Eldon A. Riffel, 84 passed away Sunday, May 22, 2022 in Abilene KS. He was born on November 29, 1937 in rural Hope KS, the son of Manuel and Mabel (Buenning) Riffel.

Growing up in the Navarre KS area, Eldon attended Walnut Grove and Navarre schools, and was a 1955 graduate of Chapman High School. In 1957 he married Darlene Hartung, who passed away in 1960. On December 2, 1962, he married Patricia “Pat” A. Klingberg in Hope KS. They spent their married life at their home in rural Hope. Eldon’s priorities in life were based on faith, family, and service. He was a leader in his church and community holding the position of a deacon at the Ebenezer Baptist Church for 46 years, was a song leader, and Sunday school teacher. Additionally, he held school board positions at Hope/White City schools.

Eldon enjoyed farm life, raising crops and cattle in the Hope and Navarre areas. He was also a distinguished finish carpenter. With his loving wife Pat, he sang duets, tended garden, and made memories with children and grandchildren. He was loved for his sense of humor.

Eldon was preceded in death by wife Darlene Riffel of 3 years, wife Pat Riffel of 57 years, his parents, brother Maynard Riffel, brother Robert Riffel, son Kenneth Riffel, and granddaughter Laura Farley. Survivors include: daughter-in-law Carla Riffel (Kenneth) of Hope, son Dr. Alan Lyne (Monica) of Ventura CA, son Robert Riffel of Wichita, daughter Susan Albrecht (Mark) of Bella Vista AR, son Cecil Riffel (Cynthia) of Hope, daughter Lorrie Adkins of Hope, son Scott Riffel (Amanda) of Haltom City TX, son Roger Riffel (Jenni) of Omaha NE, sister-in-law Jean Riffel (Maynard) of Rose Hill, sister-in-law Marilyn Hostetter (Donnie) of Hope, sister-in-law Lynda Hise (Del) of Albany OR, 24 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Allan Smoot died on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at the Geary Community Hospital in Junction City, KS. Cremation will take place. A private family service is planned. He was born in St. John, NB, Canada on January 26, 1945. He and his brother Carl were adopted by EP Smoot and Marian Smoot when he was 6 months old to their established home in West Glenville, NY. He attended Scotia-Glenville schools and graduated from high school in 1963. He then moved to Kansas and attended Kansas State University. He was always very talented in music and played first chair in the orchestra for cello. He could play the piano and guitar. He and his mother frequently played cello and piano duets. He was married in Kansas and began raising two boys, Edward and James. He was then divorced. He served 16 years in the Kansas National Guard with a final rank of Sergeant First Class. He had multiple jobs and businesses. He worked managing the Triplett Gas Station, owned and managed his restaurant, owned and managed bars, worked for subcontractors on Ft. Riley. He had an auto accident in 1992 which resulted in over 50% burns and multiple fractures. He spent over 4 months on a ventilator at the KU Burn Center. He had multiple skin grafts and bone fixation. He wore a compression suit to keep his skin grafts stable for a year, assisted by his multiple friends, then returned to work. He has always been hard working, very kind, and somewhat shy his entire life. He has multiple friends in the Junction City area. He has enjoyed working on antique cars and taking care of multiple rescue dogs. He is survived by his brother Carl of Kingsford, MI; his sons Ed and James, of Paola, KS.

William H. McReynolds, age 76, of Blue Rapids, passed away Friday, May 20, 2022, at Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Richard C. “Rick” Thompson, age 65, of Omaha, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Rick was born July 31, 1956, in Omaha, to Eugene J. and Iris I. (Fleck) Thompson.&nbsp; He married Deborah D. Claycamp on August 17, 1973, in Omaha.&nbsp;&nbsp; He joined four of his brothers in the Nebraska Army National Guard and served for six years.&nbsp; Rick worked for the city of Omaha in Parks and Street Maintenance retiring in 2013.&nbsp; He then worked for Atlas Awning in Omaha. He was a member of Word of Life Fellowship in Omaha.

To Rick, family was everything.&nbsp; A faithful, loving, and constant friend to his wife of almost 51 years, a proud and loving father to his children, and Papa to his grandchildren.&nbsp; Rick loved his family beyond words and over the years his family was extended as he became a surrogate father and mentor to his many nieces, nephews, and many of the kids in the neighborhood. Rick even picked up a few extra grandchildren in the neighborhood as he always took time to let them know he was the nice guy with the endless supply of popsicles on the block. If you spent any time around Rick, you soon learned He was a prankster. On rare occasions, Rick would prank himself when he would forget about one of his well laid plans only to come across it later after he had forgotten about it.

Eldyn “Al” Peck, 90 of Clay Center, died Friday, May 20 , 2022 at his residence.&nbsp; He was born on February 22, 1932 in Birdsall, New York, the son of William and Lena (Wheaton) Peck.&nbsp;

Al came to the Clay Center area when he was stationed at Fort Riley after a tour of duty in Germany in the early 1950s and he later served in Korea.&nbsp; He married a Kansas girl by the name of Betty May on December 31, 1955 and they remained in Kansas after he left the Army.&nbsp; Betty preceded him in death on December 13, 2018.&nbsp; Al then married Kaaren Lindberg on March 7, 2020.

He was a heavy equipment operator and worked for the City of Clay Center as the Street Commisioner until his retirement and then worked for Mel’s pump and plumbing for several years.

Al is also preceded in death by his parents and 12 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Kaaren Peck of Clay Center; daughter, Jeni Peck of Clay Center; son, Patrick Peck of West Plains, Missouri; stepson, Shane and wife, Jody Lunn of Willow Springs, Missouri; stepson, Royce and wife, Ashley Woodworth of Clay Center; stepdaughter, P. Ileene and husband, Dan Strauss of Riley; 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; and his sister, Betty Kelly of Pennsylvania.

A Memorial Celebration will be held from 3-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the First Baptist Church of Clay Center Fellowship Hall in Clay Center, Kansas.&nbsp; Military Honors will be rendered at 4:00 p.m.

Bailey Bruce Freeman was born October 30, 1981 in Hot Springs, South Dakota the son of Ted B. and Carol (Deer) Freeman. He passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022 near Chapman. He graduated from Osan American High School in Osan, Korea and was a Shipping and Receiving Manager for Exline in Salina. Bailey enjoyed watching sports, playing video games, watching NASCAR and spending time with his family. On October 25, 2014 Bailey was united in marriage to Rebekah Zundel. She survives of the home in Salina. Other survivors include his son Jaxson Freeman of the home, daughter Aubrianna Dillon of the home, his parents Ted and Carol Freeman of Chapman, brother Perry Freeman and his wife Aline of Chapman, sisters Amora Freeman-Floyd of Spanish Fork, Utah, TeAnn Linn and her husband Ricky of Beulah, North Dakota, Rebecca Freeman of Chapman, and his aunts, uncles, and cousins. Caroline H. Johnson

  Donald Martin Herbic of Alma, Kansas, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 23rd, 2022 at the awesome age of 83 years old. Better known as Don, Dad Don, Grandpa Don, and “Snake Hips,” Don was born in 1938 to Martin M., Jr. and Ida Berg Herbic. Don was one of nine siblings that he loved and adored: Ed, Elinor, Melvin, Lila, Vernon, Harold, Larry, and Ken. Brother Larry is the only surviving sibling. They were all playmates when he was a kid and had many wonderful memories growing up.

   Don and his siblings attended the Alma schools, and he graduated from high school in 1957. Don had many classmates and friends he loved and appreciated.

   Don was fortunate to have some Wonderful Sister- and Brother- (in-laws), too, including Larry’s wife Diana, Melvin’s wife Ruby, Vernon’s wife Belle, Harold’s partner Gloria, Elinor’s husband Ed Palenski, and Lila’s husband Jim Oliver.

   Dad and Grandpa Don really enjoyed his family including his Son Mark Donald, Son Galen and Daughter Teresa, and most especially, he loved his grandchildren including Chelsea Susanne Donnelly, Meyana Summer Herbic, Braxten Ray-Marcus Herbic, Nina and her husband Stan, and great-grandchildren Paul, Angelina, and Milana.

Don was baptized and confirmed at Peace E and R Church (now Peace United Church of Christ) on March 29, 1953 in Alma. He also attended the First Christian Church of Manhattan.

   Don served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1967, beginning his journey in Kansas City, MO, and then spending most of his time in Fort Eustis in Norfolk, Virginia. He participated in the Reserves at Fort Riley. He worked on large military trucks as a mechanic. He was decorated with awards including MKM Bad Rifle, SP SBAD CBN Mechanic Badge with Bar, and a Good Conduct Military Medal.

   Don loved the great outdoors, hunting and fishing, and spending time with his close circle of family and friends. He enjoyed helping farmers do small projects, chop wood, and do various chores and activities. He also loved being with family, visiting, and listening to country music.

   Don spent thirty years serving K -State University faithfully where he retired. There, Don served as the primary maintenance manager for Marlatt Hall where he also had a close circle of friends. Don lived in Manhattan over the years on Lincoln Drive with this family. That is where he first became a Dad and where he enjoyed neighbors and local friends. Still, his heart’s call was returning to his roots at the “home place” in Alma so when a country cabin became available just a mile away from where he was born, he quickly made the move to where he could experience the great outdoors.

   Don loved to get “aired out”. He was definitely a farm boy who appreciated everything about country life. You would often find him in a flannel shirt, Levi blue jeans, and a cap.

   He was content and sentimental. He loved Chevys and monarch butterflies, trees, creeks, ponds, and rivers. All of God's incredible creations.

Don was such an avid hunter that he accidentally but incredibly trapped and shot more than one bobcat. He also had a major face-off with a large mountain lion when hunting deer which made the newspaper! Don's brother Larry shared some fun stories about him and Don coon-hunting. You'll have to ask about that one. There was always humor in all of Don's adventures.

   Don wasn't much on technology, phones, and worldly things. He was more about simple things. And he was always an avid K-State fan loyal with true purple pride.

   Don made quite an impact on the Wroten House staff while in care there most recently. All of the nurses commented about his amazing personality and humor and that they loved him—also mentioning that he was the reason that lemonade was brought back to Wroten House. They had taken it off the menu, and Don commented several times that “it sure would be nice to have the lemonade back on the menu.” He said it enough that the staff took him seriously and decided to bring lemonade back for the entire facility. A special thank you to the Wroten House staff that Don loved including Elaina, Taylor, Crystal, Teresa, Brooke, Julie, Jennifer, Chelsea, Nick, previous nurse Rebecca, and various other Wroten staff members. Elaina was truly a gem to Dad as she had been Don’s caretaker at Bramlage and then Wroten House when he needed extra support. Family was with Don when he fell asleep soon after to be with Jesus, and Elaina was with him as he slept that night and took his final breath. We will never forget that kind of love, care, and dedication!

   Then, there are Stacy and Janet who were not only Don's home caretakers previously but also his very close friends. Dad had exceptional care with Heartland at Home Care, and he really loved Janet and Stacy’s company and appreciated their important friendship.

   Although Don had a setback with pneumonia, he was so strong until the very end. Don was especially fond of Reverend Dr. Patty Brown-Barnett who became his close friend while at Wroten House. She visited him often, talked with him as a great friend would, and prayed with him regularly, too. Reverend Patti prayed with us and asked us to say the Lord's Prayer together, and just after, Don said his final word which was “home.” From that point on Don was very comfortable and at peace until he went home to be with Jesus.

   Don was and always will be one of our all-time favorite, beloved people.

Donald Martin Herbic of Alma, Kansas, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 23rd, 2022 at the awesome age of 83 years old. Better known as Don, Dad Don, Grandpa Don, and “Snake Hips,” Don was born in 1938 to Martin M., Jr. and Ida Berg Herbic. Don was one of nine siblings that he loved and adored: Ed, Elinor, Melvin, Lila, Vernon, Harold, Larry, and Ken. Brother Larry is the only surviving sibling. They were all playmates when he was a kid and had many wonderful memories growing up. Don and his siblings attended the Alma schools, and he graduated from high school in 1957. Don had many classmates and friends he loved and appreciated. Don was fortunate to have some Wonderful Sister- and Brother- (in-laws), too, including Larry’s wife Diana, Melvin’s wife Ruby, Vernon’s wife Belle, Harold’s partner Gloria, Elinor’s husband Ed Palenski, and Lila’s husband Jim Oliver. Dad and Grandpa Don really enjoyed his family including his Son Mark Donald, Son Galen and Daughter Teresa, and most especially, he loved his grandchildren including Chelsea Susanne Donnelly, Meyana Summer Herbic, Braxten Ray-Marcus Herbic, Nina and her husband Stan, and great-grandchildren Paul, Angelina, and Milana. Daniel P. "Pat" Boller, 97, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, KS. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2022 at St. Xavier Catholic Church in Junction City. A rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to St. Xavier Catholic Church or to the Geary County Historical Society. Pat was born on November 25, 1924, the son of Raymond Charles and Marian Estelle (Hooper) Boller. Pat attend school in Geary County and graduated from St. Xavier's High School in 1942. He joined the Navy in September 1943 and served until November 1946. Pat served in Europe and Asia as a Radioman Second Class. He was a member of St. Xavier's church, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post #45. He served on the Humboldt School Board and the County Farm Bureau Board. He farmed in the Lower Clark Creek area on the family farm. On June 12, 1948, Pat married Dorothy Louise Burjes at St. Xavier's Church in Junction City, KS. Pat is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; four sons, Daniel J. (Pamela) Boller, Junction City, KS, Darryl M. Boller, Dwight C. (Sharon) Boller, Junction City, KS, Dennis W. Lois was born October 10, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois, and was the daughter of Ernest Byrd and Dorothy (Sellers) Byrd. She graduated from Phillips High School, class of 1976, in Chicago, Illinois. Lois married her high school sweetheart Patrick Kyles on May 20, 1977, whom she met while in 8th grade. They remained married for 44 years and 364 days, until the day Lois was called home just one day shy of their 45th wedding anniversary. Lois loved traveling, especially to Las Vegas, where she and Patrick celebrated their anniversary every year. Lois loved going on long road trips with Patrick and enjoyed seeing new things and enjoying the simple things in life. When home, she loved watching TV or movies (especially crime shows and horror movies), enjoying time with her beloved pets, going for morning walks, and simply being with family. Lois was a devoted military spouse and loving mother who was also beloved by those who knew her. She worked tirelessly serving soldiers and veterans throughout her nearly twenty-year career with the Army &amp; Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES). Ann (Cowan) Van Doren died of natural causes on May 7, 2022, at Via Christi Village in Manhattan, KS. She was 98 years old. Born Nelley Ann Cowan on October 10, 1923, in Kansas City, MO, to Austin Marcus Cowan, attorney at law and Dr. Edwina Abbott Cowan, Director and Clinical Psychologist of the Wichita Child Guidance Center. Raised in Wichita, KS, her childhood summers were spent camping in Colorado with family – a tradition she continued with her husband and children. In 1943 Ann met the love of her life, Claude Van Doren at Wichita State University. Ann has always been the type of person to get things done. When Claude left for the Navy Air Corps to fight in World War II, she decided to call his mother for his mailing address. She wanted to see more of him. Claude wrote Ann back and their courtship began. Once Claude returned from War, both he and Ann went to Kansas University. Ann earned a bachelor’s degree in 1946 and Claude completed a degree in architecture in 1950. They were married in 1947. Claude became a prominent Wichita architect who designed several buildings statewide. Ann’s involvement in her community is legendary. First as an Alpha Chi Omega member where she continued her service to her sorority by serving as alumnae president for the Wichita chapter. In 2000 she was named the Wichita Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega Alumna of the Year for her 50 years of service. Other nonprofits that received her gifts of time include numerous positions with the American Cancer Society of Sedgwick County (35 plus years), Wichita Town Talks (3 years), and Junior League of Wichita (56 years). She also served as president of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, taught Sunday School at Plymouth Congregational Church (10 years), volunteered at the Wichita Art Museum (10 years), and was an active member of University Congregational Church of Wichita. Between all of that, Ann kept busy raising four children. Later she worked at Wichita State University as the executive secretary to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for 15 years. After retiring in 1988, she volunteered at WSU as a test proctor for 15 plus years. Claude and Ann celebrated 35 years of marriage before his passing in 1982. Their children have many fond memories of their parents’ love for each other. One that happened often was their dancing in the den to the sounds of Perry Como on the record player after a hard day’s work. They enjoyed entertaining and once their children had grown, Ann and Claude continued filling the house with family and friends from Sunday dinners to the annual Van Doren Christmas party. Ann was also the coordinator of most if not all of the local Van Doren family reunions. She was a natural at bringing people together. In addition to her love of family, Ann was an incredible friend. She traveled to all 50 states together with four of her Alpha Chi Omega sisters. She also hosted weekly bridge for years and a monthly book club that lasted 35 years. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Austin M. Cowan, Esq. and Dr. Edwina A. Cowan, husband Claude A. Van Doren Jr., brothers Edwin and David Cowan, and sons Marc and Eric Van Doren. Survivors include her daughter Claudia Voos (Terry) of Manhattan, KS, son Kirk Van Doren of Wichita, KS, seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Wichita University Congregational Church, Friday, June 10th, at 10:30 AM. Ann will be laid to rest alongside her husband Claude at Maple Grove Cemetery in a private family ceremony. In 1943 Ann met the love of her life, Claude Van Doren at Wichita State University. Ann has always been the type of person to get things done. When Claude left for the Navy Air Corps to fight in World War II, she decided to call his mother for his mailing address. She wanted to see more of him. Claude wrote Ann back and their courtship began. Once Claude returned from War, both he and Ann went to Kansas University. Ann earned a bachelor’s degree in 1946 and Claude completed a degree in architecture in 1950. They were married in 1947. Claude became a prominent Wichita architect who designed several buildings statewide. Ann’s involvement in her community is legendary. First as an Alpha Chi Omega member where she continued her service to her sorority by serving as alumnae president for the Wichita chapter. In 2000 she was named the Wichita Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega Alumna of the Year for her 50 years of service. Other nonprofits that received her gifts of time include numerous positions with the American Cancer Society of Sedgwick County (35 plus years), Wichita Town Talks (3 years), and Junior League of Wichita (56 years). She also served as president of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, taught Sunday School at Plymouth Congregational Church (10 years), volunteered at the Wichita Art Museum (10 years), and was an active member of University Congregational Church of Wichita. Between all of that, Ann kept busy raising four children. Later she worked at Wichita State University as the executive secretary to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for 15 years. After retiring in 1988, she volunteered at WSU as a test proctor for 15 plus years. Claude and Ann celebrated 35 years of marriage before his passing in 1982. Their children have many fond memories of their parents’ love for each other. One that happened often was their dancing in the den to the sounds of Perry Como on the record player after a hard day’s work. They enjoyed entertaining and once their children had grown, Ann and Claude continued filling the house with family and friends from Sunday dinners to the annual Van Doren Christmas party. Ann was also the coordinator of most if not all of the local Van Doren family reunions. She was a natural at bringing people together. In addition to her love of family, Ann was an incredible friend. She traveled to all 50 states together with four of her Alpha Chi Omega sisters. She also hosted weekly bridge for years and a monthly book club that lasted 35 years. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Austin M. Cowan, Esq. and Dr. Edwina A. Cowan, husband Claude A. Van Doren Jr., brothers Edwin and David Cowan, and sons Marc and Eric Van Doren. Survivors include her daughter Claudia Voos (Terry) of Manhattan, KS, son Kirk Van Doren of Wichita, KS, seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Wichita University Congregational Church, Friday, June 10th, at 10:30 AM. Ann will be laid to rest alongside her husband Claude at Maple Grove Cemetery in a private family ceremony. Davanna "Dee" G. Justice, 61, of Woodbine, KS, passed away Saturday, May 21st, at the Via Christi Village, in Manhattan. She was a co-owner of Citywide Security in Topeka. Davanna G. Fletcher was born in Fort Worth, Texas on January 4, 1961, the daughter of the late Linda and Charles Fletcher. She was formerly married to Willard A. LeRoy Henry Schweir, 88, of McFarland, Kansas, passed away on Sunday (May 15, 2022) in McFarland.

Born September 20, 1933 in Belvue, Kansas,&nbsp; LeRoy was the son of Henry P. and Lillie (Heine) Schweir.

LeRoy was a 1951 graduate of Alma High School. &nbsp;He joined the Army on October 12, 1954 and served in Germany until his discharge on November 23, 1956.

An avid fisherman and deer hunter, LeRoy’s passion was working on his farm and raising steers.

Survivors include three nephews, Paul Schweir of Maple Hill, KS, Wayne Schweir (Dedra) of Belvue, KS and Kenneth Schweir of Wamego, KS;&nbsp; one great niece and two great nephews; and a sister in law, Gertrude Schweir of Belvue, KS.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lawrence Schweir; and two nieces, Karen Rezac and Donna Jean Schweir.

Private family services will be held.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Peace United Church of Christ Cemetery in Alma.

Gary Lewis Zeit, 74, of Wheaton, Kansas, died Saturday, May 21, 2022, at his home, following a short battle with liver disease. Gary was born on November 12, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri and was raised by Joe and Julia (Thrift) Zeit in Denton, Kansas.

Gary was a 1965 graduate of Midway High School. In 1966 he joined the United States Navy which included a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Gary married Judy A (Medsker) in 1968, in Troy, Kansas. They raised their two daughters, Heather and Heidi in Denton, Kansas and then moved to Arkansas in 1997. Gary and Judy later divorced in 2006.

In 2007, Gary met Kay Umscheid and they were married January 21, 2011, in Topeka. Gary then began his life with his “Special” Kay and her two daughters Amanda (Mandi) and Ashley Umscheid.

Gary was an over-the-road truck driver for 40 years. He worked for a variety of trucking companies including Midwest Grain Products, Keim Trucking, Koch Trucking and Capitol City Oil, just to name a few. He retired from trucking in 2017.

In Gary’s spare time he could be found either at the lake fishing, cooking up his catch, or if not there, he was probably smoking some meat on his smoker. Gary took a high interest in BBQ competition later in life. He and Kay competed in competitions which turned into their own GK’QUE BBQ Food Truck/Catering Business. Unfortunately, COVID made it difficult for them to continue with the catering business. Gary had every intention to continue however his health started to decline. Gary was a social butterfly and enjoyed creating many friendships near and far over the years. He was a Lifetime member of the VFW and served as Quartermaster of the local chapter for several years.

Survivors include his wife Kay, of the home; his daughters Heather (Nathan) Larimer, Rogers, Arkansas; Heidi Johnson; Atchison, Mandi (Nathan) Taylor, Paxico, and Maddie (Justin) Johnson, Platte City, Missouri; his three grandchildren, Alex Zeit, Sydney and Cameron Johnson; and one Great-Granddaughter, Nora McCain. His is also survived by his brother David (Nita) Zeit, Fairview, sister-in-law Janice Zeit, Denton, his sister Marcia (Ben) Cerra, Kansas City; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Gary is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Julia Zeit, brother, Dick Zeit, sister, JoAnn Burke and her husband, Elwood, daughter, Ashley Umscheid, and brother, Bill Gullett.

Carole F. Troy, age 83, a longtime Ogden resident, died May 19, 2022, at Stoneybrook Retirement Community in Manhattan. Carole was born August 16, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Elmer D. and Florence M. (Blattner) Russell. She was married to John Edward Troy on April 21, 1956, at St. Daniel the Prophet Catholic Church in Chicago, IL. John preceded her in death on July 22, 1993. Carole was an excellent mother and grandmother and loved taking care of her family and everyone in Ogden was considered her family. Following John’s death she worked at the Subway on Ogden for many years. She also was very patriotic and volunteered for all patriotic activities. She also served many funeral luncheons, was a Cub Scout leader, loved to dance and was a huge Elvis fan. Carole was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ogden, American Legion Auxiliary, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Life Member. Survivors include six children: Michael Troy of Manhattan, Martin Troy and his wife Cheri of Las Vegas, NV, Mark Troy and his wife Becky of Jackson, MO, Monica Meredith and her husband John of Plattsmouth, NE, Mary Troy of Ogden, KS, and Melanie McLochlin and her husband John of Plattsmouth, NE; one sister Joan Carlson of Orland Park, IL; daughter in law Janet Troy of Ogden; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Hamilton Kay Heldstab, 94, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Brookdale Assisted Living. A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church with Associate Pastor Will Ravenstein officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the First United Methodist Church or Accord Hospice. Kay was born March 25, 1928, in Junction City, KS, the son of Walter Hamilton and Mayme Irene (King) Heldstab. Kay graduated from the Junction City High School with the class of 1946. After his graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corp where he served on the U.S.S. Topeka. After serving in the United States Marine Corp he attended trade school for refrigeration. He worked for Sears and Roebuck Company for sixteen years. He opened Heldstab Appliance in 1971 and continued working until 1991. After his retirement, he owned and operated Antique Junction Antique Mall with his wife Marilyn. Kay was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in Junction City. At the time of his death, he was the longest standing member of the church. He was a long time member of the Sertoma Club. Kay also did a lot of volunteer work in the Junction City Community including the Geary County Historical Society and the Opera House Foundation. Kay married Marilyn Marie Burbank January 13, 1952. Marilyn passed away December 16, 2016. Eleanor A. Miller, 86, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at her residence in Junction City. Cremation will take place. No memorial service is planned. She was the daughter of Geraldine F. Swenson. Eleanor worked as a staffing specialist for the United States Government at Fort Riley for many years. She graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1953. She was an avid collector and animal lover. She married Mike Miller May 1, 2000 in Eureka Springs, AR. Survivors include her husband Mike of the home in Junction City; one son, Tim Bridges of Massillon, OH; two step-sons, Mark Miller of Manhattan, KS and Chris Miller of Lenexa, KS; two step-daughters, Suzy Kells of Manhattan, KS and Nancy LaCrosse of Lawrence, KS; thirteen combined grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the daughter of Geraldine F. Swenson. Eleanor worked as a staffing specialist for the United States Government at Fort Riley for many years. She graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1953. She was an avid collector and animal lover. She married Mike Miller May 1, 2000 in Eureka Springs, AR. Survivors include her husband Mike of the home in Junction City; one son, Tim Bridges of Massillon, OH; two step-sons, Mark Miller of Manhattan, KS and Chris Miller of Lenexa, KS; two step-daughters, Suzy Kells of Manhattan, KS and Nancy LaCrosse of Lawrence, KS; thirteen combined grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother Geraldine F. Swenson.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Eleanor A. "Ellie" Miller 

Phyllis Loie (Woellhof) Hartner&nbsp;(Feb. 3, 1929 – May 18, 2022) died peacefully in her sleep in the early morning.&nbsp; Phyllis was born at home in Oak Hill, Kansas to Ezra and Grace (Ford) Woellhof, the middle and only girl of five children.&nbsp; She grew up on her family farm and graduated from Clay County Community High School in 1947.

Following the end of WWII, she caught the eye of a handsome, local returning GI, and they soon became a couple.&nbsp; On Oct. 4, 1947, she married the love of her life, Roy Hartner, at her parents’ home, on the hottest day of the year.&nbsp; After a honeymoon trip through the Southwest, they settled in Clay County where they spent the next 18 years farming and growing their family.&nbsp; In 1965, they left farming and moved to Boulder, Colorado.

Away from the farming life, they had the opportunity to spend more time doing the things they loved.&nbsp; While Phyllis worked much of her life, often in jobs that showcased her excellent sewing skills, she and Roy spent many days hiking, camping and off-roading in the mountains around Boulder.&nbsp; Her love of travel was obvious to everyone who knew her.&nbsp; During their 67-year marriage, they traveled to all 50 states, Canada, Mexico and Europe.&nbsp; In later years, they took off in their motorhome to travel around the US helping build churches through the Laborers for Christ program of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod.

While her church was very important to her, her family was the light of her life.&nbsp; After retirement, she and Roy moved to Loveland, CO in 1999, to be closer to their grandchildren.&nbsp; She was a doting grandma, always welcoming arrivals with fresh baked chocolate chip cookies.&nbsp; Never one to sit around, she was always ready to lend a hand wherever needed.&nbsp; Her grandchildren will forever fondly remember her color themed Christmas trees, her love of Precious Moments figurines and her signature “sh, sh, sh” whenever things got too loud. &nbsp;&nbsp;Two years after Roy’s death in 2015, she moved to Longmont, CO, where she spent her final days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Gwain and Melvin, an infant brother, Richard, and her beloved husband, Roy.&nbsp; She is survived by her sons Rick (Rosemary) and Daryl Hartner, daughter Trudy (Mike) Loucks, grandchildren Marianne (Jeff) Hartner-Godown, Auliya McCauley-Hartner, Talia (Pete) Damrow, Hailey, Wilson and Joely Loucks, great-granddaughter Reina Damrow, brothers Truman (Leona) and Eldon Woellhof and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home on Mon. May 23 at 1:30 pm with internment following at Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas.&nbsp;

Roberta M. Lenhart, 86, of Clay Center died Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor.&nbsp; She was born on December 24, 1935 in Brewster, Kansas the daughter of Bert Gallup and Agnes (Sprague-Hollenbeck) Gallup.

She grew up in Clay Center and graduated from CCCHS in 1954.&nbsp; Roberta then worked for Dr. Shepard and later she worked for Clay Center Family Physicians until her retirement.&nbsp; She married Ralph Dageforde on November 25, 1956 and he preceded her in death on January 1, 1997.&nbsp; She then married Willard Lenhart on April 3, 1998.&nbsp; Roberta enjoyed playing golf and traveling with her husband around the U.S., Australia, Canada and Europe.

Roberta was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School and week day teacher.

She is preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Logan Dageforde and brother, Bill Hollenbeck.

She is survived by her husband, Willard Lenhart of Clay Center, Kansas; sons, David and wife, Carla Dageforde of Pratville, Alabama and Gregory and wife, Susan Dageforde of Tallassee, Alabama; stepsons, Bill and wife, Barb Lenhart of Clifton, Kansas, Walt Lenhart of Clifton, Kansas and Wayne and wife, Diane Lenhart of Clay Center, Kansas; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and her brother, Lon and wife Mary Ann Gallup of Castle Rock, Colorado.

Wesley L. Stotler, age 79, of Manhattan, died May 13, 2022 at the Stoneybrook Retirement Community in Manhattan.Wes was born on June 9, 1942, in Dodge City, Kansas, the son of Lee and Myrtle Stotler. His family moved to Newton, Kansas in 1946. He attended schools in Newton and graduate with the Newton High School class of 1960. Wes then attended Hutchinson Community College and then Pittsburg State Teachers College. He also attended Kansas State University, where he earned his Master’s Degree. He served in the Army Reserves and was Honorably Discharged in 1971. On September 6, 1964 he was united in marriage to Nancy Marrs. She survives at their home in Manhattan. Wes taught drafting technology at the Manhattan Area Technical School from 1970 until 1998. He then went to work for the Riley County Public Works from 2000 until 2010. Wes was a history buff and loved to spend time reading a good book. He loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren and being part of their activities as much as he could. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gus and his son Doug. In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by his daughters, Robin Horn (Kenny) and Anna Fordyce (Troy); grandchildren: John, Katelyn, and Julia Horn, and Jacob, Bonnie, and Caleb Fordyce, and his great-grandchild, Jamie Horn. The family will greet friends at 10:00 a.m. Friday May 27 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home. At 10:45 a.m. a procession will be formed to go to the cemetery. Annie M. Guilmett (nee: Carlson), O’Fallon MO, passed away April 18, 2022, at age 91. She was married to Francis Guilmett who preceded her in 1992. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Ida Carlson; loving mother of Dean Guilmett (Karen); loving grandmother of Brian and Robert F Guilmett (Randdi); loving great grandmother of Astrid, Alivia and Robert D Guilmett; dear sister of the late Ella Mae Dickson (Robert), the late Elaine Ney (Merl) and the late John Carlson (Ruth Ann); dear aunt to Dennis Dickson (Kathleen), Kay Lynn Jacob (the late Gene), Cleo Hanna (Michael), Walter Ney (Linda) and Eric Ney (Jennifer). Marjorie Cecile Fleagle was born July 29, 1923, in Orlando, Oklahoma to Alta and Cecil Falen.&nbsp; Marjorie grew up in Dillon, Kansas and graduated from Hope High school in 1941. She passed from this life to a heavenly one on May 17, 2022.

She was married to Lester Fleagle in Dale, Alabama in 1943 until his death in 1990. They lived and raised their family in Abilene Kansas Survived by daughters, Marjorie Rae Huse, Abilene, KS, Linda Marcotte, (Dan Steele) Midwest City OK, and Sharon Taplin and husband Mike of Longford KS. Also survived by two grandchildren, Tammy Winters (Robert) and Chuck Huse, great grandchildren Lindsay Moore (Austin), Emily Rittgers, Madeline Tuba (Mikey), Shane Huse, Daniel C. Huse, Tiffany Huse and Jacob Huse and great great granddaughter, Isabella Moore.

She was preceded in death by her parents Cecil and Alta Falen, her husband, Lester Fleagle, brother Calvin Falen , son Gerald Fleagle, grandson Daniel D. Huse.

Marjorie was a homemaker, volunteer for many organizations including leading a bible study at Village Manor nursing home for many years and the Mary Martha group at First Christian Church. In the 1970 and 1980s, she worked at Brown Memorial Home.

Marjorie was a member of First Christian Church Abilene, Kansas for over seventy years. Her kind, gentle loving spirit and sound advice often expressed through humor helped many people over the years. All of her children knew how lucky they were to have her for a mother and over the years there many who wished she was their Mom. In recent years, she lived at Abilene Place. The family would like to express thanks to the staff there who provided loving care.

Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 21st at First Christian Church. Visitation on Friday, May 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Martin Becker Carlson Abilene, Kansas. Final resting place at Ashton Cemetery, rural Hope, Kansas.
