May 20, 1940, in&nbsp;<a href="https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/local/kansas/abilene">Abilene, Kansas</a>, to Harley and Alice (Shirk) Sexton, was raised in and attended K-12 in Junction City. She worked for Fegan Telephone in Junction City from 1957-1965. On Jun 7, 1959, Marilynn was united in marriage to Donald L Bielefeld at the First Christian Church in Junction City, where she has been a member since being baptized in the early 1950's. After moving to Chapman in 1970, Marilynn enjoyed maintaining the home and raising her two sons with Don. The family created lots of memories camping and boating at Milford Lake nearly every summer weekend, as well as gardening and putting up the bounty of produce. In later years, she and Don had season tickets and enjoyed cheering for KSU Women's Basketball.

Marilynn along with Don were active members of NARFE, Old Trooper, Junction City, Chapter No 0383. Marilynn always enjoyed a friendly card game and playing Scrabble. In 2019, Don and Marilynn moved to Junction City, where they made new friends and transitioned to a slower pace. 

Survivors include husband, Don, Junction City; son, Doug (Michele) Bielefeld, Pomona, KS; son, Todd (Scott Pittman) Bielefeld, Wichita; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and four nieces. Marilynn was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Verleen Byrn.

Visitation will be at Londeen-Overlease Funeral Home in Chapman from 6-8 pm, Tuesday, September 10, and the funeral at the First Christian Church in Junction City at 11 am, Wednesday, September 11. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Junction City.

Carlos Chairez was born to Elda on November 11, 1991, in Emporia, Kansas. He passed away on September 1, 2024, in Manhattan, Kansas.

Known for his kind heart, Carlos had a unique ability to strike up conversations with random strangers as if he had known them for years. He had a charming smile and a way of making people feel loved. He enjoyed starting his day with breakfast at his favorite restaurant, The Chef. Carlos cherished living in the moment, as if it were his last day, frequently reminding his loved ones, especially his family, of his deep affection for them and capturing every moment through photographs.

He adopted a fearless approach to life, pursuing hobbies such as bull riding, attending rodeos and mixed martial arts, and supporting his favorite athlete, Conor McGregor. Carlos's love for Boston was evident, and he aspired to live there to be close to his beloved Red Sox. He took immense joy in watching movies and listening to music.&nbsp;

Carlos was a good son, brother, great uncle, and friend. Carlos meant more to his family than he ever understood. He gave his life to the Lord and is now in heaven with his brother Jovany. Carlos will be missed and will live forever in our hearts. We will miss him deeply.

John Harold Taylor (79) was born on February 27th, 1945 in Junction City, Kansas, to Harold and Doris (Shull) Taylor. John grew up in Junction City and graduated from Junction City High School. He graduated from Kansas State University in Economics and later the University of Kansas Law School. John entered into the bar and was initially a prosecutor in Junction City before entering private practice in Junction City and later Manhattan. He finished his law career in Junction City as a Geary County Prosecutor.

John married Dr. Barbara Diane Dempsey, his wife of 45 years, at All Faiths Chapel at Kansas State University in 1979. They had two children: Dustin Taylor (Lindsay) and grandchildren Nora, Finn, and Murphy of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Dr. Matthew Taylor (Elisa) and granddaughter Hazel of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

John is survived by his wife Diane; sons Dusty and Matt; sister Janice Moyer; brother in law Tom Dempsey; grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Marilyn Taylor; brothers in law Joel Dempsey, James Moyer, and Dave Suhling.

John and Diane lived on their farm in the Zeandale area where he juggled his law practice with his love of angus cows, tractors, baling hay (maybe) and horses. His children were active in 4-H which John remained a strong supporter. John was a ham radio operator and learned morse code for his Extra-Class License; his call sign was NMØM. He enjoyed visiting national parks, bringing back fond memories of his summers in college as a Park Ranger at Yellowstone National Park. He and Diane rode mules down to the Grand Canyon Base and stayed at Phantom Ranch on two occasions.

In his retirement, John enjoyed sports, especially attending Kansas State football games, his cattle and beloved dogs Smokey, Daisy, and Roxanne. All of his grandchildren loved spending time with Grandpa and Grandma on the farm.

Earl Eugene Baugher, 96, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. Born on February 24, 1928, in Friend, Kansas, he was the son of John and Ellen (Carlson) Baugher.

Earl married Kathryn M. Jones on December 28, 1952, in El Dorado Springs, Missouri.&nbsp;

After serving 4 years in the U.S. Air Force and being honorably discharged on September 11, 1954, he pursued higher education. Earl earned both a B.S. and M.S. from Kansas State University and went on to become a highly respected and awarded agriculture educator. He held teaching positions at Beloit High School and helped establish North Central Kansas Technical College in Beloit in 1964. In 1967, he joined the faculty at Kansas State University, where he remained until his retirement in 1993.

Earl was an active member of the Flint Hills Veterans Coalition, the Konza Kampers chapter of the Good Sam Camping Group, and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; daughters, Marsha Field of Hutchinson, KS, and Brenda (Vance) Taylor of Grand Forks, ND; son, Darin (Leslie) Baugher of Celebration, FL; brothers, Robert "Bob" Baugher of Austin, TX, and John "Jack" Baugher of Kansas City, KS; grandchildren, Alex (Lauren) Field, Paul (Emily) Field, Brittney (Jacob) Wynne, Derek (Carly Rustebakke) Taylor, Grace (Max Dunlap) Baugher, and Emily Baugher; and two great-grandchildren, Audrey and Henry Wynne.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dean, and his son-in-law Harry Field.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024, at College Avenue United Methodist Church, 1609 College Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas.&nbsp;

Eleanor Joyce (Flagler) Morlong of Manhattan, Kansas formerly of Clay Center, Kansas passed away September 6, 2024 at the Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice House in Manhattan. She was born October 4, 1940, on the family farm in Collyer, Kansas to Herman and Myrtle (Reeder) Flagler.

Always known as Joyce, she attended WaKeeney grade schools and later graduated from Trego Community High School. She then attended Emporia State University for 2 years.

On July 5, 1959, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Orrie (Ritchie) Morlong. They were blessed with two daughters: Pamela Renee and Kimberly Michelle.&nbsp;&nbsp;Joyce was a loving wife and mother where she was a homemaker until the girls left home.&nbsp;

&nbsp;In 1982, she went to work with her husband in his optometric practice where she was the office manager for 23 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Kansas Optometric Auxiliary, Lioness Club, and many bridge clubs. She greatly enjoyed camping, boating, sporting events, dancing, playing cards, gardening, cooking, playing the piano, and most of all loved her KU Jayhawks. She spent countless hours watching KU basketball and cheering them on.

She is survived by her daughters, Pamela (Tim) McNeil of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Kimberly (Jim) McDiffett of Manhattan, Kansas, and her four grandchildren: Adam McDiffett (Jennifer), Joshua McNeil, Michael (Tara) McDiffett and Rebecca (JJ) Lane. They were a source of great joy and family traditions. She is also survived by her 5 great-grandchildren: Jordan McDiffett, Briar McNeil, Easton McDiffett, Ella Lane and Logan Lane, plus many other nieces and one nephew.&nbsp;

&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Ritch; siblings Kay, Larry and Worley, along with a niece, and several other beloved relatives and friends.

Honoring Joyce’s wishes, a private ceremony will be held at a later date.

Joe Ann Wood Moore, 89, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away on Sept. 5, 2025, of natural causes.

Joe Ann was born and raised in Bledsoe County, TN. She attended Bryan College in Dayton, TN after high school. She married Chaplin Willard M. Moore in 1959 and joined him during service deployments to France, Germany, and Southeast Asia. She loved traveling, sightseeing, immersing herself in other cultures, foods, language and meeting new friends.

She was a member of the local Trinity Presbyterian Church for many years. She was an avid genealogist with many trips to Salt Lake City researching family relative histories. Her smile was contagious, and she was always looking to share in conversation on any topic.

Preceded in death by parent Tom and Ruth Wood, husband Chaplin Willard M. Moore, sister, Myrtle Agnes Wood Lee and survived by bother Claude Wood, many nephew, nieces, and great nephews and nieces. Joe Ann will be buried next to her husband Willard at Forest Hills Memorial Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN.

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Teresa Ann (Koon) Mann, passed away in peace with her family by her side on September 4, 2024 at the age of 80 in Mesa, Arizona.

Teresa was born on January 12, 1944 in Steubenville, Ohio, the daughter of Raymond and Maxine Koon. She married Jimmie A Mann on June 8, 1963 in Manhattan, Kansas at Seven Dolors Catholic Church. They lovingly adopted two children, Leslie and Kevin.

Teresa and Jimmie moved to Loveland, Colorado in August 1970, where they had successful careers, raised their family and thoroughly enjoyed all of the joys of the mountains of Colorado. They then moved back to Kansas to devote time to caring for their parents. In later years, they moved to Mesa, Arizona to be near family. Teresa enjoyed successful careers with Hewlett Packard and Ebert Mayo Design Group.

Teresa was a true friend, peacekeeper and a blessing of wisdom and comfort. She walked through life with a gentle strength and determination, touching the lives of those she encountered. She was often at Jimmie’s side as a dance partner, chef, mountain enthusiast, or taking on home improvement projects. She was always up for the tasks and adventures. She leaves behind a legacy of spirit, grace, devotion and love.

Teresa will be forever remembered and cherished by her husband of 61 years, Jimmie Mann, her children; Kevin and Leslie, her grandchildren; Teresa B, Alexandra, Zachary, Elizabeth, Jacob and Cecilia; her siblings Janet Morris and Mary Kay Dollar. She was predeceased in death by her parents; Raymond and Maxine Koon, and her siblings Charlene Rogers and Raymond Koon.

To commemorate her beautiful journey and to celebrate the love she spread, a graveside memorial service will be held in her honor at Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan, Kansas on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 11:00 am. We appreciate all who join us in person or spirit in remembering a truly remarkable woman.

Ralph Gilbert McHugh Sr. was born on a farm a mile south of Ogden, Kansas on July 19, 1935, to Miriam “Bud” McHugh and Elizabeth “Daisy” McHugh. He was the eighth of eight children.

His siblings preceding him in death were George McHugh, Alice Stickler, Annie Bradshaw, Betty Romanski, Mary Corliss, Mae Dailey, and Francis Rose. His mother and father would soon adopt five of his cousins, and so he had a dozen siblings in their three-bedroom home.

He was born in a house with no running water, no electricity, and no television. He was born to dirt farmers who made their keep 60-70 cents per hour if they were allowed to work.

Ralph would fondly recall the days growing up in Ogden with such a large family, in a house full of food and laugher. His first memory is of hiding in the cornfields surrounding Fort Riley Post and watching the calvary practice formations.

He later recalled fondly, in his adult years, his own home north of Lake Elbo, which was constantly beset by hordes of children, both of relation and of the neighborhood playing well into the twilight of the day. Half of Lake Elbo spent their childhoods riding bikes, playing baseball, and generally staying out of trouble under the watchful eye of Ralph.

While he was not fond of school, proudly recalling that one year he missed 99 days of classes, he excelled in athletics available to a young boy in Ogden. Baseball, softball, basketball, and of course horseback riding, his first horse, Dusty, cost him $25 in 1952.

Proudly training Dusty, or rather her training herself as he put it, he would grin reminiscing about horseback rides around Ogden and across Post with other families of the community. He was from another time.

He spent a good three decades raising a family with his first wife Dorothy while working in facilities as a mason and painter for Kansas State University. He eventually took the lead role in housing maintenance at KSU’s Derby Dining Hall with much humility and hard work.

In his later years, he still could keep up with the hounds on a raccoon hunt and has on more than one occasion been referred to as “Old Indian” for his brash and deft hunting abilities. He loved the rivers, fields, and forests of his home, and spent much time in these places during his free time.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, Nolene McHugh.

He is survived by his five children: Ralph Gilbert McHugh Jr. (Mary Jo), Geralyn Carstenson, Pam Hendricks (Greg Hendricks), Randy McHugh, and Rhonda Briggs (Kelly Briggs). Fifteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren also survive him.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. Sunday September 22, 2024, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home. A Parish Vigil with the Rosary will be held following the visitation at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday September 23, 2024, at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ogden, with Father Gale Hammerschmidt as Celebrant. Inurnment will follow at the Ogden City Cemetery in Ogden. Following the inurnment there will be a reception at the Ogden Community Center.

Richard Wayne Oetinger, born in Clay Center, Kansas on November 15, 1945, to Donald Marvin Oetinger and Muriel Marie Oetinger (Bowers), passed away on August 30, 2024.

Richard graduated from Clay Center Community High School on May 27, 1963.

He was preceded in death by his sister Judy and brother Mike. Richard married Holly Ann Cummins in Wakefield, Kansas on June 18, 1967, and they shared 49 years of marriage before Holly’s passing on April 4, 2017.

Richard proudly served in the Kansas Army National Guard along with being a lifelong farmer in Clay County, later working in various other lines of work after moving off the family farm.

He is survived by his children, Sean Oetinger (wife Trisha) of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Stacy Schurle (husband Phil) of Clay Center, Kansas, and Shelly Rosenow (husband Dolan) of Clay Center, Kansas. Richard's legacy includes his beloved grandchildren, Meghan, Adelyn, Libby, Kylie, Tate, and Brody.

Roy G. Head, age 88, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan, KS. He was born on May 21, 1936, to Ray and Doris (Wieble) Head, Leonardville, KS.

Roy married Shari (Johnson) Head on August 26, 1957, in Junction City, KS.

Roy was an Army Reserve Veteran who obtained the rank of Second Lieutenant. After serving in the reserves, he worked as a teacher for one year before returning to college and earning a master's degree. He then had a thirty-year civil service career, finishing as a comptroller at Fort Riley. Roy was also an avid Kansas State fan.

Roy is survived by his wife, Shari, Manhattan, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roy was preceded in death by both parents; a sister, Bonnie Kidd, and his son, David Charles Head, who passed in 2012.

A celebration of Roy’s life will be held at Bottle Caps in Manhattan on Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 1-4 p.m.

He will be laid to rest at Milford Cemetery, Milford, KS at a later date.

Daniel Merle Clawson 82, passed on August 27, 2024, in his Manhattan, Kansas home overlooking the lake, surrounded by the love of his life, Jayette, family, and friends.

Born July 31, 1942, to U.S. Army officer Samuel Clawson and his wife Helen, Daniel was the second eldest of five children. Daniel pursued the family tradition of service, joining the U.S. Army.

Following his retirement in the late 1960s as a Disabled Veteran, he transitioned to become a civil servant supporting the Department of Defense for the U.S. Army and NOAA. In the early 1980s the family relocated from Texas to Northern Virginia where Daniel served in many capacities including the Chief, Army Acquisition Corps Management Office, Officer Personnel Management Directorate, Personnel Command; Chief, Career Management Operations, Personnel Command; and the Civilian Personnel Advisor to the Army Surgeon General, headquarters, Department of the Army.  During this time, Daniel continued advancing his education, completing Graduate Studies at George Mason University and Executive Leadership at the Federal Executive Institute.

In 1996 Daniel and Jayette moved to Fort Riley, Kansas where Daniel became the Director of the Southwest Personnel Operations Center and later U.S. Army Benefits Center.  As the senior department of army civilian for Fort Riley, Daniel was exceedingly proud of his time spent building and leading the men and women of these organizations.

At the conclusion of forty-three years of federal and military service, Daniel retired in 2003 and began his tenure as the CEO of Virtual Team Works, devoting the next eleven years to supporting the U.S. government in a consulting capacity.

After fifty-four years of employment, Daniel and Jayette began traveling with some favorite locations being Hawaii, Alaska, the Caribbean, and Europe. They also enjoyed ballroom dancing, following big bands, and traveling back to the east coast to spend time with family.

Daniel was a lifetime member of the DAV, and the American Legion, as well as a proud founding member of the National Museum of the U.S. Army.

Daniel is survived by his wife Jayette of fifty-nine years and their three children, Jaylynn Viands (Mike Viands), Samuel Clawson (Carrie Clawson), and Nathaniel Clawson (Megan Clawson), seven grandchildren and spouses (Andy Viands (Taylor), Nick Viands (Nuzhat), Jessica Gogolin (Andrew), Daniel Clawson, Joshua Clawson, Bailey Clawson, and Zachary Clawson), and three great-grandchildren (Grayson Viands, Wesley Viands, and Anaya Viands).

Sue was born September 30, 1944, in Manhattan, Kansas the daughter of Ned and Olivette (Schump) Wade. Sue graduated from Herington High School with the class of 1962. She later graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing with the class of 1966. She also attended Emporia Teacher's College in Emporia, Kansas for one year. Sue worked at as a nurse at Irwin Army Community Hospital. She also spent fifteen years working as a school nurse for USD 475 in Junction City, Kansas.

Sue was an avid quilter. She made many quilts for the White City Fourth of July celebration. She enjoyed reading and traveling. She was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church in Herington, Kansas. On August 14, 1983, she married Jack L. Swenson at the Episcopal Church of the Covenant in Junction City, Kansas. Sue is survived by her loving husband Jack; one son, Jason W. Swenson of Junction City, Kansas; two granddaughters, Lullaby and Augusta Swenson; one brother, Lyle Wade of Herington, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Christine who was stillborn.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp; Wendell Brooks, 65, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on August 22, 2024, in his home surrounded by his family. A funeral service is pending.

Wendell was born on April 19, 1959, to Marion Brooks, Sr. and Bernice (Bolden) Brooks in Saint Louis, Missouri. After graduating from high school, he enlisted into the U.S. Army on August 1, 1978. He served his country for 12 years, honorably leaving in June 1991. During his years in the military, he had four of his children with his wife, Ethel. After leaving the military he had his fifth. After his service, he worked construction for many years. He then switched careers for government contracting on Fort Riley.

Wendell's passion was working on his vehicles and finding that perfect bargain. His children can remember those days sifting through the D.A.V. or the local GoodWill with him. Education was very important to him. He made sure to instill this with his kids as they grew up. They continue to hold these traits today. 

Wendell's family was his top priority and he always made sure to be there for them. Wendell is survived by his wife, Ethel; four children, Jennifer Brooks of Junction City, Kansas, Michael Brooks of Junction City, Kansas, Barbara Brooks of San Antonio, Texas, and Robert Brooks of Junction City, Kansas; two grandchildren, Jordan and Adonis Brooks; four honorary grandchildren, Pax, Layla, Nathaniel, and Wyatt; his friends John Torres, Amy Fernandez, and Joel Celestin. &nbsp; Wendell Brooks, 65, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on August 22, 2024, in his home surrounded by his family. A funeral service is pending.Wendell was born on April 19, 1959, to Marion Brooks, Sr. and Bernice (Bolden) Brooks in Saint Louis, Missouri. After graduating from high school, he enlisted into the U.S. Army on August 1, 1978. He served his country for 12 years, honorably leaving in June 1991. During his years in the military, he had four of his children with his wife, Ethel. After leaving the military he had his fifth. After his service, he worked construction for many years. He then switched careers for government contracting on Fort Riley.Wendell's passion was working on his vehicles and finding that perfect bargain. His children can remember those days sifting through the D.A.V. or the local GoodWill with him. Education was very important to him. He made sure to instill this with his kids as they grew up. They continue to hold these traits today. Wendell's family was his top priority and he always made sure to be there for them. Wendell is survived by his wife, Ethel; four children, Jennifer Brooks of Junction City, Kansas, Michael Brooks of Junction City, Kansas, Barbara Brooks of San Antonio, Texas, and Robert Brooks of Junction City, Kansas; two grandchildren, Jordan and Adonis Brooks; four honorary grandchildren, Pax, Layla, Nathaniel, and Wyatt; his friends John Torres, Amy Fernandez, and Joel Celestin. &nbsp; Jerome D. Hires, 76, of Junction City, Kansas passed away on August 22, 2024, at Stormont-Vail Healthcare Topeka, Kansas.

Jerome was born on December 18, 1947, to Benjamin Frank Hires Jr. and Daisy Belle Philpot in Live Oak, Florida. Growing up with four siblings in Tampa, Florida, allowed him to realize the importance of family. He graduated from Middleton Senior High in 1966. His family and friends knew him as a devoted father and caring person. Being family oriented was very special to him. This allowed him to spend his free time with his children, grandchildren, and his extended family. Fishing was one of his favorite past-times. Some of his fishing holes would be Moon Lake, Breakneck Lake, and of course Milford Lake. Talented not only in fishing, but also in art and cooking as well. He made many family holiday dinners from scratch which will be remembered by his family. Some of his famous dishes to prepare was his Mac n Cheese, Collard Greens, Dirty Rice, and Deep Fried Turkey.

Russell, Tavon "Bun" Brown, Navonte Brown, and Lennox Davis; his friend and former spouse, Carol Hires of Junction City, Kansas. &nbsp; Jeffrey S. "Jeff" Koppenheffer, 54, of Junction City, Kansas died on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jeff will be cremated. A celebration of life service will be announced and held at a later date.

Jeff was born January 12, 1970, in Junction City, Kansas the son of Stephen and Sandra (Engstrom) Koppenheffer. Jeff graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1988. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Economics. It was important for him to go to college for an education. 

Jeff worked as a carpenter in Junction City for J &amp; S Construction. He was known in the community for his extensive historical work at Fort Riley with carpentry and masonry. He enjoyed metal detecting, playing golf, mushroom hunting and playing pool where he won a first place competition at Kansas State University. He also enjoyed competitive skeet shooting and spending time with his family.

On January 9, 2008, he married Monique Lafitte in Junction City, Kansas. Jeffrey is survived by his loving wife Monique "Nikki" of Junction City, Kansas; two sons, Justin Ortego and Jacob Reeves both of Junction City, Kansas; one daughter, Shelby Reeves of Junction City, Kansas; his father, Stephen Koppenheffer of Junction City, Kansas; one twin brother, Roger Koppenheffer of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Laura Cornejo of Mount Airy, Maryland; one grandson, Elliott Reeves with another on the way. &nbsp;Dora Darlene Bentz was born January 4, 1927 to Donald and Jennie (Warner) Bentz in Milford, Kan. Darlene passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024 at the age of 97 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

Darlene grew up in rural Milford, and attended High Point Country School near Milford, graduating from Milford High School in 1944. She attended Kansas State University under the emergency certificate during WWII, and then taught at the Wetzel Country School in eastern Geary County, at Acme School east of Milford, and at High Point west of Milford.

Darlene married Leslie L. Lacer in Milford on Jan. 7, 1948. They made their home in Junction City, and together raised three sons. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1989.Darlene was a homemaker, and a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Caring about and praying for her family was always a priority. She loved to host holiday celebrations at her home, and enjoyed gathering the family together. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Junction City, and served as Sunday School superintendent for the nursery through kindergarten department for many years. She was also a devoted member of the Tuesday morning ladies prayer group. She loved singing in the church choir for many years, and sang at many weddings and funerals. She was a lunchroom attendant for many years at Franklin School in Junction City, and was a member of the Railroaders. She volunteered for several years at the Geary County Historical Museum.

Darlene married Robert “Bob” Hiatt on Jan.10, 1995. Together they enjoyed travel and camping trips with the Coachman Camping Club. Together with Bob, she also delivered Meals on Wheels for many years, and took part in activities at the Geary County Senior Center. She was greatly loved, and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband, Bob, of the home in Junction City; three sons, David Michael Lacer, Wakefield, Steven Douglas Lacer and his wife Carol, Chapman, and Donald Edward Lacer and his wife, Lori, Junction City; eight grandchildren: Rachel Keck, Sarah Lacer, Jacob (Susan) Lacer, Joel (Melissa) Lacer, Brandon (Melanie) Deitrick, Jason Lacer, Joshua (Lesli) Lacer and Tina Lacer; 18 great grandchildren; a sister and brother in law, Charlotte and Larry Denver of Manhattan; many nieces and nephews; and Bob's children and grandchildren, who loved her as their own. Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, L.L. Lacer, her parents, Don and Jennie Bentz, two sisters, Mary Whittet and Dorothy Don Roether, and a stepson, Wayne Lacer and his daughter Brenna Lacer.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2024 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Ronnie Roberts officiating. A private burial with family will be held at a later time. &nbsp; Steven Thomas Jacoutot, 58, of Winfield, Kansas passed away on August 16, 2024, at the Kansas Veterans Home. Steve was born on May 25, 1966, to Thomas and Cynthia (Pfeiffer) Jacoutot at Kokomo, Indiana. He graduated from Haworth High School in the year 1984. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, he served his country honorably.

During his military years, he served as Military Police. His passion for law enforcement would follow him during his whole life. After his first contract with the U.S. Army, he joined the Army National Guard while serving his community with the Topeka Police Department. During his employment with the Topeka Police Department, he had many roles such as their D.A.R.E officer and working with their Cadet Program. After hours from his law enforcement duties, he taught Tae Kwon Do to the local youth at the community rec center. He himself attained the rank of 3rd Degree Black Belt.

After retiring from the Topeka Police Department, he decided to continue his higher education by returning back to school. He received a Master's Degree in Management Criminal Justice from Colorado Tech University in 2010. This was one of his proudest achievements.

Steve's family, friends, and co-workers will remember his jokes, smiles, and that infectious high pitch laugh that he had. He was the Super Bowl party host, always inviting his friends and family. He loved to host and doing so was his way of showing his love to the ones he cared about. Steven was an eternal optimist, one of his famous saying was, "It's just another day in paradise". Based on his faith, he is now finally right.Steven is survived by his loving mother, Cynthia; two sisters, Rebecca (Brian) Fye of Indiana and Suzanne (Graham) Roe of Indiana; one aunt, Cindy (Greg) Baker; one uncle, John Pfeiffer and one Godson, George Scharff. A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Rick Marrs and Pastor Tim McCall officiating. Marlene was born October 13, 1933, in Palmer, Kansas, the daughter of Emil and Clara (Rodehorst) Rahe. She was raised on a farm with her three brothers and graduated as valedictorian from Linn High School in 1951. After graduating, she worked for REA in Clay Center, Kansas and Kansas Power and Light in Salina, Kansas. On July 11, 1965, she married Orville Jerry Smith in Salina, Kansas. They moved to Junction City, Kansas where they lived and worked for over 50 years.

Marlene worked for many years for Geary County Public Schools as a secretary at Junction City High School. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Junction City, serving on the Evangelism Committee, singing in the choir, participating in Bible Study, making quilts with the Mission Sewers group, and volunteering within both the church and school. She supported the Geary County 4-H as a volunteer as well as volunteering as an election worker for Geary County.

In her free time, Marlene was an avid supporter of Junction City High School athletics and attended games with Jerry whenever possible. She was a loyal Kansas State fan, attending and watching games with family to cheer on the Wildcats as often as she could. Marlene was well known for frequently sending cards and letters to friends and family, and even regularly sending well wishes and encouragement to coaches and athletes from Junction City High School. She loved baking cookies and making other treats to share with friends and family and giving generously to many charities. Above all, she loved her family with her whole heart and soul as a wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma, and was a loyal, supportive friend and faithful servant of the Lord.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene Henry Baumfalk was born August 31, 1935 in Hitchcock County to Alvin and Hannah Pollmann Baumfalk and entered Heaven on August 21, 2024. Alvin passed away when Eugene was only eight years old. Hannah later remarried Harry Hein and two more brothers and a sister were added to the family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene graduated High School from Culbertson and lived in the Culbertson and the McCook area his entire life. Eugene enlisted in the United States Army in March 1959 and was honorably discharged in July 1960. On November 21, 1964, Eugene married Cleta Riley Felker. Eugene became a father to Donald, Ray and Lori with this marriage and in 1971 Eugene and Cleta welcomed another son, Paul.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene worked at the McCook Meat Packing Company for several years before going into business for himself laying carpet. Gene excelled at this trade and spent many years at it providing for his family. Eugene bowled on a bowling team for many years; 35 years of them with his son, Don. Bowling was one of the loves of his life along with fishing. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and New York Yankee fan and loved to watch them on TV with Cleta. Eugene also loved animals, but the true loves of his life were his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours caring for his grandchildren. Eugene was a kind and loving man with a deep love for his Lord and Savior. He will be deeply missed by his family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Preceding him in death were his parents, Alvin Baumfalk, Hannah and Harry Hein; brothers, Kenneth Baumfalk, Gerald Hein and Robert Hein; daughter, Lori Hoff; grandson, Jordan Baumfalk and special niece, Jackie Baumfalk.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cleta; sons, Don (Lisa) Felker, Ray Felker, and Paul (Adrienne) Baumfalk all of McCook; grandchildren: Wade (Mandie) Felker, Nicole (Jon) Olsen, Morgan (Ty) Sackett, Kamber (Zachary) Jones, Jay (Angie) Baumfalk, Kaylee Williams and Nick Baumfalk; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Janice Kraus; sisters-in-law: Shirley Riley, Sharon Meints, Jan Hein and Barbara Hein; nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Cremation was chosen and memorial services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Monday morning, August 26, 2024 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Pastor Alisa Parde officiating. Inurnment with full military honors will take place at a later date in Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, Nebraska.

Alvin passed away when Eugene was only eight years old. Eugene Henry Baumfalk (1935-2024)

Sheron L. Swearingen, age 75, of Blue Rapids, passed away in Manhattan after a short illness on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

Sheron was born April 30, 1949, at Kansas City, Missouri, to Charles W. and Margaret “Mickie” (Jopling) Dixon. She spent most of her childhood living in Lake Latawana, Missouri. She graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School. She was married to Rankin “Rank” Swearingen at their home outside Blue Rapids in 1992. He passed away in 2019.

Right after high school Sheron went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad, first in Kansas City, Kansas and then transferred to Marysville in 1985. Her last job at the railroad was as an Engineer. She retired from the Union Pacific after twenty-six years of work so she could be home more. She then worked for Titan Trailer Manufacturing in paint repair until her retirement. Looking for something to do, she worked the donut shift at Casey’s part time, until totally retiring.

Some of her favorite memories included, time with family, Thanksgiving and swimming. The times she traveled with Dan to Scotland and Ireland, ____ Republic, Puerto Vallarta, and Costa Rica, and their first trip which was to Hawaii. Float trips each summer with Dan,____ and Buffy. One on one time with the grandkids, and her many hobbies.

Survivors include her son Dan M Engle of Manhattan, daughters Amber Swearingen of Blue Rapids and Jackie Swearingen of Wymore, Nebraska, six grandchildren: Zoe’, Rylee, Ashlynne, Blaise, Ryker and Maverick Rankin, a brother Mike Dixon of Axtell and a sister Shannon (Shawn) Huffman of Wymore, Nebraska.

Preceding Sheron in death were her husband Rank, parents Charles and Mickie, and a brother Bradley Meade.

Respect calls will be from noon to 8:00 pm, Saturday, August 24, 2024, with a visitation from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home, Waterville.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Prospect Hill Cemetery, north of Blue Rapids, with Mr. Rod Christie officiating. Special recorded music will be “God Bless The Broken Road”. Casket Bearers are to include: Dan Engle, Jeff Nelson, Cassidy Dixon, Mike Dixon, Andy Peregrine and Shawn Huffman. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
