The Junction City Blue Jays kicked off their 2024 season against the Haysville-Campus Colts on Friday night. The Blue Jays scored their first touchdown of the season on a 58-yard punt return for a touchdown by junior Scholar Brown. Junction City cruised to a 55-0 victory.
The Blue Jays got it done on all sides of the ball, including two punt returns for a touchdown, a fumble recovery in the end zone by Jalen Morgan, and several rushing touchdowns.
Another offensive highlight was a 62-yard connection from junior quarterback Conrad Gomez to junior wide receiver JaMarcus Vornes for a touchdown. Junction City led 48-0 at halftime and rested most of their starters in the second half.
The Blue Jay defense also had a dominant performance from the whole unit to start the season.
Junction City head football coach Randall Zimmerman, now in his 31st year at the head of the program, expressed how pleased he was with his team and said he appreciated how hard the kids played.
With the win, Junction City is 1-0 on the season. The Blue Jays now have a short week, as they will host Lawrence High School next Thursday night at Blue Jay Stadium for their home opener.
