The Junction City Blue Jay boys basketball team began their season Friday night in Atchison. The Blue Jays beat the Phoenix 74-51.
After trailing early in the game 9-8, the Junction City Blue Jays went on a 33-6 run to end the first half and led the Phoenix 41-15 at halftime.
The Blue Jays suited up 13 players for the varsity roster, and all 13 played in the game. Nine of the 13 scored. Junction City was led in scoring by junior point guard Lovell Autry, who had 23 points. The only other Blue Jay in double figures was senior center Larkin Turner with 12 points.
With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 1-0 on the season, and Atchison falls to 0-1.
The Atchison Phoenix are led by head coach Pat Battle, who previously was the head coach at Junction City High School from 2011 to 2016.
Junction City is back in action next weekend. The Blue Jays will play at Hays on Friday night and at Dodge City on Saturday.
