SEDGWICK COUNTY —A 2-month Kansas boy hospitalized with critical injuries on January 10 has died.

Marrell Williams of Wichita died Thursday night after he and and his twin sister were taken to a hospital with injuries in a case of alleged child abuse, according to officer Charley Davidson. This is the second baby who has died in child abuse investigations in two days.&nbsp;

On Wednesday, 9-month-old Maela Flores who was seriously injured January 10 died at a Wichita hospital, according Police Captain Brent Allred.

Just after noon January 10, police responded to an assist EMS call regarding a child not breathing at a home in the 2800 Block of South Emporia in Wichita, according Allred.

Upon arrival offices located the 2-month-old boy unresponsive. EMS transported the child to a local hospital where it was discovered he had serious internal injuries, according to Allred.&nbsp;

Investigators learned the boy also had a broken clavicle that was healing in addition to the injuries discovered during the EMS call. His 2-month-old twin sister had a healing broken femur, according to Allred.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested the children's father 22-year-old Marlin Williams.&nbsp; He was charged Tuesday with three counts o<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20064881">f aggravated battery</a>&nbsp;and is being held on a $250,000 bond.

&nbsp;A 1-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl at William's home were not injured and remain in police protective custody.&nbsp;The mother of the children was not at home at the time of the arrest.&nbsp;

Police will present the case to the Sedgwick County District Attorney for additional charges, according to officer Charley Davidson.

&nbsp;Maela Flores was also hospitalized with critical injuries since police were called to her Wichita home last week.

Her mother's boyfriend, 25-year-old Brietan Rader, was charged Tuesday with two counts of child abuse and two drug charges. Officer Charley Davidson said he expects Rader will be charged with first-degree murder in Maela's death.

Rader was arrested after officers found the girl critically injured in an apartment that had a marijuana-growing operation. Investigators determined the girl’s injuries happened while Rader was caring for her.

Police: 2nd baby this week dies after injuries from alleged child abuse

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) -A Kansas man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 22-year-old sister, Johnson County prosecutors said Thursday.

John Parker Mays, 27, Lawrence, was arrested Tuesday night in Douglas County after his sister, Layne Mays, was found dead, Overland Park police spokesman John Lacy said. He was charged Thursday and is being held on $1 million bond. Authorities have not said how Layne Mays died.

Kansas man charged with sister's murder; she attended K-State

DAWSON COUNTY. NE- State Troopers arrested four people and seized marijuana, THC products, and fraudulent credit cards during three traffic stops on Interstate 80 Tuesday, according to a media release from the Nebraska State Patrol.

Just after 5 p.m., a trooper observed a Honda sedan fail to signal a turn while exiting I-80 at Kearney. During the traffic stop, the trooper detected clandestine activity and performed a search of the vehicle, revealing 15 pounds of marijuana and approximately $1,500.

The driver, Peter Blizzard, 43, of Redway, California, was arrested for possession of marijuana – more than one pound, possession with intent to deliver, and possession of money during a felony drug violation. Blizzard was lodged in Buffalo County Jail.

At approximately 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, a trooper observed an eastbound Chevrolet Malibu speeding near Lexington at mile marker 242. During the traffic stop, a K9 from the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office detected the odor of a controlled substance. A search of the vehicle revealed 53 pounds of marijuana, 3 pounds of THC wax, and 300 THC vape cartridges.

The driver, Nathan Wessels, 24, of Lincoln, was arrested for possession of marijuana – more than one pound and possession with intent to deliver. He was lodged in Dawson County Jail.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, another trooper noticed a Range Rover speeding on I-80 at mile marker 305, near Alda. During the traffic stop, the trooper because suspicious of criminal activity. Troopers searched the vehicle and found multiple fraudulent credit cards, a forgery device, and marijuana.

The driver, Elliot Wills II, 27, of Chicago, Illinois, and passenger, Ahnaya Mosley, 21, of Santa Clarita, California, was arrested for criminal possession of a financial transaction device, possession of blank financial transaction devices, possession of a forgery device, unlawful manufacture of a financial transaction device, and possession of marijuana – less than an ounce. Both were lodged in Hall County Jail.

BARTON COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect for alleged distribution of meth.&nbsp;

Just after 4 p.m. Tuesday, conducted a traffic stop on a white Ford Escape driven&nbsp; by Candace D. Johnson, age 44 of Great Bend in the 2200 block of 12th St. in Great Bend, according to a media release.

Sheriff’s Office K9 Maxx was at the scene and indicated the presence of controlled substances in the vehicle. Sheriff’s deputies discovered methamphetamine in the vehicle.

Johnson was transported to the Barton County Jail without incident. She was booked on requested charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine. Johnson is being held in lieu of a $300,000 bond.

Johnson had previously been arrested in “Operation Snowplow” in 2018. She has three previous drug convictions, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Sheriff: Kansas felon arrested again for alleged drug distribution

SALINE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon with two previous DUI convictions on a new DUI charge after an accident Wednesday in Saline County.

Just after 5p.m., a 2011 Chevy Malibu driven by Jeremy Eilrich, 30, of Salina, was eastbound on West Bond Street in Salina when he allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign at Highland Avenue and struck a 2018 Buick Encore driven by Marcia Demuth, 55, of Salina, according Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester. The drivers were not injured.&nbsp;

When the officer made contact with Eilrich, he possibly appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, according to Forrester. A test was administered and Eilrich was arrested on requested charges that include Felony DUI, Failure to stop at a stop sign and&nbsp; no proof of insurance.

In addition to DUI, Eilrich has previous convictions for burglary, aggravated battery and drugs, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

WICHITA, KAN. (AP) — A Kansas man has been charged with fatally stabbing his sister's ex-boyfriend during a Wichita fight.

Morgan Prager, 24, Pittsburg, Kansas, made his first appearance Wednesday in Sedgwick County District Court on charges of second degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is jailed on $250,000 bond.

Wichita police say officers responded Saturday to an assault call and found 19-year-old Vincent Venturella suffering from a severe neck laceration. Police say the men had fought about Prager's sister. Venturella died Monday night.

Prager was arrested in Pittsburg.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/kansas">Kansas</a>&nbsp;Department of Corrections records show that he had been discharged in December from community corrections after previous convictions for theft and criminal possession of a firearm in Wyandotte County.

Just after 7a.m. January 9,&nbsp;the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center received a call about a Toyota Tacoma that was stolen in the city of Auburn, according to&nbsp;Deputy Abigail Christian.

Sheriff’s deputies, with assistance from the truck owner, were able to locate the truck in the 600 block of SE Lime Street.&nbsp; A Kia Optima, reported stolen out of Jackson County, was also located at that address.

Deputes arrested Rachael R. Ratzloff, 21, of Topeka, on requested charges that included multiple counts of burglary and theft.

Just after 2:30p.m. January 14, deputies arrested another suspect identified as Cody Brown, 22, Topeka, near SE 5th and Lafayette Street after a short foot pursuit, according to Lt. Todd Stallbaumer. 

Brown tossed a firearm&nbsp; during the chase. Deputies recovered it later. He is being held on requested charges that include burglary of vehicle, felon in possession of a firearm, felony theft and criminal damage to property.

&nbsp;The investigation and video surveillance identified a third suspect identified as&nbsp; Cheyenne N. Thomas, 23, of Topeka.&nbsp;

The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the community’s assistance in locating her.

At approximately 11:20 p.m. January 10, police responded to an assist the fire department call at a home in the 3600 block of West 13th&nbsp;street North in Wichita, regarding a child not breathing, according to Captain Brent Allred.&nbsp; Upon arrival, officers located Flores with critical injuries.&nbsp; She was taken to an area hospital for medical treatment and died Wednesday.

The investigation revealed Flores received the critical injures while in the care of Rader, which led to his arrest.&nbsp; An additional 6-year-old boy and a 2-year-old boy were also at the home, were uninjured, and taken into police protective custody.

Additionally, during the investigation, officers discovered a marijuana grow operation inside the apartment.

He is currently jailed on a $250,000 bond.

 </figure>SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a case of alleged child abuse that sent two children to a hospital. Their father, 22-year-old Marlin D. Williams, Jr.,&nbsp; accused of abuse made his first court appearance on Tuesday, according to the Sedgwick County Attorney's office.On December 10, police responded to an assist EMS call regarding a child not breathing at a home in the 2800 Block of South Emporia in Wichita, according to Captain Brent Allred.Upon arrival offices located a 2-month-old boy unresponsive. EMS transported the child to a local hospital where it was discovered he had serious internal injuries, according to Allred.&nbsp;Investigators learned the boy had a broken clavicle that was healing in addition to the injuries discovered during the EMS call. His 2-month-old twin sister had a healing broken femur, according to Allred.As a result of the investigation, police arrested Williams.&nbsp; He was charged Tuesday with on three counts o<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20064881">f aggravated battery</a>&nbsp;and is being held on a $250,000 bond.The boy and his sister remain hospitalized.&nbsp; A 1-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl at William home were not injured and placed into police protective custody.&nbsp;The mother of the children was not at home at the time of the arrest.&nbsp;

Father of Kan. twins found with serious injuries makes court appearance

ELLIS COUNTY —A man with a lengthy criminal history was arrested in Hays after a misplaced backpack led Hays Police to the suspect.

Michael Earl Emerick, 23, Plainville, is a suspect in at least two instances of using a stolen financial card and was arrested at 3:29 p.m. Dec. 27.

On Dec. 23,&nbsp; financial cards were reported stolen from a vehicle at a local store. Other cards were reported stolen after a vehicle was entered overnight on Dec. 24 from the 100 block of West Fourth, according to&nbsp;Hays Deputy Chief of Police Brian Dawson.

Cards from both victims were found on Emerick at the time of his arrest, he said.

Emerick was located after he was given a ride from Plainville by an unnamed individual.

Unbeknownst to the driver, Emerick allegedly paid for gas with one of the stolen cards and later left his backpack at the driver's house, which led to the HPD to search for Emerick, according to Dawson.

He was spotted on the 400 block East Eighth but left the area as police were searching for him.

He was later located in the 200 block of East 21st.

He was arrested on suspicion of drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, burglary and theft.

Emerick has previous convictions in Saline County for drug possession, theft, criminal use of a financial card, obstruction of a legal process and aggravated failure to appear, according to Community Corrections records.

Emerick is currently in custody in the Ellis County jail.

Just before 3a.m. Tuesday, a deputy noticed a truck in the 5500 Block of Lincolnshire Circle in rural Shawnee County that possibly belonged to a suspect with a lifetime stalking order in effect, according to Deputy Shayna Anderson.

The protected party is a resident in that area. The truck quickly left and due to heavy fog, the deputy was unable to pursue the vehicle.

Another deputy located the vehicle a short time later as it entered Interstate 70 from SW Wanamaker Road. The deputy conducted a traffic stop near SW 6th and Rock Garden Drive.

The deputy made an arrest and booked the driver identified as Charles F. Adkins, 50, Topeka, on a requested charge of felony violation of a stalking order, a felony probation violation and traffic violations, according to Anderson.

December 10, the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit and SWAT Team assisted the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) with the service of a narcotic search warrant in the 1200 block of SW Medford in Topeka, according to Sgt. Todd Staulbaumer.

Officers seized methamphetamine, marijuana and firearms from the residence. They also&nbsp; Alex Hidalgo,32, of Topeka on requested charges of narcotic distribution.

Three juveniles, including a seven month old and 2 four-year olds, were placed into police protective custody pending a hearing due to being in the environment where narcotics were located and used.&nbsp;&nbsp;

SWAT team helps DEA arrest wanted Kan. felon for alleged drug distribution

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a murder, have made an arrest and continue the search for the victim's body. 

Just after noon on December 29, a 58-year-old man reported to police that 53-year-old Jeffrey Hill had been involved a criminal homicide in the 2100 Block of South Water in Wichita, according to police captain Brent Allred.

The victim had been taken to an unknown location outside of Wichita and buried.

Police later learned the victim was 50-year-old Jeffry Jones of Hutchison. The examination of evidence and witness interviews led police to arrest Hill after a traffic stop in Wichita on Monday, according to Allred.

When officers stopped the 1999 Chevy Suburban, Hill fled on foot. Officers quickly chased him down. Police also located meth, marijuana and narcotic pills in the SUV.&nbsp; 

Hill is being held on without <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=52197">bond&nbsp; for second-degree murder,</a> possession of meth with intent to sell, possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana and resisting arrest.

Police have not located the victim's body, according to Allred.&nbsp; &nbsp;They are also working to determine a motive for the crime.

Hill has previous convictions for aggravated robbery, burglary, theft, forgery, identity theft, drugs and for trafficking in contraband in a penal institution, according to Allred.

Kan. felon suspected in death of man whose body is missing

SEDGWICK COUNTY — The man critically injured in an aggravated knife attack in Wichita has died, according to police captain Brent Allred.

Just after 5p.m. January 11, police responded to an assault call at a home in the 200 block of North Spruce in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson.

Upon arrival, police found a 19-year-old man identified as&nbsp;Vincent Venturella with a severe laceration to his neck. Investigators learned that 24-year-old Morgan Prager&nbsp; of Pittsburg, Kansas arrived at the residence. He and the Venturella were involved in a dispute over an ex-girlfriend and a sister, according to Davidson.

Prager cut Venturella and fled from the home. Wichita police coordinated efforts with police in Pittsburg to arrest Prager and bring him back to Wichita, according to Davidson.

Venturella died Monday night.&nbsp; Prager is being held on a $250,000 bond on a requested charge of f<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20064881">irst-degree murder,&nbsp;</a>according to online jail records.

The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney.

The Latest: Kansas man injured in knife attack has died

At approximately 8 p.m. on Thursday, the WPD animal services section received a phone call from the Wichita Animal Action League regarding information they had received about a living brown Pitbull and Boxer mix inside of a cage and discarded in a trash dumpster in the 2200 block of South Oliver in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson.

The WPD animal services section and WPD animal cruelty investigator went to work on the case.&nbsp; The investigation, tips provided to Crime Stoppers, and witness interviews led to the arrest of 26-year-old Raykesha Hardyway of Wichita on requested charges animal cruelty, abandonment - failure to provide adequate provisions and an outstanding warrant.

The Animal Action League described the dog as “very sweet and loving." The group is asking for donations for his medical care. The  dog was dehydrated and will need slow, small meals over a long period of time because feeding him too quickly could be dangerous. It will likely be months before he is eligible for adoption.

The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

Kansas woman arrested after dog found in cage in dumpster 

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man for alleged child abuse.

Just before 11:30 p.m. 10, police and EMS were dispatched to the 3600 block of West 13th street North in Wichita for a child not breathing, according to Captain Brent Allred. At the scene, they discovered a 9-month-old girl with critical injuries.&nbsp; EMS transported her to a local hospital where she remains hospitalized in very critical condition, according to Allred.

Investigators learned&nbsp; the child received injuries while in the care of 25-year-old Breitan Radar at the home. That led to his arrest on requested charges of child abuse, child endangerment, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, cultivation of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=398601">held on a $250,000 bond, </a>according to online jail records.

A 6-year-old boy and a 2-year-old boy found at the home were placed in police protective custody.&nbsp; Radar is the father of 6-year-old and not the father of the victim.

During the investigation officers discovered a marijuana grow operation inside the apartment.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Radar had called the mother to tell her the baby was not breathing. The mother saw a Sedgwick County Sheriff's Deputy's vehicle, contacted the deputy who followed her to the home.

The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office

SALINE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating two suspects on drug charges after a Sunday traffic stop in Saline County.

Sophia Lamas&nbsp;-Saline County Sheriff

Just after 1:30 a.m., a Saline County deputy noticed a 2007 Chevy Cavalier commit a traffic violation in the 200 block of East Elm Street in Salina, according to Undersheriff Brent Melander.

The deputy stopped the car, which was driven by Sophia Lamas, 34, of Salina.

During the course of the investigation, it was found that Lamas was driving on a suspended license and that a purse in the car held 1.25 pounds of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a handgun, Melander said.

A woman in the front passenger seat was arrested when the name she gave the deputy turned up with outstanding warrants, however it turned out that the woman had given the deputy the name of someone else who happened to have outstanding warrants, according to Melander. Turns out the passenger really was Joanna Deniston, 29, of Salina.

A second gun allegedly associated with Deniston also was located in the car.

Lamas was arrested on requested charges that include drug and traffic violations along with an outstanding warrant.

Deniston was arrested on similar drug charges and two outstanding warrants.

Kan. deputy finds gun, 1.25 pounds of meth in woman's purse

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a case of alleged child abuse that sent two children to a hospital.

At noon Friday, police responded to an assist EMS call regarding a child not breathing at a home in the 2800 Block of South Emporia in Wichita, according to Captain Brent Allred.

Investigators learned the boy had previous injuries in addition to the injuries discovered Friday. His 2-month-old twin sister had a healing broken femur.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested 22-year-old Marlin D. Williams, Jr.,&nbsp; on <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20064881">requested charges of aggravated battery,</a> according to Allred.&nbsp; The boy and his sister remain hospitalized.&nbsp;

Police also located a 1-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl at the home. They were not injured and placed into police protective custody.&nbsp;

Williams is the father of the children. Police believe the injuries were physical. The 2-year-old also had a healing broken clavicle, according to Allred.

Police: Kan. father arrested, twins hospitalized with serious injuries

RILEY COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a report of&nbsp; embezzlement in Manhattan.

Just after noon Friday, police reported the alleged crime in the 1200 Block of Hylton Heights Road in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department Activity Report.

Officers listed Hearing Doctors as the victim when it was reported a known 38-year-old woman took money from the business. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $19,447.00.

Police reported no additional details and have not reported an arrest.

RCPD investigates $19,000 embezzlement from Manhattan business

COWLEY COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating two suspects on drug charges after a traffic stop.

On December 7, a police officer conducted a traffic stop on vehicle in the 500 block of North Sixth Street in Arkansas City for driving on the wrong side of the roadway, according to a media release.

During the traffic stop, the officer determined that the tag on the vehicle had expired and the vehicle had an open title that did not show proper ownership or proof of insurance.

Because the vehicle could not be operated legally on a city street, officers conducted an inventory of the vehicle prior to its being towed from the scene. During this search, they discovered items of drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine. 

Further investigation led to the arrest of two of the passengers. Larry Charles Armstrong Jr., 37, Ponca City, Oklahoma, was arrested on requested charges of one felony count each of no drug tax stamp and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, as well as one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

They also arrested Jamie Hugo Gutierrez, 26, Ponca City, Oklahoma, on requested charges of felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.&nbsp;

Both Armstrong and Gutierrez remained in custody.

Police catch 2 drug suspects driving on the wrong side of Kan. road

SHAWNEE COUNTY— Law enforcement authorities are investigating an armed robbery and have two suspects in custody.

Just before 1:30p.m. Thursday, police responded to the 3700 block of SW Park South Court in Topeka regarding an aggravated robbery to an individual, according to Lt. Manuel Munoz. The victim stated that two black males robbed him at gunpoint and fled in a white Ford SUV. 

Nearby officers spotted a vehicle matching the given description near 37th and Kirklawn. 

The driver of the SUV later identified as&nbsp;Alonzo Jerome Boyd Jr, 18, Topeka, initiated a vehicle pursuit that lasted approximately five minutes, traveling through southeast Topeka. 

Boyd disabled the vehicle at 15th and Adams by striking a curb. Both occupants fled on foot but were quickly apprehended. A Police K9 caught Boyd. They were not injured.&nbsp;

As a result of the investigation, officers arrested Boyd and booked him into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Aggravated Robbery, Theft by Threat, Reckless Driving and other traffic related charges, according to Munoz.

A 17 year-old boy&nbsp; was also taken into custody and booked into Juvenile Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Felony Interference with a Law Enforcement Officer.
