A manhunt that lasted more than six hours early Tuesday morning led to an arrest of a Hoxie man in Hays.

At 12:10 a.m. Tuesday Hays Police were dispatched to a report of a beer bottle thrown at a house in the 500 block of east Seventh Street.

Upon arrival officers found a door kicked in what the suspect described as a search for his girlfriend, according to Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler. The house was unrelated to the suspect or the girlfriend.

Officers began a search after the suspect, later identified as Victor E. Beltran-Amaya, 20, Hoxie, fled the scene.

A search was also underway for the girlfriend in an effort to check her welfare, Scheibler said.

During the search a second altercation between Beltran-Amaya, the girlfriend and others occurred in the 1100 block of east 17th Street.

A search perimeter was set up in an effort to locate Beltran-Amaya from 13th Street to 17th Street and from General Custer to Dechant.

At around 6:30 a.m. police located Beltran-Amaya, and he was arrested on suspicion of attempted aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, domestic battery, criminal damage to property, battery, interference with law enforcement, criminal restraint and criminal trespass.

Scheibler said there were many instances that might have led to an escalation of violence in this case, and he was grateful no one was seriously injured.&nbsp;

The suspect should be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, Scheibler said.

Kidnapping suspect arrested after manhunt in Hays

SHAWNEE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new charges after barricading himself in a residence following a domestic incident Tuesday.

Just before 6a.m. Tuesday, the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center began receiving reports of a domestic disturbance in the 4100 block of SW Shenandoah Road, according to police spokesperson Gretchen Koenen.

 The suspect identified as 41-year-old Michael Stringfield of Topeka then drove to a residence in the 6200 block of SW 26th Court.

 The Topeka Police Department Response Team and Crisis Negotiators responded to the scene and began speaking with the suspect. After nearly three hours of negotiations, the suspect surrendered himself peacefully to officers.&nbsp;Stringfield was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested&nbsp;charges that include Domestic Battery and Interference with Law Enforcement. 

He has previous convictions for burglary, criminal threat, battery, domestic battery and obstruction, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections and had been out of prison since November 2015.

Kansas felon jailed after 3-hour standoff with police

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal shooting and have identified the suspect.

Just after 11:45 p.m. on Monday, officers responded to a shooting call at the Country Inn in the 800 block of South Broadway, according to Captain Brett Allred.&nbsp; Upon arrival, the 34-year-old male victim was located inside his 2005 gray Ford F250 with a gunshot wound to his body.&nbsp; Officers began lifesaving techniques, but he succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

The investigation and reviewing evidence revealed the victim was from Colorado and was in Wichita working and arrived at the location when he was contacted by the Suspect identified as 40-year-old Tyrone Adams, who fired a handgun at the victim, striking him.&nbsp;

Adams was located shortly after the incident, nearby, and was arrested without further incident.&nbsp; Investigators also have recovered a handgun.

This was not a random incident.&nbsp; Additionally, Adams has previously been arrested and convicted on charges that include aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, attempted robbery, weapons violations, aggravated battery and possession of drugs.&nbsp; Police have not released the name of the victim.

The Latest: 2nd deadly shooting outside Kan. motel this month

CONCORDIA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas Bureau of Investigation agents are serving several search warrants as part of an investigation into the Cloud County Sheriff's Office.

KBI spokeswoman Melissa Underwood said warrants were being served Tuesday at homes in Concordia and the Cloud County Law Enforcement Center.

The investigation began in June. Underwood said the investigation involves allegations of criminal misconduct against sheriff's office employees but no other details have been released.

No one has been arrested but Underwood said the serving of search warrants is a “significant development” in the case.

The Cloud County Jail is closed to visitors as a result of the investigation.

Yu Jun Fang, 54, was charged with promoting the sale of sexual relations, maintaining an establishment and promoting the sale of sexual relations. The Hutchinson Police Department’s Repeat Offender Unit and Detective Division served a search warrant in September at The Spring Spa, 1509 N. Lorraine Street after they received numerous reports of sexual acts being offered as part of the service. An undercover operation was conducted and a detective was offered a sexual act, which he declined. The offer confirmed previous reports. During a search of the building, officers located numerous items consistent with prostitution. She is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on Jan. 6.

Woman accused of Kan. massage parlor prostitution will stand trial

BARTON COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas woman on numerous charges after a drug bust. Just after 3:30p.m. December 6, sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at a home in&nbsp;5400 block of 24th Street in Great Bend, according to Sheriff Brian Bellendir. Deputies contacted the occupant of the house, entered without incident and discovered a substantial quantity of methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia. Deputies arrested Roberta G. Patterson, 67, of Great Bend and she is being held on a $300,000 bond on requested charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and aggravated endangerment of a child. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation assisted with the arrest.

67-year-old Kan. woman jailed after drug bust

On Saturday, a 22-year-old woman reported an unwanted sexual encounter occurred at a residence in Salina, according Police Captain Gary Hanus. The suspect identified as 24-year-old Herbey Hernandez-Rodriguez would not cooperate with investigators. Police obtained a search warrant, collected evidence and arrested Hernandez-Rodriguez. He remain jailed on requested charges that include rape and aggravated criminal sodomy, according to Hanus.

Police: Kansas man in custody for alleged rape

Emanuel E. Goines, Jr., 30, Wichita, was convicted on one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. During, trial prosecutors presented evidence that the investigation began June 22, 2019, following the fatal shooting of Justin Green. Officers learned Goines was present at the homicide, along with Quantezz Butler, another known gang member. On June 25, 2019, Wichita police were looking for Butler to question him when they saw live video clips on social media showing four men in a Trailblazer who were attending the funeral of Freddy Trezvant, another known gang member. Officers tried to stop the Trailblazer, which pulled away. During a pursuit, Goines was seen jumping out of the car and running behind a house at 1528 N. Belmont. He appeared to be carrying a gun. Police lost sight of Goines until they saw him walking hurriedly near 14th and Broadview, where they arrested him. They recovered a handgun from the backyard of 1528 N. Belmont. Sentencing is set for Feb. 24, 2020. Goines could face up to 10 years in federal prison. McAllister commended the Wichita Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Assistant U.S. Attorney Mona Furst and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Katie Andrusak for their work on the case.

Police used social media to catch Kansas gang suspect

(AP) — A Kansas City area man has been sentenced to life in prison plus 107 years for killing his girlfriend and is awaiting trial on charges that he strangled a fellow inmate. Marcus Simms, 36, of Lee's Summit, was sentenced Thursday for first-degree murder, armed criminal action and tampering with a vehicle in the 2014 death of 31-year-old Michele Boldridge. Police found her body while responding to reports that a bloody, naked man was running around a northern Kansas City apartment complex. Police say Boldridge died from a snapped neck and had multiple stab wounds, along with a missing eye. Court records say the naked man, later identified by police as Simms, drove to a school bus parking lot, where a driver told him to go away. But Simms yelled: “You don’t understand. Someone just killed my girlfriend!” Simms was arrested after driving a stolen minivan off a road, according to prosecutors. In a car parked in the area, police found Simms’ DNA as well as a human eyeball. Simms is scheduled to be tried in June in the 2017 strangulation death of 26-year-old Brian Parisi, who was killed while jailed in Clay County on a drug charge.

KANSAS CITY (AP) — Police in Kansas City no longer will provide suspects with a written copy of their rights and instead will give them a verbal Miranda warning as part of changes aimed at tackling violent crime. Two Los Angeles murder investigation experts recommended the change, arguing that written warnings could deter suspects from talking to police, public radio station KCUR-FM reported.The experts noted that keeping suspects talking is key because "confessions may occur, but admissions, lies or false alibis, can also be important." At least 134 people have been murdered in Kansas City so far this year, up from about 121 at this time last year, according to police reports. Homicides are also up in St. Louis and Springfield, and the killings of close to two dozen children in St. Louis put intense pressure on officials to act.But it's unclear how much of an impact the change to Miranda warnings will have. "It hasn't made a significant change, but we're hoping to see more of that over time," Kansas City police Deputy Chief Roger Lewis, who commands criminal investigations, told KCUR.City District Public Defender Ruth Petsch warned that “it puts you at risk of eroding your right to remain silent." She said a written waiver, in contrast, clearly shows that the Miranda warning was given. National Association of Police Organizations Executive Director Bill Johnson told The Associated Press that police often read Miranda warnings to suspects while in the field and also provide written copies during more formal interviews. Johnson, a former police officer and prosecutor, said verbal warnings ensure that suspects who struggle reading are still properly informed of their rights. But either way, Johnson said most people are already aware of their right to remain silent because of the phrase's popularity in crime shows and movies. He added that suspects often don’t take time to more deeply reflect on their rights after being arrested or while being interviewed by police, regardless of how they’re informed. The consultant's report also called for Kansas City police to increase staffing. The agency in response plans to end its mounted division and shift eight officers to homicide starting in January.

The victim posted a RING video of the theft onto the RING.com Neighbors Portal, which provided access for officers to view the video. Chaplin and two other individual suspects are seen in the video.&nbsp;On Tuesday, officers were following up on the case and located Chaplin wearing the same clothes and riding the same bicycle as seen in the video of the theft.&nbsp;Officers contacted Chaplin and she was arrested without incident. On Friday, officers located 32-year-old Krista Dreiling at a home in the 5000 block of East Harry.&nbsp;&nbsp;Through their investigation, Dreiling was arrested and booked into jail, and officers recovered the missing laser tag for kids set and returned it to the owner.&nbsp;The case will be presented to the City of Wichita Prosecutor's Office, according to Davidson. Police return toy allegedly taken by Kan. porch pirates

<img src="https://media.eaglewebservices.com/public/2019/12/1575499053785.png"> Kameron Bynum -photo Wilson County KANSAS CITY (AP) — A North Carolina man who claimed self-defense in a deadly Kansas City shooting has pleaded guilty to illegally possessing more than 50 stolen firearms. Twenty-four-year-old Kameron Bynum, of Wilson, North Carolina, also pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to drug trafficking. Prosecutors say he stole 52 handguns valued at more than $19,000 in May 2017 from a Kansas City pawn shop. When he was arrested in North Carolina nearly two weeks later, he was in possession of about 13 grams of marijuana and more than $900. A handgun that had been stolen from the pawn shop was found in his apartment, along with more than 400 Xanax tablets and marijuana. Police say a vehicle used in the burglary also was tied to an August 2016 homicide. Bynum's phone was found at the scene. He told police he was trying to buy Xanax from someone when the person pulled out a gun and attempted to rob him. Prosecutors say another witness backed up Bynum's account that he fired in self-defense.

Man trafficked guns stolen from Kansas City pawn shop

Just after 5 p.m. on Friday, the Wichita Police Violent Crimes Community Response Team officers were working to locate a suspect identified as 31-year-old Chevy Jones regarding the criminal homicide investigation involving a shooting early Tuesday that fatally wounded 31-year-old Robert Junior of Wichita at a residence in the 8500 Block of East Parkmont, according to officer Charley Davidson. <img src="https://media.eaglewebservices.com/public/2019/12/1575773454730.png">(The suspect's car after the crash-photo Wichita police) Police saw Jones getting into a 2002 Grand Marquis in a parking lot at the apartments in the 2600 block of South Topeka. When they approached Jones to arrest him, he attempted to elude them by quickly accelerating in the vehicle and slamming into a WPD Lieutenant’s squad car.&nbsp;Jones then fled the scene on foot and was arrested inside of Walmart at Pawnee and Broadway.&nbsp; He was found to have a handgun.&nbsp;The police lieutenant sustained minor non-life-threating injuries and was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment and released.&nbsp;Jones possibly ingested narcotics during the pursuit and was also taken to an area hospital for medical treatment.&nbsp;Jones is being held on requested charges of first-degree murder, aggravated battery, criminal possession of a firearm, obstruct, and outstanding warrants, according to Davidson. &nbsp;

Police arrest Kansas murder suspect at Walmart

For the second time this month, police arrested Dylan Edward Wayne Upchurch, 18, of Arkansas City after he turned himself in this week, according to a media release. The latest arrest was on suspicion of one felony count each of aggravated interference with parental custody and sexual exploitation of a child. He also was arrested on suspicion of two felony counts of contributing to a child’s misconduct by sheltering or concealing a runaway, as well as one misdemeanor count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. Upchurch was booked into the Cowley County Jail in Winfield in lieu of $75,000 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. On November 4, police arrested Upchurch on suspicion of one misdemeanor count each of contributing to a child’s misconduct, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana after police were dispatched to the 400 block of North Seventh Street for a report of a juvenile runaway. Officers located the 16-year-old girl runaway and her boyfriend, later identified as Upchurch, inside a vehicle at that address. They noted a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Police found rolled marijuana cigarettes, green vegetation and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. The juvenile was taken into police protective custody. Upchurch was arrested and later released. But on Nov. 13, the same 16-year-old Arkansas City girl was reported as a runaway again. Investigators found information linking Upchurch to the most recent runaway report, as well

Kan. man accused of sexual exploitation involving juvenile runaway

On Friday, sheriff's deputies arrested Deputy Shawn McGonnigil in the case. According to a media release from the sheriff's department, the specific allegation is KSA 21-5427:&nbsp;Recklessly engaging in a course of conduct targeted at a specific person which would cause a reasonable person in the circumstances of the targeted person to fear for such person's safety, or the safety of a member of such person's immediate family and the targeted person is actually placed in such fear.&nbsp;In addition to the criminal case, an investigation is also being conducted by the Professional Standards Unit of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.&nbsp;The deputy was placed on Administrative Leave pending the results of the internal investigation. McGonnigil has been employed by the Sheriff’s Office for approximately 6 years, according to Easter. &nbsp;

Just before 10p.m. Thursday police observed a 2010 Honda Fit in the area of 2000 South Bluff View that had been reported stolen, according to officer Charley Davidson.&nbsp;Police attempted a traffic stop but the driver identified as 24-year-old Heaven Westendorff accelerated and fled from the officers. During a short vehicle pursuit, the Honda collided with a Jeep parked in a driveway and an attached garage at a home in the 3100 Block of East Gilbert, according to Davidson. Police arrested Westendorff without further incident for felony evade and elude, reckless driving, theft and numerous traffic violations. The suspect identified as 24-year-old Heaven Westendorf fled, and officers used a police dog to track her. Sheriff DICKINSON COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a September motor vehicle accident and have made an arrest. On Thursday, members of the Dickinson County Sheriff's Department arrested Colby Mohn, 18, of Abilene, following an investigation related to a motor vehicle accident he was involved in on September 17, according to a media release. Deputies booked Mohn into the Dickinson County Jail on requested charges of aggravated battery, driving under the influence of alcohol, and failure to remain at the scene of an accident. He has bonded out and will make an appearance in court later this month.

Kansas teen accused of leaving scene of DUI crash

KANSAS CITY (AP) — About 110 Kansas City inmates housed in a rehabilitation center since this summer will be moved to new facilities because the center will lose its insurance in January. The city has been using Heartland Center for Behavioral Change as a jail since the Jackson County Detention Center stopped taking inmates. Heartland chief executive Kyle Mead told the city in November that the agency’s liability and workers compensation policies will be canceled, effective in January. The cancellation letter indicates Heartland’s insurer canceled the liability policy after it became a jail. The center primarily provides substance abuse treatment and was not designed to be a jail. The city started sending inmates — those arrested, awaiting trial or convicted of municipal charges — to Heartland after its previous arrangement with Jackson County lapsed. Since then, several inmates have escaped from Heartland and at least one died. Fifty inmates will go back to the Jackson County jail. Vernon County will house 70 inmates, Johnson County will take 45 inmates and six to 10 inmates with drug court charges will enter into rehabilitation programs. The average cost for each inmate per day is $76.95, an increase over past arrangements.

At approximately 2 p.m. on Monday, a 31-year-old homeowner reported an unknown female suspect later identified as Tammie Chaplin, 41, Wichita, of taking a package that was delivered to the home in the 3300 block of East Clark, according to officer Charley Davidson. The victim posted a RING video of the theft onto the RING.com Neighbors Portal, which provided access for officers to view the video.&nbsp;On Tuesday, officers were following up on the case and located Chaplin wearing the same clothes and riding the same bicycle as seen in the video of the theft.&nbsp;Officers contacted Chaplin and she was arrested without incident. Tim Myers. Responding deputies noticed a gunshot to the Hernandez body and he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Authorities asked for assistance and were able to locate the white vehicle in the case. On Wednesday, authorities reported 40-year-old Dustyn Joe Brown was in custody in connection with the case. 5th suspect jailed in connection with murder, kidnapping robbery

Just before 5.a.m. Thursday, the Great Bend Police Department received a report of a stolen vehicle in the city, according to Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir. A Great Bend police officer located the vehicle on 10th St. and attempted to stop the Chevrolet Traverse. The vehicle fled from the police department eastbound on 10th St. reaching speeds of approximately 112 MPH. The vehicle fled east from the City of Great Bend where Barton County Sheriff’s deputies became involved in the chase. The stolen vehicle went north on Kansas 156 Highway at speeds in excess of 100 miles an hour, at times shutting off its lights and driving left of center on the roadway. The chase continued into the northeast part of Barton County crossing Kansas 4, at one point entering a field and then coming back onto the roadway. At about 5:30 AM the suspect vehicle reached Northeast 180 Road near NE. 100th Ave. where the driver lost control. As a Sheriff’s patrol car approached the vehicle, the patrol unit was intentionally rammed by the suspect vehicle. Deputies were able to block the vehicle in and take the driver into custody approximately ½ mile west of Hitschmann, Kansas, according to Bellendir. The driver identified as Stephen Lee Contrerez 32, Great Bend, was arrested and transported to the Barton County Jail where he was booked on charges of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, felony flee and elude of a law enforcement officer, driving with no lights when required, driving while suspended and multiple other traffic violations. The suspect was also charged by the Great Bend Police Department with the stolen vehicle case. Contrerez is being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond. The Sheriff’s office was assisted by the Great Bend Police Department, the Claflin Police Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Kan. man jailed after chase at speeds over 100mph

Just before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, police executed a narcotics search warrant at a residence located at 1200 9th Street in Great Bend, according to a media release. Upon arrival, police arrested Tiffany Wedgeworth, age 31, on a warrant for failure to appear through Great Bend Municipal Court. During a thorough search of the residence, police found methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Wedgeworth was arrested and transported to the Barton County Detention Center where she was booked in lieu of bond on the arrest warrant and multiple narcotics violations. She has four previous convictions that include drugs and for battery, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections

Just before 1:30p.m. Tuesday police responded to report of a robbery at a home in the 2500 Block of west Wildwood in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson. The suspects were reported in a silver Chevy Equinox. Police located the vehicle at Pawnee and Broadway and attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop and a short pursuit began.&nbsp;The suspects fled the vehicle in the 2600 Block of South Minnesota. A backpack containing marijuana was thrown from the vehicle. <img src="https://media.eaglewebservices.com/public/2019/12/1575482505885.png">Police located all three suspects and arrested 20-year-old Darius Jackson, 19-year-old Jaylin Young and 23-year-old Devontice Joe all of Wichita.&nbsp;They also recovered a pellet gun near the vehicle.&nbsp; <img src="https://media.eaglewebservices.com/public/2019/12/1575482588577.png">It is believed the robbery occurred over a drug transaction at the residence West Wildwood.&nbsp;The suspects reportedly entered the home, showed a handgun and&nbsp;demanded property and money, according to Davidson.
