Patricia L. “Pat” Lamborn, age 83, of Abilene, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2020 in Abilene. She was born January 25, 1937 in Leedey, Oklahoma the daughter of Melvin R. and Mary Rose (Lingenfelter) Allen. Following her high school graduation in Duke, Oklahoma, Pat attended a business college receiving her bookkeeping degree. On May 6, 1958 she was united in marriage to Arnold Lamborn in Altus, Oklahoma. Pat worked in the corporate offices as a bookkeeper at Alco-Duckwall for 37 years before retiring. She is survived by her daughters Melody Elsasser and her husband Dan of Abilene, Cindi Casanova and her husband Edwin of Solomon, Dr. Shawnie Lamborn of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister Janet Clark of Kingston, Oklahoma, brother Bill Allen of Claremore, Oklahoma; six grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Arnold and her sister Mary Dale Wherritt. The family has selected cremation there will be no visitation. Edward A. Rickel, age 80, of Manhattan, died June 3, 2020, at his residence. He was born October 4, 1939, in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of Edward A. Rickel, Sr., and Justina Bell (McHugh) Rickel. Ed married his true love, Molly A. (Bargas) Rickel three times. Molly preceded him in death on September 28, 1994. He later married Teresa “Tess” Carbajal on June 8, 2002. Tess survives of Manhattan. Ed and Molly owned and operated the Rickel Liquor Store in Manhattan on Bluemont Avenue. Ed was a man with a work ethic like no other. He ran a successful liquor store for 47 years. The hardest part of his failing health was not being able to go to the store every day. He loved to have a big growl but everyone knew he had an even bigger heart. His Love for family, business, cars, and casinos made him the person he was. He was a member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Additional survivors include his four children: Alan Rickel, Monica Rickel, Teresa McMillin (Mark) and Melissa Rickel-Morrill (Scott) all of Manhattan; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one sister: Barbara Ensley of Manhattan; and one brother Mike Gear of Topeka, Kansas. Connie Lee Stoddard, 76, of Junction City, died Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Geary Community Hospital. Connie was born January 31, 1944 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd C. and Pearl Mae (Riedy) Aubrecht. She attended schools in Iowa City and graduated from Iowa City High School in 1968. She later attended Kansas State University. Connie was a homemaker, but worked for many years for USD #475 as a School Secretary and Teachers Aide in several elementary schools, but primarily Ware Elementary on Ft. Riley. Connie attended First United Methodist Church in Junction City. Connie married Robert J. Stoddard on January 10, 1970 in Iowa City. Robert survives of the home. Other survivors include: a son, Ronald E. Stoddard, Junction City; 2 daughters, Dianne Kay Clark, Queen City, Missouri, and Stacey Lynn Stoddard, Overland Park; a brother, Robert Aubrecht; 5 grandchildren, Emilie, Kelsey, Christian, Joseph, and Jessica; and 2 great grandchildren, Ethan and Brayden. Marvin Joseph Dreiling, 85, passed away at his home in Chapman, Kansas on June 2, 2020.

Marvin was born on December 19, 1934 at the family farm near Ellis, Kansas to Raymond and Marcella (Walters) Dreiling.  

He attended school in rural Ellis, KS before his family moved to Chapman in 1943. He attended Chapman Elementary Grade School and graduated from Dickinson County Community High School with the class of 1953.

After graduation he joined the US Army and served for 3 years. During his service he was  stationed in Korea for 16 months. Upon returning to the states, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Hettenbach, on January 16, 1956. They were then transferred to Fort Hood, TX for one year. After his honorable discharge from the service  they moved to Denver, CO where he worked as a diesel mechanic for Well Completions for 7 years.  In 1963 he and his family, moved back to Chapman and eventually went to work for Chapman USD 473 and was in charge of school transportation for 28 years.  Marvin was a member of St Michaels Catholic Church, American Legion and Abilene Elks.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and boating. Milford Lake was a favorite place to take his family where he, Shirley, his kids and grandkids all enjoyed skiing, tubing, fishing and campfires. He was a great dad, grandpa and great –grandpa and was known for his willingness to help anyone of them at any time with anything they needed.

Marvin is survived by his wife Shirley of 64 years. Two daughters, Debbie Budden and Trudy Sims (Ken, of Chapman; son Ron Dreiling (Kit, Santa Clarita, CA; one sister, Charlene Herman (George, Abilene and brother-in laws, Jerry Schad, Junction City and John Leach Overland Park;  eight  grandsons, one granddaughter, ten great grandchildren and four step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Norman Dreiling and sister-in-law Shirley Dreiling; sisters,  Patsy Schad, Lorraine Leach, Mary Jean Hooper and brother-in-law Darrow Hooper.

The family has chosen cremation.  A visitation is planned for Friday, June 12 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at St Michael Parish Center. The funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Chapman on Saturday, June 13 at 10:30 a.m. with Father John Wolesky officiating.  We will be taking precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 with a sign-in sheet during visitation, social distancing and recommending, but not requiring the use of masks.  Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Chapman, KS.

Carol Dean Austin

James Michael Brierton (Mike, 69, Abilene, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on June 2, 2020 in his home. He was born on July 15, 1950 in Keokuk, Iowa to James and Dorothy Brierton. He attended Ferris Illinois Elementary School and graduated from Carthage High School in 1968. Brierton gained his Associate’s Degree in Engineering from Spoon River College in 1970. On March 18, 1972, he married Theresa (Schutte) Brierton in Carthage, Illinois.

Mike was an engineer in Peoria, Goodland and Galva, Illinois until relocating his family to Abilene, Kansas in 1982 to pursue work. He took a position at Abilene Equipment, He then founded Brierton Engineering Incorporated in 1987 where he worked until his death. He loved to work and took great pride in providing for his employees and family. Mike was a generous employer and will be greatly missed by employees that he considered family.

Mike was very involved in the community. He was a member of Abilene First Christian Church, the Elks Club and the ‘Old Farts Club’ in which he enjoyed breakfast, coffee and jokes with his friends. He was a humble and generous man, who had a knack for making you smile in many ways. He was passionate about funding organizations such as Great Plains Theater, Salina Rescue Mission and Salvation Army and countless others, never wanting recognition in return. Mike was always willing to help someone in need whether that be lending a listening ear, giving advice or providing financial assistance. He was an avid reader of novels as well as any informative political, scientific, health, automotive or intellectual articles which gave him great wisdom. Besides working, Mike loved to mow, drive his tractor, attend various family sporting events and spend time visiting with his grandchildren. Anyone that knew Mike, knew he adored and loved his grandchildren and took great pride in sharing their accomplishments with others. But above all, he loved his Lord and Savior and strived to follow Him.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy Brierton, sister, Joyce Whitcomb, and brother, Gary Brierton. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Theresa of the home, sister, Patty Thomas (John) of New Whiteland, Indiana, brothers, Dennis Brierton (Pat) of Queen Creek, Arizona, Roger Brierton (Kathy) of Carthage, Illinois, daughters, Sarah Jordan (Malik) of Salina, Kansas, Julie Doughtery (Bill) of Shawnee, Kansas, Catherine Brierton of Lawrence, Kansas, son, Tim Brierton (Heather) of Gulfport, Mississippi and eight grandchildren, Rhianna Jordan (Cade Cranston) of Parker, Colorado, Caleb, Joshua, Layla and Amarah Jordan of Salina, Kansas, Blayne, Blaize and Brooklyn Brierton of Gulfport, Mississippi. He will be deeply missed by his cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and community.

James Michael Brierton

James “Jim” W. Davis, 72, owner of Jim Davis A/C of Marion, passed away Monday, June 1, 2020.

Jim was born September 14, 1947, to William Edsel Davis and Mary Elizabeth Davis (Transue) in Smith Center, Kansas.&nbsp; Jim graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in 1965 and completed Technical School with two certifications in Engineering and HVAC.&nbsp; He was a Sergeant in the US Army during the Vietnam War as a Radio Teletype.&nbsp; On May 17, 1969, Jim married Jannette Penner in Olathe, Kansas.&nbsp; After some time, Jim settled his family in Marion, Kansas and proceeded to build his family.&nbsp;

Jim was a life member of the local VFW and served as the Commander in Chief the last few years.&nbsp; He also served 42 years with Marion Fire Department, where he ended his career there as the Assistant Fire Chief.&nbsp; Jim had a private pilot license and loved to fly in his Cherokee plane and his ultra-light around Marion County, and many times beyond.

James “Jim” W. Davis, 72, owner of Jim Davis A/C of Marion, passed away Monday, June 1, 2020.Jim was born September 14, 1947, to William Edsel Davis and Mary Elizabeth Davis (Transue) in Smith Center, Kansas.&nbsp; Jim graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in 1965 and completed Technical School with two certifications in Engineering and HVAC.&nbsp; He was a Sergeant in the US Army during the Vietnam War as a Radio Teletype.&nbsp; On May 17, 1969, Jim married Jannette Penner in Olathe, Kansas.&nbsp; After some time, Jim settled his family in Marion, Kansas and proceeded to build his family.&nbsp;Jim was a life member of the local VFW and served as the Commander in Chief the last few years.&nbsp; He also served 42 years with Marion Fire Department, where he ended his career there as the Assistant Fire Chief.&nbsp; Jim had a private pilot license and loved to fly in his Cherokee plane and his ultra-light around Marion County, and many times beyond.His father, William E. Wherever they lived Dick was involved with the church as an organist or choir director, church boards and a Bible study teacher. He was also involved in Civitan, Lions and several civic organizations.

His loving family includes his wife of almost 62 years, Betty of the home; son, Terry Schnitker of Augusta, Kansas, granddaughters, Makenzi and Mariah Schnitker of Augusta; a brother and his wife, Rollen and Gerri Schnitker, and a sister-in-law, Margaret “Ann” Schnitker all of Hoyleton, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael (May 5, 2020) and his brother, Donald Schnitker. Dick passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2020 at the age of 83 years old. He is now breathing easily as he is playing and singing joyfully to his Lord and Savior.

Richard "Dick" Henry Schnitker - January 27, 1937-June 1, 2020 (age 83)

Norman Ray Childs of Junction City, Kansas, passed away at a hospital in Kansas City, Kansas on May 29, 2020. He was 79 years old, but had been suffering from congestive heart and lung failure for about three months. Despite the restrictions imposed by the COVID 19 pandemic, at the end, his wife and sons were able to be near him.

Norm was born on August 25, 1940, in the small town of Price, Utah. His parents, Luther Dee and Venola (Hansen) Childs also had a daughter, Marie, who was two.

When Norm was two years old his young father died unexpectedly, and Norm was raised by Horace Bone, who became his stepfather when his mother remarried. Norm grew up and attended schools in Lehi, Utah, graduating from Lehi High School in 1958. Norm’s great love during these years was sports, and he played both football and baseball on the high school and community teams. His second love was the army, and he joined the Utah National Guard when he was 17 and a senior in high school.

After his six-month Army basic training, Norm returned to Utah where he pursued an athletic scholarship and played varsity football at the College of Southern Utah (now Southern Utah University) in Cedar City. It was here that he met Gaylynn Sherratt, a theater major, who would later become his wife. Cast opposite each other in “Taming of the Shrew,” they helped launch the now-famous Utah Shakespeare Festival in the summer of 1962. In the process they fell in love and were married on November 10, 1962, in Cedar City.

Another football scholarship to the University of Utah moved the newlyweds, to Salt Lake City. After a semester as struggling students, as Norm liked to tell it: “Gay got pregnant, I got scared, and so we joined the Army.”

What followed was a 20-year career in the United States Army that saw three separate tours in Viet Nam, where as a Green Beret and later a company commander in the First Cavalry Division he earned a Silver Star and two Bronze Stars for gallantry, a Purple Heart, and other decorations. Between these tours he attended OCS at Fort Benning, and was commissioned In June of 1966.&nbsp; After Viet Nam, an assignment as the military advisor to the 19th Special Forces Group took him to Missoula, Montana. While there, he was able to complete his oft-interrupted college education and he received a BA in History from the University of Montana in 1974. An assignment to the 1st ID brought the family to Kansas later that year. This was followed by a four-year stint with the 8th Infantry Division in Germany. The family returned to Fort Riley in 1981 to conclude Norm’s active duty. He retired in November of 1982. During these years in the Army, Norm and Gaylynn’s family expanded to include two sons: Eric born in 1962; Dane, born while he was in Viet Nam in 1967; and a baby daughter, Andrea, who died five days after birth in 1976.

After his military retirement, Norm spent 8 years as the director of the Geary County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau in Junction City. He moved to a similar position in Pueblo, Colorado, for two years, and then returned to Junction City where he worked for a time in sales for KQLA and KJCK radio. In 1996 he became the director of the Junction City branch of Cloud County Community College, and was at the helm during the construction of CCCC’s Junction City Campus. He retired at the end of 2000.

In recent years, to keep himself young and in touch, he enjoyed substitute-teaching at the high school and middle schools for USD #475.

Norm was a great supporter and advocate for his community. He was friendly and generous and loved to serve others. He worked on the Sundown Salute Committee for years, starting the parade that became be a highlight of that celebration. He was a member of the Geary County Historical Society and as the chair of the “Finance Committee” spearheaded the raising of fund to complete the museum. He was much involved in the effort to save the First Territorial Capitol site at Fort Riley, and served for 6 years as president of the “Partners of the FTC” friends group. He supported the fund-raising for and erection of the Buffalo Soldier Monument. He was a friend of the Opera House and helped to see it restored. As a generous supporter of the Community Band and the Junction City Little Theater, he always enjoyed their concerts and productions, maintaining they enriched life here for everyone. And he was especially proud when he got to see his children, grandchildren, and recently, great grandchildren perform in these shows.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from his youth, Norm held numerous positions and served in various capacities from Scoutmaster to Branch President over the years. A special achievement for him came in 2014-2015, when he and Gaylynn, were able to serve a Church mission in Western New York, where they worked with visitors and VIP’s who came to the LDS historic sites in that area. Most recently, the couple have been able to serve as “Ordinance Workers” in the Kansas City Temple for the past four years.

Norm Childs made friends wherever he went. He loved people and he enjoyed getting to know everyone he came in contact with. His “gift of gab” sometimes got him in trouble, but his warm and fun personality drew people to him and he was happiest when he had company.

Norm is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gaylynn, of the home; sons: Eric and wife, Melissa, of Junction City and Dane and wife, Janette, of Basehor, Kansas; his sister, Marie Wagstaff, of Lehi, Utah; a half-brother, Duane Jones, of Elmo, Utah; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

A funeral will be held for Norm Childs at 10 a.m. on June 11, 2020, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on McFarland Road in Junction City, where there is plenty of room for “social distancing.” A viewing at the church prior to the service will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will occur at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery following the service.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Margarita C. "Margie" Gentry, 71, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020, in Abilene.

She was born January 1, 1949 in Carlsbad, New Mexico, the daughter of Manuel and Manuela (Vigil) Calderon. Growing up in Garden Grove, California, Margie attended local schools, graduated from Garden Grove High School and earned her Associates Degree from Brown Mackie of Salina. 1965, she married Larry Lee Gentry, later divorcing. Margie had been employed by Alco Duckwall offices, retiring after thirty years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, making pottery and planting morning glories.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a brother. She is survived by: two sons, Larry Gentry of Abilene, Jim Gentry of Manhattan; one sister, Naomi Calderon; three brothers, Miguel, Daniel and Samuel Calderon; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 4th at the Abilene Cemetery with Pastor Jack Gilstrap officiating. Peggy Darlene (Horton) Colby, 89, passed away Friday, May 29 in St. Augustine, Florida where they were living.&nbsp; Peggy was born September 29, 1930 in the Elm Creek Township, Morris County, Kansas.&nbsp;

Peggy lived in Wilsey until she moved to Council Grove for her senior year in High School where she graduated in 1948.&nbsp; It was at Council Grove High School where she met the love of her life, Gene Colby.&nbsp; They were married in New London, CT, December 18, 1948 where Gene was stationed while serving in the Navy.

Peggy is survived by her husband of 71 years, Gene Colby, their daughters Lynda Whitlock and husband Stuart, St. Augustine, FL, and Diane Wolfe, Council Grove, KS.&nbsp; They had four grandchildren Kevin Zimmerman; Darren Zimmerman and his fiancée Brianna; Angela and her husband Dave Hulays; Brian Whitlock and his wife Jennifer.&nbsp; Five great grand-children, Owen and Max Hulays; Colby, Charlotte and Emma Whitlock.&nbsp; She is also survived by her brother Guy Horton and his wife Donna, sister-in-law Bert Horton and many loved nieces and nephews and friends. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents Lue and Bonnie Horton, brothers, Leo, Dean, Don, Leland Horton and sister, Wilma Bennett.&nbsp;

Peggy loved being a stay-at-home wife and mother. She helped out at Colby’s Café, the restaurant they first owned when they moved back to Council Grove in 1956 then helped out at Colby’s Toggery whenever she could. Peggy was an active member at the First Congregational Church and was well known for her ability to cut and perm hair for all of her friends and family.&nbsp; They enjoyed living at the Council Grove Lake for many years in the 70’s and 80’s, boating and entertaining their friends.&nbsp; In the 1990’s they moved to the warmer climate of Texas.&nbsp; Peggy enjoyed living on the golf course and learning to play golf.&nbsp; She loved her friends and enjoyed socializing with them.&nbsp; She was an avid bridge player and participated in many activities in the golf club community where they resided.&nbsp; Peggy loved life, enjoyed people and made friends easily.

Peggy Darlene (Horton) Colby

Samuel H. Euler, 91, of Dwight, Kansas passed away on May 30, 2020 at Diversicare Nursing Facility in Council Grove, Kansas.

 Sam was born in Dwight, Kansas on April 6, 1929. He attended grade school at Hurino School in the rural Dwight area and graduated from Dwight Rural High School in 1947. He also attended Kansas State University. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956 and then returned home to Dwight to farm. He married Alice M. Pierson on August 20, 1957. Alice passed away on June 30, 1999. On August 31, 2002, he married Lola Blim. Lola passed away on January 21, 2011. Sam loved the life of a farmer.

 He was happiest when he was out on a tractor working the land. Sam had a Grade A Dairy until 1969 and then took great pride in his Angus cowherd. He was a member of the Dwight Masonic Lodge and a life-long member of the Dwight United Methodist Church. Sam was an active member in the United Methodist Men. He sang tenor in the choir for many years. He also served in every leadership position in the church on the boards and committees of the church. Sam and Alice trained and served as lay speakers at Unite Methodist churches throughout eastern Kansas. Sam also served for many years on the Morris County Soil Conservation Board receiving numerous awards and recognition for his service.

 Sam is survived by his two children: Stephen L. Euler (Diane) of Dwight, Kansas and Sharon K. Euler (Doug Armstrong, of Gladstone, Missouri, 2 grandchildren, Kaleena Delk of Skiatook, Oklahoma and Lexia Anthony (Jessen) of Lacey, Washington, and 4 great-grandchildren, Destiny and Joey Delk , Troy and Gabrielle Anthony and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice, his wife Lola, his parents, Lewis E. and Hazel M. Euler, his sisters, Imogene Ruth Kennon and Doris Inlow and his brother, Clyde E. Euler.

Samuel H. Euler, 91, of Dwight, Kansas passed away on May 30, 2020 at Diversicare Nursing Facility in Council Grove, Kansas. Sam was born in Dwight, Kansas on April 6, 1929. He attended grade school at Hurino School in the rural Dwight area and graduated from Dwight Rural High School in 1947. He also attended Kansas State University. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956 and then returned home to Dwight to farm. He married Alice M. Pierson on August 20, 1957. Alice passed away on June 30, 1999. On August 31, 2002, he married Lola Blim. Lola passed away on January 21, 2011. Sam loved the life of a farmer. He was happiest when he was out on a tractor working the land. Ronnie’s life began on February 14, 1939 at home in Herington. He was the son of Daniel and Leah (Berg) Barrett.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lyons Creek.  He was a 1958 graduate of Herington High School and attended Washburn University.  Ronnie served his country in the United States Army Reserves for over 20 years.  He had worked for Anderson/Oxandale quarry before becoming a police officer in the City of Herington, an agent for the Kansas Department of Revenue Alcoholic Beverage Control and in “retirement” a security officer for Aldersgate Security.

  Ronnie was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed fixing lawn mowers.  He was an avid auction sale attendee and would often buy something because it was a good price then give it away.  His dream was to outbid everyone at an auction someday.  He had to read the morning newspaper daily and was devoted to his wife Patricia and family.  Ronnie and Patricia enjoyed 60 years of marriage. They were wed on September 6, 1959 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lyons Creek.

  His loving family includes his wife Patricia Barrett of Auburn; children April (Mark) Millikan of Topeka, Matthew (Brandi) Barrett of Fairfield, CA, Faith ( Michael ) Martin of Topeka, Amber (Burt) Wickersham of Lawrence, Aaron (Leonita) Barrett of Vallejo, CA and Rachel (Buzz Kitzhaber) Gray of Topeka; grandchildren Terah (Christopher) Baldridge, Kayleigh (Kyle) Biggs, Hayden (Adriana) Barrett, James (Olivia) Edwards, Brandy (Nick) Jensen, Shaun Martin, Andrew (Dani) Edwards, Kaity (Keegan) Cole, Alexander Wickersham, Josh Gray, Jordan Gray, and Jaden Gray; great grandchildren Kaelyn, Jayce, Libby, Laine, Isabella, James, Aiden, Ian and Cheyenne; and his brother James Barrett of Mexico.  

Ronnie went home to meet his Savior on May 27, 2020 from the University of Kansas- St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.  He is preceded in death by his parents, son Daniel David Barrett, and brothers Walter, Lloyd, LaVern and Bobby Barrett.

  His family will gather with friends on Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Herington where his funeral service will be held at 2 p.m.  Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Herington is serving the family. Ronald Lee Barrett - February 14, 1939-May 27, 2020 (age 81)

Dennis Lee Baer passed away at his residence in Junction City, KS on May 29th, 2020 at the age of 70.

Dennis was born in Junction City, Kansas on December 13, 1949 to Marvin and Helen (Heller) Baer.  He attended Chapman High School and graduated in 1968. He then attended Salina VoTech for one year. He was a member of the National Guard for six years. 

He had a long, successful career as an appliance technician. He worked at Sears for 25 years.  He later owned his own appliance and repair business and worked for Waters True Value until his retirement.  He also moonlighted as an appliance technician for many years.  He greatly enjoyed being able to assist customers with their own home repairs while working at Waters. 

On June 4th, 1992 he married Ileen Rider in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  During their marriage Dennis and Ileen owned a 67 Nova and 67/68/70 Chevelles.  They enjoyed attending various car shows and he received numerous awards for his participation at these shows.   He had a passion for vintage cars and is fondly remembered by his son Shawn for his love of a 64 Nova.  He also greatly enjoyed traveling with his wife, hunting and westerns.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Baer and Helen (Heller) Baer; and his sister,  Connie Baer.

He is survived by:  his wife,  Ileen Baer of the home;  sons, Shawn (Allie) Baer, Chapman, Kansas  and Justin Baer of Junction City, Kansas;  daughter,  Julie Ayers, Wamego, KS. Eight grandchildren, Kody, Brittany, Rachel, Brynna, Avery, Josie, Jerrigen and Ensley. 

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A graveside service will be held at the Indian Hills Cemetery in Chapman, Kansas at 10:00 a.m. June 5, 2020.   Mark Hatcher, of the Junction City Church of the Nazarene will officiate.

Marjorie Grace Palmer, age 81, passed away Monday, May 25, 2020 at the Leonardville Nursing Home.

She was born on December 25, 1938 in Mattoon, Illinois, the daughter of Ward Wilson and Helen May (Shriver) Seaman.

Marjorie was an office manager for Mutual of Omaha for 42 years.  She was a member of the Valley Park United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and then the Sedalia Community Church.  She enjoyed bowling in the Golden Oldies Bowling League and the fellowship of the Senior Citizens lunches every Wednesday in Riley. She always enjoyed singing and was an active participant in the sing-a-long group at Leonardville Nursing Home for many years.  She loved her job as Grandma for her three grandchildren who she taught to bowl, sew, and cook.

She is survived by a daughter, Dawn Messerla and husband David of Manhattan; two brothers, David Seaman of Gravois Mills, Missouri and Dennis Seaman of O’Fallon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Matthew Messerla and wife Jara of Ottawa, Aaron Messerla of Chicago, Illinois and Katie Messerla of Manhattan and one great-grandson, Mason Lucas Messerla of Ottawa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Seaman.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. June 6, 2020 at the Sedalia Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. June 5, 2020 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Yong Hui Martin, age 70, died on Wednesday May 27, 2020 at her residence in Manhattan, Kansas.

She was born in Seoul, South Korea on August 15, 1949 the daughter of Hyun-Chil Kim and Bong Lae Kang. Yong was a loving homemaker for her family.

Yong was united in marriage on August 29, 1977 to Ernie Martin in Seoul, South Korea. This union was blessed with 3 sons: Matt, John and Daniel.

She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, watching the Korean Channel &amp; keeping everyone well fed. Above all, she loved being with her family, especially spoiling the grandchildren.

Yong was preceded in death by her parents; a sister: Kyung-Hee Kim and a brother: Joon-Soo Kim.

Survivors include her husband: Ernie of the home; sons: Matt Martin and his wife Heather of Manhattan, John Martin and his wife Megan of Manhattan and Daniel Martin and Erin Crofford of Thompson, Manitoba, Canada. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Adrian Martin, Kierra Martin, Skyler Martin, Ellis Martin, Hazel (Crofford) Martin and Owen Crofford; 2 brothers: Cheol-Soo Kim and Moon-Soo Kim and her beloved dog: Max.

She married Maurice David Graham August 20, 1949, Bonner Springs, KS he preceded her in death February 29, 2000.

Frances is survived by her four children, Ruth E. Graham, Topeka, KS, Mark (Vallery) Graham, Lloyd (Barb) Graham, Lois Graham all of Junction City, KS; five grandchildren, Brett, Heath, Justin, Austin and Caitlin; seven great-grandchildren, Grayson, Remington, Carter, Miles, Vivian, Brynn and Cameron.

Patricia (Pat) M. Wild, 93, Junction City died Sunday, May 24, 2020 at Via Christi Village, Manhattan.

Pat was born August 31, 1926 in Wandsworth England to Henry and Bessie Connor. She loved to tell stories of swimming in the Thames and playing tennis at Hampton Court while growing up.

She met her husband John during World War II while he served with the United States Army Air Forces. Pat and John were united in marriage on May 5, 1945 in East Moseley, England.

Pat arrived in Kansas in early 1946 to join John on their farm in Lincoln County, becoming one of the first war brides in Kansas. The community excitedly held a reception to welcome “Johnny’s” new bride and hear her British accent. The couple later relocated to Junction City.

While raising seven children, Pat spent time outside the home working as a Physical Education assistant at Junction City Junior High school, Administrator for Evans Railcar, Daily Union newspaper and KJCK radio. She also worked with the Junction City Mental Health Association as well as Meals on Wheels. At one time she was the oldest volunteer lifeguard in Kansas.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John of 60 years, son Jeffrey, brother Peter Connor and sister Theresa Rogers.

Survivors include children Michael Wild, La Jolla, California, Patricia (Tony) Henningsen, Oberlin, Kansas, Mary (Mike) Pine, Mulvane, Kansas, David (Caroline) Wild, Milford, Kansas, Elizabeth Mathews, Uganda, Africa, and Dorothy (David) Bleakley, Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

She is also survived by grandchildren Kyleb Wild, Keejun Wild, Justin (Kendra) Brown, Theresa (Kevin) Burr, Anastasia (Scott) Hammers, John (Brooke) Pine, John Wild, Leigh (Geoff) Polacek, Eric (Kimberly) Mathews, Elise Mathews, Mathew Bleakley, Connor Bleakley, Nathan Bleakley as well as eight, soon to be nine, great grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at St. Xavier Church in Junction City. Johnson Funeral home is handling arrangements. To honor her request, a small vial of ashes will also be spread at sea in Worthing England where, as a girl, her family spent the summers.

Patricia (Pat) M. Wild, 93, Junction City died Sunday, May 24, 2020 at Via Christi Village, Manhattan.Pat was born August 31, 1926 in Wandsworth England to Henry and Bessie Connor. She loved to tell stories of swimming in the Thames and playing tennis at Hampton Court while growing up.She met her husband John during World War II while he served with the United States Army Air Forces. Pat and John were united in marriage on May 5, 1945 in East Moseley, England.Pat arrived in Kansas in early 1946 to join John on their farm in Lincoln County, becoming one of the first war brides in Kansas. The community excitedly held a reception to welcome “Johnny’s” new bride and hear her British accent. The couple later relocated to Junction City.While raising seven children, Pat spent time outside the home working as a Physical Education assistant at Junction City Junior High school, Administrator for Evans Railcar, Daily Union newspaper and KJCK radio. She also worked with the Junction City Mental Health Association as well as Meals on Wheels. At one time she was the oldest volunteer lifeguard in Kansas.Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John of 60 years, son Jeffrey, brother Peter Connor and sister Theresa Rogers.Survivors include children Michael Wild, La Jolla, California, Patricia (Tony) Henningsen, Oberlin, Kansas, Mary (Mike) Pine, Mulvane, Kansas, David (Caroline) Wild, Milford, Kansas, Elizabeth Mathews, Uganda, Africa, and Dorothy (David) Bleakley, Glenwood Springs, Colorado.She is also survived by grandchildren Kyleb Wild, Keejun Wild, Justin (Kendra) Brown, Theresa (Kevin) Burr, Anastasia (Scott) Hammers, John (Brooke) Pine, John Wild, Leigh (Geoff) Polacek, Eric (Kimberly) Mathews, Elise Mathews, Mathew Bleakley, Connor Bleakley, Nathan Bleakley as well as eight, soon to be nine, great grandchildren.A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at St. Xavier Church in Junction City. Mary Alice Berry-Oesterhaus, 90, Topeka, KS, formerly of Dwight, KS, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2020, at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, at the Dwight United Methodist Church. Burial will follow the funeral at Dwight Cemetery. Mrs. Oesterhaus will lie in state from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at the Johnson Funeral Home in Junction City. Mary was born December 4, 1929 in Geary County the fourth child of George H. and Mary Ellen (Hively) Berry.

Mary graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1947. On December 22, 1947, she married Clyde William Oesterhaus in Junction City. Clyde and Mary farmed near Dwight until 2004. Mary moved to Topeka in 2005. Mary was a life-long member of the Dwight United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church Women where she held many leadership positions. Mary loved reading, utilizing the mail-a book services at the farm and later the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library Red Carpet Services while living in Topeka. She also enjoyed gardening and canning.

Survivors include her four children, Clyde Oesterhaus, Jr. (Laura) of Dwight, KS, Connie Oesterhaus and Pamela Oesterhaus both of Topeka, KS and Reginald Oesterhaus (Sheli) of Clay Center, KS; two grandchildren and three-great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, parents and her siblings Ellen Moler, Clara Branstetter, Verda Champ, Lois Wilson and Cecil Berry.

Frankie Eugene Gray 80, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020 at home in Abilene surrounded by family.

 He was born January 7, 1940 near Miltonvale, the son of George W. and Georgia A. (Catlin) Gray. Growing up, Frankie attended local schools and graduated from Miltonvale Rural High School with the class of 1957. July 4, 1957 he married Sherryl Shroyer in Miltonvale. Most of their married life has been spent in Abilene.

 Frankie was employed by NRCS Department of Agriculture. Frankie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, traveling and country music. He was a member of the Abilene First United Methodist Church.

 Frankie was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Leland Gray. Frankie is survived by: wife, Sherryl Gray of Abilene; son, Gerald ( Jeanine) Gray of Iola; daughter, Sherri (Jim) Hohensee of Abilene; Four grandchildren, Kelby Garten, Cassie Gragg, Leland Gray, Layton Gray; and five great-grandchildren.

Galen D. Kubin, age 92, of Abilene, passed away Sunday May 24th, 2020 at his farm home north of Abilene. He was born October 11th, 1927 in McPherson, Kansas, the son Wilbur F. “Bill” and Anna C. (Gustafson) Kubin. He grew up on the family farm, and graduated from McPherson High School.

Galen served with the Army Corps of engineers for two years.

On January 20th of 1952 he married Doris A. Ledy. Most of their lives were spent north of Abilene on their dairy farm. He was an “independent, stubborn, bull-headed farmer” at heart, and he was proud of it. Despite being retired, he maintained an avid interest and “opinion” on the operation of his farm.

He was passionate about his Christian faith, and served the Lord as a Sunday school teacher, song leader, and board member for the Abilene Wesleyan Church. He also worked in the Kansas district leadership for the Wesleyan Men. He took a special interest in foreign missions, and organized trips and led teams of builders to the Wesleyan medical compounds in Haiti. This inspired his daughter, Susan, who has been serving since 2011 in medical ministry to a remote mountain area with EMEVI – Evangelical Living Water Ministry of Haiti. In recent years, Galen found spiritual fellowship at the Community Bible Church in Abilene. In retirement, he continued to mentor, and be an inspiration to those who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris, in 2015; his parents; and his sister, Billie Ann Morse. He is survived by daughters; Gayle Ann (Mike) Simpson of Topeka, Kansas; and Dr. Susan D. (David) Thompson of Abilene; 2 grandsons, Christopher (Lulu) Thompson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Jonathan Thompson of Des Moines, Iowa; 3 great-grandchildren, Rowen, Gillian, and Oliver, of Oklahoma City.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the family will have a private funeral with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. A recording of the service will be available within a few days, at the church Facebook site.

Regina “Martha” Bettencourt (Elder) 82, of Wamego, Kansas passed away Monday, May 25th at home peacefully surrounded by her husband, Lee, and children John, Laura, Sandra and Linda.&nbsp;

She was born on September 4, 1937 in Wheaton, Kansas to Damien L. and Corinne L. Elder (Miller).&nbsp; She grew up in Havensville, Kansas and graduated from Havensville High School in 1955.&nbsp; After graduation she moved to Topeka, Kansas and worked for the State and that is where she met the love of her life, George Lee Bettencourt who was from Oakland, CA and was stationed at Forbes Airforce Base.&nbsp; On December 21, 1958 they married and were blessed with 62 years.

She and Lee lived a short time in San Lorenzo, CA where their three oldest children were born, but in 1966 moved back to Havensville where they lived for 40 years.&nbsp; During this time Martha worked as a Nurses Aid and Emergency Medical Technician for the Onaga Community Hospital, Onaga, Kansas.&nbsp; After raising her 5 children she went to Kaw Valley Technical School and earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree in 1993 and practiced in Onaga for the next fifteen years.&nbsp;

She was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, Onaga, KS and after retiring and moving to Wamego in 2006 she was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.

Martha loved the Lord and demonstrated it with her servants’ heart. She was always ready to lend a hand or just come to your home if you needed someone to talk to.&nbsp; She served the community in various ways over the years:&nbsp; USD #322 School board member, Marriage Encounter instructor, 4-H leader, Softball coach, St. Vincent De Paul lay minister and catechism teacher and St. Bernard’s Women’s Guild.

Her other loves included baking, gardening, bowling, dancing with her husband, and most of all, being a wife/mother/grandmother. She had a way of making each of her grandchildren feel like they were the most special and most loved. Her love of sports was unmatched and magnified for any activity her children and grandchildren participated in.&nbsp; During March Madness you could always count on her being front and center of a TV.&nbsp; She had a sharp wit and great sense of humor and always made those around her feel special.&nbsp; She was one of a kind.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband Lee, children: John (Kathy) Bettencourt, Wamego, KS, Laura (Rusty) Chrest, Silt, CO, Sandra (Tyler) Roberts, Frisco, TX and Linda (Cole) McDiffett, Wamego, KS. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren:&nbsp; Derek (Janie) Berry, Shawna (Steven) Rohr, Blaine (Kendra) Bettencourt, Bailey (Jared) Edling, Kendall, Brynne &amp; Emerson Hammes; Reece, Gabriel, Grant &amp; Tate Warren; Morgan, Layton, Hadley &amp; Grace Bettencourt and five great-grandchildren:&nbsp; Owen, Katelyn, Paige, Adalynn &amp; Jaxston.&nbsp;

Preceding her in death were her parents; sister Carol Bahret; son, Dr. Mark Bettencourt and great-granddaughter Cadence Rohr.&nbsp;
