Lauren VanArsdale Jackson, 38, of Junction City, KS passed away Friday, July 3, 2020. Lauren was born in Junction City, KS on February 9, 1982, to Rosalind (Muse) Knight and Curtis Jackson. He attended Manhattan High School, and then Manhattan Technical College. He loved to hang out with this family, cook, game and watch and play sports. He is survived by his parents Rosalind Knight and Curtis Jackson, his Fiancee Leslie Thomas, his two sons Josiah Hall and Nehemiah Jackson, his brothers Jesse Jackson, Travis Jackson, and Cody Jackson, the mothers of his children Taisha Thorton and Jalisa Dolores Carson. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Jessie and Esker Jackson Sr. and Judge Muse and Laura Hill, his Aunt Christine Jackson, and his Uncles Hannibal Kanes, Bruce Muse, Barney Orin Muse, Harry Muse, Gearld Muse, Esker Jackson Jr., Raymond Jackson, and Eddie Jackson. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2020, at Carlson's Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home &amp; Cremation in Manhattan, KS. Lauren VanArsdale Jackson

Mary Pearl Fleming, 82, of St. George passed away on July 1, 2020 at Stormont Vail Hospital. She was a long-time member of the community.

She was born in rural Lyon County on June 13, 1938 to Paul and Vivian Sommer. She spent her formative years in a one room school house and went on to graduate from Alma High School in the Spring of 1956.

She met the love of her life, Virlin Lee Fleming, while on a stroll with a friend in downtown Alma. She would often reminisce about watching him drive by and later climb into his car to personally guide him to Lake Wabaunsee. It was from that moment on that they became inseparable and would eventually marry on May 26, 1956. They spent the next 59 years together until his death on December 11, 2015. Mary and Lee would go on to have four children. She was a homemaker and farmer. She spent numerous hours milking cows, feeding hogs, and caring for bucket calves. She would assist in the maintenance of a yearly vegetable garden and reap the benefits of it by canning various goods. She was an excellent cook and made the best fried chicken, mushrooms, and homemade ice cream.

She loved animals. It did not matter whether it was big or small, furry or winged as she would make sure they were taken care of. She did not discriminate and no animal went hungry if it crossed her path. She especially loved her dog, Sawyer, who was her companion up until the time of her passing. Aside from her love for her family, animals, and life in general, she had an affinity for chocolate and ice cream. Not a day would go by that she did not have either. She even went so far as to have a stash of candy in her overnight bag for recovery purposes while in the hospital.

She is survived by her children; Denise Torrey (Dudley), St. George, Kevin Fleming of St. George, Vicki Westgate (Scott) of Kansas City, KS, and Colleen Lubbers (Jason) of St. George as well as grandchildren Caleb Torrey (Natalie), Jess Torrey (Jennifer), Megan Todd (Jared), Derrick Fleming (Stacie), Brandon Fleming (Jennifer), Zach Fleming (Samantha), Waylon Fleming (Rhiannon), Clayton Westgate (Nicole), Kelsey Girvin (John), and Wyatt Lubbers. Great-grandchildren are Avery, Clarissa, Vivian, Ruby, Tristyn, Aidan, Maddox, Marcello, Isabel, Tucker, Hallie, Caitlyn, Chloe, Conway, Cole, Wyatt, Jacob, Preston, Lake, Finn, and Hunter. A brother, Dave Sommer (JoAnn) of Osceola, Missouri; and sister-in-law, Barb Sommer of Council Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles Sommer.

The family will greet friends for a Celebration of Life from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego.&nbsp; A time of remembrance will be held at 3:00p.m. Jennifer Woods will &nbsp;be the Celebrant. Margie’s life began on April 2, 1930 in Pilsen.  She was the daughter of George and Amelia (Neuwirth) Vinduska.  Margie attended parochial school at St. John Nepomucene Catholic School in Pilsen.  She was untied in marriage to Maurice Stroda on August 31, 1948 at St. John Nepomucene Church.  Margie was a lifetime member of the church and a member of the St. Ann’s Altar Society.  She was a mother, wife and homemaker who took great pride in raising her eight children.

Margaret Frances (Vinduska) Stroda - April 2, 1930 - July 4, 2020 (age 90)

Travis Allen Belville, or “Trash” as he was best known to his friends and family, age 28 of Olsburg, died Friday, June 26, 2020.



He was born on January 21,1992 in Manhattan, the son of Sidney “Butch” Allen and Dawn Raena (Childress) Belville.&nbsp;

Travis was a graduate of Blue Valley High School in Randolph, Kansas where he met the love of his life, Danielle Jo Braddock.  On August 27, 2016 they were married at Olsburg, Kansas and began their married life together.

 

Travis worked as a construction foreman for Double Check Company in Manhattan.&nbsp; He enjoyed going to the trails with friends, to RZR competitions and doing mechanic work on any and everything he could find. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Travis’ favorite thing was making people laugh, especially when they were irritated with him. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Trav, knew that if he was taking the time to irritate you, it meant he liked you.  If you needed help, you called Trash.  He would be right over.

In February of this year Travis took on his most important job as his daughter Brogen was born.  Trav was a loving Daddy and Brogen was clearly the light of his life.  Together with Dani, their young family was healthy and happy.



Travis is survived by his wife, Danielle Jo Belville of Olsburg; their four month old daughter, Brogen Lee Belville of Olsburg; his parents, Sidney and Dawn Belville of Manhattan; a mother-in-law, Debra Tittel and husband Gary of Riley; a father-in-law, Todd Braddock of Olsburg; one sister, Crystal Adolph and husband Keane and Keane’s son AJ of Manhattan; one brother-in-law, Tyson Meader and wife Becca and their children, Trinity, Trenton and Tucker of Leonardville; his grandmother, Gale Simmons of Westmoreland; Granny-in-law Carol Stryker of Randolph; Grandma and Grandpa-in-law Charlotte &amp; Dennie Braddock of Olsburg; Great Grandma-in-law Willa Erickson of Olsburg; and countless friends and their littles who loved him so.

He was preceded in death by his Grandpa Charles Childress, Grandpa Dale Belville, Grandma Luella Yates and her husband Ronald.

He was united in marriage to Susie Wilma Ortmann on July 25, 1949. This union was blessed with 12 children. He was a crop and livestock farmer. Walter was a member of Emmaus Mennonite Church. He enjoyed reading, teaching Sunday school class, and was devoted to his family. His loving family includes his sons, Robert (Marilyn) Busenitz of Dallas, Texas, Stephen Busenitz of Whitewater, Mark (Joan) Busenitz of Hulett, Wyoming, Ruben (Diana) Busenitz of Busby Montana, Ethan (Denise) Busenitz of Whitewater, Earl (Cori) Busenitz of Hulett, Wyoming; daughters, Fern (Richard) Rudolph of Meadows of Dan, Virginia, Elizabeth (James) Pearce of Whitewater, Lillian (Daniel) Jerred of Valpraiso, Nebraska, Pearl (Kip) Nanninga of Castle Rock, Colorado; son-in-law, Dave Funk of Newton; daughter-in-law, Rachel (Gordon) Busenitz of Newton, 50 grandchildren, and 74 great- grandchildren. Alfred “Buzz” Heidel, age 83, died on Monday July 1, 2020 at his residence following a brief illness. He was born on April 30, 1937 in rural Manhattan, Kansas the son of Richard Rudolph &amp; Clara Cecelia (Moske) Heidel the youngest of 7 children. Buzz graduated from Lucky High School with the class of 1956. He was a lifetime farmer and rancher in the Ashland Bottoms community near Manhattan. Buzz had a strong love and passion for the land and the livestock he cared for, and for the wildlife that surrounded him. When time allowed Buzz enjoyed hunting with his brother Sam and many close friends. He was an avid and successful tracker and wildlife rustler. He didn’t have any interest in shooting but loved to participate in the hunt. Buzz also was fortunate to have worked together with his family, and especially his brothers, for his whole life. They were a ranching and farming dynasty that were devoted to working the land and cattle. Buzz had a true passion for Allis Chalmers tractors and Hereford cattle. All part of the country life he lived and loved. He was a true, dear friend to many and enjoyed making people laugh and smile. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings: Bernard (1951), Arthur “Glenn” (2004), Edwin (2005), Wayne (2011), Dennis “Sam” (2014) and Veronica Barry (2014). Survivors include his special lady: Dianna Fay and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Donald Wayne Bryson, age 94 of Riley, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House.

He was born on August 28, 1925 in Riley, the son of Lonie McKinley and Hattie Edith (Craft) Bryson.

On March 21, 1947, he married Betty Louise Phalen.  She preceded him in death on January 4, 1999.  He graduated from Riley Rural High School in Riley, KS in 1942, and then attended welding school in Topeka.  Upon graduation he traveled to San Francisco to work as a welder in the shipyard.

When he turned 18 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served from October 24, 1943 to October 5, 1945.  He received a purple heart for injuries he suffered during battles of Peleliu and Okinawa.

Don was a rural mail carrier and a member of the American Legion.  He enjoyed fishing, watching the Chicago Cubs and following his grandchildren’s activities.

He is survived by two sons, David Bryson and wife Barb of Overland Park and Randy Bryson of Riley; one daughter, Cindy Rignell and husband Bobby of Riley; seven grandchildren, Cambria Fleming, Kimberly Hunter, Kelsey Robinson, Jessica Bryson, Trini Pilgrim, Lonnie Rignell and Brett Rignell and twelve great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lorrene Coder and two great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 2020 at the Riley Cemetery with Pastor Gerry Sharp. Nina Mae (Musgrove) Todd, age 86, of Manhattan, Kansas passed away June 22, 2020 at Collins House, Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, Kansas. Nina was born May 8, 1934 in Mankato, Kansas. She was the ninth of ten children born to Orley and Susie Musgrove. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and eight siblings. On September 14, 1958, she was united in marriage to James (Jimmie) Todd. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage together and shared homes in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Kansas. Jimmie preceded Nina in death on November 1, 2019. She is survived by her daughter, Becky Steelsmith (Curt) of Manhattan; grandson, Bradley Steelsmith (Kali Orrick) of Manhattan; one sibling, Shirley (Russ) Lewis of Wamego, Kansas and many nieces and nephews. Nina worked for Bird Music as business manager for many years before retiring.

Nina loved Southern Gospel music and spent many hours together with Jimmie watching videos of their favorite groups. Nina also loved instrumental music of all types. Nina learned at a very early age to play the piano by ear. While in school, she learned to play the saxophone. During her high school years, she earned many awards for vocal and saxophone, solo and group competitions. She was also accomplished on the organ and accordion. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease several years earlier, in 2017 she moved to Collins House for the special care needed. She was known in Collins as “the ornery one” as she always enjoyed joking and kidding around with everyone. Lora Ann Shelton, 43, of Fostoria, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas after a courageous battle with cancer.

Lora was born on November 18, 1976 in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Keith and Carla (Shrimplin) Pressler. &nbsp;She attended school in many states, but mostly in Wamego, Kansas.

Lora worked as a business manager for Coldwell Banker all the way through her battle with cancer. &nbsp;In her younger years she also worked as a waitress and bartender and for a greenhouse. &nbsp;She was especially close to her grandmother, Stella Pressler, for a time she even lived with Stella to help take care of her.

Lora loved to play softball, go to casinos and play BINGO. &nbsp;She enjoyed fishing, camping, and watching NASCAR, especially Dale Jr. #88, and Chiefs football. &nbsp;She liked riding on the Harley with Todd participating in various benefit runs. &nbsp;She loved spending time with family and friends. Most importantly Lora loved her family, going to her daughters Volleyball, Basketball, Cheer and Track events; she even coached the teams sometimes. &nbsp;She loved to go on vacations and travel with her family going to the beach and ocean. Lora had a strong belief in her faith.

Lora married Todd Leslie Shelton on June 16, 2001. &nbsp;He survives in their home.

Lora is also survived by her daughters, Shianne and Alyssa Shelton, also of the home; her parents, Keith and Carla Pressler; her grandmother, Loretta Burry; her siblings, Paul (Tracy) Pressler, Eudora, Kansas, Sarah Stueve, Liberty, Missouri; her parents in law, Les and Janice Shelton, Westmoreland; siblings-in-law, Vicki (Gary) Holt, Darla Allen and Allen (Leslie) Shelton, all of Westmoreland; &nbsp;nieces and nephews Johnny, Evan and Kaitlynn Allen and Marcus and Colby Shelton. &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Stella Pressler and Richard Shrimplin; her father Larry Stueve and a stillborn son, Todd “TJ” Shelton.&nbsp;

Carmel High School and a graduate of Wichita Business College.  She was united in marriage to Monty Stuchlik on September 2, 1967 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Wichita.  Sarah worked for Pilsen State Bank in Lincolnville, a bookkeeper and even a nanny in Wichita but her only true vocation was as a loving wife and caring mother.  She did not work outside of the home until the children were grown.  Sarah volunteered at her children’s schools and volunteered at church because family was everything to her.  She was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Herington and a member of the Altar Society. 

 Sarah was very musical, she played piano, organ and accordion.  She loved music and musical theatre.  Sarah was a horse racing enthusiast and Kansas City Royals fan.  She enjoyed reading, sewing and putting together puzzles.  Sarah’s greatest joy was her children and grandchildren and she cherished every minute of that time.

  Her loving family includes her husband Monty Stuchlik of Lost Springs; children Candace (Michael) Thode of Valley Center, Daniel (Melissa) Stuchlik of Pilsen, and Ross (Megan) Stuchlik of Lost Springs; grandchildren Tanner, Allie, Colt and Dakota Stuchlik and brother Kenneth Fortney of Wichita.  Sarah passed away on Monday June 29, 2020 at Newton Medical Center.  She is preceded in death by her parents, grandchildren Cheyenne, Cole and Hunter Stuchlik, three brothers and two sisters.

He was a metal fabricator for Frisbee Construction in Gypsum Kansas and for White Brothers Construction in Kanopolis, Kansas.&nbsp;He lived on his property with his best buddy Bubba Louie in Carneiro, Kansas and loved to collect and pick and maintain the school house.&nbsp;His true passion was Harley Davidson motorcycles.

His loving family includes his daughter, Jamie Kay (James) Chamberlin of Topeka;&nbsp;brother, Ben (Kathleen) Knight of Patchogue, New York;&nbsp;sisters, Luann Knight (Randy Cash) of Salina; Donita Knight of Topeka; Jan (Danny) Williams of Mountain Home, Arkansas; Terresia Lujan of Newton; Grandson,&nbsp;Blake L. years together.
 He spent his career as a credit representative for General Motors 
(GMAC) as well as a loan officer for Mid-America Credit Union. These 
positions gave Al an opportunity to create a huge network of friends and
 acquaintances with ties to the automobile industry over the years. As 
the auto industry changed, so did Al’s job, which found he and Karen 
making their home in several communities during their married life, to 
include Hays, Salina, and Rose Hill in Kansas, before retiring to 
Battlefield, Missouri, leaving behind a cadre of beloved friends, 
neighbors and co-workers with each departure.
 Al’s larger than life personality endeared him to all those who knew
 him. Friends and family alike agreed that his zest for life was what 
set him apart from everyone else. Al was a huge baseball fan and loved 
talking about his days as a pitcher on the Junction City Blue Jays 
hometown team in his younger years, and the many games he pitched at 
Rathert Stadium. An avid sports fan, he spent countless hours cheering 
on his beloved Jayhawks, Royals, and finally his Super Bowl Champion 
Chiefs. He relished the fact that many thought he looked a lot like the
 Kansas City Chiefs coach, Andy Reid. He was always ready to strike his
 “coach” pose for a photo op when requested. His love for “all things 
collectible” kept the house full of sports memorabilia and apparel that 
he was happy to share with family and friends whenever they visited. 
The last several years of Al’s life he was able to enjoy and participate
 in the major achievements of all his favorite teams that every sports 
fan hopes to enjoy. He attended many games for his favorite college 
basketball team, the KU Jayhawks, and cheered them on to many Big 12 
Championships. Another special memory will always be the 3-generation 
family trip to attend a Kansas City Royals World Series game. They won 
the game, lost the Series, but won it all the next year. All was right 
with the world. The family gathered in Battlefield in 2020 to help Al 
cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs to a much-anticipated Super Bowl 
championship, allowing him to strike his infamous “Andy Reid” pose as 
the winning coach. 
 His love for landscaping was always evident with his “green thumb” 
for growing over 100 unique cactus varieties over the years. His 
beautiful yard, koi ponds, and yard décor were a testament to his pride 
to achieve a picture-perfect outdoor space to be enjoyed by everyone. A
 lover of music, you could always find him in the backyard listening to 
his favorite tunes while enjoying his favorite beverage. Al’s passion 
for yard décor and all things mystical were a matter of difference of 
décor opinion between he and Karen. Al’s great love for wizards and 
gargoyles would cause you to find many statuettes adorning the fence 
posts and tables, much to Karen’s dismay. The crocodile head that 
floated in the koi pond served as a constant reminder of his 
tongue-in-cheek humor. 
 One of Al’s greatest joys was sharing in the lives of his children, 
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and Karen enjoyed many trips 
over the years to attend school functions, track meets, and ball games 
to show their support, as well as family get-togethers and celebrations.
 His love for animals was well known, and he was never without one of
 his canine companions at his side over the years. There were many, and
 they will all be waiting to greet him at the end of the rainbow bridge.
 His love for his pets was unbounding, and he spent countless hours 
training, teaching, loving, and nurturing them back to health when 
needed. 
 He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Virginia, daughter, Kathy, and son, Kris.
 Al is survived by his beloved wife, Karen, and sons, Ken (Stacey) 
Jackson, Osborne, Kansas, Kerry (Cindy) Jackson, Lincoln, Kansas, Kelly 
Jackson, Asheville, North Carolina and Kevin Jackson, Salina, Kansas; 
eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Gayla (Ron) Dewitt,
 and brother, Robert Jackson, both of Topeka, Kansas; a host of nieces 
and nephews; cousins; mother-in-law, Esther Tunnell; brother-in-law 
David (Trudy) Tunnell; special family friend, Kimbray Nunnold, and 
beloved canine companions, Riley and Bailey, who dearly miss him.
 A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, 
July 3, 2020, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 703 
S. Hickory, Mount Vernon, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 
10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the Church. Burial will follow
 at the Miller Memorial Gardens, Miller, Missouri. 
 Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri or
 Integrity Home Care &amp; Hospice in care of the funeral home.

 </figure>Henry Darrell "Al" Jackson passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at 
his home in Battlefield, Missouri, at the age of 84, after a brief 
battle with cancer.
 Al, the son of Wilburn and Irma (Dettke) Jackson, was born in Santa 
Monica, California, on May 24, 1936. He was a 1954 graduate of Junction
 City High School in Junction City, Kansas. He married Virginia (Meyer)
 Jackson in 1955, and to this union six children were born. They were 
divorced many years later. In August of 1980, he was united in marriage

Ms. Tina Renee Johnson was born December 15, 1963 in Junction City, Kansas. She was the daughter of RuthFayejean Hammond and Charles Milton Johnson. She graduated from Junction City High School as Senior Class President in 1982. As a lifelong resident of Junction City, Tina worked in customer services for most of her career. She then became a caregiver for her mother until she passed away in 2000. Tina returned to the work force and worked as Assistant Manager at Taco Bell, for a while, then went to work at the Geary Community Hospital. After leaving the hospital, she became the Manager at the Food Pantry until she became sick. Tina was a member of New Church of the Living God where she participated with the Children’s Church Ministry, Housekeeping Ministry, Hospitality Ministry and the Care Ministry. Survivors include one son, Charles T. Johnson of Junction City; two sisters, Theresa Rose (Marcus) of Junction City, Tonette Hammond of Junction City, and her brother Roger William "Tim" Hammond Sr. (Loraine) of Junction City. Other survivors include four nephews, Joshua and wife Erica Rose, Justin Rose, Julian and his wife Jessica Rose, and Roger Jr. and wife Barbara Hammond and one niece Jasmine Hammond. She was born August 18, 1939 in Clay Center, the daughter of Walter and Marie (Carpenter) Harrison. She attended Myersdale Grade School and graduated from Wakefield High School with the class of 1957. On July 8, 1958 Karen was united in marriage to Harvey D. Elsasser. Karen was a medical secretary at Ft. Riley for many years and was a medical receptionist for Dr. Hamel in Chapman for many years. She enjoyed painting, humming birds, quilting, and her flower garden. Karen is survived by her two loving children Dan Elsasser and his wife Melody of Abilene, Sandy Clemence and her husband Mike of rural Abilene, brother Walt Harrison, Jr of Sahuarita, Arizona, three grandchildren Michela Brown (David) of Abilene, Samantha Horn (Tim) of Abilene, Amanda Kohman (Matt) of Abilene, and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Harvey on January 31, 2018, granddaughter Mykel Nicole Clemence and her parents. Her final resting place will be in the Highland Cemetery at Wakefield, Kansas. Jay Puckett died, suddenly, at his home outside Council Grove Saturday evening June 27, 2020. He was 74 years old.

Services will be Wednesday July 1, 2020 at 8 p.m. at the shelter house of First Baptist Church. Dress is casual, bring your own chair or blanket and bug spray. No flowers please, memorial contributions to First Baptist Church for improvement and maintenance of the church grounds.

Jay Dean Puckett was born June 12, 1946 in Garrison, Kansas to Jessie Dial and Gerald Puckett. His childhood was spent on his parents’ farm in the company of his sister, Mimi, and numerous cousins. A farm accident caused him to spend time in Kansas City, Mo at St Luke’s Hospital and forced him inside where he picked up a love of reading. The family spent some time in Nevada before returning to Kansas where Jay graduated from St. George High School before going on to attend Kansas State University to study mechanical engineering. He spent time in Wichita driving race cars, both on an oval track and drag racing. At this time he drove freight for Mistletoe Express. After returning to Manhattan he worked for Byers construction. As a young man Jay helped build his parents’ house at Tuttle creek Reservoir with his father and uncle Don. He spent time in the Yukon Territory of Canada where his sister Mimi settled. He helped her and her family build a house and clear land there.

In 1979 Jay married Elaine Campbell and moved to Waverly, Kansas. He continued to work construction, building road bridges and commercial projects. In 1982 the growing family moved to their current address outside Council Grove. Jay partnered with Bill Downes creating BJ Construction. Jay soon began work on a house for his family. Building after work mostly on his own he finished the current family home in 1997. BJ Construction handled residential building and remodeling in and around Council Grove until Bill moved to Colorado in 1990. After this Jay continued to work freelance until he retired in 2008. Jay supported his children in their 4-H pursuits by serving on the fair board. Around 2000 he, Elaine and Quinten began attending First Baptist Church of Council Grove. Jay went on to serve as a trustee and more recently as a deacon.

Jay enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. His dad took Jay fishing on the Blue River at a very young age and the sport was a lifelong passion that he enjoyed as often as he could, especially after retirement. He joined his cousin Larry Abell for elk hunting trips in the bitterroot wilderness in Idaho for over 20 years. Jay also hunted whitetail deer closer to home. He enjoyed bird hunting and kept and trained German Shorthair Pointers for a time. Jay’s other big love was reading. This began as a boy when he read the entire encyclopedia while convalescing and grew into a love that was passed to his daughters. Jay enjoyed reading about history, particularly WWII, and adventures true and fiction.

Jay is survived by his sister Mimi Elliot of Dawson City, Yukon, Canada; his wife Elaine Puckett of Council Grove; Daughters Amber Kovac (Nathan) of Prairie Village and Tara Thomsen (Dave) of Ft Hood, Texas; Son Quinten Puckett of Holton; and five granddaughters: Danica, Harlow, and Thea Thomsen and Cora and Wendy Kovac.

He joined his cousin Larry Abell for elk hunting trips in the bitterroot wilderness in Idaho for over 20 years. Jay also hunted whitetail deer closer to home. He enjoyed bird hunting and kept and trained German Shorthair Pointers for a time. Jay’s other big love was reading. This began as a boy when he read the entire encyclopedia while convalescing and grew into a love that was passed to his daughters. Jay enjoyed reading about history, particularly WWII, and adventures true and fiction.Jay is survived by his sister Mimi Elliot of Dawson City, Yukon, Canada; his wife Elaine Puckett of Council Grove; Daughters Amber Kovac (Nathan) of Prairie Village and Tara Thomsen (Dave) of Ft Hood, Texas; Son Quinten Puckett of Holton; and five granddaughters: Danica, Harlow, and Thea Thomsen and Cora and Wendy Kovac.

Trevor Dayton Adams Wullenweber, age 13 (born March 5 2007) of Milford, went to do a heavenly dance with the Angels. Trevor never knew an enemy, his infectious smile and laugh would always light up a room. Like most boys his age, he loved Pokemon and would always find a way to play, regardless of the time or place (even in class). He also loved My Hero Academia, with it emblazoned on his favorite clothes. Recently Trevor found his passion, singing. Trevor loved to sing in choir at Junction City Middle School, recently winning a singing championship. He was known to record himself singing original songs, something that he learned from his father and that made him very happy. To match the singing, Trevor loved to dance. He loved to burst out in dance, no matter the time or place. Most importantly, Trevor loved everyone he met. He was outgoing, kind, and fiercely loyal. He would never shy away from hugs, holding peoples’ hands, and showing people how much he truly cared. He especially loved his brother and sister, who he talked to almost every day. Trevor will be missed for everything that made him Trevor: his singing, his dancing, his love for bright clothes, his endless knowledge, and his love for all animals. He is survived by his mother, Amy Adams-Estrada of Milford KS, his father and step-mother, James Wullenweber IV and Mia Straub, of Hillsboro KS, his brother and sister Trenton and Isabella. He is also survived by maternal grandparents, Dianna and Harold Rivera, of Milford Ks, and Darrel and Sheri Adams of Nebraska, and his paternal grandparents, James Wullenweber III, of Hillsboro KS. Nancy Gevon (Holt) Whitesell, age 61 of Olsburg, passed away June 19, 2020.



She was born on July 24, 1958 in Manhattan, the daughter of Carl Alvin and Gevon Gwenlyn (Carlson) Holt.

 

Nancy is survived by one daughter, Dawnda Coyle of Beattie; two grandchildren, Katelynne and Blake; two brothers Gary Holt and Vicki and Bruce Olsen and Sandy and her sister-in-law, Sue Olsen.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Coyle; one granddaughter, Trinity Coyle and one brother, C. Dudley Olsen.

Margaret Ann Roth, age 95, passed away Friday, June 26, 2020 at the Leonardville Nursing Home.

She was born on January 7, 1925 in Clay Center, the daughter of Frank August and Lena Annetta (Benninga) Rahe.  She attended Alert Grade School and graduated from Leonardville Rural High School and Westmar College.  She taught high school business classes until her marriage.

On October 16, 1949, she was married to John William Roth.  He preceded her in death in 2000.

She was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church and was active in numerous church activities, including being the church pianist.  She was also involved in EHU, Farm Bureau and the family farm operation.

She is survived by three children, Ron Roth and wife Marilyn of Green, Rob Roth and wife Cindy of Green and JoAnn Lips and husband Kent of Clay Center; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at the Ebenezer Cemetery with Rev. Lillian Flegle officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Leonardville Nursing Home and Gideon’s International.  Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Joseph Leland Wait, age 51 of Clay Center, passed away Friday, June 26, 2020 at the Salina Regional Health Center.

He was born on June 23, 1969 in Clay Center, the son of Leland McKinley and Jolene Kay (Cramer) Wait.  He graduated from Clay Center Community High and Beloit Vo-Tech as a diesel mechanic.

Joe drove a semi for James Trucking out of Wakefield and Girton’s.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, his basset hounds and being a mechanic.

He is survived by two sisters, Penny Smith of Clay Center and Karla Choitz and husband Darrell of Ellsworth; his brother-in-law, Dan Cyre of Jamestown; his aunts and uncles, Fred and Dee Wait of Miltonvale and Treva and Johnny Hahn of Napa, Idaho; his very best friend, Brad Reed of Clay Center; his close first cousin, Larry Wait of Tulsa, Oklahoma and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sheri Cyre.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2020 at the Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Rob Stewart officiating.

She was born August 8, 1933 in Salina the daughter of John T. and Rebecca (Giersche) Kelly. Johna spent most of her life in the Solomon area graduating from Solomon High School. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Solomon, enjoyed flower arranging, cooking and coloring adult coloring books. On January 31, 1952 Johna was united in marriage to Merlin Moorman in Abilene. He survives of the home. Other survivors include her daughter Marsha and her husband Scott Carney of Solomon, sons, Mike and his wife Linda Moorman of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, Mitch and his wife Karen of Emporia, sisters Jean Luke of Wichita, Marilyn Hoisington of Wichita, two grandchildren Taylor Moorman and Michele Deewall, and four great grandchildren Kinley, Elyse and twins Collin and Ethan Deewall. She was preceded in death by her sister Helen Paul and her parents. Mass of Christian Burial for Johna will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2020 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Solomon with Father John Wolesky and Father Tom Hoisington as Concelebrants. He was born March 7, 1949, in Duncan, Oklahoma, the son of Raymond L. and Thelma Jean (Best) Sawyers. Ray graduated from Southwestern Heights High School in Kismet, KS, and earned his bachelor's degree from Kansas State University in 1979 in Agriculture. He served in the United States Navy for 6 years on nuclear submarines. He later worked as a Soil Conservationist with the Soil Conservation Services for the United States Department of Agriculture. He worked as the District Conservationist in Kearney, Clay and Riley Counties from 1980 until his retirement in 1994. Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards and games with friends and family. He was also an avid reader. He loved spending time with his family, he had a quick wit and uncanny recollection of all things history. He was a wealth of knowledge and a storyteller extraordinaire, everyone who knew him enjoyed listening to the many stories he shared. On November 24, 1967, in Dalhart, TX, he was married to Peggy Elliott. Ray is survived by his wife, of Manhattan. Additional survivors include his three children: Dr. Eric Sawyers and his wife Leslie of Casper, WY, Jason Sawyers and his wife Tara of Topeka, KS, and Dené Mosier and her husband Zachary of Manhattan; four granddaughters: Ashley and Ellie Sawyers, and Grace and Gabrielle Mosier; five grandpups; two Aunts, Rosa Tidwell and Inez Dodson, of Comanche, OK and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
