SEDGWICK COUNTY —The Wichita Police Department (WPD) is warning citizens of a phone scam with individuals calling and telling citizens they are being investigated by National Exploited and Missing Children’s Unit regarding Sex Trafficking or other Sex Crimes, according to Officer Charley Davidson.

 They are asking people for as much as $5000 or they will have them arrested and they will have to go to court for the charges.

Wichita Police will never call anyone to collect money for any reason, and these types of calls are scams.

If you have any questions about the legitimacy of a call, then hang up and call City Hall yourself at (316) 268-4111. This number is answered at all times, and an officer can speak to you about the legitimacy of a call.

Police investigate sex trafficking scam phone calls in Kansas

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating two suspects on drug charges after an investigation at a Kansas home.

On January 14, the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) and the Shawnee County Drug Enforcement Task Force executed a search warrant at a home in the 3500 block of SW Kerry Street in Topeka, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.&nbsp;

During the investigation, deputies found illegal narcotics. The deputies arrested&nbsp; 33-year-old Gator T. A. McClusky III of Topeka and booked him into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of distribution of methamphetamine.&nbsp; They arrested 31-year-old Alexandria E. N. Sheriff: Search warrant leads to arrest of Kan. drug suspects

Chiefs linebacker enters plea for misdemeanor criminal damage

MANHATTAN— A Missouri man has been arrested in connection to a rape reported to have occurred in Manhattan in July 2021, according to a media release from the Riley County Police Department.

On November 1, 2021, officers filed a report for rape, aggravated indecent liberties with a child and aggravated criminal sodomy, listing a now 14-year-old female as the victim and a 19-year-old male as the suspect. 

Marcus Quintin Hall II, 19, of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. was arrested on a warrant Wednesday afternoon after being extradited from the Pulaski County Mo. Jail on requested charges of rape, aggravated criminal sodomy and aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

Hall is confined in the Riley County Jail on a total bond of $150,000.00.

RCPD: Missouri man accused of child sex crimes in Manhattan

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas school paraeducator for alleged sex crimes involving a student.

On Tuesday, police arrested 32-year-old Daniel Alonzo-Hernandez of Wichita, according to the Sedgwick County booking report. He is accused&nbsp; unlawful sexual relations; teacher with student.&nbsp;

On Tuesday a former Wichita high school student reported that as a 17-year-old she was involved in a consensual sexual relationship with a 32-year-old para-educator later identified as Alonzo-Hernandez, according to Officer Trevor Macy.&nbsp; Police arrested and booked him on a requested charge involving sex with the student. He is no longer in custody.

Alonzo-Hernandez is a paraeducator at Wichita South High School, according to online records and is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, according to USD 259.

Police will present the case to the Sedgwick County District Attorney.&nbsp;

Para-educator at Kansas school accused of sex with student

KANSAS CITY (AP) — A member of a U.S. Marshal's task force shot and injured a man in Kansas City on Wednesday, authorities said.

The man's injuries were not believed go be life-threatening, said Sgt. Bill Lowe, a spokesman for the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Members of the task force spotted the man walking down a street. He was wanted on a federal probation violation and a Jackson County warrant for aggravated assault, Lowe said.

The man fled and at one point reached for a handgun in his waistband, prompting the officer to fire, Lowe said in a news conference at the scene. The man was shot in the arm.

The suspect then tried to break into a home. Another officer was injured by glass while struggling to arrest the suspect, Lowe said. The officer was taken to a hospital for observation.

Lowe said the task force includes officers from several law enforcement agencies and he was not immediately sure which agency employed the officer who fired at the suspect.

No names or further information were immediately available.

A Kansas man turned himself in after he shattered the front glass door at the Salina Police Department Tuesday night.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Craig Gilbert, 53, of Salina, walked into the Salina Police Department lobby and used the phone to call the dispatch center and report that he had just shattered the front door of the police department, according to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester.

Officers located a rock in the foyer area and found that the glass door was, indeed, shattered. Damage was estimated at $800.

Gilbert was arrested on the requested charge of damage to property, Forrester reported.

RCPD: Suspect allegedly attacked woman with a child's chair

FRANKLIN COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an alleged assault and have a suspect in custody.

Just after 1:30p.m. Sunday, police responded to report of an armed disturbance in the 800 Block of South Olive Street in Ottawa, according to a media release from police.

A man reported a woman later identified as 35-year-old Karly Robinson threatened him with a machete. The man was able to escape the home and contact police who also learned the suspect had access to a handgun and&nbsp; shotgun in addition to the machete.

Officers were unable to contact Robinson and the Ottawa Police Star team responded to the residence. The Star team, that includes deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff's Department executed a search warrant at the home to find evidence of the alleged assault.&nbsp;

Just after 5p.m., officers made entry into the home and arrested Robinson.&nbsp; She has a 2017 drug conviction in Franklin County, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.

SALINE COUNTY- A registered Kansas sex offender is under investigation for alleged aggravated assault after an incident with his neighbors.

Just after 9:30 p.m. Jan. 14, deputies were sent to 8296 Shane Hunter Drive on the west side of Assaria, according to Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan.

It was reported that 37-year-old Christopher Albertson of Assaria had stepped outside his trailer and was yelling at his neighbors. He allegedly was intoxicated and pointed a bow and arrow at the neighbors, according to Soldan.n No one was injured.&nbsp; Deputies arrested Albertson on a requested charge of aggravated assault. He has previous convictions for a criminal restraint and&nbsp;Aggravated Indecent Liberties GE 14less than 16; Fondling, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.

Kan. sex offender threatened neighbors with bow and arrow

A Salina man who wanted police to remove his roommate ended up being arrested during an alleged incident over the weekend.

Just after 2p.m. Jan. 15, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Baker Street to remove a person from a residence, according to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester.

Upon arrival, they met with Andrew Marquez, 62, of Salina, who wanted his 47-year-old male roommate removed from the residence. According to Forrester, Marquez was highly intoxicated.

While an officer was speaking with the two men, Marquez went to the kitchen and returned holding a large kitchen knife and allegedly threatened both the officer and the roommate, Forrester reported.

The officer ordered Marquez to drop the knife at gunpoint, and he eventually complied and was taken into custody without incident.

Marquez was arrested on requested charges of Aggravated assault and Aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer.

Just 12 a.m. Sunday police responded to report of a shooting at a&nbsp; motel in the 1600 block of South Broadway in Wichita, according to Officer Charley Davidson. 

At the scene, police found 38-year-old Kristopher McFadden at a nearby home with wound to his face.&nbsp;

Investigators learned McFadden and 39-year-old Omar Tejeda-Guzman were in the parking lot of the motel when McFadden allegeldy pointed a gun at Tejeda-Guzman who then fired a handgun at McFadden.

McFadden was treated and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on requested charges of aggravated assault. Tejeda-Guzman was booked for criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.&nbsp; Police also recovered two handguns at the scene.&nbsp;

Police arrest 2 after Kansas motel  parking lot gun fight

TOPEKA—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a burglary and have made an arrest.

Just before 10:30p.m. Friday, police were dispatched to a possible aggravated burglary in progress in the 1400 block of SW Fillmore in Topeka, according to Police Lt. Joe Perry.

The victim reported that unknown suspect had broken into the residence and attacked the resident. with a weapon. The victims were able to subdue the suspect later identified as 28-year-old Robert K. Ball, until police could arrive.

Police booked Ball into the Shawnee County Department of Correction on requested charges of Aggravated Burglary, two counts of Aggravated Assault and two counts of Criminal Damage to property, according to Perry.

Joe Perry.The victim reported that unknown suspect had broken into the residence and attacked the resident. with a weapon. The victims were able to subdue the suspect later identified as 28-year-old Robert K. Ball, until police could arrive.Police booked Ball into the Shawnee County Department of Correction on requested charges of Aggravated Burglary, two counts of Aggravated Assault and two counts of Criminal Damage to property, according to Perry.

Police: Kansas man arrested for alleged aggravated arson

KANSAS CITY (AP) — Kansas City police have identified a man found shot to death inside a vehicle over the weekend.

Maurice Bell, 45, was found Saturday night unresponsive inside a vehicle sitting in the front yard of a home, police said in a news release. Bell died at the scene.

Kansas City police spokesman Sgt. Jake Becchina said investigators believe Bell was shot while he was inside the vehicle before it rolled to a stop in the yard.

No arrests had been announced by Monday morning in the shooting.

The Kansas City Star reported that Bell's death marked the city's third homicide for 2022.

KC police ID city's third homicide victim of 2022

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting in connection with a drug deal and have a suspect in custody.

Just after 6:00 p.m. Jan. 12, police were dispatched to a shooting call in the 1800 block of S Greenwood in Wichita, according to Officer Trevor Macy. They arrived to find a 35-year-old victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Before officers arrived, it was reported that the suspect, later&nbsp;identified as 34-year-old Nathaniel Kester of Wichita had fled the scene in the victim's vehicle.

Officers learned that the victim and Kester were at a home on Greenwood when a disturbance occurred, and Kester went to the backyard and fired two rounds from a handgun. The victim confronted Kester and was shot in the leg. Kester then forced the victim to get into a vehicle, where another struggle ensued, and two more shots were fired.

The victim was able to get the gun away from Kester and retreat into the home. Shortly after officers arrived on Greenwood, 911 operators received multiple calls about the victim's vehicle, which was reported to have crashed somewhere near 2nd and Topeka Street in Wichita.

The vehicle continued to Central and Main, where it was abandoned, and Kester ran to the Sedgwick County Jail where he was arrested, according to Macy.

Both Kester and the victim were transported to the hospital for treatment and released.&nbsp;<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=189992"> Kester was booked</a> to the Sedgwick County Jail on requested charges of aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and aggravated kidnapping, according to Macy. It is believed that drugs were a factor.&nbsp;Kester has previous convictions for burglary, theft, criminal damage to property and criminal possession of a firearm, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.

Police: Kan. felon ran to the jail where he was arrested for shooting incident

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A doctor&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/crime-education-arrests-missouri-springfield-82fb42da6ca67eab3a03238e14421ec3">charged with 11 felony sex abuse crimes&nbsp;</a>involving children at a Missouri boarding school has pleaded not guilty to three of the charges.

Dr. David Smock, a longtime physician at Agape Boarding School, entered the plea Thursday in Greene County Court. His preliminary hearing was scheduled for Feb. 3.

In Greene County, Smock is accused of abusing an Agape student in 2018 at a rental property he owned in Springfield.

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt has filed eight more charges against Smock in Cedar County, where the Agape Boarding School is located.

On Thursday, Smock's attorneys argued that Smock should be released from prison on bond while awaiting trial. Greene County Circuit Judge Ron Carrier took the request under advisement.

Smock&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/springfield-missouri-arkansas-crime-arrests-5e6b6de6d155bcc8aa189caf18393b00">was arrested in December</a>&nbsp;in Harrison, Arkansas. Prosecutors said at the time they considered him a fugitive from justice. His attorneys said Smock was on his way back to Missouri to turn himself in when he was arrested.

In Greene County, Smock is charged with second-degree statutory sodomy; third-degree child molestation of a child younger than 14; and enticement or attempted enticement of a child younger than 15.

Christian boarding school doctor enters plea to child sex crimes

PAWNEE COUNTY – A Pawnee County jury found Roy Gene Hill, 59 of Osage, Kansas guilty of a child sex crime during a trial Thursday, according to Pawnee County Attorney Doug McNett.

The jury heard testimony that the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call on February 10, 2019, at approximately 5 a.m. to respond to a possible sexual assault of a minor at a residence in Garfield, Kansas. 

Once at the residence the responding officers were advised by the owners that their 13 year old granddaughter had been awaken in her bedroom at approximately 3 a.m. by a man touching her inappropriately. 

The girl told the officers that she recognized the assailant as being her grandparent’s house guest.

The teenager testified at trial that after the assault occurred she was too scared to leave her room as she would have to pass the defendant to get to her grandmother’s room. 

Hill had been staying on the family’s couch for several weeks. She attempted to call and text her grandmother serval times, but her grandmother did not wake up for over an hour. Hill was arrested at the scene without incident. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation handled the follow-up investigation.

The jury made up of 7 men and 5 women deliberated for approximately one hour Thursday afternoon before returning Guilty verdict of Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child Under the Age of 14. The defense argued law enforcement rushed to judgment and conducted an insufficient investigation.

Hill previously entered a No Contest plea on December 16, 2021, to Count 2 in the case to a charge of Failing to Register as a Sex Offender with the Pawnee County Sheriff.

Under the Kansas Offender Registration Act, offenders are required to notify the local sheriff if they remain in a County for more than 3 days. At the time, Hill was subject to life-time registration due to a previous Aggravated Indecent Liberties conviction for an incident in Neosho County in 2002. 

Pursuant to a pretrial order, the Jury was not informed of Hill’s prior sex conviction, nor his duty to register.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 24, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.. The defendant has been in the custody of the Pawnee County Sheriff since February 10, 2019. Based on his prior sex offense, Hill now faces a mandatory 40 year under the Jessica’s Law sentencing provisions, according to McNett.

Kan. sex offender faces 40-years in prison for another child sex crime

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — A man has been arrested after hundreds of pigs died at his farm last month after they went without adequate food and were kept in conditions so cold that some of their ears froze off.

Black Hawk County sheriff’s deputies arrested the 38-year-old&nbsp;Nolan Otto Dewall on Monday on one count of livestock neglect, a misdemeanor.

Dewall had been hired to raise 2,500 baby pigs until they reached around 280 pounds, according to court records. The animals were delivered to his farm in rural Cedar Falls in late December with 15 tons of feed.

By Dec. 30, a consultant found that 800 of the pigs had died and that the animals didn’t have ready access to water and some didn’t have access to food. The consultant also found temperatures inside the barns was found to be under 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius), when freshly weened hogs need temperatures around 80 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit to survive, court records state.

Authorities removed the remaining pigs from the farm to another facility, 51 pigs perished during the move and another 60 died in the following days, records state. The hogs died of malnutrition and dehydration, a state veterinarian determined.

Man arrested after hundreds of pigs die from neglect

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (AP) — A former Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle was found dead in a Kansas federal prison where he was being held on charges of illegal firearms possession, a prison official said. 

Saousoalii Siavii Jr., 43, was found unresponsive at the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth on Thursday afternoon, U.S. Bureau of Prisons spokeswoman Anna Armijo said in a statement, The Kansas City Star reported. 

Siavii was treated by prison staff and taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The prison did not release additional details about Siavii’s death. 

From American Samoa, the former Oregon lineman was drafted by Kansas City in the second round in 2004 and spent two seasons with the Chiefs. He played for Dallas in 2009 and Seattle in 2010.

Just before 11p.m. Tuesday, a sheriff's deputy stopped a 2005 Volvo G60 for a traffic infraction near 126th and U.S. 75 Highway, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

 Further investigation into the traffic stop led to the arrest of the back seat passenger, Tony Eugene Stith, 58, of Wichita. Stith was arrested and is being held in the Jackson County Jail for distribution of methamphetamine, distribution of a hallucinogenic drug, possession of mushrooms and LSD, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and no drug tax stamp.&nbsp; He has previous convictions that include destroying evidence in a felony case, aggravated failure to appear and for drugs.

Sheriff: Kansas felon back in jail accused of drug distribution

BARTON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect for alleged robbery in Barton County.

Just after 4p.m. Thursday, police were dispatched to the Holiday Inn Express, 3821 10th Street in Great Bend in reference to an attempted robbery, according to a media release.

Officers were advised a male suspect entered the hotel and attempted to physically remove and steal jewelry from someone in the lobby.

While en route to the area, officers were advised the suspect had left the Holiday Inn and was now trying to take items from inside vehicles in the Sonic parking lot.

Officers located the suspect identified as Marquez Lewis, age 25 of Wichita. After speaking with Lewis, witnesses and numerous victims, Lewis was placed under arrest for attempted robbery and transported to the Barton County Jail.

YORK COUNTY —State toopers arrested two people after locating 130 pounds of marijuana and a firearm during a traffic stop on Thursday.

Just after 4:00 p.m., a trooper observed a Ford Explorer fail to signal a turn after exiting Interstate 80 near Waco, according to a media release from the Nebraska State Patrol. During the traffic stop, the trooper became suspicious of criminal activity.

A search of the vehicle revealed 130 pounds of marijuana, located in duffel bags in the cargo area. Troopers also located a handgun in the vehicle.

Troopers arrested the driver, Alexander Garcia, 24, of Summerfield, Florida, and passenger, Ashley Gornto, 29, of Belleview, Florida, on requested charges of possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession with intent to deliver, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm during a drug violation, and no drug tax stamp. Both are being held in the York County Jail. It is approximately 2-hours north of Salina, Kansas.

Troopers also located a handgun in the vehicle.Troopers arrested the driver, Alexander Garcia, 24, of Summerfield, Florida, and passenger, Ashley Gornto, 29, of Belleview, Florida, on requested charges of possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession with intent to deliver, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm during a drug violation, and no drug tax stamp. Both are being held in the York County Jail. It is approximately 2-hours north of Salina, Kansas.

State troopers seize 130 pounds of marijuana during traffic stop

Members of a large-scale theft ring have been charged by Federal and State prosecutors for their roles in an organization whose operations crossed state lines and caused more than $10 million in losses to retailers, according to U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson and Oklahoma Attorney General John O’Connor.

This week, local, state, and federal law enforcement arrested 24 defendants in Tulsa and the surrounding areas, as part of Operation Booster Buster. Five defendants remain at large.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office charged a total of 29 defendants with taking part in the largescale retail theft ring staged out of northeastern Oklahoma.

“Organized retail crime is costly to the economic well-being of our communities. This alleged retail theft ring is estimated to have caused retailers more than $10 million in losses,” said U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson. “A joint team of investigators have worked meticulously over the past several years to connect the evidence and bring this case forward for prosecution. I am thankful for their professionalism and persistence.”

“This investigation was complex, challenging, and lengthy,” Oklahoma Attorney General John O’Connor said. “These are serious crimes. Organized crime is on the rise nationwide, and my office is committed to holding criminals accountable for their actions. I want to thank the state, local, and federal law enforcement agents and prosecutors for their work and partnership in this case.”

Charges were announced at a press conference Thursday. U.S. Attorney Johnson and Oklahoma Attorney General O’Connor were joined by Tulsa Chief of Police Wendell Franklin, Special Agent in Charge Christopher Miller of Homeland Security Investigations, Special Agent in Charge Christopher Altemus Jr. of IRS-Criminal Investigation, and Tulsa County Sheriff Vic Regalado.

Stores targeted include Reasor’s, Sprouts, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Costco, Walgreens, CVS, GNC and others.

For example, on Sept. 4, 2019, defendants&nbsp;Amber Clayson, Latoya Duhart&nbsp;and others allegedly boosted $1,329 worth of over-the-counter products, such as Flonase, Mucinex, Nexium, Zegerid, and Allegra, from a Reasor’s in Jenks, Oklahoma.

According to the federal indictment and the state’s probable cause affidavit, defendant&nbsp;Linda Been&nbsp;led the ring of “boosters” that netted $4.5 million from the sale of stolen merchandise and over-the-counter products to fencing organizations outside of Oklahoma. “Fences” then sold the stolen products through e-commerce sites, like eBay and Amazon.

Normally, fences paid Been half the market value for each item. Been, in turn, paid boosters half of her expected profit for each item they brought to her. Financial payments for stolen products were normally made through PayPal, Venmo, and Cash App, and some payments were made with drugs.

Been provided her boosters with a detailed list of items to steal and the pricing she would pay for each. She further instructed her ring on boosting techniques, including box stuffing. Box stuffing occurs when criminals conceal higher-value items inside lower-value item boxes and only paying for the lower-valued items.

Been and her team of boosters allegedly stole products from retailers in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Colorado. Been would pay boosters’ expenses when they traveled outside the state. She would further pay boosters’ bond when arrested so they could continue boosting.

Boosters would then deliver the goods to predetermined locations in Tulsa, Sand Springs, and Cleveland, Oklahoma.&nbsp;Defendants Billy Osborne, Juston Osborne, Corey Fields, and Amanda Johnson&nbsp;allegedly helped manage the operation by storing stolen inventory at their residences or businesses and by prepping the merchandise for bulk shipments to fences outside the state. Been also stored stolen merchandise at her residences, prepared inventories, coordinated payment, and shipped the pallets of stolen items.

“Consumers and businesses incur a high price for thieves who commit larcenies and profit by selling their stolen goods to well organized theft rings,” said Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin. “Thieves should take notice. Tulsa is not going to capitulate and allow criminals to disrupt commerce in our city.”

“These federal indictments are a result of the tremendous work and collaboration accomplished by our trusted law enforcement partners, said Christopher Miller, acting Special Agent in Charge HSI Dallas. “It does not matter where these criminal networks operate and sell their illegally acquired goods. We will work without end to ensure those involved are investigated and brought to justice.”

The investigation into the retail theft ring began in 2019 when an organized crime investigator from a pharmacy retailer shared information with Tulsa Police Detectives about bulk thefts at their Tulsa area locations. Investigators linked several boosters in the Tulsa area to&nbsp;Been and her son, state defendant&nbsp;Curtis Leon Gann Jr. They also noted that Been and Gann Jr. were allegedly selling over-the-counter medications, along with other commonly stolen items on their eBay accounts.

The Tulsa Police Department reached out to lead investigator Agent Thomas Helm with the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office. Once it was determined that crimes linked to Been’s retail theft organization also occurred in surrounding states, a federal investigation was launched.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office, Tulsa Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and IRS Criminal Investigation joined forces to lead Operation Booster Buster. HSI Task Force Officers from the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office also joined in the investigation.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, IRS-Criminal Investigation, the Tulsa Police Department, Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office, and Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney’s Richard M. Cella and Reagan V. Reininger are prosecuting the case on behalf of the federal government. Senior Deputy Attorney General Joy Thorp and Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Dane Towery are prosecuting the case on behalf of the state of Oklahoma.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

29 charged in shoplifting ring that hit pharmacies in Kansas

KANSAS CITY– A Kansas City man has pleaded guilty in federal court to his role in an armed carjacking that led to a high-speed chase in which he collided with another vehicle and killed another motorist, according to the United State's Attorney.

Derrell M. Wade, 20, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Stephen R. Bough to one count of carjacking and one count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.

Co-defendants Michael A. Brown, 20, and Curtis R. Daniels, 19, both of Kansas City also have pleaded guilty to carjacking. Brown and Daniels both have been sentenced to five years in federal prison without parole.

Wade and his co-defendants participated in a carjacking that occurred at approximately 10:35 p.m. on Aug. 24. Wade pressed the barrel of his gun against the forehead of the victim, identified in court documents as “T.R.,” and demanded the keys to his gold 2007 Prius. Another person took T.R.’s cell phone from his hand. T.R. was repeatedly struck in the back with an unknown object by a third person, and told to stay on his knees. The three men then fled in T.R.’s vehicle.

T.R. immediately contacted law enforcement, and used his wife’s cell phone to track his stolen cell phone, using the Find My Phone app. Police officers saw the stolen Prius driving southbound on Lister Avenue, passing over the main thoroughfare of East 23rd Street, at about 11:09 p.m. the same day. Officers pulled behind the vehicle, which was being driven by Wade, and the vehicle accelerated a high rate of speed away from the officers. Officers activated their emergency equipment and initiated a pursuit of the vehicle.

After running the stop sign at 23rd Street and Lawn Avenue, the Prius collided with another vehicle. This collision resulted in the fatality of an occupant from that vehicle and injuries to another person.Wade attempted to run away but fell to the ground. As he was falling, he pulled a loaded Smith and Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun from his waistband and threw it in the grass.Brown got out of the passenger side rear door of the Prius and began running toward Elmwood Avenue. He was found hiding near a grill in a residential backyard and arrested.Daniels, who was sitting in the front passenger seat of the Prius, was arrested without incident.<a></a><a>If the court accepts the binding plea agreement, Wade will be sentenced to 13 years in federal prison without parole.&nbsp;</a>A sentencing hearing will be held on June 2.
