Lady Jays defeat SM North

JUNCTION CITY, Kan. - The Junction City Lady Jay basketball team bounced back from Thursday night's loss at Shawnee Mission South on Friday, defeating the Shawnee Mission North Indians 51-42. 

After trailing 8-6 at the end of the first quarter, JC drew even with the Indians at halftime, tied at 19. In the second half, the Blue Jays would strike, outscoring SM North 17-10 in the third quarter, reaching leads as large as 13 points. 

In the fourth, the Lady Jays would outscore the Indians 15-13, snapping a three-game losing streak with a 9-point victory inside Shenk Gym. 

Junction City was lead by a career performance from Senior Mellana Davis, who tallied 26 points. Lucy Rivera added 17 points, with 6 from Dorian Robinson, and 2 from Andrea Davis. 

Junction City will be back in action on Tuesday, January 26 against Centennial League rival Topeka West. Tip-off will be at 6 p.m. for the Lady Jays, with the boys to follow at 7:45.
