 31, of Kansas City, Missouri.

Deputies arrested Nguyen and booked him into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal use of a firearm, transporting an open container, driving while suspended, no vehicle registration and no insurance.&nbsp;

He remains in custody on a $15,000 bond, according to online jail records.

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas sex offender on new charges after

Shortly after midnight on Monday night an officer on patrol stopped a vehicle in the the 100 block South 4th in Atchison for not having a vehicle license tag, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson. The officer subsequently found the driver, Danny Groshong, to be in possession of controlled substances.

Police arrested 32-year-old Danny E. Groshong of Atchison, on requested charges of no vehicle tag, no vehicle insurance, driving without a license, and possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.&nbsp;

He has previous convictions for rape of a child under the age of 14 and aggravated indecent liberties. He's been listed as a registered offender since 2011, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.

Kansas sex offender jailed after drugs found during traffic stop

KANSAS CITY&nbsp; (AP) — A man accused of&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/crime-arrests-kidnapping-missouri-fb3dd5739aaa2a2d037f858163adb322">keeping a woman hidden in his basement</a>&nbsp;while repeatedly sexually assaulting her was indicted by a grand jury on nine new charges, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Timothy M. Haslett, of Excelsior Springs, was indicted on one count of rape, four counts of sodomy, two counts of second-degree assault and one count each of kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a child, Clay County Prosecutor Zachary Thompson said.

Haslett, 40, is being held in the Clay County Detention Center on $3 million bond. If found guilty, he faces up to five life sentences and another 36 years in prison.

The charges supersede charges of rape, kidnapping and assault filed after Haslett was arrested in October when a woman told investigators she was raped repeatedly while being held captive in his basement for about a month.

“We would not be here today if not for the bravery of one woman and the tireless efforts of 16 different agencies,” Thompson said.

He said law enforcement officers have followed more than 100 leads and spent more than 1,200 hours on the case, but he said the investigation continues.

Court documents say the child endangerment charge stems from leaving unsecured weapons accessible to the child, KSHB-TV reported.

Thompson declined to comment on whether detectives are investigating the possibility of other possible victims.

Haslett's public defender, Tiffany Leuty, did not return a call seeking comment. Haslett's next court hearing is scheduled for Friday.

The woman, who has not been named, said she escaped when Haslett left the house to take his child to school and then ran to a neighbor's home for help.

At the time, the victim was wearing latex lingerie and a metal collar with what appeared to be a padlock on the front, according to court documents.

In January, the Excelsior Springs Police Department said it was looking for 36-year-old Jaynie M. Crosdale as a potential witness in case. Thompson said Tuesday that police continue to look for Crosdale.

KC-area man accused of confining woman faces new charge

RILEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating three suspects on multiple allegations after a drug bust.

On Tuesday, police conducted a search warrant for suspected distribution of controlled substances in the 700 block of Mission Avenue in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

The search warrant resulted in the seizure of over 300 suspected fentanyl pills and marijuana. 

Police arrested 20-year-old Trevon Markham and 23-year-old Therriana Pittman both of Manhattan in the 1900 block of Casement in connection to the search warrant. 

Police found suspected fentanyl pills and marijuana in Markham's vehicle at the time of their arrests. 

Markham is in custody on requested charges that include violation of offender registration, aggravated child endangerment, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of an opiate with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of an opiate, and possession of a controlled substance.&nbsp;Markham has been listed as a registered drug offender since Feb. 9, for a felony drug distribution conviction this month, according to the KBI Offender Registry.

Pittman is jailed on requested charges of felon in possession of a firearm, aggravated child endangerment, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of an opiate with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, and possession of an opiate.

Officers also arrested 18-year-old Juliana Morgan, 18, of Junction City on a requested charges of interference with law enforcement as officers conducted the search warrant at a residence.Morgan was issued a total bond of $2,000 and is no longer confined at the time of this report.

Markham is in custody on requested charges that include violation of offender registration, aggravated child endangerment, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of an opiate with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of an opiate, and possession of a controlled substance.&nbsp;Markham has been listed as a registered drug offender since Feb. 9, for a felony drug distribution conviction this month, according to the KBI Offender Registry.Pittman is jailed on requested charges of felon in possession of a firearm, aggravated child endangerment, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of an opiate with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, and possession of an opiate.Officers also arrested 18-year-old Juliana Morgan, 18, of Junction City on a requested charges of interference with law enforcement as officers conducted the search warrant at a residence.Morgan was issued a total bond of $2,000 and is no longer confined at the time of this report.

RCPD finds fentanyl pills, arrests registered Kansas offender

SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Kansas man is going to prison for the stabbing death of his uncle.&nbsp;

On Feb. 9, 33-year-old Douglass McGathy was sentenced to 15 years and one month in prison, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.&nbsp; 

In December he pleaded no contest&nbsp;to one count of second-degree murder.

In August of 2021, deputies were dispatched to a stabbing in the 5600 block of south 143rd Street East in Wichita, according to Lt. Benjamin Blick.

When deputies arrived, they located a 48-year-old as Kelly Joe Ralph in the driveway with multiple stab wounds. EMS transported&nbsp; him to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

During the investigation, deputies learned there was a physical disturbance between Ralph and and his nephew Douglass R. McGathy over a gun sale, according to Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter. They both lived at the home.

Deputies arrested McGathy and the next day located the knife used in the murder. It was thrown on the roof of the home, according to Sheriff Jeff Easter.

Just before 6p.m. Monday, police responded to report of a shooting in the 200 block of North Rock Road in Wichita, according to Officer Juan Rebolledo.

At the scene, witnesses informed the officers that before the officers arrived, they saw a man with a gunshot wound to one of his legs leaving the scene of the incident in a black vehicle, traveling in an unknown direction.

During the investigation, 911 dispatch made the officers aware of a walk-in victim at one of the local hospitals with a gunshot wound to his lower body. The victim matched the description given to the nofficers by witnesses.

 The victim drove himself to the hospital, was treated and released the same day, according to Rebolledo.

The victim spoke with officers and based on the information, investigators were able to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting. This was not a random incident. Police have not released details on a suspect or reported an arrest.

Quigley, 24, of Topeka, was taken into custody and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated battery and aggravated assault.

Suspect accused of violent Kansas robbery

RILEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect following an altercation in Manhattan.

Just after 4a.m. Tuesday, officers filed for battery in the 200 block of N. 9th Street in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

A 24-year-old man reported a 40-year-old man slapped him and bit him in the face. When officers arrived and attempted to place the suspect under arrest, he resisted by physically fighting the officers.

RCPD: Suspect allegedly bit man, fought with police

A federal grand jury Tuesday indicted a Catonsville woman and a 
neo-Nazi residing in Orlando, Fla., on one count of conspiring to 
destroy an electrical transmission substation resulting in damages that 
would have exceeded $100,000, court documents show.

Federal authorities had arrested Sarah Beth Clendaniel, 34, and 
Brandon Clint Russell, 27, on a criminal information earlier this month,
 alleging that the two conspired to shoot up five BGE substations that 
would cause a “cascading failure” in the power grid, an FBI affidavit 
showed.

Clendaniel specifically mentioned destroying electrical substations 
in Norrisville, Reisterstown and Perry Hall, and two more in and around 
Baltimore City, the affidavit alleged.

Much of the information that led to the charges was obtained from an 
unnamed FBI confidential informant, who communicated with Clendaniel and
 Russell, who was known to authorities for his affiliations with 
pro-Nazi groups.

As part of the indictment, a forfeiture notice was filed for any and 
all assets that could be traced to the crime of terrorism, should the 
two be convicted. The forfeiture notice listed property already seized 
by the FBI, including:

If convicted, Russell and Clendaniel each face a sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison.

Pair who planned attack on Baltimore-area electrical grid indicted

FINNEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating two suspect on multiple drug allegations after a high-risk traffic stop on Wednesday.

Officers of the Garden City Police Department and the Garden City/Finney County Joint Drug Task Force conducted the stop in the 3400 block of E. Spruce Street in Garden City, according to a media release.

Officers made contact with 48-year-old Kelly Deremus and 30-year-old Shelby Deremus as part of an ongoing investigation.&nbsp; Officers had prior knowledge that Kelly Deremus had an active warrant. 

After further investigation, a search of the vehicle was conducted. Multiple narcotics were seized to include fentanyl, methamphetamine, marijuana, and counterfeit oxycodone pills. 

Officers arrested both at the scene. Due to the location and known criminal history of Kelly Deremus, Victor Ornelas Elementary School and Charles O. Stones Intermediate Center were placed on lockdown for a few minutes as a precaution.

Kelly Deremus is in custody on requested charges that include Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Stimulants, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Ignition Interlock and the Finney County District Court warrant along with Fleeing and Eluding/Driving Under the Influence. Shelby Deremus was booking into jail on requested charges of Possession of Stimulants and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Hosier of Atchison on an Atchison District Court warrant charging him with three counts of burglary, two counts of criminal damage to property, and theft related to unlawful entries and criminal damage to vehicles parked in the area of 9th and Commercial in Atchison that occurred on January 2, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

Hosier is being held in the Buchanan County Jail awaiting extradition.

Kansas man accused in series of burglaries jailed in Missouri

RENO COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on multiple charges after gunfire at a home.

Just after 1:30 a.m. Friday, police were dispatched to gunshots at a home in the 1100 Block E 4th&nbsp;Avenue in Hutchinson, according to a media release.&nbsp;

When officers arrived they contacted a 49-year-old man who reported that while he was inside his residence he heard &nbsp;gunshots coming from outside.&nbsp;

 An undisclosed number of bullets entered the interior of his home in close proximity to where he was located and his personal property damaged.&nbsp; The man was not injured.&nbsp; Police searched the area but didn't find a suspect.

Investigators were later able to identify 29-year-old Daniel Coronado Jr. of Hutchinson as a suspect&nbsp; &nbsp;Police learned Coronado and the victim were acquainted with each other, and there is reason to believe that the shooting was premeditated.

Just after 7 p.m. Friday, police arrested Coronado on requested charges of Attempted 1st&nbsp;Degree Murder and Felony criminal damage to property.&nbsp;

A juvenile female involved in the investigation was also taken into custody on requested charges of Possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and interference with law enforcement. Coronado has previous convictions for criminal threat, domestic battery, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections

Just before 4:30 a.m. Friday, police attempted to stop a vehicle for reckless driving near the area of SW Ninth Street and SW Parkview Street in Topeka, according to spokesperson Rosie Nichols.

The driver of the vehicle initiated a pursuit. Officers then discontinued the pursuit due to excess speeds. A short time later, police located the vehicle near the area of SE Sixth Street and SE Golden Avenue. 

A traffic stop was attempted and the vehicle initiated another pursuit. The suspect, later identified as Alejandro R. Rodriguez, 23, of Topeka, lost control near SW 17th Street and SW Washburn Avenue and crashed into a tree and light pole.
