Geary County Historical Society will host an open house at St. Joseph’s Historic Church this Saturday, May 7th, from 10:00a.m. to 1:00 p.m. St. Joseph’s is an ongoing renovation project for the Historical Society, most recently including masonry work and added electricity. Anyone interested in the building, or the restoration project is welcome to explore the building, learn more about the church and cemetery and enjoy refreshments at the open house. 

 The building, which was originally built in 1872 by local Irish Catholic settlers, and was rebuilt in 1910, is located at 13497 Lower McDowell Rd, just 1.5 miles south of I-70 off exit 307.

Project urges 4-H kids to build – and program – robots&nbsp;

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Somewhere in the midst of children laughing and small toys constructed of interlocking plastic bricks gobbling up one another, Macy Hynek is smiling.&nbsp;

The youth – between the ages of 6-18 – are playing a game of Hungry, Hungry Robot, a take on a popular board game by a similar name with plastic hippos as the centerpiece. Most in the small room see toys powered by computer circuits, but Hynek sees something else.&nbsp;

“These toys,” said Hynek, a 4-H Youth Development agent with the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.rivervalley.k-state.edu/" target="_blank">River Valley Extension District</a>&nbsp;in northcentral Kansas, “have really opened the kids’ eyes to what the future looks like and what our everyday technology looks like.”&nbsp;

Hynek leads the River Valley District’s robotics program, which encourages youth to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics – commonly called STEM – in their world.&nbsp;

“Research shows that the younger we start our youth in STEM, the better they are throughout their life,” Hynek said. “So if you introduce them at a young age and continue to introduce these concepts throughout their life, they’re not only likely to succeed in the STEM area, but other aspects of their life.”&nbsp;

The youth have programmed the robots to perform any number of movements or actions. Those aged 6-15 have encoded robots named ‘Cue’ or ‘Dash’ manufactured by the Wonder Workshop, a Silicon Valley education and robotics company. Older children, ages 15-18, have built their robots from Lego blocks using a popular kit from that national company.&nbsp;

“We’ve taught youth to code (program) so that they can use their robots in competition,” Hynek said. The recent Hungry, Hungry Robot contest drew 22 competitors from Clay, Cloud, Republic and Washington counties.&nbsp;

The goal, she said, is “to make kids aware of the things they can do in their future and how they can come back and impact local communities in Kansas.”&nbsp;

In surveys, youth report the project has inspired them to pursue engineering-related careers, according to Hynek.&nbsp;

“That’s satisfying to see,” she said. “They may or may not become an engineer; who knows? But just to have their interest in robotics is a win for us. We’ve introduced something new into their lives, and those are skills that they’ll take into anything they do as technology becomes a demanding thing in every profession.”&nbsp;

Retiring USD 475 employees are being recognized

TOPEKA – Lieutenant Governor and Commerce Secretary David Toland announced that grant applications are now being accepted for the Rural Mural and Public Art program. 

The Kansas Department of Commerce will provide matching funds for communities to create new murals and public art projects that will engage community residents and create a place for the community to gather and enjoy.

“Public art is an important component&nbsp;in the health and vibrancy of communities across our state,”&nbsp;said Lieutenant Governor&nbsp;and Commerce Secretary David Toland. “The Rural Mural and Public Art program&nbsp;will create new destinations that tell the story of a community and inspire pride in residents and visitors to Kansas. All of this enhances quality of life and fuels new growth statewide.”

The program is designed for communities with populations under 10,000 to increase community vibrancy and provide space for artistic expression. Matching funds are available to established 501(c)(3) or 501(c)6 organizations based in Kansas, units of local government or federally recognized tribes.

“By investing in public art and murals, a community can highlight their shared identity, history, and culture, while creating beautiful places the entire region can enjoy,”&nbsp;said&nbsp;Office of Rural Prosperity Director, Trisha Purdon.&nbsp;“We are pleased to partner with communities to support locally-led projects that will develop new destination point murals across rural Kansas.”

The maximum grant amount is $10,000, and there is a 1:1 match requirement for each project. The matching funds must consist of at least 50% cash expense provided by the applicant. In-kind, non-monetary donations and volunteer hours may be counted, up to 50% of the required match.

It has been said there is no place like home. Jyarland Daniels told a Celebration of Teaching Banquet audience in Junction City that she believes that is true. "Junction City is truly the only place that I call home."

Daniels holds degrees from the University of Kansas, University of Michigan and Wayne State University in Michigan and is a 1992 graduate of Junction City High School. She said that she currently lives in a suburb of Detroit and spends a lot of time in a couple of other places. "But I'm the first to say that I'm from Kansas and that makes me very proud. "

Daniels is a Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Consultant who supports schools, nonprofits, and organizations to assist their efforts to shape culture, improve communication and develop policies and practices that result in a more inclusive organization. She&nbsp; graduated from Junction City High School in 1992. Daniels stated that she owed all that she has become to educators, and noted that all of her educational accomplishments were possible because of the&nbsp; foundation laid in USD 475.&nbsp;

Daniels recognized many of her former teachers in the school district. She made it clear that the work of education requires everyone and "a school district can only be that which it's community is." She urged reflection on the community that exists and asked "are we creating a community which facilitates the learning, growth and development of each student in USD 475."

Daniels received a standing ovation from the audience.&nbsp;

During the event numerous scholarships were presented to teachers to further their education. Educators who are retiring from the district this year were also honored and also posed for a photo with Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Reginald Eggleston ( far left ).&nbsp;

Junction City is home to Jyarland Daniels

MANHATTAN&nbsp;–&nbsp;&nbsp;A Riley County Police Department Police Officer has been issued a summons to appear in city court for an off-duty battery allegation, according to a media release.

Officer Brandon Gadia, 27, was reported to have hit a 25-year-old male after the isolated altercation involving personal matters between the two in the 1900 block of Lincoln Dr. on March 26, 2022, around 10:45 a.m. 

Gadia was immediately placed on administrative leave following the incident but was placed back on-duty as of April 15 due to determination the altercation posed no risk to his official duties. 

Kansas State University Police Department investigated the report, then gave their findings to City of Manhattan Chief Prosecutor Mellissa Rundus who, in return, issued the summons to Gadia today.

“We hold our employees to a high level of integrity and expect them to treat every member of our community with dignity and respect,” said Interim Director Kurt Moldrup. “I trust Chief Prosecutor Rundus’s commitment to gather all the facts surrounding what happened and her process to make a just decision. I want to ensure our community RCPD will continue to provide quality and professional law enforcement service to all.”

Appropriate internal discipline has been issued to Gadia following a separate internal investigation conducted by RCPD.

Golf Scramble will raise funds for Chamber of Commerce

During April there were many comments heard locally about how cold it was for the month, how late spring was in arriving. While these comments seemed to be commonly heard, the weather data for April shows a different story.

The average daily high for April was 66.3, one half of a degree above normal. The average overnight low was 43.5, 0.9 degree above normal giving us a monthly mean temperature of 54.9 nearly 3/4 of a degree above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 89 on the 12th. The lowest temperature for April was 26 on the 9th. The last low temperature of 32 degrees or colder was the morning low of 31 on the 14th. April 15th is our long time average last frost date so assuming no May frosts, our last frost was as expected. 

There was one temperature record tied during the month and one set. The high of 89 on the 12th tied the record high for that date. The record was first set in 2014. The overnight low of 70 on the 22nd set a new record high low temperature. The previous record was 68 set in 1989. The hottest April was in 1955 when we had a monthly mean temperature of 63.2. The coldest April was in 1983 when we had a very chilly monthly mean temperature of 45.9. Looking at the average temperature for January through August, 2022 was 41.2 degrees, 0.8 degree above average. Every month in 2022 has had average high, low and mean monthly temperatures above the 30 year average for each month.

April typically sees an increase in rainfall as we head into our wettest time of the year, but that didn’t pan out for 2022. A smattering of precipitation events was all that could be managed. Average April rainfall is 3.15 inches. Milford Lake received 1.27 inches and Junction City 0.94 inches. Had it not been for the Friday night, April 29th storms that rolled across the state, we would have had the driest April on record. April 1989 was the driest with only 0.36 inches of rain. The wettest April was in 1944 when we received 12.59 inches of rain. Year to date we continue to lag the long term average. Through the first four months of the year we have received 4.63 inches of precipitation. Long term average is 6.98 inches meaning that we are at 2/3 of normal precipitation. While long term average snowfall for April is 3/4 of an inch, there was no snow recorded in April.

May continues the transition from spring towards summer. Average daily highs on May Day are 70 and hit 80 by the end of the month. Overnight lows increase from 49 on May 1 to 60 on May 31. Over the last 30 years May has been our wettest month of the year with average rainfall of 5.14 inches. Nine years, since 1951, the region has seen a frost in May. The latest frost on record was May 14, in 1953 but hard freezes May 10 - 12 in both 1980 and 1981 likely did far more damage to the state’s wheat crop!&nbsp;&nbsp;

By Chuck OtteGeary County Agriculural Extension AgentDuring April there were many comments heard locally about how cold it was for the month, how late spring was in arriving. While these comments seemed to be commonly heard, the weather data for April shows a different story. The average daily high for April was 66.3, one half of a degree above normal. The average overnight low was 43.5, 0.9 degree above normal giving us a monthly mean temperature of 54.9 nearly 3/4 of a degree above normal. The highest temperature for the month was 89 on the 12th. The lowest temperature for April was 26 on the 9th. The last low temperature of 32 degrees or colder was the morning low of 31 on the 14th. April 15th is our long time average last frost date so assuming no May frosts, our last frost was as expected. There was one temperature record tied during the month and one set. The high of 89 on the 12th tied the record high for that date. The record was first set in 2014. The overnight low of 70 on the 22nd set a new record high low temperature. The previous record was 68 set in 1989. The hottest April was in 1955 when we had a monthly mean temperature of 63.2. The coldest April was in 1983 when we had a very chilly monthly mean temperature of 45.9. Looking at the average temperature for January through August, 2022 was 41.2 degrees, 0.8 degree above average. Every month in 2022 has had average high, low and mean monthly temperatures above the 30 year average for each month. April typically sees an increase in rainfall as we head into our wettest time of the year, but that didn’t pan out for 2022. A smattering of precipitation events was all that could be managed. Average April rainfall is 3.15 inches. Milford Lake received 1.27 inches and Junction City 0.94 inches. Had it not been for the Friday night, April 29th storms that rolled across the state, we would have had the driest April on record. April 1989 was the driest with only 0.36 inches of rain. The wettest April was in 1944 when we received 12.59 inches of rain. Year to date we continue to lag the long term average. Through the first four months of the year we have received 4.63 inches of precipitation. Long term average is 6.98 inches meaning that we are at 2/3 of normal precipitation. While long term average snowfall for April is 3/4 of an inch, there was no snow recorded in April. May continues the transition from spring towards summer. Average daily highs on May Day are 70 and hit 80 by the end of the month. Overnight lows increase from 49 on May 1 to 60 on May 31. Over the last 30 years May has been our wettest month of the year with average rainfall of 5.14 inches. Nine years, since 1951, the region has seen a frost in May. The latest frost on record was May 14, in 1953 but hard freezes May 10 - 12 in both 1980 and 1981 likely did far more damage to the state’s wheat crop!&nbsp;&nbsp;

April 2022 Weather Summary

Geary County did not have any damage reports from tornadoes or hail following the storms that passed through the region Friday night. But Garry Berges, Emergency Manager, noted that it was a little bit of a crazy evening for everybody. "They had two touch downs of tornadoes over in Dickinson County, and seven funnel clouds were sighted during that storm."

Berges informed the Geary County Commission that the county was under three tornado warnings. "The first one came right to the edge of&nbsp; the city limits. That's why we blew the sirens for the city limits because where it was at." The second warning extended farther into Geary County, Junction City, Grandview Plaza and Milford. Another storm tracked through Herington, near White City and traveled along the county line area.

Spotters and law enforcement were out watching during the storms.&nbsp;

Just before 10a.m. Friday, Opportunities Unlimited reported a 14-year-old boy drank alcohol and damaged a bedroom including drywall, a closet, and a dresser. 

The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $750

Jackie Mundt, Pratt County farmer and rancher The saying, “farmers never retire, they farm until they die,” is accurate for my paternal grandfather. Grandpa turned 95 this winter and outside a short Navy deployment at the end of World War II, he has farmed all his life. He is the picture of work ethic and steadfastness: employed full-time at a paper mill while milking cows every day for 40-plus years of his life. In the early 2000s, grandma decided it was time for them to retire and sell milking heard, but grandpa continued as a crop farmer to fill time. Last fall grandpa made the somewhat surprising decision to take a step back from farming due to his declining mobility. He has had less ability for physical work over the last 10 years, spending most of the time making management decisions and then “supervising” my dad’s and uncles’ work. The irony of grandpa passing management to the next generation is that my 60+ year old dad is starting to farm after having retired from a 35-plus-year career at paper mill himself. &nbsp; My family’s situation is a fairly typical farm transition. Our farm population is aging, with the average at 57.5 years old and steadily climbing and the average age of a beginning farmer is 46.5 years old. When farmers never retire, they run the risk of their family and business suffering through turmoil when they die. This potential has made estate and succession planning a common topic for workshops at just about every farm conference in the last decade or two. Thankfully many farmers have heard these messages and taken steps to plan for how their assets will be protected through this transition. Even though my grandpa is still farming, he has had his estate affairs settled for more than a decade. But assets are only part of a farm’s ability to succeed and thrive. Knowledge, judgement and the experience required to run a successful business can be the hardest things to pass to a successor. The real power of succession planning comes in knowing how people and businesses will thrive without you. A driver for Marc and my decision to join his family’s farming operation was legacy. We want to work with his family to grow and safeguard the farm and one day pass it on to future generations. Transitioning to the farm has revealed a pivotal paradigm shift for me about how plan and support succession. Apprenticeship is a common succession approach with observation, assigned tasks and discussions with the current manager. There is value in this approach but it falls short when people spend too long in this phase. Marc doesn’t work for his family, he works with them. His dad has intentionally stepped back from management responsibilities to provide space for Marc to run the business. His dad is an on-site mentor coaching and giving advice. There is no question about will Marc be ready, he has the responsibility now. Marc’s dad isn’t just showing faith and support, he is displaying love for his family and legacy by doing everything in his power to ensure they are prepared and protected for a future without him. It sounds so simple but it feels radical. Powerful emotions are tied to uncertainty of what the future holds for what we have lovingly built with blood, sweat and tears. A powerful succession plan requires caring enough about something to overcome these fears and build so strong that it won’t fail without you. Leaving a legacy requires leaving. Take time now to plan, support and build the things you love for a future beyond you.

RILEY COUNTY—Authorities are working to determine the cause of a fire at a home in rural Riley County.

Just after 9:30p.m. Sunday, fire crews responded to a fire in a home in the 4600 Block of Freeman Road after a neighbor who saw smoke coming from the residence called 911, according to a media release.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. First responders found a family pet dead inside the home.

Following a two-year absence due to COVID, the Geary Community Schools Foundation is bringing back the annual Celebration of Teaching Banquet. It will held Monday evening at the Geary County Convention Center with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.

The keynote speaker will be Jyarland Daniels, a 1992 Junction City High School graduate, who attended school K-12 in Junction City. Today she is a Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion consultant who supports schools, nonprofits and organizations to help them shape their culture, improve communication and develop practices that result in a more inclusive organization.

This year's USD 475 retirees will also be honored at the event.

Authorities have suspended their search for a possible drowning victim at Milford Lake for the day ( Monday ). Gusty winds have created problems in the Clarks Creek area on the northwest side of the reservoir. There were high waves and high surf and the dive team and boats could not be put in the water. There is a chance of inclement weather throughout the day.

Geary County Sheriff's authorities note that the search for a possible drowning victim at Milford Lake was called for the day early Sunday evening.&nbsp; Two days searching have been met with negative results. 

Multiple agencies from across the region joined the Geary Sheriff's Office Marine Unit and the Geary County Sheriff's Office/Junction City Fire Department Dive Team in their search for the missing subject.  We would like to thank Kansas Wildlife and Parks Parks Division, Kansas Wildlife and Parks Law Enforcement Division, Milford State Park Wildlife and Parks Division along with Corps of Engineering Park Rangers for their assistance today. Departments planned to use remaining hours of daylight to evaluate their equipment and prep it to resume the search Monday morning after sunrise.

Authorities resumed their search for a possible drowning victim at Milford Lake about 8 a.m. Sunday, but as of 4:10 p.m. Sunday their efforts were still continuing.

David Gilbert, Captain, Geary County Sheriff Department, said multiple agencies including the Sheriff Department, Milford State Park, Kansas Wildlife and Parks personnel from Wilson Lake and the Corps of Engineers along with six boats have been involved in the search. "We have our dive team that is going out as they find things on side scan that possibly resembles a body." Gilbert explained the dive team has gone down four times and has checked five locations, but so far all of those searches have produced a negative result with no discovery.

The search has focused on the northwest side of Milford Lake over a 600-yard stretch in the Curtis Creek area.

Deputies responded to the Eagle Ridge Campground in Milford State Park Saturday afternoon regarding a woman who had drifted into the shoreline in a homemade water vessel. The woman told authorities she and a man were walking along the shoreline near Curtis Creek when they located the vessel which was made from 55 gallon drums and 2 x 4 lumber.&nbsp;The couple entered the water in the vessel when they were caught by the wind and were being pulled toward the main body of the lake. The man jumped into the water to swim to shore to call for help. He was last seen in the water as the woman drifted away in the vessel.

Gilbert confirmed the woman was taken to a hospital. She was retained for observation overnight and released on Sunday morning.

Approximately $95,000 was raised to support the Saint Xavier school during an auction Saturday night at the Bradley Gym. Shawn Augustine, School Principal, estimated the turnout at a little over 200 people for the event which also included dinner. He cited raffles, people buying a meal and their seat, a silent auction along with a live auction as well as an itemless item that brought in revenue which will be used to help fund school operations.&nbsp;

The itemless item was an opportunity for patrons to bid on locker room renovations, explained Augustine. "Typically we ask what you want to give." The bidding started at $2,500 and then gradually went down from there. "So people could give, and give whatever they want to give to this. It's something that's ongoing. " To renovate one locker room costs about $35,000.&nbsp;

Classroom baskets, a cooler containing a bluetooth, a $500 bill a Miller's Light sign, and a pinball machine were other items that were put up for auction.&nbsp;

Currently, Pre-K through 12th grade, there are 136 students in the school.

Saint Xavier Auction raises funds to support the school

KANSAS CITY— A Kansas City man has been charged in connection to&nbsp; a shooting&nbsp;that killed 49-year-old Shariff Tilghman.

Isaiah L. Thomas, 21, is charged with second degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon, according Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

The shooting occurred&nbsp; just before 9:30 p.m. Feb. 2, in the 7200 block of east 17th Street.

When Kansas City Police Department officers arrived on scene, they found a black vehicle with a man inside behind the driver's wheel. The vehicle was reported stolen from Junction City, Kansas.

According to court records, video surveillance showed a man exiting the vehicle and standing where shell casings were later found, then running from the scene.&nbsp; A check of firearms found at the residence showed the gun was purchased by an associate of the defendant.

A face mask found on the passenger's side of the car was checked, and the analysis found "strong support" that Thomas had contributed DNA to the mask.

Police: Victim found dead in car stolen in Junction City

POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY—The National Weather Service preliminary damage survey of Friday night's tornado in Wamego, Belvue area indicates an EF-1 tornado with wind speeds at 93 miles per hour.

The tornado started at 8:03 p.m., traveled 11.48 miles and ended a ended at 8:18p.m.&nbsp; The tornado's maximum width was 100 yards. There were no injuries or death from the tornado, according to the National Weather Service.

The&nbsp; survey of damage in the Herington area shows the tornado that started at 8:06p.m. rated as an EF-1 with winds of 97 miles per hour. It was on the ground for 17 miles and ended at 8:28p.m. The storm had a maximum width of 75 yards. There were no injuries or deaths from this storm.

The National Weather Service preliminary damage survey of Friday night's storm confirmed four tornadoes in Marion County. Two of them had an EF-1 rating.

At 7:57p.m. a Tornado was reported four miles north of Tampa. It had maximum wind gusts of&nbsp; 96 miles per hour (EF-1), a maximum width of 30 yards and traveled .9 miles.&nbsp;

At 8:03p.m. another a tornado hit three miles southeast of Durham. It had maximum wind gusts of 95 miles per hour (EF-1) a maximum width of 50 yards and traveled .9 miles. There were no injuries or deaths from these storms.

 </figure>The National Weather Service preliminary damage survey of Friday night's storm confirmed four tornadoes in Marion County. Two of them had an EF-1 rating.At 7:57p.m. a Tornado was reported four miles north of Tampa. It had maximum wind gusts of&nbsp; 96 miles per hour (EF-1), a maximum width of 30 yards and traveled .9 miles.&nbsp;At 8:03p.m. another a tornado hit three miles southeast of Durham. It had maximum wind gusts of 95 miles per hour (EF-1) a maximum width of 50 yards and traveled .9 miles. There were no injuries or deaths from these storms.

There was a 1st Infantry Division and Irwin Army Community Hospital hosted Victory Mental Health&nbsp;Summit&nbsp;at the&nbsp;Riley&nbsp;Conference Center on Thursday. According to the Army the event was held to promote discussion about the availability of mental health resources and what&nbsp;Fort&nbsp;Riley&nbsp;leaders are doing to address concerns.&nbsp;

As part of Commanding General of the 1st Inf. Div. Maj. Gen. D.A. Sims II’s Operation Victory Wellness campaign, the&nbsp;summit&nbsp;was held with approximately 100 community members from across Kansas to include Big Red One and&nbsp;Fort&nbsp;Riley&nbsp;Soldiers.

Sims informed attendees about ongoing efforts to promote wellness and resiliency among Soldiers and family members while highlighting the need to reduce waiting times for those who require mental healthcare both on and off the installation.&nbsp;

Soldiers and family members have access to a number of mental health and substance abuse programs to include confidential, non-medical counseling provided by Military and Family Life Counseling Program.

Those in attendance will be able to meet the winners of the 2022 bookmark contest, meet Pete the Cat and take the new Pete at the Beach Story Walk. You can check out your first reads, get a library card and there will be crafts and games.&nbsp;

Volunteers ranging from Fort Riley soldiers and local community members to representatives from the Police Department help spruce up Junction City Friday and Saturday. There were multiple spring cleaning events.

Beginning on Friday, members of First of the 1st - 6th Cavalry, 1st Infantry Division worked with Phyllis Fitzgerald, Executive Director of the Society of the 1st Infantry Division to pick up trash along Grant Avenue.

Then on Saturday, approximately 120 volunteers participated in a Junction City Main Street downtown spring cleanup, explained Fitzgerald, "helping clean up the Main Street downtown and some of the surrounding areas. " She estimated there more than 50 Soldiers from Fox Trot Company, 1-1 Aviation plus their leadership and the Combat Aviation Brigade commander. Col. Jason Arriaga said the cleanup is part of their outreach "with Operation Victory Wellness that many people have heard about on Post but every Foundation Friday or close to it we try to have an opportunity to engage with our local community."

Command Sgt. Major Scott McGee of the Attack Battalion, 1st Aviation Brigade noted that he participated in the cleanup for a one mile stretch on North Washington Street all the way north to Grant Ave.&nbsp;

There was also a Junction City sponsored spring cleanup on Saturday with volunteers working in different segments of town. Police Chief John Lamb worked in the K-18 Highway - Spring Valley Road area. He cited examples of items picked up. "Water bottles, cardboard, paper plates." Lamb added that they found a lot of disposable face masks that were worn during the COVID pandemic.

Junction City Manager Allen Dinkel participated in the effort. He found a lot of items. "I found half of a bed frame, I found part of a car, rubber part." Dinkel feels an event like this always helps the community.

Storm activity began in southern Dickinson County and worked north and eastward Friday evening. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

In Geary County the Emergency Manager, Garry Berges estimated that there were 60-70 mph winds and hail ranging from pea-size to quarter-size. There was heavy rain but by late evening no major damage had been reported.

Tornado sirens did sound in Junction City after the west central part of Geary County and portions of Dickinson County were placed in tornado warnings. A check with the Riley County police dispatch revealed that strong winds and rain were experienced there.

The National Weather Service issued&nbsp; a tornado warning stating that 6:12 p.m. a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located four miles southwest of Carlton in Dickinson County, and at 6:10 p.m. weather spotters reported a funnel cloud north of Durham. Later at 6:31 spotters reported a tornado north of Carlton and at&nbsp; 6:42 p.m. a confirmed tornado was located five miles southwest of Enterprise, moving northeast.&nbsp;

There were other severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings for southern Dickinson, parts of Morris, Riley, Pottawatomie and Wabaunsee counties as the evening progressed.
