WICHITA, KAN. (AP) — A Kansas man has been charged with fatally stabbing his sister's ex-boyfriend during a Wichita fight.

Morgan Prager, 24, Pittsburg, Kansas, made his first appearance Wednesday in Sedgwick County District Court on charges of second degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is jailed on $250,000 bond.

Wichita police say officers responded Saturday to an assault call and found 19-year-old Vincent Venturella suffering from a severe neck laceration. Police say the men had fought about Prager's sister. Venturella died Monday night.

Prager was arrested in Pittsburg.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/kansas">Kansas</a>&nbsp;Department of Corrections records show that he had been discharged in December from community corrections after previous convictions for theft and criminal possession of a firearm in Wyandotte County.

SHAWNEE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a stolen car ring and have two of three suspects in custody.

Just after 7a.m. January 9,&nbsp;the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center received a call about a Toyota Tacoma that was stolen in the city of Auburn, according to&nbsp;Deputy Abigail Christian.

Sheriff’s deputies, with assistance from the truck owner, were able to locate the truck in the 600 block of SE Lime Street.&nbsp; A Kia Optima, reported stolen out of Jackson County, was also located at that address.

Deputes arrested Rachael R. Ratzloff, 21, of Topeka, on requested charges that included multiple counts of burglary and theft.

Just after 2:30p.m. January 14, deputies arrested another suspect identified as Cody Brown, 22, Topeka, near SE 5th and Lafayette Street after a short foot pursuit, according to Lt. Todd Stallbaumer. 

Brown tossed a firearm&nbsp; during the chase. Deputies recovered it later. He is being held on requested charges that include burglary of vehicle, felon in possession of a firearm, felony theft and criminal damage to property.

&nbsp;The investigation and video surveillance identified a third suspect identified as&nbsp; Cheyenne N. Thomas, 23, of Topeka.&nbsp;

The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the community’s assistance in locating her.

Kansas deputies search for 3rd suspect in vehicle burglary ring

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities have identified the victim from a child abuse investigation on January 10, as 9-month-old Maela Flores of Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson. She died Wednesday.

Police arrested 25-year-old Brietan Rader of Wichita in connection with the case. He was formally charged Tuesday for child abuse, child endangerment, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, cultivation of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the district attorney's office.&nbsp; Rader is now facing a requested charge of&nbsp; 1st- degree murder.&nbsp;&nbsp;

At approximately 11:20 p.m. January 10, police responded to an assist the fire department call at a home in the 3600 block of West 13th&nbsp;street North in Wichita, regarding a child not breathing, according to Captain Brent Allred.&nbsp; Upon arrival, officers located Flores with critical injuries.&nbsp; She was taken to an area hospital for medical treatment and died Wednesday.

The investigation revealed Flores received the critical injures while in the care of Rader, which led to his arrest.&nbsp; An additional 6-year-old boy and a 2-year-old boy were also at the home, were uninjured, and taken into police protective custody.

Additionally, during the investigation, officers discovered a marijuana grow operation inside the apartment.

He is currently jailed on a $250,000 bond.

Kansas man now accused in death of girlfriend's baby

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a case of alleged child abuse that sent two children to a hospital. Their father, 22-year-old Marlin D. Williams, Jr.,&nbsp; accused of abuse made his first court appearance on Tuesday, according to the Sedgwick County Attorney's office.

On December 10, police responded to an assist EMS call regarding a child not breathing at a home in the 2800 Block of South Emporia in Wichita, according to Captain Brent Allred.

Upon arrival offices located a 2-month-old boy unresponsive. EMS transported the child to a local hospital where it was discovered he had serious internal injuries, according to Allred.&nbsp;

Investigators learned the boy had a broken clavicle that was healing in addition to the injuries discovered during the EMS call. His 2-month-old twin sister had a healing broken femur, according to Allred.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested Williams.&nbsp; He was charged Tuesday with on three counts o<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20064881">f aggravated battery</a>&nbsp;and is being held on a $250,000 bond.

The boy and his sister remain hospitalized.&nbsp; A 1-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl at William home were not injured and placed into police protective custody.&nbsp;

The mother of the children was not at home at the time of the arrest.&nbsp;

Father of Kan. twins found with serious injuries makes court appearance

ELLIS COUNTY —A man with a lengthy criminal history was arrested in Hays after a misplaced backpack led Hays Police to the suspect.

Michael Earl Emerick, 23, Plainville, is a suspect in at least two instances of using a stolen financial card and was arrested at 3:29 p.m. Dec. 27.

On Dec. 23,&nbsp; financial cards were reported stolen from a vehicle at a local store. Other cards were reported stolen after a vehicle was entered overnight on Dec. 24 from the 100 block of West Fourth, according to&nbsp;Hays Deputy Chief of Police Brian Dawson.

Cards from both victims were found on Emerick at the time of his arrest, he said.

Emerick was located after he was given a ride from Plainville by an unnamed individual.

Unbeknownst to the driver, Emerick allegedly paid for gas with one of the stolen cards and later left his backpack at the driver's house, which led to the HPD to search for Emerick, according to Dawson.

He was spotted on the 400 block East Eighth but left the area as police were searching for him.

He was later located in the 200 block of East 21st.

He was arrested on suspicion of drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, burglary and theft.

Emerick has previous convictions in Saline County for drug possession, theft, criminal use of a financial card, obstruction of a legal process and aggravated failure to appear, according to Community Corrections records.

Emerick is currently in custody in the Ellis County jail.

The protected party is a resident in that area. The truck quickly left and due to heavy fog, the deputy was unable to pursue the vehicle.

Another deputy located the vehicle a short time later as it entered Interstate 70 from SW Wanamaker Road. The deputy conducted a traffic stop near SW 6th and Rock Garden Drive.

The deputy made an arrest and booked the driver identified as Charles F. Adkins, 50, Topeka, on a requested charge of felony violation of a stalking order, a felony probation violation and traffic violations, according to Anderson.

Officers seized methamphetamine, marijuana and firearms from the residence. They also&nbsp; Alex Hidalgo,32, of Topeka on requested charges of narcotic distribution.

Three juveniles, including a seven month old and 2 four-year olds, were placed into police protective custody pending a hearing due to being in the environment where narcotics were located and used.&nbsp;&nbsp;

SWAT team helps DEA arrest wanted Kan. felon for alleged drug distribution

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a murder, have made an arrest and continue the search for the victim's body. 

Just after noon on December 29, a 58-year-old man reported to police that 53-year-old Jeffrey Hill had been involved a criminal homicide in the 2100 Block of South Water in Wichita, according to police captain Brent Allred.

The victim had been taken to an unknown location outside of Wichita and buried.

Police later learned the victim was 50-year-old Jeffry Jones of Hutchison. The examination of evidence and witness interviews led police to arrest Hill after a traffic stop in Wichita on Monday, according to Allred.

When officers stopped the 1999 Chevy Suburban, Hill fled on foot. Officers quickly chased him down. Police also located meth, marijuana and narcotic pills in the SUV.&nbsp; 

Hill is being held on without <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=52197">bond&nbsp; for second-degree murder,</a> possession of meth with intent to sell, possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana and resisting arrest.

Police have not located the victim's body, according to Allred.&nbsp; &nbsp;They are also working to determine a motive for the crime.

Hill has previous convictions for aggravated robbery, burglary, theft, forgery, identity theft, drugs and for trafficking in contraband in a penal institution, according to Allred.

The Latest: Kansas man injured in knife attack has died

At approximately 8 p.m. on Thursday, the WPD animal services section received a phone call from the Wichita Animal Action League regarding information they had received about a living brown Pitbull and Boxer mix inside of a cage and discarded in a trash dumpster in the 2200 block of South Oliver in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson.

The WPD animal services section and WPD animal cruelty investigator went to work on the case.&nbsp; The investigation, tips provided to Crime Stoppers, and witness interviews led to the arrest of 26-year-old Raykesha Hardyway of Wichita on requested charges animal cruelty, abandonment - failure to provide adequate provisions and an outstanding warrant.

The Animal Action League described the dog as “very sweet and loving." The group is asking for donations for his medical care. The  dog was dehydrated and will need slow, small meals over a long period of time because feeding him too quickly could be dangerous. It will likely be months before he is eligible for adoption.

The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

 </figure>At approximately 8 p.m. on Thursday, the WPD animal services section received a phone call from the Wichita Animal Action League regarding information they had received about a living brown Pitbull and Boxer mix inside of a cage and discarded in a trash dumpster in the 2200 block of South Oliver in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson.<figure>

Kansas woman arrested after dog found in cage in dumpster 

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man for alleged child abuse.

Just before 11:30 p.m. 10, police and EMS were dispatched to the 3600 block of West 13th street North in Wichita for a child not breathing, according to Captain Brent Allred. At the scene, they discovered a 9-month-old girl with critical injuries.&nbsp; EMS transported her to a local hospital where she remains hospitalized in very critical condition, according to Allred.

Investigators learned&nbsp; the child received injuries while in the care of 25-year-old Breitan Radar at the home. That led to his arrest on requested charges of child abuse, child endangerment, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, cultivation of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=398601">held on a $250,000 bond, </a>according to online jail records.

A 6-year-old boy and a 2-year-old boy found at the home were placed in police protective custody.&nbsp; Radar is the father of 6-year-old and not the father of the victim.

During the investigation officers discovered a marijuana grow operation inside the apartment.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Radar had called the mother to tell her the baby was not breathing. The mother saw a Sedgwick County Sheriff's Deputy's vehicle, contacted the deputy who followed her to the home.

The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office

SALINE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating two suspects on drug charges after a Sunday traffic stop in Saline County.

Sophia Lamas&nbsp;-Saline County Sheriff

Just after 1:30 a.m., a Saline County deputy noticed a 2007 Chevy Cavalier commit a traffic violation in the 200 block of East Elm Street in Salina, according to Undersheriff Brent Melander.

The deputy stopped the car, which was driven by Sophia Lamas, 34, of Salina.

During the course of the investigation, it was found that Lamas was driving on a suspended license and that a purse in the car held 1.25 pounds of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a handgun, Melander said.

A woman in the front passenger seat was arrested when the name she gave the deputy turned up with outstanding warrants, however it turned out that the woman had given the deputy the name of someone else who happened to have outstanding warrants, according to Melander. Turns out the passenger really was Joanna Deniston, 29, of Salina.

A second gun allegedly associated with Deniston also was located in the car.

Lamas was arrested on requested charges that include drug and traffic violations along with an outstanding warrant.

Deniston was arrested on similar drug charges and two outstanding warrants.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested 22-year-old Marlin D. Williams, Jr.,&nbsp; on <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20064881">requested charges of aggravated battery,</a> according to Allred.&nbsp; The boy and his sister remain hospitalized.&nbsp;

RILEY COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a report of&nbsp; embezzlement in Manhattan.

Just after noon Friday, police reported the alleged crime in the 1200 Block of Hylton Heights Road in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department Activity Report.

Officers listed Hearing Doctors as the victim when it was reported a known 38-year-old woman took money from the business. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $19,447.00.

Police reported no additional details and have not reported an arrest.

RCPD investigates $19,000 embezzlement from Manhattan business

COWLEY COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating two suspects on drug charges after a traffic stop.

On December 7, a police officer conducted a traffic stop on vehicle in the 500 block of North Sixth Street in Arkansas City for driving on the wrong side of the roadway, according to a media release.

During the traffic stop, the officer determined that the tag on the vehicle had expired and the vehicle had an open title that did not show proper ownership or proof of insurance.

Because the vehicle could not be operated legally on a city street, officers conducted an inventory of the vehicle prior to its being towed from the scene. During this search, they discovered items of drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine. 

Further investigation led to the arrest of two of the passengers. Larry Charles Armstrong Jr., 37, Ponca City, Oklahoma, was arrested on requested charges of one felony count each of no drug tax stamp and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, as well as one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

They also arrested Jamie Hugo Gutierrez, 26, Ponca City, Oklahoma, on requested charges of felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.&nbsp;

Both Armstrong and Gutierrez remained in custody.

Police catch 2 drug suspects driving on the wrong side of Kan. road

SHAWNEE COUNTY— Law enforcement authorities are investigating an armed robbery and have two suspects in custody.

Just before 1:30p.m. Thursday, police responded to the 3700 block of SW Park South Court in Topeka regarding an aggravated robbery to an individual, according to Lt. Manuel Munoz. The victim stated that two black males robbed him at gunpoint and fled in a white Ford SUV. 

Nearby officers spotted a vehicle matching the given description near 37th and Kirklawn. 

The driver of the SUV later identified as&nbsp;Alonzo Jerome Boyd Jr, 18, Topeka, initiated a vehicle pursuit that lasted approximately five minutes, traveling through southeast Topeka. 

Boyd disabled the vehicle at 15th and Adams by striking a curb. Both occupants fled on foot but were quickly apprehended. A Police K9 caught Boyd. They were not injured.&nbsp;

As a result of the investigation, officers arrested Boyd and booked him into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Aggravated Robbery, Theft by Threat, Reckless Driving and other traffic related charges, according to Munoz.

A 17 year-old boy&nbsp; was also taken into custody and booked into Juvenile Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Felony Interference with a Law Enforcement Officer.

&nbsp; Upon arrival, fire crews reported heavy smoke and flames from a one story residential structure.&nbsp; Fire suppression crews quickly extinguished the fire keeping it contained to the structure of fire origin.&nbsp; A search of the structure confirmed that the house was vacant.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A preliminary investigation indicated the cause of the fire as intentionally set, according to Bottendorf. The estimated structural dollar loss was $20,000. No smoke alarms were sounding within home.

Fire crews responded to another fire at this home just after 3a.m. December 29. That fire caused an estimated structural dollar loss of $20,000 and a content loss of $1,000.&nbsp; Police have not reported an arrest.

Second intentionally set fire at Kansas home in two weeks

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a robbery and have made an arrest.

Just after 1:15 a.m. December. 30, police responded to an armed robbery call at the Quik Trip, 1010 East Douglas in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson.&nbsp; Upon arrival, officers contacted a 23-year-old male employee who reported a suspect later identified as 28-year-0ld&nbsp; Donald Lybarger entered the store and handed him a threatening note that demanded cash from the register.&nbsp; Cash was given to Lybarger who then fled the store on foot. No one was injured during the incident.

Through the investigation, investigators were able to learn of Lybarger’s involvement. On Wednesday, police located him in the 3600 Block of East Harry in Wichita. He is being held on&nbsp;one count of aggravated robbery and a Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) warrant, according to Davidson.

Lybarger has previously been arrested and convicted on a charge of a violation of the Kansas Offender Registration Act and is currently on parolee with the Kansas Department of Corrections. He was convicted of "sexual contact no consent in Colorado in 2012, according to the KBI offender registry.

Police: Registered sex offender arrested for Kansas robbery

SHAWNEE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a stolen car ring, have one suspect in custody and continue to search for two others.

Just after 7a.m. Thursday,&nbsp;the Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center received a call about a Toyota Tacoma that was stolen in the city of Auburn, according to&nbsp;Deputy Abigail Christian.

The investigation and video surveillance identified two outstanding suspects as Cody J. Brown, 22, and Cheyenne N. Thomas, 23, both of Topeka. A firearm was stolen during one of the vehicle burglaries. 

The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the community’s assistance in locating these two individuals.

Kansas deputies look for 2 suspects in vehicle burglary ring

SEDGWICK COUNTY — The suspect in a fatal December shooting at a night club in Wichita made his first court appearance Wednesday.

Police arrested 25-year-old Terrance Johnson in a suburb of Oklahoma City on January 2, according to officer Charley Davidson. Authorities extradited him back to Kansas Tuesday.&nbsp; He made his first court appearance Wednesday, according to the Sedgwick County Attorney's office.

Just before before 3 a.m. on Sunday Dec. 2, police responded to a shooting call at the 511 club, 511 North West Street in Wichita, according to Captain Brent Allred.&nbsp; Upon arrival, officers located 19-year-old Sonya Brown with a gunshot wound.&nbsp; She was transported to an area hospital where she died.

The investigation revealed a disturbance occurred between the shooting suspect 25-year-old Terranace Johnson and a male patron inside the business when Johnson fired multiple shots, which struck Brown police believe was an unintended and uninvolved victim.&nbsp;

Johnson remains<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=142908"> jailed on $500,000 </a>bond on suspicion of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, possession of marijuana and several traffic infractions, according to online jail records.

Suspect in fatal after-hours Kan. club shooting appears in court

Olathe, Kan. (AP) —A former Kansas sheriff’s deputy who admitted beating his wife has pleaded guilty to aggravated battery.

As part of his plea deal Wednesday, two charges were dropped and prosecutors will recommend that Eric Leon Walker, 38, be sentenced to probation.

Walker was placed on leave after his arrest and has not worked for the Johnson County Sheriff's office since Nov. 22.

Walker was accused in court documents and at a November court hearing of beating his wife and threatening to kill her at their home last May. She testified the couple's son was in the house during part of the altercation.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A Kansas man who was on parole after spending 38 years in prison for murdering two people in a bar robbery, one of whom was an off-duty police officer, pleaded guilty to drug trafficking in federal court Wednesday, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

Robert Lucious Toney, 67, pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Willie J. Epps, Jr. to one count of distributing methamphetamine, one count of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, and one count of crossing state lines in aid of a racketeering enterprise (the unlawful business of distributing illegal drugs).

On Dec. 14, 2018, Toney met an undercover law enforcement officer at a restaurant in Columbia, Missouri. Toney sold the undercover officer two ounces of methamphetamine for $1,400.

Toney met the undercover officer again on Jan. 18, 2019, at a restaurant in Kingdom City, Missouri. Toney was arrested in the parking lot when he got out of his car. Officers searched the car, and under the gas tank lid found four plastic bags that contained methamphetamine and a bag that contained two grams of heroin and one gram of cocaine, which Toney was planning to sell to the undercover officer for $3,200.&nbsp;

At the time of these offenses, Toney was on state parole after being sentenced to two consecutive life terms plus 20 years in prison for the 1973 conviction of murdering an off-duty police officer and another customer during a bar robbery and assaulting two more customers. After 38 years of incarceration, Toney was released on parole in 2010.

Under federal statutes, Toney is subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison without parole, up to a sentence of life in federal prison without parole. The maximum statutory sentence is prescribed by Congress and is provided here for informational purposes, as the sentencing of the defendant will be determined by the court based on the advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.

Kansas cop killer on parole busted in meth sting

Just before 1:30 a.m. Dec. 22, police responded to a shooting call in the 2000 block of North Pine Grove, according to officer Charley Davidson.&nbsp; Upon arrival, officers located a 21-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg.&nbsp; He was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment of a non-life-threating injury and later released.

They arrested him without incident.&nbsp; Officers also recovered two handguns and ammunition at the home.The Maize Police Department (MPD) has also arrested Johnson on charges of aggravated battery, six counts of aggravated assault, and three counts of criminal damage to property, stemming from a shooting on Sunday, Jan. 5 at a house party in&nbsp; in Maize, Kansas that injured a teenager.Johnson is being held on requested charges of aggravated battery and criminal discharge of a firearm.&nbsp;WPD investigators are working to determine if Johnson was involved in any other related type incidents.
