Barrett, age 83, of Niles, will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2020 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Solomon with Father John Wolesky as Celebrant. Mr. Barrett passed away Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina. He was born October 14, 1936 in Niles the son of Mike and Stella (Murphy) Barrett. He graduated from high school in Atchison, Kansas and attended seminary school and K-State. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, served in the Army-Air corps reserves and was a lifelong Niles area farmer and rancher. On February 27, 1960, Tom was united in marriage to Janice Hersh in Salina. Survivors include his sons Tommy and wife Kathy Barrett and Mark Barrett all of Niles, and four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife on July 28, 2008, his brother Mike in 1990, and his parents. Mr. Barrett’s final resting place will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery near Solomon. A Parish Rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the church. Friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and after 6:00 pm at the church. Randa “Randy” Lee Tessendorf, 67, Onaga, KS passed away on Monday, July 13, 2020 at his home.

On November 29, 1953, Randy was born to Gilbert and Christeen (Goddard) Tessendorf in Westmoreland, Kansas.&nbsp; He graduated from Wamego High School.&nbsp; Randy was a carpenter for most of his life, excelling in many areas of his work.&nbsp; He was united in marriage with his soul mate, Judy Fay Jackson, on September 28, 2014.&nbsp; She survives of the home.

Randy enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle.&nbsp; He was also known for having the best looking vegetable garden and loved watching any kind of sporting event.

He is also survived by 3 children, Randa Harless (Kristy), Montana, Kelly Tessendorf, Georgia, and Ashley Vargo, Georgia; two sisters, Lena Simmer, Wamego, KS, and Lois Tessendorf, Salina, KS; and six grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Matthew Tessendorf, and a sister, Catherine Mooney.

Leonard Joseph Cameron Jr. was born November 24, 1930 in Clyde, Kansas to Leonard Fredrick Sr. and Lena (Girard) Cameron. &nbsp;Leonard grew up in Clay Center, Kansas. He married Charlene Sterrett on March 16, 1952. She preceded him in death on November 7, 2007. Leonard owned and operated an automotive business in Manhattan before moving to Washington state. There he worked as a construction foreman for Snelson’s until retiring and moving back to Kansas in 2003. He later married Thelma Thomas on February 2, 2009. Leonard was a member of Brotherhood of Electric. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Belinda Sue Cameron; brother, Gene Cameron; and sisters, Mary Williams, Lyla Green, and Lorene Wilford.

It was Leonard’s wishes for cremation to take place with no services to follow.

Jackie (Jack) L. Allen, 72, of Junction City, KS, passed away on July 13, 2020.&nbsp; Johnson Funeral Home is assisting the family with cremation arrangements. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Jack was born on September 25, 1947, in Maryville, Missouri to Roy and Ruth (Reese) Allen. He grew up in Missouri where he graduated high school. He then joined the United States Army for four years. Jack married his first wife in 1972. Of that union came the only son Troy in August 1979. They divorced in 1983. Jack lived in many places but ultimately settled in Junction City Kansas. On December 26,1989 he married Marion Dawn Allen. Marion passed away January 18, 2013. Since 2014 he has enjoyed the company of his significant other Linda Kelley until his passing. He worked on Fort Riley as a maintenance supervisor for over 20 years before he retired. Jack was an active member of the American Legion Post #45, VFW post #8773, the Eagles, and the Elks Lodge #1037 all of Junction City. He was an active outdoorsman who loved to fish and a handyman. Most of all Jack lived for helping people. He was a loving husband, caring father, adoring grandfather, and loyal friend. Jack is survived by his loving family: son, Troy and wife Candy Allen of Forney, TX; two step-sons, Alan and wife Mary Heindel of FL and Dennis and wife Kelli Heindel of Milford, KS; three grandchildren, Jos Heindel of Junction City, KS, Tyler Heindel of Junction City, KS, and Chloe Allen; significant other, Linda Kelley of Junction City, KS; and a host of loving family and friends. Richard was born on January 27, 1950, in Cairo, Georgia to John and Frances (Griffin) Hall. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Army and proudly served for over 20 years. He was stationed in many places domestic and abroad. During his time in service, he earned many awards and decorations that include but are not limited to: the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (5 Campaigns), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (5), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation Badge with Palm. He married Yong Sun Kang in Seoul, Korea on December 27, 1982. They later had a son, Richard Jr., from this union. Upon Richard's retirement he made Junction City, KS his home. Richard was a hard worker. After his retirement from the Army, he went on to work as a custodial care manager for USD 475 for 20 years. He also worked at the Junction City foundry and the company Mobile Travelers. Though he worked diligently to provide for his family, he knew how to balance work life and leisure time. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. Above all he was a loving husband, dedicated father, adoring grandfather, and beloved friend. Donna's life began on September 21, 1932 in Marion.&nbsp; She was the daughter of Orville and Clara (Gaunt) Miesse.&nbsp; Donna was baptized in 1944 at the Marion Christian Church. Growing up on a farm with only her brothers as playmates, Donna was a tomboy.&nbsp; She grew up loving horses and riding them was her greatest passion.&nbsp; In the summer, Donna helped around the house, worked in the garden, gathered eggs, and milked cows.&nbsp; Saturdays in town was a chance to have fun while her mother sold eggs and cream.

Taking lessons on the trumpet and piano instilled a passion for music.&nbsp; Donna also took voice lessons and she dreamed of becoming a professional singer.&nbsp; She was a 1950 graduate of Marion High School and attended Emporia State University.

Donna was united in marriage to James R. Fruechting on October 16, 1955 in Marion and they built a good life over 53 years of marriage.&nbsp; The couple lived in Washington DC briefly after being married while Jim completed his military service, then they moved to Marion where they resided on several farms, where they raised cattle and chickens.&nbsp; They moved to town after buying the hardware store and built two houses in Marion.

She was a lifelong member of the Marion Christian Church and involved in all aspects of church including CWF president, program chair and treasurer.&nbsp; Donna guided the Worship and Scholarship committees for many years.&nbsp; She sang in the choir and served as choir director.&nbsp; Donna taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School regularly and served as the President of the Neo-Century Club for many years.&nbsp;

Donna worked for Marion High School and Farmer's and Drover's Bank after high school.&nbsp; She loved accounting and worked for her sister Dorothy Varenhorst as the bookkeeper for Van's Clothing Store for many years.&nbsp; When Donna and Jim bought the Marion Hardware and Gift Store in 1975, she continued to manage the business accounting as well as buy china, crystal, and appliances for the store.&nbsp; Donna also loved giving microwave cooking classes.&nbsp;

Donna's children, grandchildren, and extended family members were her favorite pastime, she was always interested in their current activities and accomplishments.&nbsp; Playing the piano, singing, reading, embroidery, crocheting and knitting were also her favorite with many baby afghans and pillowcases as treasured gift.&nbsp; Donna's favorite activity was to cook for her family, church dinners and bake on Saturday mornings.&nbsp; She made the best cinnamon rolls, bread, cookies and of course, cake for Jim.&nbsp; Donna travelled with Jim to many state fairs to sell gooseneck trailers when Jim worked for Hillsboro Industries.&nbsp; They had a lake home in Bella Vista Arkansas while the girls were growing up allowing them to take short vacations away from the farm.&nbsp; Other favorite trips took them to Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Spain.&nbsp; Jim and Donna enjoyed collecting depression and other antique glassware.&nbsp; One of Donna's all-time favorite activities was to play pinochle for hours on end with her brothers and extended family.&nbsp;

Her loving family includes her children Claire (Ross) Meredith, Sue (Tim) Nyberg, and Pat (Bill) Waswick, all of Wichita; grandchildren Ashley Meredith, Ryan (Melisha) Meredith, Megan (Jeff) Kimmel, Paul Enns, Clayton, Adrienne, and Madison Chamberland; great grandchildren Lydia, Matthew, Judah, and Melody Meredith and Alec Kimmel; &nbsp;her brothers Bill (Mary) Miesse of Collierville, TN, J. B. ( Carol) Miesse of Marion; brother in law Dwight (Donna) Fruechting of Clarksville, TN and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Donna passed away on July 15, 2020 in Wichita.&nbsp; She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Marvin Miesse and sister Dorothy Varenhorst, granddaughter Carrie Meredith and many beloved brothers in law and sisters in law and cousins.&nbsp;

Fruechting on October 16, 1955 in Marion and they built a good life over 53 years of marriage.&nbsp; The couple lived in Washington DC briefly after being married while Jim completed his military service, then they moved to Marion where they resided on several farms, where they raised cattle and chickens.&nbsp; They moved to town after buying the hardware store and built two houses in Marion.She was a lifelong member of the Marion Christian Church and involved in all aspects of church including CWF president, program chair and treasurer.&nbsp; Donna guided the Worship and Scholarship committees for many years.&nbsp; She sang in the choir and served as choir director.&nbsp; Donna taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School regularly and served as the President of the Neo-Century Club for many years.&nbsp;Donna worked for Marion High School and Farmer's and Drover's Bank after high school.&nbsp; She loved accounting and worked for her sister Dorothy Varenhorst as the bookkeeper for Van's Clothing Store for many years.&nbsp; When Donna and Jim bought the Marion Hardware and Gift Store in 1975, she continued to manage the business accounting as well as buy china, crystal, and appliances for the store.&nbsp; Donna also loved giving microwave cooking classes.&nbsp;Donna's children, grandchildren, and extended family members were her favorite pastime, she was always interested in their current activities and accomplishments.&nbsp; Playing the piano, singing, reading, embroidery, crocheting and knitting were also her favorite with many baby afghans and pillowcases as treasured gift.&nbsp; Donna's favorite activity was to cook for her family, church dinners and bake on Saturday mornings.&nbsp; She made the best cinnamon rolls, bread, cookies and of course, cake for Jim.&nbsp; Donna travelled with Jim to many state fairs to sell gooseneck trailers when Jim worked for Hillsboro Industries.&nbsp; They had a lake home in Bella Vista Arkansas while the girls were growing up allowing them to take short vacations away from the farm.&nbsp; Other favorite trips took them to Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Spain.&nbsp; Jim and Donna enjoyed collecting depression and other antique glassware.&nbsp; One of Donna's all-time favorite activities was to play pinochle for hours on end with her brothers and extended family.&nbsp;Her loving family includes her children Claire (Ross) Meredith, Sue (Tim) Nyberg, and Pat (Bill) Waswick, all of Wichita; grandchildren Ashley Meredith, Ryan (Melisha) Meredith, Megan (Jeff) Kimmel, Paul Enns, Clayton, Adrienne, and Madison Chamberland; great grandchildren Lydia, Matthew, Judah, and Melody Meredith and Alec Kimmel; &nbsp;her brothers Bill (Mary) Miesse of Collierville, TN, J. B. Darlene Worcester, 89, of Americus, Kansas passed away July 15, 2020 at Flint Hills Care Center.&nbsp; She was born April 16, 1931, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Clark) Belt.&nbsp;

Darlene married Orville Worcester on June 4, 1950.&nbsp; They made their home in Americus, where they raised their family.&nbsp; Darlene was a member of Country Side Baptist Church and Americus Senior Citizens.&nbsp; She enjoyed gardening, canning and sewing.&nbsp; She loved her family and very much loved spending time with her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Orville, and 3 brothers: Richard, Kenneth and Glen Belt, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Raymond L. Woods, 76, of Manhattan, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS from complications the day after by-pass surgery. Ray was born on January 31, 1944 to Max and Dorothy (Ginbey) Woods in Garnett, KS. He was married to Muriel Noel on August 22, 1964. Ray graduated from Garnett High School and from Emporia State University where he earned a Masters in School Administration. Ray taught for three years in Cottonwood Falls, KS, followed by serving as an elementary principal in Onaga, KS, Holton, KS and Manhattan, KS —as principal at Ogden for 10 years followed by Marlatt where he finished his public school career. Ray loved working with the children and teachers. He always said that he had the very best job in Public Education. After retiring in 1998, he was a part-time instructor in the Education Department at KSU, where he enjoyed working with 1st and 2nd year Education majors. Ray’s hobbies were fishing, reading, gardening and traveling, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed following the sports activities of his three grandchildren and texting or FaceTiming when he couldn’t be with them in person. For the last eleven years Ray and Muriel spent the winter months at New Smyrna Beach, FL where they made good friendships with some very special people. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Julie Bissey and in-laws Loren and Alberta Noel. She graduated from Wichita North in 1938, and then attended W.U. and KSU. Edith served in the U.S. Army in the Women's Army Corps as a Laboratory Technician during World War II. On October 5,1946, she married Fred B Hadle and together they had two sons. She worked as a Biological Technician at Soil Conservation Service, USDA, for 17 years until retirement. Edith was a long-time member of the Ashland Community Church where she also served on the Church Board. Edith enjoyed being a member of the Ashland Ladies Aid Society, Ashland Fortnightly, FCE, NARFE, VFW Auxiliary, and the Blue Valley Rug Hookers Association. She received awards for her beautiful hooked rugs and enjoyed giving many of them to family and friends. She also found pleasure tending her lovely flower gardens. Edith is survived by her two sons Gary (Kathleen) Hadle, of Manhattan, KS; Stephen (Diana) Hadle, of Manhattan, KS; 13 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred Hadle, her brother William Mierau Jr., and one grandson Joshua Hadle. Bruce Quentin McFadden, age 82 formerly of Circleville, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2020 at the Onaga Community Hospital.

He was born on January 10, 1938 in Riley, the son of John Buel and Grace Mae (Baker) McFadden. He graduated from Keats High School.  He spent most of his life in Riley before moving to Oregon and then eventually back to Kansas.

Bruce worked in security at Prairie Band Casino.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, traveling the United States and doberman pinscher dogs.

He is survived by two brothers, Gerald McFadden of Nampa, Idaho and Byron McFadden (Carol) of Hillsboro; one brother-in-law, Larry Hinson of Holton and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John McFadden and Richard McFadden; one sister, Aloha Hinson and two sisters-in-law, Elisabeth McFadden and Marilyn McFadden.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2020 at the Riley Cemetery.

Kristopher L. Mock, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2020 at his home in Leonardville at the age of 44. He was born November 10, 1975 in Salina, Kansas the son of Steven Mock. He graduated from Chapman High School and received his bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Arizona. Kristopher worked at Wardcraft Homes Inc. after graduation until 2006. He also worked at Walmart for 10 years before moving on to Smithfield Foods Inc. as a mechanical machinist. He enjoyed playing Magic the Gathering, computer games, antique cars, and was an avid tinkerer. He married Suzanne Perry on April 6, 2010 in Manhattan. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his sister Jessica Gramlick of Omaha, Nebraska, step son Tyler Perry of Leonardville, nephew Jason Gramlick of Omaha, Nebraska, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Steve, grandmothers Pricilla Louise Henderson and Pricilla Hosie. Cremation is planned. He graduated from Chapman High School and received his bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Arizona. Kristopher worked at Wardcraft Homes Inc. after graduation until 2006. He also worked at Walmart for 10 years before moving on to Smithfield Foods Inc. as a mechanical machinist. He enjoyed playing Magic the Gathering, computer games, antique cars, and was an avid tinkerer. He married Suzanne Perry on April 6, 2010 in Manhattan. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his sister Jessica Gramlick of Omaha, Nebraska, step son Tyler Perry of Leonardville, nephew Jason Gramlick of Omaha, Nebraska, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Steve, grandmothers Pricilla Louise Henderson and Pricilla Hosie. Cremation is planned. Joe Blackman passed away July 9, 2020. We are pretty sure he is now riding his Harley Davidson of his Bi Ole White Mule, Crystal, the two things he missed doing during his illness. He was born in Pennsylvania and later moved to Arizona where he was the sole miner at the world’s richest amethyst mine in the four peaks wilderness. After digging for the stone, he backpacked it down the mountain seven miles on his back. He hitchhiked all over the United States making more friends and having more adventures. He rode to Sturgis on his own when he was seventy one years old. He was seventy six when he left us for another adventure. He was a fine man and a great character, and he will be greatly missed. He was a strong man and endured two heart breaks of his life – the death of his beloved son Little Joe, and his sister Susan. He leaves behind a loving family, wife Nicci of almost forty seven years, a son France (Tia), a daughter Brooke, two granddaughters, brother Greg (Sandy), sister Wendy (Jim) along with nieces and nephews. Mary Ann (Carlson) McAdams, 88, died July 10, 2020 at Medicalodge in Clay Center.&nbsp; She was born February 12, 1932 on the farm east of Morganville.&nbsp; The family moved to Morganville in 1936. &nbsp;Mary Ann grew up in Morganville where she attended school all 12 years. &nbsp;She also attended church, Sunday School, singing in the choir, participated in youth fellowship, taught Sunday School and Bible School classes in Morganville.&nbsp;

Veryl Leone Tiemeyer, daughter of George and Grace Damman, was born July 6, 1934, in Palmer, KS, and peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 9 at the Sheridan at Overland Park.

Veryl was born at home in Palmer, KS, and is one of 10 children. She graduated from Clifton High School and then married the love of her life Freddie Tiemeyer on Feb. 1, 1953. &nbsp;Veryl raised four children and was a loving, caring mother and grandmother. She was a congregant of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clay Center. Faith was important in Veryl’s life, inspiring her dedication to family and community. She was a member of the Clifton Art Buffs and supporter of her community, serving as a Clifton-Clyde Unified School District board member. &nbsp;Veryl received her B.S. in Psychology from Kansas State University at the age of 45 and went on to have a successful career in public administration, serving as executive director of March of Dimes, Salina Chapter, and was regional director of North Central Area Agency on Aging. Veryl was also a talented and accomplished artist winning several awards for her paintings. Her amazing impact and incredible love for her family and community is cherished and will be remembered.

Jacqueline Mae Motley, age 89, of Manhattan, died Wednesday July 8, 2020 at her home in Manhattan. She was born on July 22, 1930 in Manhattan, the daughter Evelyn Chudej and her adoptive parents Raymond and Florence (King) Phelps. She grew up in Manhattan and attended local schools. On December 27, 1947 in Manhattan, she was united in marriage to Ed Motley. He preceded her in death on October 6, 2008. Jackie worked at the Manhattan middle school as a food service worker for 10 years. She enjoyed working on puzzles and listening to Elvis. She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren as often as she could, Jackie was always ready for family gatherings and holidays when they were all together. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Vawter and her sister, Betty Reid. Jackie is survived by her children: Thomas Motley (Debbie), Janet Swander (Jay), Michael Motley (Terry), Robert Motley (Toni), and David Motley (Angie) all of Manhattan; also, her sister, Sherry Theis of Manhattan, and her 25 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and also her two special nieces, Angie and Chrystal and nephew Cecil Rush. David A. Rohla, 80, died July 8, 2020. He was born March 4, 1940, the son of Otto and Minnie (Wilton) Rohla in Oak, Nebraska. A. Ramona Johnston, age 91 of Manhattan, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House.

She was born on September 8, 1928 in Olsburg, the daughter of Hans and Agnes (Rasmussen) Vandahl.  She graduated from Cleburne High School and Kansas State University with a degree in education.

On May 28, 1978, she married Robert Edward Johnston.  He preceded her in death in 2011.

Ramona’s first year of teaching was at Springside in Pottawatomie County.  After that, she taught elementary school in Fostoria, St. George, Rossville, Leonardville and Blue Valley Randolph.  She was a member of the Mariadahl Lutheran Church, Olsburg Lutheran Church, Delta Kappa Gamma and Green Valley FCE.  She enjoyed taking pictures, planting flowers and working in her garden.

She is survived by one sister, Kathryn Nelson of Manhattan; five nieces and nephews, Mark Nelson, Kent Nelson (Liz), Kathy Mignano (Tom), Carolyn Mohr (Ken) and Marjean Newcomer and many great nieces, great nephews and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by parents; one brother, Elmer Vandahl and one sister, Helen Holt.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at the Mariadahl Cemetery in Olsburg with Rev. Keith Wiens officiating.  Respect calls may be made from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Doris Grew up in Herington KS but moved to Manhattan KS in 1955 and graduated Manhattan High School in 1957. She then moved to Washington DC after high school and was married to Arthur B. Fridinger, Jr. from 1960-1973. Later She married Edwin V. Nelmes on December 30, 1974 until his death February 1, 1993. Doris graduated from Phoenix University with a Bachelor of Science in 2000 at the age of 70. Early in her career, she worked t the National Bureau of Standards and was a dance instructor at the Fred Astaire Studio in Washington, D.C. She also worked for the National Transportation Safety Board of Dulles International Airport, Administrative Law Judges, NTSB and US Department of Commerce in D.C as an office manager. She met her husband Edwin Nelmes during her time at NTSB and they were married in December of 1974. She retired in 1990 after thirty-one years of government service. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Survivors include her sister Shirley J. Hyde-Luna of Garden City, step-children Ted and Ethel Nelmes, Pamela Merlin and Beverly Nelmes, niece Cindy Unger of Garden City, nephews James Lehr of Portland, ME and John Lehr of Junction City. She leaves numerous step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren and great nieces and great nephews. Her hobbies included singing semi-professionally in the D.C and Colorado areas. She loved classical music and dancing. She belonged to the Lions Clubs of Fairfax, Virginia; Boulder, Colorado; Conroe, Texas, Leawood, Kansas and Manhattan, Kansas. She was a very giving person and was proud of her work history and volunteering. There will be no service. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will occur at a later date in Pennsylvania where her husband is interred. The family suggests memorials to the Lions Club of Manhattan. Doris Nelmes 

Charley (Chuck) Elvin Abarr, age 89 of Manhattan, Kansas died July 8 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House. He had been a resident of Manhattan for 12 years. He was born on May 4, 1931 in Billings, Montana to parents, Joseph and Ester Abarr. He also grew up in Billings along with his siblings, Ellen and Joe. He attended Billings High School but completed his senior year at Miltonvale College in Miltonvale, Kansas. He enlisted in the Navy and was sworn in November 10, 1950. He was stationed in Alameda, California. He married Marjorie Faye Hudson of Billings on August 19, 1951 in Billings, Montana. They had three children, Debra Jean, Bobby Joe, and Randy Jay. He attended and graduated from Marion College in Marion, Indiana. He later attended the Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. He was in the restaurant business for over forty years. The highlight of his career was working for the McDonald's Corporation. He began at entry level and was promoted from store manager to regional supervisor to field consultant at the home office to International and ended his career as an owner-operator. He was a dedicated, hard-working, loyal, and honored employee and loved working and traveling for McDonald's. One of his proudest moments was being invited to attend and participate in the 1200th store opening in Southeast Asia. He retired from McDonald's Corporation approximately thirty years later. He loved retelling stories and reliving his experiences during those years. He enjoyed McDonald's double cheeseburgers well into his eighties. Chuck was a proud and loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He treasured being surrounded by his children, Debra Lamb(daughter) and husband Pat, Bob(son), and Randy(son), his grandchildren, Vance Lamb and wife Kate, Sean Lamb, Richard Abarr and wife Keli, Amy Abarr-Harris, and Aubrey Abarr-Brown and husband Matt, and his great grandchildren, Lucas, Parie, Breeonna, Wyatt, Raylee, Peyton, Tanner, and Tate. Dad was a sports enthusiast. His favorites were football, baseball, softball, bowling, and golf. He was a superior athlete that played many different sports. He was proudest of being selected to the All Navy Softball Team. He also had the special ability to coach anyone, from college golfers to Little League boys including his sons. He spent many joy filled hours at the Lake of the Ozarks teaching family and friends how to water ski. He owned Arabian horses for several years and enjoyed showing them competitively with his sons. He was a social person and loved telling stories and reminiscing. He would never turn down an invitation to lunch or dinner. He loved M&amp;M's, cashews, angel food cake, deviled eggs, and his own fried chicken &amp; gravy. The only thing he loved more was being involved with celebrations including his family. He was proud, supportive, loving, humble, lived simply, and shared everything he had. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ester Abarr, his sister, Ellen Waite, his former wife, Marjorie Eglin (1984), and sons, Bobby (2004) and Randy (2017). Cremation is planned with a private family service to be celebrated at a later date. Memorial contributions in memory of Charley are suggested to the Ronald McDonald House. Charley (Chuck) Elvin Abarr, age 89 of Manhattan, Kansas died July 8 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House. He had been a resident of Manhattan for 12 years. He was born on May 4, 1931 in Billings, Montana to parents, Joseph and Ester Abarr. He also grew up in Billings along with his siblings, Ellen and Joe. He attended Billings High School but completed his senior year at Miltonvale College in Miltonvale, Kansas. He enlisted in the Navy and was sworn in November 10, 1950. He was stationed in Alameda, California. He married Marjorie Faye Hudson of Billings on August 19, 1951 in Billings, Montana. They had three children, Debra Jean, Bobby Joe, and Randy Jay. He attended and graduated from Marion College in Marion, Indiana. He later attended the Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. He was in the restaurant business for over forty years. The highlight of his career was working for the McDonald's Corporation. He began at entry level and was promoted from store manager to regional supervisor to field consultant at the home office to International and ended his career as an owner-operator. He was a dedicated, hard-working, loyal, and honored employee and loved working and traveling for McDonald's. One of his proudest moments was being invited to attend and participate in the 1200th store opening in Southeast Asia. He retired from McDonald's Corporation approximately thirty years later. He loved retelling stories and reliving his experiences during those years. He enjoyed McDonald's double cheeseburgers well into his eighties. Chuck was a proud and loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He treasured being surrounded by his children, Debra Lamb(daughter) and husband Pat, Bob(son), and Randy(son), his grandchildren, Vance Lamb and wife Kate, Sean Lamb, Richard Abarr and wife Keli, Amy Abarr-Harris, and Aubrey Abarr-Brown and husband Matt, and his great grandchildren, Lucas, Parie, Breeonna, Wyatt, Raylee, Peyton, Tanner, and Tate. Dad was a sports enthusiast. His favorites were football, baseball, softball, bowling, and golf. He was a superior athlete that played many different sports. He was proudest of being selected to the All Navy Softball Team. He also had the special ability to coach anyone, from college golfers to Little League boys including his sons. He spent many joy filled hours at the Lake of the Ozarks teaching family and friends how to water ski. He owned Arabian horses for several years and enjoyed showing them competitively with his sons. He was a social person and loved telling stories and reminiscing. He would never turn down an invitation to lunch or dinner. He loved M&amp;M's, cashews, angel food cake, deviled eggs, and his own fried chicken &amp; gravy. The only thing he loved more was being involved with celebrations including his family. He was proud, supportive, loving, humble, lived simply, and shared everything he had. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ester Abarr, his sister, Ellen Waite, his former wife, Marjorie Eglin (1984), and sons, Bobby (2004) and Randy (2017). Cremation is planned with a private family service to be celebrated at a later date. Memorial contributions in memory of Charley are suggested to the Ronald McDonald House.
