Mike’s life began on April 21, 1962, the son of Richard and Betty (Weber) Schnitker in Evansville, Indiana. He graduated as Valedictorian from Buhler High School Class of 1981. He continued his studies and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business at Bethany College in Lindsborg and also became a CPA. Mike was a Commodities Trader for Koch Industries in Wichita. With his work ethic and skill set it later took him to trade for a bank in New York City. After Mike became disabled, he continued to enjoy being a Day Trader. His hobbies included music, playing the piano and organ, and he loved movies.

Mike passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, at the age of 58 years old. No more pain and suffering and he’s singing with the angels! His loving family includes his parents, Dick and Betty Schnitker of Wichita; brother, Terry Schnitker of Augusta, Kansas; two nieces, Makenzi and Mariah Schnitker also of Augusta.

Wayne P. Kilner, 82, passed away peacefully Friday, May 1, 2020 following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in the Olsburg, Kansas area on Aug 4, 1937 to the late Edmund Kilner and Julia (Roush) Kilner. A graduate of Manhattan High School, Wayne was united in marriage to Rita (Brockish) Kilner, in December 1959.

Wayne had a passion for automobiles, traveling, boating and spending time with family and friends. He was mechanically inclined and engaging, and used these skills throughout his career, holding positions with the Boeing Corporation in Wichita before returning to Manhattan to work for Tri-County Motors, Skaggs Ford and later Dick Edwards Auto dealerships where he became a highly recognized member of the sales force. In the early years, Wayne was also a well-known engine builder and driver among the local race teams, specializing in Quarter Mile drag racing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rita; grandson Christopher Lee Kilner; four brothers and three sisters. Wayne is survived by sons David, and Gary (Donna); four grandchildren, Kyle, Kevin, Krystal and Kenzie; a sister, Donna Lovgren (Jim); and several nephews and nieces.

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, a private burial will be held at Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan. The Kilner boys know Wayne would want all of his friends to join in the procession, his final cruise across the beautiful Country he so loved! Leaving the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. this Friday, May 8th bound for his resting place beside Rita. His book will be available to sign during the Funeral Home's regular business hours on Thursday, May 7, 2020.

Michelle Lynn (Caudill) Madison, 47, Junction City, KS, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at the Geary Community Hospital. A private family graveside service was held at the Fairmount Cemetery in Camden, Ohio. A private family graveside service took place at Fairmount Cemetery in Camden, OH.

Michelle was born May 31, 1972, in Richmond, VA to Michael Caudill and Julie (Sears) Zankert.

Michelle worked for many years at Tyme Out Lounge and Steakhouse. She was a hard worker. Over the years, she met a lot of people working and made many friends. A lot of people she met would have considered her a part of their family.

It would be wrong to say that Michelle lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, Michelle stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly looked like. There was no quit in Michelle. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn't mean she lost her fight.

Thomas Joseph Doll, 78, of Wamego, KS, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at The House at Midland Care, Topeka, KS. Tom was born April 15, 1942, to Herman and Marie (Brockish) in Westmoreland, KS. In his youth, he attended school in Wamego, KS. Tom graduated from Luckey High School, Manhattan, KS in 1960.

After high school, Tom enlisted in the Army National Guard. He began his professional career at Firestone Tire Company in Topeka, KS. Tom owned and operated Kaw Valley Tire Company in Wamego for many years. In 1986, Tom and his wife, Joan, moved to Holiday Island, AR, where they operated the Holiday Island Marina on Table Rock Lake. Upon returning to Kansas, Tom managed the Farmer’s Union Co-Op in Harveyville until his retirement.

Tom had a love of flying securing his private pilot’s license and acting as a board member of the Wamego Municipal Airport. He was proud to travel to Washington, DC, as a member of the 2019 Kansas Honor Flight program through Wamego High School.&nbsp; Tom enjoyed monthly luncheons with Joan and a special group of friends at South 40 Cafe in Westmoreland. He adored his grandchildren and enjoyed sharing special times with his family and friends.

Tom married Joan Timmons, August 25, 1962. Joan survives at their home in Wamego with their pup, Buddy.&nbsp;

His survivors include sons: Jeff (New York City, NY) and Ron, and his wife, Nancy, (Seattle, WA); 2 grandchildren: Brenna Doll and Max Doll (Seattle, WA); sister: Lois Doll Brazzle (Wamego, KS); brother-in-law: Jim Timmons, and his wife, Laura (Auburn, KS). 5 nephews: Brandon Brazzle, Chad Carrel, Jared Carrel, Bob Timmons and David Timmons; 2 nieces: Emily Brazzle and LaDonna Munoz.

Myron Westgate, 92, St. George, KS joined his wife in Heaven on Monday, May 4, 2020 after passing away at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, KS.

On May 10, 1927, Myron, was born to Donald and Nellie (Allen) Westgate in Manhattan, KS.&nbsp; Myron enlisted in the United State Navy in 1945 where he served as a cook for one year.&nbsp; He later served from 1950 – 1951 in the United States Army before being Honorably Discharged.&nbsp; Myron was the owner of Westgate Wheel Alignment in Junction City and Wamego.&nbsp; He was united in marriage on November 24, 1949 to Nancy Marie Muir.&nbsp; She preceded him in death in 2019.

Myron had several hobbies, but was known for being a tinkerer.&nbsp; He was able to fix anything with a piece of duct tape or baling wire, and was always willing to lend a hand to a family member or friend on projects.&nbsp; He also worked with horses in his younger years.&nbsp; Myron also enjoyed music.&nbsp; He loved playing the harmonica, piano, guitar, as well as singing old country music songs.

He is survived by four children, Michael Westgate (Lynn, St. George, KS, Kathleen Enoch (Michael, Manhattan, KS, Laurie Redding, Ellsworth, KS, and Jody Redding, St. George, KS; a brother, Danny Westgate (Jenny, Wamego, KS; two sisters, Winnie Trotter, St. George, KS, and Jessie Ruddell (Jay, Mesa, AZ; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, Erin Westgate and Sally Redding, and four siblings, Hazel Gleason, Toby Westgate, Willie Westgate, and Iva Lee Westgate.

Hugh E Mosher (Mo, 76, of Browns Valley, California (formally Wamego, Kansas) passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his daughter and Son-in -law, Jennifer and Glenn Greenwell, at their home in Roseville, California.

Hugh was born on March 26, 1944 in Lowell, Massachusetts , the son of Ellery and Roberta Mosher. &nbsp;He graduated school at Erskine Academy located in South China, Maine.&nbsp; Not long after graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and served in the Vietnam War.&nbsp; On August 24, 1984, he married the love of his life, Sherry Davies, in Canon City, Colorado. &nbsp;Mo worked as a Gold Miner in California for many years up until his retirement. &nbsp;In 2003, after Mo and Sherry both retired, they moved to Wamego, Kansas to settle down to enjoy their golden years.&nbsp; Together they made many friends and Mo always said, “Why would anyone want to live anywhere else besides Wamego, Kansas”.&nbsp; He truly knew no stranger…. And his sense of humor left you gasping.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mo was a car fanatic and was very proud of his collection, especially his ’40 Packard, which was his pride and joy.&nbsp; He put a lot of elbow grease into that beautiful car.&nbsp; He attended many car shows with it and seemed to always bring home the 1stplace trophy.&nbsp; Besides tinkering with his cars, he also enjoyed working in his yard. His lawn, trees and bushes were like no other… truly amazing!&nbsp;&nbsp; We think he mowed the lawn pretty much every day!

A few years after Sherry passed away, he moved back to California to be near his daughter, Jennifer.&nbsp; He bought a beautiful home in Browns Valley, California with some acreage and it kept him quite busy these last several years.&nbsp;

Mo was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sherry on June 12, 2010.&nbsp; He was also preceded by his sister, Roberta (Birdie) Grothause, along with his parents.

&nbsp;Mo is survived by his daughters Jennifer Greenwell and her husband Glenn; Jamie Edwards of Roseville, CA;&nbsp; one step-daughter, LaDonna Andritsch and her husband Bill of Paxico, KS ; one step-son, Russell Keys and his wife Lani, of St. George, KS; three sisters, Ethel Pontsler of Rockford, OH; Lyn Loughridge of Celina, OH and Gloria Bruce of Erie, CO. &nbsp;He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Private family services will be held at the Wamego City Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.&nbsp;

Floyd Judson “Jean” Dorsey, Jr., 92, of Manhattan, Kansas, formerly of Wabaunsee, died May 2, 2020, at the Via Christi Village.

Floyd was born June 5, 1927, in Berryville, Virginia, the son of Floyd and Myrtle Wells Dorsey. &nbsp;He attended local schools. Floyd earned a degree in Archaeology and Psychology from Emporia State University.&nbsp;

At the age of sixteen, Floyd lied about his age and joined the Army. &nbsp;When it was discovered he was under age, he joined the Merchant Marines until he was eighteen and then rejoined the United States Army. &nbsp;Floyd was a carrier soldier during WWII and Korea. &nbsp;He retired from the military in 1968 with the rank of Sergeant Major.

After his military service, Floyd worked construction, delivered bread and drove a school bus.

Floyd loved to work jigsaw puzzles and would teach his kids to lay the puzzle upside down so that no color or pictures would help him put together the puzzle. &nbsp;He enjoyed singing, whistling and gardening. He was an avid reader. &nbsp;He loved to be outside, and during his time at Via Christi Village, he would do what he called “walk a bouts” and travel in his wheelchair various places in Manhattan. He was the first ever recognized volunteer at Via Christi. He was a very active and beloved member of the Via Christi Community. &nbsp;Floyd was a Spiritualist and an ordained minister.&nbsp;

Floyd married Gwendolyn Annis on June 12, 1951. &nbsp;She preceded him in death on January 20, 2011.

Floyd is survived by his children; Floyd J. “Trey” Dorsey, III, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Myrtle “Murt” McKinney, Wamego, &nbsp;Carl Dorsey, Carbondale, Kitty Dorsey, St. George, and Ozzy Dorsey (Kayla, San Marcos, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Dorsey, Osage City; seventeen grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Johnnie Dorsey, a daughter, Karen “Sissy” Haynes, and a great-grandson; his sisters, Louise and Hallie; and two sons-in-law, Michael McKinney and Jerry Haynes.

A memorial service will be held at the Via Christie Village and inurnment with military honors at Manhattan Veteran’s Cemetery at a later date. &nbsp;The family suggests memorial contributions to Via Christi Village, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego. &nbsp;

Floyd earned a degree in Archaeology and Psychology from Emporia State University.&nbsp;At the age of sixteen, Floyd lied about his age and joined the Army. &nbsp;When it was discovered he was under age, he joined the Merchant Marines until he was eighteen and then rejoined the United States Army. &nbsp;Floyd was a carrier soldier during WWII and Korea. &nbsp;He retired from the military in 1968 with the rank of Sergeant Major.After his military service, Floyd worked construction, delivered bread and drove a school bus.Floyd loved to work jigsaw puzzles and would teach his kids to lay the puzzle upside down so that no color or pictures would help him put together the puzzle. &nbsp;He enjoyed singing, whistling and gardening. He was an avid reader. &nbsp;He loved to be outside, and during his time at Via Christi Village, he would do what he called “walk a bouts” and travel in his wheelchair various places in Manhattan. He was the first ever recognized volunteer at Via Christi. He was a very active and beloved member of the Via Christi Community. &nbsp;Floyd was a Spiritualist and an ordained minister.&nbsp;Floyd married Gwendolyn Annis on June 12, 1951. &nbsp;She preceded him in death on January 20, 2011.Floyd is survived by his children; Floyd J. “Trey” Dorsey, III, Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Myrtle “Murt” McKinney, Wamego, &nbsp;Carl Dorsey, Carbondale, Kitty Dorsey, St. George, and Ozzy Dorsey (Kayla, San Marcos, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Dorsey, Osage City; seventeen grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Johnnie Dorsey, a daughter, Karen “Sissy” Haynes, and a great-grandson; his sisters, Louise and Hallie; and two sons-in-law, Michael McKinney and Jerry Haynes.A memorial service will be held at the Via Christie Village and inurnment with military honors at Manhattan Veteran’s Cemetery at a later date. &nbsp;The family suggests memorial contributions to Via Christi Village, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego. &nbsp;

Virginia Ann (Baier) Anderes, age 86, of Elmo, Kansas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 3, 2020. As she walked her final journey on this earth, she was surrounded by many loving children and grandchildren.

Virginia was born on July 22, 1933 in Salina, Kansas to James and Leona Baier. Virginia was their fourth child.

On October 11th, 1952 she wed the love of her life, Vincent (Herman) Anderes, whom she was married to for over 60 years, and had nine children: Bill Anderes, Rhonda Foth, Greg Anderes (Sharon, Diane Shoemaker (Rodney, Yvonne Woodall (Dennis, Kim Svoboda (Kevin, Mark Anderes (Jill, Mike Anderes (Lenece) and Lisa Elliott.

Virginia was a wonderful mother who was passionate about her children. Her interests were taking care of her nine children, raising flowers, and caring for her chickens. For over 20 years Virginia would take flowers to St. Columba church, where she was a lifetime member. She would frequently place fresh cut flowers at the foot of the statue of our “Blessed Virgin Mary”. These fresh cut flowers were often arranged in a beautiful bouquet of roses and gladiolus, which were her specialty.

Virginia lived her whole life in the Elmo community. She was loved by many for her warmth and kindness. She would lend a helping hand to anyone and knew no strangers. Her 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as “Chicken Grandma,” adored her and enjoyed their days with her while she taught them to needlepoint, play piano and bake pies (her coconut cream pie was over the top). Perhaps her best passed-on skill, from the tales of her grandchildren, was how to properly gather chicken eggs while warding off hostile poultry.

As if raising nine kids wasn’t enough to keep her busy, Virginia also worked outside of the home. She started her career as the counter manager of the Elmo Elevator, followed by secretarial work at Tabor College, and wrapping up her career at the Salina Catholic Diocese Office of Education. Virginia was a member of the St. Columba Altar Society.

Virginia will be greatly missed by many and will never be forgotten.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Anderes; father and mother, James and Leona Baier; two sisters, Catherine Baier and Marilyn Anderes; and two brothers, James and Wayne Baier.

Virginia’s celebration of life will be a private ceremony with family members only at St. Columba Catholic church, Elmo, Kansas, followed by her interment at the Mount Calvary cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to attend the funeral procession to the burial site. We ask everyone to be mindful of proper social distancing. Anyone wishing to sign the register book may do so from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Doris (Linder) Hoover, 88, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2020 in Abilene, KS. Doris was born January 7, 1932 in Solomon, Kansas, one of 4 children born to parents Edith (Palzer) and John Raby Brown.

She was united in marriage to Raymond Linder, August 14, 1949. She is survived by their 4 children: Kathy Renner, Fulton MO; Judy Terry, Houston, AL; Vicky Miller and Max Linder, Enterprise, KS and their spouses; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Beau Miller; husbands, Ray Linder, Homer Jury, Earl Kuntz, Lowell Hoover; her parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother.

Doris worked for Duckwall’s Stores General Office, Graves Truckline and the Santa Fe Railroad.

Doris and Ray opened their home to many people including her brother’s four children, her sister’s four children and friends of their own children. She was a 4-H Leader, taught Sunday School for most of her life, worked in the church bus ministry and Child Evangelism as well as being active in the Gideons.

Doris chose cremation. The funeral will be held at a later date with her final resting place to be in the First Baptist Cemetery, Hope, KS.

LaVerne Mae Terres, 86, of Abilene, died Thursday, April 30, 2020 in Abilene. She was born Oct. 6, 1933, in Baldwin, KS, the daughter of E. W. (Bill) and Hazel Deskins.

Lloyd “Pork” Dean Springer, 82, of Wamego, KS, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. He was born January 13, 1938 to Lloyd and Margaret (Brickei) Springer in Ogden, KS. He attended schools in Westmoreland, KS, graduating from Westmoreland High School in 1956. After high school, Pork enlisted into the United States Air Force, where he spent 4 years as a Radar Tech. He received his honorable discharge in 1960.

After his time in the military, he went to work for the Corps of Engineers, worked construction with his dad, and spent 25 years working for Skell Gas. Following his retirement from Skell Gas, Pork became the best bartender that Route 99 Bar and Grill in Louisville, KS had.

He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and fishing. Pork took great pride in his yard and garden. You could often find Pork driving his lawn tractor around his property just checking things out. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church of Wamego, and Knights of Columbus.

Pork married Linda Moody, having three children together and were later divorced. On May 15, 1999, he married Tammy Latta at the Oregon Trail Nature Park in Belvue, KS. She survives at their home in Wamego.

His survivors include his wife Tammy Springer; three children: Diane Wilcox (Kevin, Tammie Weeks, and Brian Springer; 5 grandchildren: Frank Weeks, Maggie Lundberg, Chelsea Darroch, Cody Springer and Marina Springer; 8 great grandchildren; his 4 sisters: Carol Vonderschmidt (Bill, Judy Ronnebaum (Ralph, Sharon Baker, and Bonnie Springer; his mother and father in-law, Joe and Kate Latta; a sister in-law, Robin Knoblauch (Chris, a brother in-law, Quentin Latta (Lisa); his niece, Jake Knoblauch; a great-nephew, Cohen “PeeWee” TenEyck; and many nieces, nephews, and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Boncilla Jean “Jeanie” Lowry, 74, of Wamego, KS passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020 at the Wellsprings of Westmoreland care home.

On February 1, 1946, Jeanie, was born to Dick and Bonnie Smith of Wamego. Jeanie grew up on a small farm north of town where she spent most of her time reading books. She attended elementary school in Louisville and graduated from Wamego High School with the class of 1964. After graduation Jeanie went on to attend Emporia State University, where she received her teaching degree. She would go on to have a 33-year teaching career; 31 within the USD 320 school District, most of which were teaching 3rd grade at Central Elementary. After retiring in 2001, Jeanie opened Granny J’s Daycare in her home, where she continued to look after and teach youngsters until the point that Alzheimer’s would no longer allow in 2015.

&nbsp; Jeanie married Alan Hill in August of 1968, having three children together and were later divorced. On December 24, 1986, she and Floyd Lowry were married in Westmoreland, Ks. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1991.

Jeanie was an avid reader, with her ability to speed read it was not uncommon for her to finish five or more books a week. She loved to cross stitch and usually had multiple pieces at varying levels of completion, but rest assured that if you were in her life, she was working on a cross stitch just for you.

She is survived by her brother Ric Smith (Joyce, Wamego, KS; three children, Lorren Hill (Jill, Wamego, KS, Michelle Kennedy (Jim, Wamego, KS, and Jeff Hill (Kim, Gardnerville, NV; seven grandchildren, Taylor Hill, Ashley Hill, Weston Hill, Madison Hill, Austin Kennedy, McKayla Kennedy and Jayden Shaw; two nieces, Christine Oxner and Stephanie Smith; and one nephew, Scott Smith.

She is also preceded in death by her mother, Bonnie Smith, in 2012 and her father, Dick Smith, earlier this year.

Private family services will be held on Saturday, May 9th, 2020 at the Wabaunsee Cemetery near Wabaunsee. Ann was born in Frankfort, KS, but grew up in Russell, KS. It was there that Ann made her musical debut at age two, singing "Jesus Loves Me" for a church picnic from the back of a pickup truck. After graduating from Russell High School in 1946, Ann pursued her love of singing at the University of Kansas, where she joined Alpha Chi Omega sorority and graduated with a BA degree in music education.

She sang big band music with Keg Morehead's 10-piece dance band, capturing the attention of a young veteran in KU's pharmacy school, Pat Dunne. They married in 1950 and moved to Manhattan, where Ann raised three children, substituted for the public schools, and gave private vocal music lessons. She continued to perform in programs for church, Civic Music Club and High Tempo Capers.

Ann Dunne was deeply involved in her Christian faith. She sang in church choirs all her life. She served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Isidore Catholic Church and as a cantor at St. Thomas More. She often led worship at Aglow, a Christian women's group, and she also led various Bible studies. She loved sharing the love of Jesus with everyone.

Ann enjoyed being with her friends and playing golf. She and Pat belonged to Manhattan Country Club for many years. On separate occasions, she made two holes in one.

Ann Dunne is survived by her daughter, Karen Dunne Solini ; her son Michael Dunne; her son Patrick Dunne; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Private Graveside Services will be at a future date in the Sunset Cemetery, Manhattan, Kansas. Any additional Service information will be released later by the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Carolyn Warner Seyler, of Manhattan, died Friday, April 24 after a long illness.

Born in Manhattan in 1942, she was the daughter of Lucille Morton Warner and E.D. “Gene” Warner. Her mother, three aunts, and an uncle were school teachers. She was raised in a family that prized education and learning.

Her educational career was completed in its entirety in Kansas public educational institutions, of which she was a proud and active supporter. After graduating from Manhattan High School (Class of 1960) she earned her Bachelor of Science (Elementary Education) and Master of Science (Curriculum and Instruction) from Kansas State University.

Mrs. Seyler was a second-grade teacher in Torrance, CA; Manhattan, KS (Bluemont Elementary); and Ellettsville, IN.

She was united in marriage with H.L. “Sy” Seyler in Lancaster, CA on August 14, 1965. Their happy partnership produced one son, Lynn.

Mrs. Seyler left her teaching career to be a homemaker. In later years, she maintained a busy schedule as a caregiver for her parents, several neighbors, friends, and relatives. She often said that being a caregiver had never been a part of her plans, but “if not me, who?” Her love, energy, and dedication in this vocation was a wonder to all who knew her.

For a time, she consulted with the College of Education at KSU on evaluating and supporting student teachers. Mrs. Seyler was a proud member of Chapter GU of PEO, and was active in the KSU Social Club.

Some of her closest friendships coalesced into an informal group called “the Birthday Girls,” who met regularly for lunch, conversation, and mutual support. For the past 20 years, she spent the summer months in the Eastern Sierra of California, where she entertained many loved ones. Time spent with family, friends, books, good coffee, and good wine were the simple pleasures that animated her.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, of the home; her son, daughter-in-law, (Cristina) and two grandchildren, (Garrett and Colleen) all of Overland Park, KS.

A private interment will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Manhattan Public Library Foundation and may be left in care of Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.

Willard Lane Hodges, 66, of St. George, Kansas, died Thursday, April 30, 2020, at Via Christi Hospital in&nbsp;Manhattan. &nbsp;He was a lifelong resident of the community.

Willard was born March 29, 1954, in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Loran and Irene Ward Hodges. &nbsp;He attended local schools and graduated in 1972 from St. George High School, where he was a champion pole vaulter.

Willard was a union iron worker and welder. &nbsp;He worked many years on the family farm as well as in the construction industry in Kansas, Texas, and Colorado.

Willard was a jack of all trades, was known for his ability to fix and drive fast cars, and was always tinkering and working on some project. &nbsp;He was an artist and excellent cook. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and riding four wheelers and motorcycles. His greatest passion was the time he could spend with his grandchildren. Willard had many friends, was outgoing and sociable. He will be greatly missed.

Willard married Barbara Drown. &nbsp;Two children were born of this union. They were later divorced. &nbsp;He then married Janelle Norris with a daughter born of this union. They were also later divorced. &nbsp; On December 15, 1989, Willard married Jeanette Volpert in Fort Collins, Colorado at which time he gained an additional daughter and five sons were born of this union. She survives at their home in St.George, Kansas.

Mary Yvonne Rice 83, of White City passed away May 1, 2020 at Morris County Hospital, Council Grove.&nbsp; She was born December 12, 1936 in St. Charles, Missouri to Joe and Lavaun Gieber. She grew up in Ogden, KS and attended Lucky High School in Manhattan, KS.&nbsp; She worked at the PX on Fort Riley where she met and later married William “Bill” Rice.&nbsp; They were married January 15, 1955 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ogden, KS.

She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much.&nbsp; They loved to travel and share trips with their grandchildren.&nbsp; She loved the lake, bowling, attending school activities, a good card game and family get togethers.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years Bill, daughter Jamie Schmidt and husband Tracy, sons Billy and wife Annette, Rusty and wife Ilona, all of White City. Freddie (Fred) Harold Epperson, 87, was called to Heaven April 28, 2020, surrounded by family, in his Marion, Kansas home.

Fred was born to Flora Epperson (Gaugh) and Ed Epperson on April 14, 1933 in Clarksville, Arkansas.

Fred enlisted with the United States Army at the age of 16, and then by the age of 17 was on a ship to Korea where he served 22 months in the war and was a decorated soldier. In 1954, he married his sweetheart, Bertha and together they had 3 children. &nbsp;Through much of his adult life, he was employed with Love Box Company in Wichita, Kansas for more than 25 years. His career began as a truck driver, and he was then promoted to the position of logistics and manager of all Love Box transportations companywide across several plant locations. Fred very much enjoyed the outdoors, in fact, he was well known for having the most fantastic garden with an abundance of tomatoes, cucumbers, and green peppers. He had a love for all types of animals, especially his cats, Gidget and Buster who kept him company after the passing of his sweetheart in 2018. &nbsp;He and his wife enjoyed spending time outdoors together, where they would take motorcycle rides and camping trips to Table Rock Lake and nearby lakes.

He is survived by his children, Harold (Kim) Epperson, David (Susan) Epperson, Charlotte (Chris) Coleman, brother Jimmy (Maria) Balentine, and sister Carolyn (Don) Simpson; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Bertha Epperson, his brothers, Leroy Epperson and Everett (Bud) Epperson and sister, Charlotte Baskin.

She attended Lincoln High School and after her graduation, she earned an associates degree in the personal care services. She then moved to Junction City, Kansas, and became an independent business owner. She owned and operated a barber shop and liquor store. Bernice had also contracted with Fort Riley to be a barber for soldiers.

She enjoyed gardening and fashion and was a member of Ward AME Chapel of Junction City.

Bernice is survived by her loving family: her sister, Lee Gilmore of Dallas, TX; her close family friends, Freddie and wife Cassandra Edwards of Junction City, KS, and Patricia McDonald of Junction City, KS; many nieces and nephews; and a host of loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Annie Dennis and Ophelia Furlow, Flora Smith, and her brother, J.W. Dennis.

Ronald L. Rairden, 64, of Junction City, died Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at Geary Community Hospital. Ron was born March 21, 1956 in Leavenworth, the son of Henry Lee and Shirley A. (Werner) Rairden. The family moved to Junction City, and later to Clyde, where Ron graduated from high school.

Ron went through restaurant management training with the McDonald's Corp., and later managed the McDonald's Restaurant on 6th Street in Junction City for many years. He later joined the Denny's Restaurant Corp. and managed the Denny's in Junction City for 12 years.

Ron married Joan Potter on March 23, 1974 in Clyde. Joan survives of the home.

Survivors include: Joan, Junction City; 2 sons, Ronny Rairden and Arthur Rairden, both of Junction City; a daughter, Rachel Kinsland and her husband Travis, Junction City; 4 sisters, Penny Baustian, Cheryl Foxx, both of Leavenworth, Sheila O'Neill, and Dee Willyard, both of Winchester; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great granddaughters. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, William S. Rairden.

It was Ron's wish to be cremated and that there be no services.

Wayne was born June 24, 1935, in Stockton, KS, the son of Tom and Zora Dishman.

Wayne graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1954. Wayne worked for Graves Truck Lines for many years prior to his retirement. Before working for Graves Truck Lines, he played baseball for the Junction City Hawks as a pitcher. His nickname was "Lefty". At one time, Wayne and several other area players had the opportunity to try out for the Kansas City A's. Unfortunately, travel arrangements didn't allow them to make the trip.

On June 24, 2005, on his birthday, they dedicated the Wayne Dishman Field at Field One at North Park in Junction City. In 2012, he was inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame for the Distinguished Kansas Sportsman Award. Wayne was involved in youth baseball for over 60 years in our community. He patiently encouraged many young players. Wayne was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers fan as well as an avid KU fan.

Survivors include his wife Ruth (Cameron) Dishman; two sons, Mike Dishman and Jeff Dishman all of Junction City. KS and seven grandchildren, Brandon, Derrick, Austin, Darin, Amber, Maddy and Gage and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Darrel, Lymon and Don; one sister, Matie Dishman-Northrup and one granddaughter Tiffany Canaday..

He was born on February 25, 1941, in Franklin, Louisiana, and he never slowed down. His wonderful parents, William Thomas “Bill Tom” Aron, Sr., and Mattie Cornelia (Pratt) Aron, were in Heaven waiting for him along with his little brother, Joe Edward Aron. We assume they are lighting things on fire and blowing stuff up like in the old days. It’s safe to assume he’s up there fixing something. Grandson Tommy Trotter was waiting to show him the fishing spots.

Bill didn’t want to, but leaves behind the love of his life, Mary Ellen (Lilly) Aron. Married for 60 years, he was a lucky man because no one else would have put up with him for that long.

Bill also leaves behind a smart-mouthed daughter, Shai Trotter; her husband, John Trotter; grandchildren Nicole Beck, Jessica and Joe Ehrlich with daughter Nora, Jason Beck, Jr., and Lewis Trotter.

He is also survived by his book-loving, sword-swinging son, Kenneth Aron; Kenny’s wife, Becky Aron; grandchildren Keith Aron, Kenton Aron, Chris and Kamella Garrison with children Kaleigh, Piper, and Fisher, and Morgan and Amanda Garrison with children Sean, Kenslie, Ellie, and Tristan.

To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he will always be Papaw.

Bill enjoyed two successful careers, first in the military and then working in information technology. He attended numerous schools while in the military and later took courses and earned certifications in IT.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1958 at 17 years old. He spent four years as an avionics repair technician, working on everything from jet fighters to DC-3 transports. His time working with aircraft inspired him to be a pilot, but his imperfect eyesight prevented him from flying as a Marine. After earning his GED, spending a year in Atsugi, Japan fixing Marine aircraft and earning the rank of Lance Corporal, Bill separated from the Marine Corps and enlisted in the US Army.

The Army was sufficiently desperate for helicopter pilots in Vietnam that they accepted flight school applicants with corrected 20/20 vision, which now qualified Bill as an applicant. As an enlisted soldier his path would take him to Warrant School, but to qualify for that path he first had to enlist and serve a term in Vietnam as a foot soldier, where he earned his first Bronze Star with V for combat valor.

After Bill’s first tour in Vietnam, he was accepted into Warrant Officer School and then to Helicopter Flight School where he graduated #3 in his class. He was offered a direct commission, which he declined to focus on flying. He returned to Vietnam as a Huey pilot and repair specialist. He repaired helicopters at night and flew around the country recovering downed helicopters during the day. This role put him near multiple combat actions where he recovered downed air crews, medevac’d casualties, and assisted combat missions. These mission assists earned him two additional Bronze Stars with valor, the Air Medal, the ARCOM (Army Commendation Medal, and the Distinguished Flying Cross, which he earned on a rescue mission under heavy fire that killed his copilot seated next to him and also qualified him for the Purple Heart, which he refused. Until recently, he considered this the worst day of his life. After Vietnam, he continued to fly helicopters, traveling around the USA and the world supporting Army Aviation Maintenance. This was a high-risk job recovering broken aircraft and test flying newly repaired aircraft to qualify them for return to the line companies. Chief Warrant Officer William T. Aron, Jr., retired from military service in 1988. A few months after retiring, he had the honor of commissioning his son, Kenneth, upon graduation from Army ROTC at Kansas State University. By retirement he had added two additional ARCOMs, three MSMs (Meritorious Service Medals) and Master Aviator wings. He wore the Valorous Unit Award for his combat tour with the 1st Infantry Division and the Air Medal with a ‘20’ device.

After retirement, he spent two years in school earning CNE, CNA, and EWCNA certifications in Information Technology. He served as a Network Administrator for Salina Office Systems (SOS) and then as Chief Information Officer for the Kansas Highway Patrol until his retirement in 2003.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Abilene First Christian Church. Interment will follow in the Abilene Cemetery. Marie Antoinette Friedrich, age 73 of Randolph, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House.



She was born on May 21, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of Aubrey Earl “Pat” and Wilma (Suebert) Adkins

On February 16, 1991, she married Carl Friedrich.

Marie held many jobs during her lifetime.  She was an assembly worker for Texas Instruments and Q-Tronics, waitressed at a number of restaurants and retired as the office manager for Charlton-Manley Insurance Company.&nbsp;  She enjoyed reading and watching basketball, especially the KU Jayhawks.



She is survived by her husband, Carl Friedrich of Randolph; one son, Patrick Friedrich and wife Aubrey of Eudora; one grandson, Landen of Eudora; one daughter, Teri Sewell; one aunt, Marie “Boo” Eccard of Maryland and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Patsy Streckfus.



Cremation is planned with a celebration of her life to be held at a later date.  The Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

A memorial has been established for the Randolph Car Club.&nbsp; Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Junior E. Jeffrey, age 89, of Salina, formerly of Solomon, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2020 at his home in Salina.

He was born November 16, 1930 in Manchester, Kansas the son of Earl E. and Thelma A. (Gasswint) Jeffrey. Following high school Junior served his country in the United States Marine Corps.

Junior was a master electrician for several years working for various companies and then had his own company called Jeffrey Electric. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

On April 18, 1953 Junior was married to Charlotte Lane in Minneapolis. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his daughters Cindy Jeffrey of Salina, Jennifer Jeffrey of Salina, Marcia Jeffrey of Salina, Wendy Jeffrey of Abilene; sons Billy Jeffrey of Abilene, Curtis Jeffrey of Salina, Douglas and his wife Twila of Enterprise; brothers Clyde Jeffrey of Wichita, Jim Jeffrey of Raiford, Florida; 21 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert and sister Marge Isaac.
