Patrick Flynn, 66 of Abilene passed away February 16, 2022 at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

 He was born March 19, 1956 in Wichita, the son of Maurice Elvin Flynn and Willa May Haynes. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1974. After high school he worked for a service station in Abilene as a mechanic and also worked for Paul Llamas Construction. He later went on and worked for Union Pacific Railroad. He owned and operated Conland Concrete from 1990-2009. After retiring from his concrete business he stayed busy working for DD Ranch.

 Pat loved wrestling and coached many kids in the AKWC and coached various other sports as well. He married Sherri Kessler. They later divorced. He later married Cheri Everett.

 Patrick is survived by his sons, Josh, Andrew, Caleb and Mason Flynn Grandchildren, Haven, Brinlee, Kaylin and Kash and a grandson on the way, Jaymeson and ex-wife Cheri Everett Flynn. He was preceded in death by his brother, Brian Flynn and mother, Willa May.

 Pat’s wishes were to be cremated. Memorial Services will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 25, 2022 at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene. Inurnment will follow at the Abilene City Cemetery. James (Jim) Edwin Schoenbeck, 78 years old of Abilene, KS passed away at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, MO on February 16, 2022 due to COVID-19 complications.

After settling in Abilene, KS in 1972, Jim worked for Kansas Power &amp; Light and then Duckwall-ALCO, retiring in 2008 after 33 years of service. Jim is survived by his wife, Karen, of 56 years, daughter Melanie Molzahn (Andrew) of Phoenix, AZ and sons Jeffrey (Jennifer) of Nashville, TN and Matthew (Erika) of Wamego, KS. He is survived by five grandchildren, Emma, Bennett and Skylar Schoenbeck of Wamego and Madeline and Allyson Molzahn of Phoenix. He is also survived by his brother Thomas Schoenbeck (Mary) of Scottsdale, AZ and sister Elouise Jahnke (Clark) of Shawnee, KS.

Preceding him in death were his parents Edwin and Louise (Mass) Schoenbeck and his parents-in-law John and Evelyn (Hough) Repp. Jim had a strong Christian faith throughout his life that he often shared with others, which gave him and his family strength and comfort in his final days. He was involved in many church and community activities, for which he was passionate. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. on February 24, 2022 at Faith Lutheran Church in Abilene, KS, with family present. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Joseph Barlau officiating. James (Jim) Edwin Schoenbeck

Timothy Lee Siefkes, loving husband, dad, and “Papa,” died on 
February 13, 2022. Tim, son of Kenneth Lee and Joyce (Metz) Siefkes, was
 born on November 19, 1955, in Junction City, Kansas. He lived an 
adventurous childhood with his brother and sisters and loved spending 
time with his extended family in Hudson, where his parents were raised. 
Tim was a proud Eagle Scout, and some of his favorite times growing up 
were with his Boy Scout troop, led by his dad, exploring remote areas of
 Canada and the mountains of Montana and Colorado. Colorado always held a
 particularly special place in Tim’s heart, where he hiked several 
14ers, and vacationed most summers throughout his life with family and 
friends.

Tim’s dad also influenced his love of science, from geology to 
astronomy. Often joking that he was like Cliff Clayburn from “Cheers,” 
Tim proclaimed to have a “vast knowledge of useless information,” and 
was always reading and learning. When Tim was in 8th grade, 
he moved with his family a few houses down the street from Andrea Bowen,
 and told himself he would marry her someday! They were friends at 
Buhler High School, where Tim was the kicker on the football team, and 
Andrea cheered the team on as president of the Pep Club. Tim’s love of 
photography flourished as he filmed the football teams at HCC and later 
at Ft. Hays State University, where he graduated with a degree in Art 
and Photography. Despite attending different colleges, Tim and Andrea 
reconnected and began dating their senior year, and were married in the 
summer of 1980!

Tim spent most of his career at General Laboratories, where he used 
his drafting skills and certifications as a Fire &amp; Explosion 
Investigator and Private Investigator, in a forensic engineering 
capacity. In 2008, Tim joined his father-in-law and brother-in-law’s 
company, Premiere Oil &amp; Exploration Inc., as Oil Production Manager.
 Tim also owned and operated Sunflower Video Productions for 25 years, 
videotaping over 600 weddings and many events around the community.

Tim was an involved parent, never missing an athletic event, music 
performance, or dance recital.&nbsp; Tim’s enthusiasm for attending his 
daughters’ tennis meets waned a bit when he was told that spectators 
have to be quiet during the matches. He was proud to be President of the
 Buhler High Booster Club during Courtney and Amy’s high school years.&nbsp; 
When his daughters took off to K-State for college, Tim became an avid 
football fan and season ticket holder.&nbsp; He loved fixing food for the 
tailgates, especially his famous smoked brisket, chili, and grilled 
hamburgers.

Tim cherished his friends, both from childhood and those he made as 
an adult. In his younger days Tim enjoyed playing softball, where he was
 known to hit homeruns over the Fun Valley fence. Later in life he took 
up golfing, smoking cigars by the campfire, talking politics, and eating
 barbeque with his friends, who were always up to some kind of 
Seinfeld-influenced shenanigans.&nbsp; Tim appreciated the friendships he 
made at church, including the Life Group he and Andrea were a part of.

Tim is survived by: his loving wife, Andrea; daughter, Courtney 
Siefkes, Austin, TX, daughter, Amy Messer (Travis), Gardner; 
grandchildren, Hadley and Bennett Messer, Gardner; stepmother, Carol 
Siefkes, Louisburg; siblings, Kelly Siefkes (Diane), Hutchinson, Tammy 
Metzler (Mike), Goddard, and Julie Siefkes, Wichita; and numerous 
nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Tim was preceded in death by: his parents, Ken and Joyce Siefkes, 
sister, Kerry Stevens; and parents-in-law, Ralph and Shirley Bowen.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, February 
25, 2022, at First Church of the Nazarene, 4290 N. Monroe, Hutchinson. 
For those wishing to view online, the service will be livestreamed on

Thelma Edna Hicks, age 92, of Abilene, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at the Village Manor Nursing Home. She was born March 8, 1929 in Montcalm, West Virginia the daughter of Beverly and Virgie (Johnson) Sheets. She attended the local schools and was united in marriage to Richard Hicks on April 5, 1945 in Folkston, Georgia. Edna worked for the Alco Warehouse for several years before retiring. She enjoyed going to garage sales, and the Dollar Store, but loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Cindy Jones and her husband Roy of Hutchinson, five grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Richard on February 27, 1979 and her sons Gary Hicks and Robert Hicks. Private family services are planned. Her final resting place will be in the Abilene Cemetery. Joe C. Mayfield, 83, of Manhattan, KS, passed away Monday, February 14th, at the Via Christi Village in Manhattan. Joe was a retired US Army Major and substitute schoolteacher. Joe Charles Mayfield was born in Del Rio, TX on April 30, 1938, the son of the late Rachel Rosecrans Lane and Joe Telford Mayfield. He was the husband of Rebecca Fern (Sadler) Mayfield, and they were married in Hopkinsville, KY on March 18, 1960, She survives in Manhattan, KS. He joined the Army Reserves in High School when he went to Basic Training and Advanced Training as a Combat Engineer. He attended West Point and Texas A&amp;M in 1958-1959. After he left Texas A&amp;M, he enlisted in the active Army as an infantryman, and went to Airborne school, and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, followed by the 173d Airborne Brigade in Okinawa, Japan. He was an enlisted man for ten years and went to Ft. Sill, Oklahoma for Officer Candidate School (OCS), where he was commissioned as an Artillery officer. He went to the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii and deployed with them to Vietnam in 1966. His next assignment was as a Howitzer Battery Commander, 6th Cavalry Regiment, Ft Meade, MD, where he deployed upon the streets of Washington, DC during the 1968 Riots. He went back to Vietnam as an Artillery Battery Commander for the 173d Airborne Brigade in Vietnam. After Vietnam, he was assigned to V Corps Artillery Headquarter (HQ) in Darmstadt, Germany. His final assignment was to Fort Riley, where he served as the S-3 for 1st Bn, 7th Field Artillery, and as the Division Artillery S-3. He retired in 1979 as a Major at Fort Riley, KS, after 23 years in the Army. Joe graduated from KSU with a Bachelors's in Social Sciences in 1975 and a Masters’ degree in Education in 1982. He served as a substitute teacher for Jr High and High schools in Manhattan, Junction City, and surrounding school districts for six years. He taught Special Ed, Drama, Girls PE, history, and a variety of other subjects as a substitute, sometimes for most of the academic year. Joe is survived by his wife of their home in Manhattan; two sons Robert L. (Lorrie) Mayfield, of Junction City, KS, Joel D. (Loretta) Mayfield, of Springfield, VA.; Lorrie’s kids and grandkids considered Joe a grandfather, as did other kids who “adopted” him. Joe was preceded in death by his son Scott Mayfield on October 25, 1982; a brother, David Mayfield of Del Rio, TX, and his sister Martha Nancy Mayfield. Joe C. Mayfield

Monique Lenae (Barnes) Angel, 47, of Olathe, Kansas, went to rest with her Lord and Savior February 15, 2022, after a brave battle with an acute infection.

Monique was born May 7, 1974, in Manhattan, KS, the daughter of Garry and Linda Sue (Berroth) Barnes. She was raised in Alma, Kansas and graduated from Wabaunsee High School in 1992. She attended Emporia State University and graduated with a Bachelors in Rehabilitation Sciences.

Monique was a devoted wife and mother who loved working with kids and was a valued para-educator with Olathe Public Schools. She attended Divine Mercy Parish in Gardner, Kansas. She loved reading Nicholas Sparks novels and taking care of her dog Hunter.

On February 14th, 1998, she was united in marriage to Jerry Angel in Paxico. She was mother to Madison Angel and Larry Noah Angel. She is survived by her husband and children; her brother, Tyson Barnes (Yuma, AZ) and niece Allie Barnes; her brothers-in-law, Aaron Angel (Kansas City, KS) and Michael (Jennifer) Angel (Ark City, KS) and nieces Alexis and Shannon Angel; her in-laws, Thomas and Delores Angel (Phoenix, AZ). Monique Lenae (Barnes) Angel, 47, of Olathe, Kansas, went to rest with her Lord and Savior February 15, 2022, after a brave battle with an acute infection.Monique was born May 7, 1974, in Manhattan, KS, the daughter of Garry and Linda Sue (Berroth) Barnes. She was raised in Alma, Kansas and graduated from Wabaunsee High School in 1992. She attended Emporia State University and graduated with a Bachelors in Rehabilitation Sciences.Monique was a devoted wife and mother who loved working with kids and was a valued para-educator with Olathe Public Schools. She attended Divine Mercy Parish in Gardner, Kansas. She loved reading Nicholas Sparks novels and taking care of her dog Hunter.On February 14th, 1998, she was united in marriage to Jerry Angel in Paxico. She was mother to Madison Angel and Larry Noah Angel. She is survived by her husband and children; her brother, Tyson Barnes (Yuma, AZ) and niece Allie Barnes; her brothers-in-law, Aaron Angel (Kansas City, KS) and Michael (Jennifer) Angel (Ark City, KS) and nieces Alexis and Shannon Angel; her in-laws, Thomas and Delores Angel (Phoenix, AZ). Tiny passed away suddenly on February 14, 2022 at his home in Manhattan, Kansas. Tiny was born July 19, 1943 in Hawthorne, California, the son of Charles A. and Rina (Fallati) Thornhill. He grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia, graduating from E.C. Glass High School. In Lynchburg he met his future wife, Joan Casebolt. They later divorced. Tiny enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Aberdeen, Maryland; Alaska; France; Vietnam, and Fort Riley, Kansas. After being awarded numerous medals, including the Purple Heart, Tiny was honorably discharged in 1974 as a Staff Sergeant. Tiny began a long career as an auto mechanic in 1974 at Allingham VW in Manhattan. He loved being a mechanic and was exceptionally talented. His career took him to several dealerships in Manhattan where he developed may lifelong friendships. Tiny eventually became the first Master Mechanic in town. After retiring as a mechanic tiny worked at the K-State Student Union as a supervisor of a weekend crew of mainly students many of whom became lifelong friends. After working for the Manhattan Housing Authority, Tiny officially retired. He enjoyed bowling and many other hobbies. As a member of the First Christion Church, Tiny taught Sunday School and drove the church Bus. Tiny was proceeded in death by his parents, a stepmother, a stepfather, and his ex-wife. Tiny is survived by Anne Johnson of the home. Other survivors included his three children: James Russell “Rusty” Thornhill of Austin, Texas, Cynthia Lynn “Cindy” Thornhill of Jacksonville, Florida, and Debora Jean “Debbie” Blevins of Copperas Cove, Texas. Tiny is also survived by his sisters, Judy Davis (Karsten) of New Castle, Virginia, and Mary E. Thornhill of Roanoke, Virginia and a brother, Bruce S. Thornhill of Richmond, Virginia. After graduating from St. Joseph's College in Beulah Hill London he enlisted in the Royal Air Force. He served honorably with the Royal Air Force until his discharge. Brian resided in the United States for over forty years. He was employed with the Junction City Police Department as a dispatcher. After his time with the police department, he obtained a private detective license. At the time of his death, he was retired. Brian attended St. Xavier Catholic Church in Junction City, KS. He enjoyed playing golf, playing pool. He was an avid reader and always looking for another good book. He had a great passion for music and listened to classical music. Survivors include one sister, Violet Elizabeth Marshman of London, England; cousins in both Ireland and England. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Henry Marshman and one sister, Maureen Marshman.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Carol A. Wells, age 74, of Marysville, passed away after a short battle with bone and lung cancer on Friday, February 11, 2022, at Cambridge Place in Marysville.

Carol was born on May 2, 1947, in Beatrice, to Paul L. Maguire and Betty J. (Lattimer) Maguire.&nbsp;She married Charles L. Wells on October 31, 1964, at the First Christian Church in Marysville.&nbsp;He passed away on January 29, 2018.&nbsp;They had three children: Shelly, Chuck and Kelly. She had worked at Valley Vet for fourteen years, retiring in 2013.&nbsp;

In her early years she enjoyed staying home and taking care of her children and even started her own daycare as she loved children so much. Carol was a fun loving sometimes eccentric lady. She loved fast cars and loud music including doo-wop and rock. You would find her working in her garden or hanging clothes on the line when it was warm enough outside. She loved her children, grandchildren and her great grands. They were her world and what she lived for. There wasn’t much she wouldn’t do for them!&nbsp;

Survivors include her three children: Shelly Wells of Beatrice, Chuck (Rakella) Wells of Beattie and Kelly Miller of Blue Rapids, 5 grandchildren: Alex (Lacey) Wells, Johnathan Klein, Steven Klein, Kelsey (Josh) Kenworthy and Emily (Brian) Bussman, and eight great-grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Barbara Maguire, a grandson, Anthony Wells and a son-in-law Mike Miller.

She enjoyed spending time on the farm helping her grandparents out with milking the cows and preparing dinner. She married the love of her life Danny Corbett February 13, 1990. She worked at Chapman Valley Manor until her retirement.

 She has 5 grandchildren who she loved spending time with. She enjoyed teaching them how to cook. In her free time she liked to sew, play hidden object games, decorate for the holidays and watch NCIS.

Gilbert W. Houlton passed away Friday, February 11, 2022 at his home in Abilene. He was born June 26, 1934 in Abilene the son of Frank Houlton, SR and Wilma (Pettriess) Houlton. He graduated from Abilene High School and worked in maintenance for several grain elevators in Abilene before retiring from AD&amp;M Grain. He enjoyed fishing, camping, casino’s boating, mowing his lawn, following the Kansas City Chiefs, and having breakfast at various restaurants. On November 11, 1960 he was united in marriage to Ellen Dawson in Abilene. He is survived by his daughter Vicky Lyne of Ventura, California, his son Kevin Houlton of Oxnard, California, three grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Ellen, two brothers John and Thomas, and one sister Elizabeth. Services for Gilbert will be Monday, February 28, 2022 at the Danner Funeral Home with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. His final resting place will be in the Abilene Cemetery. Following high school, Phil joined the U.S. Marines. He served in Vietnam. Phil earned two Purple Hearts during his service time. He was proud of his honorable service in the Marines. Phil was a 33-year member of the American Legion Pearce Keller Post 17 in Manhattan. He served as a member of the Color Guard for many years. On January 9, 1971 in Wichita, he was united in marriage to his wife Kathy. She survives of the home. Phil moved to Manhattan in 1989. He worked for Kansas State University in Network Services, until his retirement in 2013. He enjoyed playing golf and more golf. He would play anytime and anywhere. Phil was fortunate enough to play the Waste Management TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course last year. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Gene and John. Phil is survived by his wife Kathy, and his sons, Matt and Kevin both of Manhattan; his brothers, Paul Gerdes of Anthony, Kansas and Jay Gerdes of Wichita, Kansas; his sister-in-law, Cindy of McPherson, Kansas; and his nieces and nephews: Adam, Jenny, Thomas, Kate, William and June; and his many friends and extended family. Tina Louise Johnson, 60, of Junction City, KS passed away on February 9, 2022 at Wakefield Care and Rehabilitation, Wakefield, KS.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 18, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 203 N. Washington Street, Junction City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at New Church of the Living God, 1315 W. Ash Street, Junction City, with Bishop James E. Johnson officiating. Tina was born on June 19, 1961 (Juneteenth) in Junction City, KS to Edward Reginald and Nellie Agnes (Magee) Johnson. She attended several local elementary schools, Junction City Middle School, and graduated from Junction City High School in 1979. In 1997, Tina graduated from Barton County Community College with an Associate Degree in Applied Science. She would later go on to work in various areas of customer service. Tina attended New Church of the Living God in Junction City. She was baptized on October 13, 2013 under the leadership of Bishop James E. Johnson. Tina loved God and serving people. Tina had a passion for helping others and listening to them. She was a reliable person upon whom many depended. She was always smiling and happy even when facing many hardships. She was a person who advocated for herself and others. Tina never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone if she could. Tina’s hobbies included cooking and trying new recipes, playing bingo, dominoes and games on her cellphone, watching soap operas, learning new tech gadgets, volunteering, listening to gospel and old school music, traveling, catching up with family and friends, creating funny filters/FaceTime with her granddaughter, and online shopping. Tina loved her fur baby, Love, with whom she spent quite a bit of time. Love was her dog’s name because she loved people just like Tina. Survivors include one daughter, Natalie (Spencer) Ragsdale of Kansas City, KS, one son, Ivan J. Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO, one granddaughter, Imani Johnson, two sisters, IdaMae Ware of Junction City, KS, Mary Grismore of Fort Worth, TX, and two brothers, Edward R. Angela was born June 5, 1985, at Fort Leavenworth, KS. the daughter of George Keene and Yong Hui Cho Lucas. Angela graduated from Junction City High School. After high school, she enlisted in the United States Army where she worked as a medical laboratory technician at various Army hospitals. She later returned and attended Bellus Academy in Manhattan, KS. She also attended and graduated from Manhattan Christian College. Angela was an avid online gamer. She also raised money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. She married Joseph Palone March 21, 2010 in Junction City, KS. Survivors include her husband Joe of the home; one son, Teddy Palone; parents, George and Yong Lucas of Junction City, KS; one sister-in-law Martie Pych; one niece, Deanna Pych.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Eldon Eugene Sundgren, age 90 of Leonardville, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center. 

He was born on October 13, 1931 in Clay Center, the son of Alfred Edward and Emma Adina (Carlson) Sundgren.  He attended Walsburg Grade School and graduated from Leonardville High School.  Following graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and served in Naples, Italy and Cuba as a Mechanic and Equipment Operator.

He married Beverly Jane Specht on April 20, 1958.  She survives of the home.

Eldon was a lifetime farmer and was a charter member of the Riley County Young Farmers.  He served on the Leonardville Rural Fire Department for 35 years.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Walsburg Lutheran Church, serving on council and as the church treasurer.  In recent years, he attended the Fairview Presbyterian Church.  Eldon also served on the Riley County Conservation Board, Fancy Creek Township Board and Farmers Union Coop Board. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Ann Sundgren of Wichita; a son, Darin Sundgren and wife Lori and their son, Devon of Bakersfield, California; a brother, Kermit Sundgren and wife Jessie of Leonardville and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the Walsburg Lutheran Church with Rev. Keith Wiens and Pastor Gerry Sharp officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.  Burial will be in the Walsburg Cemetery with Military Honors.

William Carl Hentzler, III, age 78 of Silver Lake, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022 at UKH St. Francis Medical Center in Topeka.

He was born on April 27, 1943 in Topeka, the son of William C. Jr. and Ethel Anne (Setchell) Hentzler.

He married Marilyn Rae Foresman in 2000.  She survives of the home.

Bill was a carmen and welder for Santa Fe Railroad.  He loved attending his grandkids activities, gardening, golfing and his dogs.  He enjoyed volunteering for the United Way, Cancer Society, Operation Backpack, Let’s Help and Prairieland Foods.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, William Bret Hentzler of Topeka; three daughters, Brooke Louanne Roark and husband Brendon of Topeka, Jill R. Weems of Salina and Jayme May and husband Ivan of Silver Lake; one sister, Judith Anne Hentzler of Topeka; one brother, John Henry and wife Beverly of Georgetown, Texas and also an eight man football team with two subs and four cheerleaders (thirteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter).

Cremation is planned with graveside services in the Bala Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on April 9, 2022.

Memorials may be made to the Silver Lake Scholarship Fund or to the Donor’s Choice.  Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Evelyn Billera, 88 died February 10, 2022, in Clay Center.&nbsp; She was born on May 18, 1933.&nbsp; Evelyn married Vincent Billera on April 17, 1955.&nbsp; They lived in New York before moving to Clay Center in 1999.&nbsp; Vincent and Evelyn volunteered at Apollo Towers Senior Center, service noon meals for many years.&nbsp; Vincent preceded her in death on February 12, 2012.&nbsp; She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.&nbsp; Evelyn was also preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Linda Blackwood.

Wesley “Carleen” Martin, 68, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at her home in Clay Center, Kansas.

Carleen was born on July 13, 1953 in Chillicothe, Missouri, the daughter of William and Virginia (King) Simpson. She spent her formative years in Marysville, Kansas. On November 27, 1970, she was united in marriage to Monte Martin at Waterville, Kansas. The union was blessed with the birth of one son and one daughter, Brian and Brenda.

The family moved to McPherson, Kansas where they raised their children. After her children were grown, Monte and Carleen moved to Frankfort, Kansas where they made a wonderful home and life to share with their grandchildren.

Carleen was a homemaker/Stay at home Mom most of her life. She dedicated and devoted her life to her children and grandchildren.

After her children and grandchildren grew up and left the home she took on new hobbies. Her Favorite pass time was logging on to her computer and playing online community games, during which she met some amazing and lifelong friends that she enjoyed talking to every day.

Throughout her life, Carleen devoted herself to caring for her family and for her friends. She was a loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother who would always put her family before herself. We know that she is in peace in heaven, and it is a comfort to her family knowing that she has been reunited with her loving husband and is free of pain and sadness.

Survivors include her son, Brian Martin, her daughter, Brenda Hudlin of Clay Center, KS, sister Linda Roy of Aurora, MO, granddaughter Cortney Poley of Wilber, NE, grandson, Kyle Hudlin of Frankfort, Ks, grandson, Jacob Hudlin of Clay Center, KS, grandson Kalib Martin of Denver, CO and 7 Great Grand Kids. She was Preceeded in death by her loving Husband Monte Martin, brothers, Gary Simpson and Fred Simpson, Sister Jena Novak, Mother Virginia Simpson, Father William Simpson and Grandson Ryder Martin.

Her Favorite pass time was logging on to her computer and playing online community games, during which she met some amazing and lifelong friends that she enjoyed talking to every day.Throughout her life, Carleen devoted herself to caring for her family and for her friends. She was a loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother who would always put her family before herself. We know that she is in peace in heaven, and it is a comfort to her family knowing that she has been reunited with her loving husband and is free of pain and sadness.Survivors include her son, Brian Martin, her daughter, Brenda Hudlin of Clay Center, KS, sister Linda Roy of Aurora, MO, granddaughter Cortney Poley of Wilber, NE, grandson, Kyle Hudlin of Frankfort, Ks, grandson, Jacob Hudlin of Clay Center, KS, grandson Kalib Martin of Denver, CO and 7 Great Grand Kids. She was Preceeded in death by her loving Husband Monte Martin, brothers, Gary Simpson and Fred Simpson, Sister Jena Novak, Mother Virginia Simpson, Father William Simpson and Grandson Ryder Martin.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a .m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas.&nbsp; A graveside service will be follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Union Cemetery in Beattie, Kansas.Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time on Tuesday, February 15 at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carleen Martin memorial fund to be designated later by the family and can be sent c/o the funeral home.

Linda Kay (Gaskill) Kuntz passed away February 10, 2022 at Abilene Memorial Hospital following a short illness, with family by her side. Linda was born August 6, 1945 to James Maxson and Wilna Marie (Jones) Gaskill. Her earliest years were spent on her grandparents’ (Ethel and Harold Jones) small farm just northwest of town. Later the family moved to an acreage west of Abilene. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1963 and then attended Kansas State University for two years. She was the first woman in the Meat Production Program and was proficient at judging meat and cattle. She was a candidate for Royal Purple Queen, a finalist for K-State Rodeo Queen and a nominee for the Ag Honorary, however at that time she was told it was only for men. She also was a two-time first runner up to the state Angus queen. Later when her children were active in 4-H, she served as community 4-H leader for twenty-four years while serving the Talmage Progressives and the Harmony Hustlers. She served two terms on the Dickinson County Extension Board and was a charter member of the Buckeye Saddle Club. Linda married Gordon Kuntz on October 24, 1965 and together they farmed north of Abilene. They were married for forty-nine years at the time of Gordon’s death in 2015. Linda accepted a position at the Eisenhower Center in May of 1989, working there for thirty-one years before she retired in 2020. While there, she was honored for a living history program that she designed. It included adults and children that portrayed the Eisenhower family during Ike’s early years. They reenacted “life at home” for visitors to the Eisenhower home. All the garments used in the program were period-appropriate and hand sewn by Linda. For her efforts with this program she received a National Archives Award, which was presented to her in Washington, D.C. Linda’s attention to detail was evident in all aspects of her life, whether it was gardening, canning, sewing, cooking, researching or landscaping her beautiful home. Early in her life she adopted the Bible verse found in Colossians 3: 23 that says, “whatever you do, do it as if doing it for the Lord.” She has lived that verse out each day of her life. Genealogy has also been a longtime interest of Linda’s and she has provided extensive family history for her friends and family. She loved and supported the Central Kansas Free Fair and Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo. She painted the advertising signs for the rodeo arena for many years. She was honored to be selected as parade marshal twice. Linda was an enthusiastic supporter of her children and grandchildren whether they were showing livestock, baking goods, building rockets or assisting with the tractor pull. As part of Kuntz Land and Cattle, she took an active role in day-to-day operations. Linda will be especially missed at wheat harvest time. She always brought delicious meals to the field each day, knowing the break and nutritious food was important to the workers. Linda was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Church in Abilene, serving in many administrative positions. She and her family traveled with others from the church three summers to the Navajo reservation in New Mexico, to help build a home for battered women. She is survived by her children Kristen (Schmalzried) and husband Gerald of Raymore Missouri, Dusty (Gina), and Travis (Kristen) of Abilene, and grandchildren Raycelon, Ryder, Rowdy, Laine, Aaron, Riggin, Lorelai, Emmett, Belle and Elsie. She is also survived by sister Lisa Peters of Abilene, and was preceded in death by brother James R. Gaskill. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 15 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Church and the funeral service will be Wednesday, February 16 at 10:30 a.m., also at Emmanuel Church. Burial will follow at Livingston Cemetery, north of Abilene. A lunch will be provided at her residence following burial for family and friends.
