RILEY COUNTY —A Kanas woman man was injured in an accident just before 7:30a.m. Sunday in Riley County.

A 2001 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Michaela Denlinger, 26, of Topeka, rolled in the 9600 Block of Fancy Creek Road in Randolph, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

Lifestar transported Denlinger to Stormont Vail in Topeka for treatment of her injuries. The RCPD released no additional details.

The holiday that is meant for us to reflect and decide what it is for which we are thankful. We have a lot to be thankful for in this great nation, not the least of which is our farms and ranches. This is so appropriate because Thanksgiving is associated with food. My guess is most of us will have the traditional feast of turkey and all the fixings, right down to the pumpkin pie. No matter what you include for your Thanksgiving dinner, without a doubt it will be one of biggest feasts of the year. All of this great food is brought to you by a fellow farmer or rancher, even the yams. While I do not know any yam farmers and, to be honest, I am not even sure what a yam is. I do know the people who grow them are good. Those of us involved in agriculture are part of the fabric that is the foundation of this great nation. At the core of every great society is a robust, self-sufficient food supply. We are so blessed in the United States to have the safe, abundant, wholesome food supply within easy reach.. Most of us have never really faced empty shelves. Sure, there are times like right before a predicted snowstorm the shelves may be a little low. But very few of us have ever faced a real shortage of food. We got a little glimpse of this during the pandemic, but any deficits were short lived. We are also fortunate to spend a relatively small portion of our earnings on food. We are used to having the shelves full and the prices at a reasonable level and that is all because of the hard work we put in as farmers and ranchers. The price of this year’s Thanksgiving dinner has undoubtedly gone up because of inflation. But it is still a feast that comes at an amazing bargain, and one we do not take enough credit for. This coming week is when we, as farmers and ranchers, should be sticking our chests out with pride and letting the world know about the remarkable things we do to put food on tables around the world.. This is true every day but especially the day when we are to give thanks, and our way of giving thanks is centered around a great meal. See what I mean about food being at the center of our society? We have a lot to be thankful for in this great nation, but at the top of that list is our food supply. It is OK to take pride in the fact that all of us do our part to provide the safe, abundant, wholesome food we all need. Giving Thanks to Farmers and Ranchers

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–&nbsp;Skylar Thompson fired a 35-yard completion down the seam to tight end Sammy Wheeler on fourth down that led to a crucial score, and the Wildcats took the air out of a West Virginia comeback by holding on for a 34-17 victory Saturday at Bill Snyder Family Stadium, snapping a five-game skid to the Mountaineers.

“Monkey off the back for sure,” said Thompson, who completed 14 of 19 passes for 138 yards and 1 touchdown. “It was something fresh on my mind and the senior class’s mind. We had a bad taste in our mouth about West Virginia. We’d never been able to get over the hump. This is bigtime for us.”

K-State’s first win over West Virginia since 2015 came after the Mountaineers topped the Wildcats 37-10 last season in Morgantown, West Virginia, which was the second-most lopsided win by the Mountaineers in the series.

That defeat stayed with K-State sixth-year senior center Noah Johnson, who called the victory a part of the team’s “revenge tour.”

“We definitely wanted this one bad,” Johnson said. “They’re a great challenge for us. The revenge tour, man, it’s always great to put on shows in front of your home crowd, and the crowd was awesome today. It’s a blast to play in front of them. The tour keeps going. We’ll enjoy it today and get back on the road tomorrow.”

K-State, 7-3 overall and 4-3 in the Big 12, next meets No. 13 Baylor, 8-2 and 6-2, which beat No. 8 Oklahoma 27-14 on Saturday. It will be Senior Day in Manhattan.

The money assists qualified organizations with their activities that directly increase transient guest tax and sales tax throughout the year, and which help make Junction City and Geary County a tourism destination.

Applications must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. on Dec. 3 to the Geary County CVB Office at 222 West 6th Street. Applications can be submitted online, or mailed to P.O. Box 1846, Junction City, KS 66441. Applications will be reviewed individually by the CVB Grant Committee before being presented to the Geary County Board of Commissioners to be considered for approval. Project announcement of support will occur in December for awards in 2022.

2022 Community Support Grant applications are available

Veterans are receiving Quilts of Valor honoring them for their service in the military. Seven of them were presented Friday night and one more will be in the near future. They are presented by the Central Flint Hills Area Quilt of Valor committee.

Those receiving the quilts include David M. Blair Sr., Ezster Blair, John "Jack' McKee Jr., Victor Reichmuth, Larry Lee Minick, Jose Castillo, Joe Teeter and Burton Blair.&nbsp;

The goal of the Quilt of Valor Foundation is to honor and cover service members who have been touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.

Donna Martinson, Coordinator of the Central Flint Hills Area Quilt of Valor Project, said the quilts are a good reminder that "people care and appreciate the service that our military members, active duty and veterans provide to our country."

The Central Flint Hills Quilt of Valor project was started to honor veterans dating as far&nbsp; back to Vietnam, Korean and World War II conflicts. Since April of 2015 the number of quilts awarded through the project total 410.

USD 475 announces Shining Star Award recipients

Junction City Mayor Jeff Underhill and Geary County Commission Chair Trish Giordano issued a joint statement on Friday that said they have "great faith in the current efforts of our Economic Development Committee and Director Mickey Fornaro-Dean. "

Underhill noted that there are rumors and speculation about projects that the EDC is working on. "Most of them are just inaccurate and completely untrue. There are people saying that we're going to bring in businesses that are going to add a smell to the community or reduce property values and that sort of thing, and the fact of the matter is that Trish and I both live in that neighborhood on the west side of town.&nbsp; So we don't want obscene smells in our areas either and we don't want to do anything that would be a detriment to the city."

Underhill assured the community that they are working to make the best choices. They also do not want business or industry that doesn't fit in the area or the workforce.

The mayor said that there a lot of great things happening in the city and county. For example Camso / Michelin has exceeded employment goals and are expanding their building and operations. Fairview Junction is purchasing and moving into an existing building on Perry Street and there is a national buzz about the community with the Junction for Military and Civilian Innovation.

Underhill said they seeking more growth and have applied for various funding options at the state and national level to get money for a new interchange at Taylor Road and I-70. The interchange is important to future growth, and that opens up another access to and from the west a well as potential sites for industrial and retail development.

City and County leaders issue reassurances

MANHATTAN —Kansas State University employees now have until January 4, 2022 to comply with the federal government’s&nbsp;vaccine&nbsp;requirement, according to a statement from the university.

The University is extending its deadline for employees to become fully vaccinated against COVID-19 following&nbsp;<a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2021/11/04/fact-sheet-biden-administration-announces-details-of-two-major-vaccination-policies/">updated&nbsp;recommendations</a>&nbsp;put forth&nbsp;by the Biden administration November 4.&nbsp;

<a href="https://www.k-state.edu/today/info/announcement/?id=78099">Previously, KSU employees had until December 8&nbsp;</a>to comply. With the new deadline, K-State administrators say employees who don’t provide&nbsp;documentation on time will see their&nbsp;employment&nbsp;end on January 9, 2022.&nbsp;

The vaccine requirement&nbsp;applies to&nbsp;all&nbsp;employees&nbsp;and entities&nbsp;of the university, including K-State Athletics&nbsp;and&nbsp;the Student Union.&nbsp;The KSU Foundation and Alumni Association are controlled separately and do not fall under the mandate’s requirements.&nbsp;

8th Judicial District Nominating Commission to meet November 17

MANHATTAN —Authorities evacuated a grocery store in Manhattan Friday due to a fire.

Just before 9:30 a.m., fire crews were w dispatched to the Dillions grocery store, 130 Sarber Lane in Manhattan, for a report of a possible structure fire, according to&nbsp;Ryan Almes, Deputy Chief.

Upon arrival, crews found light smoke throughout the building. Crews evacuated the building and found a small fire located in the HVAC ductwork that was extinguished within 20 minutes.&nbsp;

&nbsp;No injuries were reported and the store was still closed at the time the fire department cleared the scene. Loss is estimated at $5000 to the structure with unknown loss to contents. The fire cause was accidental due to welding being performed on ductwork that ignited the lining of the duct, according to Almes.

 </figure>MANHATTAN —Authorities evacuated a grocery store in Manhattan Friday due to a fire.Just before 9:30 a.m., fire crews were w dispatched to the Dillions grocery store, 130 Sarber Lane in Manhattan, for a report of a possible structure fire, according to&nbsp;Ryan Almes, Deputy Chief.Upon arrival, crews found light smoke throughout the building. Crews evacuated the building and found a small fire located in the HVAC ductwork that was extinguished within 20 minutes.&nbsp;<figure>

GEARY COUNTY—Law enforcement are asking the public for help to locate a suspect identified as 23-year-old James Tyshawn Carwell III who fled a traffic stop on Thursday, according to Junction City Police.

Carwell has multiple active arrest warrants. Carwell was last seen wearing a yellow hoodie and blue basketball shorts. He is 6-foot tall, weighs 195 pounds and has blue eyes and brown hair.

Anyone with information about his location please contact the Junction City Police Department at 785 762 5912 or crime stoppers at 785 762 8477. You can also message the Police Department Facebook page with any information you may have. Information leading to James'  arrest will be eligible for a cash reward from Crime Stoppers.

He estimated that total was up about 900 fans from the pre-COVID 2019 season. "I think we got a little bit of a slow start with COVID. Pandemic issues are still out there. I feel good about where we're going to be next year, hopefully we'll hit that 6,000 mark."

GEARY COUNTY —A Junction City man was injured in an accident just after 4p.m. Thursday in Geary County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2010 Lexus RX driven by Bradley R. Johnson, 63, Junction City, was westbound on Interstate 70 six miles east of Junction City.

The Lexus rear-ended a 2019 Ford F150 driven by Mark C. Shaw, 63, Tom Bean, Texas. After impact the Ford rear-ended a 2022 Peterbilt semi driven by Wesley G. Muse, 47, Richardson, Texas.

EMS transported&nbsp;Johnson to the Geary Community Hospital. Shaw and Muse were not injured. Johnson was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.

Santa is coming to the library. Come to the Dorothy Bramlage Public Library’s Breakfast with Santa on Saturday December 4th from 10 am until noon. Dr. Jerome Kinzey told the Veterans Day audience in Junction City he stood before them in freedom in a world of democracy.

Kinzey said that veterans and their families served to protect life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Right now there are about 19-million U.S. veterans, which comprise less than ten percent of the nation's population. Kinzey said we need to constantly be reminded of the gift of freedom, and "those who gave all to ensure future generations know life in a free sociey."

Kinzey served as the keynote speaker for the Veterans Day ceremony at the C. L. Hoover Opera House.&nbsp;

Master of Ceremonies Dave Drummond detailed the history of Veterans day, noting that on Nov. 11, 1921 the remains of a Soldier were delivered to Arlington National Cemetery and laid to rest in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. In 1938 Armistice Day was named an official holiday and in 1954 a bill was approved in Congress naming it Veterans Day.

The JC Breakfast Optimist Club will have a fundraiser on Monday, November 15, from 11:00 AM until close of business. Ten percent of purchases made at JC BBQ &amp;Grill will be donated to the Club. Optimists will host a fundraiser

Members of the Raider Team in the JROTC program at Junction City High School competed in the national Raider Championships in Molena, Georgia and brought home first place in the All-Service division.&nbsp;

Ted Ahlers, Sgt. 1st Class, confirmed the final results made the JCHS team the national champions. "I think we were all pretty shocked when they announced the results, but very happy with the results."

Grant Shrader, Team Captain, said there were four main events at the national championship including a five-kilometer team run, a physical team test, a gauntlet involving a one mile run through the woods with four 35-pound rucksacks and two weighted ammo crates, and a one rope bridge navigating the cadets over a river. There was also a separate ultimate raider competition.

Shrader was shocked upon learning the team had won the national championship. "The way my teammates described it my jaw pretty much dropped to the floor. Turned around and looked at them in formation, couldn't believe it to be honest."

Shrader said the team has also been receiving a lot of support from the staff and students at the high school. The Raider Team included 14 participants at the national championships.

Ahlers said to become involved all students need to do is be a member of Junior ROTC and attend practices. The fall season is over but there will be a spring season with practice beginning in mid to late February.

Geary County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a three-vehicle accident on the K-18 bypass Wednesday. Yaneika Robinson, Fort Riley was northbound in a 2022 Hyundai Kona and came to an abrupt stop at the on ramp to I-70. Robin Renee Green was traveling behind Robinson in a Ford Eco and attempted to stop but struck the Hyundai Kona. Maria Childs, Manhattan was traveling behind Renee-Green in a Ford Fusion and struck the rear of the Ford Eco.

Robinson and two other occupants of her vehicle were transported to Geary Community Hospital. All three vehicles were towed from the scene by Buds Wrecker Service.

Three car accident occurs on K-18

Approximately 150 soldiers from the Combat Aviation Brigade are returning to Fort Riley on Friday at approximately 1:15 p.m. The redeployment ceremony for the members of the 2md General Support Aviation Battalion of the 1st Aviation Regiment will be held in a hangar at Marshall Drive.

The troops have been deployed to Europe for nine months. This will be the first group of 1st CAB Soldiers returning from Europe with the remaining Soldiers scheduled to redeploy over the next few weeks.
