ROOKS COUNTY –&nbsp;The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Rooks County Sheriff's Office arrested a Stockton man for manufacturing methamphetamine, according to a media release from the agency.

The Rooks County Sheriff's Office requested KBI assistance on April 3. The investigation discovered Richard E. Beck, 63, of Stockton, was purchasing methamphetamine precursor chemicals and stealing anhydrous ammonia in order to manufacture methamphetamine.

On Monday, May 4, KBI agents and deputies arrested Beck for two counts of unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of anhydrous ammonia, possession of pseudoephedrine with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine, and possession of marijuana.

Following the arrest, Beck was booked into the Rooks County Jail.

Russia’s foreign ministry said that it, as well as Saudi Arabia, was calling for diplomatic efforts to reach a “sustainable, long-term agreement” to end the war.

Separately, Putin told reporters in Moscow that taking&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/iran-nuclear-uranium-enriched-trump-war-1fd6de24bd1e6c3a4945d58d3f777462">enriched uranium from Iran</a>&nbsp;to help negotiate a settlement would allow everyone to see “how much of it there is, and where it is located,” and “all of this would be placed under the control of the IAEA,” the U.N. nuclear watchdog.

Egyptian and Qatari top diplomats reiterated that diplomacy is the sole path to a solution, according to a readout of a phone call between the two foreign ministers.

Still publicly unseen and unheard since the war began is Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, fueling speculation about his status.

On Friday, a top Iranian official said Khamenei was in “complete health” and eventually would appear in public. Mazaher Hosseini, affiliated with the office of&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/ali-khamenei">Iran’s late supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei</a>, who was killed at the start of the war, made the comment at a pro-government gathering. Hosseini said Mojtaba, Khamenei's son, had knee and back injuries in the war’s opening attacks but they’ve largely healed.

Iran issues new warning to the US on attacks of its oil tankers

KANSAS CITY, Kan. —Detectives with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department announced Friday that a 17-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged by the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office with first-degree felony murder in the shooting death of 15-year-old Zy’Aer Hamilton, according to a statement from Kansas City, Kansas police.

Just after 6p.m. May 1, officers were dispatched to a shooting in the 2800 block of Parallel Parkway in Kansas City, Kansas. Upon arrival, officers located a Hamilton deceased inside the home, the victim of apparent gunshot wounds.

Police: 17-year-old arrested for murder of 15-year-old Kansas boy

KANSAS CITY –&nbsp;Over the past week, federal, state, and local law enforcement officers, with the help of prosecutors, cleared 442 warrants, most of which are for violent crimes.

On Friday, the U.S. Department of Justice announced the results of “Operation Red Card”, a multi-agency law enforcement operation&nbsp;that&nbsp;identified, apprehended, and initiated prosecution against some of the most violent offenders in the Greater Kansas City, Mo. metro area.&nbsp; Its mission was straightforward: use existing Missouri and Kansas City-based law enforcement resources in a coordinated way to serve warrants across partner agencies, arrest individuals wanted for serious crimes and identify additional evidence that supports successful prosecution.

This effort resulted in 442 warrants being cleared, and 170 defendants charged with various offenses, involving firearms and narcotics. During the investigations into these matters, law enforcement seized a total of&nbsp;8.8 pounds of fentanyl, 418 pounds of methamphetamine, 247 firearms, 52 pounds of ketamine, 15 pounds of MDMA, 6 pounds of cocaine, and $460,872. In addition, five warrants were cleared for individuals wanted for homicide,&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

“Operation Red Card represents the tremendous progress that occurs when federal, state, and local agencies collaborate and align their priorities, resources, and focus to confront violent crime,” said U.S. Attorney R. Matthew Price for the Western District of Missouri. “Through this unified effort, people across greater Kansas City, and visitors this summer, can rest easier knowing that dangerous individuals have been removed from our streets.”&nbsp;

Operation Red Card: Hundreds of arrests in KC ahead of World Cup

WICHITA, Kan. —&nbsp;Stephen Rogers, 29, of Wichita, was sentenced Friday in Sedgwick County District Court after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and aggravated endangering a child in connection with the fatal shooting of his mother-in-law, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Rogers had plead guilty pursuant to a negotiated resolution of the case in February of 2026.

Sedgwick County District Judge Tyler Roush sentenced Rogers to a total of 592 months in prison.

On the night of July 30, 2025, Sharmaine Marlene Burke, 49, called 911 to report that her son-in-law was drunk and had threatened to shoot her. She told dispatchers that her 8-year-old grandson — Rogers' son — was also inside the home at the Longbranch Mobile Home Park near Derby. The 911 call-taker stayed on the line as deputies responded. A few minutes into the call, gunshots were heard and the line went silent. Deputies arrived at 11:41 p.m. and found Burke with multiple gunshot wounds to her upper body. Deputies and Sedgwick County EMS attempted life-saving measures, but Burke died at 11:57 p.m.

Rogers had taken his son from the home and fled. Butler County deputies located and stopped the vehicle at U.S. 54 and Haverhill Road. Rogers was arrested. His son was not harmed.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Shannon Wilson and Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Jameson of the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office.

"This office is committed to holding violent offenders accountable,” the District Attorney’s Office said in a statement. “Today's sentence reflects the seriousness of Mr. Rogers' actions and the lasting impact they have had on this family and community."

Prison: Kan. man killed grandmother in front of her 8-year-old grandson

ELLIS COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating after a gun theft suspect was found dead in a home in Hays.

Just after noon Friday., the Hays Police Department received a report that a man had stolen a handgun from a local gun shop in Hays, according to a statement from Police Chief Don Scheibler. The suspect, who reportedly had blood on his hands, fled the area in a vehicle before officers arrived on scene.

Officers later located the suspect vehicle at a residence in the 200 block of West 24th Street. Officers established a safety perimeter around the residence, alerted the community and attempted to contact the suspect.

The Hays Police Department Special Situation Response Team was activated, and an armored vehicle from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) was also brought to the scene.

Statements made by the suspect at the gun shop led officers to believe he may have been experiencing a mental health crisis and could pose a danger to himself. The High Plains Mental Health Center Mobile Crisis Unit responded to assist. Hays Police Department negotiators made multiple attempts to contact the suspect by phone but were unsuccessful.

A search warrant was obtained for the residence in order to arrest the suspect and recover the stolen handgun. The door to the residence was breached using the ram on the armored vehicle. Drones operated by the Kansas Highway Patrol and the KBI were deployed inside the residence in an effort to safely locate the suspect.

The suspect was found deceased inside the garage area from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. This incident remains under investigation by the Ellis County Coroner and the Hays Police Department.

TOPEKA — The former top executive of a company granted a banking charter by the Kansas Legislature was found guilty Thursday by a federal jury of orchestrating a scheme to funnel more than $150 million to himself through securities fraud, false claims and fabricated records.

Brad Heppner, who founded Beneficient and convinced Kansas lawmakers five years ago to award the Dallas company a bank charter, had entered a plea of not guilty to securities fraud, wire fraud and making false statements, as well as conspiracy to commit wire and securities fraud. He was arrested in November and went on trial three weeks ago in New York City. The jury found him guilty on all four counts.

Heppner, 60, of Dallas, faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison on each count of securities fraud, wire fraud and making false statements to auditors. The conspiracy count carries a maximum penalty of of five years behind bars. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 7.

Jay Clayton, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, said the jury unanimously found Heppner guilty of fraudulently extracting $150 million to enrich himself.

“Heppner used shell companies to hide his scheme. When his house of cards began to collapse, he did not come clean,” Clayton said.

Instead, the prosecutor said in a statement, Heppner doubled down by falsifying emails and backdating documents to lie to auditors, directors and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

“Our world-leading capital markets are built on trust and transparency,” Clayton said. “The honesty and candor of C-suite executives is essential, and this action should send a message. C-suite executives who breach the public trust will be pursued by the SDNY’s Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force and our dedicated partners at FBI, vigorously. That is what investors and the American people want and deserve.”

<a href="https://kansasreflector.com/2023/03/01/classic-ponzi-scheme-angry-creditors-lambast-ceo-of-kansas-asset-swap-business-in-court-records/">Heppner was convicted of misappropriating cash drawn from GWG Holdings</a>, which he served as chairman before it went bankrupt.&nbsp;<a href="https://kansasreflector.com/2025/06/30/ceo-quits-struggling-texas-company-with-unique-kansas-banking-charter/">At one point, Heppner led both GWG Holdings and Beneficient</a>. He was accused of funneling to himself, through a shell company that he secretly controlled, approximately half of $300 million transferred from GWG Holdings to Beneficient from 2018 to 2021.

In 2020, federal prosecutors said, Heppner responded to a subpoena from the SEC by falsifying minutes from a 2019 meeting to suggest movement of cash to the shell company had board approval.

The&nbsp;<a href="https://kansasreflector.com/2025/11/04/former-beneficient-ceo-who-acquired-unique-kansas-bank-charter-indicted-on-fraud-charges/">federal indictment asserted&nbsp;</a>Heppner devoted at least $40 million to a ranch and a a 22,000-square-foot Dallas mansion with eight bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. He was accused of using $20 million to pay taxes, and of spending lavishly on travel and buying jewelry worth more than $500,000.

Beneficient is a financial services company exchanging cash or stock for illiquid investments bound up in private equity. The objective would be to sell acquired assets for a profit, but insufficient cash on hand and a weak stock price has dimmed Beneficient’s market prospects.

No other current or former GWG Holdings or Beneficient executives have been indicted. No one in Kansas has been indicted, but a Kansas business associate of Heppner testified as a prosecution witness.

Before the trial, U.S. District&nbsp;<a href="https://kansasreflector.com/2026/04/21/former-executive-of-company-with-unique-kansas-bank-charter-goes-on-trial-for-fraud-charges/">Judge Jed Rakoff issued a ruling</a>&nbsp;preventing Heppner from claiming attorney-client privilege to shield from the jury 31 documents related to possible defense strategies that Heppner created with online artificial intelligence tools. The documents were seized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation while serving a search warrant on Heppner’s electronic devices.

To secure the bank charter in Kansas, which the state banking commissioner aggressively opposed, Beneficient made campaign contributions to Republicans and Democrats in Kansas.

Heppner pledged a Beneficient subsidiary would direct resources to rural economic development projects in Kansas. The state Department of Commerce handled distribution of those grants. Heppner promised to revitalize his hometown of Hesston. He placed emphasis on&nbsp;<a href="https://kansasreflector.com/2025/11/10/hesston-foundation-downsizing-20m-grocery-store-plan-conceived-by-indicted-businessman/">construction of an elaborate grocery store in Hesston</a>, which has not been built.

Some members of the Legislature continued to defend the state’s relationship with Beneficient despite Heppner’s indictment. During the 2026 session, the&nbsp;<a href="https://kansasreflector.com/2026/03/10/kansas-house-endorses-bill-to-protect-states-financial-interests-if-beneficient-collapses/">Legislature passed a bill that became law</a>&nbsp;forbidding any state entity from accepting jurisdiction over any Beneficient business operation that filed for bankruptcy.

Executive with Kansas political ties guilty of fraud in $150M scheme

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A suspect charged in connection with a home invasion killing is due back in court Friday

Andre Bryant, 39, is scheduled to attend a preliminary hearing in the courtroom of Judge Tyler Roush, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.&nbsp;He has been charged with felony murder, aggravated murder, aggravated battery, attempted second-degree murder, aggravated burglary, and felon in possession of a firearm in connection with the Dec. 27, home invasion shooting in the 100 block of North Ash in Wichita that left one man dead and another injured.

Just before 8:30p.m. on December 27, police responded to the home on North Ash&nbsp; and found a 52-year-old man and a 67-year-old man inside the home with gunshot wounds. Both were taken to a hospital. The 52-year-old later died.&nbsp;

A neighbor, identified as 54-year-old Matthew Morgan, was previously arrested and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail and was charged with second-degree reckless murder.

Bryant remains jailed on a&nbsp;$1,000,000.00 bond, according to online jail records.

Preliminary hearing for Kansas home invasion killing

SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. —&nbsp;Sedgwick County Sheriff’s deputies arrested four people, including a 17-year-old driver from Wichita, following a disturbance involving a firearm and a drive-by shooting in Wichita's Oaklawn neighborhood.&nbsp; The incident included to small children.

Just after 8p.m. Tuesday, sheriff's deputies first responded to a reported disturbance involving a gun in the 5100 block of South Meadowview, according to Sheriff's Department Spokesman Branden Stitt.

 Witnesses reported a silver van traveling southbound on Meadowview at a high rate of speed nearly struck an adult walking with two other adults and three children. After a woman yelled at the driver to slow down, a verbal altercation began and one of the van’s occupants displayed a firearm. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

Deputies searched for the van and later identified a possible suspect vehicle connected to individuals involved in prior cases.

At approximately 1:08 a.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to a reported drive-by shooting in the same area. A deputy patrolling nearby reported hearing gunshots and seeing a silver van traveling southbound on Meadowview before losing sight of it. Deputies later recovered spent shell casings near a residence along Meadowview. No injuries were reported.

Deputies determined the suspected van was connected to individuals living at an apartment complex in the 4200 block of South Hydraulic. Deputies later located the van at the complex with six occupants inside, including two children ages 2 and 4. Deputies recovered a Taurus 9mm handgun, multiple magazines, marijuana, and alcoholic beverages.

The 17-year-old male driver was booked into the Sedgwick County Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center on requested charges of driving under the influence, minor in possession of alcohol, and child endangerment.

Three adults were also booked into the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility.

Aspen Rhnea Olvera, 23, of Wichita, the mother of the two young children found in the van, was booked on requested charges of aggravated child endangerment, furnishing alcohol to a minor, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Aiden Kenneth Kampe, 19, of Wichita, was booked on requested charges of aggravated child endangerment and criminal discharge of a firearm.

Nicholas Earl James Burress, 21, of Wichita, was booked on requested charges of aggravated child endangerment, criminal discharge of a firearm, and furnishing alcohol to a minor.

The case will now be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for formal charging consideration.

Both children were placed into police protective custody.

Officers found a crash involving two vehicles. American Medical response transported one juvenile passenger to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Child hospitalized, 2 Kan. women jailed after car crash

JACKSON COUNTY, Kan.—Law enforcement are investigating a suspect on multiple allegations after an unusual traffic stop.

Just before 6:00 p.m. May 4, deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area near Anew Healthcare, at 7th and Montana in Holton for a report of an unconscious individual in the driver’s seat of a running Chevrolet Impala, according to Sheriff TIm Morse.

Upon arrival, deputies located the individual and conducted an investigation. A probable cause search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of drug paraphernalia.

The driver, identified as Miranda Linn Minner, 34, of Holton, was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, possession of opiate narcotics, felony possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sheriff: Kansas driver found unconscious in running car

SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Kansas man jailed for a violent, deadly shooting at a home in Wichita was back in court Wednesday for an arraignment hearing for a crime that occurred five years ago.

Teviaun Sebastian, who was 19 at the time of the alleged crime, pleaded not guilty to charges of 1st degree murder, attempted 1st degree murder, aggravated battery, and criminal discharge of a firearm before&nbsp;Judge Tyler Roush, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Just before 6:30p.m. Sept. 24, 2021, police responded to a shooting in the 900 block of South Mission in Wichita, according to Officer Charley Davidson.

Upon arrival, officers found a 37-year-old man with gunshot wounds and a 5-year-old boy who was grazed by a bullet on his back shoulder. EMS transported another 66-year-old victim to a hospital where he died. EMS transported the 37-year-old to a Wichita hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and the 5-year-old boy was treated on the scene.&nbsp;

An investigation determined 19-year-old Teviaun Sebastian, of Wichita, went to a home on South Mission and asked for the 37-year-old man.

When the man came to the door, Sebastian reportedly fired multiple rounds at the man and grazed the boy on the front porch as well. Sebastian then ran on foot to the south and shot the victim who was standing outside.&nbsp;

Several shots struck a neighboring house and although witnesses were outside at the time of the shooting, they were not injured.&nbsp;

Officers located Sebastian on foot in the 1000 block of South Woodlawn armed with two handguns. Police say Sebastian put down both guns and was arrested without further incident.&nbsp;

Sebastian is due back in court on July 29 for a pretrial conference. He remains in the Sedgwick County jail $1 million bond, according to online jail records.

 </figure>SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Kansas man jailed for a violent, deadly shooting at a home in Wichita was back in court Wednesday for an arraignment hearing for a crime that occurred five years ago.Teviaun Sebastian, who was 19 at the time of the alleged crime, pleaded not guilty to charges of 1st degree murder, attempted 1st degree murder, aggravated battery, and criminal discharge of a firearm before&nbsp;Judge Tyler Roush, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.Just before 6:30p.m. Sept. 24, 2021, police responded to a shooting in the 900 block of South Mission in Wichita, according to Officer Charley Davidson.Upon arrival, officers found a 37-year-old man with gunshot wounds and a 5-year-old boy who was grazed by a bullet on his back shoulder. EMS transported another 66-year-old victim to a hospital where he died. EMS transported the 37-year-old to a Wichita hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and the 5-year-old boy was treated on the scene.&nbsp;An investigation determined 19-year-old Teviaun Sebastian, of Wichita, went to a home on South Mission and asked for the 37-year-old man.When the man came to the door, Sebastian reportedly fired multiple rounds at the man and grazed the boy on the front porch as well. Sebastian then ran on foot to the south and shot the victim who was standing outside.&nbsp;Several shots struck a neighboring house and although witnesses were outside at the time of the shooting, they were not injured.&nbsp;Officers located Sebastian on foot in the 1000 block of South Woodlawn armed with two handguns. Police say Sebastian put down both guns and was arrested without further incident.&nbsp;Sebastian is due back in court on July 29 for a pretrial conference. He remains in the Sedgwick County jail $1 million bond, according to online jail records.

Just before 11a.m. Wednesday, police&nbsp;filed a report for aggravated violation of the Kansas Offender Registration Act, Violation of the Kansas Offender Registration Act and perjury in the 3000 block of Tonga Street in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Deparatment activity report.

 Frank Martinez, 60, of Manhattan was arrested on requested charges of aggravated violation of the Kansas Offender Registration Act, Violation of the Kansas Offender Registration Act and perjury. &nbsp;Martinez was issued a bond of $100,000 and remains confined at the Riley County Jail at the time of this report.&nbsp; Martinez has been listed as a registered sex offender since a&nbsp; child pornography conviction in Linn County Iowa in 2015, according to the KBI offender registry.

Sex offender jailed in Riley County on new allegations

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - An 18-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a weekend shooting that left one woman dead and 22 other people wounded during a nighttime party beside an Oklahoma lake, police said.

Jaylan A. Davis was arrested on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon in the wake of Sunday night’s shooting, which erupted after an apparent argument broke out amid a large crowd gathered at Arcadia Lake in the north Oklahoma City suburb of Edmond, its police chief said.

Edmond Police Chief J.D. Younger announced the arrest at a news conference and said the initial charge against Davis was in the process of being upgraded to felony murder following the death of an 18-year-old woman who was shot. Police identified the woman as Avianna Smith-Gray.

Davis was being held in the Edmond jail on a $1 million bond. He was listed in jail records as an Oklahoma City resident.

There was no lawyer listed for Davis in court documents, and the Oklahoma County Public Defender’s Office said Davis would not be assigned an attorney until the upgraded charges have been filed.

Detectives believe the incident began with an argument between two women attending the gathering and escalated into an altercation between rival gang members, the police chief said. Younger also said police think there is at least one more suspect.

In addition to the 18-year-old woman killed, authorities said, others suffered gunshot and shrapnel wounds as dozens of shots were fired at the popular boating, fishing and swimming lake some 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of downtown Oklahoma City.

Six of the victims are juveniles, some as young as 15, Younger said.

Davis turned himself in Wednesday morning after police produced an arrest warrant, the chief said.

“We’re trying to find justice for 23 people that were shot, one that’s deceased and even the people that were involved. I think it’s important not to demonize or separate the parties here,” Younger said.

He added that multiple people discharged weapons and that more than 80 rounds were fired.

The woman who died, Smith-Gray, was a high school senior who was looking forward to walking the stage at her upcoming graduation, her family said on a fundraising page for her funeral expenses. The family said she loved to dance, sing, do hair and much more. Her sisters described her as a loving, smart person who was good with kids and “so full of life.”

The party had been promoted across social media and drew a large crowd of mostly young adults from around the Oklahoma City area to a picnic pavilion beside the lake. The shooting occurred just as officers were responding to a noise complaint about the party, police said.

Authorities noted that organizers hadn’t sought the necessary reservations for such an event.

Just after 3a.m. Sunday, 51-year-old Grayson Hoofer was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on requested charges of battery; knowing, recklessly causing bodily harm at a residence in the 5,000 Block of North Remington Street in Bel&nbsp; Aire, according to the Sedgwick County booking report.

Wichita Police spokesman Andrew Ford confirmed the arrest of an officer. The police department released no additional details.

Hoofer was part of the police department's Domestic Intervention &amp; Violence Reduction Team.&nbsp;

Kansas police officer on home incarceration after his arrest

NEW YORK (AP) — Ted Turner, a brash and outspoken television pioneer who raced yachts, owned huge chunks of the American West and transformed the news business by launching CNN in 1980, has died at age 87.

CNN reported that he died Wednesday, citing a Turner Enterprises news release.

Turner owned professional sports teams in Atlanta, defended the America’s Cup in yachting in 1977 and donated a stunning $1 billion to United Nations charities. He married three women — most famously actress Jane Fonda — and earned the nicknames “Captain Outrageous” and “The Mouth of the South.”

He once bragged: “If only I had a little humility, I’d be perfect.”

He was slowed in later years by Lewy Body Dementia. Long since out of the television business, he concentrated on philanthropy and his more than two million acres of property, including the nation’s largest bison herd.

His garrulous personality sometimes overshadowed a driven, risk-taking business acumen. By the time he sold his Turner Broadcasting System to Time Warner Inc. in a 1996 media megadeal, Turner had turned his late father’s billboard company into a global conglomerate that included seven major cable networks, three professional sports teams and a pair of hit movie studios.

Turner’s signature achievement was creating CNN, the first 24-hour, all-news television network in 1980. At a time news is instantly available at anyone’s fingertips, it’s hard to recall that the idea of letting consumers decide when they choose to learn what’s going on in the world was once revolutionary.

In part, Turner’s own frustration with television news was the instigator. He often worked past 8 p.m., after the ABC, CBS and NBC nightly newscasts had already gone off the air, and was in bed by the time his local stations did their own newscasts at 11 p.m.

He took a chance by starting the operation sometimes derided as the “chicken noodle network” in the early days of cable television, living in an apartment above its Atlanta office.

“I was going to have to hit hard and move incredibly fast and that’s what we did — move so fast that the (broadcast) networks wouldn’t have the time to respond, because they should have done this, not me,” Turner recalled in a 2016 interview with the Academy of Achievement. “But they didn’t have the imagination.”

CNN’s breakthrough moment came during the Gulf War with Iraq in 1991. Most television journalists had fled Baghdad, warned of an imminent American attack. CNN stayed, capturing arresting images of a war’s outbreak, with anti-aircraft tracers streaking across the sky and correspondents flinching from the concussion of bombs.

Turner was promised a continued role in CNN after his company’s sale to Time Warner for $7.3 billion in stock, but was gradually pushed out, much to his regret.

“I made a mistake,” he later said. “The mistake I made was losing control of the company.”

SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Kansas man jailed for a violent shooting at a home in Wichita will return to court Wednesday.

Teviaun Sebastian, who was 19 at the time of the alleged crime, is scheduled for an arraignment hearing in the courtroom of Judge Tyler Roush, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Sebastian is charged with&nbsp;1st degree murder, attempted 1st degree murder, aggravated battery, and criminal discharge of a firearm/

Upon arrival, officers found a 37-year-old man with gunshot wounds and a 5-year-old boy who was grazed by a bullet on his back shoulder.&nbsp;

EMS transported another 66-year-old victim to a hospital where he died.

EMS transported the 37-year-old to a Wichita hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and the 5-year-old boy was treated on the scene.&nbsp;

Sebastian then ran on foot to the south and shot the victim who was standing outside.&nbsp;Several shots struck a neighboring house and although witnesses were outside at the time of the shooting, they were not injured.&nbsp;Officers located Sebastian on foot in the 1000 block of South Woodlawn armed with two handguns. Police say Sebastian put down both guns and was arrested without further incident.&nbsp;

Arraignment hearing for shooting that killed Kan. man, injured boy

SALINE&nbsp; COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating an alleged home invasion residential burglary.

Just after 10a.m. Monday, police&nbsp;responded to a residential burglary in the 900 block of N. 13th in Salina, according to Police Captain James Feldman

Contact was made with the 66-year-old male resident, who reported he was mowing the yard and left the door to his residence unsecured. He reported a female, identified as 38-year-old Deliah Ross, of Salina, had walked into his residence without permission and took his phone and a can of pop. 

A 70-year-old female resident attempted to stop Ross from taking the items but was unable to. The male resident made contact with Ross and went to push her out of the residence. He was able to obtain his phone back when Ross threw it, it was not damaged. 

Ross was still on scene when officers arrived. Ross was arrested on requested charges of Aggravated Burglary and Theft. She was booked into the Saline County Jail.
