The Geary USD 475 Board of Education has approved the hiring of Rick Bazan to serve as the head wrestling coach at Junction City High School.

Bazan was a longtime assistant wrestling coach at JCHS for approximately 15 years, primarily under former head coach Bob Laster. He has been a youth wrestling coach in the community and has been an assistant football coach at JCHS for three years. He also serves as director of the Junction City Athletic Training Center and the Upper Deck Sports Academy.

Bazan wrestled for the Blue Jays in high school. In his senior season in 1985 he captured a state championship at 132 pounds, finished second in 1983 and 1984, and 4th at state in 1982.

Bazan's hiring was contained in the personnel report approved by the USD 475 Board of Education during a special meeting on Friday. At JCHS he will succeed Aryus Jones, who had resigned.
