JUNCTION CITY — July 4, 2024 marks the 48th year for the Junction City Freedom Run, which will take place as part of the Freedom Fest celebration. Registration is now open for the 1-mile, 5K and 10K. This year's run will begin in downtown Junction City with the finish remaining in Heritage Park. All races will begin at 7:30 a.m.

The Freedom Run Independence Day tradition, now in its 48 year, was founded on the idea of community connections, where freedom is celebrated and honored. Runners will simultaneously depart for all three courses at the intersection of 6th and Washington.

If you’re not a runner but would still like to be involved in this July 4th event, sign up to volunteer. The Freedom Run prides itself on fun water stops, excitement along the courses as you help with traffic and a unique finish line experience. If you’re interested in either opportunity, send a message to the Freedom Run – Junction City Facebook page.

The committee thanks the following community agencies collaborating to make this event a highlight of the holiday weekend:

● Junction City Fire Department

● Junction City Police Department

● Geary County Sheriff's Department

● Geary County Rural Fire Department

● City of Junction City

● Fort Riley Directorate of Emergency Services and Public Works

● Red Dirt Racing
