Benjamin Michael Minson, age 47, passed away October 31, 2023 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, KS. He was born to Gary and Joyce Minson on October 30, 1976 in Independence, MO. He grew up in northern Minnesota with his parents and siblings.

Ben had a passion for US history and instilled this love in all his siblings, often challenging them with “Do you know what happened on this day…?” He loved and was proud of his faith, his family and his country. Rarely would he be seen without a bold red, white and blue statement in his attire. His interests also included puzzles, trivia, old westerns, travel and all things Man in Black. Ronald Reagan, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Johnny Cash and John Waynewere just a handful of hero’s Ben revered. He was an avid reader with a tendency towards biographies and of course history. You could often find him at the Eisenhower museum enjoying the most recent display or giving guided tours to visiting family and friends. It is the firm and uncontested opinion of his family, that while the grief is currently all consuming, Ben was ours, making us the lucky ones. Ben was known around the Abilene community as the man with the gentle smile. Ben worked and was a part of the Abilene Country Mart family for 16+ years. He loved being at work and socializing with everyone that he met. So much so, that no one was a stranger to him. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, the Eisenhower Foundation and the Reagan Ranch Center.

Ben is survived by his parents Gary and Joyce of Abilene, along with a multitude of siblings: Mia (Scott) Thompson of Hesperus, CO; Luke (LeeEllen) Minson of Shepherd, MT; Micah (Grace) Minson of Liberty, MO; Caleb Minson of Billings, MT; Elisabeth (Connor) Kijowski of Salt Lake City, UT; Andrew Minson of Omaha, NE; Jacob Minson of Abilene and 9 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Hannah and Lisa.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 2nd from 5:00– 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, November 3rd at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Joseph Barlau officiating. Peggy Rae TenEyck, 87, of Alma, Kansas, died Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was a life-long resident of the area.

Peggy was born on December 30, 1935, in Wamego, Kansas, the daughter of Lester and Florence (Little) Marten. &nbsp;She attended local grade school and graduated in 1954, from Alma High School. &nbsp;She attended business school and was a Certified Med and Nurse’s Aide.

Peggy worked for over twenty years for Wabaunsee County as a secretary, first in the Health Department and then for the Road and Bridge Department. &nbsp;Prior to working for the county, Peggy worked twenty years at the Alma Manor. &nbsp;She also was the cook at a couple local restaurants. &nbsp;She loved to cook, and no one ever left her home hungry. &nbsp;Her grandchildren knew there would always be dessert and she was known for her cinnamon rolls. &nbsp;Peggy enjoyed camping and loved the times the family spent at the Council Grove Lake. &nbsp;Peggy was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta Vista, but usually attended Redeemer Lutheran Mission at Lake Wabaunsee.

Peggy married Harold “Jupe” TenEyck on September 3, 1974, in Alma. &nbsp;After spending forty-nine years of their lives together, Jupe survives at their home.

Peggy is also survived by her children; Jennifer Savage (David), Alma, and Travis TenEyck (Joyce), Wamego; her grandchildren, Jessica Tennis (Tristan), Alma, Josie Griego (Marco), Norman, Oklahoma, Jordyn Giberti (Kirill), Ft. Liberty, North Carolina, Clara Carter, Alma, Maggie Ritter, Texas, Gerrit TenEyck, Wamego, Buzzy Johnson, Alma, and Rayann Johnson, Topeka; her great-grandchildren, Collison, Porter, Fisher, Chandler, Matthew, and Addie; as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. &nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Buzz Johnson, and her brother Gerald “Cheese” Marten.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church in Alma. &nbsp;Reverend John Fries will be officiating. &nbsp;The family will greet friends on Monday, at the church, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. &nbsp;They suggest memorial contributions to Redeemer Lutheran Mission, and those may be sent in care of Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Merti O. (Miller) Richter, 64, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday (October 28, 2023) in her home after a courageous two year battle with glioblastoma.

Born December 12, 1958 in Westmoreland, Kansas, Merti was the daughter of Arthur and Frances (Heustis) Miller. &nbsp;She was a graduate of Wabaunsee High School and had worked at Rubottom Pharmacy and later as the Secretary at the Alma Grade School. &nbsp;Merti retired in 2020 from the Kansas Lottery. &nbsp;She also had a passion for photography and had photographed several weddings and many school portraits for students in Alma.

She enjoyed sewing and reading and was an avid gardener. She was known for starting many other new plants from a portion or seed from another plant. &nbsp;In February 2021, nine months prior to her diagnosis and up to the time of her surgery, Merti discovered a talent for drawing which is now believed to be related to the growth of the tumor she had.

For the last 20 years, Merti shared her life with her partner, Nick Reilly.

Survivors include her partner, Nick Reilly; a son, Brock Richter (Michele) of San Diego, CA ; a daughter, Courtney Digby (Jonathan) of Little Rock, AR; ten grandchildren, Harrison Digby, Sidney Digby, Madison Richter, Grady Richter, Isaac Reilly, Slayde Desch, Kain Reilly, Scarlett Lewis, Violett Lewis and Walker Lewis; &nbsp;two brothers, Craig Miller (Pam) of Topeka, KS &nbsp;and Brent Miller (Amy) of Alma, KS; a sister, Mimi Smith (Cletus) of Topeka, KS; a sister in law, Marie Miller of McFarland, KS; and several nieces and nephews.

Merti was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, JayDee Miller; and a sister, Darla Furrer.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning (November 4, 2023) at 10:30 a.m. at Peace United Church of Christ in Alma with Pastor Julia Gaughan officiating. &nbsp;Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery near Alma.

Marie was born March 18, 1921, in Leonardville, Kansas the daughter of Fritz Rudolph and Elizabeth Louise (Fernstrom) Peterson.&nbsp; Marie worked as an Avon Sales Representative for over fifty years. She was a member of First Christian Church, American Legion Post #45 Ladies Auxiliary and the Fraternal Order of The Eagles Lodge #830 all of Junction City, Kansas. When Marie was 91, she received the "Helping Hand Award" for donating time writing hundreds of cards and letters to Fort Riley Soldiers.

She is survived by two sons, Larry Remmers of New York, New York and Robert Landrith of Milford, Kansas; one daughter, Judy Bagley of Junction City, Kansas.Survivors include; grandchildren, Colleen, Heather and Nolan Sump, Aaron and Jarred Landrith and Sean and Jessica Spitz; three great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Remmers; two daughters, Shirley Sump and Sophia Spitz; one grandson, Ryan Remmers.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Marguerite Agnes Sharp of rural St. George passed away peacefully October 27, surrounded by family.

She was born on December 22, 1923, in Olpe KS to Henry Carl Bolz and Frances Anna Kiene Bolz. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in Olpe as Valedictorian with only 11 in her class.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She married Marvin Sharp on May 8, 1943, at St. Mary’s Chapel on Ft Riley. To this union they had 4 children. Marvin (Wayne) Sharp (Sara) Red Oak, Tx, Tom Sharp (Lany) Oakley, KS, Dennis Sharp (Janet) Holcomb and Linda Glanzer (David) St. George.

She is survived by 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 22 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and her sister-in-law Betty Sharp. She is also survived by her constant companion and much-loved dog Lucy.

Everyone in her family received handwritten cards for birthday, Christmas and Anniversary. No family or friend was ever forgotten. She was loved by SO many people.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, her five brothers Harold, Leo, Charles, Elmer and Jerome, her sister Helen Rockley and grandson Timothy Michael Sharp.

Marguerite Agnes Sharp 

Vernon Ray Kurtz who passed away at Ascension Via Christi Hospital, Manhattan, KS after a fall on October 23, 2023 will be buried at the Sumner cemetery near Alton, Kansas where his mother, Mattie Grace Lucky Kurtz, his father, Theodore Harold Kurtz, and his brother, Willis Harold Kurtz are buried.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Jo, his sons: Quentin and Bryan (Susan); Grandchildren: John Kurtz, Rebecca Kurtz (Brian Clausen) Katie Bateman (Quentin), Maegan Svita (Sam), and Lauren Kurtz (Chris Cooke); Great grandchildren: Brynnley, Claire, and Molly Quinn Bateman.

Ray was born July 12, 1933 in rural Alton, Kansas. He attended Alton city grade school, Pleasant Valley one room grade school and Alton High School. After graduating from high school in 1951, he attended Fort Hays State College and earned a BS with a major in mathematics in 1955. During Ray’s four years at Fort Hays, he lived in a professor’s basement with 3 other young men. In addition to the friendship of these young men he had friendships with young men and women in the local Hays Methodist church and members of college academic and service clubs.

On June 15, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart Mary Jo Peterson at the Mt. Ayr Friends Church near Alton, Kansas.

His first teaching position was in 1955 teaching mathematics at Osborne High School. He was called into the Army in January 1957 and did basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and then was assigned to Pine Bluff Army Chemical Corps Arsenal in Arkansas where he was a member of the “Scientific and Professional Personnel.” After his time in the Army he enrolled at Fort Hays in 1958 to work on a master’s degree. After earning that degree he taught at Gorham High School and Plainville High School where he was able to take Saturday, summer and night graduate classes at Fort Hays. He saw the importance of earning college credits which led to a position at Fort Hays in 1963. It was from this Fort Hays position that he saw the necessity of a doctor’s degree if he were to have a career teaching in higher education. At that time, he moved his family from Hays to Lincoln, Nebraska where he earned his Doctor of Education degree in 1966. Ray returned to Fort Hays to continue a teaching position. In 1970 he was hired at Kansas State University in Manhattan as an assistant professor in the College of Education. During the next 30 years he had the opportunity to advance in rank and to achieve many professional accomplishments.

It was during a National Science Foundation grant project to improve Elementary Education Mathematics, teaching a group of Shawnee Mission Kansas School District Teachers, that he met a visiting headmaster from Leicester England who invited him and the teachers to visit his school. This invitation provided the idea for the leading groups of teachers on international trips. During the following years he took 21 groups of teachers on international travel classes. His wife Mary Jo always accompanied him on these group trips. After retirement he and Mary Jo were members of travel groups to Peru in 2004 and Egypt in 2008.

Ray was proud of being editor of The Kansas Association of Teachers of Mathematics Bulletin for 21years. This position put him in contact with K-12 teachers of mathematics throughout the entire state.

Ray enjoyed being active in church attendance and church leadership. He and Mary Jo were consistent attenders each Sunday at worship services and Sunday School classes -both as teachers and members. He held numerous church leadership positions at First United Methodist Church in Manhattan, including church Lay Leader in 1971.

Ray greatly enjoyed numerous hobbies and was active in several hobby clubs.

He always kept connected to his hometown of rural Alton in Osborne County and will be interred in the local cemetery near Alton.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, October 29th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

 </figure>Vernon Ray Kurtz who passed away at Ascension Via Christi Hospital, Manhattan, KS after a fall on October 23, 2023 will be buried at the Sumner cemetery near Alton, Kansas where his mother, Mattie Grace Lucky Kurtz, his father, Theodore Harold Kurtz, and his brother, Willis Harold Kurtz are buried.He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Jo, his sons: Quentin and Bryan (Susan); Grandchildren: John Kurtz, Rebecca Kurtz (Brian Clausen) Katie Bateman (Quentin), Maegan Svita (Sam), and Lauren Kurtz (Chris Cooke); Great grandchildren: Brynnley, Claire, and Molly Quinn Bateman.Ray was born July 12, 1933 in rural Alton, Kansas. He attended Alton city grade school, Pleasant Valley one room grade school and Alton High School. After graduating from high school in 1951, he attended Fort Hays State College and earned a BS with a major in mathematics in 1955. During Ray’s four years at Fort Hays, he lived in a professor’s basement with 3 other young men. In addition to the friendship of these young men he had friendships with young men and women in the local Hays Methodist church and members of college academic and service clubs.On June 15, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart Mary Jo Peterson at the Mt. Ayr Friends Church near Alton, Kansas.His first teaching position was in 1955 teaching mathematics at Osborne High School. He was called into the Army in January 1957 and did basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and then was assigned to Pine Bluff Army Chemical Corps Arsenal in Arkansas where he was a member of the “Scientific and Professional Personnel.” After his time in the Army he enrolled at Fort Hays in 1958 to work on a master’s degree. After earning that degree he taught at Gorham High School and Plainville High School where he was able to take Saturday, summer and night graduate classes at Fort Hays. He saw the importance of earning college credits which led to a position at Fort Hays in 1963. It was from this Fort Hays position that he saw the necessity of a doctor’s degree if he were to have a career teaching in higher education. At that time, he moved his family from Hays to Lincoln, Nebraska where he earned his Doctor of Education degree in 1966. Ray returned to Fort Hays to continue a teaching position. In 1970 he was hired at Kansas State University in Manhattan as an assistant professor in the College of Education. During the next 30 years he had the opportunity to advance in rank and to achieve many professional accomplishments.It was during a National Science Foundation grant project to improve Elementary Education Mathematics, teaching a group of Shawnee Mission Kansas School District Teachers, that he met a visiting headmaster from Leicester England who invited him and the teachers to visit his school. This invitation provided the idea for the leading groups of teachers on international trips. During the following years he took 21 groups of teachers on international travel classes. His wife Mary Jo always accompanied him on these group trips. After retirement he and Mary Jo were members of travel groups to Peru in 2004 and Egypt in 2008.Ray was proud of being editor of The Kansas Association of Teachers of Mathematics Bulletin for 21years. This position put him in contact with K-12 teachers of mathematics throughout the entire state.Ray enjoyed being active in church attendance and church leadership. He and Mary Jo were consistent attenders each Sunday at worship services and Sunday School classes -both as teachers and members. He held numerous church leadership positions at First United Methodist Church in Manhattan, including church Lay Leader in 1971.Ray greatly enjoyed numerous hobbies and was active in several hobby clubs.He always kept connected to his hometown of rural Alton in Osborne County and will be interred in the local cemetery near Alton.The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, October 29th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 30th, at the First United Methodist Church, 612 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS.Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 31st, at the Sumner Cemetery in Alton, KS.Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church. Vernon Ray Kurtz 

Terri Lorraine Ritter, age 72 of Manhattan, passed away on October 30, 2023. Terri was born November 2, 1950, the oldest child of Kaye and Richard Barrett.

Following high school, Terri attended Cloud County Community College where she was a cheerleader and where she met the love of her life, Gary Ritter. They were married on June 14, 1970. Following college, Terri and Gary settled down near family and friends to farm in Norcatur, KS. There they had three children, Chris, Heath and Sabrina.

In 1986 they moved to Manhattan, which they called home for 37 years. Terri initially worked for Office World and then the Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 school district and then transitioned to stay at home mom, supporting her family in their many activities.

Terri loved sports! One of her greatest joys was watching her kids and grandkids compete in many sports including basketball, football, softball and wrestling. She was one of the biggest K-State football fans who ever lived, holding season tickets for more than 30 years and almost never missing a game. She was well known for her tailgate spread before each game. Her wardrobe was almost entirely purple and she was known as a #1 Cat fan to many.

Terri fought a long and brave battle with breast cancer followed by metastatic breast cancer and, as was her style, outlived many dire prognoses with an “I will beat this” attitude. Her spunk endeared her to many.

Terri was preceded in death by her husband, Gary, and her parents Richard and Kaye Barrett.

She is survived by her children, Chris (Crystal) Ritter of Clearwater, Heath (Marci) Ritter of Randolph and Sabrina (Chris) Ault of Belvue, four grandchildren, Megan Ritter, Brent Ritter and Alayna and Easton Ault, one brother, Richard Barrett of Wichita, lifetime friends Barb and Barry Brooks and their children Amber Norman and Farrah Brooks, along with other relatives and many friends.

The family is so appreciative of the home health aides, nurses and transportation drivers at Meadowlark Hills who treated Terri like family and provided care through her time there.

Visitation is planned on Thursday, November 2 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 3 at Sedalia Cemetery in rural Manhattan, Kansas with Rev. Kevin Larson officiating.

Diann Goodyear was born on October 2, 1956 to Joan &amp; Duane Garrett, joining her older brother Gordon, and later celebrating the completion of their family with her brother Blaine (although when Blaine married Janet, that was probably the best addition!). They all grew up together in Russell, KS.

Diann met the new boy who moved in next door in 1970. She and Ken attended K-State together and later married in 1976. The salient facts are as follows, their children were born in 1978 (Erica Krzykowski), 1980 (Phillip Goodyear), 1982 (Melissa Nickel) and 1984 (Angela Strahm). So, everyone in the family is on an even year and important events are 2 years apart. This makes birthdays and anniversaries easier to remember!

Diann loved beauty and had creative giftings seldom restricted by practicality. She sewed, painted, quilted, decorated and stitched amazing works of art. She passed that skill on to at least 2 of her 4 children (anyone who knows her family can make assumptions as to which ones they are).

Diann loved her children fiercely and adored her 13 grandchildren, currently ages three to twenty-three. Amazingly enough, the rules that governed her children’s lives were never to be used in relation to her grandchildren!

Diann became ill with Multiple Systems Atrophy (MSA) approximately 6 years ago. She persevered and continued to express herself through beautiful projects and spending quality time with Ken, her children and grandchildren. Diann loved Jesus and had complete confidence about going to heaven. It was our privilege (and sometimes challenge) to care for our wife/mom for the last 6 years. She was well loved and will be very missed.

Diann’s family will greet friends during a visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. Saturday November 5, 2023 at Faith Manhattan Church, 1921 Barnes Road in Manhattan. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday November 5, 2023 at the Faith Manhattan Church. Following the service, a reception will be held and Diann will be laid to rest at the Ashland Cemetery, south of Manhattan, at 12:30p.m. Saturday.

Janice E. Kleinsorge, 82, of Enterprise passed away October 25th 2023 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. Janice was born August 3, 1941 the daughter of Harold and Mildred Houlton in Abilene, KS.Janice was a graduate of Abilene high school. Janice lived in Colorado for many years and was a project manager and office manager for the home weatherization program for the State of Colorado. Later in life Janice married George Kleinsorge Jr. and returned to Enterprise to make their home.

Janice is survived by her husband George of the home. Daughters Kim Riffel and husband Terry of rural Enterprise, Brenda Ehrhart and husband Mark of Omaha Nebraska. Sons Roger Kelley and wife Becky of rural Chapman and Mark Kelley and wife Wanda of Charlston South Carolina. Step Children Dawn Washborn husband Jason of Zuric Kansas, John Kleinsorge of New York and Robert (Bo) Kleinsorge wife Julie of Colby, Kansas. Janice is also survived by sisters Nancy Womochil of Abilene and Linda Houlton of Des Moines Iowa as well as nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Janice was preceeded in death by her brother Kenneth Houlton and sisters, Thelma Knopp and Phylis Fager.

Janice is remembered for her warm and bubbly personality and her kindness shown to anyone she met. A scripture service to honor Janice will be held at 2:00 p.m. November 4, 2023 at St. Michael Catholic Church 210 E. 6th Street in Chapman. Donald F. Tommer, age 81, of Waterville, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023, at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

Don was born November 27, 1941, in rural Waterville to Francis V. and Amy I (Fisher) Tommer.&nbsp; He graduated from Waterville High School in 1959, then joined the US Navy.&nbsp; He married Dixie L. Thornton in 1971.

Don was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 38 years.&nbsp; He was a member of St. Monica and St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and was also a member of Springer Post 332 of the American Legion in Waterville.

He was an avid outdoorsman loving to hunt, fish, garden, and watch birds.&nbsp; He also had a passion for collecting historical items.&nbsp; In years past he and Dixie loved to square dance and play cards.

Survivors include Don’s wife Dixie, his three children:&nbsp; Rebecca, Robert of San Diego, and Wayne of Newton, a brother, William, and wife Sandy of Silver Lake, four grandchildren:&nbsp; Phillip and wife Lauren of Manhattan, Sarah, Hayden and Kerstin, and two great grandchildren: Ella and Fisher.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2023, at St. Monica and St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Blue Rapids with Father Anthony Chendumalli as the Celebrant. Rosemary Forst will be the organist.&nbsp;Honorary Bearers are Martin and Linda Merrill.&nbsp; Inurnment with Military Honors by Springer Post 332 of the American Legion and an Honors Detail from the US Navy, will be at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Cemetery in Marysville.

Eldon E. Davis, age 91, of Blue Rapids, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Blue Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Blue Rapids.

Eldon was born on June 2, 1932, in Marysville, to Eldon and Margaret (Butler) Davis.&nbsp; He graduated from Marysville High School in 1950.&nbsp; He served in the US Navy during Korea.&nbsp; He married Beulah Farrell on July 10, 1954, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Marysville, she passed away on April 19, 1985. They had three children: Bruce, Dianne and Karen.&nbsp; He married Patricia (Yungeberg) Weiche on February 15, 1987, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Blue Rapids.&nbsp; Pat brought four more children to the family: Lori, Michelle, Robin and Glenna.&nbsp; Eldon had worked as a meat cutter for Stanley’s Hy-klas Grocery Store in Blue Rapids for years.

Eldon was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Blue Rapids and the George Bedford Post 169 of the American Legion, also in Blue Rapids.&nbsp; He coached and played softball for many years, and taught the Hunter Safety Program.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Eldon could be very funny in a stoic kind of way.&nbsp; You needed to watch out when he had a glint in his eye and he frequently had a good joke ready to tell.

Survivors include his wife Pat, his children: Dianne Davis of Waterville, Karen (Rob) Swearingen of Blue Rapids, Lori Dornbusch of Herington, Michelle Martin of Orange City, Florida, Robin (Sean) Martin of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Glenna (Kris) Beckley of Wellsville, sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

Preceding Eldon in death are his parents, his first wife Beulah, a son, Bruce Davis, two grandchildren: Alyssa Davis and Zachary Jones, a brother, Jerry Davis and a sister, Peggy Pellham.

A private family graveside service will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery, north of Blue Rapids with Father Greg Doll officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment with Military Honors by George Bedford Post 169 of the American Legion and an Honors Detail from the US Navy will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery.

They had three children: Bruce, Dianne and Karen.&nbsp; He married Patricia (Yungeberg) Weiche on February 15, 1987, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Blue Rapids.&nbsp; Pat brought four more children to the family: Lori, Michelle, Robin and Glenna.&nbsp; Eldon had worked as a meat cutter for Stanley’s Hy-klas Grocery Store in Blue Rapids for years.Eldon was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Blue Rapids and the George Bedford Post 169 of the American Legion, also in Blue Rapids.&nbsp; He coached and played softball for many years, and taught the Hunter Safety Program.&nbsp;&nbsp;Eldon could be very funny in a stoic kind of way.&nbsp; You needed to watch out when he had a glint in his eye and he frequently had a good joke ready to tell.Survivors include his wife Pat, his children: Dianne Davis of Waterville, Karen (Rob) Swearingen of Blue Rapids, Lori Dornbusch of Herington, Michelle Martin of Orange City, Florida, Robin (Sean) Martin of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Glenna (Kris) Beckley of Wellsville, sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.Preceding Eldon in death are his parents, his first wife Beulah, a son, Bruce Davis, two grandchildren: Alyssa Davis and Zachary Jones, a brother, Jerry Davis and a sister, Peggy Pellham.A private family graveside service will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery, north of Blue Rapids with Father Greg Doll officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment with Military Honors by George Bedford Post 169 of the American Legion and an Honors Detail from the US Navy will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery.Memorials are suggested to Eldon Davis Memorial, to be designated later and may be sent in care of Christie-Anderes Funeral Home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66

Betty Jones, 99, of Clay Center, Kansas, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2023. Betty was born in Auburn, NE and spent most of her early life in rural communities in Washington County before moving to Clay Center, KS where she raised her family.

In 1939, Betty married Lawrence Dodd, and together they embarked on a life of farming and building their family until Lawrence's passing in 1976. Betty's dedication to education led her to Kansas State University and Cloud County Community College, where she earned her certifications in Food Services as a Dietician. For 15 years, she served as the Food Manager at the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor, touching the lives of many with warm heart.

In 1982, Betty found love again and married Howard Jones, with whom she shared numerous adventures until his passing in 1998. Together, they served as camp hosts in the picturesque landscapes of Colorado and Wyoming for over a decade, creating cherished memories and lifelong friendships.

Betty had a passion for exploration and traveled extensively, visiting most of the states in the US and even embarking on a memorable trip to India. She found solace and creativity in quilting, a talent she generously shared with her family, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and artistry.

Betty was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church and a dedicated 4-H Leader for the Washington Headliners, inspiring the youth with her wisdom and kindness. Family meant everything to Betty, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by her daughters Opal, Sandra, Cathy, and Sharon her 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Betty will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love for family, her spunk, and her adventurous spirit. Her absence leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her legacy of love, kindness, strength, and resilience will continue to inspire generations to come.

David Allen Scripter, age 67, died at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, on October 25, 2023. He was born to Richard and Dorothy (Bemis) Scripter on June 17, 1956, in Salina, KS. David grew up in the Longford area for half of his childhood. In the 6th grade he and his family moved to Superior, NE where he graduated high school. David later attended Kearney State College and Central Community College in Hastings, NE, earning his welding certification. He married Janis “Jill” Tyree on September 24, 1976. She survives of the home. In 1990 David and Jill moved to Clay Center. &nbsp;David worked for the family business, Longford Mill Products, and then later farmed with his family. &nbsp;He began working for Hutchinson-Maywrath until 2016 when he retired. &nbsp;David enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and lawn care. Most of all he enjoyed attending his kids’ and grandkids’ activities. &nbsp;David was a current member of the First Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Elks, Old Car Nuts, and was a volunteer firefighter in Superior, NE. He is preceded in death by his father, and brothers, Donald, and Steven Scripter.&nbsp;

Blake Russell Harding-Richardson, 15, of Clay Center died on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. &nbsp;He was born October 16, 2008 in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Quinton Richardson and Amanda (Harding) Weaver.

Blake was a Freshman at Clay Center Community High School. &nbsp;He was a member of FCA in middle school and a member of the basketball team. &nbsp;He enjoyed gaming, especially on his Play Station and his PC. &nbsp;Blake always looked forward to hanging out with his friends and enjoyed bass fishing.

He was a member of the Clay Center First Presbyterian Church, where he was a member of the youth group. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jacoby; infant sisters, Nevaeh and Heaven; great grandparents, Charles and Sharon Harding and Kenneth and Mary Jane Gossen; paternal grandmother, Carrie Richardson and uncle, Michael Richardson.

Timothy Robert Lytle, 67 of Abilene passed away October 27th 2023 at his home following a 17-year valiant fight with cancer. Tim was born February 18th 1956 in Irvine California to Robert and Charlotte Lytle. His stepdad, Darrell Fletcher came into his life when he was a young boy and raised him like his own, he and his wife Mona of Groves, Texas survive. 

On October 21st 1978 Tim married Debbie Davis and to this union 3 children were born. Prior to the cancer diagnosis, Tim worked for Great Plains-Land Pride manufacturing for as a Computer Assisted Design manufacturing supervisor for more than 20 years. Tim always kept a positive outlook even during his bad days fighting cancer and cherished his family. To know Tim was to love him and nobody loved him more than his 6 grandkids and nieces and nephews.&nbsp; His grandkids, Ali, Mady, Dawsyn, Daxtyn, Penelope, and Decker brought so much joy to his life.&nbsp; Dad and Papa were his greatest titles and he wore them with pride. Some of his best times were spent camping and hunting with the boys.&nbsp; He was always seen at a sporting event for his kids either as a coach or a spectator never missing a chance to watch those he loved.&nbsp; Whether it be wrestling, softball, football, baseball, or dancing he never missed the chance to see his kids, nieces and nephews, and grandkids do what they loved.&nbsp;&nbsp;Tim didn’t know a stranger and always had a kind word or a hug for anyone he encountered.&nbsp; He made you feel special no matter who you were.&nbsp; Tim loved fiercely and with his whole heart.&nbsp; Tim and Debbie just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary and he would always take the chance to tell you how much he loved her.

Timothy Robert Lytle

Donnalee Marcene Broadfoot passed away peacefully October 27, 2023 surrounded by family in her home in Weston, Missouri after a brief illness. Marcene was born Oct 18, 1927 to E. Gail and Erma Betts in Detroit, Kansas. She graduated from Dickinson County Community High School in 1945 and, after taking the civil service exam, she moved to Manhattan, Kansas. She worked in the Alumni Office at Kansas State University across the hall from the college president, Milton Eisenhower, who enjoyed frequent visits from his brother General Ike Eisenhower. 

In 1949 Leroy Broadfoot and Marcene were married and moved to Abilene, Kansas where they raised their two daughters, Carla and Cathy. Marcene worked in the county attorney’s office and a local bank. When her daughters were in grade school she continued her education, obtaining her undergraduate and masters degrees from Kansas State University. She taught English at Abilene High School and, upon retirement, served as sorority mother for Kappa Delta, Tri-Delt and ADPi houses at Kansas State University. In 1997 Marcene moved to Weston, Missouri to be near family where she enjoyed being a part of her daughter’s retail business and was an active member of the United Methodist Church. Throughout her life Marcene was an avid reader, gardener, exemplary seamstress and cook, and she enjoyed traveling throughout North America and visiting Europe. She was a devoted grandmother and a dedicated Wildcat fan. 

Marcene was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Broadfoot, her parents, and her sisters Leone Simpson and Sandra Reiff. She is survived by her daughter Carla (Bob) Miller, Big Rapids, Michigan; daughter Cathy Murdock, Weston, Missouri; granddaughter McKenna Murdock, Los Angeles, California; nieces Vicky Simpson Packard and Robin Reiff (Steve) Brace; and nephews Cary (Connie) Simpson and Terry (Angie) Reiff.

A visitation will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 4 at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene, Kansas, with services at 2 p.m.. Graveside services will be at Prairiedale Cemetery north of Talmage.  </figure>Donnalee Marcene Broadfoot passed away peacefully October 27, 2023 surrounded by family in her home in Weston, Missouri after a brief illness. Marcene was born Oct 18, 1927 to E. Gail and Erma Betts in Detroit, Kansas. She graduated from Dickinson County Community High School in 1945 and, after taking the civil service exam, she moved to Manhattan, Kansas. She worked in the Alumni Office at Kansas State University across the hall from the college president, Milton Eisenhower, who enjoyed frequent visits from his brother General Ike Eisenhower. In 1949 Leroy Broadfoot and Marcene were married and moved to Abilene, Kansas where they raised their two daughters, Carla and Cathy. Marcene worked in the county attorney’s office and a local bank. When her daughters were in grade school she continued her education, obtaining her undergraduate and masters degrees from Kansas State University. She taught English at Abilene High School and, upon retirement, served as sorority mother for Kappa Delta, Tri-Delt and ADPi houses at Kansas State University. In 1997 Marcene moved to Weston, Missouri to be near family where she enjoyed being a part of her daughter’s retail business and was an active member of the United Methodist Church. Throughout her life Marcene was an avid reader, gardener, exemplary seamstress and cook, and she enjoyed traveling throughout North America and visiting Europe. She was a devoted grandmother and a dedicated Wildcat fan. Marcene was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Broadfoot, her parents, and her sisters Leone Simpson and Sandra Reiff. Donnalee Marcene Broadfoot

Gordon Dale Strunk was born March 24, 1928, south of Abilene, Kansas. He was welcomed into God’s arms, passing away peacefully on October 27, 2023 at home in Talmage, Kansas. He spent his boyhood years in the New Basel community, attending rural schools and graduating from Abilene High School in 1946.Upon graduation, Gordon embarked on a lifetime of work centered around agriculture, such as farming and livestock feed sales. He was a talented motor grader operator and timber logger, skills he passed on to his sons and grandsons. He retired at age 85.&nbsp;

 After retirement, he enjoyed listening to the songbirds, watching baseball and rodeo on TV, sitting on the screened porch in the summer, near the wood stove in the winter, frequent visits with neighbors, and daily afternoon refreshments. Not much of a traveler, Dickinson County was his world. As long as he could see the prairie’s horizon, that was all the vacation he needed. If you knew Gordon, you heard him sing. He sang every single day! He had a song in his heart and an appropriate one for every occasion, usually old hymns, country western, or American standards. If a song came to mind, he sang it out!As Dad to seven, fatherhood came naturally to Gordon. He guided with advice like, “we’ll know more come 4th of July,” “nothing that a little Sunday School won’t cure”, “Pay Attention!”, and often, “Put a smile on your face!”.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents Aaron and Ella, first wife Margaret, infant grandson Christopher Loftus, and his best friend and brother-in-law Delmar Curran. He is survived by DeAnne, his devoted wife of 54 years, his sister Rosella Curran, and his seven children: Kay Hoffman (Bob) of Hope, KS, Tim Strunk of Abilene KS, Max Strunk of Ft Lauderdale FL, Sue Krenger (Mike) of Oklahoma City, OK, Jan Sexton (Ted) of Abilene KS, Andy Strunk (Angie) of Abilene KS, and Sara Steppe (Dean) of Wakefield KS. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Although Gordon led a simple and modest life, his legacy is rich in kindness, rich in faith, and rich in love. A private graveside service is planned for the family. Christine Lynn “Chrissy” Swanson, age 43, of Manhattan, died October 26, 2023.

She was born January 21, 1980, in Manhattan, the daughter of David B. and Shella S. (Cooper) Surowski.

Chrissy graduated from Manhattan High School in 1998 and then earned her associate degree in nursing from Manhattan Area Technical College.

She worked as a property manager for Real Property Leaders.

Chrissy loved her dog Charlie, enjoyed collecting and polishing rocks and going for drives in her Jeep.

Survivors include her two children: Tristan Swanson and Caitlin Swanson of Manhattan; and two sisters: Katie Surowski and Laura Sapp both of Manhattan.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.. Sunday, November 5th, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home.

Thomas Dean Soder, a devoted husband of 51 years, father, and grandfather, peacefully departed this world on October 25, 2023, in Kansas City, Kansas, at the age of 76.

He was born on December 10, 1946, in Junction City, Kansas, to his proud parents, Louis Soder Jr. and Francis McHugh. Tom's journey was marked by resilience, love, and unwavering commitment.

Tom's early years saw him graduate from Manhattan High School in Kansas before being drafted into the Army in 1966. Stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, he completed Basic and Advanced Individual Training. His service to his country as a combat heavy engineer took him to the airbase of Bien Hoa, Vietnam, where he served from 1968-1969 during the Tet Offensive. Following his Service in Vietnam he was honorably discharged and returned home to Kansas. His awards include the National Defense Service Ribbon, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Tom also qualified as an Expert Rifleman on his M-16 Rifle.

In 1970, Tom's heart found its match to Nancy Soder, and their love story blossomed into a lifelong union when they married at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in 1972.

Tom's legacy endures through his beloved family: his wife, Nancy Rae Soder (Hart) of Ogden, Kansas; his sons, Sean Thomas Soder of Topeka, Kansas, and Christopher Robert Soder of Waco, Texas; and his cherished granddaughter, Ariana Cheyenne Soder of Pensacola, Florida.

For four decades, Tom dedicated himself to the Big Red One at Fort Riley, Kansas, as a skilled woodworker before retiring in 2012. A true entrepreneur, he invested in multiple properties in and around Ogden. Tom's passion for hunting with his boys, appreciation for a good deal, and his knack for mischief, shared with his lifelong and best friend Sam Royer, brought joy to his life.

Dwayne A. Nichols, age 87, of Manhattan, died October 21, 2023, at the University of Kansas Health System – St. Francis Campus in Topeka.

He was born January 7, 1936, in Mankato, Kansas, the son of George A. and Marjorie (Kyle) Nichols, and had been a Manhattan resident for 65 years.

Dwayne served in the United States Navy for four years in active duty, and then 4 years in active reserves.

Following his military service he worked for Wilbert Vault Company, and then was a fireman for the City of Manhattan for four years, and then worked for Burr Electric for several years prior to owning and operating Burr Electric for many years.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

On January 13, 1956, in Bremerton, Washington, he was married to Karen I. “Jackie” Boldt. Jackie survives of the home. Additional survivors include three children: Marcus Allen Nichols, of Manhattan, Melissa Elaine Zeller of Abilene, KS and Shanda Ann White of Manhattan; brothers and sisters: Burton Nichols of Marian, TX, Franklin Nichols of Cedar City, UT, Byron Nichols of Universal City, TX, and Margaret Elaine Nichols of Marian, TX; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, his friend and longtime caregiver Debi Plummer and her daughter Susie Oliveria; and he was loved by 11 nieces and eight nephews.

Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents; one son Jonathan George Nichols and by two sisters: Barbara Nolf and Kathy Lewis.

Private family graveside service were held at Carnahan Creek Cemetery with Pastor Mark Roberts officiating.
