The Junction City Blue Jays boys basketball team won an invite to the Kansas State High School Activities Association Boys Class 6A State Basketball Championship for the first time in 22 years.
The Blue Jays, the No. 8 seed of the tourney, faced off against the Wichita Heights High School Falcons, the No. 1 seed, at Wichita State University's Koch Arena Wednesday night.
Junction City kept the game fairly tight during the first half, going into the locker room at halftime only down by 4, on the power of a trio of 3-point baskets by Jackson Austin.
The Falcons' athleticism, however, was simply too much to handle in the second half as the Blue Jays were defeated 67-44.
Junction City was lead in scoring by Jackson Austin with 12 points.
Wichita Heights advances to 21-2, and to the semi-finals on Friday night. Junction City falls to 13-10 to end their 2022-2023 season.
