Martha “Marty” Mae (Rush) Lehmann, 77, of Manhattan, KS, died on August 8, 2022, at Olathe Health Hospice House following the aftermath of a major stroke. Marty, named after her wonderful grandmother, Marta LaSagna, with whom she had a special relationship, was born on December 12, 1944, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Paul and Katherine (LaSagna) Rush. Although Marty had several jobs, from working at Goldblatt’s to Wendy’s, she spent most of her career as a homemaker tending to her sons and all their events throughout the Manhattan area, having fond memories of countless summer baseball games. She earned her Associates Degree in Medical Records and worked many years at Kansas State University’s Lafene Health Center. One of her greatest joys was when she became a grandmother and doting on her grandchildren. She loved taking them to the playground and was very adept at maneuvering the slide with both boys in hand. In her spare time, Marty could be found doing crossword puzzles, watching NCIS and the Game Show Network, and walking her four-legged animal pals, Oscar and Tucker. She loved to laugh, and had great fun watching old movie comedies. Above all, she loved being with her family and friends. Marty was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Lee Rush and Joseph Rush, sisters Joann Rush and Paulette Green, sister-in-law, Patricia Rush, and father to her children, Tom “The Dough Doctor” Lehmann. Allen William Archer, 70, of Manhattan, Kansas, died Friday, August 12, 2022. Al was a Professor Emeritus of Geology at Kansas State University and a long-time resident of Manhattan.

Al was born June 7, 1952, in Harford City, Indiana, the son of Don and Martha (McColly) Archer. He attended college at Indiana University and Oregon State, and Al received a PhD in Geology from Indiana University.

Al was a Professor of Geology at Kansas State for more than three decades, where his expertise was in tidal sediments at river deltas. Al’s research took him to the great rivers of the world, and his particular passion was for the Amazon. Al spent much of his spare time tinkering and playing music. He built musical instruments and made robots. He played the dobro, banjo, and pedal steel guitar, and performed with a local old-time country bluegrass band. Al was married to Lori Zinn for more than 30 years, and later divorced. Lori and Al had two daughters, Hannah and Emily, who grew up in Manhattan. Al has in recent years lived with his partner, Lucy Wanja, in Manhattan. Al is survived by his partner Lucy, his daughters, and his brother, Don Archer of Berkeley, California.

Rodolfo (Rudy) Frank Besa, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully August 12, 2022 at his home, in Manhattan. Rudy was born October 30, 1933 the son of Gregorio and Matilde Besa of Eagle Pass, Texas. Rudy was a baseball player in his younger years. He also helped his parents on their farm. He then joined the military where he met Haiti, during this marriage they had a daughter, Petra (Patty). They were later divorced. During his military career he was stationed at Ft. Riley. After getting out he worked many jobs in Manhattan. from Vikings Gas Station attendant to a machinist at McCall Pattern, where he retired from after 30 years He then met the true love of his life and his soulmate, Carolyn Fortner, where they became one when they joined in marriage, March 26, 1960. Together they celebrated 60 years of marriage. During their lifetime they traveled to may places and hosted many parties. He was proceeded in death by his wife Carolyn, his parents, and infant son, a grandson, his son Juan and many relatives and friends. Rudy is survived by his daughter, Brenda Emory of Manhattan, Greg Besa and companion Jill of Kansas City, KS, Tony Fortner and wife Kathie, Morganville, KS, Patty Harris and husband Mark of Cuba, MO. His grandchildren, Justin, Miranda, Tamara, Jesse, Mitchell, Shelby, Matthew, Mellissa, Melony, Sydney, Allison, Gwendolyn. Mary M. (Hansen) Smith passed Friday evening, August 12, 2022 at Enterprise Estates Nursing Center. Family Members were at her side throughout the day and evening. Mary was 86 years, 11 months and 3 weeks old. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Family visitation will be Wednesday Aug 17, 2002 at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Enterprise Community Church in Enterprise, KS on Thursday April 18, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Arnie Boyd officiating. Graveside service to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Enterprise, KS. She was born on her maternal grandparent’s farm in Charlotte County, VA on August 20, 1935, the daughter of Annie (Powell) &amp; Master Gunnery Sgt. Cecil Hansen. Mary spent her early years there on the farm, surrounded by a large family while her father served in the USMC. After his retirement the family moved to Enterprise, KS where Mary attended Enterprise H.S. It was there that she first met her future husband, Ron Smith. After graduation she moved to Topeka, KS where she attended nursing school and worked at Merchants Bank. In 1960 she married Ron Smith (Ret. SMSGT). They spent several years in the Topeka area while Ron was stationed at Forbes Air Base. Three children were born in Topeka, Kristina, Valarie &amp; Ron Jr. (Lee). Mary spent 27 years as an Air Force military wife, moving many times as Ron’s base assignments changed. She served in the Red Cross in a number of roles and locations over the years, including Guam where she would meet the Air Evac planes coming from Vietnam to Guam. She offered comfort and what assistance she could to the wounded soldiers on their layover before their return to their homes. In later years the family was stationed in Germany where Mary traveled to Paris and numerous landmarks and castles in Germany. Upon Ron’s retirement from the AF, the family moved back to Enterprise, KS. For 40 years they made their home on Factory ST. in Enterprise. Mary was a very friendly woman who loved to talk and visit with everyone she met. She never knew a stranger. She was a lifelong church member beginning in VA and continuing on through the family's travels and The Enterprise United Methodist Church. Mary was a long time Sunday School teacher and had various committee and group roles over the years. Mary learned to play piano, crochet and sew as a young girl and continued those hobbies throughout her life. She loved flowers and her flower beds as well as houseplants. She was a steadfast Kansan and loved her state, visiting state landmarks and lakes. One of her favorite things were family picnics at Milford Lake. She was an “Avon Lady” for a number of years and thoroughly enjoyed the trips with other ladies to see what was new in Avon and visiting her many area customers. Mary is survived by her beloved husband Ron of the home. Mary adored Ron and often referred to him as the “best of the best”, three children, Kristina (Ken) Jackson, Valarie (Kirk) Greenemeyer and Ron (Maria) Smith, Jr., 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, a sister, Ruth Hansen Wilcox of VA, and other family members. Kristopher (Kris) Philley of Olathe, KS passed away on Tuesday August 2nd at the young age of 38 due to complications of Covid.

Kris was born in Marlin, TX to Martha Sue (Anderson) and Jerry Philley. He graduated from Rosebud-Lott High School in 2002. He attended Kansas State University and loved his Wildcats!

Kris is survived by his father Jerry Philley of Abilene, KS; two sisters Terri Philley and Kimberly Musser; a nephew Trey Sulak; and two nieces Freya Wood and Erin Wood along with many other family members, co-workers and friends whom he treasured as “second family.”

He will be forever remembered by his infectious laughter, gentle nature, kind heart and devoted friendship.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was born in McLouth, KS on December 17, 1942 to Roy Curtis Hopkins and Dorothy Maye (Ashworth) Hopkins. At age 13, Ruth moved with her family from McLouth to Coffeyville, KS. She graduated from high school in Coffeyville. After high school, Ruth worked as a waitress at a local soda shop where she met Basil Allen Diller, Jr. (“Al”). They were united in marriage on November 27, 1960. Ruth and Al had six children. Ruth’s favorite activity was spending time with family. She also enjoyed visiting with friends, playing cards, quilting, bowling, reading, baking, and watching K-State football. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother: Tom Hopkins; a daughter: Mary Eilene Diller; and many loved aunts, uncles, and cousins. Survivors include five children: Sherry Schooley of Manhattan, KS, Chris Diller and his wife Kelly of Erie, KS, Steve Diller of Chanute, KS, John Diller of Westmoreland, KS, and Amy Parker and her husband Tony of Manhattan, KS; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Marlene Belt and her husband John of Wichita, KS. Edmund “Ed” Zemp, age 97, of Manhattan, KS died Friday August 12, 2022 at the Home of the Flint Hills in St. George, KS. She was born March 16, 1960, in Newton, NJ, the daughter of John H. and Helen (Grabinski) Schmeal, Sr. Rosemary graduated from high school in Hackettstown, NJ, and attended cosmetology school in Manhattan after moving to Kansas in 1981. She had worked as a hairdresser at several salons in Manhattan over her 30-year career. Rosemary attended the St. George United Methodist Church. She enjoyed volunteering with the elderly, cooking, and spoiling her dog KD. Survivors include her two children: Greg Zarger and his wife Lucy of Union Beach, NJ, and Heather Heigert and her husband Michael of Manhattan; four grandchildren: Jackelyn, Jayden and Lily Zarger and Taylor Heigert; and three sisters: Kathy Smith of Lecanto, FL, Margaret Kelly of Egg Harbor Township, NJ and Lisa Gilliland of Olsburg. Rosemary was preceded in death by her brother John H. “Jack” Schmeal, Jr., her husband David Zarger, and one granddaughter Margaret Zarger. Richard Robert Callahan, age 86, of Blue Springs, MO, passed away on August 8, 2022, following a short battle with cancer. Richard was born April 19, 1936, in Manhattan, Kansas, to Robert James and Maxine Elizabeth (Van Dusen) Callahan. Richard married his wife of 57 years, Willetta M. Littrell on September 17, 1954. She preceded him in death on January 17, 2012. Richard was again blessed when he married Julie Pigg on December 15, 2013, in Blue Springs, MO. He lived in several towns in Kansas and Missouri as he perfected his trade of welding. Richard worked on many buildings in the Greater Kansas City area from 1961 to 2001. He was a member of the International Iron Workers Union, Local#10. In 1964, he settled in Lenexa, Kansas to raise his family. Richard is survived by his wife Julie, his sister Pearle Ann Bishop of Panama City, FL, four children: Ronald Callahan of Garnett, Ks; Sandra Finnicum and her husband Doug of Olathe, Kansas; Debra Callahan of Garnett, Kansas; and Linda Lapp and her husband John of Fredericksburg, VA. In addition, Richard has 10 grandchildren: Melissa Ochoa (Gilbert), Samuel Finnicum (Chelsea), Murph Finnicum (Renee), Timothy Finnicum (Kayla), Cynthia Brown (Marshall), James Brown, Jacob Sweany (Cintia), Joshua Sweany, Nathan Sweany (Alise), and Amos Sweany; and nine great-grandchildren: Richard (Ricky), Joseph, Francisco (Kiko), Karina, Liliana, Melody, Mariah, Noah, and Mia. Bonus children from his marriage to Julie include Christine Ream, Steve Kaminski, and Vicki Howe (Johnnie) as well as four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Richard worked as an iron worker/welder for 40 years in the greater Kansas City area and retired at age 65 to pursue a second career raising cattle in Garnett, Kansas. No one built a fence comparable to him. Richard’s fences, especially his fence posts, will last for many, many years to come! Richard was also a square dance caller and teacher for many years. He called for the Jet Sets and Crosstrailers Clubs for many years. He taught hundreds of people to square dance over the years through the Johnson County Parks &amp; Recreation. Upon Richard’s final retirement, he moved to Mission, TX. In November 2021, he and Julie moved to Blue Springs, MO, to be closer to family. Everyone who knew Richard was blessed. He worked hard, played hard, loved a cold beer with friends and family, and always helped with anything that needed fixing. Richard’s final resting place will be at the Valley View Memorial Park Cemetery, Manhattan, KS 66502. The family will hold a celebration of Richard’s life at a future date. Allen was born in Dodge City, KS on July 10, 1948, the son of the late Edna V (Allen) Reynolds and Charles Andrew "Andy" Reynolds. He was the widower of Barbara Ann (Tracy) Reynolds, they married in Kansas City, Kansas on July 14, 1968. Allen graduated from Dodge City High School in 1965 and the University of Missouri, Kansas City in 1972. Allen is survived by two daughters, Renae Mercado (husband Anthony), of Manhattan, KS; Kimberly Reynolds, of Saint George, KS; son, Christopher A. Reynolds, of Wichita and 5 grandchildren, Kaiton and Brecken Padget, Schandon, and Scarlett Mercado, and Marissa Reynolds. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, both parents, his sister Carol Cloug, and his daughter-in-law, Tracey Barber Reynolds. Services will be private at the convenience of the family in Dodge City. Allen will be buried with Barbara at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Henry was born in Sugar City, Colorado on October 10, 1933, a son of the late Hazel Alice (Bruce) and Henry Archie Bozarth. He graduated from Harper, KS high school and attended for 2 yrs at WSU. He served in the U.S. Army as an E-4 and worked as a tooling inspector at Boeing in Wichita for 44 yrs, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Wichita for 43 yrs, was a Lifetime (58yrs) member AF&amp;AM, Albert Pike, Trinity Lodge, Sunflower Lodge all of Wichita; Past Master and Past District Deputy Grand Master of Kansas; Past Patron of the Rose Douglas Chapter in Wichita. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Manhattan. Henry Archie Bozarth

Naida Jane (Bell) Sanders passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Chapman Valley Manor, where she had been a resident for the last four years. Naida was born in Osborne, KS on September 12, 1927, the daughter of Ruby and Alice Bell. She is survived by her daughters, Randee (Steve) Werts of Prairie Village, KS and Sandra Sanders of Kansas City, MO; and also her nieces Susan (John) Moyer and Peggy (Mark) Roser of Junction City, Sherry Boyer of Topeka, KS, and Linda Filby-Fisher of Overland Park, KS. She was preceded in death by her beloved sisters and nephew: Nila Irene Filby in 2013, Norma Jean Horner in 2022, and Jeffrey Barton Filby in 2009. Naida and her family moved from Osborne to Junction City in 1942. She was the youngest of the three Bell sisters and graduated from JCHS in 1945. She was married in 1947 and had two daughters. Being the mother of Randee and Sandy was central to Naida's life, as well as being one of the Bell sisters. Naida had many friends, among them members of two bridge clubs. She enjoyed making candy—butter almond toffee and peanut butter balls—as gifts on special occasions. She enjoyed books and crossword puzzles her entire life. She worked as Secretary to the Chief of Staff 1st infantry Division and Garrison Commander, Ft. Riley for over 22 years, retiring in March of 1990. She served as a docent for the Fort Riley Historical Society, taking visitors on tours of the Fort. She was active in her community, serving as co-chair of the Red Cross Blood Drives for many years. Naida was a member of the Friends of Dorothy Bramlage Library, Junction City Theater Guild, The Notables singing group, Geary County Historical Society, Geary County Hospital Auxiliary, and the National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees. She was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church in Junction City and loved singing with the choir. A celebration of Naida's life will be held at the church on September 8, 2022 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to JC First United Methodist Church and the Dorothy Bramlage Library.

Naida Jane (Bell) Sanders passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Chapman Valley Manor, where she had been a resident for the last four years. Naida was born in Osborne, KS on September 12, 1927, the daughter of Ruby and Alice Bell. She is survived by her daughters, Randee (Steve) Werts of Prairie Village, KS and Sandra Sanders of Kansas City, MO; and also her nieces Susan (John) Moyer and Peggy (Mark) Roser of Junction City, Sherry Boyer of Topeka, KS, and Linda Filby-Fisher of Overland Park, KS. She was preceded in death by her beloved sisters and nephew: Nila Irene Filby in 2013, Norma Jean Horner in 2022, and Jeffrey Barton Filby in 2009. Naida and her family moved from Osborne to Junction City in 1942. She was the youngest of the three Bell sisters and graduated from JCHS in 1945. She was married in 1947 and had two daughters. Being the mother of Randee and Sandy was central to Naida's life, as well as being one of the Bell sisters. Naida had many friends, among them members of two bridge clubs. She enjoyed making candy—butter almond toffee and peanut butter balls—as gifts on special occasions. She enjoyed books and crossword puzzles her entire life. She worked as Secretary to the Chief of Staff 1st infantry Division and Garrison Commander, Ft. Riley for over 22 years, retiring in March of 1990. She served as a docent for the Fort Riley Historical Society, taking visitors on tours of the Fort. She was active in her community, serving as co-chair of the Red Cross Blood Drives for many years. Naida was a member of the Friends of Dorothy Bramlage Library, Junction City Theater Guild, The Notables singing group, Geary County Historical Society, Geary County Hospital Auxiliary, and the National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees. She was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church in Junction City and loved singing with the choir. A celebration of Naida's life will be held at the church on September 8, 2022 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to JC First United Methodist Church and the Dorothy Bramlage Library.

Ada Ann Beck, 95, of Junction City, KS, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 8, 2022 at the family farm surrounded by loved ones. A funeral service will take place 10 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the Lyona United Methodist Church with Pastor Kris Brinlee officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at the church cemetery. Ada Ann was born February 16, 1927 in Junction City, KS the daughter of Harley and Hazel (Langvardt) Barton. She grew up on her family dairy farm on West Lyon Creek Road. She attended Rueben Elementary school, a one room school house near her family farm. Ada Ann graduated from Junction City High School in 1945. While attending Kansas State University, Ada Ann met the love of her life, Hayes B. Beck. They married on August 1, 1948. After marrying, Hayes sold his farmstead East of Manhattan and they moved to the Lyona Community where they purchased the Barton Farm in 1950. Together they farmed as well as owned and operated many business ventures to include a purebred hog operation and Beck’s Milky Way Dairy. She later supported her husband, Hayes, through his political career as a county commissioner. Ada Ann was a very religious woman and a member of Lyona United Methodist Church her entire life. Her love of Jesus was evident by how she loved and supported her family. She was a caretaker to many whether it be her husband, mother, children, grandchildren or pets. Her family will remember her for her strength and determination to get through the seasons of life. She truly was the glue to hold everything together. Survivors include four sons, Brenton Beck, Sr. and Tammy of Perryville, AR, Barton and Cindy Beck of Junction City, KS, Jason Beck, Sr. and Roxanne of White City, KS and Jay J. Beck of Junction City, KS; one daughter, Eulonda Eckhoff of Arkansas City, KS; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Hayes B. Beck; daughter, Tarla Gae Beck; daughter-in-law, Deborah Beck; two granddaughters, Taryn and Starlyn Beck; one brother, Lee Barton; and one sister, Janet Schlegel.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She attended Mt. Vernon grade school and later graduated from Clay Center High School with the class of 1942.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She married Donald L. Hamilton in June 1946 and they had 3 sons, Gregory Stephen, Dennis Eugene and Kelly Scott.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, Wright and Martha, husband Donald and son Gregory.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She is survived by her two sons, Dennis of Clay Center and Kelly and wife Mary of San Diego, CA.&nbsp; Four grandchildren, Lindsay Clark, Erin Hamilton, Katie Hamilton and Andy Hamilton.&nbsp; Two great grandchildren, Laramie and Landrie.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lois Jean worked for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator and later for over 20 years as secretary of McKinley School.&nbsp; &nbsp;She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.&nbsp; She also enjoyed playing bridge with her bridge clubs in Clay Center.&nbsp; She was a member of the Clay Center Covenant Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Respect calls will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday, September 9, 2022.

Frances L. “Francie” Young, 67, of Clay Center died Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at the Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka.&nbsp; She was born March 2, 1955 in Weatherford, Okalhoma, the daughter of Vernon and Lillian (Brown) Stutz.

Francie grew up in Hydro, Oklahoma before her family moved to Clay Center during her Junior year of high school.&nbsp; She graduated from CCCHS in 1973 and attended Cloud County Community College.&nbsp; Francie married Roger Young on May 15, 1987.&nbsp; The couple owned and operated The Southside from 1990 until 2005.&nbsp; Francie was also a private caregiver for many elderly residents in Clay Center.&nbsp; She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Vernon Stutz, II.

Sherry lived in the Longford, KS area and attended Walker School until the 4th&nbsp;grade. &nbsp;Her family moved east of Wakefield where she attended Bala School until the 8th&nbsp;grade, and then went on to graduate from Wakefield High School. She worked part time as an office assistant for Kirby Insurance and full time at Upland Insurance. Sherry enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s ballgames, gardening, fishing, and sewing. She was a former member of the Wakefield United Methodist Church. Naomi F. Graves was born August 5, 1941 in Picher, Oklahoma the daughter of Wilbur Dean and Naomi E. (Jarrett) Cornwell. She passed away Saturday, August 6, 2022 at the Holiday Resort Health and Rehab in Salina. On October 6, 1962 she was united in marriage to Eldon Graves in Junction City. He passed away on March 12, 1978. Naomi was a floor supervisor for Alco for many years and was a member of the St. Michael Catholic Church and the St. Michael Catholic Church Auxiliary. She was a member of the VFW and the American Legion and volunteered in several organizations including several schools as a Foster Grandparent wherever they lived across the country. She is survived by her loving sons Stewart graves and Kenneth Graves of Salina, brothers Tom Cornwell of Valley Center, Kansas, Harry Cornwell of Mayetta, Kansas, Richard Cornwell of Blue Springs, Missouri, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband and son Vincent Eugene Graves. Albert Edward Wells, Jr. passed into heaven to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 7, 2022. He was born on July 23, 1933 in Dade County, GA to Albert and Mae Belle (Haswell) Wells, Sr. He was the 5th of 7 children. Al married the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Aebi of Woodbine, on August 22, 1951, in The Chapel of the Transfiguration in Grand Teton National Park, WY.&nbsp; They made their home in Enterprise for most of their 71 years of marriage.

Al was employed as a machinist at The Ehrsam Company in Enterprise, and later at Exline in Salina, and Vacu-Blast in Abilene. Later in life, he was able to pursue his lifelong dream of being a cattle rancher until his health no longer allowed it. He attended Emmanuel Church in Abilene.

He was preceded in death by parents, 2 siblings in childhood, Jimmie Lou, and his only brother Myron; 4 other sisters, Christine (Curtis) Stephens, Jo (John) Rose, Cecille Wells, Opal (John) Craze; brother-in-law Darrell Aebi, son-in-law Ray Van Sickle and nephew Steve Stephens. Al is survived by his beloved wife Jean, daughter Christiane Van Sickle of Newton, and son Kenyon (Kathy) of Olathe. Also, grandchildren Melodi (Caleb) Wood, Brent (Jennifer) Van Sickle, Abbie Bazan and Ashley (Francisco) Pacheco as well as 7 great-grandchildren: Shane, Brook, Jude, Braden, Oliver, Bryce, and Sawyer and 6 nieces and nephews. Family was everything to him.

A funeral service will be held at Danner Funeral Home, 501 N Buckeye in Abilene on Wednesday, August 10 at 2:00 p.m. with his grandson Pastor Brent Van Sickle officiating. With great sorrow, we announce the passing of our beautiful Mother, Cathy J. Cooper 63, of Lincoln Kansas (formally Abilene). Mom left this earth peacefully, on August the 5th, 2022 with both of her sons by her side.

Cathy was born in Abilene, Kansas on January 25, 1959, to Marvin and Laura Cairns. She grew up in the Abilene area and attended the local schools.

In 1974 Cathy fell in love with Harvey Kenneth Cooper (11/12/56-9/9/09) with whom she had two sons Joshua and Aaron Cooper. Cathy was a strong woman who faced life challenges with courage and dignity, putting the needs of her family first. She worked hard doing everything from making beds and cleaning rooms at a local hotel, to standing over a hot stove for hours on end!

In 1983 Cathy attended Vernon's school of cosmetology where she earned a degree in cosmetology, passing with the top of her class. She enjoyed cutting hair and she did so for many years. However, if you knew our Mom, you knew that her favorite thing to do was cook! Man, could she cook!! There wasn't anything she couldn't make and everyone loved her cooking!

Cathy's true passion in life was her family! She loved her family! Her brothers were dear to her, as were her many nieces and nephews! Cathy's greatest pride and joy were her sons and grandchildren whom she loved more than words can tell!

Cathy is survived by her beloved sons, Joshua and Aaron Cooper. Two brothers: Dean (Ann) Cairns and David Cairns. Six grandchildren: Camryn, Dalton, Jake, Abbigal, Jeffery, Joshua, and many nieces and nephews, all who were loved dearly! Finally, with much gratitude, we give a thank you to Cathy's special friend, Harvey Rousch. We will always be grateful for you.

Mom was a woman of faith and She instilled in us the importance of family, hard work, doing what's right, and loving each other through it all!

Mom, until we meet again, you will forever be in our hearts, and we will never forget you! We love you, rest in peace.

Mom left this earth peacefully, on August the 5th, 2022 with both of her sons by her side. Cathy was born in Abilene, Kansas on January 25, 1959, to Marvin and Laura Cairns. She grew up in the Abilene area and attended the local schools. In 1974 Cathy fell in love with Harvey Kenneth Cooper (11/12/56-9/9/09) with whom she had two sons Joshua and Aaron Cooper. Cathy was a strong woman who faced life challenges with courage and dignity, putting the needs of her family first. She worked hard doing everything from making beds and cleaning rooms at a local hotel, to standing over a hot stove for hours on end! In 1983 Cathy attended Vernon's school of cosmetology where she earned a degree in cosmetology, passing with the top of her class. She enjoyed cutting hair and she did so for many years. However, if you knew our Mom, you knew that her favorite thing to do was cook! Man, could she cook!! There wasn't anything she couldn't make and everyone loved her cooking! Cathy's true passion in life was her family! She loved her family! Her brothers were dear to her, as were her many nieces and nephews! Cathy's greatest pride and joy were her sons and grandchildren whom she loved more than words can tell! Cathy is survived by her beloved sons, Joshua and Aaron Cooper. Two brothers: Dean (Ann) Cairns and David Cairns. Six grandchildren: Camryn, Dalton, Jake, Abbigal, Jeffery, Joshua, and many nieces and nephews, all who were loved dearly! Finally, with much gratitude, we give a thank you to Cathy's special friend, Harvey Rousch. We will always be grateful for you. Mom was a woman of faith and She instilled in us the importance of family, hard work, doing what's right, and loving each other through it all! Jerry Samuel Weis, PhD., 86, passed away at Good Shepherd Hospice House on Saturday, August 6, 2022. He was surrounded by family, including beloved grandchildren, who were his heart and soul. An avid storyteller, profound listener and example of a life well lived, his family would like this to be a love letter sharing a little about this man who made the world a better place. Born on December 22, 1935 in Salina, KS to Lucille Sondergard Weis and Paul Samuel Weis, Jerry was adored by his family. Two years later he was joined by his brother, Larry Paul Weis, and that’s where their story begins. “All boy” those two were, and their shared love of sports allowed them to spend a lot of time together. One of their favorite stories to tell was the summer they could only afford one baseball glove, which meant they couldn’t play on the same team. Between innings whoever had the glove would toss it to the other on their way back to the dugout. Their childhood included best friends Gerald Culley, Bob Pinkall and Rich Wilbur. These friendships would span their entire lifetime, eventually including their wives. This group, that included Jerry, Larry and their wives, called themselves the “Crazy Buddies”. They continued to share their lives, even after moves all around the country. Their travels together created fabulous memories! That’s the kind of guy Jerry was. Once you knew him, you wanted him in your life forever. Jerry was the first in his family to attend college, and his family burst with pride. He received his undergraduate degree at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, was a four year letterman in basketball, two year letterman in tennis, and served as Student Body President. In 1970, he was awarded the Outstanding Young Alumnus. Life then took him to the University of Kansas in Lawrence and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, so he could pursue his Masters’ and Doctoral degrees. It was during that time his destiny inadvertently picked up his newspaper in the KU cafeteria, and there was no turning back. He was instantly smitten with this beautiful, spunky and determined farm girl from Missouri, Linda Faye Browning. Within a week, he knew he was going to marry this girl. And he told her so. Their whirlwind courtship lasted six months and he DID marry that girl at First Baptist Church in Brunswick, Missouri on January 29, 1961. No one could deny they were the loves of each other’s lives. His career in higher education took them to the University of Minnesota at Duluth where he was an Assistant Professor, followed by a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Yale University. When Jerry told Linda he wanted to accept a job offer at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, she thought he was nuts! Who leaves Yale for Kansas? She tells the story of crying all the way from Connecticut to the Midwest. The rest, as they say, is history. Manhattan quickly became their home, and this couple spent the next 50+ years serving the community in every capacity they could. Jerry did this in the most modest of ways. He didn’t want accolades. To him, this is just what you should do. Give back, pure and simple. And always be grateful. Their union blessed them with three children and six grandchildren. His family is aching with grief right now over the loss of this great man. This is the price to be paid when someone loves the way Jerry did: unconditionally, fiercely, and without judgment. His family knew they were his everything. He did it all: coached, helped with homework, attended games and activities, nursed boo boos and broken hearts, enabled the bringing home of stray animals. He had an innate ability to listen. When you talked with him, you knew you were heard. There was a quiet intelligence about him that allowed him to view all sides of a discussion, and navigate parties to mutual understandings. He wasn’t right – and you weren’t wrong. A man way ahead of his time, he encouraged and supported his wife to further her education and spread her wings, including becoming actively involved in the community and eventually a business owner. Not many men in the 1970’s-80’s would have helped cook, clean and care for the children, all while balancing a challenging career. But Jerry did. And he did it well. His creative side was nurtured when he sketched or painted for fun. He would laugh and tell you he wasn’t very good, but his renderings showed differently. He loved to build things in his workshop, and his family treasures the furniture he built. He could fix just about anything. He and Linda bought old houses and “flipped” them, long before most people had heard that term. Friends and neighbors learned that he was always willing to lend a helping hand if needed. He was not only a champion of a diverse circle of people in his personal life; he channeled that same energy during the 34 years he spent at Kansas State University in the Division of Biology. Serving in many capacities, including Associate Professor, Associate Director and Interim Director, those who were taught by him and worked with him will passionately tell you he positively impacted more lives than anyone could ever count. He about drove “the gals in the office” crazy because they never knew where to find him. One thing, though. Jerry could tell you the names of everyone who worked at Ackert Hall … from the head honcho to the part-time maintenance guys. Everyone mattered, everyone was important. Involved in many facets during his tenure at KSU, he led the formation of the Office of Undergraduate Affairs, served three terms as an elected representative of the Faculty Senate and twice chaired the Academic Affairs Committee. He served as State President, Kansas Academy of Science. In 1991 he was one of seven KSU faculty members selected for the General Education Task Force and was also a recipient of the William Stamey Teaching Award, Arts and Sciences. Upon retiring from KSU in 2000, Jerry joined Linda in running her real estate business, Realty Executives Weis Real Estate. For the next 20 years, he worked tirelessly in the real estate industry. The integrity with which he lived was a part of his every transaction. Employees and clients were treated like family, and his word was his bond. He didn’t understand why all that blasted paperwork was needed; what happened to a verbal agreement and a handshake? But he begrudgingly learned how to do it all. He worked hard and served many people: President and Board of Directors, Manhattan Arts Council; President, Manhattan Rotary Club; Chairman, District Rotary Polio Plus Campaign; Distinguished Service Award, Rotary International; Rotarian of the Year and Paul Harris Fellow, Manhattan Rotary Club; Rotary International Foundation “Citation for Meritorious Service” and “Service Above Self” award; Rotary International Foundation “Scholarships” subcommittee chair; Board of Directors and KSU Campaign Chair, United Way of Manhattan; President, Eugene Field PTA; President, Manhattan Assn of Realtors; President, Peace Lutheran Church Council; President, First Lutheran Church Council; Chairperson, FLC Lamb of God Board; 13 years on the Board of Trustees, Kansas Wesleyan University, Jerry served as Chair of Troop 74 Committee, Boy Scouts of America for many years. Through the years, he and his wife, Linda, hosted international students from Peru, Colombia, and Sweden. A devout man of God, Jerry was a lifelong Lutheran and while in Manhattan, actively volunteered during his 13 years at Peace Lutheran Church and 43 years at First Lutheran Church. For more than 25 years he was a leader on the Lutheran Campus Ministry Board at KSU. We are confident that every Sunday morning in Heaven, Jerry will be sitting up front at worship, just to make sure he has the best seat in the house to see “the munchkins” during the Children’s Sermon. Survivors include his wife of 61+ years, Linda Browning Weis, of the home; children Mark S. Weis, Ted P. Weis, Stephanie Weis Grynkiewicz (Ross), and their families: Wilson and Caroline Weis, Isabella and Julia Weis, Joshua and Samantha Grynkiewicz, Patrick Randolph; brother Larry (Janet) Weis; nieces/nephew Barbara Hansen, Pamela Eck (Les), Bruce Weis, and their families. Gloria Mary Bragga Hunt, age 96 of Manhattan Kansas passed away August 10, 2022 She was born on February 22, 1926 in Sunnyvale California in Santa Clara County. The daughter of Joseph Veverous Bragga and Phoebe Rose Bragga Rodgers. Her parents came to Sausalito California in 1921 from Massachusetts to manage the El Monte Hotel. Gloria was proud of her Portuguese heritage and enjoyed learning and speaking the language as a child with her grandparents and then again later in life. On June 19, 1944 in Marion County, San Rafael California she was married to Ivan Ray Hunt. They were married for 60 years and lived in Sausalito California until they moved to Manhattan Kansas in November of 1996 to be near Ivan’s twin sister and family. Gloria met Ivan a fun-loving young man from Tryon Oklahoma during World War II while he was stationed in California serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. Gloria grew up in Sausalito California graduated from Tamalpais High School class of 1943. After graduation she went to work for a short time with the New York life Insurance Company of San Francisco. Gloria enjoyed being a homemaker and caring for her husband and mother. She had a special love for animals, she enjoyed feeding and caring for all wildlife and domesticated animals that came her way. She was extremely fond of cats and adopted and cared for many over the years. Gloria had a passion and a love for all sports her favorites were baseball, figure skating and rodeo events. Gloria loved living in her beautiful community in Sausalito she enjoyed everything the lovely countryside had to offer. One of her favorite daily activities was going for long walks with her mother and enjoying the beautiful Sausalito Bay. She always talked about how special it was to live in an area that she could watch the Golden Gate Bridge being built. She would always say “it’s not as long as it looks on TV”, and that her and her mother walked across it several times. After arriving in Manhattan Kansas, Ivan and Gloria settled into small town living, enjoying family and cheering on the Wildcats. Their favorite activity was going on daily drives in the countryside enjoying all the small communities surrounding the area. They especially enjoyed all the local restaurants and unique shopping. Gloria and Ivan enjoyed checking out every thrift and antique store they came across. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph in 1931 and Phoebe in 1995 and her beloved husband Ivan Hunt on July 17, 2004. Five brother-in-law's Rev. Emery Hunt, Charles Hunt, Rev. CL Moore, Oscar R. Larson Jr. and Paul Cook as well as five sister-in-law's Helen Hunt, Ruth Moore, Iva May Larson, Mary Ellen Cook and Dixie Hunt. Cremation is planned with a private service. Gloria and her husband Ivan will be reunited and returned to her beloved California area. A memorial has been established for the American Heart Association.
