Calvin D. Woods, 76, of Grandview Plaza, died Sunday, June 21, 2020 at Salina Regional Health Center. Calvin was born October 30, 1943 at Caraway, Arkansas, the son of Albert F. "Buddy" &amp; Alice "Nadine" (Wilson) Woods. He attended schools in Paragould Arkansas, and moved to Junction City in 1963. Calvin was a Lineman for Cable TV in Junction City from 1963-1969, and later was a Lineman for Flint Hills Electric Cooperative for 36 1/2 years. Calvin was a member of the B.P.O.E., Lodge #1037 (Elks), and the Eagles Lodge, both of Junction City. He married Barbara Ann Bullock on October 16, 1963 in Junction City. Barbara survives of the home. Other survivors include a son, Ronald Woods and his wife Kathryn, Grandview Plaza and Lisa Snody and her husband Robert, White City, a brother, Jimmie Lee Woods, Lafe, Arkansas; 3 grandchildren; and 3 great grandsons. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Angel Lea Woods in 1966; a sister, Wanda Fay; and 3 brothers, Albert "Arkie", John "J.W.", and Danny Woods. A graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 26, 2020 at Skiddy Cemetery, south of Junction City, with Pastor Brian Emig presiding. Tony L. Upshaw, 67, of Junction City, KS died June 22, 2020 at Ascension Via Christi. Cremation will take place and Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Timber Creek Cemetery. Wakefield, KS. Tony was born April 24, 1953 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France to Lewis and Martha (West) Upshaw. He married D'Anna (Dee) R. Myers on May 3, 1975. She survives at the home. Starting at a young age, Tony was instilled with hard work ethics. He spent his lifetime in construction and always sacrificed long hours away from his family. He loved boating, fishing, his Harley Davidson and kicking back with a cold one. He also enjoyed listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd while tinkering in his garage and had an eye for woodworking and home projects. He was proud of his two daughters who serve in the United States Air Force and enjoyed when his grandkids would visit, which brought a big smile to his face. Tony is also survived by his mother Martha of Junction City, KS; his daughters, Kelcey D. Upshaw of Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Kari A. (Nelson "June") Torres, two grandchildren, Tianna Torres and Elijah Torres all of Ellsworth Air Force Base, SD; his sister, Candice (Bryan) Vallieres of Nashua, NH and several nieces and nephews. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at the lake waterskiing and in later years he was an avid square dancer. He is survived by his sister Velma Becker of Abilene, sister-in-law Pauline Barten of Wichita, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Alfred, Herbert, and Alden Barten, sisters Alberta Snitker, Dorothy Barten and an infant sibling. Royal C. Barten

Nadine Allen, 96, of Manhattan, died Friday June 19, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. She was born on April 14, 1924 in DuBoise, Nebraska, the daughter of Sam and Lena (Bigler) Haxton. After graduating from Sabetha High School, Nadine attended the Kansas State Teachers College and earned her certificate to become a teacher. She taught school for several years until she was married to Harvey M. Allen. They were married on Easter Sunday, April 21, 1946 in Oneida, Kansas. While raising three daughters and two sons, Nadine and Harvey farmed in the Junction City area, in Belvue, as well as north of Manhattan near Westmoreland, and finally settled west of St. George in 1966. After the children were grown, Nadine went to work at Kansas State University as a custodian for many years. When she retired from K-State and sold her home, she continued to care for her grandchildren as they arrived. She moved across the country and back in order to help her daughters raise their children. Later, when she was needed, she moved to Leavenworth, to care for her older sister and live with her younger sister. The two sisters, in their 80’s, were active in church until Nadine had a stroke and had to move to an assisted living situation. Over the last few years, Nadine was a member of the Harvest Baptist Church in Manhattan. She enjoyed reading, working on puzzles, playing Bingo, and all things nature. She loved taking care of her plants and flowers. Nadine always enjoyed the time she spent with her family. She loved to be with them as often as she could and she took care of them any way she could. Nadine was preceded in death by her husband Harvey, her sons, Harvey Lee and Larry Miles Allen, and also her siblings, Ira Haxton, Wilbur Haxton, Edna Haxton, and May Crowley. She is survived by her children, Doris Henson, Bonnie Hull of Manhattan and Arlene Benson of Hutchinson; she is also survived by her nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday June 29, 2020 at the Manhattan First Assembly of Good, 2310 Candlewood Drive in Manhattan, with Pastor Rick Hernandez officiating. Nancy’s life began on August 11, 1955 in Eskridge, Kansas.  She was the daughter of Lewis “Wayne” and Gladys (Marken) Bloomfield.  Nancy grew up in Eskridge, Kansas and graduated from Mission Valley High School.  She was united in marriage to Dennis Good on December 1, 1973 in Eskridge.  Nancy worked for the Hallmark Store in Topeka until moving to Council Grove.  For the past six years, she worked for the Council Grove Schools in the cafeteria.

  Nancy helped her husband Dennis in training racing Quarter horses and then later Thoroughbred race horses and was very involved in the horse racing industry.  Nancy loved being outdoors, horse racing, attending any activities her grandchildren were involved in; such as, sports events, school functions, dance recitals, cheer leading events, plays, or livestock shows.  She was at nearly every event a grandchild was involved in and loved spending time with her family. 

 Her loving family includes her husband Dennis Good of Council Grove, mother Gladys Bloomfield of Eskridge, children Star (John) Veh of Council Grove, Bonnie (Alex) Birzer of Council Grove, Sandy (Alan) Black of Dustin, OK and Furrel (Jamie) Good of Choctaw, OK; grandchildren Nadine Armstrong, Elizabeth Armstrong, Wesley Veh, Jordan Birzer, Brett Birzer, Colby Birzer, Tayle Black, Taevyn Black, Allie Antes, Paisley Good and Everett Good; great grandchild K’Den and siblings twin sister Nina (Dean) Imthurn of Maple Hill and brother Charles (Amy) Bloomfield of Eskridge.

Michael’s life began on February 6, 1968 in Ann Arbor, MI.  He was the son of Larry J. and Mary M. (Shumaker) Loomis.  Michael was a graduate of Marion High School and worked around the area as a carpenter.  He was skilled at stucco work on buildings, an excellent roofer and could literally build or repair any structure.  He was meticulous with his tools, always cleaning each tool and hanging them back up in the same place after each use.  Michael enjoyed NASCAR racing, fishing and boating on the Cottonwood River.

  His loving family includes his children Justin (Melissa Tajchman ) Loomis, Ashley Loomis, Jason Marshall, Andi (Justin) Fike, Trai (Pamela Delzer) Santos, and Bree Fryman; grandchildren Tristin, Tyler, Kai, Conner, Ayden, Kobe, Haven and Carson; his spouse Jody Loomis and brothers John Loomis of Hillsboro and Tim Loomis of Topeka.

Michael T Loomis - February 6, 1968-June 19, 2020 (age 52)

Mildred V. Feyerabend, resident of Chapman, Kansas, passed away on June 22, 2020 at Chapman Valley Manor at the age of 103 years.

Mildred was born September 1, 1916, at rural Chapman KS. Her parents were Hayes R. and Kathryn E. (Lyon) Blair. She attended Sanborn and Chapman Grade Schools and graduated from Dickinson County High School in 1935. After graduation, she worked for the Mercantile Company and Sanborn Lumber, both in Chapman. She was married to Wayne E. Feyerabend on June 1, 1943 at Chapman, KS. They moved to Wichita, KS where she worked in the general accounting office at Beech Aircraft. Later, they moved to Herington, KS in 1947, and she worked with her husband in their Western Auto Store for 31 years. After retiring, they moved to Salina in 1984 where she lived with her husband and was neighbor to her sister, Vanda and her husband Irl.

 After the deaths of their husbands, Mildred and Vanda planned to move back to Chapman. Vanda passed away before the move and Mildred made the move to the Chapman Valley Manor Independent Living duplex along with her poodle Sam, and Vanda’s poodle, Sally. She enjoyed time back in Chapman and loved visits from her neighbors, friends and family. She was a member of the Chapman United Methodist Church.

Mildred loved to cook at home and would not only prepare her meals but also special meals for her poodles, Sam and Sally.  During the summer months, she enjoyed radish sandwiches. She enjoyed visiting with neighbors, sharing special items from Sam’s and Russell Stover and early morning telephone calls were favorites as well.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Feyerabend in 1993; sister and brother in law, Vanda and Irl Sheets.

The family has chosen cremation. Funeral service will be held at the Chapman United Methodist Church, 426 Sheeran St. at 11:00 a.m., June 30, 2020. Pastor Connie Wooldridge officiating.   We will be taking precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 through social distancing and use of masks.  Please be prepared to sign-in to the service with your name, address and phone number, requested by the Dickinson County Health Department.  Burial will follow at the Liberty Cemetery, Upland, KS. Mildred V. Feyerabend

Jo Ann Horton, age 89 of Manhattan, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2020 in the Sloan House at Meadowlark Hills.

The daughter of Ernst Paul and Mary Alice (Rowe) Sinn; she was born at the family farm near Keats to a national celebration on July 4, 1930.  As a child, she thought the 4th of July fireworks were for her birthday celebration.  She graduated from Keats High School.

While walking to class at K-State, she engaged in a spirited discussion on the merits of women drivers with a GI named William M. Horton.  It lead to more discussions and on June 4, 1950, she married that same Bill Horton at K-State’s All Faith’s Chapel.  They started their married life in Belle Plaine, KS before moving to Ventura, California. He preceded her in death on February 18, 2007. 

Jo was an elementary school teacher for many years at Poinsettia Elementary School in Ventura, California.  She enjoyed reading, drawing,  playing golf and bridge, snow skiing and traveling. She is survived by one brother, Carl Sinn and wife Lorene of Manhattan; one sister, Nancy Nelson and husband Glen of Manhattan; her sister-in-law, Kathleen Sinn of Manhattan; her step daughter, Lorraine Huff of Troy; many nieces and nephews and step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Eugene Sinn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home with Chaplain Patty Brown-Barnett, D. Min. officiating.  The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday.  Burial will be in the Riley Cemetery. Jo Ann Horton, age 89 of Manhattan, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2020 in the Sloan House at Meadowlark Hills.The daughter of Ernst Paul and Mary Alice (Rowe) Sinn; she was born at the family farm near Keats to a national celebration on July 4, 1930. As a child, she thought the 4th of July fireworks were for her birthday celebration. She graduated from Keats High School.While walking to class at K-State, she engaged in a spirited discussion on the merits of women drivers with a GI named William M. Horton. It lead to more discussions and on June 4, 1950, she married that same Bill Horton at K-State’s All Faith’s Chapel. They started their married life in Belle Plaine, KS before moving to Ventura, California. He preceded her in death on February 18, 2007. Jo was an elementary school teacher for many years at Poinsettia Elementary School in Ventura, California. She enjoyed reading, drawing, playing golf and bridge, snow skiing and traveling. Alton Dean Lawson (Al), 60, of Abilene Kansas, left this world on June 10th 2020.

He was born 20 December 1959 in Detroit Michigan, the son of Robert and Sarah Badder Lawson.&nbsp; Al worked construction, specifically roofing, and liked to work on cars. He loved to work and took pride in whatever he was doing. He would do anything for a friend, even a stranger. He was extremely generous and would give away most of what he had because material things did not mean anything to him. Al had a great sense of humor and used it to cheer others up, liven up the party or befriend a stranger. He loved his eight brothers and sisters and adored his two children and six grandchildren. This world has lost a HUGE-hearted man, but Heaven has gained a dear soul. His family looks forward to the day they will be reunited in Heaven. He was proceeded in death by: His Sister Linda Lawson, Mother Sarah Badder Lawson, father Robert Lawson, step-mother, Eloise Lawson, and Nephew Chris Lawson. Wayne A. Jones, 67, passed away Friday, June 19, in Solomon.

He was born June 11, 1953 in Salina, the son of Jack M. and Helen I. (Moser) Jones. Growing up in Solomon he attended local schools, graduating from Solomon High School. Born October 23, 1929 in Jewell, KS, Died June 16, 2020 in Manhattan, KS aged 90 years. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, sons, Norman and Eric, and daughter Laura, his two grandchildren, Georgia (Kevin) Schafer and Ely, and two great-grand-daughters. Service and interment will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery at a later date. Ernie was raised by his Grandmother and Aunt at 14th and Poyntz in Manhattan. Graduating from Manhattan High School in 1947, he started his college education at Kansas State University that year and attended classes until 1951 while working full time as a sign painter. As a sign painter he built much of the marquee for the Campus Theater, including all of the neon lights, that later became the Varney’s marquee and is now used for the New Year’s celebration. This avocation remained later in life as he numbered, pinstriped, and painted on many stock and antique cars for Matt Betton and others, as well as Bill Noble's Formula V, in addition to all the Bell Taxis in Manhattan for several years; first by hand, then later with silk screens. After a break when activated for military service in 1951, he continued his classes at KSU in 1955 while working full time and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Fine Arts in 1958. He enrolled in graduate school in the fall of 1958 while working full time as an instructor at KSU. Again, his education was interrupted when he was activated for military service in 1961 for the Berlin Crisis and the Cuban Missile Crisis. After returning to work and graduate school in 1963, he completed his Master of Science Degree in 1965. Ernie enlisted in the Kansas Army National Guard in 1948 and had a career spanning 35 years, having been a Warrant Officer, a commissioned officer, until finally retiring at the rank of Colonel. He was on the National Guard Hi Power Rifle Team for many years as a shooter and coach. In 1964 he was awarded the President’s Hundred tab as one of the top 100 shooters in the nation at the National Matches. Ernie became the commander of the 105th Public Affairs Detachment for the Kansas Army National Guard in the mid-70s, where he capitalized on his lifelong photography hobby and developed his writing skills. Later, he would become the Public Affairs Officer for the Kansas National Guard. Ernie has had a passion for shooting sports and gunsmithing starting as a teenager. His interest in gunsmithing led him to run his own custom gunsmithing shop from the 1950s through 2010. He made many custom rifles and repaired many pistols, shotguns and rifles for many sportsmen in the local community. In later years, he took up knife making and engraving donating many of his custom engraved knives as fundraisers to many organizations including: Riley County Fish and Game Association, 4-H Shooting Sports, National Wild Turkey Federation. He was very proud of his enduring commitment to introducing and training youth and women in shooting sports as a NRA Training Counselor including 4-H shooting sports, Becoming an Outdoor Woman, Hunter Education, and Women in the Outdoors. He also spent many volunteer hours in helping to establish and run the Fancy Creek Range. Ernie has always had a talent for art. From the time he was very young he has done drawing, sketching, painting, woodcarving and finally engraving. He was known for his caricatures which he drew many times on bar napkins (or any available paper surface) to become acquainted with people. In the last 20 years, he was dedicated to developing his watercolor skills and produced many excellent landscape and barn paintings. He looked forward to participating in his Wednesday Watercolor Group at the Manhattan Art Council Building and enjoyed all of his “Watercolor Friends.” Ernie actively participated in many civic organizations; belonging to Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, he was also a three-time past Master of the Lafayette Masonic Lodge, a member of the American Legion, Kansas Fish and Game, and the National Rifle Association. Additionally, he served as a judge for several county's photography entries at annual 4-H county fairs. Ernie enjoyed his books, both fiction to feed his imagination and non-fiction to learn how to do things or learn how to do things better. He built and surrounded himself with his own library, his own personal internet before there was an internet. He was a lifelong learner in anything he became interested in doing. He will be missed and we will all remember the good times we had with him.

Wayne Eugene Clark, 71, of Wamego, died Friday afternoon, June 12th. He was the former owner of Wayne's Paint and Body Shop. Born in Concordia, KS on October 16, 1948, the son of the late Martha A. (Rush) Clark and Birch L. Clark. Wayne was a 1966 Graduate of the Concordia High School, he was a patron of The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Manhattan, former president of Sertoma Club of Manhattan, former president of the regional Coachman Camper Club, an avid motorcyclist, and gardener. Wayne is survived by three sons Jared, Devin (Jamie) and, Adam (Lindsy) Clark all of Manhattan, grandchildren, his brother, Dean, and sister Allison Clark. Along with his ex-wife Brenda N. Clark. James K. "Jim" McRae, 80, of Junction City, died Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at Geary Community Hospital.

Jim was born June 27, 1939 in Manhattan, the son of John F. and Lola (Edgerton) McRae.&nbsp; Jim grew up in Junction City, attended Junction City schools, and graduated from Junction City High School in the Class of 1957.

After high school, he and his brothers worked for several years in their father's business, McRae TV in Junction City.&nbsp; He later was involved with several retail sales businesses in Junction City, Holton, Manhattan, and Topeka, as well as acquiring and managing rental properties.

Jim married Patricia Day on Feb. 1, 1959 in Junction City.&nbsp; Pat survives of the home. Other survivors include 2 daughters, Lorie K. Kufahl and husband Bruce, Junction City, and Jayme Mavrovich and husband Randall, Holton; a brother, Tom McRae and wife Joyce, Junction City; a sister-in-law Wanda McRae, Junction City; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandson.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; 2 daughters, Chris Monaghan in 2010, and Diana McRae in 1987; and 3 brothers, Bill McRae, Richard McRae, and John Ray McRae.

It was Jim's wish to be cremated.&nbsp; A graveside inurnment service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Ashland Cemetery south of Manhattan, with Pastor Nate Butler presiding.

Edward “Eddie” Lewis Shouse III, age 36 of Riley, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020 at his residence.

 

He was born on August 25, 1983, the son of Edward “Butch” Shouse II and Sue “Omma” Shouse.

He proudly served in the US Army in the 1/28 Black Lions 4th BDE 1st Infantry Division from 2007-2013.&nbsp; He served two combat deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq.

On September 8, 2018 he married his love Bridget Covello of Riley, Kansas.

Eddie was a genuine and humble person who always stayed true to his Christian faith.&nbsp; He was a proud Georgia Bulldog fan who had a love for tattoos (known as Big Red at the tattoo shop) and guns. Additionally, Eddie loved fishing with his boys (Brayden, Parker, &amp; Joey) and cooking for his family and friends.



He is survived by his wife, Bridget Covello-Shouse; four children Brayden (14), Parker (15), Joey Covello and Kirsten Covello of Schofield Barracks, HI, and Samantha Covello of Topeka, KS, and he was the proud “Pappy” of one grandchild Mazikeen Covello.&nbsp; He is also survived by his Kansas&nbsp;family, Jeff and Gina Flikkie of Riley KS, Heather and Blake White of Frankfort, KS, Tommy and Jessica Flikkie and their children Logan and Gavin (Gooey) of Manhattan, KS.

Edward “Eddie” Lewis Shouse III

Phyllis M. Shields,95, passed away Friday, June 19, 2020, in Abilene.

 She was born October 7, 1924 near Clay Center, the daughter of Philip and Elsie (Durbin) Beals. Growing up in the area, Phyllis attended local schools and graduated from Miltonvale/Wesleyan school.&nbsp; August 10, 1952 she was married to William F. Shields in Clay Center. The early years of their married life were spent in Clay Center before moving to Abilene in 1957. Phyllis had been employed by Alco warehouse and Daylight Donuts in Abilene. He preceded her in death December 27, 1997.She enjoyed reading, playing the piano and singing.

Phyllis M. Shields,95, passed away Friday, June 19, 2020, in Abilene. She was born October 7, 1924 near Clay Center, the daughter of Philip and Elsie (Durbin) Beals. Growing up in the area, Phyllis attended local schools and graduated from Miltonvale/Wesleyan school.&nbsp; August 10, 1952 she was married to William F. Shields in Clay Center. The early years of their married life were spent in Clay Center before moving to Abilene in 1957. Phyllis had been employed by Alco warehouse and Daylight Donuts in Abilene. He preceded her in death December 27, 1997.She enjoyed reading, playing the piano and singing. Phyllis was also preceded in death by&nbsp;her parents; a son, Billy; three sisters and two brothers. Vicki Lea Livengood, 67, Wamego, KS passed away Friday, June 19, 2020 at Ascension Via Christi Manhattan, Kansas.

On March 22, 1953, Vicki was born to Fred W. and Jewel D. Neal Hittle, in Hugoton, KS.&nbsp; Vicki graduated from Sublette High School and then graduated from Seward County Community College where she obtained an Associate’s Degree in nursing and as an RN. Vicki worked in nursing for her entire career, either as an RN with hospital patients or in administration. She worked for over 35 combined years at Mercy Hospital and Ascension Via Christi, and most recently as Director of Nursing-House Supervision.&nbsp; Vicki was united in marriage with Don Livengood on July 29, 1972 in Hugoton, KS.

Vicki had a strong passion for her work. She also loved to decorate her home (which she was very good at), loved her cats, and especially enjoyed doing anything to spend time with her grandkids.

She is preceded in death by her husband Don, Nov. 2018, and her daughter Shlaya, June 2019, and her parents.

Survivors include her daughter, LaCrecia Heiman (Dan), of Wamego, KS, a brother, Dan Hittle (Ila), Pratt, KS; and four grandchildren, Madisyn, Jaidyn, Keyarrah, and Khaige.

Robert R. Schalles, age 85, of Manhattan, died June 19, 2020, at Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice in Manhattan. He was born March 25, 1935, in Durango, Colorado, the son of Philip J. and Ada L. Robert proudly served in the United States Navy in Korea, Pacific Submarine Fleet in submarine repair from 1954 to 1958 and then in the reserves until 1962. Dr. Robert Schalles graduated from Ignacio High School in Ignacio, CO, earned his BS from Colorado State University and then his MS and PhD from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Dr. Schalles was a Professor of Genetics in Animal Science and Industry at Kansas State University. Dr. Schalles retired in 1998 after almost 32 years of service to the ASI Department. His expertise in population and quantitative genetics, in addition to beef cattle management, enabled him to contribute significantly to the animal breeding, genetics teaching, and research program at Kansas State University. He developed an innovative and practical research focus relevant to the needs of the beef cattle industry. Bob was an educator and mentor. He believed it was a privilege to help young people learn. He had received numerous public service awards. He served as president and chairman of the board of the American Simmental Association and the Kansas Simmental Association. He also had the privilege to travel and speak internationally. Robert was a loving and devoted family man and a loyal friend to many. He was a stockman, Master Gardener, pilot, woodworker and bird watcher. Bob was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge #16 AF &amp; AM and was a 32nd Degree Mason, ISIS Shrine Temple, Manhattan Shrine Club, Phi Kappa Phi and NDEA Graduate Fellowship. He was married to Betty E. Sewell on December 30, 1956, in Monte Vista, CO. Betty preceded him in death on August 8, 1998. On January 1, 2000, in Manhattan, he was married to Daisy M. Fielder. Mrs. Schalles survives of Manhattan. Christopher Michael Day, 38, of Leonardville, Kansas, died Friday, June 19, 2020 in a highway accident near Leonardville.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was a life-long resident of the area.

Chris was born on October 9, 1981, the son of Micheal and Dawn Brockopp Day.&nbsp; He attended Rock Creek School and graduated from Manhattan High School in 2000.&nbsp; Chris then attended Highland Community College and received an Associate’s Degree.

Chris has worked his adult life as a union laborer for Laborer’s Union 1290.&nbsp; He worked in a variety of construction jobs.

Chris was known for his willingness to help friends and neighbors in his community, especially the elderly.&nbsp; He mowed lawns, cleaned basements, or any other thing that they needed help with.&nbsp; He loved his old Mustang cars and running his dogs.

Chris is survived by his parents, Mike Day (Ladonna Piper), St. George and Dawn Julian (Scott), Westmoreland; his significant other, Julie Kenfield, of their home, and her daughter, Kacee Butterfield, Parker Colorado; his brother, Thomas Day, St. George; and his aunts, Donna Edwards, Junction City and Sue Brockopp, Duluth, Minnesota.

Nathen was born September 24, 1994, in Denton, Texas, the son of Tim Fielder and Christy Jensen. &nbsp;He attended local schools and graduated from Fossil Ridge&nbsp;High School in Keller, TX.&nbsp;

Nathen joined the United States Army and service as a Mortarman. &nbsp;He was stationed at Fort Riley. &nbsp;Over the last few months, Nathen worked for Shilling Construction in Manhattan.

Nathen loved to work on cars and spending time with his friends talking about cars.

Nathen married Amanda Kay Graves on April 24, 2016, in Harvey County, Kansas. &nbsp;She survives.

Nathen is also survived by his children, Braxton and Braylen Graves, of the home, and Kaison Sigg, &nbsp;of Hays; his father and step-mother, Tim and Suzanne Fielder, Sedalia, Missouri; his mother, Christy Jensen, Breckenridge, Texas, his paternal grandmother, Phyllis Fielder, Gainesville, Texas; his siblings, Nicole Coppa (Kelly), Euless, Texas, Travis Fielder (Deanna), North Lake, Texas, Kristen Bingham (Robert), Lewisville, Texas and Raven Fielder, Breckenridge, Texas.

Washington Street Junction City, KS. Grady will lie in state from 10-10:30 Thursday before the funeral at Trinity Lutheran Church in Abilene. Grady was born on June 5th, 2010, in Manhattan, Kansas. The son of Luke Lewis Erichsen and Joanna Beth (Riffel) Erichsen. He was especially loved by his big sister Gracie. Grady attended Lincoln Elementary through 3rd grade. He was well known by his Lincoln Lion friends for being a buddy to everyone he met. Most will recall his wonderful, all-encompassing hugs that were freely and enthusiastically given. He had a smile that could brighten up any room and his laughter was contagious. Grady had a great fondness for cheeseburgers, chocolate frosted doughnuts with no sprinkles and chocolate ice cream. You could usually find Grady in the great outdoors. He loved playing outside, hunting, fishing and working with his 4-H projects. He was a member of the Clarks Creek 4-H club and truly enjoyed showing his hogs. He was very partial to Allis Chalmers tractors and took every opportunity to ride his Grandma and Grandpa’s and Great Grandpa Floyd’s. He proudly wore his #43 while playing football for the Junior Jays. His favorite baseball number was #16. When it came to sports he would always cheer for his Royals, Chiefs, K-State Wildcats, and Nebraska. Most importantly, Grady loved his family and friends. There was not a single soul who encountered Grady that did not walk away with a bit of Grady’s zest for life. We will miss him tremendously. He is survived by his father Luke, mother Joanna, sister Gracie, grandparents Wayne and Karen Erichsen and Rod and Darlene Riffel and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends who loved him dearly. Antoinette (Toni) Marie Novelly, aged 99, died peacefully on July 18, 2020 at her home at Oakley Place in Rossville.&nbsp; She was the first child born to Antone and Marie (Eckert, Wingate) Weixelman on February 5, 1921 at their farm north of Louisville, Kansas. She attended the Broderick grade school (formerly located at the intersection of Broderick and Marten roads) and graduated high school in 1938 at St. Joseph’s in Flush, Kansas and received her diploma in nursing from St. Mary College in Leavenworth, Kansas in 1940.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Her nursing led to her being commissioned as a Naval Officer during World War II and she was stationed at the US Naval Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma.&nbsp; Following the war, she continued her nursing career in Tulsa where she met Walter (Walt) Orlando Novelly.&nbsp; They married at St. Joseph Church, Flush, Kansas on January 28, 1950. Toni and Walt raised six children, starting in Tulsa and later moving to San Antonio in 1965 and then suburban Houston in 1974. Toni enjoyed sewing, baking and gardening.&nbsp; Walt pre-deceased Toni in 2014.&nbsp;

Toni is survived by son Gregory (Lisa) Novelly, of Colorado Springs; daughter Maria (Jonathon) Shapiro and grandchildren Matthew and Amy Shapiro, of Stockport, England; daughter Nancy (Gerald) Naumann, of Boerne TX, and granddaughter Christy (Guy) Earle and their two children, of Corinth TX; granddaughter Michelle (Kurt) Johnson, and their two sons, of San Antonio, and grandson Richard (Alexandra) Naumann and their three children, of Sandy Hook, CT; son Nicholas (Denise) Novelly, St. Marys, KS and granddaughter Anastasia Novelly of Dallas, TX, grandson Trent (Kimberly) Novelly and their two sons of Pittsburg, PA, grandsons Antone and Austin Novelly, and granddaughters Eileen and Lucia Novelly of St Marys KS; son Paul (Amy) Novelli and granddaughters Jacquelyn and Isabella Novelli of Granbury TX; youngest sister Bernadine Weixelman of Blytheville, Arkansas; youngest brother James Thomas (Jill) Weixelman, of Wamego, KS; and sister-in-law Diane Weixelman, of Ft. Antoinette (Toni) Marie Novelly, aged 99, died peacefully on July 18, 2020 at her home at Oakley Place in Rossville.&nbsp; She was the first child born to Antone and Marie (Eckert, Wingate) Weixelman on February 5, 1921 at their farm north of Louisville, Kansas. She attended the Broderick grade school (formerly located at the intersection of Broderick and Marten roads) and graduated high school in 1938 at St. Joseph’s in Flush, Kansas and received her diploma in nursing from St. Mary College in Leavenworth, Kansas in 1940.&nbsp; &nbsp;Her nursing led to her being commissioned as a Naval Officer during World War II and she was stationed at the US Naval Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma.&nbsp; Following the war, she continued her nursing career in Tulsa where she met Walter (Walt) Orlando Novelly.&nbsp; They married at St. Joseph Church, Flush, Kansas on January 28, 1950. Toni and Walt raised six children, starting in Tulsa and later moving to San Antonio in 1965 and then suburban Houston in 1974. Toni enjoyed sewing, baking and gardening.&nbsp; Walt pre-deceased Toni in 2014.&nbsp;Toni is survived by son Gregory (Lisa) Novelly, of Colorado Springs; daughter Maria (Jonathon) Shapiro and grandchildren Matthew and Amy Shapiro, of Stockport, England; daughter Nancy (Gerald) Naumann, of Boerne TX, and granddaughter Christy (Guy) Earle and their two children, of Corinth TX; granddaughter Michelle (Kurt) Johnson, and their two sons, of San Antonio, and grandson Richard (Alexandra) Naumann and their three children, of Sandy Hook, CT; son Nicholas (Denise) Novelly, St. Marys, KS and granddaughter Anastasia Novelly of Dallas, TX, grandson Trent (Kimberly) Novelly and their two sons of Pittsburg, PA, grandsons Antone and Austin Novelly, and granddaughters Eileen and Lucia Novelly of St Marys KS; son Paul (Amy) Novelli and granddaughters Jacquelyn and Isabella Novelli of Granbury TX; youngest sister Bernadine Weixelman of Blytheville, Arkansas; youngest brother James Thomas (Jill) Weixelman, of Wamego, KS; and sister-in-law Diane Weixelman, of Ft. Kasma Soram, 60, of Manhattan, died June 10, 2020 at the Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. He was born on June 23, 1959 in Pohnpei, Federated State of Micronesia, the son of Mioko Nakanaga and William Soram. Kasma lived with his cousin Tony Lucios for over 20 years. He came to the United States in 2006 and lived with his cousin Tony’s daughter, Lisiana Lucios Micky. He worked at various jobs, including STIX and Harus located in the Kansas City area, and then in Manhattan, Kasma worked at Thai Noodle. He was very dedicated to his jobs, always was on time and always willing to work extra and he never called in sick. He was a very humble down to earth person. Kasma enjoyed his time relaxing and having a couple of drinks or a cold beer. People who met Kasma will never forget his passion for his work, his kindness and being a humble person. He was preceded in death by his parents and his seven siblings. Kasma will be missed by his nieces and nephews and all of his family, who were all so important to him. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Martha (Peg) Jane McAdams-Fegter, 85, passed way in the home on June 11, 2020 in Manhattan, KS. Peggy was born in Salina, KS on September 3, 1934 to Bert and Emma Vinson Eye. She was a graduate from Abilene High School in 1951. Peg married Donald Raymond McAdams, from Herrington, KS, on March 2, 1952 who preceded her in death. Peg married Stanley Edward Fegter, from Manhattan, KS, October 9, 1976. Peg worked as a receptionist and switchboard operator at McCall Pattern Company and held positions at Kansas State University and First Bank. She stopped working outside the home in 1986 to babysit her first grandchild and the six who followed. Peg, known as Nanny to her grandkids and their friends, took pride in babysitting all seven grandkids throughout various stages of their youth allowing dual-working parents the confidence that they were being raised with love. Peg and Stan enjoyed dances at the American Legion, traveling to visit relatives, snow skiing in Colorado, and playing cards with friends. Stan and Peg attended Westview Community Church. Peg also loved roller skating, shopping and auctions, being in the sun and any time with family. Peggy is survived by her husband, Stan Fegter, of Manhattan; children Mike (Lisa) McAdams of Manhattan, Sean (Lisa) McAdams of St. George and Marcie (Warren) Scipio of Manhattan; seven grandchildren, Whitney, Taylor, Jaron, Dakota, Tiesha, Warren and Mariah; 3 great-grandchildren, Bryce, Mason and Addison; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers Vinson and Kenny Eye, sister Mac Cramer and two sons, Richard (Rick) and Mark McAdams. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Helen M. Kappel, 84, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2020, in Chapman. 

She was born September 9, 1935 in Abilene, the daughter of Earl and Mary (Foltz) Kogler. Growing up in Abilene Helen attended local schools. September 27, 1957 she married Norman Kappel in Abilene. All of their married life was spent in Abilene. He preceded her in death July 17, 2010. 

Helen was a self employed daycare provider for twenty eight years and a member of the Abilene First United Methodist Church.

 She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Linda Kappel; brother Bruce Kogler and infant sister, Marilyn Kogler.

Helen is survived by son George (Judy) Kappel of Abilene; two daughters, Lorrie (Ric) Riggs of Abilene; Julie Kappel of Topeka; brother, Earl Kogler Jr. of Altamone Springs, Florida; two step-sister, Jody (Bob) Reichel of Hansen, Idaho, Kay (Rickard) Waugh of King George, Virginia; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2020 at the Abilene Cemetery with Pastor John Collins officiating. Todd Alan Hansen, age 51, of Manhattan, Kansas, died June 15, 2020, at his home. He was born on July 25, 1968, in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Robert and Phyllis (Toy) Hansen. Todd married Brandi Wheeler, they later divorced and they have two daughters: Josie Hansen and Shaunasey Hansen both of St. George, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Hansen. Todd worked for the McCall Pattern Company for 29 years as a press operator and later as shift supervisor until his health declined. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and going to and watching NASCAR races as well as K-State sports. Todd is survived by his daughter Josie and Shaunasey Hansen. His mother Phyllis Hansen and two brothers: Jason (Denise) Hansen and three nieces: Ava, Kailee and Ainsley of Oak Grove, MO, as well as his brother James Hansen of Newport Beach, CA; and uncles, aunts and cousins. A private family burial will be in the St. George Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
