Junction City Blue Jay football has completed one week of practice in the 2021 season, and head coach Randall Zimmerman is giving good reviews. "We had a really really good week and I really liked what we saw on Saturday morning. You could tell kids worked really hard, focused on their assignments and how to play the game." The team scrimmaged on Saturday morning at Al Simpler Stadium.

Zimmerman wants to mix up the offense with both running and throwing. "We're still working on catching the ball, our routes are good, we're getting better with our run blocking.  with our run. We just need to catch the football a little bit more.

Zimmerman said the offensive line should be a strength and defense should be a big strength. "We have a few guys returning on that side of the ball and some really good leaders, and they've shown that they understand what they're doing right now. "

Some of the players on defense include Elijah Boyd-Carter, Michael Boganowski, Rudy Vargas, Keghan McConnell, Donque Williams and Chaz Ruffin. Randall Banks has moved from defense to offense for this season. Among the older quarterbacks in the program are David Rowell and Xavion Felton. TJ Osa and Logan Nabus are leaders on the offensive line and Zimmerman mentioned Garrett McCreath as really improved.

The Blue Jays open the season Sept. 2 in Topeka against the Topeka High Trojans.
