FINNEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a stabbing and have a suspect in custody.

Just before 3p.m. Wednesday, police&nbsp; were dispatched to the northwest part of Garden City for a domestic situation, involving a man who had been stabbed by a woman known to him.

Officers learned that the man had returned to his residence after running errands and engaged in a verbal argument with the woman, identified as 36-year-old&nbsp; Maria Herrera-Chavez&nbsp; of Garden City.

Herrera-Chavez became upset and allegedly stabbed the man with a pocketknife, in the presence of a small child. The man was taken to St. Catherine Hospital, where he was treated and released for his injuries.

Herrera-Chavez was arrested and booked into the Finney County Jail on requested charges of Aggravated Domestic Battery and Aggravated Child Endangerment, according to the release.

Police: SW Kan. woman stabbed man in front of children

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A state legislator has been charged with two traffic violations over his late November arrest on Interstate 70 in northeast&nbsp;Kansas&nbsp;but not with driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, the potential crime initially listed by the Highway Patrol.

Democratic state Rep. Aaron Coleman, of Kansas City, also still faces a misdemeanor domestic battery charge in a separate criminal case in the Kansas City area over an Oct. 30 fight with his younger brother. Coleman pled not guilty, and a scheduling hearing in that case is set for Wednesday in Johnson County District Court.

In neighboring Douglas County, home to Lawrence and the main University of Kansas campus, Coleman faces charges of speeding and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle as required by law over a Nov. 27 stop. A complaint filed Jan. 21 by an assistant district attorney says Coleman was driving 92 mph when the post speed limit was 75 mph Together, the charges could result in several hundred dollars in fines.

Coleman is scheduled to have the charges formally read to him and enter a plea on April 15, during a break in the Kansas Legislature's annual session. His attorney did not respond to a telephone message and the lawmaker did not reply to a text seeking comment.

Coleman has been embroiled in controversy since he ran for the House in 2020, when he acknowledged past abuses against girls and young women. A legislative committee reprimanded Coleman in writing in February 2020 over those abuses. After his two arrests within a month, six female Democrats in the House filed a complaint against him with the House designed to lead to his ouster.

The Kansas Highway Patrol initially said he had been arrested in Douglas County on suspicion of DUI, but a decision on charges waited on the report to the district attorney's office from the patrol on the substances in Coleman's body at the time of the stop. Coleman has said he wasn't under the influence.

Jill Jess, a spokesperson for the Douglas County district attorney's office, said the charges were “based on evidence presented,” without elaborating. The Associated Press has requested a copy of the patrol's report.

“Mr. Coleman faces no further charges in Douglas County at this time,” she wrote.

Coleman is free on bond in both criminal cases. At the Statehouse, he's been pursuing a liberal agenda and earlier this month introduced a bill to reduce criminal penalties for possessing or distributing psychedelic mushrooms. But Democratic leaders have refused to give him any committee assignments.

The complaint filed against him by six fellow Democrats revived the committee of three Republicans and three Democrats that admonished him in writing last year. But its chairman has said it doesn't plan to meet again until Coleman's criminal cases are resolved.

In the Johnson County case, Coleman was ordered to undergo a mental health exam. Court documents said Coleman, who is Jewish, had a fight with his younger brother over the brother's plans for a Christian baptism.

A police sergeant wrote in an affidavit that Coleman was uncooperative and “extremely erratic,” and that he reported not sleeping for three days. Coleman tweeted Nov. 25 — two days before his arrest in Douglas County — that he's suffered from chronic insomnia “my whole adult life.”

Kansas lawmaker charged with traffic violations but not DUI

A Kansas felon who asked to make a report to Salina police, then fled from officers at a high rate of speed, later called to report that he had crashed his vehicle.

Just after 9p.m. Thursday, officers at the Salina Police Department were asked to assist a citizen identified as Montreal Williams, 44, of Wichita, next door in the parking lot of the Salina Senior Center, 245 N. Ninth Street, according to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester. 

Williams was sitting in the front seat of a 2013 Mazda 2. He told the officers that he wanted to make a report and that he wanted the patrol supervisor.

Williams handed an officer a citation from Wichita that was for driving on a suspended driver’s license, Forrester reported. The officers asked Williams for his driver’s license and he refused. The patrol supervisor arrived and also asked Williams for his license. At that point, Williams put his vehicle in drive and allegedly exited the parking lot at a high rate of speed, traveling eastbound on W. Elm Street.

Forrester reported that officers initially pursued Williams, but terminated the pursuit after only a few blocks. Williams was seen turning southbound on N. Ohio Street. Another officer, who was on S. Ohio Street, observed Williams’ vehicle allegedly traveling at approximately 95 mph on S. Ohio Street and running the stoplight at the E. Crawford Street/S. Ohio Street intersection.

Approximately 30 minutes later, Williams called and reported that he had crashed his vehicle at W. Magnolia Road and the Interstate 135 on-ramp. The right front tire of the Mazda had been shredded by an unknown object.

Police arrested Williams was arrested on requested charges of Felony flee and elude, Driving while suspended, Numerous traffic violations and Interference with law enforcement. He previous convictions for theft, burglary and aggravated battery, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.

Kansas felon jailed after he fled police, crashed his car

SHAWNEE COUNTY – Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay, Shawnee County Sheriff Brian Hill and Topeka Police Chief Bryan Wheeles announce the execution of multiple search warrants at local massage and spa businesses within Shawnee County, according to a media release.

On Wednesday, several multi-agency criminal investigations, one that began over a year ago, resulted in the execution of search warrants at six separate locations within Shawnee County. 

During the execution of these search warrants, several suspects were taken into custody and numerous victims were identified including 43-year-old&nbsp; Xue Bai and 44-year-old Hong Gao who are being held on requested charges of Promoting Prostitution; Maintaining House Prostition, according to online jail records. 

Chengzhu Lu, 44, is being held on a requested charge of Promoting Prostitution; Soliciting A Patron For Prostitution, according to online jail records. Authorities are working to confirm the identity of all three suspects.

Members of the Kaw Valley Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force (KVHTTF) executed search warrants at the following businesses in the Topeka area:

 Healing Massage - 4209 SW 21st Street

RILEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a&nbsp; burglary and have a suspect in custody.

Just before 11:30a.m. Wednesday, officers filed a report for burglary; possession of opiate, opium, narcotic or certain stimulant; possession of stolen property; and criminal damage to property in the 19,400 block of Peach Grove Road north of Randolph, according to the Riley County Police department activity report.

Officers responded to the scene after a report of a burglary in progress and located and arrested Brock Odell, 31, of Clay Center.

Odell who was also in possession of a stolen GMC Acadia out of Clay Center and drugs. 

A 58-year-old woman, a 50-year-old man and 60-year-old man are the victims, according to the RCPD.&nbsp; They were not on scene when the burglary occurred.&nbsp;

Odell is being held without bond on requested charges of&nbsp;Burglary; Non-dwelling to commit felony, theft or sexually motivated crime(2x) and  Possession of opiate, opium, narcotic or certain stimulant.

RCPD: Suspect in stolen SUV captured during rural burglary

KANSAS CITY (AP) — A white Kansas City police detective who was convicted in the shooting death of a Black man is no longer with the police department, a spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Eric DeValkenaere's last day with the department was Monday, police Capt. Leslie Foreman said. She said state law prevents her from saying whether DeValkenaere was fired, resigned or retired, The Kansas City Star&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/crime/article257741098.html">reported</a>.

He had been suspended without pay after he was&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/crime-police-shootings-race-and-ethnicity-kansas-city-933d3aba9b37c83145fba5818d557c02">convicted in November</a>&nbsp;of second-degree involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action in the Dec. 3, 2019, shooting of 26-year-old Cameron Lamb.

DeValkenaere has been free on a $30,000 bond since he was charged, throughout his trial and post-conviction.

During a video court hearing on Wednesday, DeValkenaere's defense attorney, Molly Hastings, asked Jackson County Circuit Court Presiding Judge Dale Youngs to consider allowing him to remain free on bond while his conviction is appealed, citing concern for his safety in jail because he was a police detective.

Youngs, who convicted DeValkenaere after a bench trial, said granting such a request would be unprecedented in his 13 years on the bench, KSHB-TV&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kshb.com/news/crime/eric-devalkenaeres-attorneys-float-idea-of-bond-during-appeal-of-double-felony-conviction">reported</a>.

“Other than Mr. DeValkenaere’s status as a police officer, I’m not exactly sure what other unique circumstances would compel me to treat him differently than I might treat somebody else in his situation given the charges,” Youngs said.

DeValkenaere is scheduled to be sentenced March 4. He faces up to four years on the manslaughter conviction and at least three years for the armed criminal action charge.

DeValkenaere testified during his trial that he fired after Lamb pointed a gun at another detective, Troy Schwalm.

Youngs found that the officers had no probable cause to believe that any crime had been committed, had no warrant for Lamb’s arrest and had no search warrant or consent to be on the property.

Kansas City detective convicted in killing leaves department

SUMNER COUNTY— A Kansas couple accused in the&nbsp;August shooting death of a 12-year-old girl at a Kansas home are scheduled for a virtual court appearance Thursday, according to the Sumner County District Court.

On Jan. 6, police arrested 42-year-old Jarod Bruey and 41- year-old&nbsp; Sarah Bruey on requested charges of aggravated endangerment of a child and first-degree murder in commission of a felony, according to online Sumner County jail records.&nbsp;

On August 6, 2021 Sumner County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to report a shooting the 1500 Block of South Blackstone Road in Caldwell, according to&nbsp;Undersheriff Mike Westmoreland.

Deputies were told a 12-year-old girl accidentally shot her 12-year-old sister in the face. 

After administering life saving measures for over forty minutes she was declared deceased, according to&nbsp;Westmoreland.&nbsp;&nbsp;

COWLEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating two Kansas men for alleged counterfeiting.

On January 18, the Arkansas City Police Department began investigating numerous cases involving counterfeit U.S. currency, along with false identifications that were being used throughout the city to secure transactions and the passing of a fake check, according to Arkansas City Police.

On January 22, police were dispatched to Super 8 by Wyndham, 3228 N. Summit Street in north Arkansas City, for a report of a man suspect who had rented a room using a paper identification that was later determined to be fake.

When they arrived, officers located and later arrested 30-year-old Matthew Duane Albrecht and 38-year-old Aaron Scott Gramke.

Albrecht is being held on requested charges of identity fraud and making false information, as well as one misdemeanor count of theft of property or services.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Gramke is being held requested charges of counterfeiting, identity theft and making false information, as well as one misdemeanor count of theft of property totaling less than $1,500 in value. 

They were transported to and booked into the county jail where they remain in custody, according to police.

Anyone with information about counterfeiting is encouraged to call the Arkansas City Police Department. Specifically, anyone who recently has received a check from a “Jared Brown” should call Detective Lt. Jason Legleiter at (620) 441-4435.

Two Kan. men accused of counterfeiting, passing fake checks

TOPEKA&nbsp; – The Kansas attorney general’s office has resolved a lawsuit filed under the state’s mistaken-conviction statute, according to Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt.

The attorney general reached an agreed resolution of a lawsuit filed by 52-year-old Merardo J. Garza, Jr. On January 10, 2008, Garza was convicted of alternative counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and rape in Sedgwick County District Court. He was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum sentence of 25 years. His conviction was vacated on November 6, 2020, in Sedgwick County District Court. The agreed resolution was approved January 20, 2022, by Sedgwick County District Judge Seth Rundle.

In the agreed order, the court determined that Garza did not commit the crime for which he was convicted, nor was he an accessory or accomplice to that crime, nor did he suborn perjury, fabricate evidence or cause or bring about his conviction through his own conduct. Garza served 13 years, five months and 27 days in prison or jail.

Accordingly, the court ordered the following relief for Garza, as provided by the mistaken-conviction statute:

By statute, payment is subject to review by the State Finance Council.&nbsp;Copies of the orders in the case of&nbsp;Garza v State of Kansas&nbsp;can be found at&nbsp;<a href="https://bit.ly/3qZdu2W">https://bit.ly/3qZdu2W</a>.&nbsp;The case is awaiting review by the State Finance Council.

In the second case, Shawnee County District Court Judge Teresa Watson issued a ruling earlier last week in a lawsuit brought by Francis R. Everett, 64, who was convicted in Smith County on charges of manufacturing methamphetamines in November 2007. Everett was released when his conviction was reversed on appeal because the trial court erred in admitting evidence of a prior conviction, not because of actual innocence, Watson wrote. Everett was not retried on the charges, but is currently in prison on other charges.

Following a one-day trial on January 6 to hear Everett’s claim, Watson ruled that Everett failed to satisfy all of the requirements established in K.S.A. 60-5004 that the claimant shall prove, among other criteria, that he did not commit the crimes and was not an accessory to the acts that were the basis for the original conviction. Everett appeared at the trial by videoconference.

A witness at both Everett’s hearing and his 2007 trial testified that she was present with Everett in the making of methamphetamines and subsequent use during a three-month period from March to May 2006. The witness gave a detailed account of how she and Everett drove across state lines to acquire the necessary components to make the illegal drugs and subsequently use them in a secluded area.

Watson said in her ruling that Everett severely undercut his credibility as a witness in his claim against the state, admitting under oath that he “probably did” use methamphetamines during the time in question, despite earlier testimony to the contrary. From December 2018 through the present, 14 individuals have filed lawsuits against the State of Kansas under authority of K.S.A. 60-5004, the mistaken-conviction statute. In a seventh case, the district court ruled against the claimant, and the Kansas Supreme Court affirmed that no payment was owed. The eighth case (Everett) was rejected at the district court level. Five other cases remain in litigation in district courts. The Garza case is awaiting review by the State Finance Council.

Kan. man convicted of sex crimes against minor was innocent

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal September 2020 crash have made an arrest.

On Tuesday, members of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office extradition unit arrested&nbsp; 26-year-old Gabriel Ortiz at the San Diego, CA County Jail and transported him to the Sedgwick County Jail, according to Sheriff's Lt. Benjamin Blick.

Ortiz <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20074214">was booked for a </a>warrant issued in the 18th&nbsp;Judicial District for murder in the second degree, involuntary manslaughter (alternative) and three counts of aggravated battery.&nbsp; The charges stem from the collision. He is expected to make a first court appearance Wednesday, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

On September 5, 2020, an Infinity Q50 SUV crossed the centerline of the roadway at 5600 W MacArthur and struck a Toyota Sienna van head-on.&nbsp; 

The passenger of the Sienna, 55-year-old Sonia Lopez of Wichita, died from injuries sustained during the collision.&nbsp; Two passengers in the Infinity and the driver of the Sienna sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Man extradited from California after arrest for deadly Kan. crash

SALINE COUNTY —Police arrested a wanted Kansas Tuesday after an incident at a business in Salina.

Just after 2p.m. police were sent to the 24/7 Travel Store, 2239 N. Ninth Street in Salina for the report of a customer throwing credit cards, according to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester.

 When officers arrived, they found the man, identified as Maurio Williams, 38, of Salina, on the east side of the business.

Williams had active warrants for failure to appear from Saline County District Court and Salina Municipal Court.

When the officers attempted to take Williams into custody, he allegedly shoved one of the officers in the chest and a physical altercation ensued. Williams and the officers ended up on the ground, according to Forrester.

Williams was placed into a bodyguard restraint system for transport. While the restraint was being secured, Williams allegedly spit in the face of one of the officers. 

Williams is jailed on requested charges that include battery of a law enforcement officer and Interference with law enforcement, according to Forrester.

The shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday in the northeastern section of the city, police said in a news release. Officers called to the scene found the woman unresponsive on a sidewalk with a gunshot wound. Paramedics declared her dead at the scene.

Her name was not immediately released. Police have not announced any arrests or suspects in the case.

Detectives were canvassing the area for witnesses, and and crime scene officials were processing the scene for evidence.

RENO COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new charges after a Monday arrest.

On Monday evening, police stopped a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Derek Jaquez in the 500 Block of East 6th Street in Hutchinson, according to a media release. Police called in a K-9 unit to check for drugs.&nbsp;A search of the vehicle turned up ten pounds of marijuana in the back seat of the vehicle.

Officers took Jaquez into custody on requested charges of of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while suspended.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jaquez has previous convictions for burglary and aggravated battery, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Police arrest Kansas felon after K9 finds 10 pounds of marijuana

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect in connection with an officer involved shooting in Wichita.

Just before 1:30a.m. Monday, a Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputy observed the driver of a red Lexus later identified as 26-year-old Kory Anziana of Wichita  commit a traffic violation near the intersection of Pawnee and Meridian in Wichita, according to Sheriff's Lt. Benjamin Blick.

 The deputy attempted to stop the Lexus and Anziana fled in the vehicle. The pursuit lasted approximately six minutes with the top speeds reported near 70 MPH. The pursuit ended when the Lexus became high-centered in the parking lot of the Regency Inn at 6125 W Kellogg Drive in Wichita.

Anziana shot at the pursuing deputy and two deputies returned fire. No one was struck by any of the gunfire. He then fled into an occupied room at the Regency Inn. One of the occupants of the room was able to communicate with motel staff and eventually law enforcement through a messenger app. Eventually, the occupants of the room walked out on their own. At approximately 8:25a.m. the deputies arrested Anziana.

He is being held on requested charges of Aggravated Assault, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Flee and Elude, Drug charges and three outstanding arrest warrants, according to Lt. Blick.&nbsp;Anziana has previous conviction that include theft and for drugs, according to the Kansas Dept. of Corrections.

Sheriff: Kan. felon identified as suspect in deputy shooting, standoff

A Texas man wanted in connection to the August 2020 shooting death of a Salina man is in custody, according to police.

Authorities in Texas arrested Jacob Martin Leos, 22, of Justin, on Jan. 11, according to Saline Police Captain Paul Forrester.&nbsp; He is one of four suspects being held in connection to the shooting death of Camilo Renaldo Ramirez on August. 23, near the intersection of Front Street and E. Iron Avenue in Salina.

Just after 4a.m. that morning, police, were dispatched to a report of gunshots and found Ramirez in the street. His dog was also found dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot, according to police.

Ramirez died in a Wichita hospital on Aug. 24. Later that week, police reported that three people had been arrested in connection to the case including Kiera Stewart, 22, of Salina, on requested charges of felony murder and attempted aggravated robbery.

Police arrested Jaime Leos, Jr., 24, of Salina, on requested charges of attempted first degree murder (later upgraded to first degree murder), felony animal cruelty, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and other narcotics related charges.

They also arrested Juan Doroteo Morales, 34, of Salina, on attempted first degree murder (later upgraded to first degree murder), felony animal cruelty, and felon in possession of a firearm.

Leos is being held in the Saline County Jail&nbsp; on requested charges of First degree murder, Aggravated assault with deadly weapon, Aggravated robbery, Animal cruelty, Criminal discharge of a firearm, Felony damage to property. The Kansas Attorney General's Office will be prosecuting the case.

4th suspect in killing of Kansas man, dog arrested in Texas

Just before 1:30a.m. Monday, a Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputy observed the driver of a red Lexus commit a traffic violation near the intersection of Pawnee and Meridian in Wichita, according to Sheriff's Lt. Benjamin Blick.

 The deputy attempted to stop the Lexus and the driver fled in the vehicle. The pursuit lasted approximately six minutes with the top speeds reported near 70 MPH. The pursuit ended when the Lexus became high-centered in the parking lot of the Regency Inn at 6125 W Kellogg Drive in Wichita.

The 26-year-old male driver shot at the pursuing deputy and two deputies returned fire. No one was struck by any of the gunfire. The suspect then fled into an occupied room at the Regency Inn. One of the occupants of the room was able to communicate with motel staff and eventually law enforcement through a messenger app. Eventually, the occupants of the room walked out on their own. At approximately 8:25a.m. the suspect was arrested.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division is currently interviewing witnesses and processing evidence. Authorities have not released the suspect's name or potential charges.

Man jailed after Kan. deputy-involved shooting, standoff at motel

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Police in Kansas City, Kansas, are investigating the late-night shooting death of a man near the Missouri border.

The shooting happened after 11 p.m. Sunday near State Line Road, when emergency dispatchers received calls about a person having been shot inside a vehicle, police said. Arriving officers discovered a man who had already died from gunshot wounds.

Police find man shot to death inside vehicle in Kansas City

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A former assistant boys high school basketball coach in Topeka has admitted to posing as a teenage girl on social media to get explicit photos from other teens. 

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that 41-year-old Jeffrey Pierce pleaded guilty Friday to one count of producing child pornography in exchange for the dismissal of 11 other federal charges he faced. 

Pierce taught ninth-grade social studies and was an assistant basketball coach at Seaman. He was fired after he was arrested in September 2020. 

He admitted through his plea that he asked nine 14-to 16-year-old boys for sexually explicit photos and videos of themselves while pretending to be a teenage girl on Snapchat, Instagram and other social media platforms.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the 2017 killing of an 18-year-old Topeka woman. 

Twenty-year-old Javon Amond Smith was sentenced Thursday for second-degree murder and other crimes linked to the death of Kianna Cherise Hodges.

Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay said Topeka police were called on March 4, 2017, after a man on foot shot into two separate vehicles, killing Hodges and wounding four other people. New information emerged during a cold case review in 2020, leading to Smith's arrest. Smith pleaded guilty in October to second-degree murder and criminal discharge of a weapon into an occupied vehicle.

&nbsp;NEMAHA COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a home-invasion robbery have made an arrest.

On Jan. 18, police arreste 50-year-old Ginger Bass, 50, Seneca on a Nemaha County Warrant for Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Burglary, and Battery, according to a social media report from the Nemaha County Sheriff.

According to the Nemaha County Attorney's office,&nbsp; on Jan. 5, Bass allegedly entered a home in Seneca without authority and while in the residence, injured a woman who lives there. She also took the victim's purse.&nbsp; Bass it no longer in custody. She is due in court for the case on February 15, according to the sheriff's department.

Kansas woman accused of home-invasion robbery

JACKSON COUNTY —A Kansas City-area man has been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing on Jan. 19, of his roommate identified as Zackiery Lister according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

Frelix C.O. Beighley-Beck, 22, Raytown, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.

According to court records, police were dispatched on an emergency call to the 9200 block of E. 54th Terrace in Raytown. A caller to dispatch stated he had just committed a murder. &nbsp;He told dispatcher "I pushed him and then I shot him and then stabbed him afterwards."

 Police, on the scene, observed the defendant exit the residence. "I don't know what happened," he told an officer. Police detained him after an officer observed blood on the defendant's hands. Police found a knife on the defendant as he was being arrested.&nbsp;

Lister and Beighley-Beck were roommates. The victim was found in a bedroom. Prosecutors requested a $300,000 bond.

KC-area man charged with murder of his roommate

SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a burglary and have made an arrest.

Just after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, officers were dispatched to the parking lot of Home Depot at 5900 SW Huntoon in Topeka on a report of a vehicle burglary in progress, according to Lt. Manuel Munoz.

While officers were in route, the caller, who was watching them from the lot stayed on the phone with dispatch and continued to update them as the two suspects got in a vehicle and left the lot. 

The caller provided a great description of the vehicle who was observed by officers coming into the area. The vehicle was stopped at a nearby hotel entrance and two individuals were taken into custody.

As a result of the investigation, Jordan Shumway, 28 and Earl Kuhn, 59, both of Topeka were booked into Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Burglary to a Vehicle, Theft, Possession of Meth w/Intent to Dist. Possession of Drug Para.

The Topeka Police Department thanked the citizen who called in to dispatch to report the illegal activity. Because of their call, two suspects were taken into custody and the property was returned to the owner.&nbsp;

Just after 7:00p.m. Thursday evening a domestic disturbance occurred at a residence in the 500 block Mound Street in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

 During the disturbance a 36-year-old man was stabbed with a knife causing a non-life threatening injury. The victim left the residence and went to Police Headquarters. He was examined by EMS and subsequently drove himself to the hospital where he was treated and released. 

Officers located and arrested 35-year-old Shandalyn Foster at the home. She is being held on requested charges of&nbsp;aggravated battery.

Woman jailed for alleged stabbing at Kansas home

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal 2019 motorcycle accident have made an arrest.

On Wednesday, police booked 31-year-old Travis Bryson on requested charges of that include involuntary manslaughter while under the influence and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, according to the Sedgwick County booking report.

In July of 2019 the Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle driven by Bryson of Wichita was southbound on Interstate 135 near Kansas 15. The driver lost control of the motorcycle,&nbsp; hit the barrier wall and a passenger identified as Christopher Monk, 45, Wichita, was ejected.

Monk was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the KHP. EMS transported Bryson to an area hospital for treatment.&nbsp; Bryson was no longer in custody Thursday afternoon, according to online jail records.
