1st SGT Wilbur "Bill" Smith Sr., 80, passed away on April 7, 2023, with 
family by his side.  Born in Carol, Maine, to Percy and Gertrude 
(Robinson) Smith. 

He was drafted in to the Army where he served 2 years
 in Korea after returning home he got out of the Army realizing his love
 for his country, re-enlisted to serve a total of 24 years active duty. 
Time served in various stations across Europe, retiring as a 1st SGT. 
After his military retirement, he worked civil service for 15 years. 
Then moved onto managing the American Legion in Greenleaf, Kansas. He 
was an amazing cook and baker. He believed in duty first. He loved his
 country and his family. He enjoyed bowling with two 300 (perfect) 
games, working on vehicles, hunting, fishing, and never passed up a game
 of cards. 
Wilbur is preceded in death by his parents: brothers; Vernon, Randloph 
and Edward: sisters; Helen Shedd, Mary Phurde: step son: Mario Madrid: 
grandson; Garrit Wayne Smith; and many nieces and nephews. 
Survivors include his wife, Gloria: Son; Wilbur (Bill) Smith Jr.: 
daughter; Karen Burkholder (Donnie): stepsons; Joe Madrid (Jeanine) and 
Vincent: grandchildren; Jackie, Jessica, Talia, Kody, Dee, Chelsolyn, 
Vicente and Lorissa.

Allen Herbert Wood, age 84 of Wakefield, passed away Friday March 17, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Abilene.

He was born near Wakefield, Kansas, on October 21, 1938, to Horace 
William Wood and Pauline Leticia (Vanderwilt) Wood.&nbsp; His older sister 
was Nelva (Wood) Peck of Sapulpa, Oklahoma.&nbsp; His younger sister was 
Carol (Wood) Ebert of Wamego, Kansas.&nbsp;

Allen’s parents and sisters preceded him in death.&nbsp;

He attended grade school at Sunny Slope Country School, a one room 
school, in rural Clay County near Wakefield. He graduated from High 
School in 1956 from Wakefield High School.&nbsp; He attended one year of 
college at Kansas State University.&nbsp;

On September 5, 1958, he married Arlene Louise Berry, who died on 
August 6, 2019.&nbsp; They had four children:&nbsp; Mark Allen (Lucy) of Colby, 
Kansas; David Benton (Becky) of Cody, Wyoming; Lori Sue Wood of Junction
 City, Kansas; and Amanda Lynne Fitzgeralds (Troy) of Abilene, Kansas.&nbsp; 
Allen and Arlene had twelve grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Except for managing Sanborn Lumber Company in the mid-1960’s, Allen 
was a farmer all his life.&nbsp; He raised cattle and produced wheat, corn, 
soybeans, and livestock feed.&nbsp; He was a talented, self- taught, mechanic
 and fabricator.&nbsp; He enjoyed hunting especially in Wyoming.&nbsp; Allen 
enjoyed collecting firearms, shooting targets, and reloading shells.&nbsp; 
For the holidays, he enjoyed making cranberry relish to share with 
family and friends.&nbsp; Allen owned many dogs in his life, but a border 
collie named Ginger was his last and most loved one.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Memorial Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22nd, at the Milford Congregational Church with Pastor Dirk Westerman officiating.

Memorials may be made to the National Rifle Association (NRA) or the 
Milford Congregational Church and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley 
Funeral Home.

Rodney L. Leslie, 80, of Manhattan, passed away late on Tuesday,
 March 28th, 2023, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

Rodney
 Lee Leslie was born in Elkhart, Indiana on September 17, 1942, the son 
of the late Phyllis and Robert Leslie. He graduated from Elkhart High 
School. After graduation, he served in the US Army and retired as an E8 
working in Military Intelligence, and as a Correction officer for Riley 
County Law Enforcement, Manhattan, Kansas for over 22 years.

In
 1966, he was joined in marriage to Rose Earline Garretson and their 
marriage lasted for 56 years. They were married at the Defense Language 
Institute, &nbsp;Presidio of Monterey, California, formerly Ft. Ord.

Rodney
 is survived by his wife, Rose of their home; a daughter, Corinsa Leeann
 Keehn, of Lubbock, Texas; son, Ron Leslie, of Kansas City, Kansas; and 8
 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. &nbsp;Rod is preceded in death by 
his parents.

A graveside service will be held April 14,
 2023, at 2:00 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery.&nbsp;In lieu of flowers,

Gerald W. Parrick

Betty (Schobinger) Mickelson passed away from this Earthly life on 
Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Eventide Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo, 
ND. She was 89 years old. Betty Ann Elaine Davis was born on 
August 14, 1933, in Lisbon, ND, to parents Lawrence and Lela (Suhumskie)
 Davis, as the 7th of 8 children. At the age of 6 months old, her family
 was traveling to the funeral of her paternal grandmother when their car
 was struck, killing her father, Lawrence, and a brother, Neale. 
Following the accident, her family continued to live in Lisbon for a few
 years until moving to Fargo, ND. She attended school in the Fargo 
Public School system. On November 8, 1953, she married Robert 
E. Schobinger in Fargo, ND. Her primary focus was that of a Mom and 
housewife, caring for and raising their family of 7 children. She also 
helped in providing for the family by using her seamstress skills 
alongside her husband Bob in their business-B &amp; B Upholstery. 
Together, they also began selling Watkins Quality Products from their 
home. Their Watkins business became very successful, turning into a 
Distributorship. They were honored at a National Award Ceremony as 
the 3rd Largest Distributor in the nation for Group Sales in 1980. 
Shortly after this recognition, her husband, Bob, died unexpectedly in 
1981. On April 16, 1982, she married Wallace (Wally) Toso in 
Fargo, ND. In 1984, they purchased and ran Birchmere Family Resort on 
Little Toad Lake near Frazee, MN. They enjoyed many summers at the 
resort and began spending winters as snowbirds in the Phoenix, AZ area. 
Wally passed away in 1991. In the fall of 2009, Betty was 
re-introduced to A. G. "Mike" Mickelson. The two of them had originally 
met in 1949 at a rural Fargo Dance Hall and had dated for a few months 
before separating. They both parted their ways, marrying others and 
raising their families without knowing where the other had gone. After 
60 years apart, Betty and Mike rekindled their friendship and love and 
were married on November 18, 2009. They spent many winters in the Mesa, 
AZ area, and summers in Fargo. Mike preceded her in death in September 
2022. Betty is survived by her children, Lee (Judy) 
Schobinger, Sheldon, ND, Gail (Mounty) West, Peoria, AZ, Meri (Curtis) 
Thompson, Manhattan, KS, Susan (Rick) Meyer, Hiawatha, IA, and Robbie 
(Mavis) Schobinger, Oxbow, ND; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren;
 and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death 
by her parents, Lawrence &amp; Lela; her 7 siblings, Arlo Davis, 
Lorraine Scott, Dean Davis, Dale Davis (died in infancy), Neale Davis,

Her husband of 61 years, Gary, survives of the home. A daughter, Erin
 Strahm (Greg), and a son, Paul Murrison (Christi) also survives, four 
grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

on Monday, March 20, 2023, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. 
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service with full military honors
 will take place Friday, June 2, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Kansas Veteran's 
Cemetery with Will Ravenstein officiating.

 N. Santa Fe Ave., Salina, Kansas 67401 or to the Shriners Hospitals for
 Children located at 4400 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, Missouri 63110. George
 served in the United States Army until retirement. After retiring from 
the service he went on to join the Barton County Community Troop School 
on Fort Riley, where he taught for several years. He enjoyed riding his 
motorcycle, hunting, and fishing. George had many interests and was 
apart of several organizations to include: The American Legion Post #45,
 The Fraternal Order of Eagles, and The Junction City Elks Lodge #1037. On
 September 28, 1996, he went on to marry the love of his life, Elsie J. 
"Ellie" Hite; George and Ellie married in Junction City where they 
remained. Survivors include his loving wife Ellie of Junction 
City, Kansas; two brothers, Keith (Noel) Bowman of Hutchinson, Kansas, 
and Sam (Jeanette) Ebey of Virginia; one sister, Robin (Todd) Burkhead 
of Maryland, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in 
death by his parents, George Bowman, Sr., and Grace Ebey; step-parents,

CSM (RET) George S. Bowman Jr.

L. Jon McManis passed away April 2, 2023, in Allen, Texas at the age 
of 74. He was born to Alex and Helen (Ensign) McManis on April 5, 1948,&nbsp; in Manhattan, Kansas.

Jon graduated from Manhattan High School in 
1966. He attended Kansas State University. He worked as a DJ in Kansas 
and South Dakota, and as a video production engineer for TV stations in 
Kansas City. He then started his own company in 1977, Video Productions Inc., which would later become Midwest Video Inc. Jon sold the company 
in 1984, and the family moved to Dallas, and he went to work for Allied 
Film and Video. Jon changed industries and bought into a scrapyard, 
eventually running his own company, MC3 Metals Recycling and Disposal 
for the past 15 years.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda McManis;
 son, Bob McManis and wife, Elba; grandson, Jack McManis; sister, Mary 
McManis Stamey and husband, Bob; and numerous cousins, nieces, and 
nephews.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Helen McManis, and brother, Larry McManis.

A
 visitation was Friday April 7, 
2023, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. A 
memorial service will be held at a later date in Kansas.

Memorials
 may be made in his name to the Helen McManis Scholarship Fund at the 
Kansas State University Foundation or the American Cancer Society.

Kansas City. He then started his own company in 1977, Video Productions Inc., which would later become Midwest Video Inc. Jon sold the company 
in 1984, and the family moved to Dallas, and he went to work for Allied 
Film and Video. Jon changed industries and bought into a scrapyard, 
eventually running his own company, MC3 Metals Recycling and Disposal 
for the past 15 years.He is survived by his wife, Brenda McManis;
 son, Bob McManis and wife, Elba; grandson, Jack McManis; sister, Mary 
McManis Stamey and husband, Bob; and numerous cousins, nieces, and 
nephews.Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Helen McManis, and brother, Larry McManis.A
 visitation was Friday April 7, 
2023, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas. A 
memorial service will be held at a later date in Kansas.Memorials

Brent Claymore Morrill, 88, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away at home 
on April 9, 2023.  He was born on June 9, 1934, in Tridell, Utah, one of 
11 children born to Horace LeRoy Morrill and Clara Elizabeth Barrett.

Brent
 was raised in a loving family where he was taught to work hard. There 
were always chores to do including milking cows and working in the 
garden and fields.  Even though he was a child of the Great Depression, 
and electricity didn’t come into their home until he was almost six, nor
 did the family ever share a family vacation all together because no car
 was big enough for thirteen people, Brent never thought he missed out 
in life. He hiked and fished, and played marbles and jacks, and roamed 
the hills on horseback. Then with the help of his two older brothers, 
Horace and Ralph, he was able to purchased his first horse, “Shorty” 
when they returned home from serving in World War II.

In
 high school, Brent participated in FFA and raised a grand champion 
steer.  He also played basketball and football and was elected Student 
Body President of the newly consolidated Union High School in Roosevelt,
 Utah his senior year, graduating in Union’s first class in 1952.

Brent
 attended Utah State University for two years prior to being drafted 
into the United States Army.  He spent the majority of his time in 
Germany, and planned to go back to college when he returned. But, he had
 his eye on his “sweetheart” Ila Manwaring from Naples, Utah, and they 
got married six months after he returned on June 20, 1957, in the Salt 
Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He 
joined a Salt Lake City Painting Company, Bodily, Inc and painted with 
them for over 50 years, mostly on Army and Air Force bases. A project at
 Fort Riley brought them to Kansas in March of 1968 and they never left, 
making Manhattan their home and the place they raised their three 
children: Norlene, Gary, and Maria. After he put down his paint brush, 
he was far from retirement and since 2014 has worked as janitor and 
all-around handyman at Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging only leaving in 
February due to his health.

Brent was very 
active in the local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has 
served in a variety of positions including a counselor in the Bishopric,
 Scoutmaster, seminary teacher, primary teacher and priesthood leader.  
But it was finding ways to be of service to his family, neighbors, and 
friends, without them knowing, that brought him the greatest joy.

Brent
 believed in being honest with yourself and your associates, and loving 
the Lord, your family and others.  He is survived by his wife, Ila M. 
Morrill, three children Norlene (David) Gowdy of Buena Vista, Virginia, 
Gary Morrill of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, and Maria (Robert) Bailey of 
Sandy, Utah; fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-seven 
great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by two sisters, Isola Haslem, 
and Lou Ann (Norman) Angus, and one brother, Callis (Lynette).  He was 
preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Horace, Sharon, Max,
 Ralph, and Lawrence and two sisters, Clara Walhquist and Lynn Hardy.

Funeral
 services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 13th, at the Church
 of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2812 Marlatt Avenue, Manhattan, 
KS.  Interment will follow in the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort 
Riley.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. Thursday in the Relief Society Room at the church prior to the service.

Brent C. Morrill

Joseph Harvey Kejr, 64, of Brookville, Kan., passed away on Saturday,
 April 8, 2023, in his home. He was born on February 16, 1959, in Salina,
 Kan., to Harry and Rosella (Balzer) Kejr. 

On May 24, 1986, he was joined in marriage with Geena Sanneman at First Covenant Church in Salina.

Joe
 actively lived out the Fruits of the Spirit in his journey of Christian
 faith. He was passionate about serving others and over the last several
 years, enjoyed spreading God’s love to the El Cuje community in 
Guatemala. 

He was a third generation farmer, taking over Kejr 
Farms from his father, which has since expanded in scale and scope and 
now includes members of the 4th and 5th generation of the family. Joe 
served on the board of At Stake Ministries from its inception, served on
 many church committees, was a member of the Kansas Association of Wheat
 Growers, National Wheat Foundation, and served in the Kansas State 
Legislature. 

In his spare time, he loved being around family, 
traveling, restoring vehicles, creating experiences for others, hosting 
agritourism groups from all over the world, supporting sports teams, and
 taking naps on Sunday afternoon.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife 
Geena, of almost 37 years; children Robyn Bunch (Matt), of Boston, 
Mass., Josh Kejr (Brittany), of Salina, and Michelle Kejr, of Manhattan;
 grandchildren Cynthia and Gianna Kejr; siblings Steve Kejr (Carol), 
Bernice Omli, Larry Kejr (Susan), and Mel Kejr (Janet); brother-in-law 
Al Zink; mother-in-law Eloise Sanneman; sister-in-law Greta Frank 
(Jerry); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Rosalie Zink; brother-in-law John Omli; and father-in-law Warren Sanneman.&nbsp;

Visitation
 will be from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, 
with the family present from 4-6. A graveside committal service will be 
at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, April 13, at the Brookville Cemetery, followed 
by the funeral service at 11 a.m. at First Covenant Church in Salina.

Ronald S. Gross, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed 
away peacefully at his home in St. Marys, Kansas, on April 10, 2023, at 
the age of 80. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 53 years, Jane, 
who remained by his side until the end.

Ronald was born on June 29, 1942, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Joseph 
and Lorraine Gross. He spent his childhood in East Allis and graduated 
from Pius XI High School in 1961. After completing his education, Ronald
 enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in South Korea and
 Germany, where he served his country with pride.

In 1970, Ronald married the love of his life, Jane Futterlieb. 
Together, they enjoyed a happy and adventurous life, traveling across 
the United States, Canada, and Europe. Ronald worked as a truck driver 
for most of his life, primarily for Union Carbide and Praxair.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lorraine, and
 his two sons, Joseph and Christopher. He is survived by his beloved 
wife, Jane; his daughter, Marion (Charles) LeSage; daughters-in-law, 
Jeanette Gross and Katrina Gross; five grandsons and five 
granddaughters. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The Rev. James “Warren” Turner, 86, of East Peoria, Ill., passed away on Friday, 
April 7, 2023, at Liberty Village Manor Court of Peoria, Ill. 

He was born on 
February 17, 1937, in Mexico, Missouri to Elbert, Sr. and Clarissa 
(Cash) Turner. In 1958, he married Helen McVeigh; she survives. They 
divorced and on March 14, 1982 he married his wife of 41 years, Barbara 
Farquhar Williams; she survives. He is also survived by his 
children, Greg (Monika) Turner of Granger, IN and Rebecca (Dan) Dominic 
of Peoria; his stepson, Daryl (Terri) Williams of Manhattan, KS; his 
brother, Elbert (Meryldee) Turner of Agency, Mo; his sister, Chris Zogg 
of Bloomington; 9 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren, and several 
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a niece (Leslie Heckman) and a nephew (Luke Woodson). 
 Warren was raised in Missouri. He graduated from Mexico High School, 
Class of 1955. He obtained a BS in Agriculture from the University of 
Missouri, Columbia in 1959 and a Bachelors of Divinity from Missouri 
School of Religion in Columbia in 1964. In 1971, he received his Masters
 in Religious Education, also from the Missouri School of Religion. He 
was an ordained minister for the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 
and served at churches in Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, and Colorado. He 
was currently a member of the First Christian Church of Peoria. 
Warren played the guitar, mandolin and the ukelele. For 35 years, he 
sang as a baritone for many different Barbershop choruses, including the
 Pride of Peoria Barbershop Chorus. He was also an avid sportsman and 
loved to hunt. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on 
Friday, April 14, 2023, at the First Christian Church of Peoria, with 
visitation at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Rev. 
Karen Merrick will officiate. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 
a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at New Salem Cemetery in Creal

Barbara L. Agnew, 58, of Clay Center, Kansas died Thursday, April 6, 
2023, at the Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center.&nbsp; She was born on 
August 18, 1964, in Beloit, Kansas, the daughter of D Edward and Esther 
(Fobes) Walter.

Barbara grew up in Beloit, Kansas, graduating from Beloit High School
 in 1982.&nbsp; She then attended Fort Hays State University, graduating in 
1986.&nbsp; Barbara married Robert Agnew on March 21, 1992.&nbsp; She was a 
graphic designer for PETCO, Sweet Tomatoes and designed Pillow Pets for 
CJ Products.&nbsp; Barbara also did freelance graphic design and most 
recently rebranded the City of Clay Center and KCLY logos.&nbsp; She was a 
member of the Clay Center Country Club and Friends of the Clay Center 
Library. &nbsp;She is preceded in death by her parents.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Robert Agnew of Clay Center, 
Kansas; daughters, Payton Agnew of Missoula, Montana and Madison Agnew 
of San Francisco, California; sisters, Joan and husband, Jerry Orr of

1986.&nbsp; Barbara married Robert Agnew on March 21, 1992.&nbsp; She was a 
graphic designer for PETCO, Sweet Tomatoes and designed Pillow Pets for 
CJ Products.&nbsp; Barbara also did freelance graphic design and most 
recently rebranded the City of Clay Center and KCLY logos.&nbsp; She was a 
member of the Clay Center Country Club and Friends of the Clay Center 
Library. &nbsp;She is preceded in death by her parents.Barbara is survived by her husband, Robert Agnew of Clay Center, 
Kansas; daughters, Payton Agnew of Missoula, Montana and Madison Agnew 
of San Francisco, California; sisters, Joan and husband, Jerry Orr of 
Clay Center, Kansas and Donna Morrell of Beloit, Kansas and brother, Jim
 Walter of Beloit, Kansas.Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

Barbara L. Agnew

Carol Louise Greenway (Brunner), Tonganoxie, formerly of Hutchinson, 
KS passed away April 5, 2023, at age 72. Carol was born on July 29th,
 1950, to Eugene and Aliene Brunner in Fort Riley, Kansas. 

Carol was 
raised an Army “brat” and lived in Japan and Germany before moving back 
to the US. Carol graduated from Manhattan High School, class of 1968. 

In
 1968, while roller skating with some friends, Carol met her husband, 
Richard and they were married just a few short months later. They 
enjoyed 51 years together before his death in 2020. Prior to retirement,


 Carol worked as a chef and kitchen manager. Carol spent much of her 
retirement watching her grandchildren in their activities. Carol 
volunteered as a caregiver for the mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) 
through Westside Family Church. 

When her grandchildren attended Genesis 
Christian Academy, Carol volunteered often and helped every week 
preparing hot lunch. For over 50 years Carol was a member of Beta Sigma 
Phi, Lawrence, KS. She very much enjoyed socializing with friends, going
 to the casino and she could always be found cheering for her beloved KC
 Royals, Chiefs and Wildcats. 

Carol is survived by her two children, 
Richard Terry Greenway, Jr. (Candi) of The Colony, Texas, and Rhonda 
(Greenway) Overacker (Greg) of Tonganoxie, Kansas, three grandchildren, 
Gabrielle Greenway, Griffin Overacker and Carly Overacker and one 
great-grand-daughter, Isabella Grace Ruggiero. 

She was preceded in death
 by her husband of 51 years, her first grandson, Casey James Overacker, 
her mother, father, and brother, Larry Brunner. Cremation has taken 
place at her request. 

Family and friends are respectfully invited to 
attend a small funeral service, which will be held at Quisenberry

Marie
 Evelyn (Brown) von Forell was born September 4, 1920, to Bernard V. and
 Ethlyn (Hartman) Brown.&nbsp; The doctor said not to name her because she 
wouldn’t live more than a couple of weeks.&nbsp; She entered into eternal 
life April 3, 2023, at the age of 102 years, 7 months.

Marie
 was born in Hebron, Nebraska, the second of four children.&nbsp; At a very 
young age, the family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and then back to Hebron
 in 1928.&nbsp; She grew up during the depression with multiple generations 
living together at her grandparents’ home. Marie graduated from Hebron 
High School in 1938.

Marie
 was married to Drexel G. von Forell on November 24, 1938, (Thanksgiving 
Day).&nbsp; They farmed at Hebron through World War II.&nbsp; In the late 1940s, 
Drexel was called into the ministry and attended Manhattan Bible 
College.&nbsp; Marie became a supportive pastor’s wife.&nbsp; As she and Drexel 
moved from church to church, she held jobs as a bookkeeper at several 
banks in Nebraska, a hospital in Wisconsin; worked for the newspaper in 
Smith Center, Kansas, and Boss Motors in Marysville, Kansas. She raised 
four children in Kansas and Nebraska and participated in church life as 
the pastor’s wife for most of her married life.&nbsp;

After
 their retirement, Drexel and Marie moved to Waterville, Kansas, and 
started renovating a 100-year-old home.&nbsp; They later moved to the Kansas 
Christian Home in Newton, Kansas&nbsp; Marie kept busy with her doll 
collection; began quilting and made quilts for each child and 
grandchild.&nbsp; She also made many quilts for charity and was the 
coordinator for the Kansas Christian Home sewing group which provided 
residents with gowns and bibs.&nbsp; If you had a baby, you probably received
 a Raggedy Ann doll.&nbsp; She made hundreds of these for gifts and for the 
church bazaars.&nbsp; In 2015, she moved to Manhattan, Kansas, to live with 
her daughter and son-in-law, as her glaucoma was getting worse.&nbsp; She 
continued making her charity quilts until she was 98.

She
 was predeceased by Drexel, her husband of 58 years; her parents, 
Bernard and Ethlyn Brown; siblings, Gene Brown, June Hainlen and Melvin 
Brown; and granddaughter, Rayna von Forell.

She
 is survived by her children, Gene von Forell (Brenda), Donna Copeland 
(Lee), Margaret Zimmerman (Bob), and Nancy Schurle (Fred); 
granddaughters, Deborah Copeland, Rebekah Palmero, Beth Hewes, Kaitlin 
Witt, Joelle von Forell and Danielle von Forell; great-grandchildren, 
Terran Copeland-Garcia, Aric Garcia, Allegra Garcia-Oliver, Bennett and 
Audrey Witt; great-great-grandchildren, Rowan and Gage Copeland-Garcia 
and Baby Boy Garcia (on the way); and 13 nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2023, at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Marie Evelyn (Brown) von Forell

Richard L. Bell, 91, of Junction City, formerly of Denison, Texas, 
passed away Tuesday, April 4th, 2023, at the Via Christi Village in 
Manhattan.  He was the owner of Bell Mobil and Wrecker Service in 
Richardson, Texas, for over 40 years.

Richard was born 
in Osborne, Kansas, on September 6, 1931.  He was the son of the late 
Floyd Logan and Zelma Diane (Coppock) Bell.  He attended and graduated 
from the Downs High School in Downs, Kansas.  He was the husband of 
Evelyn (Darcangelo) Bell,  they were married on Aug. 15, 1953, in 
Quantico, Virginia. He served in the U.S. Marines as a 1st Lt. during the
 Korean War.  As he and Evelyn traveled for his jobs, they fell in love 
with the Richardson, Texas, area and made it "their home." Richard 
enjoyed the outdoors, which allowed him to be an Assistant Boy Scout 
Leader of BSA Troop 720.

Richard is survived by his 
wife Evelyn of their home; two daughters, Julie M. Bell (T. Bryan 
Darrah), of Junction City; Vikki Potts, of Prosper, TX; a son, Kenneth 
E. Bell, of San Marcos, TX; a sister, Joann Bell, of Topeka; a brother, 
Larry Lee, widower of Lois Bell, of Me'Rida, Yucatán, Mexico; 6 
grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  Richard is preceded in death 
by his parents; two sons, Richard F. Bell &amp; Mark A. Bell.

Edward Seaton, who died Dec. 26, 2022, at age 79, wouldn’t have 
wanted to bury the lede. He was, first and foremost, a man who wanted 
all the facts, wanted them unvarnished; he wanted to face the tough 
problems head-on, believing in his core that there was always a solution
 if you got all the facts and worked hard enough to understand them 
correctly.

So it would be his wish that you know he
 died sometime in the middle of the night, evidently falling at the foot
 of his bed, never to rise again. Since the death of his wife Karen 30 
months ago, he had lived alone in their home at the top of Delaware 
Avenue in Manhattan, eating dinner by himself at a small table with nine
 photos of her facing him.

He had a medical alert 
necklace, a common-sense arrangement for a guy who didn’t want any more 
help, wanted to stick to his routines, wanted to remain in his own home.
 The fact that he never pushed the button — and the fact that there was 
no evidence of any other trouble — would indicate that he died quickly, 
and did not suffer in that moment. He would also want to point out that 
we don’t know that for sure, since he’s the only guy that did the dying,
 and, as he would assert, he ain’t talkin’.

Edward 
had a rough last year, catching pneumonia last winter and spending a 
month in the hospital. COVID put him back in the hospital for a week in 
the spring, but he made it up to the family vacation spot in Bay Lake, 
Minnesota, for a couple of weeks in the summer. He had, the year before,
 made it through open-heart surgery. He also survived throat cancer in 
the late 1990s and a traumatic brain injury in 2015, after falling 
backwards on the tennis court in the twice-a-week late-afternoon doubles
 game he played for 40 years. He was a man of diligence, of routines, 
and refusal to give in.

Edward had spent Christmas Eve 
at his home with his son Ned and daughter-in-law Angie, and his 
grandkids Jake, Hannah and Brett Seaton, and his 
grandson-in-every-way-but-genetically Kirkland Lambert. He made a fire, 
and suggested swapping out a couple of CDs in the stereo – bought in the
 1970s, still functioning competently — for Mormon Tabernacle Choir 
Christmas collections. He did his research on that stereo system — he 
still had an active subscription to Consumer Reports magazine — bought 
intelligently, and then kept gizmos forever. He asked for help this 
winter fixing the tuning knob on a short-wave radio.

Don’t
 get dazzled by flashing lights and buzzers, he said; technology is just
 a black box that either makes your life better or it doesn’t. Other 
common refrains: No need to reinvent the wheel. Don’t build any Taj 
Mahals. Don’t build monuments. Take care of the pennies and the dollars 
will take care of themselves.

He knew his health 
was declining, and he was under no illusions about that. But he truly 
had a pleasant Christmas Eve, watching kids open presents, opening a few
 himself. On Christmas Day, he watched “Love Actually,” Jay’s favorite, 
which he said was OK. He watched “Christmas Vacation” at Ned’s 
suggestion, which he thought was just dumb. He planned to watch “It’s a 
Wonderful Life;” it’s not entirely clear if he got around to that one.

Edward
 was born in Manhattan Feb. 5, 1943, to Richard M. Seaton and Mary 
Holton Seaton; they lived in a home on Longview Drive. He was the 
youngest of their four children: Richard H., David and Elizabeth came 
before him, in that order. They moved to Coffeyville before Edward went 
to school, so he grew up entirely in that town. His father was the 
publisher of the Coffeyville Journal. His grandfather, Fay N. Seaton, 
had bought the Manhattan Mercury in 1915.

He was a 
natural-born entrepreneur, according to family lore, gathering up 
trinkets donated by family members and re-selling them to other family 
members. He held his own church services, passing the plate. He was in 
4-H and Boy Scouts, eventually earning his Eagle Scout.

Edward
 went away to Harvard, following both of his brothers. All three were 
competitive college swimmers. Edward roomed all four years with David 
Abramson, a New Yorker who became his best friend. His last trip, in 
November, was to see David receive an award in New York.

He
 also developed an interest in Spain, sparked by some early European 
travels with his parents and by the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War 
and the rise of the Franco regime there.

He 
traveled to Madrid for the summer between his junior and senior years of
 college so as to study the language and gather information toward a 
senior thesis he planned to write. It was there that he met Karen 
Mathisen, a Vassar girl from New York who, by happenstance, lived with 
the same host family in a home on Calle Alcala.

The 
fact that there remains, to this day, a coffee cup in his kitchen 
cabinet imprinted with the name of that street tells you about as much 
as you need to know. Karen and Edward fell in love, and were married 
Sept. 4, 1965, three months after Edward’s graduation from Harvard.

Karen
 died in June, 2020. Edward said half of him was gone after that, but 
the force of habit and the belief in the value of work kept him busy. He
 swam routinely this past summer, and walked on a treadmill, as recently
 as a week before his death.

The doctors had sent him 
for an echocardiogram, which revealed a narrowed aortic valve — a 
problem that the surgeons had chosen not to address in his heart surgery
 a year and a half ago. If that valve was ultimately the cause of his 
demise, then it would be accurate to say that he died of a broken heart.
 It was, at least, symbolically true.

Karen and Edward 
spent their first year of marriage in Quito, Ecuador, on a Fulbright 
Scholarship Edward had won. That began a lifelong love affair with Latin
 America, where they traveled together many times.

Edward
 joined, and eventually led, the Inter American Press Association and 
its efforts to secure freedom of the press across the Americas. In the 
largest sense, that effort succeeded, culminating in the signing of the 
Declaration of Chapultepec, a free-press document signed by nearly every
 country in the hemisphere. Along the way, he engaged in a public 
five-hour debate with Fidel Castro — in Spanish. In his later years, he 
wrote a book about his work in that crusade called “Heroes and 
Scoundrels.” His last major undertaking was writing the story of Karen’s
 life, which he completed a few months ago.

Edward 
had a lifelong love affair also with good food and wine, and became a 
very good cook. He and Karen turned meals into special occasions. At the
 family gathering in Minnesota in August, he annually brought in fancy, 
often stinky, cheeses, which he would describe in great detail for his 
grandchildren, who came to love the whole production. Granddaughter 
Hannah hit the nail on the head when asked what she thought of the 
cheese: “Awful but good.”

He kept detailed spreadsheets
 — handwritten, of course — detailing when the wines in their basement 
storeroom would be at their peak.

After Quito, they 
went to Columbia, Mo., where Edward pursued a master’s degree in 
journalism. Their first son, Edward (Ned) Merrill Seaton was born there 
in 1967; Karen always said Edward never quite finished his graduate 
degree work because he was too fascinated by Ned. Ned eventually 
succeeded his father as the Mercury’s publisher, inheriting from his dad
 not only a career but his joy in the written word. Ned also became a 
decent tennis player, following in his dad’s footsteps. They had titanic
 ping-pong battles in the basement of their house on College Heights 
Road that ended with at least one hole punched in a wall. The tennis 
battles ended once Edward lost to Ned a few times in a row. He always 
blamed a pre-match martini, but he was mostly joking. Tanqueray, up, 
with a twist.

They moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where
 Edward got a reporter’s job with the Courier-Journal. Then, in 1969, he
 joined the family business as the general manager of The Manhattan 
Mercury. He became the publisher and editor-in-chief and effectively ran
 the newspaper for the next 53 years.

His younger 
son, John David (Jay) Seaton, was born Nov. 20, 1970, in Manhattan. Jay 
inherited Edward’s cooking prowess, his attention to detail, his sense 
of adventure and his mechanical aptitude, which was considerable. Edward
 could tie good knots, he was an excellent fisherman, and he was capable
 of operating a printing press. Jay also followed in his father’s 
footsteps, leaving a Kansas City law firm to become publisher of The 
(Grand Junction, Colo.) Daily Sentinel, the largest newspaper between 
Denver and Salt Lake.

In 1988, Edward and Karen hosted 
Beatriz Parias, an Amity Aide teacher from Spain who spent a year at 
Manhattan High. She became a would-be daughter to them. Edward traveled 
for two weeks in Spain this fall to visit Beatriz, where, among other 
places, he revisited Calle Alcala.

Along with his 
father, his uncle Fred Seaton and then his brother David in Winfield and
 his cousin Don in Hastings, Neb., Edward built a collection of 
companies that operated newspapers in Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, 
Wyoming, Colorado and Oklahoma. The family also owned Manhattan 
Broadcasting, which has expanded to include five stations in the 
Manhattan region, as well as a broadcasting enterprise in Grand 
Junction, Colorado. Although they were a collection of affiliated 
companies, it would not be a stretch to say that Edward was a driving 
force in all of them. He always read the reports, and had handwritten 
notes, and would ask the difficult questions.

He was 
involved in his hometown of Manhattan in several ways, serving as the 
chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, the president of the Rotary Club 
and the chair of the United Way. He supported Kansas State University in
 many ways, including leading the fundraising effort to build Bramlage 
Coliseum. He also created and oversaw the YES Fund, raising millions of 
dollars to support after-school programs for local kids. Those wishing

To attempt to 
enumerate all his positions and the organizations that he helped would 
be foolhardy, and it would belabor the point. The point is, as he told 
Ned and Angie on Christmas Eve, “I just tried to do the right thing.”

At
 a broader level, he served as the president of the American Society of 
Newspaper Editors, and he served on the board that awards the Pulitzer 
Prizes, including a term as its chairman. He read every word of all the 
entries. He’s in the Kansas Newspaper Hall of Fame.

He’s
 survived by Ned and Angie and their kids: Jake, Hannah, Brett, 
Kirkland, Grant Geyer, Megan Geyer and Adam Geyer; and by Jay and his 
spouse Ann Groves and their kids: Katherine Seaton, Beck Seaton and Rio 
Groves, all of Grand Junction, Colo. He was proud of Katherine, a 
visually impaired young lady who turned 21 Dec. 27, who is attending the
 Berklee College of Music in Boston. Among her many original 
compositions was a hip-hop number, “The Stinky Cheese Rap,” obviously an
 ode to her grandpa, where the extended dinners often led to 
conversations that veered from politics to what to do about intelligent 
life elsewhere in the universe. The opening line of that song: “Sittin’ 
round the table with grandpa’s rants…”

Edward left this
 world only a block from the home where he came into it. But the world 
he left behind is better than the one he came into, from his hometown to
 the halls of power across the western hemisphere, to newsrooms across 
the country and the world. And more than anything, of course, in the 
hearts and minds of his kids and grandkids.

A 
celebration of the life of Edward L. Seaton is scheduled for 11 a.m. on 
Saturday, April 15, 2023, at All Faiths Chapel on the campus of Kansas 
State University. All are invited.

There will be 
speakers and music. Memorial contributions in his name can be made to 
the YES! Fund, a charity he helped establish and run for 30 years. It 
benefits after-school programs for kids in the Manhattan area.

 </figure>Edward Seaton, who died Dec. 26, 2022, at age 79, wouldn’t have 
wanted to bury the lede. He was, first and foremost, a man who wanted 
all the facts, wanted them unvarnished; he wanted to face the tough 
problems head-on, believing in his core that there was always a solution
 if you got all the facts and worked hard enough to understand them 
correctly. So it would be his wish that you know he
 died sometime in the middle of the night, evidently falling at the foot
 of his bed, never to rise again. Since the death of his wife Karen 30 
months ago, he had lived alone in their home at the top of Delaware 
Avenue in Manhattan, eating dinner by himself at a small table with nine
 photos of her facing him.He had a medical alert 
necklace, a common-sense arrangement for a guy who didn’t want any more 
help, wanted to stick to his routines, wanted to remain in his own home.
 The fact that he never pushed the button — and the fact that there was 
no evidence of any other trouble — would indicate that he died quickly, 
and did not suffer in that moment. He would also want to point out that 
we don’t know that for sure, since he’s the only guy that did the dying,
 and, as he would assert, he ain’t talkin’. Edward 
had a rough last year, catching pneumonia last winter and spending a 
month in the hospital. COVID put him back in the hospital for a week in 
the spring, but he made it up to the family vacation spot in Bay Lake, 
Minnesota, for a couple of weeks in the summer. He had, the year before,
 made it through open-heart surgery. He also survived throat cancer in 
the late 1990s and a traumatic brain injury in 2015, after falling 
backwards on the tennis court in the twice-a-week late-afternoon doubles
 game he played for 40 years. He was a man of diligence, of routines, 
and refusal to give in.Edward had spent Christmas Eve 
at his home with his son Ned and daughter-in-law Angie, and his 
grandkids Jake, Hannah and Brett Seaton, and his 
grandson-in-every-way-but-genetically Kirkland Lambert. He made a fire, 
and suggested swapping out a couple of CDs in the stereo – bought in the
 1970s, still functioning competently — for Mormon Tabernacle Choir 
Christmas collections. He did his research on that stereo system — he 
still had an active subscription to Consumer Reports magazine — bought 
intelligently, and then kept gizmos forever. He asked for help this 
winter fixing the tuning knob on a short-wave radio.Don’t
 get dazzled by flashing lights and buzzers, he said; technology is just
 a black box that either makes your life better or it doesn’t. Other 
common refrains: No need to reinvent the wheel. Don’t build any Taj 
Mahals. Don’t build monuments. Take care of the pennies and the dollars 
will take care of themselves. He knew his health 
was declining, and he was under no illusions about that. But he truly 
had a pleasant Christmas Eve, watching kids open presents, opening a few
 himself. On Christmas Day, he watched “Love Actually,” Jay’s favorite, 
which he said was OK. He watched “Christmas Vacation” at Ned’s 
suggestion, which he thought was just dumb. He planned to watch “It’s a 
Wonderful Life;” it’s not entirely clear if he got around to that one.Edward
 was born in Manhattan Feb. 5, 1943, to Richard M. Seaton and Mary 
Holton Seaton; they lived in a home on Longview Drive. He was the 
youngest of their four children: Richard H., David and Elizabeth came 
before him, in that order. They moved to Coffeyville before Edward went 
to school, so he grew up entirely in that town. His father was the 
publisher of the Coffeyville Journal. His grandfather, Fay N. Seaton, 
had bought the Manhattan Mercury in 1915.He was a 
natural-born entrepreneur, according to family lore, gathering up 
trinkets donated by family members and re-selling them to other family 
members. He held his own church services, passing the plate. He was in 
4-H and Boy Scouts, eventually earning his Eagle Scout.Edward
 went away to Harvard, following both of his brothers. All three were 
competitive college swimmers. Edward roomed all four years with David 
Abramson, a New Yorker who became his best friend. His last trip, in 
November, was to see David receive an award in New York.He
 also developed an interest in Spain, sparked by some early European 
travels with his parents and by the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War 
and the rise of the Franco regime there. He 
traveled to Madrid for the summer between his junior and senior years of
 college so as to study the language and gather information toward a 
senior thesis he planned to write. It was there that he met Karen 
Mathisen, a Vassar girl from New York who, by happenstance, lived with 
the same host family in a home on Calle Alcala.The 
fact that there remains, to this day, a coffee cup in his kitchen 
cabinet imprinted with the name of that street tells you about as much 
as you need to know. Karen and Edward fell in love, and were married 
Sept. 4, 1965, three months after Edward’s graduation from Harvard.Karen
 died in June, 2020. Edward said half of him was gone after that, but 
the force of habit and the belief in the value of work kept him busy. He
 swam routinely this past summer, and walked on a treadmill, as recently
 as a week before his death.The doctors had sent him 
for an echocardiogram, which revealed a narrowed aortic valve — a 
problem that the surgeons had chosen not to address in his heart surgery
 a year and a half ago. If that valve was ultimately the cause of his 
demise, then it would be accurate to say that he died of a broken heart.
 It was, at least, symbolically true.Karen and Edward 
spent their first year of marriage in Quito, Ecuador, on a Fulbright 
Scholarship Edward had won. That began a lifelong love affair with Latin
 America, where they traveled together many times.Edward
 joined, and eventually led, the Inter American Press Association and 
its efforts to secure freedom of the press across the Americas. In the 
largest sense, that effort succeeded, culminating in the signing of the 
Declaration of Chapultepec, a free-press document signed by nearly every
 country in the hemisphere. Along the way, he engaged in a public 
five-hour debate with Fidel Castro — in Spanish. In his later years, he 
wrote a book about his work in that crusade called “Heroes and 
Scoundrels.” His last major undertaking was writing the story of Karen’s
 life, which he completed a few months ago. Edward 
had a lifelong love affair also with good food and wine, and became a 
very good cook. He and Karen turned meals into special occasions. At the
 family gathering in Minnesota in August, he annually brought in fancy, 
often stinky, cheeses, which he would describe in great detail for his 
grandchildren, who came to love the whole production. Granddaughter 
Hannah hit the nail on the head when asked what she thought of the 
cheese: “Awful but good.”He kept detailed spreadsheets
 — handwritten, of course — detailing when the wines in their basement 
storeroom would be at their peak.After Quito, they 
went to Columbia, Mo., where Edward pursued a master’s degree in 
journalism. Their first son, Edward (Ned) Merrill Seaton was born there 
in 1967; Karen always said Edward never quite finished his graduate 
degree work because he was too fascinated by Ned. Ned eventually 
succeeded his father as the Mercury’s publisher, inheriting from his dad
 not only a career but his joy in the written word. Ned also became a 
decent tennis player, following in his dad’s footsteps. They had titanic
 ping-pong battles in the basement of their house on College Heights 
Road that ended with at least one hole punched in a wall. The tennis 
battles ended once Edward lost to Ned a few times in a row. He always 
blamed a pre-match martini, but he was mostly joking. Tanqueray, up, 
with a twist.They moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where
 Edward got a reporter’s job with the Courier-Journal. Then, in 1969, he
 joined the family business as the general manager of The Manhattan 
Mercury. He became the publisher and editor-in-chief and effectively ran
 the newspaper for the next 53 years. His younger 
son, John David (Jay) Seaton, was born Nov. 20, 1970, in Manhattan. Jay 
inherited Edward’s cooking prowess, his attention to detail, his sense 
of adventure and his mechanical aptitude, which was considerable. Edward
 could tie good knots, he was an excellent fisherman, and he was capable
 of operating a printing press. Jay also followed in his father’s 
footsteps, leaving a Kansas City law firm to become publisher of The 
(Grand Junction, Colo.) Daily Sentinel, the largest newspaper between 
Denver and Salt Lake.In 1988, Edward and Karen hosted 
Beatriz Parias, an Amity Aide teacher from Spain who spent a year at 
Manhattan High. She became a would-be daughter to them. Edward traveled 
for two weeks in Spain this fall to visit Beatriz, where, among other 
places, he revisited Calle Alcala.Along with his 
father, his uncle Fred Seaton and then his brother David in Winfield and
 his cousin Don in Hastings, Neb., Edward built a collection of

Mary Patricia (Bushey) Johannes, 84, of Manhattan, KS, passed away on
 Friday, April 7, 2023, at the Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community.

Pat, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was 
born on December 15, 1938, in Topeka, Kansas, to the late Henry P. and 
Pauline J. (Burlie) Bushey.

Pat grew up in St. Marys, KS where she attended grade school and high
 school.&nbsp; She met her future husband, John Raymond Johannes, while she 
was attending Marymount College in Salina.

Pat and John were joined in marriage at the Immaculate Conception 
Catholic Church in St. Marys, KS, on June 7, 1958. They had their family
 in Salina, KS, and were transferred to Delphos, Lyons, Hutchinson, 
Abilene, and Manhattan during John’s career with KP&amp;L.

Pat earned her Bachelor’s degree in Art from Marymount College.&nbsp; She 
was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan. Her devotion 
to her faith was matched only by her devotion to her family. Pat loved 
her family more than anything and always enjoyed when they got together,
 especially at Christmas. She and her husband, John, also enjoyed 
fishing and hunting together.

Holding her in loving memory are her children, Sherry McKee (Westin),
 Salina, Tracey Evans (Link), The Woodlands, TX, Greg Johannes 
(Jennifer), Onaga, and Cristy Donnelly (Thad), Wamego; 19 grandchildren;
 13 great-grandchildren (plus one more on the way); and sister, Jane 
Ernst, (Wayne), Boise, Idaho. Mary Pat was preceded in death by her 
parents, and her loving husband of nearly 64 years, John, on March 21, 
2022. She will be deeply missed and always loved.

The family will receive friends from 9:00-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, 
April 15, 2023, at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in 
Salina.&nbsp; A rosary service will start at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of 
Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Kevin Weber officiating.&nbsp; 
Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery followed by a luncheon at 
St. Mary’s Parish Hall.

Her family is deeply grateful for the care she received from the

She was born on February 5, 1938, the daughter of Joseph and Verda 
(Nemnich) Trudell, in Morganville, Kansas.

Reta grew up in Morganville, graduating from Morganville High School 
in 1956.&nbsp; On June 2, 1957, she married Ross Knitter and he preceded her 
in death on March 30, 2007.&nbsp; Reta worked as a secretary for E.E. Cyr in 
Morganville.&nbsp; She then worked for USD 379 as a secretary for the 
Wakefield Schools before moving to the USD 379 Board office, where she 
was a secretary for 42 years.&nbsp; Reta had tremendous strength and fought 
hard, even up to the day of her passing.&nbsp; 

She was a member of the Clay 
Center United Methodist Church, Clay Center Country Club and the Bridge 
Club.&nbsp; Reta is also preceded in death by her parents and sister, Joan 
Germann.

She is survived by her son, Kevin and his wife, Carol Knitter of 
Tucson, Arizona; daughter: Karmen Holt of Junction City, Kansas; 5 
grandchildren, Joseph (Lauren) Knitter, Crystal (Aaron) Barnes, Wendi 
Holt, Jacob (Maggie) Knitter and John (Naomi) Knitter and 7 great 
grandchildren.

Jo Hana "Jody" Knerr, 73, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, April 4th, 2023.

Jody was born in Salina, Kansas, on September 26, 1949, a daughter of Peggy Gean (Herman) and Joseph Henry Duay.

Survivors
 include three daughters, Carla Funk, (Alan) of Culver, Kansas, Leasa 
Mayhugh (David), of Salina, Kansas, Cindy Mayhugh (Greg), of Delphos, 
Kansas; two sons, Curtiss Mayhugh, of Salina, Kansas, Joseph Knerr, of 
Olathe, Kansas; 12 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.

Jody is also survived by 1 sister; 2 brothers; and ex-husband, Kenneth Knerr.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Jerry Utley.

Graveside
 services will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 27th, 2023, at Gypsum Hill 
Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Friendship Center, 
746 Commanche Ave, Salina.

 services will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 27th, 2023, at Gypsum Hill 
Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Friendship Center, 
746 Commanche Ave, Salina.Donations may be made to Gentiva Hospice or Village Bible Church, in care of the funeral home.
