Eddie K. Lutz, 84, of Manhattan, passed away on Friday, July 9th, at the Valley Vista, Good Samaritan Society – Wamego long-term care facility. Eddie was born on August 10, 1936 in Manhattan, KS, the son of Martha Lorena (Prestwood) Lutz and William John Lutz. He was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers: Billy Lutz, Bob Lutz, John Lutz, one Sister-in-Law, Rita (Sanders) Lutz, two brothers-in-law: Bill Gregg and Rudy Kramer, two nieces, Kay (Kramer) Cain and Jeanie (Gregg) Lowe, and four nephews Randy Skinner, Steve Norton, Marshall Stewart, and Joe Cain. He is survived by his two sisters, Betty (Lutz) Kramer, Berris “Pooch” (Lutz) Gregg and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and their families. Eddie was known by all as a hard worker. He joined the Walters Construction Company right out of high school and quickly rose from his start as a general laborer through the ranks as an equipment operator, foreman, and retired as a project superintendent for the Walters Morgan Construction company. Eddie was highly respected in the company and was responsible for overseeing some of the company's major construction projects throughout the region. Eddie deeply loved his family and sports of all kinds. He had K-State season football tickets through all the lean years and enjoyed taking others with him to games. He had an almost photographic memory of games and players and loved to talk about sports with family and friends. He followed and supported the athletic careers of his nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews and loved being part of family celebrations of all types. He had a strong sense of justice and fairness, strong opinions, and would do unexpected things to help those in need. He was a good and loyal friend and cared deeply for others. A "Home Going Celebration" will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 14th at the Carlson’s Irvin Parkview funeral home with Rev. Jay Bessmer officiating. The family will begin to gather and receive friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at the Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan. Paul Anthony Roggenkamp, age 84, of Wheaton, Kansas, passed away at Community Healthcare Systems in Onaga, Kansas on Saturday, July 10th, 2021 after a courageously fought battle with numerous strokes.

Paul was born on May 20, 1937, in Wamego, Kansas, the youngest of three brothers and three sisters. He was the son of Otto and Fina Maskil Roggenkamp. He attended Pleasant Hill Rural Grade School and graduated from Wheaton High School.

On June 10th, 1972, he was united in marriage to Lois McNeilly at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in Salina, Kansas. She survives at their farm in Wheaton, Kansas. Paul and Lois raised their family in Paul’s childhood home. He spent almost fifty years dedicating his life to dairy farming and raising a family. He built and designed one of the first pipeline milk barns in the area for his Grade A dairy. He was an active member of Mid-America Dairymen and the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. He also managed a Hereford beef cattle operation.

Paul loved music and one of his favorite hobbies was dancing. He especially enjoyed dancing with his bride of almost 50 years at local wedding dances over the years. His greatest love was for his family and to see them happy. Paul was great at telling jokes and making his family laugh. He enjoyed planning parties for family events and would spend a lot of time planning the details of those parties on his favorite stationary, a paper plate. He carefully reviewed each party and jotted down suggestions for improvements for the next party. Even after he suffered complications from several strokes, he would welcome his children with open arms and loved for them to return home. Paul’s other hobbies included: gardening, creating original recipes, smoking sausage, carpentry (he built his own sawmill), listening to music, singing, and playing the ukulele. Paul was very active, loved the outdoors, and spent as little time as possible indoors.

For many years, Paul was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Wheaton, Kansas and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lillis, Kansas until their closings. He then joined St. Columbkille Parish in Blaine, Kansas. He served as a lector and parish council member. He attended mass regularly in spite of mobility issues, until his health prevented him from attending in person.

In addition to his wife, Lois, Paul is survived by five children: Amy Roggenkamp, Topeka, Kansas; Steve Roggenkamp (Becky), Onaga, Kanas; Marcie Matzke (Brent), Westmoreland, Kansas; David Roggenkamp (Jennifer), Easton, Kansas; and Katie Lynch (Mike), Wichita, Kansas. Paul is also survived by ten grandchildren: Claire Matzke, Trevor Matzke, Violet Matzke, Alice Matzke, Brayden Roggenkamp, Blayke Roggenkamp, Evlynn Roggenkamp, Max Lynch, Nora Lynch, and Finn Roggenkamp. Geraldine Keating, Albuquerque, New Mexico, is Paul’s one remaining sibling.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Paul will be held on Monday, July 19, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Blaine, Kansas. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Wheaton, Kansas. There will be a visitation on Sunday, July 18th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and a Rosary prayer service at 7:00 p.m.&nbsp; Memorials are suggested to the Paul Roggenkamp Memorial Fund to be designated later by the family, and those may be sent in care of Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Linda Louise (Ayers) Foster, 65, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021 after a long battle of COPD and lung cancer.

 Linda was born on September 27, 1955 to William Carson and Thelma Rose  Ayres in Arkansas. As a child, she excelled in many sports, especially basketball. After graduating from Hill City, Kansas High School in 1973 she was awarded a basketball scholarship to Colby Community College. She was an excellent cook and pursued that as her lifetime career. She took several classes and became a certified baker. Linda was known to make the best homemade cinnamon rolls around. Linda served as a baker and cook at school and at McPherson Hospital where she retired 18 months ago. Linda loved to bake her famous cinnamon rolls, to play bingo, thoroughly enjoyed scratching lottery tickets for winners, enjoyed being with people, and being at her children and grandchildren’s sporting events which she seldom missed. She was also a big KU fan. Her kindness to others will always be remembered.

 She is preceded in death by her father; three sisters, Lucille, Shirley, Brenda; and four brothers, Larry, Jerry, Alvin, and Kenny Ayers. She is survived by her mother, Thelma Ayers; brother and his wife, Kim and Lana Ayers; four sons, Brian Billinger of Newton, Bradley Billinger of Canton, Kansas, Brent Billinger of Canton, Kansas, Christopher Billinger of Herington, Kansas; two daughters, Brandy Gutierrez of Great Bend, Kansas and Krystal Billinger of McPherson, Kansas; 11 grandchildren.

Willis’ life began on February 11, 1941, in the Hillsboro Hospital.  He was the son of Curtis R. and Winifred (Nansen) Peterson.  Willis was in the first graduating class of Centre High School (1959). He played football and was in the band.  He continued his education at Kansas State University where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity (Alpha Iota Chapter) and Army ROTC. Willis graduated in 1964 with a degree in Milling Technology.  Willis operated the Cargill Mill in Wichita for 15 plus years and previously, he worked in the oil fields.

  Farming his land was his true calling and during his working life he commuted 80 miles each way nearly every day to be able to live on his farm. After retiring in 2004 from Cargill Mill he continued to farm in Morris and Marion County. He was a member Hebron Lutheran Church in Burdick and also attended Aulne Church. Willis enjoyed collecting agricultural antiques.  He was united in marriage to the former Karyn “Sue” Glenn on July 3, 2004, at Marion County Lake.

  His loving family includes his wife Sue of Marion, children Daine (Kat) Peterson of Hillsboro, Curtis (Marcy) Peterson of Holcomb, and Troy (Chris) Peterson of Lincolnville; grandchildren Amanda, Dakota, Cheyenne, Avery, Ty, Jon, Sydnee, Jakob, Nick, Emilee, Tucker, Michael, Sabrina, Brandon, Taylor, Hannah and Grace; several great grandchildren; his twin brother Warren Peterson of Sedona, AZ and niece and nephew Sam and Katie. Willis will also be missed by his beloved fur babies Zoey, Suzy and Pia.  Willis was preceded in death by his beloved infant son, David Joel and his faithful dog Bobby.

  His family will gather with friends for his memorial service on Saturday July 17th at 10 a.m. in the Marion County Lake Shelter House on the East Side of the lake. James was born October 18, 1934 in Hooker, OK. the son of William Wesley and Edith Vance (Dungan) Nelson. James came to Junction City in 1982 as the vice-president and cashier at First National Bank. After his retirement at the bank, he worked for Gfeller Accounting Firm and later at Willhoite's, Inc. John Deere and Buick Dealerships in Junction City, KS. He also worked for Hettenbach and Langdon in Abilene, KS. James graduated from the University of Wichita and became a Certified Public Accountant. James served his country serving in the United States Army Reserves for seven years. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Abilene. Over the years, he did a lot of work with local theatre in Wichita and Junction City. He was a history buff and avid reader who enjoyed traveling visiting historical places. He married Phyllis Vogt June 24, 1966 in Wichita, KS. He is survived by his wife Phyllis of the home in Junction City; one son, Kelly Nelson and his wife Michelle of Kingston, GA; one grandson, Jesse Nelson and his wife Nikki of Woodstock, GA; one granddaughter, Jamie Nelson of Kingston, GA; one great-grandson, Nathan Nelson; numerous nephews and nieces. Delores Jean "D" Daymude - 1936 - 2021

Ethel Dolores Hurtig Gowdy was born on September 23, 1932 in Delphos, Kansas. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 8, 2021 in Lansing, Kansas. Her father was Alfred Frank Hurtig of Delphos, Kansas and her mother was Vida Lillian Durst, also of Delphos, Kansas. She grew up and worked helping her mother on her parents’ wheat and cattle farm. As a 9-year old she survived the tornado of May 31, 1942 with her family in their storm shelter. She attended Delphos (KS) High School where she graduated in the class of 1950. There she met and became friends with Kenneth King Gowdy, who eventually became her husband. He worked for her father in the summers during wheat harvest on a custom combining crew. Dolores attended Kansas State College (now University) from 1950-1954 receiving her B.A. degree in Home Economics and during her life she filled her home with her talents. She was also a member of the Sigma Chi sorority. Dolores and Kenneth were married in the Methodist Church in Delphos, Kansas on August 24, 1952. They became the loving parents of four children: John David, Elizabeth Ann, Michael King, and Mark Alan. Family time took a priority and holidays we were often spent with relatives, as well as regular summer vacations to Colorado. After their children we were grown, Ken &amp; Dolores enjoyed traveling together, especially to Vancouver, British Columbia and to Ireland. They also collected many antiques. Dolores spent many years as a Girl Scout Leader in Manhattan, Kansas and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She loved to quilt and to bake. She also enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. Her favorite times and memories were made on holidays and visits gathering with her family and relatives. As a devoted and beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend she will be greatly missed. She is survived by two sons, David (Norlene) and Mark. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth, her brothers William Hurtig and Armon Hurtig, her son Michael, and her daughter Elizabeth. She has eleven grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. Ethel Dolores Hurtig Gowdy was born on September 23, 1932 in Delphos, Kansas. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 8, 2021 in Lansing, Kansas. Her father was Alfred Frank Hurtig of Delphos, Kansas and her mother was Vida Lillian Durst, also of Delphos, Kansas. She grew up and worked helping her mother on her parents’ wheat and cattle farm. As a 9-year old she survived the tornado of May 31, 1942 with her family in their storm shelter. She attended Delphos (KS) High School where she graduated in the class of 1950. There she met and became friends with Kenneth King Gowdy, who eventually became her husband. He worked for her father in the summers during wheat harvest on a custom combining crew. Dolores attended Kansas State College (now University) from 1950-1954 receiving her B.A. degree in Home Economics and during her life she filled her home with her talents. She was also a member of the Sigma Chi sorority. Dolores and Kenneth were married in the Methodist Church in Delphos, Kansas on August 24, 1952. They became the loving parents of four children: John David, Elizabeth Ann, Michael King, and Mark Alan. Family time took a priority and holidays we were often spent with relatives, as well as regular summer vacations to Colorado. After their children we were grown, Ken &amp; Dolores enjoyed traveling together, especially to Vancouver, British Columbia and to Ireland. They also collected many antiques. Dolores spent many years as a Girl Scout Leader in Manhattan, Kansas and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She loved to quilt and to bake. She also enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. Her favorite times and memories were made on holidays and visits gathering with her family and relatives. As a devoted and beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend she will be greatly missed. She is survived by two sons, David (Norlene) and Mark. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth, her brothers William Hurtig and Armon Hurtig, her son Michael, and her daughter Elizabeth. She has eleven grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. A visitation will be held for family and friends at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Ave, Manhattan, KS 66502 on Thursday evening, July 15th from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.. Brach and Sons and then also at the Sunbeam Corporation, then the United States Gypsum Company all in Chicago. She was a secretary and supervisor in many different roles with those companies. On April 6, 1963 she was united in marriage to Stuart E. Swartz. He survives at their home in Manhattan. They adopted 2 children, Johnny and Christy. She and Stuart came to Manhattan, when Stuart accepted a position at Kansas State University. Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church in Manhattan. She served on many church boards and was also a chairman and secretary of the Church Circle. Also, while at the church and teaching preschool she wrote many stories about the kids, they were used for the church newsletter, keeping the church updated on the preschool. Doris taught vacation Bible School and she attended many Christian Education workshops. She volunteered for many positions, at the St. Joseph Senior Community, as a 4-H Instructor, Girls Scout and Brownie Leader, the Pioneer Girls Leader, and in many areas at the schools in Manhattan in addition to being a Title 1 Aide at Bluemont Elementary, she also was a crossing guard for a period of time. Doris loved to take care of, teach, and watch kids learn. She was preceded in death by her two brothers and one sister. Doris is survived by her husband Stuart and her son Johnny of Manhattan, and her daughter Christy Harris (Cameron) of Perth, Australia, and her granddaughter Adeline Harris. Martha Elaine Onek Biesenthal, age 91, was called to her heavenly home on July 7, 2021 at the Good Shepherd Home Care and Hospice of Manhattan.

Martha was born on November 8, 1929, just north of Hiawatha, Kansas. She was the first of five children born to George and Dorothy Fiegenbaum-Onek. On November 17, 1929. God adopted Martha as His own when she was baptized by the Rev. A.H. Kerstner at their home. She was confirmed in her Christian faith on April 2, 1944, at Zion Lutheran Church of Hiawatha. She once remarked how much she loved Catechism and Sunday School and how central it was to their family life. She later became a member ofSt. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Wheaton, Kansas.

Martha began her education at Central Elementary School in Hiawatha where her favorite subject was reading. She would comment that she did not go to the movies, she went to the library. She loved to read her entire life, reading avidly into her 80’s, encouraging her children and grandchildren to also read. She graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1947. During high school Martha worked at a small restaurant owned by friends from their church. Later she was employed at the Telephone Company and at Bierer’s Clothing Store, assisting women in their clothing selections.

She once shared that she prayed that God would send her a Christian man. God answered her prayer when Cleason Biesenthal came to Hiawatha from Wheaton, to attend a play with several of his friends. His friends both had girlfriends at the time and Cleason tagged along. After that evening, Cleason also had a girlfriend in Hiawatha and he and Martha eventually married on October 18, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church. They settled into their home south of Wheaton where they worked together for 58 years. Together with their children, Mary, Jane, David, Ruth, and Frederick they earned their living through farming, raising hogs, operating a dairy, and raising beef cattle. Over the years Martha dressed innumerable chickens, learned how to peel potatoes in record speed and made some of the best homemade cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls that you have ever eaten.

When Cleason passed in 2008, Martha chose to remain on the farm near Wheaton and lived there until she moved to Vintage Park Assisted Living in Wamego in 2016. Those who knew Martha will recall her sense of humor, it was one that you would never forget, and would sometimes make you blush. She took life in stride and used her sense of humor to face the challenges in her life. Martha’s door was always open to a neighbor, friend or stray animal who needed a friendly smile or a warm hug.

William “Bill” Elroy Nelson, 83, of Wamego, Kansas, peacefully passed away on July 7, 2021, at Wellsprings of Westmoreland.

Bill was born March 4, 1938, in Yakama, Washington, the son of Cecil William and Eldilita Mae (Henn) Nelson. Bill attended Randolph High School until he left and joined the Marine Corps where he served for four years.

Bill married Vivian O’Neal and the couple later divorced. That union was blessed with one son, William “Billy” Nelson. Bill was married to Mary Lou (Prockish) Bammes on July 2, 1987, in Westmorland. She preceded him in death on November 7, 2015.

Bill spent many years on the road as an over-the-road trucker and worked locally for Steel &amp; Pipe. He also operated, for many years, heavy equipment and drove for MCM of Wamego.

He loved music and was an avid Elvis, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Cash fan. He enjoyed cooking, playing cards, throwing horseshoes, and collecting classic car replicas and John Wayne memorabilia.

Bill was also preceded in death by his father in 1971; his mother in 2005; his daughter, Patti Nelson, in 2013, and grandson, Casey Nelson in 2018.

Bill is survived by his son, William “Billy” D. Nelson (Dianna); Krugerville, Texas; his stepdaughters, Sherry Figge (Rex) and Karry Clark (Kevin), both of Wamego; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers: Cecil Nelson (Sharon), Madill, OK; Clarence Nelson (Winnie), Columbia Falls, Maine; sisters, Dorothy Etienne (John), Barbara Taggart (Phil), all of Wamego, Lennie Nelson (Peggy), Kansas City, MO; and Jan Uithoven, Blackhawk, SD; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Vera Roberta Ross, 78, of Wamego, Kansas, died Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at the Via Christi Health Center in Manhattan. She was a long-time resident of the community.

Vera was born on June 30, 1943, in Axtell, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Thomas Sunnenberg. She attended catholic school and graduated in 1961 in Baileyville.

Vera worked for several years as a CNA in both hospitals and nursing homes. She also worked for Hy-Vee Supermarket. She loved working with the customers and was known for her friendliness. Vera loved to play Bingo and go to the casino. She was always willing to go shopping or to a garage sale. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed being a part of their lives. Vera was an avid KU fan. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. Vera never knew a stranger. She enjoyed visiting and was always willing to lend a hand to someone who needed her. Bringing someone food or sending a card was common practice for her. Vera had a heart of gold. Vera married Thomas Lee Harcrow in 1965. They were later divorced. On August 10, 1975, Vera Married Kenneth Ross in Wamego. He survives at their home.

Lloyd Florence went home on July 4, 2021. He was born May 20, 1946 in Junction City, Kansas, the son of George and Alice (Horne) Florence.&nbsp;

Lloyd was a veteran who served his country from 1965 – 1969 in the submarine service. He was a cook.

He married Marlene Hill in 1967; they had 54 wonderful years together.&nbsp;&nbsp;Lloyd enjoyed his museum and passing his knowledge of history to others. He loved visiting with and helping his many friends and family.

Lloyd Florence went home on July 4, 2021. He was born May 20, 1946 in Junction City, Kansas, the son of George and Alice (Horne) Florence.&nbsp;Lloyd was a veteran who served his country from 1965 – 1969 in the submarine service. He was a cook.He married Marlene Hill in 1967; they had 54 wonderful years together.&nbsp;&nbsp;Lloyd enjoyed his museum and passing his knowledge of history to others. Rev. Dr. Maliepule Tauala, 77 from Ta'u, Manu'a of American Samoa took his last breath on 23 June 2021 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born to Fa'aga (Mother) and Peteru (Father) Tauala on 23 September 1943. Maliepule lived a life of service not only to his beautiful island of Samoa and it's people, his beloved Family and Friends but also his faithful service in Christ. He was a graduate of the California Graduate School of Theology in Anaheim, California earning his Ph.D in the categories of Doctor's of Philosophy and Divinity for ministry. He served as the Pastor for the Congregational Christian Church (CCCSA) in Taputimu American Samoa, as well as the Associate Pastor for the Congregational Christian Church (CCCAS) in Ta'u Manu'atele, American Samoa. He was the Director for the Youth and Sunday School of the District in Manu'atele and the Senior Advisor for the village of Ta'u for their Youth and Sunday School program. Maliepule was a member of the village of Luma, Ta'u Manu'atele's Choir. He was the Director for the Samoan Culture and World History at Manu'atele High School in Ta'u, Manu'atele. He was the Senior Advisor of the National Honor Society at Manu'atele High School from 2004 to 2005. He retired in 2017 after serving as the Program Director for the Community Service's Division in the Department of Education (DOE) in American Samoa. He was a Culltural Advisor and a greatly sought out Family Historian. He was a great fisherman and the best farmer in Ta'u, Manu'atele. His favorite sport was Golf and he played in many tournaments to include bowling. He loved the Lord, his Family and is very proud to be Manu'atele for life. On 17 May 1971, he married Fetoa'i Allen of Aua, American Samoa in Oceanside California at the Assembly of God sanctuary. Maliepule Tauala is survived by his spouse Mrs. Fetoa'i Tauala; Daughter's Mrs. Lupeolefoaga Fa'afouina Manuatu and Mrs. Jeannie Selau Jones; Son, Siautafu Mike Tauala and the multitude of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jay Dee Siebert, age 74, of Manhattan, Kansas, died June 3, 2021, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan. He was born January 20, 1947, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Waldo Peter and Minnie Martha (Regier) Siebert. Dr. Siebert blended a passion for science and education, a love of travel and an interest in agriculture and the environment into a research and teaching career. He made environmental science and agricultural sustainability accessible to an audience of students and farmers stretching from Fort Riley, Kansas to southern, central and west Africa. Jay graduated from high school in Hutchinson, earned a bachelor’s degree from Tabor College, a Master of Science in plant breeding and agronomy from Kansas State University and a Ph.D. in plant genetics from the University of Georgia. In between his graduate studies, he lived and worked in Brussels, Belgium, and in the country now known as the Democratic Republic of Congo. He and his wife Jabou moved with their family to Botswana and Senegal before returning to Kansas where he continued teaching for many years. Jay spent the last portion of this career in Nigeria teaching and researching Environmental Science. He retired to Manhattan in 2017. Jay loved to travel, spend time with his family and was an avid bird watcher. Survivors include his four children: Amiekole Siebert and her husband Douglas McQuery of New York, NY, Aisha Siebert and her husband Raul Salinas of Chicago, IL, Michael Siebert of Seattle, WA, and Christopher Siebert of Brooklyn, NY; one granddaughter Aida Salinas; and two siblings: Mary Siebert of Houston, TX, and Richard Siebert of Hutchinson, KS. Damien is survived by his mother, Patricia Wertzberger (Bud Wheeler) of Scottsdale, AZ; his father, Frederick Robert (Bob) Bramlage (Theresa Bramlage) of Junction City, KS; his handsome, and yet quite beautiful, 12 year old twin sons, Maximus John Bramlage and Benjamin Frederick Bramlage of Denver, CO; Step Brother, Karl Wertzberger (Jeni Wertzberger) of Arizona; Step Sister, Kirsten Wertzberger Krug (Robin Krug) of Lawrence, KS ; Fiancée, Juli Farinelli of Tempe, AZ; Aunt and Uncle Bob and Dorothy Willcoxon of Joplin, MO; Uncles Bill Waters of Manhattan, KS, Jim Waters and Lenny Waters of McDowell Creek, KS, Rick Waters of Junction City, KS and Michael Waters of Gilman, IL. He always enjoyed every moment that he was experiencing at the time. He was funny, creative, and kind. He had a wonderful sense of humor; he often played pranks and wasn’t afraid to laugh at himself. His days were inspired by wanting to always try new experiences and meet new people. He was charming and people were drawn to him. Damien and his fiancée Juli, owned and operated a custom pet care business and they both enjoyed animal rescue and helping the elderly. He had a great business mindset and created several companies throughout his life. Damien was best in class as an adventurer. He engaged in activities such as traveling, snowboarding, skateboarding, rock climbing, tennis, biking, camping, hiking, fishing, motorcycling, and as a certified deep sea diver he loved snorkeling and scuba diving. He was also a bit of a daredevil and took pleasure in bungee jumping and sky diving. He loved to cook and always wanted to attend festivals or try new restaurants. Damien had an affinity for the ocean and all things in it; he especially took pleasure in diving and swimming with sea turtles. He loved looking at stars and could tell anyone every constellation in the sky. Like his father and brother, Damien had an appreciation for classic cars and motorcycles. Most of all, Damien was a fighter and fought bravely the last few years of his life. In those moments when he was challenged the most, he selflessly never gave up. His will and determination were unmatchable and through it all he was brave for his family and his friends. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2021 at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. Kerry Ninemire officiating. Bill was the eldest child of Vincent and Virginia Anderes and was to be followed by eight other siblings. Bill was a graduate of Chapman High School and then attended the Salina Area Vo-Tech.

Bill spent most of his career as a mechanic in the Elmo community and was one of the best. Bill could fix almost anything-didn’t matter what it was – big or small. He never knew a stranger and would give anyone the shirt off his back even if it meant he had none. He was kind-hearted and had a generous soul. Even at his death Bill was still thinking of others and was able to help the lives of others through cornea/eye donation through the Saving Sight Foundation.

Bill is survived by his three children, John, Stacy and Leigh and several grand children and great grand children. He eight brothers and sisters Rhonda Foth, Greg (Sharon); Diane Shoemaker (Rodney); Yvonne Woodall (Dennis); Kim Svoboda (Kevin); Mark (Jill); Mike and Lisa Elliott and lots of nieces and nephews.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Virginia Anderes. He will be sadly missed by his family.

William J "Bill" Anderes - June 28th, 1953-July 4th, 2021

Betty J. Hampton, 91, of Abilene passed away July 5, 2021 at Abilene Place surrounded by family. She was born June 28, 1930 in Abilene, the daughter of Russell and Ora (Lowry) Neher. She grew up in Abilene and attended the local schools. Betty was a homemaker.

On February 6, 1951 she was united in marriage to Peter W. Hampton in Abilene. He preceded her in death June 9, 2020. They returned to Abilene after Pete was stationed in Florida. They moved into 804 NW 2nd just down the block from Pete’s parents. This was their home for 60 years. Great times and many wonderful memories for family and friends include front porch sitting, having coffee and cookies in the kitchen, and dinner parties with the good china in the dining room.

Betty J. Hampton, 91, of Abilene passed away July 5, 2021 at Abilene Place surrounded by family. She was born June 28, 1930 in Abilene, the daughter of Russell and Ora (Lowry) Neher. She grew up in Abilene and attended the local schools. Betty was a homemaker. On February 6, 1951 she was united in marriage to Peter W. Hampton in Abilene. He preceded her in death June 9, 2020. They returned to Abilene after Pete was stationed in Florida. They moved into 804 NW 2nd just down the block from Pete’s parents. This was their home for 60 years. Great times and many wonderful memories for family and friends include front porch sitting, having coffee and cookies in the kitchen, and dinner parties with the good china in the dining room. Anthony “Tony” Francis Schneweis, age 56, of Manhattan died June 30, 2021, at Select Specialty Hospital – St. Francis in Wichita. He was born October 29, 1964, in Great Bend, Kansas; the son of Bernard and Dolores (Hoffman) Schneweis. Tony served 20 years in the United States Navy retiring as an E6 in 2005. He received the following awards: Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal 4th award, Navy Good Conduct Medal 5th award, Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal 2nd award, Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon 2nd award, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy Artic Service Ribbon, Navy Pistol Marksmanship Medal, Submarine Warfare Pin and a Letter of Commendation from Submarine Squadron Eight. Tony served in the following submarines and commands: USS Jacksonville SSN669, USS L. Mendel Rivers SSN386, USS Alexandria SSN757, USS Annapolis SSN760, Submarine Development Group One, Defense Liaison Division West Coast Support Detachment, USS Chicago SSN721 and the Tactical Readiness Team US Pacific Fleet. Following his honorable discharge he moved to Lawrence, Kansas. He worked at Apria Healthcare on CPAP Machines. In 2007 he moved to Manhattan, Kansas. He attended Barton County Community College and did further studies at Kansas State University. He was active in the churches he attended, Calvary Chapel Manhattan and Grace Baptist Church. He worked at Dillons, GTM, and Travalum Trailers by Liberty Inc. Tony was an amateur radio operator, N0WTN. He was an Elvis fan, enjoyed traveling, liked to watch hockey and Manchester United F.C. He also enjoyed watching several different Youtubers and loved cats. He was married to Robin Lynn Winter on June 21, 1996, in Martinez, California. Tony is survived by his wife Robin and his two sons: Rian Winter of Wamego, KS, and Steiner Schneweis of the home. Jace Ryan Ward, 22 of Wamego, Kansas entered heaven surrounded by his family and friends on July 3rd, 2021 at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, St. Louis, MO after his courageous 25 month battle with Diffused Intrinsic Pontine Glioma brain cancer.

Jace was born on February 18, 1999 to Jimmy (Roger) Ward and Lisa M. Ward in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; Jace is the youngest child and brother to Blake Ward and Brooke Ward.&nbsp; Jace enjoyed a fantastic childhood in Inman, Kansas leaving many memories of adventures with Brooke and Blake, traveling sports teams and every friend he gathered along the way.&nbsp; He moved to Wamego, Kansas in 2010 at age 12.&nbsp;

Jace graduated from Wamego High School in 2017 where he played football as the hard hitting and fiercely competitive #2. &nbsp;He filled our home with laughter and friends who he constantly brought together.&nbsp; Jace attended the University of Kansas, receiving a Law Education Accelerated Degree Scholarship and Business Scholars Program Scholarship.&nbsp; In May 2019 he received his Associates of Arts degree from Highland Community College.&nbsp; After diagnosis of DIPG, Jace transferred his studies to Kansas State University where he remained a scholarship student in business entrepreneurship until his passing.

Jace loved football, the KC Chiefs, a good party, time at the lake with friends and above everything spending time with those he loved. He never lacked confidence to make a first impression, Jace was authentically himself.

Jace was employed part time by Emerson Collective, Palo Alto, CA as a member of the Health team advocating, investing and granting funds to combat rare cancer.&nbsp; In the last two years of his life, he keynoted a Congressional Briefing on DIPG, spoke to the NIH on patient ownership of genomic data, and regularly brought together foundations to partner with him on visions he had to fill gaps in research and patient navigation.&nbsp; He inspired to date nearly $5 Million in funding for pediatric brain cancer research and treatment.&nbsp; Jace became a childhood brain tumor advocate always putting the need to advance science and protect younger kids and their legacies before his own.&nbsp; While he was often described by others as a beacon of hope and light in the DIPG Community, to Jace, he was simply doing what anyone would do, making it a little easier for the next family.

The name Jace means “the Healer” and as our family and friends reflect on Jace’s legacy words like fiercely loyal, accepting of all, best hugs ever, helped us discover the best in ourselves were consistent themes.&nbsp; Jace had the unique combination of intelligence, compassion and drive.&nbsp; He was courageous, independent, determined and accepting no matter what your background. A good heart and authenticity were all Jace required to join his tribe.&nbsp;&nbsp; Jace rests now with our Lord who promises us “that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28.

He coined the phrase #I can’t die, I’m busy.&nbsp; Now more than ever Jace’s phrase rings true.&nbsp; His unique work to bring awareness cannot die, he implored us to all stay busy spreading awareness, helping the next families and funding research for DIPG.&nbsp; He hoped one day, a child will hear you have DIPG, but don’t worry we know how to treat it.&nbsp; He would tell us often, push forward, enjoy the good times fully and just love people.&nbsp;

Jenny Lynn Rossing, age 28 of Clay Center, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021 in Clay Center.

She was born on February 2, 1993 in Clay Center, the daughter of Rowdan Ray and Jandrea Sue (Siebold) Rossing.  She graduated in 2011 from Clay Center Community High School where she played volleyball and basketball.  Following high school, she graduated from Bellus Academy in Manhattan.

Jenny was a ray of sunshine and had a bubbly personality who loved spending time with her family and friends.  She enjoyed cruising the country back roads and was a friend to many and could lift anyone’s spirit.

She is survived by her father, Rowdan Rossing; her mother, Jandrea Siebold; two sisters, Elizabeth White and Kelee Siebold; three brothers, Devin Siebold, Linden Rossing and Rowdy Rossing, Jr.; her boyfriend, Sheldon Pfizenmaier; grandmother, Betty Siebold; grandfather, Leonard Stogsdill and her Great Dane, Capone.

She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Sandy Stogsdill and a grandfather, Gary Siebold.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Eva Louise French was born on April 15, 1927, to Thearon E. and Gladys I. French in Carlton, Kansas. She spent her early years growing up on the Cornell Ranch in Carlton. She also attended Carlton Grade School before moving to Abilene, Kansas as a teen. There she attended Abilene High School. Eva united in marriage with Jesse Dean Bogart on October 27, 1946, in Abilene, Kansas. Their union was blessed with two children, a son Steven and a daughter, Rhonda. Dean and Eva raised their family in Carlton before moving to Abilene in 1966. Eva worked for many years at Ben Franklin 5&amp;10 Cent Store in Abilene earning $1 an hour. She always said she really enjoyed meeting and visiting with people during her time there, but when an opportunity arose for Eva to make more money, she accepted a position with Westinghouse Lighting in Salina. While the work was hard and the hours were long, some of her coworkers became close, lifelong friends. Among those were Sandy Patee, Juanita Anderson, Carol Pfeiffer, Carol Cadillo, Marlene Nelson, Alice Ryan, Mary Kay Kuntz and Phyllis Gardenhire. In 1976, Dean and Eva moved to Salina, Kansas to be closer to work. They became next door neighbors to the son of Eva’s best friend from Carlton, Duane Hobson. Eva’s family always felt the comfort of knowing that Duane was just next door. He stepped up to the plate many times when Eva’s family was too far away. They will be forever grateful to him for all the assistance he provided at a moment’s notice. Eva also began making a weekly trip to The Corner Cottage hair salon in Salina where Sarah Duffy styled her hair for the next 43 years. They too became lifelong friends. Eva retired from Westinghouse (Phillips Lighting) in 1989. Her remaining years were spent enjoying some of her favorite hobbies which included crocheting, fishing and playing with her 5 grandchildren, Libby, Thearon, Kasey, Kris and Kelly and her 13 greatgrandchildren. Eva is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Dean, son Steven, daughter-in-law, Anita, grandson Kody, her parents and 4 brothers and sisters. She is survived by daughter Rhonda Goodin (Mike) of Derby, Kansas, granddaughter Libby Wray of Newton, Kansas and grandsons, Thearon Wray (Jamie) of Oxford, Kansas, Kasey Bogart of Salina, Kansas, Kristopher Bogart (Katie), of rural Abilene, Kansas, Kelly Bogart (Kayla) of rural Abilene, Kansas and her 13 greatgrandchildren. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Eva’s family always felt the comfort of knowing that Duane was just next door. He stepped up to the plate many times when Eva’s family was too far away. They will be forever grateful to him for all the assistance he provided at a moment’s notice. Eva also began making a weekly trip to The Corner Cottage hair salon in Salina where Sarah Duffy styled her hair for the next 43 years. They too became lifelong friends. Eva retired from Westinghouse (Phillips Lighting) in 1989. Her remaining years were spent enjoying some of her favorite hobbies which included crocheting, fishing and playing with her 5 grandchildren, Libby, Thearon, Kasey, Kris and Kelly and her 13 greatgrandchildren. Eva is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Dean, son Steven, daughter-in-law, Anita, grandson Kody, her parents and 4 brothers and sisters. She is survived by daughter Rhonda Goodin (Mike) of Derby, Kansas, granddaughter Libby Wray of Newton, Kansas and grandsons, Thearon Wray (Jamie) of Oxford, Kansas, Kasey Bogart of Salina, Kansas, Kristopher Bogart (Katie), of rural Abilene, Kansas, Kelly Bogart (Kayla) of rural Abilene, Kansas and her 13 greatgrandchildren. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Funeral Services for Eva will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. Burial will follow at the Abilene City Cemetery. Friends may come by Danner’s&nbsp; any time Tuesday until service time. The family suggests memorials be given to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Jacqueline Ann Frintrup, age 81, of Manhattan, died Friday July 2, 2021 at the Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan. Jackie was born on April 7, 1940 in St. Louis City, Missouri, the daughter of Walter and Anne (Doyle) Spengler. She grew up in the area and graduated from Jennings High School with the class of 1958. She worked for many years for the Girl Scouts’ Council as a Field Director in Kansas and Missouri. Jackie was known by her grandkids as “Mimi” and she loved that her family and her families’ friends and people just knew her as Mimi. She enjoyed being with her family as often as she could. The holidays and family vacations together were always important to Jackie. She was a member of the National Girl Scouts Organization, the Manhattan Welcome Club, and the First United Methodist Church in Manhattan. Jackie also was involved with the Flint Hills Breadbasket and always supported the American Red Cross. Mimi was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Casey Licklider and Nichole Licklider.

She is survived by her daughters: Susan Adams (Mitch) of Westmoreland and Stacy Licklider of St. George. Mimi is also survived by her grandchildren: Shelby Callaway (Brandon), Shane Adams (his fiancé Pam Heiman), Dalton Licklider, and Carter Licklider; her great-grandchildren, Madelyn Licklider and Amelia Callaway. The family will greet friends during a visitation from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday July 6, 2021 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan. Deborah Lee Guibor Worden,&nbsp;74, of Wamego, Kansas, died Friday, June 25, 2021, at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on September 5, 1946, the daughter of George Guibor of Missouri and June Williams of California.

She was a loving mother of several beautiful children and 2 of her children have already passed away. Leeanne Faith Dancer of California, Jennifer Trina Lucas of California. Both daughters of Deborah sadly fought their own battles with cancer and passed away. The other two children Jennifer Smith (Dan Pittenger) Ivan Smith (Robyn Rexroat Smith) are the remaining survivors of Deborah.

She had a business called The Starving Artist. She was an artist who painted dragons and unicorns. She was well known for her figure ice skater stained glass piece for Kansas and her windmill pieces also in a museum.

Deborah very much loved her children. Deborah and her late husband Jack Worden who passed in 2019 had a Boy Scout troop for the handicapped children in Wamego. They had a roofing business, Worden Roofing. Deborah also help run Black Cat Video Games in Wamego. She helped so many people in the community and She will be dearly missed.
