Vernon Joseph “Tink” Prockish, Sr., 90, of Westmoreland, Kansas, died Saturday, February 25, 2023, at his home. He was a life-long resident of the area.

Vernon was born on October 10, 1932, in rural Flush, Kansas, the son of Leo Charles and Gertrude (Krouse) Prockish. He attended local grade schools and graduated in 1950 from Wamego High School. He then served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict.

Vernon worked as a heavy equipment operator for Bayer Construction as well as a farmer and stockman, operating his own family farm operation. He was a member of the American Legion. Vernon loved sports and was an avid fan of K-State, the Royals and the Chiefs, but most of all he loved to attend his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Vernon loved trips to the mountains and in his younger days enjoyed hunting and fishing. Over the years, he was seen regularly drinking coffee and swapping stories with his friends at the Short Stop or Co-op.

Vernon married Charlotte Hunt on May 25, 1952, in Westmoreland. After 58 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on November 7, 2010.

Vernon is survived by his children; Joe Prockish (Nancy), Westmoreland, Cindy Collins (Sam), Westmoreland, Tim Prockish (Anna), Salina, and Lori Buss (Bob), Westmoreland; his grandchildren, Todd (Christy), Mandy (Richard), Justin, Adam (Heidi), Kimberly (Robbie), Kassandra (Ryan), Ryan (Ashlee), Tyler (Brianna), and Trystan (Tayler); his great-grandchildren, Heidi, Taylor, Megan, Tregen, Jayden, Bentley, and Cade; and his great-great grandchildren, Ivy Jo, Emery and Aaliyah; and his brother, Delbert Prockish, Wamego. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Eugene Prockish, Margie Howard, Kenneth Prockish, Deloris Fleming, Marcella Prockish, and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 3, 2023, at Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Pastor Kaylie Ines will be officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Westmoreland City Cemetery. Vernon will lie-in-state on Thursday, beginning at 3:00 pm, and the family will greet friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. They suggest memorial contributions to Rock Creek High School, and those may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Margaret was very compassionate and willing to help others around her, 
and was more than willing to help care for her mother and step-father in
 their declining years.

Margaret’s only son, Jason, died as a result of a freak accident on Mill Creek in 1981.

Margaret is survived by her nieces, Ardice Pennington (Larry), of 
Selma, Iowa, and Roxanne Sandoval (Victor) of Benseville, IL, as well as
 grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, 
Marge Mondt, Frank Gordon, Dewaine Gordon, and Lauraine Dodgers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, March 9,
 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Alma. Father Swamy Nannam will 
be the Celebrant. 

The family suggests memorial contributions to Holy 
Family Catholic Church, and those may be sent in care of Campanella and

David Allen Queen, age 33, of Manhattan, died February 22, 2023, at the Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

David
 was born on March 14, 1989, in Manhattan, the son of Mark and Kayla 
(Kilgore) Queen.  Growing up in Manhattan he was a member of the Boy 
Scouts, he earned many badges while in the Scouts and was already to 
sell popcorn for the annual fundraiser. David graduated from Manhattan 
High School in 2007, he then earned his degree as a motorcycle mechanic.

On July 16, 2022, in Ozawkie, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Alexis Silva.  She survives at their home in Manhattan.

David
 was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and of Kansas State sports, 
always cheered hard for the Wildcats, maybe sometime a little extra when
 they play a certain other Kansas team.  He enjoyed the outdoors, 
hunting, fishing, camping, riding his dirt bike, and was always the 
person in charge of making the bond fire for the campouts.

David
 also had fun listening to country music and using his smoker to smoke 
meat for the family.  He will be missed by his dogs and his pet ferrets.
  His fun and his sense of humor will be missed by all his family and 
friends.

In addition to his wife Alexis, he is survived
 by his parents, Mark and Kayla Queen, his brother Bryan Queen, sister 
Kristen Klug and her husband Chris and David’s nephew Jonah Klug; 
grandparents, Paul Queen, Robert and Nita Kilgore, and also his 
father-in-law and mother-in-law Frank Silva II and Krisena Silva.

David was preceded in death by his grandmother, Kathy Queen.

The
 family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:00 until 7:30p.m. 
Tuesday February 28, 2023 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home 
in Manhattan.

Funeral services will be held at 
10:00a.m. Wednesday March 1, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church 
in Manhattan, with the Rev. Barry Dundas officiating.  Interment will

David Allen Queen

Jason Lee Daniels, 46, was born on April 24, 1976, to James “Jim” and 
Donna (Pollock) Daniels in Neligh, NE. He passed away on February 21, 
2023, at home in Hubbell, NE surrounded by his family. Jason attended 
grade school in Neligh, NE until 5th grade and later graduated from 
Bruning High School in Bruning, NE in 1994. In 2011, he graduated from 
Kaplan University with his Associate of Applied Science of Criminal 
Justice. He was part of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars for 
academic achievement. Life took Jason in many different directions. From
 being a security guard for famous concerts to ending at Beatrice 
Concrete as a cement truck driver. He worked at the Fairbury plant for 7
 years and absolutely loved what he did and his co-workers became a part
 of his family.

In Jason’s free time, you could catch him hunting, fishing, playing 
fetch with his best pal Moose, woodworking and hanging out with friends 
and family. He had many different “man toys” such as his dirt bike and 
four-wheeler that never sat in one place for too long. Jason loved being
 outside and in the wilderness where there was no cell phone reception 
just enjoying the peace and beauty of nature. Jason was very excited to 
be a new grandpa in June of 2023 to unborn baby Barrett Richardson. He 
would talk about all the new memories he wanted to make with him and 
teach him all the hunting and fishing tricks that he knew.&nbsp;

In June of 2022, Jason was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer 
with metastasis to the liver. His fight to beat the cancer was 
incredible. He would always say, “I will fight this cancer until I can’t
 fight anymore. I won’t give up.” He stuck very true to these words 
until God called him home on February 21, 2022.&nbsp;

Jason is survived by his two daughters; Jordan (Kolton) Richardson of
 Greenleaf, KS and Jasmine Daniels of Hebron, NE, Mother, Donna Daniels 
of Bruning, NE, Siblings; Marcus (Pamela) Daniels of Mahaska, KS, Joshua
 Daniels of Plymouth, NE, and Jennifer Seibolt (Brian Bartels) of

Oakdale Cemetery in Oakdale, NE. Family will greet friends on Sunday,

service with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 
2023, at Fort Riley Post Cemetery. He was born on August 8, 1968, Cocoa Beach, Florida, to Craig and Peggy (Riddle) Hansen. Bryan
 joined the United States Army in October of 1986. Over the years, he 
spent time in Russia, Germany, Hawaii, South Korea, and Honduras. He 
honorably served over 23 years. Bryan was a member of the Veterans 
Motorcycle Club in Junction City, Kansas, for 13 years. On February 14, 1992, he married Tracy (Hinton) Hansen. Together, they raised four beautiful children that they adored. Bryan

Sarah was a Paraprofessional for USD 437, where she dedicated herself to supporting and helping children with their education. She was kind and patient person who had a gift for connecting with children and her colleagues and students alike admired and respected her for her hard work and dedication. In her free time, Sarah loved attending concerts and listening to music, playing video games, and spending time with her beloved cats. She had a special talent for finding joy in the small things in life and spreading that joy to those around her. Sarah Nicole Wernecke

Janice Earlene Harold passed away on February 19, 2023, at the age of 81. She was born in Dwight Kansas on August 14, 1941, to Howard Glessner and Augusta Nickoley-Glessner.

She was a 1959 graduate of Dwight High School and went on to graduate from Brown Mackie College.

After graduation, she went to work for Bailey Moving &amp; Storage, where she met her husband Ron who she married on November 24, 1962, and worked with him until her retirement in 2011.

She enjoyed working in her yard, woodworking, fishing, and boating on her pontoon, and loved her dogs. She could play the trumpet, the guitar, and the harmonica, and even played in the bell choir at church. Jan could play softball with the best and she honored and celebrated her Cherokee heritage.

Survivors include her husband of 60+ years, Ron, and her two daughters, Rhonda Taylor and her husband Bryan of Saint Joseph, MO, and Renee Vancamp and her partner Sheila Smith of Stevensville, MT.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Mt Calvary Lutheran Church 17535 Say Road, Wamego KS. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. up until service time.&nbsp; The family invites everyone for a light lunch &amp; refreshments after the service.&nbsp;

Janice Earlene Harold 

Douglas Dean Zimmerman of Fairbury, NE was born August 7, 1951, in 
Omaha, NE.&nbsp; His parents were Willie &amp; Laraine (Meyer) Zimmerman of 
Fairbury.&nbsp; He was baptized November 25, 1951, and confirmed April 11, 
1965, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury where he was a lifelong 
member.

Doug grew up on a farm a few miles east of Fairbury attending 
District 63 and graduating from Fairbury High School with the class of 
1969.&nbsp; As a youth, he played little league baseball during the summers. 
He was active in 4-H &amp; FFA.&nbsp; In high school he was on the football 
and track teams.&nbsp; He enlisted in the National Guard in 1969.&nbsp; He left 
the guard in 1976.&nbsp;

Doug married JoAnn Ahrens on May 6, 1972.&nbsp; This union was blessed 
with the birth of 2 children, Korinne &amp; Riley.&nbsp; They were married 
for 50 years.

He began his farming career at the age of 9, helping with the daily 
farming and chores.&nbsp; He farmed for 48 years before moving in to town in 
2008.&nbsp; After moving to Fairbury he worked at the Thies Sandpit for 3 
years.

Doug enjoyed spending time outside hunting, fishing &amp; pistol 
shooting.&nbsp; He belonged to the Practical Pistol Association shoot out of 
Lincoln &amp; Omaha for many years.&nbsp; He was a history buff &amp; 
collected prehistoric rocks, bones, teeth &amp; tusks.&nbsp; He was always 
happy to give a quick history lesson to anyone.

Much enjoyment came from cars &amp; drag racing.&nbsp; He started racing 
in 1970 at Manhattan, KS and continued there until the track closed in 
2019. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix from a combine to a lawn 
mower. He was the owner of Doug’s Automotive for 20+ years, selling high
 performance car parts from his garage.&nbsp;

He loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.&nbsp;

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Willie &amp; Laraine 
Zimmerman and father-in-law &amp; mother-in-law Herbert &amp; Wauneta 
Ahrens.

He is survived by his wife JoAnn, daughter Korinne Zimmerman of 
Lincoln, son Riley (Krystal) Zimmerman of Phillipsburg, KS, 
grandchildren Dakkon, Andi &amp; Wyndham Priko of Lincoln, Kiley &amp; 
Jake Zimmerman of Phillipsburg, KS, sister Debra (Douglas) DeWald of

Douglas Dean Zimmerman

Mark Edward Fowler passed away unexpectedly in Manhattan, KS on the afternoon of February 20, 2023. He was 52.

Fowler was 
born on March 18th, 1970, in Pratt KS to Thomas and Ruth (Fruit) Fowler. 
He grew up with deep agricultural roots here in Lyon County. He 
graduated from Emporia High School in 1988. Fowler graduated from Kansas
 State University in 1992 where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Milling
 Science and Management. He later also completed his master’s degree in 
Agricultural Economics from Kansas State University.&nbsp;

Mark married Courtney Freeman on September 18, 1993, in Emporia Kansas.&nbsp;

He was 
employed by U.S. Wheat Associates where he was the Vice President of 
Global Technical Services. His career began as a flour miller, first for
 Cargill, Inc., and then Seaboard Corporation.&nbsp; In those roles, Fowler 
ran flour mills, worked on projects in several developing countries, 
including Ecuador, Guyana, and Haiti, and worked as a technical director
 of the Africa Division within Seaboard’s Overseas Group in Durban, 
South Africa. Later, Fowler spent 12 years at K-State as a milling 
specialist and associate director at the International Grains Program 
(IGP) Institute, in the university’s Department of Grain Science and 
Industry.

As a highly
 respected flour milling expert, Fowler also served as a technical 
milling consultant for U.S. Wheat, as well as the Northern Crops 
Institute (NCI), allowing him to become well acquainted with many U.S. 
Wheat staff and overseas customers.&nbsp;

Before 
joining U.S. Wheat originally as Vice President of Overseas Operations, 
Fowler was the President and CEO of Farmer Direct Foods, Inc. a 
farmer-owned, flour milling company in New Cambria, Kansas.

He was 
active in the Manhattan community as a member of the College Avenue 
United Methodist Church and the Lions Club. He has also served as a 4-H 
Community Club leader in Riley County. Fowler was also a member of 
Emporia Masonic Lodge #12 and Miriam Chapter #14 Order of the Eastern 
Star.&nbsp;

Fowler had a passion for agricultural and agricultural advocacy. He also loved to travel visiting over 50 countries.

Fowler is 
survived by his wife, Courtney; his daughter Piper Jane Fowler of 
Washington D.C., his daughter Paige Meria Fowler of Lawrence KS. His 
mother Ruth Fowler of Emporia. His sisters Amy Fowler&nbsp; and Rhonda 
(Scott) Gordon Emporia, KS. Father and Mother In-law Reverend Patick Sr.
 and Vera Freeman&nbsp; of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Many nieces and nephews.

Fowler is 
preceded in death by his father Thomas Fowler, infant sister Cynthia, 
maternal grandparents Chester and Edna Fruit, paternal grandparents

Daryl L. VanGilder, 71, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, 
February 22, 2023, at UnityPoint Health ~ Trinity Regional Medical 
Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Daryl’s wishes were to be 
cremated.  A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 2:00 to 
4:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Carson ~ Stapp Funeral 
Home in Dayton.   Burial will be at McGuire Bend Cemetery, rural Dayton,
 at a later date with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Peterson

Daryl Linn VanGilder was born on July 17, 1951, in Warren, Ohio, the son of Howard and Shirley (Linn) Vangilder.

Daryl
 was a graduate of the Dayton High School.  He served his country in the
 United States Army for nine years until his honorable discharge. He 
worked at Dayton Farm Drainage and later at Electrical Materials in Fort
 Dodge for over 15 years until his retirement.

Daryl was united in marriage to Carol Roseke in Las Vegas and the couple made their home in Dayton.

Daryl
 enjoyed fishing and always looked forward to the annual VanGilder 
family fishing trip on the English River in Ontario, Canada.

He
 is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Karin VanGilder and Donna
 Smith, brother, Kevin VanGilder, and grandparents, Elsie and Leslie 
Linn.

Survivors include his wife, Carol VanGilder of 
Dayton, Iowa; daughter, Amy (Mike Ziems), son, Luke VanGilder; six 
grandchildren, Shayna, Landon, Kegan, Halle, Owen, Ezmae, and Emarie; 
two brothers, Les (Diana) Vangilder of Dayton, Iowa, and Keith (Linda) 
Vangilder of Carroll, Iowa; two sisters, Linda Nelson of Lakefield, 
Minnesota, Faye VanGilder of Dayton, Iowa; brother-in-law, Mike Smith of
 Junction City, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.

Joe died at home in Manhattan, KS on February 21, 2023, after a lifelong battle with type 1 diabetes.

He
 was born in Wichita, KS to Joe and Jeanne Blackford and attended 
Andover Schools. Joe enjoyed being a part of Boy Scouts and became an 
Eagle Scout.  After attending WSU and K-State, he graduated from Emporia 
State with a degree in Biology. He received his teaching certificate 
from McPherson College and taught science at several Kansas schools.

Joe
 and Susan met while they were park rangers at Fall River. They 
eventually moved to Manhattan where he was employed at Fort Riley 
designing online education curriculum.

Joe loved to 
roam the Kansas prairies, photographing its vistas and wildflowers to 
share with others and quail hunting with his dog, Kanza.

Joe
 could hold forth on a wide variety of topics while brandishing a wicked
 sense of humor which will be missed by both friends and family.

Joe
 was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, 
Susan, their dogs Punkin and Monkey, sister Jan (Pat) Dukes, nephew 
Jason, and many great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Joseph W. Blackford II

William “Bill” Paul Mathewson, 92, of Manhattan, Kansas, died 
peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his 
family.

Bill was born on January 24, 1931, to Paul and 
Elsie (Becker) Mathewson in Seneca,  Kansas.  Bill was raised on a farm 
east of Seneca, the oldest of five siblings. Bill graduated from Sts. 
Peter and Paul High School in 1949. He worked as a carpenter with his 
father until joining the Air Force in January, 1951. He served for 4 
years, stationed 2 years at RAF Wethersfield, England and was honorably 
discharged in December, 1954.

Bill married Sandra 
Huerter on August 16, 1958, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, in 
Seneca, KS.  He continued working with his father, building 
approximately three to four dozen homes in Seneca. He and Sandra had 3 
sons during that time and they often served as his crew. Bill went to 
work for the Farmers Home Administration in 1970, moving to Manhattan in
 1979, and retired in 1992.  Bill enjoyed working with wood, especially 
walnut. He built both of their homes in Manhattan. Family and friends 
all have items made by Bill including kitchen cabinets, cedar chests, 
grandfather clocks, and other furniture items.  He also built several 
items for both St. Thomas More and Seven Dolors churches.  Just after 
Bill was married, he built a wooden boat and taught many friends and 
family members how to waterski.  Waterskiing and golf were his favorite 
sports and he last skied at age 86.

He was a founding 
member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, a Fourth Degree member of the
 Manhattan Knights of Columbus Council 8488 and member of the National 
Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Elsie; his brothers Terrance, Richard and Wayne; and great-grandson Ryker.

He
 is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sandra; sons, James (Lola) of 
Manhattan, KS, Steven (Susana) Mathewson of Folsom, CA, Mark (Jody) 
Mathewson of Dallas, TX; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 
sister Kay Fangman of Topeka, KS.

Funeral Mass will be 
11 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2023, at St. Thomas More Catholic&nbsp;Church, 2900
 Kimball Avenue, Manhattan, KS, with Rosary at 10 a.m. Burial will be in
 Seneca, KS.

William 'Bill' Paul Mathewson

Olivia P. Collins died Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at the age of 76 in her home of Meadowlark Hills, Manhattan, Kansas.

Olivia
 was born on October 23, 1946, in Weatherford, Texas to Georgie Layne 
Potter and Wilson Potter, who preceded Olivia in death in 2007 and 1997,
 as did the love of her life, Tony Jurich, in 2010.

Olivia
 graduated with honors from University of Texas at Austin with a 
bachelor’s degree in journalism and was awarded her master's degree in 
human development and the family from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
 and her Ph.D. in family life education from Kansas State University.

Her
 journalism degree was always important to Olivia. It was her first 
career and helped her express herself, connecting Olivia with the arts 
and nonprofit organizations whose causes she supported throughout her 
life. As her love for adolescents and young adults grew, she pursued 
advanced degrees where her true essence of teacher and mentor shone 
through, landing her in places and spaces she enriched with her open 
heart, critical mind, and remarkable ability to form meaningful 
connections.

Following her doctoral studies, Olivia remained at 
K-State serving in 4-H Youth Programs, UFM Community Learning Center, 
School of Family Studies and Human Services, College of Human Ecology 
Dean’s Office, and retiring from the Staley School of Leadership in 
2010, where she served as assistant professor and director of the 
nonprofit leadership focus, a program she co-founded.

Olivia
 was recognized throughout her career for outstanding contributions to 
education and developing youth, and for her community leadership. She 
was named Leader of the Year from Kansas Association of Family and 
Consumer Sciences in 1995 and recognized also by the National Council on
 Family Relations. Olivia received the university’s “Putting Students 
First” Award and was celebrated by her Staley School students and 
colleagues with the Rost Outstanding Faculty/Staff Award and the Susan 
M. Scott Community Leadership Award. In 2014, Olivia received the 
Wildcat Pride Award for her advocacy of alumni relations from the 
K-State Alumni Association.

Olivia had an authentic way
 of accepting – and applauding – everyone for their unique gifts and 
talents. She paired this genuine and complete acceptance with an ability
 to raise expectations and challenge those she connected with to give 
and do their very best, making her the wisest and gentlest of mentors. 
When she retired, she so missed talking with students – although so many
 would keep in touch long after graduation, with notes, texts, and over 
coffee on visits back to town – that she would talk with everyone else, 
including former neighbors and colleagues, her favorite servers and 
bartenders, friends from long ago or just met – always happy to offer 
friendly advice and gentle nudges to any in need. Olivia was also quick 
to celebrate others, sending cards, gifts, plants and flowers to 
congratulate, console, or encourage. She would generously host a party, 
send drinks to someone’s table or pick up the tab for their meal – just 
because and with delight; “Isn’t this fun!”

Olivia was 
an only child and spoke fondly of her “four-square upbringing,” running 
away only once – hiding in the bushes, struggling with who she wanted to
 be. Not so long ago she laughed that she was still in the bushes 
figuring out who she is. We know Olivia as an intelligent, caring woman 
who built family throughout her life. She was an extraordinary partner 
to Tony Jurich, married for 23 years, and loving member of the Jurich 
clan, including those she is survived by: bother-in-law Peter Jurich; 
brother-in-law Steve Jurich and his wife Madeline and their children 
Matt, Maggie, and Jake, who has welcomed Olivia’s kitty companion Bella 
into his home; and niece and nephew Fran and Peter Babrow.

There
 are many organizations to which memorial contributions may be made that
 would pay tribute to Olivia, including funds she herself initiated: Amy
 Button Renz Nonprofit Leadership Fund, Tony Jurich Community Commitment
 and Leadership Award, and Tony Jurich Marriage and Family Therapy 
Excellence Fund; and those she supported including the Meadowlark Good 
Samaritan Fund and Girls on the Run all may be sent in care of the

Irma Jean Plus, 52, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023 at her home in Junction City, Kansas. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Irma was born October 16, 1970, in Beverly, Ohio the daughter of Dennis E. and Rita J. (Brundige) Mayden. Irma graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1990. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. Irma enjoyed spending time with the Eagle Rider's. She was a breast cancer survivor and devoted a lot of time supporting others with the same challenge. On July 6, 2004, she married Keven Plus. Survivors include her husband Keven of Junction City, Kansas; three daughters, Noel Williams of Junction City, Kansas, Lisa Roberson of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Michelle Daniels of Junction City, Kansas; her mother, Rita J. Mayden of Junction City, Kansas; two sisters, Misty Mayden-Miles of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Jennifer Lucero of Junction City, Kansas; five grandchildren, Demajae' Williams, TaLeigha Roberson, TeAndre Roberson, GraceLynn Daniels, Phoenix Johnson. Larry L. Riffel, 85, of Champaign, IL, died on Monday, February 6, 
2023.&nbsp; Larry was born on March 30, 1937, in Dickinson County, KS.&nbsp; He 
grew up on a farm outside of Woodbine, KS, and attended Woodbine High 
School and Brown Mackie College.&nbsp; He then embarked on a 40+ year career 
of farming and service at Fort Riley as an environmental specialist and 
auctioneer with the DRMO program.&nbsp; In 1999, he moved with his wife to 
Junction City, KS where he began his second career as a real estate 
agent, and held several area leadership positions. &nbsp;

Flying his Piper with local pilot clubs, woodworking, watching area 
college and professional athletic teams, traveling, spending time at the
 Kansas City Plaza, and participating in the community as a 4-H leader 
are just a few of the many things Larry enjoyed doing most.&nbsp; He was also
 an elder at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Herington, KS.&nbsp;

Surviving is his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Jane Riffel of 
Champaign, IL; sons, Timothy Riffel of Arizona and Greg Riffel of Texas;
 sisters, Shari Coup &nbsp;and Kathy (Howard) Ludden both of Arizona; and his
 beloved cat Marley girl. &nbsp;

Preceding Larry in death are his parents, Sylvester and Irene Riffel; and a brother-in-law, Curtis Coup.&nbsp;

A Gathering of Family and Friends and Celebration of Life was on Saturday, 
February 18, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church, 509 S. Mattis Ave, 
Champaign, IL 61821.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life will also be held in May of 2023 in Junction City, KS.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sarah, a 
beloved daughter, sister, mother, and friend. Sarah was born on March 
4th, 1986, in Emporia, Kansas, and she passed away unexpectedly on 
February 15th a t the age of 36. 
Sarah had a rich and complex life, full of love and laughter, but also 
of challenges and struggles. She was married to JW for 14 years, and 
together they had three children: Jake, Emily and Alice. Sarah was a 
devoted mother who always put her children first, and she loved spending
 time with them, watching them grow and supporting them in their 
passions and dreams. Sarah also had another daughter, Hailey, from a 
previous marriage to Brandon Long, who survived her. 
Sarah’s father, Stephen, and her sister, Celeste, will deeply miss her 
presence and her bright spirit. Sadly, Sarah was preceded in death by 
her mother, Elizabeth, who passed away some years ago. 
Sarah was a Paraprofessional for USD 437, where she dedicated herself to
 supporting and helping children with their education. She was kind and
 patient person who had a gift for connecting with children and her 
colleagues and students alike admired and respected her for her hard 
work and dedication. 
In her free time, Sarah loved attending concerts and listening to music,
 playing video games, and spending time with her beloved cats. She had a
 special talent for finding joy in the small things in life and 
spreading that joy to those around her. 
Sarah’s sudden passing has left a deep void in the hearts of her family 
and friends, who will always remember her loving and generous spirit, 
her contagious laughter, and her unwavering strength and resilience. 
She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

Ronald B. Haynes, 75, of Junction City, Kansas, passed away on Friday, 
February 17, 2023. A graveside service with military honors will take 
place on Friday, February 24, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., at Kansas Veterans' 
Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights Templar Eye 
Foundation, 3201 Cross Timbers Road, Bldg 4, Ste 300, Flower Mound, TX 
75028. He was born on August 10, 1947, in Chanute, Kansas, to 
Byrle and Ruth (Patton) Haynes. Ronald spent his whole childhood in 
Chanute, Kansas, and graduated from Chanute High School in 1966. On 
January 16, 1967, he and his twin brother, Donald, joined the United 
States Navy. Together, they served aboard the USS Oriskany aircraft 
working the integrated weapons system during the Vietnam conflict. After
 being discharged from the Navy, he moved to Santa Maria, California. 
Ronald started his own electrical business called "R and D Electrical", 
worked at Mighty Motors, then as a mechanic at Ted R. Smith Aerostar. 
Santa Maria is where he met the love of his life, Donna Squires. They 
got married in 1975 and moved to Junction City, Kansas, where they made 
their home. After moving to Junction City, he continued his electrical 
business “R and D Electrical” later renamed “Lamplighter Electric”. Over
 the years, Ronald worked for the Foundry, Whitaker Cable, and Woolworth
 Distribution Center. He installed many electronic gates and alarm 
systems for Tri City Fence and Kansas Fence. Ronald also did electrical 
work for IHOP restaurants. Ronald began his Civil Service career on Fort
 Riley in 1979. He started as an electrician and worked his way into the
 Electrical Engineering Department. Ronald retired from his career in 
2001, after 22 years of service. Ronald and his wife, Donna, were
 members of the Santa Maria Saddleites Motorcycle Club when they lived 
in California. Ronald served as a Deputy Reserve Officer with the Geary 
County Sheriff's Department for 25 years. He and his wife were also 
apart of the Geary County Sheriff's Mounted Posse until it disbanded. 
Ronald was a lifetime member of the VFW, having recieved the "Quilt of 
Valor" on September 15, 2019. In his free time, he loved 
watching John Wayne movies and hanging out at Stacy's or IHOP drinking 
coffee. Anybody that knew Ron, knows that he had a story for everyone 
and every occasion. His stories will be greatly missed by his friends 
and family. Ronald is survived by his wife of 47 years, 
Donna; step daughter, Christy (Bobby) Svedeen; step grandson, Michael 
(Francis) McKeague; step great-granchildren, Elizabeth, Emily, and

Cheryl Brooks, age 70, Grand Forks, ND, passed away at her home on 
Friday, February 17, 2023, after a courageous battle with multiple 
medical issues.

Cheryl was born October 8, 1952, to Howard and Pauline (McDonald) 
Brooks in Champaign, Illinois.&nbsp; She was the oldest of six children, 
growing up on the family farm/ranch by Rhame, ND.&nbsp; Cheryl loved her 
horses, working cattle, and raising her 4-H steers.&nbsp; She graduated from 
Rhame High School as Valedictorian of the class of 1970, setting the bar
 for her siblings.&nbsp; Cheryl attended NDSU in Fargo, ND receiving a B.S. 
in Bacteriology in 1974.&nbsp; While at NDSU she joined the Kappa Delta 
sorority, serving as an active member and alumni throughout her life.

Cheryl worked at a cancer research lab at Kansas State, Manhattan, 
Kansas, for several years until health issues caused her to choose a new
 career path.&nbsp; She went back to NDSU and got an M. S. in Counseling in 
1982.&nbsp; in 1984 Cheryl moved to Grand Forks and worked for the ND Office 
of Vocational Rehabilitation.&nbsp; She later joined UND Disabled Student 
Services, working with students to determine accommodations to help them
 be successful at UND.&nbsp; Cheryl loved helping the students and made many 
good friends at UND during her years there.&nbsp;&nbsp; After she retired, she 
especially enjoyed being able to start her day at 11 am.

Cheryl was a much beloved daughter, sister, and favorite aunt.&nbsp; 
Family was very important to her, and she made a point of being there 
for family events even when they were far away.&nbsp; Cheryl enjoyed life, 
excelled in making friends, and keeping up with them throughout the 
years.&nbsp; She was a very intelligent, witty, empathetic and caring person,
 always willing to listen and share the wisdom she’d gained through her 
life experiences.&nbsp; Cheryl loved getting together with friends to enjoy a
 glass of wine, good food and lots of laughter.&nbsp;

Cheryl was always a strong and independent person, who loved her 
little house, yard and patio.&nbsp; Cheryl and her family were very grateful 
for her friend, Marie Neuman, who chose to live with and take care of 
Cheryl as her health deteriorated over the last few years.&nbsp; Marie’s care
 allowed Cheryl to remain living in the home she loved so much.

Cheryl is survived by her mother, Pauline Brooks; her sister Tracy 
(Dave Lunn) Kralicek, her brother Rob (Holly) Brooks, sister-in-law 
Kathy (Steve) Rauscher,&nbsp; and sister-in-law Kristi Brooks; nieces Karin 
(Ty Nietupski) Kralicek,&nbsp; Kelly Kralicek, Dana (David) Cortade, Larissa&nbsp;
 (Jaron Reisenauer) Brooks, Kaitlin Brooks, and Jordan Brooks; and 
nephews Hank (Paige) Brooks, Ben (Paola) Brooks, Josh (Alina) Brooks, 
and Isaac Brooks.

She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Brooks, sister Dianne

Cheryl Brooks

Gloria E. Boetel, 83, of Valparaiso, Ind., passed away Monday, 
February 20, 2023.&nbsp; She was born May 17, 1939, in Pierce, Nebraska, to the
 late Gerhard and Dolores (Strelow) Kolterman.&nbsp; 

Gloria graduated from 
Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska and later finished with a
 Master’s from Valparaiso University in early childhood development.&nbsp; 

She was committed to Christ through teaching young children, Gloria 
taught for a year at Immanuel School in Grand Forks, ND, 3 years at 
Immanuel School in Junction City, KS, and 25 years at Immanuel Lutheran 
School in Valparaiso, where she started their kindergarten program.&nbsp; An 
active member at Immanuel Lutheran Church, she served in the choir and 
the Altar Guild.&nbsp; Gloria also enjoyed meeting with her friends at their 
weekly small group Bible study. 
On August 12, 1962, in Pierce, NE, Gloria married Robert Carl Boetel who 
preceded her in death in 2020.&nbsp; She is survived by her children, Brian 
(Eileen) Boetel, Yvette (Todd) Leffew, and Megan (William) Pendleton; 
grandchildren, Drew and Bret Boetel, Rashele, Schery, Bryce, and Trey 
Leffew, and Shea, and Parker Pendelton; and brothers, Paul (Trish), Don 
(Jane), and Harley (Karen) Kolterman.
