Shane Matthew Lingenfelter, 44, of Manhattan, passed away Thursday, October 15th, in an accident on Interstate 70.&nbsp; He worked with the wonderful family of Hy-Tech Interiors and Remolding in Manhattan. Shane was born in Indianapolis, IN on January 7, 1976, the son of Robert Jay and Donna Jean (Derringer) Lingenfelter, of Clarksville, TN. &nbsp; He was united in marriage to Rachel Dawn (Hanson) Lingenfelter on Aug. 20, 2005, at the Tuttle Creek Reservoir. &nbsp; Shane graduated from the University of Phoenix in Business Management; he and Rachel attended the Westview Community Church in Manhattan. Shane is survived by his wife, Rachel, of the home; 3 daughters: Skylar, Sydney, and Sierra Lingenfelter also of the home.&nbsp; Also surviving are two sisters, Renee Lingenfelter of Clarksville, TN; &nbsp;Katina Jordan, of Aurora, CO; &nbsp;two brothers, Robert, of Clarksville, TN; &nbsp;and Cody (Katherine) of Ft. Wallace Dean Ingmire of Council Grove, Kansas, finished the race and won his eternal prize on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the age of 89 years and six months.

Wally was born April 6, 1931, to Howard and Gladys Edwards Ingmire in a farmhouse near White City, Kansas. Growing up on a farm in Kansas in the 1930’s was an adventure for Wally, his two older brothers, and one younger sister. The family moved to Council Grove when he was in the eighth grade. He participated in sports – primarily football and basketball – during his high school years and went on to play football for one season at the College of Emporia.

t was because of his involvement in sports that he caught the eye of a young lady. When Wally was a sophomore in high school, he was nominated for Homecoming king. The sophomore girl nominated for Homecoming queen was Norma Jean Knackstedt. As sophomores, they were voted as Homecoming King and Queen. That began a relationship that led to their dating and eventually marriage. Wallace and Norma were married on March 5, 1950, and celebrated 63 years of marriage before her passing in 2013. They were proud parents to four children – Douglas, Randall, Mark, and Lori. These four children and their spouses blessed them with twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

The Church and their relationship with Jesus Christ were always important to Wally and Norma. Both grew up going to church, but it was shortly after their marriage during a revival meeting held at the Council Grove Christian Church that he made the decision to be baptized by immersion and give his life completely to God. Their lives always displayed that faith commitment whether it was doing physical labor on the church buildings or doing spiritual labor in Sunday school classes, Bible studies, and prayer groups. Wally also served as an elder in the church for many years. Their lives together influenced hundreds of individuals for Christ as they expressed kindness, encouragement, care, and service both in the church and in the community they loved.

In 1969, Wally opened Ingmire Plumbing, Heating, and Appliance. The growing up years on the farm and his commitment to Christ influenced how he operated the business. His customers were treated with fairness and compassion, and he always went the 2nd and 3rd mile to help them with their needs. Many family dinners were interrupted with a phone call from someone whose furnace or air conditioner had quit. He never threw anything out because he never knew when he might need the part or the “thing-a-ma-jig.” After 50-plus years of owning his own business on Main Street in Council Grove, Wally closed up shop in 2019.

An article in a 2010 church newsletter about Wally and Norma stated, “His interests/hobbies include his work and keeping Norma happy.” More could be told about Wally’s actions and involvement in people’s lives, but his sister, Shirley, summed it best with the statement, “He is the nicest man I’ve ever known.”

The family is establishing a scholarship fund in his memory for Council Grove High School students who are planning to enroll in an area vocational/technical college. Memorial gifts may be designated to Wallace Ingmire Technical Education Scholarship or to Gideon’s International.

Face masks and social distancing will be required at all services. He will Lie in State for public viewing from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, at Sawyer Funeral Chapel. A Private Family Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23, at Community Christian Church. That will be followed by a Graveside Service at 11:00 a.m. that will be open to the public.

Linda Susan Stewart, 73, died on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at St 
Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born on February 27, 1947 at
 Garden City the daughter of Charles &amp; Norma F. (Snyder) Olomon, Jr. 
Linda graduated from Garden City High School and attended Kansas State 
University. After raising her family she returned to KSU and graduated 
with her degree in Finance. While at KSU she was the house mother at a 
Sorority . She worked in Junction City for 23 years at Central National 
Bank as a stock broker. She recently returned to Garden City. She 
was a member of the first Christian Church of Garden City, Rainbow Girls
 and the Order of Eastern Star. In her earlier years she participated 
in 4-H and later served as a 4-H Leader. She enjoyed sewing and 
quilting and attending craft shows along with being involved with her 
Grandchildren. 
She is survived by her Son- Matthew S. Regehr of Panhandle, Texas, 
Daughter- Marcy S. Peterson of Holcomb, Brother- Pat Olomon of Missoula,
 Montana, 7 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren. 
The family will host a private reception with burial at Valley View 
Cemetery in Garden City. Memorials are suggested to Friends of Lee 
Richardson Zoo or KSU- General Scholarship Fund in care of Garnand

SGT (Retired) Kevin D. Myers, 62, of Herington, KS, formerly of Junction City, KS, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2020 at his home in Herington, KS. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given in Kevin's name to is wife Sarah Myers. Kevin was born July 4, 1958, in Kelly, KY, the son of Hugh and Ruby (Spurlin) Myers. Kevin served in the United States Army having retired in 1995. After his retirement, he worked as a security guard. He was also active as the safety officer for the Civil Air Patrol. He married Sarah Day on September 21, 2012 in Ogden, KS. Those individuals that are left to mourn his loss is his loving wife Sarah of the home in Herington, KS; two sons, Kevin Dale "Dale" Myers, Jr. of St. Alma, VT and David E. Myers of Winfield, KS; two brothers, Michael Myers and Neil Myers both of Hopkinsville, KY; two sisers, Teresa Goodacre of Hopkinsville, KY and Susie Ellis of Memphis, TN and seven grandchildren. Richard Silva, age 88, died on Monday October 19, 2020 at his residence in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born on February 14, 1932 in Manhattan, KS the son of Julian &amp; Maria (Perez) Silva, Sr. He was a carpenter for many years until his retirement. He was proud of his work on numerous local projects in the Manhattan area: McCain auditorium, various Fraternity and student housing buildings at K State, Manhattan’s first high rise building near the Post Office, St Luke’s Church on sunset, numerous wheel chair ramps in the town the first of which was built at the Riley County Courthouse following the ADA legislation. On April 21, 1956 Richard was united in marriage to Genita Vogl in Wamego, Kansas. This union was blessed with 3 children: Michael, Janet and Jeffery. Richard enjoyed life best playing 8 ball or 9 ball pool anytime, anywhere. At one time he was considered one of the best pool players in Kansas. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He liked Manhattan so much that he never needed to travel as he was content to just stay home. Richard always enjoyed dancing with Genita at the VFW or American Legion. Later in life he loved tinkering in the garage where he often repaired bikes and toys to give out to neighborhood children and his grandchildren. It seemed he could fix anything in his shop. Almost every day he could be seen sitting in his chair in the garage always saying hi to his neighbors and would strike up a conversation with everyone walking by. Before getting too ill, he would spend time from 4-6 a.m. in the Quick Stop at 5th and Ft Riley Boulevard where he mostly greeted Soldiers getting coffee on their way to Ft Riley and construction workers preparing to start their day. He always had something to say to everyone. Richard was preceded in death by his parents Julian and Maria; his son Jeffery; brothers John and Julian Silva and sisters: Sara Guillen and Mary Dejac Sandoval. Survivors include his wife: Genita of the home; son: Michael J. Silva of Olathe, Kansas; daughter: Janet Silva of Manhattan; 8 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters: Rita Silva of Cimarron, CO and Rose Silva-Broderick of Las Vegas along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Devens, MA the daughter of George T. and Shirley (Weeden) Lyles, Jr. Theresa was baptized on July 13, 2008, by the Reverend Dr. Leonard F. Gray and was an active member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church. Theresa graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1989. She also graduated from the Manhattan Area Technical College.&nbsp; She worked twelve years at the Alco Department Store and was a twenty two year employee at Geary Community Hospital. Theresa was also a member of the Eastern Star in Manhattan, KS. Those left to mourn the loss and cherish her memories are her husband Redo Purnell, Sr. of Junction City, KS; one daughter, Janika S. Michelle Lee McLean, 46, of Junction City KS passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Geary Community Hospital in Junction City. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2020, at the Milford Cemetery with Pastor Brian Mills officiating. Following the graveside service, the family will receive friends from 12 - 2 at the Elks Lodge in Junction City. Michelle will lie in state 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2020, at the Johnson Funeral Home, 203 N. Washington Street in Junction City. She attended Fort Hays State and later Kansas State University. Michelle most recently worked for Corvias on Ft Riley, KS for 13 years before joining Walters Morgan Construction Inc in October of 2019 where she worked until her passing. Michelle was a member of the Elks Lodge #1037 in Junction City and Sawyer United Methodist Church in Sawyer, KS. Michelle was an avid gardener, cook, quilter and all manner of crafting hobbies. She enjoyed computer games, Final Fantasy, Star Wars and Mulan. She loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and the Kansas State Wildcats. On March 17, 2014, Michelle was blessed with the greatest gift, Allie Marie, 6, who survives of the home. Other survivors include her mother, Anita McLean and her sister Mica Soames and brother-in-law, Daniel Soames She was preceded in death by her father, Byron McLean. Michelle was known to volunteer her time and skills to help numerous different causes. She was blessed with a giving heart and compassion for all manner of people and animals. She surrounded herself with amazing friends, who she often referred to as family and is fondly remembered by all the lives that she touched.

Michelle Lee McLean, 46, of Junction City KS passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Geary Community Hospital in Junction City. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2020, at the Milford Cemetery with Pastor Brian Mills officiating. Following the graveside service, the family will receive friends from 12 - 2 at the Elks Lodge in Junction City. Michelle will lie in state 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2020, at the Johnson Funeral Home, 203 N. Washington Street in Junction City. The family will not be present at the funeral home to receive friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Allie McLean Education Fund c/o Intrust Bank 121 N. Michelle was born February 15, 1974, in Hutchinson, KS, the eldest daughter of Byron Lee and Anita (Novotny) McLean. Michelle graduated from Junction City Senior High with the class of 1992. She attended Fort Hays State and later Kansas State University. Michelle most recently worked for Corvias on Ft Riley, KS for 13 years before joining Walters Morgan Construction Inc in October of 2019 where she worked until her passing. Michelle was a member of the Elks Lodge #1037 in Junction City and Sawyer United Methodist Church in Sawyer, KS. Michelle was an avid gardener, cook, quilter and all manner of crafting hobbies. She enjoyed computer games, Final Fantasy, Star Wars and Mulan. She loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and the Kansas State Wildcats. On March 17, 2014, Michelle was blessed with the greatest gift, Allie Marie, 6, who survives of the home. Other survivors include her mother, Anita McLean and her sister Mica Soames and brother-in-law, Daniel Soames She was preceded in death by her father, Byron McLean. Michelle was known to volunteer her time and skills to help numerous different causes. She was blessed with a giving heart and compassion for all manner of people and animals. She surrounded herself with amazing friends, who she often referred to as family and is fondly remembered by all the lives that she touched. Virginia I. Quigley, 98, Hays, died Sunday, October 18, 2020 at Medicalodges Great Bend.

She was born July 26, 1922 in 
Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Harrison and Elizabeth (Richards) 
Reed.&nbsp; She graduated from Manhattan High School in 1940 and attended 
Kansas State University.&nbsp; On June 15, 1941 she was united in marriage to
 Clarence “Al” Quigley, Sr. in Manhattan, and they celebrated 53 years 
of marriage before he preceded her in death on August 11, 1994.&nbsp; She was
 an American Red Cross volunteer at the Fort Riley Hospital, a hospital 
nurse’s aide in Great Bend, sales clerk in the men’s department of 
MacDonald’s Department Store in Hays, and served in the Foster 
Grandparent Program.&nbsp; Virginia was an active member of the First United 
Methodist Church of Hays, volunteering with the Peddler’s Fair and the 
gatherings on Wednesdays.&nbsp; She enjoyed camping, going to Steam Shows, 
and hosting Mardi Gras parties.&nbsp; Her loves were faith, family, and 
football and she showed these loves as a Green Bay Packers and K-State 
fan, painting wood projects Al made, and doing many craft projects with 
her grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons:&nbsp; Mark 
Quigley and wife Becky and Chris Quigley and wife Tina, all of Hays, a 
daughter:&nbsp; Mary Sloan and husband Larry of Albert, two 
daughters-in-law:&nbsp; Linda Quigley of Derby and Kathy Quigley of 
Manhattan, 11 grandchildren:&nbsp; Sherry Johnson, Jill Quigley, Danielle 
Miller, Jacob Sloan, Jessie Sloan, Jodie Sloan, Chad Quigley, Amber 
Delcamp, Dylan Quigley, Christina DelloRusso, and Megan Stecklein, 18 
great grandchildren:&nbsp; Benjamin, Olivia, Elijah, Sara, Montana, Wyatt,

Mrs. Crable passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at the Salina Regional Health Center. She was born September 21, 1951 in Marysville, Missouri the daughter of Charles and Maxine (Tompkins) Sexson. On April 13, 1974 Debbie was united in marriage to James “Jim” Crable in Kansas City, Kansas. She worked in the Alco-Duckwall office doing data entry and later was an assistant toy buyer before retiring in 2013. Debbie loved fishing but greatest joy was her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survives be her loving husband Jim of the home, daughters Jeri and her husband Kristopher Sager of Salina, Shelly Cole of Abilene, sons Brett Selle and his wife Cassie of Winfield, Walter Crable and his wife Christa of Abilene, brothers Fred Sexson of Wichita, Lavelle of Louisiana, sister June Price of Great Bend, ten grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Thomas “Wyatt” Balman, age 20, died on Tuesday October 13, 2020, at the Wamego City Hospital, Wamego, Kansas. He was born on July 7, 2000, in Houston, Texas, the son of John and Seana (Barnhill) Balman. Wyatt was currently a junior at Soka University of America in Aliso Viejo, California. Wyatt loved swimming and coaching. He fell in love with California, for the beach, the mountains, and the people. He was a Scholar All America Collegiate Athlete, with dreams of attending medical school, followed by training as an Obstetrical/Gynecological surgeon, and then serving with Doctors without Borders. He was driven to learn about the history of the politics and socio-economic conditions of people suffering injustices. Wyatt felt blessed with opportunities to learn about cultures and traditions different from his own, which is why he chose to go to Soka University of America in Aliso Viejo, California. He would awaken before swim practice nearly every morning, and he surfed. He would always share great stories about his swim team, and about working with the Athletic Department. He was so grateful for his amazing coaches. He missed being at SUA during the pandemic, but still loved zooming and facetime with his friends, teachers, and team. Wyatt was a gifted pianist and finger-style guitar player. He loved singing and performing, and everyone loved hearing him whether at church or in a band. He could often be heard throughout the family home testing his perfect pitch against the piano. His faith was an essential part of his life. He never hesitated when asked to lend a helping hand. Learning about the peaceful charity in other faiths enriched his spiritual journey immensely. He had a great passion for coaching the youth of the community. Having researched the dire need for swim instructors nationwide for kids with autism, he was inspired to be a swim coach for the Special Olympics. Wyatt had humility and empathy that enabled him to open his heart to others. His immeasurable compassion allowed him to be an ear for friends from all over the world from Ghana to Nepal, and all around the Pacific Rim. His death is a tragic loss. It is rare for someone to have touched so many, so deeply, with a smile. But Wyatt is that someone. He is loved and missed by many. We will always be proud of the man he chose to be. Carol Sue Dutton, age 79, of Manhattan, passed away on October 15, 2020, at Stoneybrook Assisted Living in Manhattan. She was born January 17, 1941, in Marion, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest and Dola (Blankley) Meierhoff. She had lived in Syracuse, Kansas, from 1963 to 1979, and then moved to Manhattan. Carol graduated from high school in Marion, Kansas, and then attended Beauty School. She was married to Darrell Dutton on February 14, 1960, at the United Methodist Church in Marion, Kansas. Carol was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and loved to take care of her family. She had also drove a school bus in Syracuse and Manhattan and was an Avon representative. She was a member of the College Avenue United Methodist Church. She volunteered with the Welcome Wagon and the Riley County Seniors’ Service Center. She was also a member of the Quilt Guild and loved to play bridge. Survivors include her three children: Kevin and Terry Dutton of Manhattan, and Tanya Dutton of Olathe, KS; and one grandson Tanner Dutton and his wife Tate of Merriam, KS. Carol was preceded in death by her husband Darrell on January 28, 2006; and by her two siblings: Larry Meierhoff and Marilyn Hageberg. Bernice Catherine Murray,&nbsp;103, of Blaine, Kansas, died Friday, October 16, 2020, at Wellsprings of Westmoreland. &nbsp;She was a life-long member of the community.

Bernice was born on November 13, 1916, in rural Blaine, Kansas, the daughter of John Francis and Mary Ellen Lynch Donnelly. &nbsp;She attended local schools and graduated in 1934 from Wheaton High School.

Bernice attended Normal School and taught for two years at Reves School in rural Pottawatomie County. She also worked as an elevator operator at the National Reserve Life Insurance Company and then during WWII she worked for the North American Aviation Plant. &nbsp;She was a “Rosie the Riveter.”&nbsp;

Bernice married Edmond R. Murray on May 28, 1943. &nbsp;Bernice and Edmond moved back to Blaine in 1951 to work on the farm. &nbsp; He preceded her in death on December 30, 1995. &nbsp;

Bernice was a farmwife and an active part of the farming operation. &nbsp;She milked the cows and fed the pigs as well as all the other duties of raising her family and running her home. &nbsp;Bernice was a member of St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church.

Bernice is survived by her four sons; Ed Murray (Janice), Sugarland, Texas, Steve Murray (Darlene), Alma, Bob Murray (Kathy), Onaga, &nbsp;and Tim Murray (Lori), Wheaton; her ten grandchildren, Kim Dey (Jim), Shannon Peters (Rob), Michael Murray (Liz), Scott Murray, Todd Murray (Bobbi), Mitch Murray (Toni), Kara Murray, JD Murray (Dana), Stephanie Murray (Cliff), and Tyler Murray; her fourteen great-grandchildren, Cole, Matthew, and Ashley Dey, Charlie and Grant Peters, Amelia and Miles Murray, Reed, Rhett, and Rylen Murray, Cutter Murray, Allie Blume, and Karlee and Kylie Murray. &nbsp;Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edward Donnelly; and a grandson, Beau Patrick Murray.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 23, 2020, at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church in Blaine. &nbsp;Burial will follow at Mt. Murray on May 28, 1943. &nbsp;Bernice and Edmond moved back to Blaine in 1951 to work on the farm. &nbsp; He preceded her in death on December 30, 1995. &nbsp;Bernice was a farmwife and an active part of the farming operation. &nbsp;She milked the cows and fed the pigs as well as all the other duties of raising her family and running her home. &nbsp;Bernice was a member of St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church.Bernice is survived by her four sons; Ed Murray (Janice), Sugarland, Texas, Steve Murray (Darlene), Alma, Bob Murray (Kathy), Onaga, &nbsp;and Tim Murray (Lori), Wheaton; her ten grandchildren, Kim Dey (Jim), Shannon Peters (Rob), Michael Murray (Liz), Scott Murray, Todd Murray (Bobbi), Mitch Murray (Toni), Kara Murray, JD Murray (Dana), Stephanie Murray (Cliff), and Tyler Murray; her fourteen great-grandchildren, Cole, Matthew, and Ashley Dey, Charlie and Grant Peters, Amelia and Miles Murray, Reed, Rhett, and Rylen Murray, Cutter Murray, Allie Blume, and Karlee and Kylie Murray. &nbsp;Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edward Donnelly; and a grandson, Beau Patrick Murray.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 23, 2020, at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church in Blaine. &nbsp;Burial will follow at Mt. Bernice Catherine Murray

Wilferd’s life began on Marcy 27, 1932, the son of Jacob Edgar and Marie (Wiebe) Thiessen in Newton, Kansas. He graduated from Berean Academy in 1950 and went onto graduate from Grace Bible College in Omaha, Nebraska. He married Gladys Evelyn Kracht on June 15, 1954 in Creighton, Nebraska. Wilferd and Gladys ministered all across Latin America from 1964-2010. He also taught at Rio Grande Institute in Texas for 10 years. He was an evangelistic chalk artist and used his talent to share the gospel. He enjoyed riding horses, playing the piano and wood carving.

His loving family includes his wife, Gladys of Whitewater; his sons and their wives, Randy and Connie Thiessen of Whitewater, Gary and Monica Thiessen of Burns, Kansas; daughter and her husband, LaVonna and Dr. Greg Schmid of Phoenix, Arizona; 18 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry and Edgar Thiessen and a sister, Martha Thiessen. Wilferd passed away peacefully on Friday, October 16, 2020 at the age of 88 years old.

His family will gather with friends on Friday, October 23, from 5-7 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 24, at 11:00 a.m. both at Whitewater Community Church, 703 E. Central, Whitewater. Graveside services will be Saturday, October 24, at 9:30 a.m. in the Old Emmaus Cemetery.

Wilferd Ralph Thiessen - March 27, 1932-October 16, 2020 (age 88)

Chieko Jeffries-MacDonald, age 72, passed away on October 1, 2020.  She was born August 10, 1948 in Okinawa, Japan to Keisei and Kiyo Shimoji. She married her friend and love, Paul Marshall MacDonald, in October of 1999 who preceded her in death in 2016. Chieko loved to garden, walk and most of all, cook. Chieko is survived by her mother Kiyo Shimoji, Sister and husband Kyoko and Yoichi Miyakawa, son and wife Bill and Kerrie Jeffries, daughter and husband Sunni and Jerry So, grandchildren Kiera, Anthony, Samuel and Kellen.

LaVern Sophie Pageler, 91, of Wamego, Kansas passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2020 at the Vintage Park Assisted Living Center in Wamego.

On July 5, 1929, LaVern, was born to August and Hattie (Soelter) Pageler in rural Wabaunsee County, Kansas.&nbsp; She attended Wamego High School and was united in marriage with Emil Pageler on January 24, 1951 at the Wells Creek Church north of Belvue, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on January 9, 1989.

LaVern had a big heart and loved caring for people.&nbsp; She worked as a caregiver from home for several years before retiring from the Valley Vista Good Samaritan Society after 17 years of service.&nbsp; She enjoyed her large vegetable garden and canning produce, as well as lengthy phone conversations with her friends and family.&nbsp; LaVern was a member of the Bible Baptist Church and then the New Life Baptist Church in Wamego.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Eckstein, Wamego, KS; three grandchildren, Brian Eckstein (Melissa), Nathen Eckstein (Sarah), and Sara Pullin (Chad); and five great-grandchildren, Mavis, Reese, Ian, Evan and Aiden.

She is also preceded in death by her parents, and both siblings, Raymond Pageler and Lena Pageler.

Maxine J. Eichem, 85, Louisville, Kansas passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at the Valley Vista Good Samaritan Society in Wamego, Kansas.

She was born December 10, 1934 on her family’s farm west of Wamego, the daughter of Theodore H. and Margaret (Brockish) Straub. She attended Rural Elementary School District 82 and graduated from Wamego High School in 1952. Following her graduation, Maxine married Lester William Eichem on June 18, 1952 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church of Wamego. Lester preceded Maxine in death on May 12, 2018.

Maxine was homemaker and also worked for many people inside and outside of their homes until her retirement in 2007. She enjoyed doing crafts, card parties, sewing, participating in local parades, especially the annual 4th&nbsp;of July and Christmas parades. She volunteered as a group leader for the Sante Fe Trail youth trips several times. She had a very strong work ethic and wasn’t afraid to take on any job.

Maxine is survived by two daughters: Vickie Ritchie of McFarland, KS, Martie Baker of Wamego, KS; one sister, Rita Muckenthaler, St. Marys, KS; eight grandchildren, Chuck, Rennee, Michael, Mathew, Joceline, Robbyn, Billy Joe, Trish; 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Wendy and Ted Eichem, two son-in-laws, Charlie Ritchie and Kevin Baker; two brothers, Joseph and Dale Straub; and two sisters, Theola Bearman and Pauline Ellis

 She was born in County Kerry, Ireland, daughter of Jeremiah and Deborah Roche, raised in Ireland as one of eleven children, until she moved to England in 1949 where she met and married her husband, William E Rager on January 22, 1953.&nbsp;

She moved to Abilene, KS in 1955 and raised three sons, Bill, Mike, and Randy then moved to Albuquerque, NM in 2005. 

Joan was preceded in death by her husband killed in action in Vietnam March 10, 1967; 7 sisters Nora, Debbie, Bridie, Madgie, Eileen, Kathleen, Maureen; 3 brothers Mike, Jerry, Tom; and Don Maring a very close friend of Abilene.

 Survivors include Bill Rager of Albuquerque, NM, Mike Rager of Albuquerque, NM, Randy Rager of Norwood, MN, eight grandchildren, Jessica, Melissa, Billie Jo, Tracy, Mike, Karl, Stacia, Steph, and eight great grandchildren, Sasha, Ginger, Katrina, Cara, William, Bryton, Kayden, and Broc.

On the evening of October 9, 2020, Skyler Havens, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away at the age of 19. He was born to Morgan Sutton and Brian Havens on September 14, 2001. He graduated from Manhattan High School in 2020. He loved to work on cars, he was very compassionate and loved to make others laugh. He had a huge passion for shoes and clothes. His smile could light up a room. Skyler was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Carolyn Sutton. Sandra Kay Rathke, 47, of Council Grove, Kansas passed away October 12, 2020 at Stormont Vail Hospital.

She was born April 26, 1973 to Carlyle and Cheryl (Krysl) Crawford in Galveston, Texas. She married Scott Rathke in 2015 at Olpe, KS.&nbsp; Sandie attended Flint Hill’s Apostolic Church and was the Bakery Manager for Ray’s Apple Market.&nbsp; She loved cooking, baking, fishing and motor cycle riding. Sandie was a people person and loved by all.

She was preceded in death by her step-brother Curtis Stubbs, step-daughter Kayla Rathke and grandson Charles.

Paul R. Hettenbach completed his earthly journey on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at his family home in Abilene, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Joann (Holt), three children and five grandchildren.&nbsp; Andra Dunn and her children Sean Hettenbach and Kasey Dunn of Watagua, TX.&nbsp; Stacia (Tyler) Brown and their son, Liam of Frisco, TX. David (Alison) Hettenbach, their two sons, Elijah and Harrison of Westfield, IN. He is also survived by his four siblings: Susie (John) Kummer of Chapman, Bruce (Judy) Hettenbach of Abilene, Mary (Robert) Taylor of Abilene, and Karen (Dave) Crouch of Emporia; 6 nieces and 3 nephews. Paul attended schools in his hometown and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1970. He was looking forward to seeing many of his classmates at his 50th year class reunion that was postponed due to the pandemic. He played many sports throughout his school years, but basketball and football held a major place in his memory. He was selected all NCKL guard his junior year. As student council president his senior year, he found himself working closely with administrators and teachers, never dreaming that he would be again meeting and planning with many of them due to his 24 year service on the Abilene USD 435 School Board. Following high school, he attended Kansas State University, receiving his BS in Business Administration in 1974. He enjoyed telling people that he worked as house boy at West Hall girl’s dormitory where he had a small apartment with responsibility of keeping a certain amount of order and locking doors at night. There were two major perks. First, he never ate alone as there were always tables of girls he could join at the Derby Food Service. As great as that was, he considered having his own reserved parking spot on campus to be the biggest reward. In 1974, he married Joann and they moved to Dodge City, Kansas where he worked as parts manager for Foley Tractor. After two and a half years of wind and dust and wind, they returned to Abilene where Paul went into business with his father as part owner/operator of Hettenbach Construction Company. When his father retired, he assumed full ownership and continued building terraces, waterways, ponds, dams, road approach grading, digging holes in the ground, leveling foundation sites, and maybe his favorite task of crunching up old buildings to be cleared away. There was really nothing he liked better than climbing into a Caterpillar bulldozer or excavator and wreaking havoc and then smoothing it all out to complete a project. He was on a job site when he succumbed to a cancer related infection that landed him back at KU Med Center for three weeks. He came back home with the full intent of finishing up a terracing project for a local farmer only to find himself back at KUMC for another week. He returned home to Hospice care and died two weeks later. Paul was a man of faith and a life-long member of the Abilene First United Church, where he served on nearly all committees, some, multiple times. The one thing he never joined was the choir (for good reason). He was a member of the Kansas Land Improvement Contractors Association for over 50 years where he held every office and continued on as treasurer for several years until his death. He received the Contractor of the Year Award in 1991 and was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work and service to the organization in 2019. Nothing made him happier than to bring a new member into the group he cared so much about. He was a member of Abilene’s Early Morning Breakfast Group that met at a number of restaurants around town, if the restaurant opened early enough. In case you wonder, these are the men who have all the answers to whatever problem is facing the city, and sometimes may actually solve one. He was a board member for Abilene &amp; Smoky Valley Railroad and supported the Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo. He contributed nearly 18 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. Paul was a man of many friends; he loved telling jokes and laughed wholeheartedly; he fixed broken things; he knew every road in Dickinson County and many surrounding areas; he was a social person who never forgot a name or face; he was known by many children as the ‘high-five’ guy; Paul loved the community’s children and followed with great interest their accomplishments from their early years through high school and beyond; he avidly followed high school sports and rarely missed home games; he knew the kids of Abilene and reveled in their academic accomplishments. He was a member of a scholarship committee and would bring home stacks of applications. He read hundreds of essays from beginning to end and followed the success of many young students. He loved Kansas State Football and was a season ticket holder for 24 years. He loved tailgating and roamed the parking lot talking to fellow fans. His greatest pride was his grandchildren and the feeling was mutual. He loved roughhousing and floor play. They begged for tickles and somersaults and being lifted over his head. Their love was full of giggles and screams and laughter. But their favorite activity was when he took them to the machines and he taught them to move the excavator and dig up dirt piles. They would ride in the bulldozer and dump truck and ask for more. They just wanted to be with him, and life was good for all of them. Paul was a man of hard work who took pride in moving and shaping the earth. He was strong with great physical strength. He survived colon cancer and returned to work; he survived esophageal cancer with all its after effects and returned to work; he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, took treatments alternate weeks and returned to work. Work was the thing that kept him alive and happy. He endured so much during these various battles and rarely complained. Paul was a helper. When there was a snow storm coming, he would be out in the dark getting the equipment ready for the following day, and up before dawn to clear parking lots and driveways. When the Chapman tornado hit late in the evening, he got the call at 11:30 p.m. to haul a machine over to help clear streets and find residents. If there was an ice storm that caused a power outage, he loaded up the generator and was out to heat up homes for sick and elderly residents. He wasn’t afraid to dig in and push forward to help others. He was a man of the community and we don’t even yet know the many things we will miss because he is no longer with us. So pay attention to the thunder because it might be Paul pushing and shoving the clouds around. Due to the pandemic, the family will plan a Celebration of Life service at a later date. Paul R. Hettenbach completed his earthly journey on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at his family home in Abilene, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Joann (Holt), three children and five grandchildren.&nbsp; Andra Dunn and her children Sean Hettenbach and Kasey Dunn of Watagua, TX.&nbsp; Stacia (Tyler) Brown and their son, Liam of Frisco, TX. David (Alison) Hettenbach, their two sons, Elijah and Harrison of Westfield, IN. He is also survived by his four siblings: Susie (John) Kummer of Chapman, Bruce (Judy) Hettenbach of Abilene, Mary (Robert) Taylor of Abilene, and Karen (Dave) Crouch of Emporia; 6 nieces and 3 nephews. Paul attended schools in his hometown and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1970. He was looking forward to seeing many of his classmates at his 50th year class reunion that was postponed due to the pandemic. He played many sports throughout his school years, but basketball and football held a major place in his memory. He was selected all NCKL guard his junior year. As student council president his senior year, he found himself working closely with administrators and teachers, never dreaming that he would be again meeting and planning with many of them due to his 24 year service on the Abilene USD 435 School Board. Following high school, he attended Kansas State University, receiving his BS in Business Administration in 1974. He enjoyed telling people that he worked as house boy at West Hall girl’s dormitory where he had a small apartment with responsibility of keeping a certain amount of order and locking doors at night. There were two major perks. First, he never ate alone as there were always tables of girls he could join at the Derby Food Service. As great as that was, he considered having his own reserved parking spot on campus to be the biggest reward. In 1974, he married Joann and they moved to Dodge City, Kansas where he worked as parts manager for Foley Tractor. After two and a half years of wind and dust and wind, they returned to Abilene where Paul went into business with his father as part owner/operator of Hettenbach Construction Company. When his father retired, he assumed full ownership and continued building terraces, waterways, ponds, dams, road approach grading, digging holes in the ground, leveling foundation sites, and maybe his favorite task of crunching up old buildings to be cleared away. There was really nothing he liked better than climbing into a Caterpillar bulldozer or excavator and wreaking havoc and then smoothing it all out to complete a project. He was on a job site when he succumbed to a cancer related infection that landed him back at KU Med Center for three weeks. He came back home with the full intent of finishing up a terracing project for a local farmer only to find himself back at KUMC for another week. He returned home to Hospice care and died two weeks later. Paul was a man of faith and a life-long member of the Abilene First United Church, where he served on nearly all committees, some, multiple times. The one thing he never joined was the choir (for good reason). Georgia Sorensen, 77, died October 10, 2020 after suffering for over four years with the neurological disease PLS, a variant of ALS. Throughout that trying time, she never complained about her illness. Georgia was born May 28, 1943 to Matt and Tess Gold in Denver, CO. She grew up in her beautiful Boulder, CO, a fact for which she was particularly proud. It was there she met her husband Chris while he was in graduate school, and they were married November 15, 1975. They moved to Manhattan in August of 1977 when Chris accepted a faculty position in the Department of Physics at KSU. In 1986 they had a daughter Hali Paige. Georgia was an engaging, beautiful woman of exceptionally good taste and style. She worked for a while in apparel retail and as an interior designer, but it is with her eponymous boutique “Georgia”, that she satisfied her urge to bring women’s high fashion to Manhattan. First on South Fourth Street and then in the heart of Aggieville, “Georgia” was in business for over 11 years. Georgia loved animals. She loved to go to the zoo and to county and state fairs where she talked to, and when she could, petted all the different animals. Through the years of their marriage, Georgia and Chris gave a home to 11 dogs and three cats. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, a stillborn son, and two stillborn grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Chris, her daughter Hali and son-in-law Nick Love of St. Petersburg, FL, and two step-grandchildren, Nickle and Storme. She is also survived by her brothers Joseph Gold of Las Vegas, NV, and Stephen Gold of San Jose, Costa Rica, and her sister Cecile Talarico of Scottsdale, AZ. Trellis J. Alt of El Dorado, KS passed away on October 5, 2020. She was born on October 17, 1947, the daughter of Wilfred and Esther (Brunner) Kohlieber.&nbsp; She graduated from Herington, High School in 1965 and was united in marriage to Johnny M. Alt on September 12, 1965.

Trellis worked as a corrections officer at Wyoming State Penitentiary, Ellsworth Prison and El Dorado Prison. She loved traveling with her sister Annette. Among the many bus trips they took were to Branson, &nbsp;Niagara Falls, and Mount Rushmore. She loved Coca Cola and had to have one every afternoon.

Her loving family includes 2 sons, Tim Alt of Amarillo, TX; Stephen Alt of El Dorado, KS; &nbsp;sister Annette Wendt of White City, KS.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Johnny M. Alt,&nbsp; sister Janice and husband &nbsp;Jon Pyle and brother in law Jerry Wendt.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 17 at 2 p.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington, KS led by Pastor Bill Newman.

Jennifer Kay Maneth, age 62, loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, left her family to gain her eternal wings on Tuesday October 13th, 2020 at Diversicare of Council Grove.

Jennifer was born May 4, 1958 to William (Bill) &amp; Kay (Dorfshaffer) Maneth. She was a long time resident of Great Bend, Kansas and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1976. Jennifer worked at Marmie Motor’s in Great Bend as a bookkeeper. In August of 1981, she had her only child, Samantha (Maneth) Asebedo. On and off over the year’s she took college classes at Barton County Community College. She enjoyed the art classes falling in love with oil painting and ceramics. In 1999 she moved to Denver, Colorado, working at several different places. She moved back to Kansas in 2007, to Council Grove, for the birth of her first grandchild. Of all of the things she loved most; it was her family and animals.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her father William F. Maneth, granddaughter Odella Asebedo, and both sets of grandparents. She is survived by her mother Kay E. (Dorshaffer) Maneth of Great Bend, daughter Samanatha J. (Matthew)Asebedo of Wilsey, grandchildren Isabella &amp; Noah Asebedo of Wilsey, her 2 brothers John (Sandra) Maneth of Great Bend, and David (Angela) Maneth of Wichita.

Cremation has taken place, family visitation will be held Oct 24, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. There will be a private family burial.
