

John David "Dave" Jones, 67, of Manhattan, KS passed away on August 31, 2020 in Topeka, KS.

Dave was born in Riverside, CA on August 19, 1953. He was a veteran of the armed forces and served in the Army for 27 years. Dave graduated from Manhattan Christian College with a Bachelor's degree in Management and Ethics. He received his Master's degree in Liberal Studies from Fort Hays State University. He taught criminal justice curriculum at Cloud County Community College for many years, before retiring for the second time. His most recent position was with the Department of Public Works, Master Planning as a Realty Specialist.

Dave was preceded in death by his wife Deborah Jones.

Dave is survived by his children: Anneliese Burciaga, Brewster Jones, Michael Jones, and Andrew Jones. He is also survived by his six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to come to the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. Friday September 11, 2020, to pay their respects.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday September 12, 2020 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Melanie Nord officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Zeandale.

At the age of 91, Frederick Raymond Freeby Jr. passed away August 31,2020 due to Covid-19 complications at Stormont Vail in Topeka Kansas. Of his immediate family his beloved wife, Janet Ray Freeby, his brother, Ray Freeby, and his sons, Larry and Scott Freeby survive. His wisdom, friendship and smile will be missed by his family, friends and community.

Fred was born in Topeka, Kansas July 27, 1929 to Frederick Raymond Freeby Sr. and Nana Mae Freeby. Fred met Jan during their middle school years in Manhattan. They graduated as sweethearts from Manhattan High School in 1947. They tied the knot on August 7, 1949 and recently celebrated 71 years of marriage as family members shared music and love outside of their window at Homestead Assisted Living Facility in Manhattan, Kansas.

Fred had a long career in sales with various companies, including Gibbs Clothing, Wassberg's Auto, JCPenney, and Waddell &amp; Reed Financial Advisors-from which he retired in 2001. He took great satisfaction in helping families reach their financial goals while enjoying rewarding relationships with his clientele.

Fred was involved in many service organizations including the Rotary Club, Manhattan Shrine Club, the ISIS Shrine in Salina, Jesters Club, the American Legion, and Masons. He was a charter member of the Solar Kiwanis Club of Manhattan and was honored with the title of Kiwanian of the year in a special ceremony held outside his window.

Fred enjoyed many other social activities with cherished friends over the years including golf, playing cards, dancing to big band music with his sweetheart, and attending McCain events. You could often find Fred at his family's events as their number one supporter. Fred's smile was never brighter than when he watched his lovely wife sing at a Blue Valley Memorial United Methodist church service.

Fred could be found on Poyntz Avenue in a variety of activities. His family would "buzz" Poyntz when they went for an evening drive. He participated in many parades driving a "vintage" car or beating his chest as a caged gorilla for the Shriners. He rowed down Poyntz in a boat as a member of the National Guard, helping community members escape the flood waters of 1951.

Fred's love for his family showed in many ways throughout his lifetime. Dad and Grandpa were the names he loved best. From Larry Freeby and Pat (Mallon) came David, his wife Ginger (Straw) and their daughter Emily; and Daniel Freeby. From Scott Freeby and Diane (Sweeney) came Anna, her husband Kent Buys, their sons Milo and Oliver; Claire, her husband Brantley Brooks, their children Maya, Jacob and soon to arrive Bryson Frederick, whose middle name will honor his Great Grandpa's legacy; and Parker Freeby.

Friends may call on Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas on Wednesday, September 9, from Noon to 8pm to view a special video of Fred's life in picture and song. A closed casket, social distancing, and masks will be required. The Freeby Family will not be in attendance.

Frederick Raymond Freeby Jr.

Born October 12, 1931. She left this world peacefully after a long illness on September 2, 2020. Liz and her brother grew up on the family farm in Herrington, Kansas.  Her parents, Louis and Winona Cowman were lifelong residents there.  It was during that time that Liz developed her love of animals, large and small.  She had a great love of rodeos and for many years attended the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas with friends from high school and college. A great student, she attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1953 with a degree in computer programming.  She started her first and ONLY job at Boeing in 1953 until her retirement.  During her time at Boeing, she mentored many young men and women who would later become part of the executive leadership team at Boeing.  In a world where company loyalty is harder to find, she was a successful and proud member of her team until her retirement.

 One of Liz’ great passions was photography.  She also loved gardens and flowers.  For years, her service as a volunteer at Botanica served as her photographic muse and most of Liz’ friends have collections of her beautiful photography on their walls. Liz had a particular love of dogs.  Throughout her early life, she bred exhibited Shetland Sheepdogs in Obedience Trials across the Midwest.  She was very successful.  But it was her last Sheltie, Jiggs, that capped off Liz’ years showing dogs.  Jiggs was her most winning dog and finished ‘Best in Trial’ on numerous occasions.  When Jiggs was older and retired from the ring, Liz began her service to the dog fancier community by volunteering her time and knowledge to both the Wichita Dog Training Club and the Wichita Kennel Club. In the late 70’s she became interested in Miniature Poodles, partnering with her longtime friend, Pat Deshler to increase her involvement.  She not only showed Poodles in Obedience, but also became a partner in the breeding and exhibiting of the Deshler line of Miniature Poodles.  She quite enjoyed the experience and it proved to be quite successful—they bred the winning Best of Show at the 1986 Poodle Club of America National Specialty.  She loved those dogs and continued to have miniature poodles as companions until her death. In 2005, Liz undertook another volunteer project, helping Beth and Jay Tully launch Cocoa Dolce Chocolates.  In her position of cheerleader, grocery runner and chief taster, she impacted the entire staff with her dry wit, funny expressions and all-around good nature.  When she could no longer physically manage day-to-day activities, she continued to support the growth of Beth’s business until Beth lost the business in 2016.

 Liz is survived by her nephews, Jim Cowman of Kingman, Arizona and Gary Cowman of Griffith, Indiana, as well as hordes of friends from every walk of life.  For all of those who knew Liz, you know she did not want to be fussed about or over.  She chose to forego a funeral and will be buried next to her parents in the Lost Springs Cemetery in Lost Springs, Kansas at a later date.  For anyone that would like to honor Liz and her life, a memorial has been established with the Poodle Club of America Foundation (www.poodleclubofamericafoundation.org) where Liz was a founding member, as well as the Kansas Humane Society (www.kshumane.org). The son of Frank Oliver Ford Sr. and the late Joyce Dembeck Ford he was born on June 20, 1960.

Frank grew up on the family farm, Peaceful Valley Farm in Westtown, NY. He was a graduate of Minisink Valley High School. He was a retired decorated 20 year Army Veteran who had served in Korea and several tours in Iraq. After his retirement from the Army he worked at Dillards in Manhattan, KS.

He is survived by his father Frank Oliver Ford Sr. of Goshen, NY; son Frank Raymond Ford his wife Rachael of Middletown, NY and Frank Raymond’s mother Debra McDonald; sisters Melody DeBlock and her husband Thomas of New Hampton, NY, Julie Vavricka and her husband Jess of Westtown, NY; his ex-wife Joyce Ford and family of Junction KS; nephews Jesse and Jake; nieces Lindsey and Jill; great-nieces Adeline, Charlotte and Alexia; Aunts Lois Schwab and Mary Ellen Calta; and many cousins.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Harry Lewis Woods, 73, Wamego, passed away Monday, August 31, 2020, at his home. He was born March 7, 1947 in Soda Springs, Idaho, the son of Joseph B. and Hazel Harriett (Bell) Woods. Harry graduated from Cheyenne Central High School in Cheyenne, Wyoming and attended Arizona State University before graduating from the University of Wyoming.

He worked in the arts and theater his entire working careers. He most lately worked as Theater Director at Mountain Theatre in Crested Butte, CO (2012 – 2019), prior to the Cheyenne Little Theatre in Cheyenne, WY, and the University of Wyoming Theater Department and the University of Kansas Theater Department.

Harry is survived by his sister, Elaine J. (Woods) Patterson and husband Willis R. Patterson, of Riverton, WY, and his nephew, Cody Patterson and his wife Katie Fitzpatrick, of Wamego, KS.

Harry’s wishes were to be cremated, with a private scattering service held later.

Thomas F. Berry, 93 of Abilene passed away Friday, August 28, 2020 at Salina Regional Hospital. He was born February 17, 1927 in Kilgore, Texas, the son of Eulon and Arry (Knight) Berry. He served his country 27 years, serving in WWII, Korean and Vietnam War. He became a master electrician in the Navy and was also an electrician for San Diego Gas &amp; Electric. He was united in marriage to Selma Meyer June 25, 1960. She preceded him in death March 5, 2014.

Thomas is survived by his children: Brad Berry (Joanna) of Abilene; Denise Corner of Wichita and Dennis (Connie) of Quincy, Illinois. Grandchildren: Nolan, Tate, Nicholas, Evan, Cameron and Skyler. Siblings: Gerald Berry, Fay Coffman, Royce Berry and Linda Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Selma, brother, Donald and a sister, Dorothy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, September 5, 2020 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Abilene. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Abilene. Robert D. Hoffman, Sr., 92 of Navarre passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. He was born August 11, 1928 in Abilene, the son of Earl and Vera (Poland) Hoffman. He attended the local Chapman School District and graduated from DCCHS in 1946. On June 8, 1950 he was united in marriage to Mary L Neises in Oxford, Kansas. She preceded him in death June 26, 2012. He farmed around the Navarre/Hope area.

Robert is survived by his sons; Bob Jr and his wife Kay of Hope, Ray and his wife Kathy of Abilene and Rick and his wife Laura of Hope; daughters Kathy Sulzman of Hays and Mary Blackwell of Abilene. Eighteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. Brother-in-laws; John Neises, Dave Black. Sister-in-laws; Reva Hoffman, Betty and husband Maynard Smith, Vivian and husband Truman Ward, Beverly and husband Don Scobee, Leola Neises and Jeannie Nunemaker. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Mary Louise; two grandchildren; Melinda Kay and Seth Lynn Hoffman.

Robert D. Hoffman, Sr., 92 of Navarre passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. He was born August 11, 1928 in Abilene, the son of Earl and Vera (Poland) Hoffman. He attended the local Chapman School District and graduated from DCCHS in 1946. On June 8, 1950 he was united in marriage to Mary L Neises in Oxford, Kansas. She preceded him in death June 26, 2012. He farmed around the Navarre/Hope area. Robert is survived by his sons; Bob Jr and his wife Kay of Hope, Ray and his wife Kathy of Abilene and Rick and his wife Laura of Hope; daughters Kathy Sulzman of Hays and Mary Blackwell of Abilene. Eighteen grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren. Brother-in-laws; John Neises, Dave Black. Sister-in-laws; Reva Hoffman, Betty and husband Maynard Smith, Vivian and husband Truman Ward, Beverly and husband Don Scobee, Leola Neises and Jeannie Nunemaker. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Mary Louise; two grandchildren; Melinda Kay and Seth Lynn Hoffman. Graveside Services for Robert will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Navarre City Cemetery with Pastor Erik Graefe officiating. Sanford is survived by his Four daughters: Linda Myers (Steven) of Peoria, Illinois; Christine Enger of Abilene; Janice Dester (Steven) of Solomon; Rhonda Keating of Abilene. One son, Bruce Enger of Abilene. Nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Two sisters: Dorothy Homestead and Hazel Holter, and three step-children. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Esther, daughter, Sandra Miller, son-in-law Chuck Keating and daughter-in-law Kelle Enger and four siblings.

Elsie Arlene Stanley Schley Ellis, age 77, of Council Grove, KS passed away in her sleep on August 27, 2020. She was born in Aberdeen, SD to Elwood and Mardyth Stanley on June 28, 1943. She graduated from Tulare, SD. Elsie had been a member of the Rebeccas. She worked various jobs, but was most proud of working for the Missouri Dept. of Corrections as a guard in Fulton, MO. She married Paul Schley on May 5, 1962 in Huron, SD and had 4 children. On December 2, 1989 Elsie was married to Dewayne Ellis in Fulton, MO. Elsie returned to Kansas in 2002 to live closer to her family.

Gale's life began on January 22, 1947, in Beckley, WV.  He was the son of Joseph Thomas Maynor and Jean (Reid) Maynor.  Gale was a graduate of Valley Center High School and Wichita State University in 1978.  He worked for Exxon/Mobil from 1971 until 1995.  Gale later went to work for ATT as an IT manager until his retirement in 2005.  He was united in marriage to Peggy Stover on September 18, 1999, in Wichita.  Gale was a member of Central Christian Church in Wichita, Gideon's International North Camp, and the Hash House Harriers running club when he worked overseas.  He enjoyed playing tennis, golf and especially loved his family.  

His loving family includes his wife Peggy of Wichita; children Mathew ( Bethany) Maynor of Kansas City, MO, Michelle (Richard) Bartlett of Wichita, step-son Jeremy ( Becky) Stover of Wichita, and step-daughter Tara Ritter of Derby; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother Dale (Janice) Maynor of Wichita and Peggy (Ken) Wise, Mathew and Michelle's mother.  Gale passed away at his home on August 31, 2020.  He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Lynn Maynor.

A visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday, September 4 at the Herington Chapel of the Yazel-Megli-Zeiner&nbsp;Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 5 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Herington. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Alan&nbsp;Stahlecker&nbsp;will lead the services.&nbsp;

The family has requested memorials to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Dickinson County 4-H Foundation or Hospice of Dickinson County.&nbsp;

Mourning Juanita are her daughter, Susan, and favorite son-in-law, Ray, of rural Herington; grandsons, Kristopher (Hailey) Mueller of Independence, Kan.; Jacob (Katie) Mueller of Springfield, Tenn.; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.&nbsp;

Juanita Sophia&nbsp;Gehrke&nbsp;was born on a farm near Ramona, Kan., on July 10, 1930. She was the youngest child of Carl and Sophia (Bruckner)&nbsp;Gehrke. She had seven older brothers: Arthur, Paul, Edwin, Leland, Oscar, Harvey and Lowell. All of them preceded her in death. A daughter, Barbara Coleen&nbsp;Tousignant, passed away in 1966.&nbsp;

Juanita was baptized into the Christian faith as an infant at the former St. Paul Lutheran Church of rural Ramona. She was confirmed into the Lutheran faith and remained faithful to Christ throughout her life.&nbsp;

She was married to Robert J.&nbsp;Tousignant&nbsp;on July 13, 1951, at the Morris County Courthouse in Council Grove, Kan., during the Great Flood of ’51. They lived in several locations during his U.S. Army career but settled in Herington where they remained for the rest of their lives. They celebrated 51 years of marriage before his passing in October 2002.&nbsp;

Prior to her marriage, Juanita worked at a hardware store in Emporia. While working at&nbsp;Duckwall’s&nbsp;variety store in Herington, her favorite job was wrapping gifts. She always made every gift look special. Juanita also enjoyed working at Stiles Thriftway grocery store as a checker, where she greeted everyone with a smile and always memorized the weekly ad prices to give the best service to customers.&nbsp;

Juanita loved living in the country, happily mowing a huge lawn, tending to flowers and a plentiful garden. She helped care for many animals on the farm, passing that love of animals to her daughter. Among her hobbies were crafting and sewing, making doll clothes, quilts and several prom dresses. Every birthday was a reason for her to make a specially decorated cake. She had a “can do” attitude, even reroofing the barn after storm damage. &nbsp;

She was a 4-H project leader for many years, served as an officer in the Lyon Extension Homemakers Unit and supported her church, Our Redeemer Lutheran.&nbsp;

After the sale of the farmland, the&nbsp;Tousignant&nbsp;couple lived on East Trapp Street in Herington, where they enjoyed having close neighbors. Due to health concerns, the couple moved to the Hilltop Apartments, enjoying daily meals and social life.&nbsp;

Following the death of her husband, Juanita continued to live at the Hilltop. She entered Herington’s assisted living unit in 2006. While a resident there, and later in the nursing home, she always enjoyed church services, bingo, card games, crafts and musical visitors.&nbsp;

Juanita was known as a sweet and loving lady, always willing to help out and care for others. She will be missed and mourned by many. But there also is rejoicing that she is now with God in heaven.&nbsp;

Emmylou Sarsozo, 45, of Overland Park, KS, formerly of Junction City and Manhattan, KS, passed away on August 24, 2020. Johnson Funeral Home of Junction City is assisting the family with cremation arrangements. A Funeral Mass on Thursday September 3,2020, 2:00pm at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 218 N. Washington St., Junction City, KS, with Fr. Gnanasekar Kulandai officiating. Her body will lie in state an hour prior at the Johnson Funeral Home, 203 N. Washington St., Junction City, KS. Cremation will follow the services. Emmylou was born on December 15, 1974, in Winnipeg, Canada, to Cesario Jr. and Emiliana (Maghacot) Sarsozo. Her father was in the United States Army and with his military obligation, the family traveled to many places. She and her family ultimately settled in Junction City/Manhattan, Kansas area when her father retired from the Army at Fort Riley. She attended church on base and taught CCD at the Morris Hill Chapel. She also attended Kansas State University where she earned her Bachelors degree in Hotel Management. She then later moved to Overland Park, Kansas where she resided for several years. Emmylou was a member of Tau Beta Sigma Sorority for marching band while attending KSU. She had many interests, but her favorite was traveling. She had an ongoing competition with her brother to see who could travel all the states in the U.S. first. Above all she loved her family. She was a loving daughter, caring sister, adoring aunt, and loyal friend. Emmylou is survived by her loving family: her father Cesario O. Sarsozo Jr. of Manhattan, KS; her brother Cesario M. Sarsozo of Manhattan, KS; niece, Jocilyn Sarsozo; and a host of loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Emiliana Sarsozo and sister, Emmilyn Sarsozo.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was born on November 26, 1936 in Manhattan, Kansas the son of Clyde Archer and Faye (Fairbanks) Whitney. Jim was a truck driver for many years &amp; later worked at a gun shop where his paychecks might have went back into his own purchases. On December 24, 1989, he was united in marriage to Alice Marie Tyler or Babe as he affectionately called her. Together, they raised Curtis, Richard, Clyde, Albert and Brenda. She preceded him in death in 2002. Jim interests included working on and enjoying old cars, collecting guns, traveling and his trips to the Friendly Cooker, his favorite restaurant. Above all, he loved being with his family, especially on the 4th of July and he never wanted to see them go back home. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Alice (Babe); and 4 brothers: Francis, Glenn, Steven and Bob. Survivors include his sons: Curtis Whitney of Manhattan; Richard Stewart and his wife Wanda of Lancaster, SC, Clyde Whitney and his wife Cindy of KC, MO and Albert Gagnon and his wife Lori of El Dorado, KS; daughter: Brenda Moss. Inez Frownfelter, 94, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Oakley Place in Topeka, KS. Inez was born August 2, 1926 in Lincolnville, KS, to August B. and Mollie A. (Brunner) Gehrke. Inez married Paul Martin Frownfelter on February 5, 1949. They resided in Junction City, where she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. When her sons were young she worked as an Avon Representative and later retired from Gibson's after twenty two years. Her true passion was her flower gardens. In 2003, she was recognized as Geary County Senior Master Gardener of the Year. She volunteered at her church for years caring for flowers. Up until last year, Inez still worked in her yard at the home she and Paul purchased in 1963. She was an avid supporter of Blue Jay football, music and theatre. Later she followed KSU sports. Productions at the C.L. Hoover Opera House would frequently find Inez in her designated seat. Robert John “Bob” Downing, age 80 of Leonardville, passed away peacefully at the Leonardville Nursing Home with family by his side on Friday, June 26, 2020.  Parkinson’s disease impacted his life here on earth but now he is at peace with Christ Jesus his Lord.

He was born in the Bronx, New York on May 6, 1940 to the late Ernest Downing and Mary Ann Cameron.

Growing up in New York City, he played stickball and thought milk came from the grocery store, only one day to find out that cows actually produced the milk!  Life was hard and made him tough on the exterior, but he always had a soft spot for those who needed help.  he was the type of guy that would give you the shirt off his back and had a special place for people who were underprivileged.

Bob was a proud veteran who served his country in the Navy as a radioman and was at port in Havanna, Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Hhe landed in Manhattan, Kansas with his first wife, Joan and raised his family in Randolph and later with Glenda and their blended family.  He had many different jobs over the years including operating the Randolph Country Store, but probably found the most satisfaction building, remodeling and constructing homes.  He was especially good at finish carpentry work.

He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman having fished the oceans, mountain streams, rivers and ponds.  He caught many fish in the cove at the Randolph State Park when water levels were higher and at Tuttle Creek on the Big Blue River.  Being on or near the water was a special place for him and brought him much peace and pleasure.

He modeled hard work, a sense of pride in doing the job right and looking out for those less fortunate than himself.  His love and affection for his family were always evident.

He is survived by Glenda Stockwell-Downing; children, John Downing (Lori) of Traverse City, Michigan, Barb Marlnee of Augusta, Kansas, Jim Downing (Robin) of Belleview, Florida and Brian Cox of Tyler, Texas; brother, Tony Downing of Acra, New York and nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan Crubel-Downing; son, Michael and granddaughter, Emily.

The family wishes to thank the caring staff at the Leonardville Nursing Home and Meadowlark Hospice for the compassionate and loving care they provided to him.

El’s life began on January 7, 1968 in Atka, Alaska.  He was the son of Elizar I. Philemonoff, Sr. and Fechla (Proskoff) Theboy.  El was united in marriage to Terri Diedriche on August 4, 1993 in Crescent City, CA.  He was a professional truck driver and loved driving big trucks.  El was a NASCAR fan, and especially loved Dale Earnhardt, SR and even had a black Camaro with the number 3 on the side.  He was skilled at working on cars and could always find a solution to any problem.

  His greatest joy was his family which includes his wife Terri of Herington; children Nikitta Philemonoff of Herington and Leianna Philemonoff of Washington and Robert May of Washington; grandchildren Zackery, Marina, Hailey, Kandice, Phoenix, Derek, Nathan and Zoey. 

 El passed away unexpectedly on August 26, 2020 at Herington Municipal Hospital.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and several siblings.

  A memorial celebration of his life will be held at a later date led by Pastor Darrell Geist.&nbsp; Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Herington is serving the family.&nbsp; Memorial expressions in El’s name should be directed to the funeral home to assist with expenses.&nbsp;

Calvin Levi “Bubba” Weese Jr., 69, passed away Sunday, August 30, 
2020, at his home in Great Bend. He was born November 24, 1950, in Pratt
 the son of Calvin and Helen (Miller) Weese.

Calvin has been a Great Bend resident since 1989, coming from 
Manhattan. He was a police officer for the city of Manhattan for twenty 
years, after retiring from the police department he worked for Wal-Mart 
in Great Bend for twenty years. He was a member of Church of Christ. He 
enjoyed going to Colorado and camping, 4-wheeling and shooting.

Survivors include one son Kenneth Johnson of Wichita; two daughters 
Tina (Bill) Kausler of Junction City and Nicole (John) Stroh of 
Manhattan; four brothers Greg (Cindy) Weese of Kansas City, MO, Jeff 
(Lanette) Weese, and Kevin Weese all of Great Bend, Sean (Debbie) Weese 
of St Louis, MO.; two sisters Sherry (Tom) Stewart of Emporia, and Kim 
Jordan of Great Bend; five grandchildren Megan Wood, Ryan Francis, 
Nicholas, Konner, Korey Johnson; three great-grandchildren Molly and 
Nathan Wood and Paxton Johnson.

Services will be announced at a later time by the Family. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.

Chuck was born on December 2, 1956, in Stuttgart, Germany, to Henry and Nancy (Walters) Mahieu. When he was a baby, his family moved to Junction City, Kansas, where his father retired. While growing up he was active in the Boy Scouts of America and participated in many scouting activities. Chuck attended Junction City schools and graduated from Junction City High School class of 1974. He went to further his education at Kansas State University. He was initiated into the Alpha Upsilon Chapter of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity on November 17, 1974 while attending K-State. Chuck also attended Manhattan Area Technical College. He graduated from the university in May of 1978. He started working for the City of Junction City in 1983 as an Assistant to the City Engineer. On December 9, 1989 he married his childhood sweetheart and best friend Teresa K. Burton. Chuck was an integral part of the scouting and the Junction City communities. Raymond Delno Blankley, 79, of Louisville, Kansas, died Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at his home following a fight with cancer.&nbsp; He was a life-long resident of the area.

Raymond was born July 12, 1941, in Louisville, the son of Ephraim and Gladys Hebrew Blankley.&nbsp; He attended local schools and graduated in 1959 from Wamego High School.&nbsp; He served in the Kansas National Guard from 1963 until 1969 and marched in President Eisenhower’s funeral detail.

Ray was the Quarry Supervisor for Bayers Construction Company for over thirty years.&nbsp; He also was a machine operator for Viking and in his earlier years worked for several local farmers. Raymond loved to fish and go hunting.&nbsp; He especially enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren.

Raymond met the love of his life, Joleen Rae Havenstein, through his brother, and they were married on October 1, 1965 in Alma.&nbsp; Joleen preceded him in death on January 11, 2020.

Raymond is survived by his children; Tim Blankley (Jackie), St. Petersburg, Florida, Carl Blankley, Wamego, and Diane Dawson, Wamego; his five grandchildren, Jessica McIntosh (Chris), Joshua Blankley (Misty), Trinity Counts (Jeff), Trisha Bulger (Jake), and Meghan Curtis; fourteen great-grandchildren; his siblings, Helen Wheeler, Louisville, John Blankley (Billie), Manhattan, and Wayne Blankley, Westmoreland.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law Dean Dawson; and his siblings, Margaret Colson, Mildred Gilleece, Florence Smith, Walter Blankley, and Keith Blankley.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego.&nbsp; Reverend Jol Klein will be officiating.&nbsp; Burial, with military honors, will follow at Louisville Cemetery. &nbsp;Raymond will lie-in-state on Monday beginning at 3:00 pm and the family will greet friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.&nbsp; They suggest memorial contributions to the Land of Purple Paws animal shelter or Elara Caring Hospice, and those may be sent in care of the mortuary.

Barry Richard Smith, age 63, went to be with the Lord on June 28, 2020 after a short illness.

Barry was born in Charleston, South Carolina to Louis and Loretta Smith. He attended schools in Charleston and graduated from Burke High School in 1975. He later went on to obtain a BA in Psychology from Ashford University in 2010.

Barry joined the U.S. Army in 1976 and honorably served for nearly 15 years. Barry received awards such as the Army Commendation medal and the Army Achievement medal amongst other awards. While in the Army, Barry served in South Korea, Greece, Hungary, Germany, New York, and Kansas.

Barry eventually settled in Junction City, Kansas and worked for the school district 475 for several years. Barry eventually left the school district in order to help start and develop the program for the group home Positive Strokes for Youth/New Directions Youth Residential Program alongside his late wife, LaVerne Grant-Smith. Barry eventually made his way to becoming the Program Administrator. Barry had a passion for working with youth and helping them realize their potential and identifying and providing the tools for the youth to succeed. Barry received numerous awards from the community and from children’s agencies throughout the state. Barry retired from New Directions in 2017 after working there for 20 years, after which, he relocated to South Carolina and took a job position at the VA hospital in Charleston, SC. Barry loved the Lord and church was very important to Barry as was his relationship with God who was the center of his life. Barry and his late wife were founding members of The New Church of the Living God where he was an active in the church choir and especially in the men’s choir where he is known for his distinctive baritone voice and energy. Barry joined LaVerne Grant-Smith in marriage on August 11, 1997 in Junction City, KS. They shared 16 years loving years of marriage before her death in 2013, Barry leaves behind a legacy of strength, perseverance, tenacity and humor.

He will be cherished by his children Summer (Chad) Bennett, Autumn Fort, Jarrod Smith, and Jordan Smith Sr. Grandchildren: Keyshawn Bentley, Noah Bennett, Gabriel Bennett, Jordan Smith Jr and Amelia Kelani Smith. Two siblings; David Smith and Daria Smith-Wright (Bernard) of Charleston, SC. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Debra A. Smith of Junction City, KS, Linda (George) Rogers of Waldorf, MD, Lorraine (Roger) Hammond of Junction City, and brother-In-law: Robert Grant Jr of Springfield, MO. Barry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 16 years LaVerne Grant-Smith; his parents, Louis and Loretta Smith; and brother, Gary L. Smith and his Uncle Robert Gathers. As well as mother and father in law; Robert Sr. and Helga Grant.

The Homegoing Celebration will be held at 11:30 a.m. on August 29, 2020 at The New Church of the Living God with the Bishop James E. Johnson officiating. Barry Richard Smith

Warren William Wang, age 94 of Clay Center, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the Wakefield Care and Rehab.

He was born on July 19, 1926 at the Clay County Hospital, the son of Leonel and Bertha (Kusy) Wang.  He attended grade school in Bala and two years of high school in Clay Center before leaving for service in 1944.

Warren was a WWII Veteran with the United States Navy 69th Battalion serving as a Navy Seabee and was on the island of Okinawa during combat.

He married Dorothy (Irene) Nelson in 1949 and they later divorced but remained friends.

Warren worked a variety of jobs throughout his life.  He was a police officer in Manhattan, painter at Hutchinson/Mayrath, iron worker at Clay Center Salvage and was self employed doing odd jobs.

He is survived by two sons, Steven Wang and wife Terri of Oolagah, Oklahoma and Russell Wang and wife Kayla of Clay Center; four granddaughters and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Merle Wang; one son, Roger Wang and one grandson, Cory Wang.


Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2020 at the Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Paul Tessaro officiating.  The Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
