Shirley Jane Strauss, age 80 of Riley, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022 at her residence.

She was born on September 4, 1941 in Hays, the daughter of Chancy and Lena (Liggett) Fellers

On August 9, 1959, she married Richard Otto Strauss.  He survives of the home.



Shirley worked for over 25 years at the Riley State Bank and loved her time there, serving in many capacities.  She helped her husband on the farm, being able to do anything that was asked of her.  Shirley collected anything having to do with pigs and you couldn’t walk into her house without knowing it.  She was a member of the Walsburg Lutheran Church.



In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Dan Strauss and wife Illene of Riley; four grandchildren, Allen Strauss (Rose), David Smith (Joy), Angela Smith and Jamie Christensen and five great grandchildren, Hanna Strauss, Raelynn Strauss, Summer Strauss, Susan Tyrell and Makenna Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister,  Judy Mall.

Cremation is planned with private family services at a later date.

A memorial has been established for Walsburg Lutheran Church. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Vernadell Yarrow

Arvin H. Eilders was born on May 15, 1931 in Lyon County Iowa to Harm D. and Gertrude (Krahling) Eilders. Arvin grew up on the family farm and completed 8th grade at Dale #9. He then joined his father on the farm. He was a member of the Lyon County Presbyterian Church being baptized into the faith when he was 14. He married Betty J. Rypkema in 1952. He then was drafted into the Army in 1952 and was an army tank driver. He served in the army for 2 years and then returned to the family farm. A son, Kent, was born in 1956 and then he moved to Stewartville, MN where he farmed. A daughter, Kim was born in 1960. He then moved to Iowa where another daughter, Kandyce was born in 1970. After moving to Lake City, IA he worked for Bowie selling mobile veterinary units. He then moved to Solomon, Ks where he purchased a farm and returned to farming. He and Betty divorced in 1973. He then met and married Virginia Denson in 1979 and they were married 42 years making their home on the farm south of Solomon, Ks.

Arvin was a member of Belmont Blvd Nazarene Church where he served in various capacities. He served several years on the church board as a trustee. He also served as Adult Sunday School Director, Head Usher and just about anywhere he was needed. He is survived by his widow, Virginia, 3 children, Kent (Kate) Eilders, Kim (Don) Montgomery, and Kandyce Eilders, 3 step children, Carmen Denson, Craig( Nancy) Denson, and Crystal (Sherry Gabbart) Denson, 9 grandchildren, and10 great grandchildren He is survived by 1 sister, Joan (Harlan) Boer, 2 brothers Richard (Jan) Eilders, and Robert (Pat) Eilders. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Ruth, Byrla, and Janet. Graveside services will be at Green Lawn Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2022. Arvin Eilders - May 15, 1931 - February 5th, 2022

Dorothy "Dottie" Hoffman was born April 24, 1933 in Abilene the daughter of Emil Ripper and Carolee (Dickinson) Wilson. She was a lifelong resident graduating from Solomon High School. On July 5, 1950 she married Leroy “Junior” Hoffman. Together they farmed and Dorothy was a homemaker. Dottie was a member of the Emmanuel Church in Abilene and enjoyed crafting, bowling, golfing, and fishing with Junior. She also spent a great deal of her time volunteering at the Abilene Memorial Hospital at the front desk. She is survived by her son Lonnie and his wife Dhera Hoffman of Groton, South Dakota, her daughter-in-law June Hoffman of Chapman, seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Junior on November 4, 2010, her son Larry Hoffman, her grandson Troy Hoffman, and her parents. Funeral services for Dottie will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2022 at the Emmanuel Church in Abilene with Pastor Gordon McClure officiating. Stephen Stallwitz, age 73, of Manhattan, died February 1, 2022, at his residence. He was born June 1, 1948, in Manhattan, the son of Arthur W. and JoAnn C. (Creviston) Stallwitz. Steve graduated from Manhattan High School in 1966 and then from Kansas State University in 1971 with his degree in Journalism. He worked for the Manhattan Mercury for a total of 42 years, and 36 of those years as Advertising Director before retiring in 2016. Steve had a passion for Kansas State football and basketball, was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his partner Gabe Schwiesow of the home; one daughter Kimberly Swanson and her boyfriend Jeff Wolske of Rosemont, MN; one grandson Connor Swanson; three siblings: Jim Cunningham of Broken Arrow, OK, Julie King of Oklahoma City, OK, and Jayne Shope of Oklahoma City, OK; and one niece and two nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and by his step-father Robert Cunningham and his step-mother Jill Stallwitz. Cremation is planned with a celebration of his life at a later date. Kenneth Wayne Brown, age 82, a longtime Manhattan resident, died February 3, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. He was born February 20, 1939, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Wayne and Evelyn (Blasing) Brown. Kenneth served for four years in the United States Navy and then worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring after 36 years of service. He was married to Bonnie Johnson on June 12, 1960. Ken loved to fish and watch all of his grandchildren’s activities. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and watching sports on TV. Survivors include his three children: Danny W. Brown and his wife Cammy of El Dorado, KS, Mark D. Brown and his wife Cindy Johnson of Tucson, AZ; and Clara Menhusen of Silver Lake, KS; Bonnie Brown of Manhattan; four grandchildren: Erin George, Jessica Bundy, NaTasha Brown and Mark Brown; 10 great-grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Bernard Menhusen; and two brothers: Tommy and Danny Brown. Kenneth Wayne Brown

Ramona Smith Woodhouse went to heaven on February 3,2022 at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community, Collins House, Manhattan, Kansas. Ramona was born in Rolla, Kansas on May 22,1922 to Howard and Elsie Smith. She graduated from Liberal High School in 1941. After graduation she moved to California where she made airplane parts during the war. On October 20,1944 she married the love of her life Tom in Clay Center Kansas. They celebrated 67 years of marriage until his passing in 2012. Tom and Ramona moved to Manhattan in 1945. A daughter, Linda was born in 1946. Ramona had many talents. She was a cook at 2 fraternities over a 12-year period. She was an amazing cook. Her pies were her specialty. She was active in the College Avenue United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school and Bible school. She was on the administrative board, secretary of church nominations and a member of the council of ministries board. She was president several years of the women’s society of the church. She was chairman of the Christmas festival and church dinner. She helped organize a group of young adults for a community project and presentation program. She helped with the Blue and Gold Banquet yearly for the scouts that met in the church. Ramona was a girl scout leader and helped at the day camps. Ramona was active with the Head Start children at Lee School. She served as a room mother and active in PTA Community service included block worker for cancer drives, muscular dystrophy and heart fund. She was chairman for Manhattan arthritis drive. Ramona loved being a clothing and cooking leader for College Hill 4-H club and judging at the Riley County Fair. Ramona joined Harmony Rebekah Lodge 689 in 1952. She helped many offices and responsibilities, including Noble Grand. Tom and Ramona repaired toys and dolls for underprivileged children for Christmas. As a couple they used their talents to create many handmade crafts. They included handcrafted educational puzzles, wooden ornaments, and very elaborate real eggs. The eggs ranged in size form quail eggs to ostrich eggs and included carousel and music boxes. Ramona was an accomplished seamstress. She knitted and crochet. Ramona loved working puzzles and playing Rummikub with friends and neighbors. Ramona loved her family and friends and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter Linda Tiemann and husband Larry, Chanute, Ks; sister Shirley Stover, McKinney, Texas; granddaughter Cheryl Tiemann and Great Grandson Nathaniel Tiemann, Chanute, Ks.,. grandson Justin Tiemann and wife Perla, and great grandsons Salvador, Fernando, and Great Granddaughter Alexa, Manhattan, Ks. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Tom, sisters: Lila Gillette, Ireta Long, Phyllis Sammons, and brothers Leslie Smith, Kenneth Smith, Shermon Smith and infant brother Noble. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 10 a.m. Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan, with Rev. They celebrated 67 years of marriage until his passing in 2012. Tom and Ramona moved to Manhattan in 1945. A daughter, Linda was born in 1946. Ramona had many talents. She was a cook at 2 fraternities over a 12-year period. She was an amazing cook. Her pies were her specialty. She was active in the College Avenue United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school and Bible school. She was on the administrative board, secretary of church nominations and a member of the council of ministries board. She was president several years of the women’s society of the church. She was chairman of the Christmas festival and church dinner. She helped organize a group of young adults for a community project and presentation program. She helped with the Blue and Gold Banquet yearly for the scouts that met in the church. Ramona was a girl scout leader and helped at the day camps. Ramona was active with the Head Start children at Lee School. She served as a room mother and active in PTA Community service included block worker for cancer drives, muscular dystrophy and heart fund. She was chairman for Manhattan arthritis drive. Ramona loved being a clothing and cooking leader for College Hill 4-H club and judging at the Riley County Fair. Ramona joined Harmony Rebekah Lodge 689 in 1952. She helped many offices and responsibilities, including Noble Grand. Tom and Ramona repaired toys and dolls for underprivileged children for Christmas. As a couple they used their talents to create many handmade crafts. They included handcrafted educational puzzles, wooden ornaments, and very elaborate real eggs. The eggs ranged in size form quail eggs to ostrich eggs and included carousel and music boxes. Ramona was an accomplished seamstress. She knitted and crochet. Ramona loved working puzzles and playing Rummikub with friends and neighbors. Ramona loved her family and friends and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter Linda Tiemann and husband Larry, Chanute, Ks; sister Shirley Stover, McKinney, Texas; granddaughter Cheryl Tiemann and Great Grandson Nathaniel Tiemann, Chanute, Ks.,. grandson Justin Tiemann and wife Perla, and great grandsons Salvador, Fernando, and Great Granddaughter Alexa, Manhattan, Ks. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Tom, sisters: Lila Gillette, Ireta Long, Phyllis Sammons, and brothers Leslie Smith, Kenneth Smith, Shermon Smith and infant brother Noble. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 10 a.m. Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan, with Rev. Turie M. Mahlman, 72, of Blaine, Kansas, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Monday (January 31, 2022) at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas.

Born August 6, 1949 in Cody, Wyoming, Turie was the daughter of Jack and Turie (Loftsgarden) Saxton.&nbsp; She grew up on the TE Ranch, near Cody, WY, and developed her love of horses as a child and kept it until her last day.&nbsp; She also loved fishing, camping and tending to her vegetable garden.&nbsp; Turie enjoyed helping others and had donated over 8 gallons of blood with the American Red Cross.

Turie was employed as a cook for Laramie County School District #1, in Cheyenne, WY for 20 years.&nbsp; She then moved to Kansas and worked at the Onaga Hospital and other schools.&nbsp;

Survivors include her mother, Turie Saxton of Cody, WY; two daughters, Michaela Lavender of Cheyenne, WY and Kasie Mahlman of Wheaton, KS; four grandchildren, Michael Brasel, Shaia Coley, Jade Lovelady, and Nicholas Lavender; a great grandchild, Carson Dixon; a sister, Vicki Morgan of Cody, WY; and 4 Nieces and 1 Nephew.

Turie was preceded in death by her father, Jack; and her Best Friend, Jim Damme.

Barbara LaVange Sester, 69, of Wamego, Kansas, died Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at the Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan. She was a long-time resident of the area.

Barb was born June 7, 1952, in Kanas City Missouri, the daughter of Robert L and Norma Jean (Draffen) Corn. She attended local grade school and graduated in 1970 from Raytown High School, in Raytown, Missouri.

Barb worked various housekeeping and retail jobs over the years. In her earlier years she enjoyed bowling.

Barb married James Joseph (Jimmy) Sester on April 15, 1983. He preceded her in death on June 26, 2021.

Barb is survived by her son, Robert Smith and his wife, Tara, of rural Alma; her sister, Paula Thorne and her husband, Michael, Raytown, Missouri; and her sister-in-law, Betty Tessendorf (Clifford), Belvue; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Barb was also preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Jo Sester, and her parents.

Dennis Lee “Denny” Davis, 86, of Alma, Kansas, died Monday, January 31, 2022, at the Home of the Flint Hills. He was a life-long resident of the area.

Denny was born on October 19, 1935, in Wamego, Kansas, the son of Gerald J. and Wilma P. (Kietzman) Davis. He attended local grade school and graduated from Alma High School in 1953.

Denny worked for almost twenty years delivering LP gas for the Alma Coop. He then worked nineteen years for Jeffrey Energy Center. He retired as the supervisor for the building and grounds department. Denny also worked a short time as a UPS delivery driver and for Iowa Beef.

Denny married Evelyn Thowe on September 4, 1953, and after sixty-eight years of marriage, she survives at their home.

Denny is also survived by his children; Gregg Davis (Kathy), Julie Wahl (Bill), and Brad Davis (Kris); his grandchildren; Kristopher Davis, Ashley Schenewerk (Grant), Rhianna Anderson (Michael), Amanda Nobles, Lee Wahl (Kristine), Kyle Davis (Tara), and Michelle Buster (Freehley). Denny was also blessed with fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Darrell Davis.

Denny loved to garden and raise flowers. He was known for his flower beds. He and Evie enjoyed fishing and traveling. He made several fishing trips to Colorado, and they traveled to many places, including to Germany, Alaska, and most of the National Parks. Denny and Evie volunteered for Open Door and Meals on Wheels. They were also members of the Topeka Jazz Workshop and enjoyed going for thirty-five years. Denny was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and served on the Stewardship and Elder Boards. He also drove a school bus for St. John Lutheran School and spent many countless hours mowing the cemetery for all to enjoy.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 26, 2022, at St. John Lutheran Church in Alma. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m.&nbsp; A funeral lunch following the service and then inurnment in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery. David was born on February 26th, 1952 in Wellington, Kansas, to Jack and Patricia June Yearout. He resided with his family in Mayfield, Kansas, attending Wellington High School and marrying his first love, Patricia Ann Kloefkorn, just after graduation. They had two children, Jason and Tiffany, of whom David was immensely proud. They moved around the state for a period of time before settling in El Dorado in 1991, where they made their home until retiring in 2020 and moving to Junction City to be near their four beautiful grandchildren.

David was a man of many talents, and focused those talents on his career for over 40 years of working in Planning and Zoning. He was known as the resident expert in that field across the state of Kansas, and thoroughly enjoyed sharing his knowledge and passion with others. In addition to a storied career, David had a golden voice, having been the official sports announcer for Butler Community College for well over a decade. For many years David ‘bled purple’ with Butler pride, following the team across the country, and he and Trisha hosted dozens of football players in their home. He even drove around the state for years in his purple PT cruiser!

David and his wife were active members in the Presbyterian Church, and David’s faith was an important part of his life. Not only faithful, David was notorious for his intrepid sense of humor, his generosity, his fortitude, and knowing no strangers. He loved life, he loved people, and he brought so much joy to all he knew. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father, and a grandpa like none other. He loved his four grandchildren fiercely, and his legacy of love will live on through all he taught them.

David is survived by his wife, Patricia, son Jason (Mary Catherine), daughter Tiffany (Teran) Naccarato, and four grandchildren Bryton, Everly, Jovie, and Paxton Naccarato; siblings Janet (John) Baptist, Jeff (Jennifer) Yearout; Sonja (Hinez) Benavidez, and Ron (Talotta) Kloefkorn; nephews Curtis Baptist, Aaron (Autumn) Kloefkorn, and Lorenzo Benavidez, and Bradley Yearout; nieces Kristy (Ernie) Williams, Belinda (Crisanto) Perez, and Jacque Kloefkorn; and many, many extended family and friends.

The amazing and beautifully soulful Blake Christian Frederick Thomas McCoy left the love of his family and friends on January 26th to spread his wings amongst the heavens.

With Blake's departure, many are feeling the dimness in his absence, from his many wonderful friends to his family including his father Thomas McCoy, mother Melony Gabbert, siblings Devin Caswell and Olivia Sibert, and certainly his grandparents, nieces and nephew.

A dimness for animals has also occurred as Blake had an affinity for animals and never met one that wasn't loved on. Blake was a rescue dog owner and supporter to which we will continue to advocate for in his absence.&nbsp;

Blake was born and raised in Manhattan, KS and attended Seven Dolors Catholic School through 8th grade before attending Manhattan High School's East and West Campus.

Music and guitar became a passion for Blake. He became quite skilled and loved to jam with his friends and even played in a couple of gigs around town. I smile when I reminisce of him on the guitar with his buddy tearing up the drums as their hair flew and the windows rattled.&nbsp;

If you've ever met Blake, you were certainly taken by his charming smile and easy going nature. His soulful beauty blessed those who were fortunate to know him and feel his presence. Quirky humor and ever smiling...a Blake to remember.

A small inurnment service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 4th at Sunrise Cemetery, Section M, 2901 Stagg Hill Rd. , Manhattan, KS.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 5th at Scenic Valley Inn Evens Center, 610 South Scenic Drive, Manhattan, KS. Come celebrate Blake and feel the love so many have for him. A visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Ne Chelle was born February 5, 1964, at Fort Irwin, CA, the daughter of Frank James Holland, Jr. and Daisy Jean Jackson. Ne Chelle was a military spouse for twenty years having earned many awards and decorations for her volunteer and efforts while her husband served in the military. She was an active and faithful member of various churches. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader and worked as a para-professional for U.S.D. #475 at various schools. Her last career was working for AAFES at Fort Riley. Her greatest passion was helping her family and friends. Many people considered her as a second mom or a member of their family. On June 3, 1983, she married Jerry L. Bronson at Fort Hood, TX. Survivors include her husband Jerry of the home in Junction City, KS; two daughters, Shenna Banks and her spouse April of Manhattan, KS and Jeannie Bronson of Junction City, KS; two grandchildren, Ja' Ziyah and Juelz of Junction City, KS; one brother, Frank Holland, III; two sisters, Trenneisa Taylor and Amon James; a host of nephew, nieces, uncles, aunts and a host of other relatives and friends. Vernon Michael Tabor, 63, of Manhattan, died January 26, 2022.

Vernon was born on October 6, 1958 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Vernon and Blanch Tabor. He studied at the University of Kansas and had a long career with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, at the field office in Manhattan. In his retirement Vernon enjoyed traveling, visiting friends and family, and making the most out of life. No one was a stranger to Vernon. He is survived by his children, Thorin Tabor (Alexandra Oleske) of La Jolla, California, and Lisa Tabor of Cedar Falls, Iowa; his sisters, Susan Reitemeier (Ed) of Kansas City, Kansas, and Sandy Tabor (John Ellis) of St. Croix, USVI; his grandson Loki Tabor; and also, his nephew Matthew Reitemeier of Kansas City, Kansas. Wyona Johnson - October 14, 1936 - January 31, 2022

Sherry Almquist, 75, passed away on January 31, 2022, after courageously battling Alzheimer’s Disease for over 20 years. She was an incredible mother, an adored daughter, sister, aunt and cousin, a loyal and loving friend, a gifted counselor and teacher, and a beautiful human being with a smile that could light up a room. She will be missed terribly. She was born Sherry Sue Seaman on March 15, 1946, the fourth child of Neal and Ardith Seaman of Chapman. She was an active student at Dickinson County High School, where she was involved in drama, cheerleading, music and student government. She was crowned homecoming queen her senior year and graduated in 1964 before continuing her studies at Kansas State University in Manhattan. Sherry graduated from KSU in 1969 and was the first person in her family to get a college degree. While at K-State, Sherry met and married Merlan Almquist of Assaria, and their children Eric and Kimberly were born several years later. Sherry and Merlan settled in Salina for many years, and although their marriage ultimately ended, their friendship did not. After being an amazing full-time mother, Sherry taught English at Salina Central High School from 1979-1987, and upon completion of her master’s degree from K-State, continued to work for the district as a counselor. After finishing her PhD in 1995, she worked as a counselor in the student health center at Oklahoma State University. When she returned to Kansas a few years later, she worked as a clinical counselor in Salina, taught Counselor Education at Emporia State University, and worked as an elementary school counselor for the Topeka school district. Sherry leaves behind her daughter Kim Luce and son-in-law Chad Luce of Lawrence; her son Eric Almquist and daughter-in-law Jiffy Iuen of Los Angeles; her ex-husband Merlan Almquist of Athens, Ohio; several cousins and many nieces and nephews. Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert Seaman of Emporia, her brother Tracy Seaman of Chapman, and her beloved sister Merry Jo Cecil of Houston. Visitation will be at Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel in Chapman on February 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by burial at Indian Hill Cemetery. Alfred “Al” Morgan, 93 of Hope passed away January 29, 2022 at Herington Hospital. He was born October 25, 1928 North of Hope, the son of Joe and Frieda (Sheets) Morgan. He attended the Hope school districts and graduated from Hope High School. On July 1, 1953 he was united in marriage to Theresa Weber. She preceded him in death. Al worked 21 years for Michigan Wisconsin Gas Plant and eleven years as a custodian for the Hope District.&nbsp; In 1951 he enlisted in the United States Army.

 Al is survived by his son Kenneth (Emilee) Morgan of Hope and a daughter, Cindy O’Bray and husband Leroy of Hope. Seven grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and one sister, Issy Monty. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Theresa, parents, and one sister and three brothers. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 4, 2022 at St. Phillip’s Catholic Church in Hope. Burial will follow at St. Phillips Catholic Cemetery. Barry McKee, 78, of Ogden, passed away Sunday, January 30th, at his residence. Barry was retired from the US Army, serving during the Vietnam War as an E-6, and had also worked for Armour, Smithfield, and Eckrich, working as a machine operator in pork processing. Born in Rockville Centre, NY on March 23, 1943, Barry was the son of the late Margaret Elizabeth (Tiedmann) Auchmoody and James Henry McKee. Barry was married to Maxine Fay (Beverage) McKee and she survives of the home. Barry is survived by his wife, Maxine; one daughter, Belinda D. McBee, wife of Steven E. McBee Jr. of Leander, TX and a stepdaughter, Tina M Adams, and her husband of Manhattan. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, a son-in-law, and 16 great-grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;

John M. Farrell, Sr., passed away on January 30th, 2020. John was born May 15th, 1938, in Manhattan Kansas to Ellen G. (Leonard) and John J. Farrell. After graduating from Boys Town, Nebraska, John moved back to Manhattan Kansas. He met and then married Jerene J. Rankin on July 14th, 1962, at the Seven Dolors Catholic Church. His own business, Farrell Electronics, was founded in 1963 in the garage of his home; he later moved the business downtown. Professionally, John was a member of the National Association of Business and Educational Radio (NABER), Professional Mobile Radio Service Section (PMRSS), Association of Communications Technicians (ACT), National Electronic Sales and Service Dealers Association (NESDA), and the Kansas Electronics Association (KEA). John was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Optimist Club. John loved flying and for several years co-owned and flew his own plane. Other pass-times include league bowling and watching Kansas State and Chiefs football. John was preceded in death by both of his parents, Ellen G.(Leonard) and John J. Farrell, his wife Jerene (Jean), his brother, Leonard Patrick Farrell, and his niece Lu. He is survived by his three children, Barbara Axelton and John Farrell Jr. of Manhattan, Patricia Newcome of Topeka, and seven grandchildren.
