Blake's life began on January 30, 1990 in Salina.  He was the son of Nick and Janet (Seidel) Mayes.  Blake was a 2008 graduate of Beloit High School and attended Cloud County Community College.  He was a wrestler in high school, winning State at the 152-pound weight class his senior year.  Blake began wrestling at the age of 4 and excelled at the sport.  As much as he excelled at wrestling, Blake's true passion was music.  He could play any instrument and wrote his own music and lyrics.  He could sit down, pick up an instrument and within a short time make it sound like he had played it for years. Blake had a strong believe in God, accepted Jesus as his Savior and shared those beliefs with others.

  His loving family includes his parents Nick and Janet of Wichita; brothers Braden Mayes and Braden’s wife Kacey of Wichita, and Blaise Mayes of Wichita; daughter Nevaeh Mayes and paternal grandmother JoAnn Putnam and husband Arden of Downs and many other relatives and friends.

  Blake passed away on Thursday April 23, 2020 in Wichita.  He is preceded in death by a daughter Mickayla Mayes. Jerry Don Plett of Lincolnville died Monday at St. Luke Hospital in Marion on his 84th birthday.&nbsp; He was born April 27, 1936, to Dan and Rosella Plett of Lehigh.&nbsp; Jerry graduated from Lehigh Rural High School in 1954 and was led by his church traditions to be a conscientious objector regarding active military service.&nbsp; He served his country at the Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver from 1956 to 1957 as a subject of an experiment in dehydrated foods for service members in the field of battle.&nbsp;

After his discharge, he began a 64-year farming career around Lehigh and farmed at Lincolnville after 1964.&nbsp; Despite encountering health problems in September 2018 and undergoing hip replacement a year ago, he continued a Hereford cattle operation until his death.&nbsp; His wife, Rowena Lavonne Seibel, was a student at Tabor College when they met.&nbsp; They were married on June 11, 1966, at Garden Park Mennonite Brethren Church in Denver.&nbsp; They raised six children: Candace Krebs of Enid, OK, Dawn (Donnie) Hett of Marion, Angie (Matt) Ehlers of Superior, NE, Pam (Richard) Idleman of Herington, Jason (Amy) Plett of Lincolnville, and Josh (Renae) Plett of Hillsboro.&nbsp; He has 14 grandchildren: Sydney Idleman, Cole Ehlers, Morgan (Ehlers) Rugg, Lane Ehlers, Quinton Hett, Laura (Idleman) Hett, Jeremy Hett, Mekenzie Ehlers, Alli Hett, Jenaya Plett, Brogan Plett, Brady Idleman, Luke Idleman, and Landry Plett; five great-grandchildren: Camille, Sawyer, and Henry Rugg, Scarlett and Amory Jones-Idleman, and four on the way.&nbsp;

Jerry's greatest desire was that his children and grandchildren would have fulfilling marriage relationships.&nbsp; He taught them to appreciate the truly important things, and they held him in high esteem.&nbsp; In the eyes of his family, Jerry had a unique personality.&nbsp; He was a serious person who sought out wisdom and understanding and unpretentiously shared what he learned with family and in everyday contact with people.&nbsp; He lived conscientiously and set a high standard for himself in discipline, hard work, and honestly in dealings with others.&nbsp; His greatest regret was not living to see the fulfillment of the promise of a new world filled with truth and justice.&nbsp;

Jerry has three siblings Bob (Eileen) Plett of Reedley, CA, Joan Duerksen of Newton, and Carol (Bob Wright) Jantz of Highlands Park, CO.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by a brother in law Willis Duerksen.

Arnita R. (Price) Brown departed this earthly world on Saturday April 18, 2020 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Arnita was the eleventh child born to Surepty Jane (Johnson) Price and Fate Price Sr. on July 15, 1933 in San Augustine, TX. As a teenager Arnita loved basketball and it was at a basketball game that she met the man she would marry, Tellis Earl Brown. On September 1, 1949 Arnita was joined with Tellis in holy matrimony in San. Augustine, TX. To this union, five children were born, Shirley, Sharon, Sheila, Tellis Jr. and Earline.

In early 1950 Tellis and Arnita moved to Junction City, KS where they would raise their children. In Junction City, Arnita joined Second Baptist Missionary Church, where she served as a Deaconess and the church Treasurer for many years. Arnita was an inquisitive woman who valued education and loved to travel. Over the years, as a Deaconess, Arnita traveled the continental US representing her Church at various conventions and conferences. It was during these travels that Arnita was able to satisfy her inquisitive mind…though only for a time. It never failed that after returning from one trip, she only needed to be asked if she would consider attending another conference or serve as a representative at the next Church convention and she was well on her way. Tellis often said, “No grass will ever grow under ‘Nita’s” feet!

Because of her love of education, Arnita pursued a college education; obtaining an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business Administration from Brown-Mackie College in 1988. In addition on May 10, 1997 Arnita received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Bible-Management and Ethics from Manhattan Christian College. Arnita was a well-known fixture in Junction City and she was a resource to many residents. She was known to provide motherly advice to many and she would often offer suggestions on where to go and what to see. Arnita was known for greeting everyone with her beautiful smile and a hug, she never knew a stranger. She was a loving Mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren and an “adoptive” and “surrogate” mother and grandmother to a host of young women and men.

Arnita was a devoted wife for over five decades. Arnita was preceded in death by her parents, each of her siblings, her husband Tellis Earl Brown, one daughter Earline Brown and one son Tellis Earl Brown Jr.

Arnita leaves to mourn, three daughters Shirley Self (Frank) of Waxhaw, NC; Sharon Davis and Sheila Cox both of Junction City, KS; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, one great- great-grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews; and a wide body of extended family. She will be greatly missed.

Burial will take place at Fort Riley Cemetery. It is the families wishes to have a Celebration of Life service possibly at a later date due to the current environment surrounding the coronavirus. Thank you for your understanding during this challenging time.

June O. Wiehl, of Junction City, KS, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of the 24th of April, 2020. She was in the care of her son, Hartley, who wrote the following poem about her shortly after her passing:

Forty-five minutes later, she began to yawn,

She said she wanted me to turn out the light,

So, I flattened her pillow and pulled the chain;

Thinking that tomorrow we'd do it all again.

For that was the last time I heard her speak,

Cuz, in the morning she was cold to the touch;

I knew I loved her, I just didn't know how much!!

June was born on the 3rd of June, 1921 to Theodore &amp; Bessie "Strong" Jensen. She was the 6th of 7 children and was raised on her parent's farm outside Kensington, in Smith County. She attended Norton Grade School, then went to Kensington High School, where she was the valedictorian of the class of 1938. She then, upon graduating from Brown-Mackey Business College in Salina, went to work for Capper Publications in Topeka. In 1941 she came to Junction City and started working for the Department of Defense at Fort Riley for 15 years. In order to be closer to her children, she then took a position in the John G. Willome Accounting Firm before returning to civil service as the supervisor of the Stanfins Section of the Finance and Accounting Office, at Fort Riley. She retired in 1981.

She married Raymond O. Boudrie on February 28, 1942 in Junction City. To this union one child was born, before the marriage ended in divorce. On the 1st of January, 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, Ralph S. Wiehl and they remained married until his death in October of 2008. There were four children born to this union.

June is survived by her loving family: two daughters Theodora "Boudrie" Brent-Gardner, of Phoenix, Arizona and Danette "Wiehl" Ford, of Algonquin, Illinois; two sons Dean Wiehl of Bixby, Oklahoma and Hartley Wiehl of the home. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by her sister, Wauneta Robinson, of Beloit, Kansas and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Terry, grandson Roger, and siblings Frieda Jensen, Lovella Myers, Harold Jensen, Birdie Thompson and Dulcye Haslett.

A memorial service will take place at a later date at the First Christian Church of Junction City. Johnson Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Mark Edward Gerard, 68, of Wamego, KS passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, KS.

On February 4, 1952 Mark was born to Donald and Helen (Gans) Gerard in Salina, KS.&nbsp; Mark graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He started his career working at Kansas Power and Light.&nbsp; In 1991, he moved on to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Bureau of Water, in Topeka, KS.&nbsp; Mark retired in 2011.&nbsp;

Mark was a faithful volunteer at the Wamego Animal Shelter for many years. He was also a supporter of many animal rights organizations.

He is survived by a brother, Guy Gerard, Miramar Beach, FL; and an aunt, Shirley Gans, McPherson, KS.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by his parents.

Mark will be interred at the Gypsum Hill Cemetery near Salina, KS at a later date.

Teddy Omar Hodges, age 97, died on Friday, April 24, 2020, at the Presbyterian Manor, in Salina, Kansas.

Ted was born on October 17, 1922, in Ravenna, Texas, to Omar and Effie (Jackson) Hodges. During the Depression, the family moved to a ranch in Mulberry, Texas. Ted grew up spending a lot of time outdoors, working hard, riding horses, swimming, fishing and hunting. If they didn’t go too fast, Ted and his brother Jack were allowed to drive a Model A Ford to their grade school. When their driving privileges were cut, they rode their horses instead, corralling them in the school’s barn. Ted graduated from high school in Bonham, Texas, and worked on the ranch until the start of World War II. Enlisting in the Army Air Corps with his brother and a friend, Ted ended up being stationed in Burma and India.

Back home in Texas after the war, on December 7, 1946, Ted met Nancy Lou Leslie. A seemingly chance encounter in the town square on a Saturday night, a flip of a coin and a movie date resulted in love and a proposal. The wedding took place in Bailey, Texas, at the First United Methodist Church on August 29, 1948. Ted was twenty-five. Nancy was seventeen. During their sixty-three years of marriage, Ted and Nancy lived in Texas, Iowa, Arkansas, Missouri, Michigan, Kansas and Egypt. They had three children, ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Ted missed Nancy greatly after her death in 2011.

Ted was thankful to have been able to benefit from the GI Bill to study engineering. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&amp;M, a master’s degree from Iowa State University, and a PhD from Michigan State University. Ted worked in the Engineering Department at Kansas State University, in Manhattan, Kansas, from 1959 to his retirement in 1989. Ted loved teaching. He was known for being a very formal professor, wearing a suit and tie to class every day. In addition to teaching agricultural and architectural engineering and construction science, Ted served as Associate Dean of Engineering.

During his very long life, Ted enjoyed spending time with family and friends, training his dogs, hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, gardening, doing yard work and being part of a church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, brother, sister and great-grandchild.

Survivors include his three children: Joe (Pam) Salina, KS; Mike (Judy) Mission Hills, KS; and Karen, Austin, TX; ten grandchildren: Bill, Steve, Sarah, Elizabeth, Hanna, Max, Alex, Ted, Leslie and Ben; eight spouses of grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Private family graveside services will be in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan with David Pape officiating.

Teddy Omar Hodges, age 97, died on Friday, April 24, 2020, at the Presbyterian Manor, in Salina, Kansas.Ted was born on October 17, 1922, in Ravenna, Texas, to Omar and Effie (Jackson) Hodges. During the Depression, the family moved to a ranch in Mulberry, Texas. Ted grew up spending a lot of time outdoors, working hard, riding horses, swimming, fishing and hunting. If they didn’t go too fast, Ted and his brother Jack were allowed to drive a Model A Ford to their grade school. When their driving privileges were cut, they rode their horses instead, corralling them in the school’s barn. Ted graduated from high school in Bonham, Texas, and worked on the ranch until the start of World War II. Enlisting in the Army Air Corps with his brother and a friend, Ted ended up being stationed in Burma and India.Back home in Texas after the war, on December 7, 1946, Ted met Nancy Lou Leslie. A seemingly chance encounter in the town square on a Saturday night, a flip of a coin and a movie date resulted in love and a proposal. The wedding took place in Bailey, Texas, at the First United Methodist Church on August 29, 1948. Ted was twenty-five. Nancy was seventeen. During their sixty-three years of marriage, Ted and Nancy lived in Texas, Iowa, Arkansas, Missouri, Michigan, Kansas and Egypt. They had three children, ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She knitted hundreds of socks and vests for her relatives and even for people she did not know. Her ultimate desire to always be close to her children triggered her move to Manhattan, KS in 2008.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Victor S. Bedros, and her brother Rafael Bechara. She is survived by her children Fadia Bedros, Bassam Bedros, Mr. &amp; Mrs. Nabil Bedros, Mr. &amp; Mrs. Imad Bedros, and Dr. &amp; Mrs. Fadi Bedros, her seven grandchildren, Gregory, Joseph, Victor, Marilina, Rita, Victoria, and Christopher, many siblings, nieces, and nephews.

Myra Ann (Cooke) Pearson, age 79, passed away unexpectedly at her home on April 16, 2020, from complications related to lung cancer. She was born in 1941, in Denver, CO to Melville and Lettie (Gregory) Cooke, and was the youngest of 5 daughters.

Myra grew up in Denver and graduated from South High in 1959 and attended Colorado State University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She eventually got a job with United Airlines working in Reservations under a very handsome supervisor, who would turn out to be the love of her life- Bob Pearson! She and Bob were married in 1962 and soon had 2 children, Kimberly Ann and Eric Lee. They enjoyed many wonderful years raising their children in Aurora, CO, surrounded by wonderful friends, neighbors, and family close by.

In 1978 Myra and Bob and the family moved to Manhattan, KS where Bob joined his brother Terry in operating Kansas State Travel Agency. During those early years in Manhattan, Myra was Secretary for the Westloop Association and eventually began working reservations for the travel agency. Myra always treated her customers as friends and family- getting them safe and worry-free arrangements the best she could. Many of her co-workers and customers continued to remain very close to her heart. Both Bob and Myra finally retired from the travel agency in 2004 and enjoyed the rest of their years at home, spending time with each other and entertaining grandkids.

Myra will be fondly remembered for her constant smile and positive attitude, her witty sense of humor, and her strong and steady faith in God. The family rejoices in the fact that she is finally reunited with her husband, Bob, who died last year, and that she is finally healthy and at peace with her Lord.

Surviving family members include daughter Kim (Pearson) Robben - husband Doug and grandchildren Sean, Samantha, and Nicholas; son Eric Pearson- wife Lauri (Oppenheimer) and grandchildren Graham and Mary Hadley, and sister Betty Lou (Cooke) Cudworth of Lakewood, CO.

Teresa Fay Mills of Marion, KS passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2020 after fighting 15 days from a massive brain bleed.

Teresa was born by Thurman and Louise Smith in Garden City, KS on March 19, 1953.

Throughout her life, Teresa grew up in Arizona, moved to Washington as a retired LPN and then moved to Marion, KS to be closer to family in 2018.

Teresa’s vivacious personality drew her to many enjoyments in life that included nature, hunting, her yorkie dogs, Billy and Bella, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Teresa was always known as the life of the party and found her calling as the Director of the Marion Historical Museum. Teresa would create craft workshops and history scavenger hunts for the children who would stop by the museum. She was honored to be welcomed into the Marion community and has left a footprint for those who miss her.

Go rest in peace, be free and see on you the other side of the rainbow.

Teresa Fay (Smith) Mills - March 19, 1953-April 25, 2020

Scott Eugene Karsting came into this world on July 11, 1952 in Hastings,
 NE the only son of Eugene (Gene) and Phyllis Karsting.  He went to 
heaven on April 22, 2020 after a long battle with cancer at the age of 
67 in Smyrna, TN.


	The first year he lived with his mom and grandpa and grandma 
Karsting while waiting to meet his dad who was serving in the Korean 
war.  He spent the next few years traveling with his parents while dad 
worked with the REA running the first electrical lines to rural farmers 
in South Dakota &amp; Nebraska.  Scott and his new sister Deb moved to 
Great Bend with his parents in 1956.  When he was 13, he moved to Smith 
Center, KS where he met many friends and graduated high school in 1970. 
 He went on an adventure and joined the US Air Force and received the 
rank of sergeant.  He was very proud to have served his country.


	His sister always laughed because her tough big brother loved to 
grow flowers and was always sending her pictures of them.  His great 
love was motorcycles.  He worked at Big Dog for many years with his best
 friend John Norton.  He joined a Christian motorcycle club, the cross 
Soldiers, and rode many events and enjoyed riding with many of his 
friends.  He loved his two dogs Charlie &amp; Chyna.  He was always 
bringing home strays when he was a kid.  He loved fishing and collected 
ancient shark teeth.  He was much loved.  His parents went to heaven 
before him in 2014 and 2016.


	He leaves behind his lifelong partner Cathy of LaVergne, TN. A 
daughter Nicole (Mike) Parks of Neenah, WI; sister Deb (Gary) Wagenblast
 of Smith Center, KS; nieces Stephanie (Rich) Schintler and Mindi (Todd)
 Searls; great niece Faith Schintler; great nephew Wyatt Searls; a host 
of family and friends.

Justin Clifton Carlson, age 39, a longtime Manhattan resident, passed away April 20, 2020, at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City.

He was born May 10, 1980, in Manhattan, the son of Carl Emil Carlson and Doris Evelyn (Martin) Smith.

Justin graduated from Manhattan High School and then worked as a cook at several local restaurants.

He loved being in nature, collecting rocks, and enjoyed planting and taking care of his plants. He enjoyed music, watching movies and youtube videos, Marvel &amp; DC, and was very creative and had many great ideas for inventions. Most of all he has a good head on his shoulders, was a very good person and was frugal and resourceful.

Survivors include his mother of Topeka; four siblings: Gary Smith of Manhattan, Katherine Carlson of Topeka, Brian Carlson of Topeka, and Jonathan Deppe of Independence, MO; and two uncles: Jerry Martin of San Antonio, TX, and Earl Martin of Los Angeles, CA.

Justin was preceded in death by his father and by his aunt Linda Silva.

Ronald “Ron” E. Fox, 75, of Wamego, Kansas, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas. &nbsp;He had been a long-time resident of the community and is deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.&nbsp;

Ron was born on December 28, 1944, in Pawnee City, Nebraska, the son of Don and Rita Fox. He grew up on a farm. &nbsp;Ron graduated from Emmett High School. &nbsp;He proudly served in the Kansas National Guard and U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era.

Early on, Ron worked at Capital Marble &amp; Tile, followed by employment at Goodyear. He later opened, Ron’s Ceramic Tile. He took great pride in detail and precise craftsmanship which is treasured by many. He retired in 2015. &nbsp;He was a member of Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church, St. George American Legion and Santa Fe Trail Association.

Due to Ron’s kind heart and fun-loving demeanor he never met a stranger. Ron was a gifted conversationalist and storyteller. Ron brought joy everywhere he went.

Ron frequented the local coffee shop, where he enjoyed connecting with friends, new and old alike. In recent years, he enjoyed playing cards at the Wamego Senior Center. &nbsp;Ron loved driving around and keeping up with community developments. He would often swing by the car wash. Family laughed that he may have gone thru the car wash multiple times a day. &nbsp;He was known for stopping to visit with those he encountered along the way. He was always eager to lend a hand, to anyone that needed it. &nbsp;Ron loved time spent with his family and enjoyed capturing memories with his phone.

Ron enjoyed the outdoors. He spent time driving an ATV, fishing, mowing for others and helping with farm work. Recently, Ron finished building his first squirrel feeder. &nbsp;

Ron married Judy Caudill. &nbsp;She preceded him in death. &nbsp;Ron then married Marcia Birney on August 6, 1978, in Manhattan, KS. &nbsp;She survives at their home.

Ron is also survived by his children; Amy Birdwell (Lee, Jason Fox (Shannon, and Justin Fox (Beth); his grandchildren, Cody Birdwell (Chelsea, Kinley Fox, Kylin Fox, Luke Fox, Zach Fox, and Mark Fox; one great-grandchild, Owen Birdwell; his siblings, Jerry Fox, Jeanette Otter (Norbert, Eugene Fox (Janet, Gary Fox (Evelyn, and Randy Fox. &nbsp;Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Rita Fox, his late wife, Judy, his son, Scott Fox, his stepson, Jeff Birney Fox, and sister-in-law Marikay Fox.

&nbsp;A graveside inurnment service, with military honors, will be held at the St. George Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Ron’s Life at a later date. &nbsp;The family suggests memorial contributions to the Ron Fox Memorial Fund, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego.&nbsp;

Fox, 75, of Wamego, Kansas, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas. &nbsp;He had been a long-time resident of the community and is deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.&nbsp;Ron was born on December 28, 1944, in Pawnee City, Nebraska, the son of Don and Rita Fox. He grew up on a farm. &nbsp;Ron graduated from Emmett High School. &nbsp;He proudly served in the Kansas National Guard and U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era.Early on, Ron worked at Capital Marble &amp; Tile, followed by employment at Goodyear. He later opened, Ron’s Ceramic Tile. He took great pride in detail and precise craftsmanship which is treasured by many. He retired in 2015. &nbsp;He was a member of Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church, St. George American Legion and Santa Fe Trail Association.Due to Ron’s kind heart and fun-loving demeanor he never met a stranger. Ron was a gifted conversationalist and storyteller. Ron brought joy everywhere he went.Ron frequented the local coffee shop, where he enjoyed connecting with friends, new and old alike. In recent years, he enjoyed playing cards at the Wamego Senior Center. &nbsp;Ron loved driving around and keeping up with community developments. He would often swing by the car wash. Family laughed that he may have gone thru the car wash multiple times a day. &nbsp;He was known for stopping to visit with those he encountered along the way. He was always eager to lend a hand, to anyone that needed it. &nbsp;Ron loved time spent with his family and enjoyed capturing memories with his phone.Ron enjoyed the outdoors. He spent time driving an ATV, fishing, mowing for others and helping with farm work. Recently, Ron finished building his first squirrel feeder. &nbsp;Ron married Judy Caudill. &nbsp;She preceded him in death. &nbsp;Ron then married Marcia Birney on August 6, 1978, in Manhattan, KS. &nbsp;She survives at their home.Ron is also survived by his children; Amy Birdwell (Lee, Jason Fox (Shannon, and Justin Fox (Beth); his grandchildren, Cody Birdwell (Chelsea, Kinley Fox, Kylin Fox, Luke Fox, Zach Fox, and Mark Fox; one great-grandchild, Owen Birdwell; his siblings, Jerry Fox, Jeanette Otter (Norbert, Eugene Fox (Janet, Gary Fox (Evelyn, and Randy Fox. &nbsp;Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Rita Fox, his late wife, Judy, his son, Scott Fox, his stepson, Jeff Birney Fox, and sister-in-law Marikay Fox.&nbsp;A graveside inurnment service, with military honors, will be held at the St. George Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Ron’s Life at a later date. &nbsp;The family suggests memorial contributions to the Ron Fox Memorial Fund, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego.&nbsp;

Anita Madrigal Thomas, age 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2020, at her home surrounded by family. She was born November 27, 1944 in Council Grove, to Louis O. and Carmen (Juarez) Madrigal. She is survived by her 3 siblings, Lupe, Louise and John.

She was a 1962 graduate of Council Grove High School. She graduated from Wichita Business College in 1963. She worked at various locations in Council Grove including Kansas Instruments and Axe Equipment. She retired in 2008.

If you lived in Council Grove you knew Anita, she volunteered at St. Rose Catholic Church, CG Thrift Store and was the founder of Teen Graffiti which started the After Prom Party in 1989. She served for 15 years on Council Grove City Council. She was president of St Rose Altar Society, taught catechism and was a member of Flint Hills Kiwanis. She volunteered with Relay for Life, Washunga Days and many other local events.

Anita was a 5-time cancer survivor and served as unofficial support network for dozens of local women in Morris County from the 1970’s until she left this world. She shared her kind spirit and fierce attitude with many other survivors.

Anita was a strong advocate for Hispanics in Morris County for decades. She was raised by first generation immigrants and was passionate about helping others. From working as an impromptu translator with the Sheriff’s Department to ensuring Hispanic families were treated fairly and had opportunities to succeed, she was always there to lend a hand.

If you asked Anita, her true joy was her family. She is survived by her husband, Alvin “Bud” Thomas, married for 50 years. She was born to be a mother. She is survived by her two children and their families Stephanie and Matt Holloway as well as Chris Thomas and his fiancé’ Hanna Gorham. The next chapter and loves of her life were her grandchildren, Joshua Holloway, Sophia Holloway, Fallon Goedeke and Alvin Thomas. Her eyes sparkled when she talked of her kids and grandkids.

She lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; spending time with her family, her strong faith and the joy of helping others. Anita had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way.

Loren D. Buxman, 90, of rural Junction City, died Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Stoneybrook Health &amp; Rehabilitation in Manhattan. Loren was born March 24, 1930 at Ramona, the son of Andrew and Caroline (Hanshu) Buxman. Loren grew up on the farm at Ramona and graduated from Ramona High School. He continued his education by attending Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia (now Emporia State University) and earned his teaching certificate.

Loren taught elementary school in country schools for several years. He later became a traveling livestock feed salesman, selling Purina Feed for many years. At the same time, he worked outside sales and as a Ring Man at Junction City Livestock Auction, where he developed many life-long friendships. He also enjoyed running cattle of his own.

Loren was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War.

Loren married Bonnie Seaman, and they had a daughter Sentta Buxman. Bonnie and Loren were later divorced.

Loren married the love of his life Louise Smotherman on February 1, 1981 at Olsburg.

Survivors include: his wife Louise Buxman of the home; his daughter, Sentta Ralston and her husband Brad, Lafayette, Indiana; 3 step-sons, Kevin Smotherman and his wife Natasha, Omaha, NE, Kent Smotherman and his wife Melanie, Omaha, NE, and Kirt Smotherman and his companion Shelley, Louisburg; 12 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. Loren was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Elisha, Dewayne, and Melvin Buxman; and a step-son Keith Smotherman.

Phyllis Weyerts, 93 years young, passed away in her sleep on April 19, 2020, at Stoneybrook Health Care, Manhattan, KS.

Phyllis was born Phyllis Lucille Nietfeld in Atwood, Kansas, on April 11, 1927, to Henry and Charlotte (Holste) Nietfeld. She earned her degree in Chemistry and Education in 1949 at Denver University, where she met her husband of 60 years, Alfred Weyerts.

The couple were married in Ludell, Kansas June 27, 1950, and then moved to Richland, Washington, where their three daughters were born. Four years later they moved to Aiken, South Carolina, where they had three boys. In 1963 the family came to Manhattan where Al worked in the Chemistry Department at Kansas State University, and Phyllis taught physics and chemistry at Manhattan High School. Education and personal growth were always important to Phyllis. In 1977, when Manhattan High School started a Learning Disabilities Program, Phyllis earned her second Master’s degree in Special Education and became a beloved counselor and student advocate.

Travel for adventure and education was a big part of Phyllis' life. There were many camping trips in the family station wagon, and while the six kids were in grade school, the family of eight took two epic summer camping trips. One hit key points of interest in the eastern half of the country. The next year they looped through parks and attractions of the west. Phyllis visited India when Al was there with USAID. Later she hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon with Al and the boys. After her retirement from teaching in 1990, Phyllis and Al rode a tandem bicycle across Kansas. They went to Africa to visit her brother who was a volunteer surgeon at a mission hospital in Uganda. They also traveled to see their children living in Bellingham, Washington; Burlington, Vermont; and Honaunau, Hawaii, and took a trip to Germany to see the Oberammergau Passion Play.

Phyllis was active in the St. Luke's Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, was active in the LWML and bible study groups, led the adult choir and the children's choir, and visited shut-ins with Al.

Phyllis always had an understanding ear, an open heart and a friendly smile. She encouraged her children, grandchildren and students to expand their awareness by exploring science, music, art and nature. Her loving acceptance and guidance touched the lives of many.

Phyllis is survived by a brother, Harlan Nietfeld of Colorado Springs, and five of her children: Wanda House and husband Jim of Manhattan; Twila Schneiders of Salina, KS; Leah Burke and husband David of Burlington, VT; David Weyerts and wife Judy of Zeandale, KS; and Daniel Weyerts of Lawrence, KS. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: James, Maggie, Joe, Jon, Katie, Josh, Mercedes, Lily, Molly and Brook; and 9 great-grandchildren: Melanie, Jaryd, Landyn, Charlotte, Ethan, Rylie, Mason, Lylah, and Praxis.

She is preceded in death by her husband Alfred, her brother Kenneth, her son Douglas, her son-in-law Dick Schneiders, and her grandson, Bryant House.

Beverly graduated high school in St. George, Ks. in 1964. She moved to La Crosse, Ks. in 1981, where she worked at and retired from the Central Ambulance District in 1992. She was involved in local the 4-H club and Otis Old Iron Days in Otis, Ks. for many years. She loved her pets, Gizmo, LC, PeeWee, and Misty. She Loved cooking and doing crafts.

She is survived by her children Richard Jensen of La Crosse, Danny Jensen and wife Bess of Rush Center, Ks. and one daughter Sheri Green, also of La Crosse, five grandsons, and one sister, Rebecca Gruenewald of Rapid City, SD, and numerous nieces and nephews.

On Saturday, April 18, 2020, Deborah Self Gray, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away peacefully at Geary Community Hospital at age 64.

Deborah was born on October 1, 1955 in Montross, Virginia, but has been a resident of Junction City, KS since 1988. On July 7, 1973 she married James "Jimmy" Gray and raised one daughter, Janell Gray, and one son, James L. Gray. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Columbia Southern University. Deborah worked for the Civil Service for 39 years and has worked faithfully for the 407th AFSBn Riley Logistics Support Element as Chief, Supply and Services Division while living in Kansas.

Deborah touched the lives of many through her work and dedication to customers and soldier's needs while also making time for her family. She enjoyed a simple relaxed life that centered around her love for her husband, children, and granddaughter. Deborah had a passion for keeping her mind sharp by playing mind stimulating games on her tablet. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her loving and devoted husband Jimmy.

Deborah is preceded in death by her mother Alice Davis, step-father Joseph Davis, brother John Self and sister Louise Byrd. She leaves precious memories with her loving and devoted husband of 46 years, James "Jimmy" Gray, two children Janell Gray and James Gray, one granddaughter Deja Daniels and a grand dog Simba. Four Siblings Raymond Self (Lucille) of Mesquite, TX, Alice Saunders (Edward) of Montross, VA, Georgia Phillips (Eldridge) of Petersburg, VA and Lloyd Self of Odenton, MD. She also leaves loving memories with a mother-in-law Genora Gray, two sisters-in-law Arlessa Gray and Sharon Gray and one brother-in-law Antonio Gray and many other loving relatives and friends.

On Saturday, April 18, 2020, Deborah Self Gray, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away peacefully at Geary Community Hospital at age 64.Deborah was born on October 1, 1955 in Montross, Virginia, but has been a resident of Junction City, KS since 1988. On July 7, 1973 she married James "Jimmy" Gray and raised one daughter, Janell Gray, and one son, James L. Gray. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Columbia Southern University. Deborah worked for the Civil Service for 39 years and has worked faithfully for the 407th AFSBn Riley Logistics Support Element as Chief, Supply and Services Division while living in Kansas.Deborah touched the lives of many through her work and dedication to customers and soldier's needs while also making time for her family. She enjoyed a simple relaxed life that centered around her love for her husband, children, and granddaughter. Deborah had a passion for keeping her mind sharp by playing mind stimulating games on her tablet. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her loving and devoted husband Jimmy.Deborah is preceded in death by her mother Alice Davis, step-father Joseph Davis, brother John Self and sister Louise Byrd. She leaves precious memories with her loving and devoted husband of 46 years, James "Jimmy" Gray, two children Janell Gray and James Gray, one granddaughter Deja Daniels and a grand dog Simba. Four Siblings Raymond Self (Lucille) of Mesquite, TX, Alice Saunders (Edward) of Montross, VA, Georgia Phillips (Eldridge) of Petersburg, VA and Lloyd Self of Odenton, MD. She also leaves loving memories with a mother-in-law Genora Gray, two sisters-in-law Arlessa Gray and Sharon Gray and one brother-in-law Antonio Gray and many other loving relatives and friends.Due to the current environment surrounding the COVID-19, there will be a private family visitation at the Johnson Cremations-Funerals-Receptions, Junction City, KS. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Wayne Lee Bennett, 32, of Greenville, SC, formerly of Junction City, KS, passed April 8, 2020. Johnson Funeral Home of Junction City is assisting the family with cremation arrangements. A private family gathering will be held with a public Celebration of Life planned for a later date.

He was born on February 5, 1988, in Junction City, Kansas to Richard and Tina (Bennett) Twiggs. He grew up in Junction City and graduated from Junction City High School class of 2006. After high school, he worked as a chef and then a heavy equipment operator. He ultimately settled in Greenville, South Carolina.

Wayne was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He loved to fish for catfish.

Wayne is survived by his loving family: his mother Tina Bennett if Junction City, KS; his father Richard Twiggs of Troy AL; mentor and father figure Richard Palmer of Junction City, KS; one son, Tyler Ray Vance Bennett-Clark; two daughters, Kaydence Americus Nacole Bennett-Clark and Haylee Mariah Bennett-Clark; two brothers, Kyle Leigh Twiggs of Longford, KS and Sean Steven Twiggs of Troy, AL; one sister, Rita Marie Curry of Junction City, KS; his Grandfather, Raymond Bennett of Junction City, KS; his fiancé Metta Pridmore and her three daughters of Greenville, SC; and a host of loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Marie Bennett, and paternal grandparents, Douglas Lee and Stella Mae Twiggs.

David Eugene Fee, age 74 of Manhattan, passed away Saturday April 18, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House.



He was born on February 27, 1946 in Broughton, the son of Albert and Sylvia (Wilson) Fee.

He graduated from NCK Technical School in Beloit in 1983 and was a heavy equipment operator for the Walker Stone Company in Chapman.  He was a member of the College Avenue United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing.

On July 21, 1972, he was married to Patricia Kendall.  She preceded him in death in 2015.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.



A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at the Broughton Cemetery with Rev. Dennis Ackerman officiating.

A memorial has been established for the David Fee Memorial Fund.&nbsp; Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
