On July 17, JC Breakfast Optimist Club’s member/guest speaker was Martine Chery- Hilaire. Martine is originally from Haiti and has lived in Junction City for 15 years having been petitioned by her mother to be able to come to the United States. After five years, Martine joined the Army and ended up at Fort Riley. Martine owns and operates the Chez Matou Green Machine Food Truck located on North Washington Street in Junction City.

She and her husband established a 501c3 in 2022 titled First Thousand Members Club. It is that Club that is hosting the First Annual Harmony Fest. Martine stated that “when I first came here, I didn’t feel connected to the community.” Over time she has become involved with her church, the JC Breakfast Optimist Club, Live Well Geary County, serving on the Site Council at Eisenhower Elementary, being involved with the Booster Club, reading to students at Westwood Elementary and is working to do more to celebrate the diversity of Junction City.

“The Harmony Fest will provide a platform to showcase cultures and engage the community in learning about different cultures, encourage collaboration and cooperation. The more we get to know about each other, we find out that we are more alike than different” Martine said.

The event will be on August 24th from 3:00-10:00 PM in Heritage Park in Junction City. At this point 13 different cultures have agreed to share information and food to share at the event. Other activities will include live music, cultural performances, workshops, food contests, an open Mic, a Kids Zone, a raffle, cultural games, vendor expos, street performances and storytelling. Admission to the event is free.

On Tuesday, July 16th, Jordan McCann, Rotarian, introduced Nate Butler, State Representative of the 68th District to JC Rotary.

Full-scale exercise will be held on Post Wednesday

K-State became a pioneer radio voice when station KSAC first aired on Dec. 1, 1924. The university will commemorate this historic milestone as the first educational broadcasting station in Kansas with the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="http://www.k-state.edu/radio-centennial">K-State Radio Centennial: A Century of Sound and Service</a>. The event will take place from 10-11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, on the west side of Nichols Hall, 702 Mid-Campus Drive, on the K-State Manhattan campus.

"We are excited to commemorate a century of broadcasting excellence at K-State, celebrating the rich legacy of Kansas radio,” said Allison Mazzei, Kansas Association of Broadcasters president. “As one of the few surviving examples of their kind in the United States, these iconic towers symbolize the university's dedication to connecting and educating communities. 

The public celebration will highlight K-State’s broadcasting legacy with performances by the Pride of Wildcat Land marching band and theatre program students. Attendees will also hear from speakers, including former U.S. Sen. and KSAC broadcaster Sam Brownback, journalist and former National Public Radio Vice President for News and Information William Buzenberg, National Association of Broadcasting President Curtis LeGeyt and K-State Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff Marshall Stewart.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Junction City Commission has voted to make a counteroffer to Geary County of a proposed flat EMS fee of $145,000 per month for fiscal year 2024. The city and county have been at odds for some time on the EMS fees.

The city has approved a motion that they are considering a proposed budget for 2025 with a property tax levy of 50.115 mills. That would exceed the revenue neutral rate, necessitating a public hearing.

Staff recommended that hearing be held during the second commission meeting in September.

WASHINGTON COUNTY —A Manhattan man died in an accident just after 12:30p.m. Tuesday in Washington County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2020 Chevy Silverado driven by&nbsp;Brian L&nbsp;Dowling, 46, Manhattan, was eastbound on U.S. 36 five miles east of Cuba, Kansas.&nbsp;

The driver was attempting to pass another vehicle, didn't return to the driving lane and struck a westbound 2023 Peterbilt semi driven by Wayne M&nbsp;&nbsp;Thomsen, 71, Waterville.

EMS transported Dowling to the Washington County Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.&nbsp; Thomsen was not injured. Dowling was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.

Steffen Taylor of Freedom, OK was traveling south on K57 Highway in his 1998 Peterbilt semitruck when his vehicle struck a horse. The horse was not located on scene.

&nbsp;The 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, officially marked its return from a 9-month deployment to Europe in support of Atlantic Resolve by uncasing its colors in an early Sunday morning ceremony on July 14. That signifies the completion of Demon Brigade's overseas mission and their return to operations at Fort Riley.

“Our unit is home after supporting our Allies and partners throughout Europe during a crucial time. Your work throughout these last 9 months has made a lasting impact and you should be proud of what you have accomplished,” said Col. Chad Corrigan, the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade commander.

Throughout the deployment that began in October 2023, more than 1,800 Soldiers were deployed and performed missions at various locations across Europe.

Dispersed across six countries, Demon Brigade Soldiers built relationships, participated in NATO exercises, and they furthered the rich history and legacy of this great division by executing all missions in a very controlled, deliberate and safe manner from start to finish,” said Maj. Gen. Monté Rone, commanding general of the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley.

The 1st Combat Aviation Brigade provided aviation support and executed realistic training throughout Europe, including U.S. Army Europe and Africa’s DEFENDER 24 exercise series, aerial gunneries, and engagements with European communities.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Big Red One Combat Aviation returns to Fort Riley

The Geary County Senior Center will be closed Wednesday for maintenance work.

During the past week I have been asked by a number of people about what I would write about, for what will be my final Junction City 5/15 Report. On Wednesday, July 17 I will retire as City Manager here after 9 years and 6 months and will conclude my full-time career in Kansas City Management for 35 years and almost 5 months. It also concludes nearly 45 years of public service as I spent nearly 10 years as a County Extension Agent.

I never had an inkling I would ever have a career in City government until late 1988. I saw an ad in the newspaper that a City in Northwest Kansas looking to fill the position of City Administrator which was being reopened after being vacated for about 8 years after the first ever City Administrator left that City after serving for about 2 years. As they say, it doesn’t cost to apply so I sent a resume and a letter of application. I did have experience at managing events such as a County Fair which included many working with many volunteers, and I had worked with many to reach successful conclusions. I understood budgeting and financing as this was during the 80’s farm crisis and I had worked with a number of producers who were risking to lose everything they had as Ag commodity prices had bottomed, and interest rates had sky rocketed. Simply it was tough out on the Farm. Those experiences were a great influence that stuck with me over the past 35 years.

Yes that community interviewed me, offered me the job, and the I began what has been a great and sometimes wild pathway since then. I always had a passion for government issues as that was

instilled into by my Dad, so it was easy to learn that part. I always give credit for my business sense to Dad and Grandpa Dinkel. Yes, both were farmers, but trust me they instilled a strong sense of business into me.

I have been through blizzards in Northwest Kansas that piled up large drifts of snow in the City in Northwest Kansas that shut down the community for a number of days. I managed a City where a destructive tornado affected about 1/3 of the City and destroyed 200 homes, including ours, destroyed the only grocery store in town, and did major damage at the high school and hospital. And yes I experienced the flooding of the basement of the water plant here and losing the ability to supply the City with water for a couple of days. I have experienced trying to put together a financial plan for various projects or finding a way to get a City through the costs of crisis such as a tornado. And no doubt, the financial issues here in Junction City were a challenge, but the General Obligation Debt has decreased substantially and yes, cash carryover in the City funds has increased.

For those who have followed me, you know I always tie myself my past experiences growing up as a Farm Kid. I know what it is like to see a wheat crop getting hailed the day before harvest or going through a drought and know how Dad had to manage through that. Yes, maybe at times I can get a little conservative, but that is the way I am wired.

I have had the privilege of leading many great employees over the years and for the past 9 plus years the employees here in Junction City have joined me in making this an Outstanding City Team. I thank them for everyone they do for the City. Not always an easy or thankful job.

Most importantly I have had the support of my family. I am certain it is not always easy to be the wife of the City Manager. Not only does she have to hear the many comments, but she also had to put up with me with the issues I dealt with in this career. Even though the girls were no longer living with us for the most part when we moved here, they also had moments of having to deal with being the City Manager’s kids. Paula, thanks for your support, love, patience and for just having to dealwith me. Emily, Wendy, and Macey I am proud to be your Dad and thanks for your support over the years.

I have enjoyed serving the Junction City Community since January 5, 2015. Thank you for the City Commission for giving me this opportunity. Many have appreciated my efforts here. I know I can’t please everyone, and I can live with that. There always can be many sides of any issue. I have tried to use this column to give you information about the City and what we deal with.

The office is nearly cleaned out and over the next three days, I will try to get the last few details taken care of. It has been a good run. We will see you down the Trail somewhere

Those experiences were a great influence that stuck with me over the past 35 years.Yes that community interviewed me, offered me the job, and the I began what has been a great and sometimes wild pathway since then. I always had a passion for government issues as that wasinstilled into by my Dad, so it was easy to learn that part. I always give credit for my business sense to Dad and Grandpa Dinkel. Yes, both were farmers, but trust me they instilled a strong sense of business into me.I have been through blizzards in Northwest Kansas that piled up large drifts of snow in the City in Northwest Kansas that shut down the community for a number of days. I managed a City where a destructive tornado affected about 1/3 of the City and destroyed 200 homes, including ours, destroyed the only grocery store in town, and did major damage at the high school and hospital. And yes I experienced the flooding of the basement of the water plant here and losing the ability to supply the City with water for a couple of days. I have experienced trying to put together a financial plan for various projects or finding a way to get a City through the costs of crisis such as a tornado. And no doubt, the financial issues here in Junction City were a challenge, but the General Obligation Debt has decreased substantially and yes, cash carryover in the City funds has increased.For those who have followed me, you know I always tie myself my past experiences growing up as a Farm Kid. I know what it is like to see a wheat crop getting hailed the day before harvest or going through a drought and know how Dad had to manage through that. Yes, maybe at times I can get a little conservative, but that is the way I am wired.I have had the privilege of leading many great employees over the years and for the past 9 plus years the employees here in Junction City have joined me in making this an Outstanding City Team. I thank them for everyone they do for the City. Not always an easy or thankful job.Most importantly I have had the support of my family. I am certain it is not always easy to be the wife of the City Manager. Not only does she have to hear the many comments, but she also had to put up with me with the issues I dealt with in this career. Even though the girls were no longer living with us for the most part when we moved here, they also had moments of having to deal with being the City Manager’s kids. CVB seeks volunteers for a State Fair booth

The public retirement reception for Junction City Manager Allen Dinkel is scheduled from 1:30 to 4;30 p.m. Wednesday at the Junction City Municipal Auditorium.

Speaking to the city commission Tuesday night Dinkel said, "What makes this community so great for me as a city manager is I worked as a team with some great, important employees."&nbsp;

Dinkel asked the city commission to support the staff, noting that they're what makes this city work. He is wrapping up more than nine and half years of service as the Junction City Manager, and 35 years of service overall in city management.

Retiring Junction City Manager will be recognized

The Geary County Sheriff's Department reported that Deputies responded to I-70 mile marker 306 eastbound for a report of a rolling domestic in a passenger car. Deputies were able to locate the vehicle on I-70 at mile marker 318. 

After an investigation Nina Kravtsova of Centerton, Arkansas was arrested on requested charges of Domestic Battery, Aggravated Assault (Domestic), Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, and Interference with LEO. Kravtsova was later arrested on a requested charge of Battery on a Corrections Officer.

Authorities make arrest on I-70

<a></a><a>A new addition has been built at the Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo arena in Abilene, Kansas.</a>

Elevated seating, called the Lumber House Loft, has been constructed above the roping chutes at the north end of the arena.

Standing twelve feet high, the structure measures 20 feet wide by 75 feet long.

They have been made into five “boxes,” or suites, each 15x16 feet, in which fifteen people can sit to watch the rodeo.

They will be sold for seating, said DeLynn Farson, committee treasurer.

Matt Engle of Lumber House, Inc., has provided the labor, equipment and materials for building the boxes.

They are fully covered, he said, and are made of steel with metal end walls and roof.

Partition walls made of six-foot cedar pickets allow the air to flow between the boxes but give some privacy.

The face of the boxes has a three-foot cedar picket fence overlooking the arena.

They’re the best place to sit in the grandstand, Engle thinks.

“It’s the best view in the entire house,” he said. “It’s the only spot in the entire stadium that will be one hundred percent shaded all day long, with good air flow.”

He also noted that fans in the boxes can look down and see what’s happening with the ropers, steer wrestlers and barrel racers.

“You’re right over the top,” Engle said. “You get to see the barrel racers fly underneath you, and you get to see people’s faces as they come back. I think it’s going to be a neat experience, and a comfortable one, too.”

Engle, owner of the Lumber House True Value, has been a loyal rodeo sponsor since the early 2000s.

He was a PRCA bareback rider and bull rider for several years in the late 1990s and loved the sport.

Now he gives back to the sport he enjoyed so much.

“I love rodeo, and I love everything about it,” he said. “I wanted to be able to invest in something in my community that would have a lasting impression.

“We all give in different ways, and this was something I wanted to give to.”

Nick Weibert was a big part of the labor, Engle said, amongst other people.

The Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo kicks off&nbsp;July 30&nbsp;and runs&nbsp;through August 2, with nightly shows&nbsp;at 7:30 pm.

The rodeo is held in conjunction with the Central Kansas Free Fair.

Choose different varieties to prevent common problem, says K-State expert

K-State horticulture expert Cynthia Domenghini says the common problem of tomatoes cracking can be solved by scheduling watering or choosing different varieties.

Home gardeners face the problem of tomato cracking, or hard cracks on the upper part of the fruit, usually spanning from or around the stem.

While the cracks do not necessarily ruin the tomato, they are unsightly, said Kansas State University horticulture expert Cynthia Domenghini.

“Tomatoes have a root system that is very dense and fibrous, and is quite efficient in picking up water,” she said. “Unfortunately, the root system can become unbalanced with the top of the plant.”

Domenghini said cracking early in the season is likely related to the top growth of the tomato, which can then result in blossom-end rot when the weather turns hot and dry. Later in the season, cracking may be caused by a sudden abundance of water after a long dry spell.

How can cracking be prevented? Domenghini suggests consistent watering and mulching. Scheduled watering will prevent a quick influx of water likely to cause cracking. Additionally, mulching will help moderate moisture levels in the soil.

Some gardeners may be already following these recommendations and doing everything right, and still end up with tomato cracking. Faculty in K-State’s Department of Horticulture evaluated different tomato varieties over several years to try and come up with the most crack-resistant tomato.

“The difference seems to be the pliability of the skin rather than thickness; the more pliable the skin, the more resistance to cracking,” Domenghini said. “The old variety Jet Star has been the most crack-resistant of any we have tested, including the newer types.”

Unfortunately, Domenghini noted, Jet Star is a variety that can put out rampant, uncontrolled growth. Of the newer, more attractive varieties, Domenghini said the Mountain Spring, Mountain Pride, Mountain Fresh, Floralina, and Sun Leaper varieties had good resistance to cracking.

KSRE answers the question — is tomato cracking  preventable?

Clinic closures in the wake of the Dobbs decision and questions about the legality of emergency contraceptives, including disinformation that some are abortion drugs, may have contributed to a sharp drop in the rate of prescriptions for contraceptives in states with the most restrictive abortion bans, according to a&nbsp;<a href="https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2820370?utm_source=For_The_Media&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=ftm_links&amp;utm_term=062624" target="_blank">University of California Los Angeles study</a>.

The decline was significant in most states with restrictive bans following Dobbs in June 2022 that returned regulation of abortion procedures to the states, the study found. The group of researchers, led by pharmacy professor Dima Qato, used data from national prescription audit databases to estimate the monthly volume of prescriptions dispensed at pharmacies nationwide and state-by-state. It represents estimates from more than 93% of retail pharmacies.

“Given that abortion would be restricted in many states even more after Dobbs, I wondered whether now more people would get covered through contraception to prevent pregnancy and the need for an abortion,” Qato said.

Over the past six months, especially in states with near-total abortion bans, lawmakers have&nbsp;<a href="https://www.newsfromthestates.com/article/right-birth-control-bill-stalls-louisiana-legislature-over-anti-abortion-concerns" target="_blank">discussed proposals</a>&nbsp;that would protect access to contraception, but those efforts have largely failed because of concern over whether that would include emergency contraception. Some anti-abortion organizations call Plan B, which is an emergency contraceptive designed to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex, an abortion drug because it can prevent the implantation of a fertilized egg.

The researchers think those conversations have led to confusion among residents who aren’t sure if emergency contraceptives are still legal in their state. That confusion could also extend to pharmacists. While Plan B is available over the counter at many retail stores and pharmacies, including Amazon, it can also be obtained by prescription, which is the only data point the study captured. According to the research, the rate of obtaining it through prescription between 2021 and 2023 dropped more than 70% in four states with near-total bans — Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana and Tennessee. It declined by about 60% in Missouri.

The increases peaked in July 2022 and then dropped to levels lower than the pre-Dobbs period, Qato said.

“For patients that are seeking emergency contraception but can’t get it prescribed or filled, that’s where it matters,” Qato said. “They want to take it, they know it’s an option, and now they’re faced with hesitant prescribers and pharmacies.”

Half of women surveyed in ban states are unsure if Plan B is legal

A&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kff.org/womens-health-policy/poll-finding/kff-health-tracking-poll-early-2023/" target="_blank">Kaiser Family Foundation poll</a>&nbsp;released in early 2023 found that more than 30% of adults surveyed were unsure if Plan B was legal in all 50 states and over the counter — and half of women living in states with abortion bans were under the impression that emergency contraceptives were illegal or were unsure if they were legal.

Conversely, in two states with near-total bans, Idaho and South Dakota, the rate of prescriptions for emergency contraceptives increased by 148% and 182%, respectively. Those numbers were attributed to increases in ulipristal, which is also known as Ella, rather than levonorgestrel, known as Plan B. Ella can be effective at preventing pregnancy up to five days after unprotected sex, while Plan B is most effective within three days and is also less effective in people who weigh more than 165 pounds, while Ella does not have that limitation.

Between the 12 states with the most restrictive bans, the combined decline of emergency contraceptive prescriptions was 60%, and the decline for oral contraceptives was 24%.

Qato said she expected to see lower rates of emergency contraceptive use in the most restrictive states, particularly with the conversations likening them to abortion drugs, but she wasn’t expecting to also see a drop in monthly oral contraceptive prescriptions. Among states with the most restrictive bans, the largest decrease of 28% was in Texas, while most other states had decreases of about 20%, including Kentucky, Louisiana, Alabama and Tennessee.

Qato also theorized that the closure of abortion clinics in those states with bans contributed to the decreases, since most clinics that provided abortions prior to Dobbs also offered prescriptions for oral and emergency contraceptives, IUDs and other family planning services such as screenings for sexually transmitted diseases. The study found no change in the use of IUDs and other forms of contraception such as the patch or vaginal ring.

Over-the-counter options only help certain people

In her research, Qato noted that two years after Iowa imposed Medicaid coverage restrictions on family planning clinics that provided abortions, the use of contraceptives declined by two-thirds.

The number of abortions have also increased during that time, and more than 80% still take place at brick-and-mortar clinics rather than via telehealth or by mail.

While Plan B and Opill — an oral contraceptive — are available over the counter, Qato said those options are still untenable for some people who need contraceptives the most, including low-income women and women of color.

“Opill is convenient for those who don’t want to go to the doctor and have that discretionary income to purchase it, but low-income women relied on clinics that are now closed. They relied on prescriptions that they now don’t have,” Qato said. “Those options are accessible, but not affordable to women who could really benefit from it.”

While Qato said there should be a focus on restoring and protecting access to abortion, there should also be efforts to protect contraception in the most restrictive states. She is alarmed to see initial increases after Dobbs and then such steep declines.

“It suggests that we may observe increases in live births from unintended pregnancies in women who were forced to have a child that wasn’t planned because the state didn’t protect or introduced fear of criminalization or liability for patients, doctors, or pharmacists,” she said. “A woman may not feel safe choosing emergency contraception in those states anymore.”

 </figure>BY:&nbsp;<a href="https://kansasreflector.com/author/kelciemoseley-morris/">KELCIE MOSELEY-MORRIS</a> <a href="https://kansasreflector.com/">Kansas Refelctor</a>Clinic closures in the wake of the Dobbs decision and questions about the legality of emergency contraceptives, including disinformation that some are abortion drugs, may have contributed to a sharp drop in the rate of prescriptions for contraceptives in states with the most restrictive abortion bans, according to a&nbsp;<a href="https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2820370?utm_source=For_The_Media&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=ftm_links&amp;utm_term=062624" target="_blank">University of California Los Angeles study</a>.The decline was significant in most states with restrictive bans following Dobbs in June 2022 that returned regulation of abortion procedures to the states, the study found. The group of researchers, led by pharmacy professor Dima Qato, used data from national prescription audit databases to estimate the monthly volume of prescriptions dispensed at pharmacies nationwide and state-by-state. It represents estimates from more than 93% of retail pharmacies.“Given that abortion would be restricted in many states even more after Dobbs, I wondered whether now more people would get covered through contraception to prevent pregnancy and the need for an abortion,” Qato said.Over the past six months, especially in states with near-total abortion bans, lawmakers have&nbsp;<a href="https://www.newsfromthestates.com/article/right-birth-control-bill-stalls-louisiana-legislature-over-anti-abortion-concerns" target="_blank">discussed proposals</a>&nbsp;that would protect access to contraception, but those efforts have largely failed because of concern over whether that would include emergency contraception. That confusion could also extend to pharmacists. While Plan B is available over the counter at many retail stores and pharmacies, including Amazon, it can also be obtained by prescription, which is the only data point the study captured. According to the research, the rate of obtaining it through prescription between 2021 and 2023 dropped more than 70% in four states with near-total bans — Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana and Tennessee. It declined by about 60% in Missouri.The increases peaked in July 2022 and then dropped to levels lower than the pre-Dobbs period, Qato said.“For patients that are seeking emergency contraception but can’t get it prescribed or filled, that’s where it matters,” Qato said. “They want to take it, they know it’s an option, and now they’re faced with hesitant prescribers and pharmacies.”<h2>Half of women surveyed in ban states are unsure if Plan B is legal</h2>A&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kff.org/womens-health-policy/poll-finding/kff-health-tracking-poll-early-2023/" target="_blank">Kaiser Family Foundation poll</a>&nbsp;released in early 2023 found that more than 30% of adults surveyed were unsure if Plan B was legal in all 50 states and over the counter — and half of women living in states with abortion bans were under the impression that emergency contraceptives were illegal or were unsure if they were legal.Conversely, in two states with near-total bans, Idaho and South Dakota, the rate of prescriptions for emergency contraceptives increased by 148% and 182%, respectively. Those numbers were attributed to increases in ulipristal, which is also known as Ella, rather than levonorgestrel, known as Plan B. Ella can be effective at preventing pregnancy up to five days after unprotected sex, while Plan B is most effective within three days and is also less effective in people who weigh more than 165 pounds, while Ella does not have that limitation.Between the 12 states with the most restrictive bans, the combined decline of emergency contraceptive prescriptions was 60%, and the decline for oral contraceptives was 24%.Qato said she expected to see lower rates of emergency contraceptive use in the most restrictive states, particularly with the conversations likening them to abortion drugs, but she wasn’t expecting to also see a drop in monthly oral contraceptive prescriptions. Among states with the most restrictive bans, the largest decrease of 28% was in Texas, while most other states had decreases of about 20%, including Kentucky, Louisiana, Alabama and Tennessee.Qato also theorized that the closure of abortion clinics in those states with bans contributed to the decreases, since most clinics that provided abortions prior to Dobbs also offered prescriptions for oral and emergency contraceptives, IUDs and other family planning services such as screenings for sexually transmitted diseases. The number of abortions have also increased during that time, and more than 80% still take place at brick-and-mortar clinics rather than via telehealth or by mail.While Plan B and Opill — an oral contraceptive — are available over the counter, Qato said those options are still untenable for some people who need contraceptives the most, including low-income women and women of color.“Opill is convenient for those who don’t want to go to the doctor and have that discretionary income to purchase it, but low-income women relied on clinics that are now closed. They relied on prescriptions that they now don’t have,” Qato said. “Those options are accessible, but not affordable to women who could really benefit from it.”While Qato said there should be a focus on restoring and protecting access to abortion, there should also be efforts to protect contraception in the most restrictive states. She is alarmed to see initial increases after Dobbs and then such steep declines.“It suggests that we may observe increases in live births from unintended pregnancies in women who were forced to have a child that wasn’t planned because the state didn’t protect or introduced fear of criminalization or liability for patients, doctors, or pharmacists,” she said. “A woman may not feel safe choosing emergency contraception in those states anymore.”
