BUTLER COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a homicide and have a suspect in custody.

Just before 4p.m. Sunday, a family in Andover called police to request a welfare check on an 81-year-old woman at an apartment in Andover, according to Police Captain Ben Graber.

Police discovered the woman had been assaulted. EMS transported her to an area hospital where she died.

Investigators learned the woman had picked up a 23-year-old relative who was released from jail and brought him to her apartment.&nbsp;

Police located the suspect driving in Wichita and attempted a traffic stop. He ran from officers but was eventually arrested and remains hospitalized, according to Graber.&nbsp; Authorities have not released the name of the victim.

Relative just out of jail allegedly killed 81-year-old Kan. woman

KANSAS CITY —A Kansas City man who injured two United States deputy marshals by crashing into them while attempting to flee in a stolen truck was sentenced in federal court today for forcibly resisting federal law enforcement officers, according to the United State's Attorney.

Ray E. Clevenger, 47, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs to 10 years and 10 months in federal prison without parole.

On Jan. 5, 2022, Clevenger pleaded guilty to two counts of forcibly resisting a federal law enforcement officer.

Law enforcement officers located Clevenger, who was being sought on a state felony arrest warrant, at a Quality Inn in Kansas City, Mo., on Dec. 30, 2020. Clevenger left his hotel room shortly after noon with a woman and got into a Ford Explorer, which was later identified as stolen. Officers activated their flashing multi-colored police emergency lights and sirens as they approached Clevenger.

Clevenger quickly accelerated the Explorer from the parking space it had been backed into, and struck the front of a police vehicle. Clevenger continued to attempt to escape while recklessly driving the Explorer at a high rate of speed. Clevenger drove across the hotel’s parking lot with his tires squealing and drove near the exit on the west side of the property. A federal deputy marshal attempted to prevent Clevenger from leaving the parking lot by positioning his police vehicle in front of the exit and striking the Ford Explorer, causing Clevenger to lose control of his vehicle. Clevenger regained control of the vehicle, then fled across the hotel’s lawn and sidewalk toward the east side of the property. Another deputy marshal struck Clevenger’s vehicle on the passenger rear wheel well to prevent his escape. Clevenger continued to flee and returned to the west side of the property, where he rammed one of the police vehicles for the second time with enough force to push the SUV into a fence that surrounded the parking lot. Clevenger pushed the police vehicle with enough force that it also struck another police vehicle, which in turn struck a deputy marshal who was on foot.

Clevenger’s vehicle then stopped, and he was arrested. Officers searched Clevenger’s stolen vehicle and found a Springfield .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun that had been reported stolen, loaded with an extended magazine, a makeup case that contained approximately 69 grams of methamphetamine and marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

The two deputy marshals suffered physical injuries because of Clevenger’s reckless driving while attempting to avoid arrest. Those injuries required one of the deputy marshals to be treated by emergency medical officials at the scene. The other deputy marshal was provided medical care and instructed to seek follow-up medical care.

KC man sentenced for crash in stolen SUV into U.S Marshals

JACKSON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating two suspects on drug charges after a traffic stop.

Just after 1a.m. Friday, a sheriff's deputy stopped a 2009 Jeep Compass near 150th and Q. Road for an alleged traffic infraction, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

An occupant of the vehicle, allegedly attempted to discard a meth pipe in the ditch during the stop.

 A  search of the Jeep led to the discovery of more contraband.&nbsp; Deputies arrested and booked Barbara Michelle Morris, 39, of Olathe into the Jackson County Jail for distribution of methamphetamine, possession of a hallucinogenic drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, and interference with law enforcement.

 Jason Wayne Alexander, 41, of Ottawa, was arrested booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of possession of Tramadol and drug paraphernalia.

Sheriff: Kan. suspect tried to discard meth pipe during traffic stop

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on multiple charges after a an arrest.

Just after 5a.m. Friday, a citizen called the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center regarding a suspicious vehicle parked in her driveway with a male driver, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) deputy observed a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck near SE Croco Road and SE 53rd Street that matched the description of the suspicious vehicle. 

The DRE deputy conducted a traffic stop when the Chevrolet failed to signal a right turn. During the investigation, it was determined that the driver was too impaired to drive and illegal narcotics were located.

The deputy arrested Tyler E. Schrock, 35, of Topeka and booked him into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of driving under the influence, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, transporting an open container of liquor and making an improper turn.

During the stop, the deputy found illegal narcotics. The deputy arrested a passenger in the vehicle, Arthur C. Hanney, 62, of Topeka and transported him to the Osage County Jail on requested charges of Possession of methamphetamine and Possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sheriff's K9 Unit helps arrest 62-year-old Kan. drug suspect

RILEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a woman for crimes involving small children.

Just after 2 p.m. Thursday, police arrested 26-year-old Maria Bryan of Manhattan on a Riley County District Court Warrant for aggravated battery and three counts of endangering a child, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

The arrest is in connection with a March 22, incident where where Bryan allegedly caused bodily harm to and placed a two-year-old girl in a situation where the child's wellbeing was endangered and a June 5,&nbsp; incident where she placed the same victim and a now seven-year-old boy in an additional situation where the child's wellbeing was endangered. 

Bryan remains jailed on a bond of $13,000, according to the RCPD.

Just after 5a.m. August 11, the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center received a burglary alarm at a bank in the 1700 block of North Washington Street in Auburn, Kansas, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

Deputies learned there was an attempted theft of an ATM. A K9 Unit located the suspect vehicle that refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle pursuit ended in the 5700 block of Southwest Urish Road and suspects fled.

The Shawnee County Sheriff's office asked residents from SW Fairlawn Road to Southwest Urish Road and Southwest 41st Street to Southwest 77th street, to be aware of any suspicious activity or individuals.

Just after 6p.m. that day, the sheriff's office reported they had arrested 35-year-old&nbsp; Trimaine Munroe Baker on requested charges of&nbsp;Aggravated criminal damage &gt;$5K; intent to obtain currency from automated cash dispenser/ATM, theft, burglary and&nbsp; Criminal damage to property; Without consent value $1000 to $25,000, according to online jail records.

"Thanks to assistance from citizens reporting timely information to deputies, Baker was apprehended near Southwest&nbsp; 53rd Street and Southwest Wanamaker Road, " according to Christian.&nbsp; The sheriff's&nbsp; office K9 units and drone operators assisted in this search, along with the Kansas Highway Patrol’s Aircraft Unit and the Topeka Police Department.

Frink is being held in the Shawnee County Department of Corrections and on requested charges of flee and elude, burglary, criminal damage, theft, attempted theft and criminal damage over $25,000.

Police capture wanted Kansas ATM theft suspect 

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Attorneys for a Colorado woman accused of killing her 11-year-old stepson in 2020 have requested a second evaluation of her mental health after the judge in the case received a state evaluation.

Letecia Stauch has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in the death of Gannon Stauch.&nbsp;After her March 2020 arrest in South Carolina Stauch was held in the Saline County, Kansas jail on her return to Colorado.

Fourth Judicial District Judge Gregory Werner set a Sept. 15 hearing after defense attorneys challenged the state report and requested that Stauch be evaluated again by defense-appointed psychiatrists,&nbsp;<a href="https://gazette.com/news/courts/letecia-stauch-deemed-sane-in-mental-health-evaluation-but-trial-on-hold/article_113ac830-247b-11ed-9969-2744676d63c6.html">The Gazette reported</a>.

The report on the sanity evaluation at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo wasn't released.

Prosecutors last year presented alleged evidence linking Stauch to the January 2020 murder. They said that investigators found Gannon’s blood on Stauch’s shoe, found her DNA on a gun linked to his death and learned that she traveled to the Florida Panhandle shortly after he disappeared. The child’s remains were found there in March 2020, authorities have said.

Defense attorneys had sought to create doubt that Stauch committed the murder by suggesting someone else could have entered their Colorado Springs home around the time Gannon died.

Stauch is charged with first-degree murder, child abuse resulting in death, tampering with a deceased human body and tampering with physical evidence.

After her March 2020 arrest in South Carolina Stauch was held in the Saline County jail on her return to Colorado.

Trial on hold for woman charged in stepson's death

MANHATTAN —Law enforcement authorities are investigating alleged child sex crimes and have made an arrest.

On Thursday, the Riley County Police Department arrested 39-year-old Leif Forster of Salina in connection to sex crimes reported to have occurred in Ogden between August 2021 and May 2022 involving two, now nine-year-old female victims.

Forster was arrested on a Riley County District Court warrant on requested charges of aggravated criminal sodomy and aggravated indecent liberties with a child. He remains confined in the Riley County Jail on a total bond of $500,000.

Deputies arrested 23-year-old Dakota Wilhite of Fairview on a requested charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

After further investigation in conjunction with Hiawatha Police, officials&nbsp; Wilhite was accused of aggravated indecent solicitation of a child under the age of 14, use of a communication facility to commit a felony and sexual exploitation of a child. The case will be presented to the Brown County Attorney.

Wilhite posted bond and is no longer in custody, according to online jail records.

Kansas man accused of child sex crimes, drug possession

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating two suspects on multiple charges after a drug&nbsp; bust.

On Monday, members of the Topeka Police Department Narcotics Unit and the Shawnee County Drug Task Force served a search warrant at a home in the 1700 Block SE Morrison Street, according to Lt. Ronnie Connell.

&nbsp;While conducting the search warrant, officers located methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, stolen property and firearms.

As a result, officers arrested 43-year-old Jason T. Fisher and 36-year-old Kimberly M. Harris both of Topeka.

&nbsp;Harris is being held on an arrest warrant and requested charges of Possession of opiate, opium, narcotic or certain stimulant, Possession of marijuana, Possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police find stolen property, firearms and drugs at Kan. home

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (AP) — A 28-year-old suburban Kansas City man was shot and killed by law enforcement officers who were trying to arrest him, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Michael Saunders, of Blue Springs, died in the shooting Tuesday afternoon.

Blue Springs Police Chief Bob Muenz said Saunders had shot at a Cass County sheriff's deputy during a pursuit a few days previously.

Deputies investigating that shooting followed Saunders to a Walmart on Tuesday and asked Blue Springs officers for backup as he left the store.

Saunders ran from the officers and allegedly fired at them, Muenz said. He was shot by two officers about a block away from the store. Muenz said he didn't know how many times Saunders fired at the officers.

He died at the scene. No officers were injured. The other person with Saunders was taken into custody.

Just before 8a.m. August 15, police were dispatched to a shooting in the 5200 block of East Gilbert in Wichita, according to a Officer Chad Ditch.

Upon arrival, Officers located 49-year-old Dennis Haynes unconscious and not breathing. Officers began life-saving measures.&nbsp; EMS&nbsp; transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 

The investigation revealed that Haynes and several other people were inside the residence when two armed men entered and shot the victim.

They then fled the scene on foot. On Saturday, police reported the arrest of&nbsp;<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=302365">Cavitt Jr.</a> in connection with the crime. On August 18, police reported the arrest of 21<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20069997">&nbsp;Conway</a>. They are each being held on bond of $500,000, according to the district attorney's office.

2 charged in Kansas home invasion killing

DOUGLAS COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities in Lawrence on Monday released police dash camera and body camera images of the July 31, high-speed chase through the community that led to the arrest of double homicide suspect 51-year-old Rodney Marshall.

Just after 1a.m. on July 31, police received 911 calls about shots fired in the 1100 block of Tennessee in Lawrence, according to Police spokesperson Laura McCabe.&nbsp;

Officers arrived at the home and found a 53-year-old man critically injured with gunshot wounds. Emergency Responders helped transfer him to a Kansas City trauma department where he was pronounced dead.&nbsp;

Not long after, another call came in about shots fired in the 300 block of Northwood Lane.&nbsp; Officers found another victim at that location.&nbsp; The 43-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Investigators worked through the night to identify a suspect, located him, and tried to pull him over in the 900 Block of Lawrence Avenue about 6:00 am.&nbsp;

The suspect later identified as 51-year-old Rodney Ericson Marshall did not comply and a led officers on a pursuit through town, down Haskell and to the Bypass accessing K-10 toward Kansas City.&nbsp;

Marshall fired several times at officers while on K-10 until eventually hitting the stop sticks near Eudora and was taken into custody.&nbsp; A female passenger was also in the car at the time of the arrest and was questioned by investigators.

This investigation involved multiple agencies, several locations, two victims, and the attempted murder of several Law Enforcement Officers, according to McCabe.

Marshall has previous convictions for aggravated assault, criminal threat, criminal deprivation of property and for drugs, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

  The passenger, Dwan Maurice Taylor Sr., 41, of Topeka, was arrested on requested charges that include felony interference with law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hallucinogenic drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sheriff: 4 Kansans jailed for meth in 3 Saturday traffic stops

A woman was injured when she fell off a moving motorcycle Sunday afternoon in south Salina, and the driver was arrested on outstanding warrants.

&nbsp;Just before 5p.m. Sunday, a 2006 Honda motorcycle driven by 36-year-old Jody Meyer, 36, was&nbsp; northbound in the 1900 block of S. Ohio Street in Salina. 

A 33-year-old female passenger identified as his wife fell off the motorcycle just north of the Albert Avenue intersection. The woman received scrapes, but was not transported to the hospital.

Officers working the incident discovered that Meyer had multiple active warrants from Salina Municipal Court. Police arrested Meyer on the warrants and the following requested charges that included no proof of insurance and driving with a suspended driver's license.

Wanted Kan. man jailed after motorcycle crash that injured his wife

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Strict anti-abortion laws that took effect in Oklahoma this year led to the quick shuttering of every abortion facility in the state, but left questions for those who work directly with women who may seek their advice or help getting an abortion out of state.

Beyond the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/abortion-science-health-medication-lupus-e4042947e4cc0c45e38837d394199033">profound repercussions</a>&nbsp;the abortion laws are having on medical care, especially reproductive medicine, clergy members, social workers and even librarians have raised concerns about being exposed to criminal or civil liability for just discussing the topic.

Those fears are well-founded, says Joseph Thai, a professor at the University of Oklahoma who teaches about constitutional law and the Supreme Court. He described Oklahoma's new anti-abortion laws, which include both criminal and civil penalties, as the strictest in the nation so far and sweeping in both substance and scope.

The U.S. Supreme Court's&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/abortion-supreme-court-decision-854f60302f21c2c35129e58cf8d8a7b0">decision in June</a>&nbsp;to overturn Roe v. Wade and remove women's constitutional right to abortion&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-of-the-united-states-oklahoma-bills-courts-supreme-courts-e1618c050c757894c0579b1fb9143e2a">immediately triggered</a>&nbsp;a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.oscn.net/applications/oscn/DeliverDocument.asp?CiteID=69402">1910 Oklahoma law</a>&nbsp;that makes it a felony, punishable by two to five years in prison, for every person who “advises" or provides any other means for a woman to procure an abortion. That law allows abortion only to save the mother's life.

“That all-encompassing language can make anyone and everyone who helps a woman get an abortion or provides information about access to abortion — including a spouse, another family member, a friend, a classmate or co-worker, a librarian, or even an Uber driver — a felon," Thai said. “Likewise, employers who have pledged to pay for their employees' abortions as part of their reproductive health coverage and their insurance companies face criminal liability."

Although Alabama, Arizona and Texas have laws prohibiting “aiding and abetting" a woman in getting an abortion, Oklahoma's is the strictest and the only one currently in effect, said Elizabeth Nash, a state policy analyst for the abortion-rights supporting Guttmacher Institute.

While former providers in Oklahoma may have halted abortions, they haven't stopped giving advice.

Emily Wales, CEO of Planned Parenthood Great Plains, said giving a pregnant woman information about abortion care is guarded under free speech protections in the Constitution.

“We’ve heard from providers who aren’t sure if they can make referrals, if they can even tell people to go to Planned Parenthood’s website or abortionfinder.com,” Wales said. “We don’t think there’s any controversy about being able to tell people what their options are and that they can access care in another state.”

Others, however, are more concerned. No charges have been filed in the seven weeks since the law against advising or helping a woman get an abortion went into effect and it's not known whether anyone is being investigated. Messages left with several Oklahoma prosecutors about how they plan to enforce the anti-abortion laws were not returned, and the head of the state's District Attorneys Council, Kathryn Boyle Brewer, said the issue hasn't been formally discussed by prosecutors at its regular meetings.

Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat, an Oklahoma City Republican who wrote the trigger law, said he believes those who help a woman get an abortion should be prosecuted, although he said it's unlikely prosecutors would go after a pregnant woman's family members.

“Absolutely, if you’re going to aid and abet in a felony, you should be held responsible," Treat said. “Where the bigger issue is is where these corporations are offering to pay $4,000 to help you kill an unborn life and knowingly go around Oklahoma’s statutes.

“Since this has been in effect, there haven’t been any prosecutions. The good news is people are not having abortions in Oklahoma, and thus far there has not been a case where someone is aiding and abetting in such a way that can be prosecuted."

<a href="https://apnews.com/article/abortion-us-supreme-court-health-texas-oklahoma-ad37e8db8a0f3fd9f4fcd215f8a3ed0a">A separate law</a>&nbsp;passed by Oklahoma's Republican-controlled Legislature this year that was modeled on a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/abortion-texas-courts-bills-health-adaf9baabf57a425c8596454286842d0">Texas law</a>&nbsp;allows anyone to sue “any person" who aids and abets a woman in getting an abortion and collect a minimum $10,000 award plus attorney fees.

“Notably, none of these criminal or civil laws limit their language to abortions performed in Oklahoma," Thai added. “So anyone in Oklahoma who helps a woman get an abortion outside of Oklahoma, such as in neighboring Kansas, arguably could be prosecuted or sued under these sweeping laws."

The Rev. Lori Walke, senior minister at Mayflower Congregational Church in Oklahoma City, said that's left some religious leaders wondering about their potential legal exposure for helping women navigate abortion services.

“Among my colleagues the conversation has been: `This is a risk we have to be willing to take because abortion bans are against our religion,' to put it directly," Walke said, adding that sometimes advocacy work by faith leaders includes the possibility of arrest and incarceration.

Similar concerns are being raised by social workers, many of whom believe a prohibition on advising women about abortion services conflicts with their code of ethics that requires them to respect a client's wishes, said Steven Pharris, head of Oklahoma's chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.

“The changes in laws have kind of criminalized a big part of what we do, so it's changed our role with clients," Pharris said. “It's created a chilling effect on what we can and can't say."

At one point,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.vice.com/en/article/4axwqw/oklahoma-threatens-librarians-dont-use-the-word-abortion">librarians in Oklahoma City</a>&nbsp;were warned not to even say the word “abortion,” though that changed after the city library system’s team reviewed the laws, said Larry White, the system’s head.

White says staff has since been instructed to handle requests for information about abortion like any other reference question, where they provide factual, sourced information and answer questions about the subject. Some staffers remain uneasy, though.

“There are a lot of unknowns," White said. “We do not want to put our staff in any way in any danger of receiving civil liabilities under this law if we can prevent it. We also have an obligation to protect them and the organization from civil liability."

 </figure>OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Strict anti-abortion laws that took effect in Oklahoma this year led to the quick shuttering of every abortion facility in the state, but left questions for those who work directly with women who may seek their advice or help getting an abortion out of state.Beyond the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/abortion-science-health-medication-lupus-e4042947e4cc0c45e38837d394199033">profound repercussions</a>&nbsp;the abortion laws are having on medical care, especially reproductive medicine, clergy members, social workers and even librarians have raised concerns about being exposed to criminal or civil liability for just discussing the topic.Those fears are well-founded, says Joseph Thai, a professor at the University of Oklahoma who teaches about constitutional law and the Supreme Court. He described Oklahoma's new anti-abortion laws, which include both criminal and civil penalties, as the strictest in the nation so far and sweeping in both substance and scope.The U.S. Supreme Court's&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/abortion-supreme-court-decision-854f60302f21c2c35129e58cf8d8a7b0">decision in June</a>&nbsp;to overturn Roe v. Wade and remove women's constitutional right to abortion&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-of-the-united-states-oklahoma-bills-courts-supreme-courts-e1618c050c757894c0579b1fb9143e2a">immediately triggered</a>&nbsp;a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.oscn.net/applications/oscn/DeliverDocument.asp?CiteID=69402">1910 Oklahoma law</a>&nbsp;that makes it a felony, punishable by two to five years in prison, for every person who “advises" or provides any other means for a woman to procure an abortion. That law allows abortion only to save the mother's life.“That all-encompassing language can make anyone and everyone who helps a woman get an abortion or provides information about access to abortion — including a spouse, another family member, a friend, a classmate or co-worker, a librarian, or even an Uber driver — a felon," Thai said. “Likewise, employers who have pledged to pay for their employees' abortions as part of their reproductive health coverage and their insurance companies face criminal liability."Although Alabama, Arizona and Texas have laws prohibiting “aiding and abetting" a woman in getting an abortion, Oklahoma's is the strictest and the only one currently in effect, said Elizabeth Nash, a state policy analyst for the abortion-rights supporting Guttmacher Institute.While former providers in Oklahoma may have halted abortions, they haven't stopped giving advice.Emily Wales, CEO of Planned Parenthood Great Plains, said giving a pregnant woman information about abortion care is guarded under free speech protections in the Constitution.“We’ve heard from providers who aren’t sure if they can make referrals, if they can even tell people to go to Planned Parenthood’s website or abortionfinder.com,” Wales said. “We don’t think there’s any controversy about being able to tell people what their options are and that they can access care in another state.”Others, however, are more concerned. No charges have been filed in the seven weeks since the law against advising or helping a woman get an abortion went into effect and it's not known whether anyone is being investigated. Messages left with several Oklahoma prosecutors about how they plan to enforce the anti-abortion laws were not returned, and the head of the state's District Attorneys Council, Kathryn Boyle Brewer, said the issue hasn't been formally discussed by prosecutors at its regular meetings.Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat, an Oklahoma City Republican who wrote the trigger law, said he believes those who help a woman get an abortion should be prosecuted, although he said it's unlikely prosecutors would go after a pregnant woman's family members.“Absolutely, if you’re going to aid and abet in a felony, you should be held responsible," Treat said. “Where the bigger issue is is where these corporations are offering to pay $4,000 to help you kill an unborn life and knowingly go around Oklahoma’s statutes.“Since this has been in effect, there haven’t been any prosecutions. The good news is people are not having abortions in Oklahoma, and thus far there has not been a case where someone is aiding and abetting in such a way that can be prosecuted."<a href="https://apnews.com/article/abortion-us-supreme-court-health-texas-oklahoma-ad37e8db8a0f3fd9f4fcd215f8a3ed0a">A separate law</a>&nbsp;passed by Oklahoma's Republican-controlled Legislature this year that was modeled on a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/abortion-texas-courts-bills-health-adaf9baabf57a425c8596454286842d0">Texas law</a>&nbsp;allows anyone to sue “any person" who aids and abets a woman in getting an abortion and collect a minimum $10,000 award plus attorney fees.“Notably, none of these criminal or civil laws limit their language to abortions performed in Oklahoma," Thai added. “So anyone in Oklahoma who helps a woman get an abortion outside of Oklahoma, such as in neighboring Kansas, arguably could be prosecuted or sued under these sweeping laws."The Rev. SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating several cases involving gunshots in the Topeka area and have made an arrest.

Kan.  brothers jailed after multiple reports of gunshots 

SALINE COUNTY – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) arrested a Salina man Friday connected to a 2011 murder, according to a media release from the agency.

In March of 2019, the Saline County Sheriff’s Office requested KBI assistance to further investigate the February 17, 2011 death of 39-year-old Carol S. Williams that occurred in New Cambria, Kansas. KBI agents initiated an investigation.

Just after 11a.m. Friday, KBI agents arrested Steven Couch, Jr., 51, of Salina, at the Salina Municipal Court, 255 N. 10th Street in Salina. 

Couch was arrested for on requested charges of second-degree murder&nbsp; in the death of Carol Williams. She was his girlfriend at the time of her death.

Following the arrest, Couch was booked into the Saline County Jail. Bond was set at $1 million.

KBI: Kansas man jailed for the 2011 murder of his girlfriend

Gooden Heit remains confined in the Riley County Jail in lieu of bond.

FINNEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating the fatal stabbing of 58-year-old Robert Gallardo Molina in Garden City on Thursday have presented evidence to the Finney County Attorney, according to a media release from police.

Just after 5:30.m. Thursday, police were dispatched to the 400 block of E. Santa Fe Street in Garden City for a reported stabbing.

First responders found Molina stabbed inside the residence where relatives lived, according to a social media report. EMS transported Molina to St. Catherine Hospital, where he later died.

&nbsp;The evidence gathered in the case was reviewed by the Garden City Police Department and the Finney County Attorney’s Office. At this time, both police and the Finney County Attorney agree the evidence available provides probable cause that the suspect in this matter acted in self-defense, and therefore no arrests should be made, and no charges will be filed. 

If additional evidence comes to light indicating this homicide was not justified by self-defense, the Garden City Police Department and the Finney County Attorney will re-evaluate the case to determine if charges should be filed at that time.

First responders found Molina&nbsp; stabbed inside the residence where relatives lived, according to a social media report.

EMS transported Molina to St. Catherine Hospital, where he later died.

The initial investigation has determined Molina forced entry into the residence and was involved in an altercation with a man living there when Molina was stabbed.

Police have detained the individual.&nbsp; No arrest has been made.&nbsp;

Police: Fatal stabbing at SW Kan. home was in self-defense

RILEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating&nbsp; three suspects on multiple charges after a drug bust in Manhattan.

Just before 9a.m. Thursday, officers conducted a search warrant in the 1300 block of Colorado Street in Manhattan that led to three arrests and the recovery of a significant amount of meth, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

Antwine Berry, 60, of Manhattan was arrested on requested charges of distribution of meth within 1,000 feet of a school and possession of meth. Berry was issued a total bond of $35,000 and is no longer in&nbsp;

 DeShawn Gosha, 25, of Manhattan was arrested on a Grandview Plaza warrant for failure to appear that held a $500 bond.

 Kristanna Hill, 23, of Louisville, Kan. was arrested for possession of meth and a Riley County District Court warrant for probation violation. Hill remains confined in the Riley County Jail on a total bond of $8,000.

Search warrant drug bust led to arrest of 3 in Manhattan

SEDGWICK COUNTY— Two Kansas men arrested in connection with a fatal weekend shooting made their first appearance in court.

&nbsp;Christopher Dyas, 21, of Wichita is charged with first-degree murder and Saquorea Sweeney, 24, of Wichita is charged with obstructing apprehension or prosecution, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Just after 1:30a.m. August 15, police working part-time in the Old Town area of Wichita heard several gunshots just north of 126 N. Mosely, according to Office Chad Ditch. Moments later they heard gunshots near 100 N. Washington. 

Officers ran in the direction of the second round of shots and found&nbsp; 22-year-old Deandre Greenley, of Wichita unconscious and not breathing. He had several gunshot wounds to his upper body, according to Ditch.

First responders provided lifesaving efforts. EMS pronounced Greenley deceased on the scene.

Investigators learned that Dyas and Sweeney, both of Wichita&nbsp; arrived in a black 2008 Ford Edge. They then walked right up to Greenley, shot him several times striking him in the upper body and fled the scene.

Officers quickly determined the suspect vehicle from witnesses, cameras in Old Town and by <a href="https://www.flocksafety.com/">utilizing FLOCK</a>, according to Ditch, a system&nbsp; that captures the license plate and state details of every car that drives by, day or night.A short time later, police took both Sweeney and Dyas&nbsp; into custody in different areas of town without incident.&nbsp;<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20062686">Dyas</a> and <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20052114">Sweeney&nbsp;</a>remain in custody each on a $500,000 bond. Sweeney is due back in court August 29. A preliminary hearing for Dyas is scheduled for Sept. 1, according to the district attorney's office.
