RILEY COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a suspects for an alleged violent attack.

Just after 2p.m. Tuesday, officers filed a report of aggravated assault in the 1500 block of Pillsbury Drive, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report. 

A 55-year-old man and a 45-year-old man reported a known 31-year-old man attacked them with a knife. Jose Maria Lara, 31, of Manhattan, was arrested at approximately 3:19 p.m. Lara remains jailed on an $8,000 bond.

RILEY COUNTY—A man involved in a fatal southwest Kansas crash was arrested Tuesday in Riley County.

According to the Riley County Police Department activity reported, just before 5p.m.&nbsp; Tuesday 21-year-old Nicholas Ellis Biddle of Wichita, was arrested in the 1000 block of S. Seth Child Road on a Seward County District Court warrant for involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, maximum speed limits and failure to yield at a stop or yield sign.

In June of 2024,the Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2023 Chevy Silverado driven by Biddle was southbound on Road T at U.S. 160 in Seward County.

The driver failed to yield and struck a westbound 2017 Nissan Rogue driven by Jamee E.&nbsp;Perez, 42, Hugoton. After impact both vehicles rolled an unknown number of times before coming and came to rest in the ditch.

EMS transported Biddle and Perez to Southwest Medical in Liberal where Perez was pronounced deceased. Both drivers were properly restrained, according to the KHP.

According to the Riley County Police Department, Biddle met the requirement of a $50,000 bond and is no longer confined in the Riley County Jail.

DICKINSON COUNTY —In January of 2026, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office received tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to a media release from the Dickinson County Sheriff.

The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation which led to the execution of a search warrant on February 11,&nbsp; at a residence in the 200 Block of South Garfield Street in Enterprise, Kansas. 

Additional search warrants were executed and an arrest warrant was issued on April 1, 2026, for Ellsworth Jack Primmer.

On April 2, police in Des Moines, Iowa arrested Ellsworth Jack Primmer on the warrant issued through the Dickinson County District Court. Primmer was extradited back to Kansas and booked into the Dickinson County Detention Facility on April 14, on multiple counts of sexual exploitation of a child.

Kansas child sex crime suspect captured in Iowa

SEDGWICK COUNTY — A 16-year-old girl has been arrested in Oklahoma in connection with a Wichita shooting that injured two people Sunday.

At about 3 p.m. Sunday, Wichita police were dispatched to a disturbance in the 3400 block of North Inwood. During that investigation, officers learned an unreported shooting had occurred earlier that day, at about 3 a.m., in a park parking lot in the 3100 block of North Oliver.

Preliminary investigation found that an 18-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl were in the parking lot when they were confronted by the 16-year-old suspect. A disturbance followed, and the suspect fired a gun, striking both victims.

The 18-year-old suffered a graze wound to her lower torso. The 17-year-old suffered a graze wound to her upper torso. Both injuries were non-life threatening.

As the investigation continued, officers and investigators learned the suspect had been reported as a runaway and had traveled to Oklahoma. The Wichita Police Department coordinated with the Oklahoma City Police Department, which located and apprehended her.

Wichita police are working with Oklahoma City authorities to return the suspect to Wichita. She will be booked on two counts of aggravated battery.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. Moore was facing a possible sentence of up to six months in jail after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/sherrone-moore-michigan-football-stalking-charges-a06f4a64bb8743b53e20622fa92df6f9">pleading no contest</a>&nbsp;to trespassing and malicious use of a telecom device. But Judge J. Cedric Simpson ordered no time in custody.

He said jail wasn't warranted, though he warned Moore that “all bets are off” if he violates probation. Simpson, too, said his decision was greatly influenced by the ex-coach's wife, Kelli.

Moore, 40, was fired on Dec. 10 after leading the Wolverines for two seasons, following&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/jim-harbaugh">Jim Harbaugh’s move to the</a>&nbsp;NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers. It was a stunning dismissal at one of college football’s most prestigious programs.

Moore was accused that same day of confronting Paige Shiver, with whom he had been having an affair, and blaming her for his firing, even threatening to kill himself with butter knives and kitchen scissors in her apartment. Authorities said she had ended the affair and spoken to school officials about it.

By ordering probation, “I would let Ms. Shiver know that this court is not by any means lessening the impact of those events,” the judge said.

“Frankly, Mr. Moore, you had no right to do what you did,” he added. “I know that she was placed in fear. It was a traumatic experience that day for you. It was certainly a traumatic experience for her. But you had no right to spread your pain to her.”

Shiver did not attend the hearing but released a statement, saying the sentence “does not reflect the harm done to me.”

“He broke into my apartment, crying, yelling, enraged, and came at me with knives. I was threatened, and I feared for my life,” she said.

Moore was initially charged with felony home invasion, stalking and illegal entry. But Washtenaw County prosecutors agreed to a deal in which he pleaded no contest to two other misdemeanors.

Moore spoke briefly in court, thanking his wife for standing by him but not saying anything about Shiver. Defense lawyer Ellen Michaels told the judge that Moore had received counseling and was focused on his family.

The judge repeatedly praised Kelli Moore. Simpson said he was especially moved by a letter she wrote in support of her husband. He also noted that she was concerned about Moore's mental health when she calmly called police on the day of his firing in search of him.

“The person, quite frankly Mr. Moore, that is saving you from the full wrath of this court is the one you betrayed,” Simpson said. “I don't know where your wife Kelli finds her strength.”

Moore responded to the judge by nodding, while his wife’s eyes welled with tears in the courtroom's front row.

The judge also cited the “courage” of prosecutors by backing off from the initial charges.

"When the charges were filed they were appropriate," Simpson said. "But as with any case, as more facts become known and as more things happen, the facts and the analysis change.”

The plea deal came after Michaels planned to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/video/ex-michigan-football-coach-sherrone-moores-attorney-seeks-to-have-charges-dismissed-e07c02892ab24eb28a4904d0d717fd9e">aggressively challenge</a>&nbsp;how police gathered and shared information to get an arrest warrant. She argued that police didn't disclose that Moore and Shiver had a working relationship that involved calls and text messages.

Moore did not harm himself on Dec. 10 and was peacefully arrested in a parking lot away from Shiver's apartment.

When the hearing ended, Moore leaned over a courtroom barrier and hugged his wife. Outside the courthouse, he held a Bible in one hand and her hand with the other.

“Sherrone is grateful for this matter to be resolved and he and his wife, Kelli, are ready to move forward with their family and focus on the next chapter,” Michaels said.

Fired Michigan coach, Kan. native, sentenced for incident involving ex-mistress

SEDGWICK COUNTY— Police have arrested two people in connection with an April 11 shooting at an apartment complex in the 500 block of North Nims in Wichita.

Upon arrival, officers located a 31-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wounds to her upper torso. Officers immediately began life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.

Officers also located three additional victims who had been battered during the incident: a 28-year-old woman, a 32-year-old woman, and a 31-year-old man.

Preliminary investigation indicates a large disturbance occurred in the parking lot of the apartment complex before shots were fired.&nbsp;The suspects fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.

On April 13, officers and investigators located the suspects and took them into custody. A 31-year-old man&nbsp; and a 30-year-old woman were arrested in connection with the case.

The 31-year-old man identified from county arrest records as Brian Gurrola was booked on requested charges that include two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated battery and one count of criminal possession of a firearm.

A 30-year-old woman identified from arrest records as Selena Perez&nbsp; was booked on two counts of aggravated battery and one count of obstructing apprehension or prosecution.

The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for formal charging consideration.

2 jailed after Kan. woman shot, 3 battered in parking lot fight

CLEARWATER, Kan. — The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office has completed its investigation into the August 2025 death of a 15-month-old Clearwater child.

On Monday, April 13, the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office charged 31-year-old Shanna Kay Whitton with one count of first-degree felony murder, one count of abuse of a child, one count of aggravated child endangerment and one count of aggravated arson in connection with the death of her son, Matthew Jon Whitton.

On Aug. 25, 2025, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s deputies, Clearwater Police officers, Sedgwick County EMS and the Clearwater Fire Department responded to the Mimosa Arms Apartments in the 700 block of East Janet Street in Clearwater for an unconscious 15-month-old child who had reportedly choked on food.

Officers found Matthew not breathing and began lifesaving efforts until EMS and fire personnel arrived and took over care. Matthew was taken by EMS to a Wichita hospital in extremely critical condition. Despite continued medical intervention, he died at the hospital on Aug. 28.

The Clearwater Police Department asked the Sheriff’s Office to take over the investigation.

An autopsy was conducted Aug. 31, 2025, at the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Center. On Jan. 14, 2026, the final autopsy report determined the cause of death was complications of hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy caused by an intentionally inflicted asphyxia event and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

During the investigation into the circumstances of Matthew’s death, detectives reviewed a reported apartment firet&nbsp;that occurred July 26, 2025, at the same residence. Investigators determined the fire started in Matthew’s bedroom while he was inside. Fire investigators concluded the fire was intentionally set. Several apartments in the building were occupied at the time.

Whitton was originally arrested Oct. 9, 2025, on arson-related charges. On Oct. 15, 2025, the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office charged her with six counts of aggravated arson and two counts of arson in connection with the July 26, 2025, fire. The charges were filed in the 18th Judicial District Court and Whitton has remained in custody since her arrest.

On April 3, 2026, detectives presented findings related to Matthew’s death to the District Attorney’s Office. The case was amended Monday to include the aforementioned charges related to Matthew’s death.

Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter said cases involving the death of a child are especially difficult. “These investigations take time because we have a responsibility to get them right,” Easter said. “Our detectives are committed to putting the pieces together and being a voice for children who can’t speak for themselves.”

The Sheriff’s Office can confirm additional incidents involving Shanna Kay Whitton, Matthew Jon Whitton and another deceased child are part of this ongoing investigation. All incidents remain part of an active investigation.

As additional facts are uncovered, they will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office.

Sheriff details how Kansas woman killed her 15-month-old son

WICHITA, Kan. — A Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office detention deputy was arrested Saturday, according to sheriff's department spokesman Branden Stitt.

Wichita police arrested 21-year-old Joseph Warkins of Wichita and booked him into the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility on April 12 on a requested charge of misdemeanor criminal restraint.

Warkins joined the Sheriff’s Office as a detention deputy in January 2026. The Sheriff’s Office has since terminated his employment.

RENO COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a woman on multiple allegations after an arrest in Hutchinson.

Just before 2:30p.m. Thursday, police were dispatched to a disturbance at the Commerce Gardens Apartments, 1801 Lyman Avenue, in Hutchinson, according to a media release. 

Officers located a woman suffering from severe injuries. She was transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment.

During the investigation, officers identified Tori T. Randle, 45, of Hutchinson, as the suspect involved in the altercation. Randle was later located in a nearby apartment within the Commerce Gardens complex and taken into custody without incident.

She is being held on requested charges of Attempted Second-Degree Homicide, Aggravated Kidnapping, and Interference with Law Enforcement.

Kansas woman accused of violent attack on another woman

JACKSON COUNTY, Kan. —Law enforcement are investigating a Kansas man on drug allegations.

Just before 11p.m. on April 3, 2026, sheriff's deputies arrested 40-year-old Alejandro Garcia Jr. of Topeka after discovering illegal drug contraband in a parked Chevrolet Equinox near Mayetta that he allegedly had been driving, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

RILEY COUNTY –&nbsp;The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) arrested a former Riley County Jail corrections officer.

Just after 9:30a.m. Friday, KBI agents arrested 24-year-old Ashley Britt, 24, Manhattan at 2025 Little Kitten Avenue in Manhattan, according to a media release from the KBI.&nbsp; Britt was arrested on a warrant for eight counts of trafficking contraband in a correctional institution.

In October of 2025, the Riley County Police Department (RCPD) requested the KBI investigate after Britt reportedly provided contraband to an inmate. When RCPD learned of the allegations Britt was placed on administrative leave, but then resigned.

During the investigation, agents discovered Britt had been providing contraband to inmates on several occasions. Following the arrest, Britt was booked into the Geary County Jail. All suspects are presumed innocent unless, or until, proven guilty in a court of law.

BARTON COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating the death of a missing Great Bend girl and have made an arrest.

Just&nbsp; 8:30p.m. Wednesday,&nbsp; police responded to a call of a missing 14-year-old girl, according to a media release from Great Bend Police. The girl was last reported to have been attending a class at Holy Family School located at 4200 Broadway Avenue in Great Bend.

Great Bend Police Officers fielded multiple calls regarding potential locations and areas where the missing girl could possibly be located, but she was not found.

Just after 9a.m. Thursday, Great Bend Police Officers responded to the 4700 block of 17th Street Terrace in Great Bend where the body of a girl was located behind a large dirt pile. She was determined to be deceased and has been positively identified.

Her identity is being withheld currently to allow for notification of family members. Investigators and Officers processed the crime scene, conducted numerous interviews, and executed multiple search warrants.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested and transported to the Barton County Detention Center on requested charges of 1st Degree Murder.

MARION COUNTY —A Kansas teacher accused of child sex crimes is to return to court Friday.

Brett McGee, 30, is expected to appear for a preliminary hearing, according to the county attorney's office.

On February 23, the Marion County Sheriff's office Lt. Detective Aaron Christner received a report on inappropriate communication between a student and a teacher from Peabody-Burns High School, according to a media release from the sheriff's office.

The investigation revealed the teacher had sexual contact with a student. With assistance from the Kansas Internet Crimes Against Children's Task Force, further evidence was discovered.&nbsp; The following day,&nbsp; McGee was arrested and booked into jail on requested charges of aggravated indecent liberties with a child age 14-16; unlawful sexual relations, teacher with student and interference with law enforcement; conceal, alter or destroy evidence in a felony case, according to online jail records.&nbsp; &nbsp;He is listed as the&nbsp;Vocational Agriculture teacher at Peabody-Burns USD 398, according to the school web site.&nbsp; McGee remains in custody.

The Marion County Sheriff asked that anyone with additional information on the case or any other mistreatment of a child to call them.

KANSAS CITY– A Kansas man was sentenced this week for stealing 41 firearms from a gun store in Raytown, Mo., and for transporting child pornography on his cell phone into the United States from Mexico, according to the United State's Attorney.

Frank Guereca, 24, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Roseann A. Ketchmark to 97 months in prison without parole for stealing firearms from a federal firearms licensee and for transportation of child pornography.

On June 16, 2023, Guereca and two others backed a stolen U-Haul truck into the store of a federally licensed firearms dealer,&nbsp;located in Raytown, Mo., creating a hole in the front of the business.&nbsp; Thereafter, Guereca and the two others entered through the hole and took 41 firearms from the business.&nbsp; One of the stolen pistols from the gun store was recovered in Tracy, Calif., on Nov. 14, 2023. A second stolen pistol was recovered in Chihuahua, Mexico, on Dec. 19, 2023. A third stolen pistol was recovered in Juarez, Mexico, on Feb. 6, 2024.

Guereca was arrested on April 25, 2024, as he attempted to cross back into the United States from Mexico. Guereca had in his possession a Samsung Galaxy cell phone, which was seized by law enforcement.&nbsp; Subsequent review of the contents of the phone pursuant to a federal search warrant revealed at least 250 images and 70 videos depicting child pornography, which Guereca transported into the United States from Mexico.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection records, Guereca had previously crossed the border approximately 20 times since the burglary and theft on June 16, 2023.

Kan. man going to prison for stealing firearms, transporting child porn

After the law enforcement investigation of the Salina Animal Shelter was&nbsp;<a href="https://salinapost.com/posts/0685c7eb-0aa5-4318-be68-c36f6341b2cf">turned over to the Saline County Attorney's office</a>, charges have&nbsp; been filed against the managers of the shelter.

According to Saline County Attorney John Reynolds, he filed charges against Salina Animal Shelter managers, Monique Hawley and Andrea Murphy on Wednesday.

Saline Co. animal shelter managers face animal cruelty charges

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Prosecutors are seeking&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/tiger-woods">Tiger Woods</a>&nbsp;' prescription drug records from a pharmacy, a week after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/tiger-woods-crash-bodycam-video-president-5d9f2443ef415040a45e7f0a7e4f4baa">his vehicle crashed</a>&nbsp;in Florida and he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Prosecutors in Florida on Tuesday said they planned to issue a subpoena seeking copies of all prescription medication records for the legendary golfer on file at Lewis Pharmacy in Palm Beach, Florida from the start of the year through the end of last month.

Prosecutors in Martin County, Florida, want the times the prescriptions were filled, the number of pills, the dosage amounts and any instructions that accompanied the pills, such as warnings about driving while taking them, according to documents in an online court docket.

Any objections to the subpoena must be filed with the State Attorney’s Office within 10 days. Neither Lewis Pharmacy nor Woods’ attorney, Doug Duncan, immediately responded to emails seeking comment.

Woods pleaded not guilty in&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/tiger-woods-crash-dui-arrest-masters-9c5ec2a699599289d263d553e309928e">his driving under the influence case</a>&nbsp;in Florida last week, hours after a sheriff’s report said deputies found two pain pills in his pocket and he showed signs of impairment after his SUV clipped a trailer and rolled over on its side.

Woods was traveling at high speeds on a beachside, residential road on Jupiter Island with a 30 mph (nearly 50 kph) speed limit when the accident occurred, authorities said. The truck had $5,000 in damage, according to an incident report. Woods agreed to a Breathalyzer test that showed no signs of alcohol, but he refused a urine test, authorities said.

Woods said last week that he is stepping away to seek treatment.

It’s the second time Woods has taken a leave following a car crash. In 2009, after his SUV plowed into a fire hydrant and tree outside his home near Orlando, he took a leave of absence to work on being a better person. That lasted four months and he returned at the Masters.

He also was in a 2021 car crash in Los Angeles that damaged his right leg so badly he said doctors considered amputation.

Tiger Woods' medication records sought by prosecutors in DUI case

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A man arrested in Missouri for a&nbsp;deadly shooting in Wichita will return to court Thursday.

Donny J. Harris, 27, of Springfield, Missouri, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in the courtroom of Judge Jeffrey Goering, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office. He is charged with first-degree murder.

Just after 8a.m. Jan. 26., police were dispatched to the&nbsp;the 900 block of East Indianapolis in Wichita&nbsp;for a reported welfare check after receiving information about a man down, according to Officer Kris Gupilan.

Upon arrival, officers located 37-year-old Julio Osborne suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Wichita police officers and detectives conducted a thorough and comprehensive investigation, working through challenging weather conditions and utilizing multiple departmental resources.

Officers from multiple WPD sections, Crime Scene Investigators,&nbsp;K-9 Mantra, and&nbsp;Flock technology&nbsp;were utilized to canvass the area, locate evidence, and develop investigative leads.&nbsp;K-9 Mantra located multiple shell casings in the snow during the search.

As a result of this coordinated effort, detectives were able to quickly identify a suspect identified as Harris and establish probable cause. An arrest warrant was issued for first-degree murder.

Working in close coordination with the Springfield Police Department, Harris was located and arrested on the evening of Jan. 26, in Springfield, Missouri.&nbsp;

Harris was booked into the Sedgwick County jail on February 7, according to online jail records.&nbsp;

FRANKLIN COUNTY —Law enforcement and USD 290 are investigating alleged threats made toward students at Ottawa High School,&nbsp;120 S Ash Street in Ottawa, and have made an arrest.

Staff at the high school reported the alleged threat that were specific to identified individuals and not to the school, student body, staff or the public, according to a media release from police.&nbsp; All affected victims and families and were notified.

School resource officers and detectives investigated and arrested a 15-year-old student on requested charges of criminal threats. The student is being held in the Franklin County Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center.

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Police arrested a ninth person Tuesday as a result of the human trafficking operation Easter weekend in Sedgwick County.  Ruben Allan Nuncio, age 36 of Park City, was arrested and booked on requested charges Electronic Solicitation of a Minor and Promoting Obscenity.

The arrests also included Jose Salaicez, 43, Wichita; Rithesh Vooturi, 24, Wichita; Diego Rubin-Mancha, Maize; Jeremiah Johnson, 43, Goddard; Jason Jaso, 48, Wichita; Mitchell Norris, 31, Milan, Kansas; Troy Langhover, 49, Valley Center and Max Shellburg, 37, Derby.

During the operation, investigators identified 6 women involved in the sale of sexual relations. Among them were potential victims of human trafficking and there are ongoing efforts to provide them with appropriate assistance and resources.

9 men arrested in Kansas prostitution investigation

JACKSON COUNTY, Kan. —Law enforcement are investigating a suspect on drug allegations.

Just after 2a.m. April 5, a Jackson County Sheriff’s K-9 alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics in a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 parked near Mayetta, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

The alleged driver of the vehicle, Dustin MacAllister Nicol, 45, of Mayetta, was placed under arrest and booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of THC, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kan. sheriff's K9 alerted to meth in parked pickup

LOGAN COUNTY –&nbsp;The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) arrested a Logan County EMT Wednesday morning for alleged child sex crimes.

Just before 9:30a.m., KBI agents with the Child Victims Unit executed an arrest warrant at 703 W. Third St., in Oakley, for Dennis D. Dees, 39, of WaKeeney. Dees was arrested on requested charges that include 21 counts of sexual exploitation of a child.&nbsp;

On April 4, 2025, the WaKeeney Police Department requested the KBI investigate a case involving solicitation of a minor. The WaKeeney Police Department was initially contacted by the St. Croix Sheriff’s Office in Wisconsin about the case. During the investigation, evidence of child sexual abuse material was discovered on Dees’ electronic devices.

Following his arrest, Dees was booked into the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office Jail.&nbsp;
