Robert R. Schalles, age 85, of Manhattan, died June 19, 2020, at Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice in Manhattan. He was born March 25, 1935, in Durango, Colorado, the son of Philip J. and Ada L. (Werner) Schalles, and had been a Manhattan resident since 1966. Robert proudly served in the United States Navy in Korea, Pacific Submarine Fleet in submarine repair from 1954 to 1958 and then in the reserves until 1962. Dr. Robert Schalles graduated from Ignacio High School in Ignacio, CO, earned his BS from Colorado State University and then his MS and PhD from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Dr. Schalles was a Professor of Genetics in Animal Science and Industry at Kansas State University. Dr. Schalles retired in 1998 after almost 32 years of service to the ASI Department. His expertise in population and quantitative genetics, in addition to beef cattle management, enabled him to contribute significantly to the animal breeding, genetics teaching, and research program at Kansas State University. He developed an innovative and practical research focus relevant to the needs of the beef cattle industry. Bob was an educator and mentor. He believed it was a privilege to help young people learn. He had received numerous public service awards. He served as president and chairman of the board of the American Simmental Association and the Kansas Simmental Association. He also had the privilege to travel and speak internationally. Robert was a loving and devoted family man and a loyal friend to many. He was a stockman, Master Gardener, pilot, woodworker and bird watcher. Bob was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge #16 AF &amp; AM and was a 32nd Degree Mason, ISIS Shrine Temple, Manhattan Shrine Club, Phi Kappa Phi and NDEA Graduate Fellowship. He was married to Betty E. Sewell on December 30, 1956, in Monte Vista, CO. Betty preceded him in death on August 8, 1998. On January 1, 2000, in Manhattan, he was married to Daisy M. Fielder. Christopher Michael Day, 38, of Leonardville, Kansas, died Friday, June 19, 2020 in a highway accident near Leonardville.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was a life-long resident of the area.

Chris was born on October 9, 1981, the son of Micheal and Dawn Brockopp Day.&nbsp; He attended Rock Creek School and graduated from Manhattan High School in 2000.&nbsp; Chris then attended Highland Community College and received an Associate’s Degree.

Chris has worked his adult life as a union laborer for Laborer’s Union 1290.&nbsp; He worked in a variety of construction jobs.

Chris was known for his willingness to help friends and neighbors in his community, especially the elderly.&nbsp; He mowed lawns, cleaned basements, or any other thing that they needed help with.&nbsp; He loved his old Mustang cars and running his dogs.

Chris is survived by his parents, Mike Day (Ladonna Piper), St. George and Dawn Julian (Scott), Westmoreland; his significant other, Julie Kenfield, of their home, and her daughter, Kacee Butterfield, Parker Colorado; his brother, Thomas Day, St. George; and his aunts, Donna Edwards, Junction City and Sue Brockopp, Duluth, Minnesota.

A memorial service will be held at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Wamego. &nbsp;The family will greet friends for a visitation at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego. Nathen Edward Fielder, 25, Junction City, Kansas, died Friday, June 19, 2020, at the Wamego Health Center. &nbsp;

Nathen was born September 24, 1994, in Denton, Texas, the son of Tim Fielder and Christy Jensen. &nbsp;He attended local schools and graduated from Fossil Ridge&nbsp;High School in Keller, TX.&nbsp;

Nathen joined the United States Army and service as a Mortarman. &nbsp;He was stationed at Fort Riley. &nbsp;Over the last few months, Nathen worked for Shilling Construction in Manhattan.

Nathen loved to work on cars and spending time with his friends talking about cars.

Nathen married Amanda Kay Graves on April 24, 2016, in Harvey County, Kansas. &nbsp;She survives.

Nathen is also survived by his children, Braxton and Braylen Graves, of the home, and Kaison Sigg, &nbsp;of Hays; his father and step-mother, Tim and Suzanne Fielder, Sedalia, Missouri; his mother, Christy Jensen, Breckenridge, Texas, his paternal grandmother, Phyllis Fielder, Gainesville, Texas; his siblings, Nicole Coppa (Kelly), Euless, Texas, Travis Fielder (Deanna), North Lake, Texas, Kristen Bingham (Robert), Lewisville, Texas and Raven Fielder, Breckenridge, Texas.

A private family burial will take place at Ashland Cemetery. A public visitation will be held 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at the Johnson Funeral Home 203 N. Washington Street Junction City, KS. Grady will lie in state from 10-10:30 Thursday before the funeral at Trinity Lutheran Church in Abilene. Grady was born on June 5th, 2010, in Manhattan, Kansas. The son of Luke Lewis Erichsen and Joanna Beth (Riffel) Erichsen. He was especially loved by his big sister Gracie. Grady attended Lincoln Elementary through 3rd grade. He was well known by his Lincoln Lion friends for being a buddy to everyone he met. Most will recall his wonderful, all-encompassing hugs that were freely and enthusiastically given. He had a smile that could brighten up any room and his laughter was contagious. Grady had a great fondness for cheeseburgers, chocolate frosted doughnuts with no sprinkles and chocolate ice cream. You could usually find Grady in the great outdoors. He loved playing outside, hunting, fishing and working with his 4-H projects. He was a member of the Clarks Creek 4-H club and truly enjoyed showing his hogs. He was very partial to Allis Chalmers tractors and took every opportunity to ride his Grandma and Grandpa’s and Great Grandpa Floyd’s. He proudly wore his #43 while playing football for the Junior Jays. His favorite baseball number was #16. When it came to sports he would always cheer for his Royals, Chiefs, K-State Wildcats, and Nebraska. Most importantly, Grady loved his family and friends. There was not a single soul who encountered Grady that did not walk away with a bit of Grady’s zest for life. We will miss him tremendously. He is survived by his father Luke, mother Joanna, sister Gracie, grandparents Wayne and Karen Erichsen and Rod and Darlene Riffel and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends who loved him dearly. Antoinette (Toni) Marie Novelly, aged 99, died peacefully on July 18, 2020 at her home at Oakley Place in Rossville.&nbsp; She was the first child born to Antone and Marie (Eckert, Wingate) Weixelman on February 5, 1921 at their farm north of Louisville, Kansas. She attended the Broderick grade school (formerly located at the intersection of Broderick and Marten roads) and graduated high school in 1938 at St. Joseph’s in Flush, Kansas and received her diploma in nursing from St. Mary College in Leavenworth, Kansas in 1940.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Her nursing led to her being commissioned as a Naval Officer during World War II and she was stationed at the US Naval Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma.&nbsp; Following the war, she continued her nursing career in Tulsa where she met Walter (Walt) Orlando Novelly.&nbsp; They married at St. Joseph Church, Flush, Kansas on January 28, 1950. Toni and Walt raised six children, starting in Tulsa and later moving to San Antonio in 1965 and then suburban Houston in 1974. Toni enjoyed sewing, baking and gardening.&nbsp; Walt pre-deceased Toni in 2014.&nbsp;

Toni is survived by son Gregory (Lisa) Novelly, of Colorado Springs; daughter Maria (Jonathon) Shapiro and grandchildren Matthew and Amy Shapiro, of Stockport, England; daughter Nancy (Gerald) Naumann, of Boerne TX, and granddaughter Christy (Guy) Earle and their two children, of Corinth TX; granddaughter Michelle (Kurt) Johnson, and their two sons, of San Antonio, and grandson Richard (Alexandra) Naumann and their three children, of Sandy Hook, CT; son Nicholas (Denise) Novelly, St. Marys, KS and granddaughter Anastasia Novelly of Dallas, TX, grandson Trent (Kimberly) Novelly and their two sons of Pittsburg, PA, grandsons Antone and Austin Novelly, and granddaughters Eileen and Lucia Novelly of St Marys KS; son Paul (Amy) Novelli and granddaughters Jacquelyn and Isabella Novelli of Granbury TX; youngest sister Bernadine Weixelman of Blytheville, Arkansas; youngest brother James Thomas (Jill) Weixelman, of Wamego, KS; and sister-in-law Diane Weixelman, of Ft. He was born on June 23, 1959 in Pohnpei, Federated State of Micronesia, the son of Mioko Nakanaga and William Soram. Kasma lived with his cousin Tony Lucios for over 20 years. He came to the United States in 2006 and lived with his cousin Tony’s daughter, Lisiana Lucios Micky. He worked at various jobs, including STIX and Harus located in the Kansas City area, and then in Manhattan, Kasma worked at Thai Noodle. He was very dedicated to his jobs, always was on time and always willing to work extra and he never called in sick. He was a very humble down to earth person. Kasma enjoyed his time relaxing and having a couple of drinks or a cold beer. People who met Kasma will never forget his passion for his work, his kindness and being a humble person. He was preceded in death by his parents and his seven siblings. Kasma will be missed by his nieces and nephews and all of his family, who were all so important to him. She was a graduate from Abilene High School in 1951. Peg married Donald Raymond McAdams, from Herrington, KS, on March 2, 1952 who preceded her in death. Peg married Stanley Edward Fegter, from Manhattan, KS, October 9, 1976. Peg worked as a receptionist and switchboard operator at McCall Pattern Company and held positions at Kansas State University and First Bank. She stopped working outside the home in 1986 to babysit her first grandchild and the six who followed. Peg, known as Nanny to her grandkids and their friends, took pride in babysitting all seven grandkids throughout various stages of their youth allowing dual-working parents the confidence that they were being raised with love. Peg and Stan enjoyed dances at the American Legion, traveling to visit relatives, snow skiing in Colorado, and playing cards with friends. Stan and Peg attended Westview Community Church. Peg also loved roller skating, shopping and auctions, being in the sun and any time with family. Peggy is survived by her husband, Stan Fegter, of Manhattan; children Mike (Lisa) McAdams of Manhattan, Sean (Lisa) McAdams of St. George and Marcie (Warren) Scipio of Manhattan; seven grandchildren, Whitney, Taylor, Jaron, Dakota, Tiesha, Warren and Mariah; 3 great-grandchildren, Bryce, Mason and Addison; and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen M. Kappel, 84, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2020, in Chapman. 

She was born September 9, 1935 in Abilene, the daughter of Earl and Mary (Foltz) Kogler. Growing up in Abilene Helen attended local schools. September 27, 1957 she married Norman Kappel in Abilene. All of their married life was spent in Abilene. He preceded her in death July 17, 2010. 

Helen was a self employed daycare provider for twenty eight years and a member of the Abilene First United Methodist Church.

 She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Linda Kappel; brother Bruce Kogler and infant sister, Marilyn Kogler.

Helen is survived by son George (Judy) Kappel of Abilene; two daughters, Lorrie (Ric) Riggs of Abilene; Julie Kappel of Topeka; brother, Earl Kogler Jr. of Altamone Springs, Florida; two step-sister, Jody (Bob) Reichel of Hansen, Idaho, Kay (Rickard) Waugh of King George, Virginia; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2020 at the Abilene Cemetery with Pastor John Collins officiating. Margaret L. Toburen, age 82, of Manhattan, KS died on June 12, 2020 at her residence. She was born September 11, 1937 in Wakefield, KS, the daughter of P. Stuart and Ruth (Kent) Walter. Margaret attended school in Wakefield and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1955. She married Myron Toburen in Wakefield, KS on March 18, 1956. After marriage they moved to Clay Center, KS where she resided until 2019. Myron proceeded her in death in December of 2005. Margaret enjoyed spending time with her family at the lake boating and camping. She loved to travel and has visited all fifty states. Most of all Margaret loved having her grandchildren around to cherish time with. Margaret was a member of the “Classy Lassies” red hat ladies. Margaret is survived by her children, Kelly (Roxie) Toburen of Manhattan, her daughters Jackie (Diane) Toburen of Manhattan, KS and Lynn (James) Feldhausen of Manhattan, KS. She is also survived by her siblings, Ronald (Jean) Walter of Topeka, KS, and Barbra (Gary) Carlson of Atchison, KS, as well as 9 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Rickie Dean Smith of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away June 15, 2020, after a long battle with cancer.

 He was born in Topeka, Kansas, on August 2, 1955, to Dean and Donna (Gifford) Smith. He graduated from Council Grove High School in 1973. Rick worked at many different jobs throughout the years, with his last job at IBP/Tyson in Emporia, Kansas.&nbsp; For anyone that knew Rick, they would know his one great passion in life was fishing. For a period of time, he ran a small guide business taking people fishing in the local area and was also interviewed by Betty Lou Pardue from WIBW TV, which he was very proud of.&nbsp; Rick knew the local area lakes and could tell you stats and what type of fish was prominently caught at each lake. He could talk your ear off about lures, bait, boats and what fish were biting when and where.

&nbsp;Rick also had a love and passion for animals.&nbsp; &nbsp;He always had a cat in his hand and the dogs knew the sound of his truck before he pulled in the drive. Spring was one of his favorite times; as there was always some kind of baby animal around.&nbsp; From kittens to foals, calves and the baby goats that somehow showed up over the last few years. If it was an animal, he loved it. If someone needed a "babysitter" for their 4 legged kid, Rick was the one to call. He took great pride in that job.

Rick was also a very proud uncle.&nbsp; He loved his nieces and nephews with all his heart. He enjoyed buying each of them a special “prize” whether it was a box of animal crackers or something he knew they would enjoy.&nbsp; The grin on Rick’s face and the excitement in his eyes was a true testimony on how much he loved them.&nbsp; He always enjoyed seeing them happy.&nbsp;

Rick is survived his parents, Dean and Donna Smith of Council Grove; sister Cathy (Smith) Pritchard and husband John of Dunlap; sister Tricia Smith-Hickey and husband Mark and son Logan of Council Grove; niece’s; Rinda (Pritchard) Stecher and husband Tony and children Jackson and Scarlett of Council Grove; Jenna (Pritchard) Vathauer and husband Daniel and children Jacob, Jaci Kay and Arlo of Barnes, Kansas; and Jessie Pritchard and children Ryker and Charlee Rose of Thompson Station, Tenn.

He was born October 1, 1935 to John H.&nbsp;&nbsp;and Amanda (Weida) Wester&nbsp;&nbsp;in LeMay Missouri.&nbsp;&nbsp;After graduating from high school, John enlisted in the United States Army in 1955 and retired 22 years later as a CW3.&nbsp;&nbsp;He married Carolyn Ann Seninger&nbsp;&nbsp;in St. Louis Missouri.&nbsp;&nbsp;His wife continues to live in Junction City, KS.

There will be a military graveside service at the Veterans Cemetery, Manhattan, KS on June 24 at 2 p.m.

John H. Wester, Jr.

Robert “Rebob” Wayne Bartholic, age 58 of Ogden, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2020 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, due to injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.

He was born on October 2, 1961 in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Robert Preston and Mary Frances (Trimble) Bartholic.  He served in the U.S. Army, Army National Guard and the Air National Guard.

On October 22, 1988, he was married to Tina Michele Linderman.  She survives of the home.

Robert retired as Captain from the Fort Riley Fire Department after 30 years.  Following his retirement, he worked many odds and ends jobs, most recently working for U.S.D. 383, where he was known as "Uncle Bob".  He was the Fire Chief for many years of the Ogden Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the V.F.W. in Ogden and Junction City and the N.R.A.  He enjoyed ghost hunting, storm spotting, genealogy and his H.A.M. radio.  He was also proud to be an organ donor. Rebob was the Vice President of the AGMC Chapter KS34A. He was known and loved by members from multiple states. The AGMC was a huge part of his life and even joked that AG was first and his kids were second.  

He is survived by his wife, Tina Bartholic; five children, Brian Linderman and Jeannie of Topeka, Melissia Johns and Derek of Marshallville, Ohio, Amber Bartholic and Chris of Marshallville, Ohio, Trina Martin and Chad of Wooster, Ohio and Kelly McGuyer and Roger of Manhattan; one sister, Stacy Sharp and J.C. of Fredericktown, Ohio; eleven grandchildren, Kenzie, Ethan, Myles, Madyson, Zayden, Christopher, Cierra, Faith, Ryan, Keely and Kora, numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dogs, Sheba and Bandit.

Graveside inurnment services with Military Honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2020 at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating. A gathering will be held at the Ogden Community Center after the service.

Father Carl was born July 5, 1927, in rural Flush, Kansas, the son of Henry A. and Johanna Nuttman Dekat. &nbsp;He attended St. Joseph’s grade school and high school. &nbsp;He then graduated from Conception Seminary College and Kenrick Seminary. &nbsp;Carl was ordained as a priest February 28, 1953 for the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas.

Father Carl served as Assistant Pastor for four years at St. Mary’s in Kansas City, Kansas, then the pastor for several Kansas Catholic parishes over the course of his career; St. Joseph’s in Lillis, St. Patrick’s in Coal Creek, St. Joseph’s in Wathena, St. Teresa’s in Perry, St. Aloysius in Meriden, St. Patrick’s in Corning, Sacred Heart in Baileyville, St. Dominic’s in Holton, St. Francis Xavier, Mayetta, Sacred Heart in Topeka, Immaculate Conception in St. Marys, St. Stanislaus in Rossville, Holy Cross in Emmett, and &nbsp;St. Joseph’s in Topeka. &nbsp;In 2006, Father Carl retired and moved back to Flush.

Even during retirement, Father Carl continued to work part time at St. Joseph’s in Flush, St. Bernard’s in Wamego, Holy Family in Alma, and Sacred Heart in Paxico.&nbsp;

Father was a life member of Knights of Columbus. &nbsp;He joined the Flush Council in 1945. &nbsp;Father also enjoyed doing woodworking.

Father Carl is survived by his sister, Dorene Taylor, Westmoreland and numerous nieces and nephews. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings; Isabel Gareis, Loretta Straub, Bernard Dekat, Arthur Dekat, Cleo Dekat, Donald Dekat, and Gilbert Dekat.

Sharon Lee Holley, 63, of Wamego, Kansas, died Friday, June 12, 2020 at her home following a fight with Lung Cancer. &nbsp;She was a long-time resident of the community.

Sharon was born on April 10, 1957, in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Gerald L. and Mary Saville Holley. &nbsp;She attended local schools and graduated from Wamego High School. &nbsp;She then received an Associate’s Degree to be a Dental Hygienist.

Sharon worked for a time as a hygienist and then worked in several different occupations including working at Manco in Manhattan. &nbsp; But the job she loved the best was the years she was the janitorial supervisor for the football stadium at Kansas State University. &nbsp;

Sharon loved to be outdoors whether it was working in her garden and yard or riding her Harley motorcycle. &nbsp;She was an artist and often did sketches and wood carvings. &nbsp;She especially enjoyed carving eagles. &nbsp;Sharon loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to the east coast and time spent in Hawaii. &nbsp;Sharon was very close to her dogs.

Sharon married Kenny Jones on July 28, 1980 in Wamego. &nbsp;He preceded her in death. &nbsp;She then had a long-term relationship with David Larson, but never remarried.

Sharon is survived by her children; Jacob Jones (Deanne, New South Wales, Australia, Desiree Jones, Belvidere, Tennessee, and Davida Holley, Topeka; her grandchildren, Mariah, Aviendha and Inara; her sister, Christine Parkhust, Wamego; her aunt, Sheryl Saville, Wamego and uncle, Phill Larmore, Manhattan. &nbsp;Sharon was also preceded in death by her parents, and infant daughter, Carissa.

Thelma’s life began on May 23, 1919, the daughter of Charley and Minnie (Nash) Baker in Wichita, Kansas. She attended East Center School, Furley Grade Schools and Whitewater High School. On June 1, 1938, she married Harold G. Eilert in Furley. Thelma was a farm wife, and in the 1940’s she worked for Beech Aircraft as a Rosie the Riveter. She was a school bus driver and custodian at Furley Grade School and also a custodian at Furley United Methodist Church. She retired as an activities director from Wheat State Manor in Whitewater.

Memberships included Furley United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She loved God, Jesus, her family and her Furley Church and community. She loved music, playing the piano and singing. She created beautifully embroidered quilts and pillowcases for her family. She loved chickens and cats, tending her flower gardens and taking care of her family, neighbors and the elderly in the community.

Her loving family includes her sons, Edwin (Jan) Eilert of Overland Park, Kansas, Ron Eilert of Arvada, Colorado, Gary (Lamoyne) Eilert of Valley Center, Kansas; daughter Cheryl (Keith) Slater of Furley; 12 grandchildren, John "Gary" Eilert, Scott (Meggan) Eilert, Jami (Mark) Schmideskamp, Robert (Eileen) Eilert, David (Kristoffer) Eilert-Kennelly, Douglas (Tiffany) Eilert, Lesa (Tom) Robke, Sheri (Donavin) Edgerle, Jackie (Tremayne) Reese, Karen (Ryan) Henning, Andrew (Lindsay) Slater, Gregg (Devon) Ulvedal, Jeff (Jeni) Ulvedal; great-grandchildren, Makenna, Ryan, Hailey, Allison, Paige, Maria, Kathryn, Adam, Shelby (Chris, Tyson, Seth, Lyric, Owen, Crosby, Xavier, Lauren, Robert, Skyler and Keegan; one great-great-grandson, Garrett; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Clarence Baker, Ethel Faufaw, Lucy Barker, Florence Kleider, Bertha Miers, Viola Eilert, George Baker and Pauline Hurn; daughter-in-laws, Patty and Linda Eilert. Thelma passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2020, at the age of 101 years old.

Her family will gather with friends on Saturday, June 20, from 10-11:00 a.m. with her funeral following at 11:00, both at Furley United Methodist Church, 11400 E 101st Street N., Valley Center, Kansas 67147. Thelma (Baker) Eilert - May 23, 1919-June 12, 2020 (age 101)

William “Bill” Streeter, 80, passed away on Friday, June 12th, at Via Christi Village, after a long and courageous battle with kidney failure. Bill was born on October 1939, in Clay Center, KS to Floyd R. and May Fern (Nemnich) Streeter. As a young child, Bill enjoyed playing baseball and bowling. He was a pinsetter in the lanes below the Idle Hour Club before the days of the automatic ones. He played basketball for one year in high school. In his spare time as an adult, he learned to play golf, still enjoyed bowling and was an excellent pool player. He loved playing any kind of cards, Yahtzee, crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles. He also enjoyed watching any kind of sports on TV. He always had a gift of gab and a couple of jokes to tell. He was a fun guy. Bill graduated from Clay County Community High School with the class of 1957. He joined the Navy after graduation. He served four years in the Navy and received an honorable discharge. He was married while still in California to Mary Warrick, and they returned to Clay Center. He worked at Tasty Pasty Bakery. While in Clay Center, their first child, William Robert, was born. They moved to Junction City about nine months later, and he had a bakery delivery route. After a short time, they returned to California and later divorced. He then met and married Claudia Buffington of Mount Pleasant, IA. They had a son Jeffery, and Bill adopted Claudia’s son, Evan, from a previous marriage. This marriage also ended in divorce. Bill &amp; Claudia remained good friends. Because Bill was on the road so much, Claudia was given custody of all of the boys. This allowed them to grow up together, and have Bill remain involved in their lives. Claudia was a wonderful person and will always be a part of our family as Bill would have wanted. Bill’s career as an independent encyclopedia salesman then started. He earned a number of sales awards throughout his career. He traveled extensively all over the United States and Hawaii. He loved Hawaii. Bill had lived at the Bicentennial Senior Apartments in Junction City, KS for the past seven years. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, his oldest son, a nephew and a great-nephew. Bill is survived by his ex-wife Claudia; his son Evan (Caroline) Harrogate, England; son Jeffery of Albuquerque, NM and son Ryan (Kellie) Ege of Aurora, CO; six grandkids and two great-grandkids. Also surviving are three siblings: Robert (Bev) Streeter, Marshalltown IA; Dottie Pokorney, Silver Lake, KS; and Rita (Corky) Acker, Topeka KS. Per Bill’s request, cremation will take place. Interment will be at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery at Clay Center, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was born November 3, 1926 to A. “Hiene” and Bernice Peterson in Abilene Kansas.&nbsp; After graduating from Abilene High School in 1944, he entered the United States Army at Ft. Riley, Kansas and served until 1946 in the Pacific Theatre in World War II. Bill was honorably discharged and returned to Abilene.

He worked at Rice Motor Company before joining the family business, Cedar Crest Dairy and Peterson Farms. He retired from farming in 2008. In retirement he worked at Holm Automotive.

ill had an abiding interest in his community through public service elected to the Abilene City Commission in 1985 and serving until 1999. He also served three terms as Mayor of Abilene 1988-89, 1991-92, and 1995-96.&nbsp; Following his mothers lead who delivered Meals on Wheels well into her eighties he also volunteered his time to the organization for many years. Bill was the oldest living member of the Abilene Elks Lodge. Bill was married to Phyllis Dautel at Saint Andrews Catholic Church, Abilene February 14, 1953. She survives.

His children are Susan (Charles) Thomas Manhattan, Kansas, Mark, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Bruce (Barbara) Houston, Texas. His grandchildren are Brooks and Cody Peterson, Denver Colorado, Carson and Madison Peterson, Houston Texas.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Pat Sweeney.

The rosary will be recited 6:30 pm Monday June 15, 2020 at St Andrews Catholic Church, Abilene. The family will greet guests in the Saint Andrews Parish Hall following the rosary.

Jacqueline Yvonne Hochstatter, 82 of Solomon passed away Friday, June 12, 2020.

 She was born November 17, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Bernell and Mary (Austen) Bowen. In 1989 she married Leonard Hochstatter, He preceded her in death June 14, 2009. Jacqueline was a housewife and worked at St. John’s Hospital for 10 years.

Jacqueline is survived by her children: Mary (Gary) Basel of Abilene, Kansas; Ambrose (Yvonne) Fish, Lodi, California; Geri (John) Cochran, Willington, Kansas; Brian Fish, Bakersfield, California; Edie (Jason) Olson, Solomon, Kansas and Kary Wagner of the home and her beloved Miffy Kitty. Brothers” Johnny (Michelle) Bowen, Mesa, Arizona; David (Jennifer) Davis Buena Park, California. 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard F. Jacqueline Yvonne Hochstatter, 82 of Solomon passed away Friday, June 12, 2020. She was born November 17, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Bernell and Mary (Austen) Bowen. In 1989 she married Leonard Hochstatter, He preceded her in death June 14, 2009. Jacqueline was a housewife and worked at St. John’s Hospital for 10 years. Jacqueline is survived by her children: Mary (Gary) Basel of Abilene, Kansas; Ambrose (Yvonne) Fish, Lodi, California; Geri (John) Cochran, Willington, Kansas; Brian Fish, Bakersfield, California; Edie (Jason) Olson, Solomon, Kansas and Kary Wagner of the home and her beloved Miffy Kitty. Brothers” Johnny (Michelle) Bowen, Mesa, Arizona; David (Jennifer) Davis Buena Park, California. 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard F. Hochstatter; Parents; Sons: Michael Leon and Randy Lee Todd. Sister, Judy Sickler and brother, Jimmy Bowen. Funeral services for Jacqueline will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 19, 2020 at Carlson-Becker Funeral Home with Pastor Ever Mudambanuki officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Mound Cemetery. Peter W Hampton, 91 of Abilene, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at Abilene Place.

 He was born March 11, 1929 in Abilene, the son of Dr. Glenn and Mary (Witmer) Hampton. He attended the local schools in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School. He attended Kansas State University until he joined the United States Navy, serving four years from 1950-1954. On February 6, 1951 he was united in marriage to Betty Neher in Abilene. Pete worked for Sterl Brothers Clothing Store, Keel’s Clothing Store, Martin Funeral Home as an ambulance driver, Smith Heating and Air, and returned to Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home until he retired.&nbsp; Pete was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. 

Pete is survived by his wife Betty. Son, Paul Hampton (Linda) and daughter, Rebecca Crumpton (Doug). Eight grandchildren: Allyson, Scott, Jordan, Mary, Zack, Marty, Mark and Suzanne. Eight great grandchildren. Niece Terri Hudson and nephew Greg Garten. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son David, sister Louise Garten and niece Connie Walls.

Because of restrictions due to COVID19, a family memorial service for Pete will be held at a later date when Betty is able to attend. Friends may come by the funeral home anytime Monday, June 15, 2020 from 9am until 6pm to sign the register book. Sherry Andres, age 90, of Manhattan, died on June2, 2020 at the Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan. She was born on Lower McDowell Creek Road in Geary County, Kansas, the daughter of Roscoe and Velma (Newsome) Matthews. On January 16, 1949 she was united in marriage to Raymond Andres. Sherry was a homemaker and later went to work at Duckwalls, McCall Pattern Company, and also worked at the office for Dr. Wertin at the Alternative Healthcare Chiropractic.

In the early 1980’s she opened Grandma’s Trunk Thrift Shop, with her sister Carol. It was a job she truly loved. She liked nothing better than sorting through stuff, cleaning it up, and getting it ready to be sold. Sherry loved visiting and taking care of all her customers. She was involved with the business for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant daughter Susan Kay, her husband Raymond Andres, her daughter Melody (Judith) Boltz and her brother Wesley Matthews. Survivors include her sister Carol Howard, brother Roger Matthews and his wife Mary, her son Roger Ray Andres; granddaughter Konii Thomas and her husband John, and grandson, Stephen Dalman and his wife Jessica. Also, her 5 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. The family will greet friends during a visitation from 9:00 until 11:00 Saturday June 20, 2020 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan. Marian D. Hopkins, age 91, passed away on June 3, 2020 in Stormont-Vail Health Care in Topeka. She was born on October 18, 1928 to parents Lewis and Viola Prestwood and lived her entire life in the Manhattan area. She graduated from Manhattan High School in 1946 and married her husband Gale "Jack" Hopkins on November 25, 1948. They shared 50 years of marriage until he passed away on March 1, 1999. Marian was a loving mother to two daughters and a homemaker. She and her husband owned and managed the Tuttle Creek Mobile Home Court for many years until retirement. Marian enjoyed reading, painting, square dancing, and golf and distinguished herself as being the first woman to hit a hole-in-one at the Stagg Hill Golf Club. She was a member of the Blue Valley Memorial United Methodist Church. She is survived by daughter Lynn Burkholder of Lederach, Pennsylvania. She has four grandchildren, Ben Broschart of Columbus, OH; Emily Broschart of Harleysville, PA; Leschia McElhaney of Arlington, TX; and Louis McElhaney of Wichita, KS. She has two great-grandchildren, Owen and Eloise Broschart of Columbus, OH. She is also survived by her brother, Galen Prestwood of Manhattan, KS. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Debra McElhaney in 2017. Doyle Glenn Rushing, 84, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at his home. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at the Junction City Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Mark Hatcher and Doyle Williams officiating. The cremated remains will be buried at a later date at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Junction City Church of the Nazarene. Doyle was born April 4, 1936 at Booneville, Arkansas the son of Nathan Jasper and Della Isabella (Tackett) Rushing. Doyle served in the United States Army. After serving in the Army, he worked various United States Civil Service jobs at various locations. His main vocation in Junction City was owning and operating Rushing and King Carpet Cleaning Business. He also was an over the road truck driver for some time. On May 5, 1962, he married Sharolyn (Sharri) Marie Stevens in Junction City, Kansas. Survivors include his wife Sharolyn (Sharri) of the home in Junction City; one son, Kevin Rushing and his wife Melinda of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two daughters, Vanessa Eisermann and her husband James of Junction City, Kansas and Dixie Stewart and her husband Randy of Cashion, Oklahoma; two brothers, Warren Rushing of Booneville, Arkansas and Billy Rushing of Tupman, California; one sister, Pauline Best of Bakersfield, Californina; seven grandchildren, Whittany Eisermann and fiance Anthony, Kendra McPherson and husband Matt, Kyle Eisermann and his wife Brianna, Ethan Stewart and fiance Meghan, Amy Fortune and husband Terry, Ryleigh Rushing and Katelyn Rushing; three great-grandchildren, Aurelia, Acacia and Connor. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Albert Rushing.
