Gary L. Witmer Sr., 78, of Manhattan, KS, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020. Gary was born in Joplin, MO on June 1, 1942, to Helen Genevieve (Gould) and Russell Corbin Witmer. On August 9, 1961, he married the love of his life, Joyce Marie Hurst. He worked for 22 years for the city of Manhattan before retiring. Gary loved to fish and hunt, spend time with his family, and go to the casinos. He was a great storyteller and love to regale his family and friends with his tales. Gary was very outgoing he never met a stranger. Gary is survived by his wife Joyce Witmer, two daughters, Melinda (Jim) McCoy, of St. George, KS; Mary (Kenneth) Stevenson, of St. George, KS; two sons Gary Lee Witmer Jr, of Carthage, MO; Mike S. Witmer, of Manhattan, KS; two sisters, Shirley Steele, of Joplin, MO; Norma Hankins, of Tulsa, OK. 5 Grandchildren, and 5 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary Williams. Mary's life began on December 3, 1930 in Hays, KS.  She was the daughter of Robert and Estella (Thouvenell) Hooker of Winona, Kansas.  Mary graduated from Fort Hays State College and began her career as a teacher.  She went on to teach in several schools including Wichita, Denver, Salina, Assaria, and the brand-new Southeast of Saline building.  At Southeast she taught 5th grade for most of her career, including both of her children.  As most teachers do, she went back to school at Emporia State Teacher's College for extra training and continued her career until retirement.

  Mary met Kendall Carlson through a friend's introduction, and they were wed on November 20, 1960 in Winona, KS.  Mary was a member of the Assaria Lutheran Church and most recently was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Salina.  As a young lady she played tennis for Fort Hays State. She was a formidable ping pong player and loved driving her Ford Thunderbird.&nbsp; Mary loved to play bridge and pitch and was an expert card player her entire life.  She enjoyed the casinos and was one of those lucky people who frequently hit the jackpot.  Mary enjoyed getting together with the retired teachers in Alpha Delta Kappa and served as their president in 1993. Cheering for the Royals and for K-State Football was also a favorite pastime.

  Her greatest joy was her family which includes her children Lynn (Rod) Just of Marion, and Dan (Gay) Carlson of Falun; grandchildren Evan (Brooke) Just of Wilsey, Erika (Cole) George of Uniontown, Nikki (Tim) Larson of Marquette, Caitlin Carlson of Nashua, NH and Alyssa Carlson of Wichita; great-grandchildren Rylee Larson and Brielle George.  Mary passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Salina Regional Medical Center.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Kendall and her brother Robert A. Hooker.

Joe served in the United States Army until his retirement. After retirement, he worked as a para-professional for USD #475 at Junction City High School. He married Ollie Wade July 23, 1983. Gier, 95 of Clay Center died Thursday, October 22, 2020.&nbsp; She was born on September 16, 1925, the daughter of David and Callie (Walters) Ramsey.&nbsp; Della graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1943.&nbsp; She married Howard “Shorty” Gier on October 9, 1943.&nbsp; She worked at KP&amp;L in Topeka, Boogart’s, Farmer’s Insurance, Brown’s and was a truck driver at Hutch Manufacturing for 10 years.&nbsp; Della babysat for many kids and took care of several older people.&nbsp; She is preceded in death by parents, two sisters, husband, Howard, son George Gier, grandson, Zayne McVey and son in-law, David Kendrick.

Della was member of the Eagles Lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary.&nbsp; Her family was very important to her.&nbsp; She loved spending time with her kids, great grandkids and great great grandkids.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 30, 2020, at the Second Missionary Baptist Church. Cremation will follow the service. Mr. Thomas will lie in state 5-7 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2020, at the Johnson Funeral Home. Clarence was born April 20, 1957, the son of Clarence Daniels and Joan Thomas. Clarence served in the United States Army. He later went to work for the City of Junction City as the Park and Recreation Director for over thirty years. He later worked as a corrections officer with the Geary County Sheriff's Department. One of his greatest hobbies was working in his yard and garden. He was a member of the International Society of Arboriculture. He married Sharon Washington March 31, 1978. Survivors left to mourn his loss are his wife Sharon of the home in Junction City, KS; one son, Curtis Thomas of Junction City, KS. and one daughter, Amanda Thomas of Dallas, TX; his mother, Joan Thomas of Muskogee, OK; one sister, Alicia Douglas of Los Angeles, CA and two grandchildren and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces. David preceded her in death on March 7, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her father; sister, Jeanette Peters; brother in law, Rodney Ohlde and son in law, Ron Smith.

After a long and well-lived life, Charlene (Dreiling) Herman was called home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. Charlene was a vibrant wife, mom, grandmother, sister &amp; friend until dementia overtook her days. Born in Ellis KS on April 14, 1933 to Ray &amp; Marcella Dreiling, she was one of 5 other siblings. They lived in Ellis until 1943 at which time they moved to Chapman KS which is where she and her siblings attended school. Charlene was married to George Herman in September 1954, they were parents to 5 children and moved to Denver, CO in 1956 for 20 years, moving back to Chapman KS in 1976. They bought a few acres &amp; built their home there to be closer to family. Upon her return to Chapman, Charlene renovated the old bank building into “Char’s Salon” where she did hair as a beautician for a number of years. There were few family gatherings where she wasn’t called upon to get her scissors &amp; clippers out to do trims for nieces, nephews, siblings, etc. Charlene was a servant to her community whenever the need arose. She helped clean the church parish (St. Michaels) and frequently prepared food for the many dinners the church had. But it didn’t stop there - friends, family, shut-ins ... whenever a cheerful visitor was needed Charlene could be counted on. Her kindness &amp; great sense of humor attracted many friends - she was by all accounts well loved by her community. Charlene is survived by her husband of 66 years, George Herman, their children Sherry Hooper, Abilene KS; Jerry (Lauren) Herman, Thornton CO; Patty (David) Canfield, Abilene KS; &amp; Mary Beth (Kevin) Buchanan, Bartlesville OK. She is also survived by her grandchildren Sarah Canfield, Kellen Canfield, Trenton Canfield, Jeremy Collins, Cristian Whitney, Austin Heidenreich, Brittany Da Via, Kelsey Straub, &amp; (little) Theresa Foster as well as many grandchildren &amp; others who loved her. Charlene Herman - April 14th, 1933-October 21st, 2020

Phyliis (Kugler) McCosh was born 100 years ago, on September 14th, 1920, and died Saturday, October 24th in the Lakeview Village Rehabilitation Center in Lenexa, Kansas.

 Her good long life began as a child of John Musselman Kugler and Bertha Burkholder Kugler of rural Abilene. Some of her best childhood memories were fixing a snack when coming home from school and going to the barn while her Mother milked the cows. She talked of the many scrumptious meals her Mother would fix for large family holiday dinners, a tradition she continued. She also spoke fondly of practicing the piano as a child and especially loved playing hymns. 

Phyllis attended East Buckeye grade school, Abilene High School and graduated from Bethany College in Lindsborg in 1941 with a degree in music education. In 1937, she and another young man from the community, LeRoy McCosh, were two of three selected to attend the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago. A relationship began that led to their marriage in 1943, with a wedding at her parents home at the Kugler farm. They were married 58 years and had six children: Ron McCosh (Cindy) of Beverly, KS, Patricia King (Gary) of Winfield,KS, Gordon McCosh (Sherryl), of Rockwall, TX, Nancy Wassenberg (Roger) of Shawnee, KS, Dennis McCosh of rural Abilene, and Cathy Matlack (Terry) of Shawnee, KS. Phyllis had 16 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 2 great-great granddaughters. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy in 2002, her parents, her three siblings, Harold Kugler, Marie Wick and Laberta Simmons, a daughter-in-law, Lynn McCosh and a grandson,Joe McCosh.

Both LeRoy and Phyllis had many accomplishments, honors and awards through out their lives. Highlights were the Dickinson County Extension Council Appreciation award and they were also honored as members of the Master Farmer and Master Farm Homemaker award in 1993, giving public recognition for excellence in farming, homemaking and rural citizenship.&nbsp; Phyllis was honored with the Master Teacher award from the Chapman School District in 1977. Music and the piano was Phyllis’ passion. She began giving piano lessons at the age of 16 and continued until 80 years of age. She taught elementary music in the Chapman School District at Blue Ridge, Talmage and Upland schools from 1956 - 1988. She inspired many “next generation” music teachers who she continued to mentor and stay in touch with over the years. She loved hearing her grandchildren and great grand-children play the piano or their instruments and many mini concerts were given her while she listened with a broad smile.

Phyllis had a strong unshakable faith. She served her community of faith at the Buckeye Church of the Brethren by serving as pianist and organist for 48 years. She had youth choirs, did summer bible school and encouraged and accompanied many of her students who were ready to share their musical talents with the church community. She was known for her bakingand her cinnamon twists were always one of the first things people would seek out at many church potlucks.

Services will be Saturday, October 31st, 11 a.m., at Danner Funeral Home, 501 N. Buckeye St.,Abilene, KS.&nbsp; Due to the pandemic, attendees are encouraged to wear masks. Phyliis (Kugler) McCosh was born 100 years ago, on September 14th, 1920, and died Saturday, October 24th in the Lakeview Village Rehabilitation Center in Lenexa, Kansas. Her good long life began as a child of John Musselman Kugler and Bertha Burkholder Kugler of rural Abilene. Some of her best childhood memories were fixing a snack when coming home from school and going to the barn while her Mother milked the cows. She talked of the many scrumptious meals her Mother would fix for large family holiday dinners, a tradition she continued. She also spoke fondly of practicing the piano as a child and especially loved playing hymns. Phyllis attended East Buckeye grade school, Abilene High School and graduated from Bethany College in Lindsborg in 1941 with a degree in music education. In 1937, she and another young man from the community, LeRoy McCosh, were two of three selected to attend the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago. A relationship began that led to their marriage in 1943, with a wedding at her parents home at the Kugler farm. They were married 58 years and had six children: Ron McCosh (Cindy) of Beverly, KS, Patricia King (Gary) of Winfield,KS, Gordon McCosh (Sherryl), of Rockwall, TX, Nancy Wassenberg (Roger) of Shawnee, KS, Dennis McCosh of rural Abilene, and Cathy Matlack (Terry) of Shawnee, KS. Phyllis had 16 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 2 great-great granddaughters. Beuford Putman, 82 of Abilene passed away Friday, October 23, 2020 at his home. He was born May 24, 1938 in Johnson City, Tennessee, the son of James “Webb” and Sylvia (McInturff) Putman. On June 12, 1988 he was united in marriage to Barbara Baker in Abilene. 

Beuford served 8 years in the Air Force and 22 years in the Army Reserve 425th Transportation Company. He worked at Ft. Riley as a heavy equipment mechanic.

 Beuford is survived by his loving wife Barbara of the home. One son, Kevin Putman of Colorado. Six grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and 4 siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and his daughter (Valerie).

 Military Graveside Services will be 1:00 P.M., Friday, October 30, 2020 at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Solomon. Masks and social distancing will be required. Laurence (Larry) Clifton Wright 64 of Abilene , formerly of West Virginia passed away October 22, 2020. He was born February 4, 1956 in Washington DC , the son of David and Janice (Shaulis) Wright. Larry worked various jobs including construction, machine tech and plastics tech. Larry was always laid back and never worried about anything. He loved golf and hunting and socializing on Facebook.

Eleanor Ruth McClure McEwen was born September 18, 1923 in Republic, Kansas and died at age 97 on October 22, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas. She was the daughter of Mildred Newsham McClure and William H. McClure, Sr.

Eleanor’s lifetime of caregiving began at the age of six when her parents divorced. Her attorney/farmer father was awarded sole custody, thus creating a separation from her mother which would last until she became an adult. She looked after her younger brother Billy and became the woman of the house. Eleanor’s Aunt Bertha McClure taught her to sew and became a mentor. Years later Eleanor would become a daily caregiver to her father and eventually to her mother and stepfather as they spent their final years in Belleville care facilities.

Eleanor was a strong student, graduating from Republic High School and earning a Normal Training Certificate which allowed her to teach in the Stover one room school and in the Republic school. Her one and only beau, Donald McEwen, courted her in the kitchen of the McClure home and they were married December 28, 1941, celebrating 63 years together until Donald’s death in 2004. They began married life in a small house four miles east of Republic, until moving onto the McEwen family homesteads (celebrating 140 years this year) a mile further east.

Eleanor and Donald were the parents of three children; Charles, Nancy and Pat. In addition to childcare, Eleanor was a full partner with Donald and Charles in the farming operation; meticulous bookkeeping, (adapting from penciled spreadsheets to computerized records), plowing, helping herd cattle when necessary, shuttling equipment between fields, delivering meals during harvest…all the while running the household with loads of laundry in the wringer washer hauled up from the basement and outside to dry on the clothesline, meal preparation, cleaning, gardening, canning, and raising chickens. Eleanor sewed beautifully, which was important to her daughters because they only had “store bought” clothing once they went away to college! She created all the costumes for their high school musical roles, as well as their bridesmaid dresses. Eleanor’s breadmaking and pie baking were legendary, with KSU tailgate friends still remembering her trunkloads of delicious apple pies.

An unusual piece of Eleanor’s story is that she and Donald rented a home in Belleville for eight years while Nancy and Pat attended junior high and high school in Belleville. They wanted the girls to be close to school, activities and friends without the 13 mile drive to the farm multiple times a day…yet another example of Eleanor’s caregiving as this required maintenance of both households. Her “town kitchen” became the gathering spot for the girls’ friends to enjoy homemade cookies and unsolicited but oft-heeded advice on all matters…frequently peppered with platitudes remembered to this day, eg. “You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar” and “He/she has a hard row to hoe.” Besides their agricultural operation, Eleanor and Donald spent their time attending every single athletic and school activity event of their three children and later, many of those of their grandchildren. Their car was always full of athletes or cheerleaders or fans heading to events. They held season KSU basketball tickets and missed very few games in Ahearn Fieldhouse, traveling two hours each way. Neither attended college themselves but they valued education and they loved K-State. They were proud that all three of their children, as well as their children-in-law, earned degrees from KSU. Their Moms’ and Dads’ Weekends at the Kappa House are treasured memories, along with their family treks to all the KSU Bowl games while grandson Matt played. Eleanor was an active and longtime member of Belleville’s First United Methodist Church where she taught children’s Sunday School classes and baked pies for the Church’s food stand at the county fair. She enjoyed her friends in the I Go You Go extension homemakers unit and together she &amp; Donald loved their monthly pitch parties with friends and relatives. They enjoyed piling into the van with the Knopps for vacations and extensive trips abroad to wherever the McCunes were living, including London and Brussels.

Eleanor’s transition from the farm to Manhattan began with her and Donald wintering with the Knopps. She became a member of PEO Chapter IU and Polly Ogden Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a front row fixture at Manhattan’s First United Methodist Church. In September of 2014 she moved into Lyle House at Meadowlark Hills where the excellent staff led by Director Sherri Smith provided loving care for her for six years, including the six months of isolation from family she endured because of Covid 19. Her transition into the Good Shepherd Hospice House in September allowed precious time with family members for which they are eternally grateful.

She was a caring stay-at-home mother and housewife, who had a love for all animals, and had a spunky spirit enjoyed by many. She and John moved to Manhattan, Kansas in the spring of 1976, where they established their chiropractic clinic, Alternative Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her father Carl, and is survived by her mother Rosalie, her brother Carl "Mike", and her sisters Carla and Tammy. Karen and John have two children, Shannon (Todd) Ruder and John Michael Wertin. They also have six grandchildren, Seth (Kelley), Hanna (Brandon), Blake, John, Abby, and Joe, and two great grandchildren, Lincoln and Hadley. Karen Marie Wertin 

Marilyn was born at home on the family farm at Lost Springs, KS, on September 19, 1932. She graduated from Lost Springs High School and Wichita Business College, then in 1997 received a BA in Theological Studies from Vision Christian University, Ramona, CA. She worked as an insurance agent/underwriter for various agencies in California for most of her career. She retired at age 65, then several years later rejoined the company she retired from to continue working part time until 2016. She moved to Texas in 2019 to be close to family.

Marilyn gave her life to Christ in 1983. She loved God and shared His love and Word. She did this in various ways, including holding services in a nursing home (1983-1984), a county women's detention center (1985-2019), and a California state prison (2006-2016). Marilyn was born at home on the family farm at Lost Springs, KS, on September 19, 1932. She graduated from Lost Springs High School and Wichita Business College, then in 1997 received a BA in Theological Studies from Vision Christian University, Ramona, CA. She worked as an insurance agent/underwriter for various agencies in California for most of her career. She retired at age 65, then several years later rejoined the company she retired from to continue working part time until 2016. She moved to Texas in 2019 to be close to family.Marilyn gave her life to Christ in 1983. She loved God and shared His love and Word. She did this in various ways, including holding services in a nursing home (1983-1984), a county women's detention center (1985-2019), and a California state prison (2006-2016). Marilyn V. Baker - September 19, 1932-October 20, 2020 (age 88)

Irma was born, the youngest of three children, on November 4, 1941 to Albert and Ethel (Hodgson) Janzen, on the family farm eight miles north of Canada, KS.  She attended Victory Grade School first through eighth grade and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1959.  Irma was united in marriage to Robert Meisinger of Marion on July 5, 1959.  The family lived in several different states including Kansas, Oregon, Idaho, Washington, Oklahoma and returned to Marion in 2000.  Irma was a stay-at-home mom most of her married life beginning her career as an assistant church secretary at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Beaverton, OR from 1990 to 1991 before moving to Tulsa, OK where she worked at Trinity Lutheran Church in Broken Arrow from 1992 to 2000 when she retired to Marion. 

 She was active in church everywhere they lived, serving in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, as a Sunday School teacher, Mid-Week School and VBS teacher and especially enjoyed playing in the Hand Bell Choir.  She served as bulletin and newsletter secretary at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marion.

  Her greatest joy was her family which includes her husband of 61 years Robert Meisinger of Marion, daughter Cheryl (Dan) Erickson of Columbia City, OR, son David Meisinger of Newton, KS, sister Dorothy (Janzen) Ensz of Hillsboro, KS, brother Leonard (Jo Ann) Janzen of Fort Worth, TX and many nieces and nephews.

Donna Mae Hayes, age 88, lifetime resident of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away October 23, 2020, at Diversicare of Council Grove.

Donna was born March 9, 1932 to Theodore and Velma Miller Litke in Council Grove. &nbsp;She graduated from Council Grove High School in 1950. &nbsp;A couple of years later, Robert Wayne Hayes drove to Donna’s in his yellow Mercury, with the rag top down, and asked to start courting. &nbsp;They married in November 1954, and lived happily ever after until his death on June 26, 2003. &nbsp;Donna worked as a phone operator for Council Grove Telephone, followed by Skeen Tax Service in Council Grove. &nbsp;Eventually, Wayne and Donna owned and operated Hayes Oil Company and Hayes Carry Out Chicken.&nbsp;

Donna enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, camping, annual pheasant hunting trips, and annual trips to South Texas with friends and family. &nbsp;She was famous for making rag rugs. &nbsp;She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. &nbsp;Donna loved her family, and was proud of each and every one of them.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne, daughter Lisa Wilburn, sister Mary Ann Allen, and brothers Allen, Frank, Teddy and Jim Litke.

She is survived by her sons, Brad Hayes and wife Kristie, Mike Hayes and wife Gina, and son-in-law Larry Wilburn, all of Council Grove; sister-in-laws Laverne Kufahl and Betty Litke; grandchildren, Kaysee Hayes (Becky), Ryne Hayes (Michele), Nathan Hayes (Juli), Kailea Horn (Jarryd), Erin Erichsen (Matt), Erica Effland (Kaleb), and Larisa Wilburn; 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. &nbsp;Donna will missed by all.

At the age of 82, with her loving family by her side Joan Patton was welcomed into eternal life on October 22, 2020.&nbsp; She was an adored and loved wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, and a kind friend.

Joan was born July 14, 1938 in Rich Hill, MO, the daughter of the late Milton and Evelyn (Rich) Manchester.

She met Mel (Melvin N. Patton) through mutual friends and was married on July 5, 1959 at Calvary Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO.&nbsp; Joan and Mel later moved to the Joliet area, where she raised her family.&nbsp; She loved the outdoors and loved to camp with her family for many years.&nbsp; She also loved to square dance, playing card games, and was an avid golfer in retirement; she even hit a hole-in-one.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Junior and Bill Manchester; three sisters Vera Davis, Elizabeth Fox and infant sister, Iris Manchester; and one great-granddaughter, Alice Zimmerman.

Joan will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 61 years, Melvin Patton; her children, Carolyn Tait, Bruce (Joyce) Patton, Cheryl (John) Benac and &nbsp;Jeff (Amber) Patton; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Tait, Jeremy (Leanne) Zimmerman, Jessica (Rafel) Romero, Jeanette (Ron) Fugger, Lauren Patton, Morgan (Cody) Logston and Draulia Patton; six great-grandchildren and her nieces, Janet (Jerry) Copeland, who was more like a sister to her, and Nancy (Bob) Chandler.

Bruce E. Day, 68, of rural Council Grove, passed away October 22, 2020. He was born in Council Grove, Kansas, on June 1, 1952, to L.C. “Pete” Day and Doris Giger Day.

Bruce graduated from Bushong Grade School in 1966 and Northern Heights High School in 1970. He received an Associates Degree in Business from Cloud County Community College in 1972, where he lettered both years in basketball and tennis. He then went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from Emporia State University in Business Administration in 1974. The same year he married his high school sweetheart, Joleen Schiesser.

After getting married, Bruce and Joleen moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where he worked for K-Mart as a manager for three years. He was transferred to Omaha, Nebraska, before moving back to the Day Family Ranch in 1977. He then took a position with Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply of Emporia, Kansas. He retired from Bluestem after 35 years.

Throughout his life, Bruce enjoyed playing and coaching youth sports. He was a member of the Council Grove United Methodist Church and an active role model in 4-H. Most importantly, Bruce was a lifelong cattleman. He enjoyed working, managing, and custom grazing cattle alongside his family.

He was most proud of his four children and ten grandchildren. Bruce is survived by his daughter Mindy Amend (husband Luke) of Whitewater, Kansas; daughter, Lisa Jarvis (husband Ben) of rural Council Grove, Kansas; daughter, Sondra Sparks (husband Derek) of Tonganoxie, Kansas; and son, Pete Day (wife Nikki) of rural Council Grove, Kansas. Grandchildren include Ella and Julia Amend; Brayden and Brody Jarvis; Mason, Logan, and Ava Sparks; Eli, Dani, and Lexi Day. He is also survived by his brothers: Don Day (wife Carole) of rural Council Grove, Kansas, and Dean Day (wife Maria) of Hesston, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joleen Day, as well as his mother&nbsp;and father.

Due to circumstances beyond the&nbsp;family's control the celebration of life will be held at a later date.&nbsp;

She was born November 6, 1951, to Shorty and Edna Kuhn.&nbsp; She grew up in Ellis, Ks and graduated from Ellis High School in 1969 then attended Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; She married Brian Wolf August 5, 1970, in Ellis, Ks. &nbsp; Barbara worked more than twenty-five years for Hays Internal Medicine Group as a Medical Billing and Coding Specialist. Barbara loved her Grandchildren with all her heart and spent a lot of time attending sporting events, dance recitals, and taking them for fun filled adventures on weekends.&nbsp; She enjoyed making treats and attending school parties.&nbsp; Barbara had many hobbies, including reading, sewing for people, baking for weddings, birthdays, and many other occasions. Roosevelt was born March 17, 1945, in Wagoner, OK. the son of Lewis and Pearlie Mae (Barnett) Crawford. Roosevelt served in the United States Army until his retirement. He later worked for Quaker Oats that was later sold to Pepsi in Manhattan, KS. He enjoyed music and singing. He married Ngoc Doan July 11, 1973, in Dallas, TX. Those left to mourn his loss are his loving wife Ngoc of the home in Junction City, KS and his daughter, Kimberly T. Doan of Junction City, KS and Giau Kim Doan of Hercules, CA. Linda's life began on February 14, 1946 in Maywood, CA.  She was the daughter of John and Helen (Stieler) Millar.  She was educated in California and spent most of her life there.  Linda was united in marriage to Ronald Burstein who preceded her in death in 2005.  She moved to Kansas with her family in 2018.

  Linda loved to cook and bake.  She was an animal lover at heart.  Linda was a Denver Broncos fan, LA Dodgers fan and USC football fan.  She also enjoyed fishing, sewing, and quilting.

  She is survived by her children John (Heather) Burstein of Florence, KS, Erin Graae of California, Crystal Burstein of Apple Valley, CA, Nancy LaNier of New York, and Stephen Burstein of California; grandchildren Nathan, Tyler, Mark, Amber, Linda, Alex, Rebecca and Joseph; several great grandchildren and her sister Diane Crist of Oregon.

  Linda passed away suddenly at her home in Florence on October 21, 2020.  She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother Dick Millar.

&nbsp;Lylah June (Blanken) McCosh, age 86, of Manhattan, died October 21, 2020, at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan. She was born June 30, 1934, in rural Linn, Kansas, the daughter of Karl John William Blanken and Clara Emma Marie (Meyer) Blanken. Lylah graduated from Chapman High School in 1952, and then took her Registered Nurse training from 1952 to 1955 in Vicksburg, MS, Chicago, IL for her OBGYN training and in Tallahassee, FL for her psychiatry training that was paid for by the Lutheran Laymen’s League. She then worked for the Abilene Hospital. She met Kenneth “Ken” McCosh in Chapman KS and were married on October 7, 1956 in Clay Center, Kansas. They moved to Manhattan and she worked at Memorial Hospital in the OBGYN and later was the Labor/Delivery Supervisor. In 1978, she went to work at Surgical Associates for Dr. George Bascom and worked with Dr. Bascom until she retired in 1993. In Spring of 1977 she was one of the Riley County citizens involved in the origination of Hospice Care of Manhattan. Lylah was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Manhattan. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events and watching her grandchildren participate in sports, reading. traveling, gardening and visiting with family and friends. Survivors include her two children: Kent McCosh and his wife Kathi of Lenexa, KS, and Ann Williams and her husband Steve of Manhattan; five grandchildren: Maddie McCosh and her fiancé Joe Arduini of Roeland Park, KS, Michael McCosh of Lenexa, Bryce Williams of Parker, CO, Ryan Williams of Manhattan, and Evan Williams of Wichita; and two siblings: Elmer Blanken of Leavenworth, KS, and Mary Ann Mall of Clay Center, KS along with many loving nieces &amp; nephews. Nancy Marie Stewart, 84, of Prairie Village, Kansas, died Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at her home. &nbsp;She was a life-long resident of the community.

Nancy was born March 28, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Ivan T. and Ida Austian Knight. &nbsp;She attended local schools and graduated in 1954 from Shawnee-Mission North High School.

Nancy married James W. Stewart on September 18, 1954, in San Diego, California. &nbsp;He preceded her in death on August 14, 2018.

Nancy was a homemaker. &nbsp;She also was a partner in the family business, J and N Accounting Service. &nbsp;Nancy was very active at the Village Presbyterian Church and worked many years in the infant room. &nbsp;She also sang in the choir and was a member of the bell choir. &nbsp;Nancy had many creative and artistic talents. She was in the Mini Makers group for over 40 years, making miniature houses. She made beautiful hooked rugs and taught this skill for Village Church’s Art Ministry. &nbsp;Nancy loved her family and was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother.

Nancy is survived by her children; James W. LaDell passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at the home surrounded by family. She was born May 25, 1931 in Hillsboro, Kansas the daughter of William and Emma (Zitterkopf) Oblander. She graduated from Durham High School in 1949. LaDell was devoted to her family and friends and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading books, baking, cooking, and making her award winning angel food cakes. One of her greatest joys was being the Grand Marshall for the Wild Bill Hickok Fair. On July 31, 1949 she was united in marriage to Donald L. Riffel. LaDell was a school bus driver for USD 473 for 34 years, worked at the county fair office for 19 years, and helped her husband and daughter on the farm. She is survived by her daughter Margarete Riffel of Enterprise, sons Randy and wife Michelle Riffel of Council Grove, Rowland and his wife Christine Riffel of Musselshell, Montana, foster son Terry and his wife Leslie Neustrum of Olathe, sister DeEtta and her husband David Williams of Emporia, eight grandchildren Tammy, Stephanie, Shannan, Justin, Eric, Jessica, Ty, and Matt, five great grandchildren Latasha, Kade, Kendall, Kacie, and Gunner, sister-in-law Donna Riffel, and several nieces and nephews.
