Richard H. Gfeller, a cherished member of the Junction City community, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025, at his rural residence in Geary County. Born on March 21, 1933, in Junction City, Kansas, Richard dedicated his life to his family, his farming enterprise, and the Hereford cattle he so dearly loved.

A visitation for Richard will be held on August 18, 2025, at Zion United Church of Christ in Junction City from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. followed by a funeral service at the same location at 11:00 AM with Pastor Erik Graefe officiating. His family invites all who knew Richard to join them in honoring a life well-lived and sharing in the many memories that continue to bring smiles and warmth to their hearts.

Dick married the love of his life Earlene J. Edney on August 19, 1955 in Junction City, Kansas at Zion United Church of Christ. She was his devoted partner and helped him in everyway that she could, from housework to farm work.

For nearly seven decades, Richard owned and operated Gfeller Herefords, faithfully contributing to the agricultural landscape of Junction City since 1957. His unwavering commitment earned him numerous accolades from the American Hereford Association, culminating in the prestigious 50-Year Golden Breeders Award in 2019, which celebrated over fifty years of excellence in raising Hereford cattle.

Richard was more than a farmer; he was a great storyteller, regaling friends and family with anecdotes about his life and experiences in agriculture. His infectious humor and warm personality made him a beloved figure among those who knew him. Conversations with Richard were a source of joy and positivity, leaving individuals feeling uplifted and appreciated.

As a devoted father, Richard is survived&nbsp;&nbsp;by his two sons, Kenny Gfeller and his wife Debby, and Mike Gfeller and his wife Linda, all of Junction City, Kansas. He also leaves behind his daughter, Lori Glasgow and her husband Don of Loveland, Colorado, and his sister, Janice Carlton of Junction City, Kansas. His legacy will continue through his seven grandchildren: Jamie Breeden and her husband Tyler, Josh Gfeller and his wife Courtney, Justin Gfeller, Jennifer Gfeller, Jessica Glasgow, Landon Glasgow, and Amanda Smith and her husband Tyler, as well as ten great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy.

Richard was passionate about various interests that enriched his life, including fishing, hunting, gardening, playing the guitar, target shooting, and smoking various types of meat. He was also an ardent fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, supporting his team with conviction.

He is preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Earlene Gfeller; his parents, Lawrence and Murrel Telfer Gfeller, and his beloved sister, Bonnie Carpenter; one grandson, Gregory Gfeller

Richard "Dick" H. Gfeller

Gregory Henry Platt, known as Greg, 66, passed away on August 2, 2025, at his home in Wamego, Kansas. Greg was born on May 13, 1959, in Denver, Colorado, to parents Lawrence Glenn and Bonnie Dora (Gottlieb) Platt.

Greg began his illustrious military career in the enlisted Army National Guard of Kansas in 1976 at the young age of 16, with the consent of his parents. Over the years, his devoted service took him overseas to Germany, as well as to deployed locations in Afghanistan and Bosnia. He became a respected leader, spending time training and serving at various military forts across Kansas, New York, Georgia, Kentucky, and Oklahoma. In 1991, he was commissioned as an officer after graduating from Officer Candidate School as a Distinguished Graduate. 

Among his many achievements, he was particularly proud to have earned three Bronze Star Medals and a Legion of Merit Medal. After 37 years of dedicated service, Greg honorably retired from the military in June of 2013, holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel as a Nuclear Weapons Specialist and Instructor. Outside of his military accomplishments, Greg was a passionate gun collector and enthusiast, which contributed to his ability to earn the Army Sharpshooter Badge. He cherished the camaraderie and memories created with his “Man Camp” group of friends, where they enjoyed camping and shooting together. 

Greg’s compassion extended beyond his military service, as he dedicated time to support others through his involvement with the Big Brother and Big Sister organization, American Legion, and Wounded Warrior Project. Greg is survived by his spouse, Brett Stewart-Platt, and children Autumn Platt-Cangelosi (Brandon) of Littleton, Colorado; Hendley Brook Carson (John) of Manhattan, Kansas; Michael Ames Howard II of Manhattan, Kansas; and Piper Howard Deans (Jay) of Olathe, Kansas. Greg was a proud grandfather to Maddox Stockebrand, Rowan Stockebrand, Lawson Deans, Harlan Deans, Halsey Deans, Henley Deans, Sophie Cangelosi, Aliey Cangelosi, and Izzy Cangelosi. Also mourning Greg’s loss are numerous nieces and nephews, and his faithful four-legged service dog, Valkyrie. 

Greg is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Geoffrey Platt, as well as his cherished service dog, LuLu. A memorial service will be held on August 22, 2025, at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego, Kansas, at 10:00 a.m. In honor of Greg’s military service, please wear the colors red, white, and blue. Diane Gayle Gibson, known as Di to just about everyone who knew her, unfortunately passed away on August 5th, 2025, aged 79. She was born on June 16, 1946 in Lenora, Kansas to parents Don and Phyllis Wells. Di grew up on a farm in Graham County and in

1964, she married husband Gary Gibson. Aside from being a loving and resilient mother and Army wife, she worked as an administrative assistant for Schwans Food Service for many

years, where she earned high accolades, including Employee of the Year. At home and in her free time, she turned her love and passion for gardening into an art, achieving certification as a Kansas Master Gardener.

Di is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Gary; her two children, Terry Gibson and Belinda Ward (Gibson), and their partners, Petia and Randy, respectively; grandchildren

Kayla, Steve, and Kalina; great-grandchildren Anton, Alice, Westley, Raven, Piper, and Kora (who is expected to arrive in December). Di was preceded in passing by her parents, Don

Sharon Kaye (Lady) Evers was born September 7, 1944 in Abilene, Kansas the daughter of Gerald and Auline (Milham) Lady. She passed away Sunday, July 27, 2025 at Village Manor in Abilene.

Sharon grew up in the Abilene area, graduated from Abilene High School, and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Kansas State University. Sharon worked in banking her entire adult life and was Vice President of the Trust Department at US Bank in St. Joseph, Missouri until her retirement.

She was an avid sports fan, enjoyed cheering on the Kansas State Wildcats, and attended many football and basketball games throughout her life. She bled purple. She also enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals whenever she could. She enjoyed traveling, and they went to every bowl game between 1982 and 2023. After retirement, Sharon enjoyed traveling to Estes Park where they spent the summer and enjoyed many campouts with the Good Sam’s RV Club. Most of all, Sharon enjoyed being with family.

Sharon spent many years volunteering on various boards. She was on the Kansas State University Foundation Board and the Kansas State University Alumni board for many years. She also was on the board of the United Way and Heartland Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri. After living over 40 years in St. Joseph, Missouri, they moved back to Abilene four years ago.

On June 11, 1966 she was united in marriage to Richard Evers. He survives of the home. Other survivors include her brother Larry Lady (Carol) of Overland Park, Kansas, sister Donna Morgenson (Steve) of Ashland, Nebraska, and Debbie Davis of Abilene, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Auline Lady. She had numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Sharon will be Friday, August 15, 2025 at Emmanuel Church in Abilene with pastors Raymond Moore and Marc Riegel officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service at 10:00 am, service at 11:00 am, and burial to follow. Her final resting place will be in the Mount St. Joseph Cemetery in Abilene. Robert Fredrick (Bob) Daily, 93, was born July 6, 1932, near Logan, Oklahoma to Archie and Nellie Anderson Daily, during the height of the Dust Bowl years. He went to be with the Lord on July 23, 2025, in Abilene, Kansas, surrounded by his family. The loss of our family patriarch has been a profound experience. He was our pillar of strength, wisdom, and unconditional love. We write this to honor his memory.

Bob spent his childhood in the panhandle of Texas, the oldest of five siblings. The Daily family worked hard during the Dust Bowl years. Bob’s entertainment was watching the steam engine trains pass by, leading to a lifelong passion with trains. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, earning a Purple Heart. Bob graduated from Kansas State University in 1957 and spent his career as a teacher and football coach. He impacted the lives of countless students, many who considered him a mentor and kept in touch throughout his life. He married Ruth Pierce in Kansas in 1953 and they had two children, James Bennett (Ben) and Marcia Colleen. He later married Carmen Raval Breeler in California in 1967 and from this union came four daughters- Barbara Sue, Brenda Lynn, Cynthia Lee, and Teresa Ann. His children and their families were his number one priority and he attended every special event in their lives.

Bob spent his retirement years traveling the country to visit his beloved family, earning him the nickname “Okie Rover”. Many remember the camera permanently hanging from his neck, capturing memories to share with his many friends and family on Facebook. Bob was a sports enthusiast, realizing its unique power to teach positive values. The California Angels and Kansas City Royals were his baseball teams and many a Father’s Day was spent at a Royals game. His final years were spent on his son Ben’s farm in Kansas, with frequent visits from his daughters and many relatives. Bob, Ben, and Francis were lovingly known as “The Three Daily Bachelors,” living the dream on the family farm.

Bob was preceded in death by his daughters Barbara Daily Evans, Brenda Daily Wentling, and Teresa Daily Allen. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter Tawnee Bubak, great-grandson Creeden Bubak; sister, Beverly Dutcher, and brothers Darvin Jack Dailey and William (Bill) Dailey. Bob is survived by his sister Darlene Folks; sister-in-law Donna Dailey; his children Ben Daily, Solomon, Kansas; Marcia (Frank) Bubak, Olathe, Kansas, Cynthia (Michael) Alexander, Ludowici, Georgia; 15 grandchildren: Angela, Samantha, Alexandra, Sarah, Trevor, Mary, Austin, Derrick, Megan, Margaret, Francis, Katherine, Jacqueline, Maelyn, Macyn; 11 great-grandchildren: Ashley, Avree, Alexis, Jaynee, Jayana, Caliber, Madelyn, Thea, Levi, Alice, Lily; 5 great-great grandchildren: Kaison, Grace, Oakley, Jaelyn, Jordyn. Jamie D'unite Cooper, born on September 7, 1990, in El Dorado, Arkansas, passed away on August 10, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas. He left behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a vibrant spirit that touched the lives of many around him.

Throughout his life, Jamie was a passionate athlete, proudly participating in every sport imaginable—from flag football to baseball and track and field. He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Ruby Hankins of Junction City, Kansas; his sister, Antonina (Bryan) Dunevant of Houston, Texas; his brothers, Christopher (Rubenyon) Golden of Junction City, Kansas, and Ken (Shunta) Carey of Magnolia, Arkansas; and his sister, Shauntae Allen of Homer, Louisiana. Born in Henderson, TX, Stephanie spent her early childhood in Texas and Houma, LA, before moving with her family to Pretty Prairie, KS. Stephanie was the first member of her family to attend college, graduating in 1955 from Kansas State University where she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. After graduation, she taught kindergarten in San Diego, CA, before marrying Dan and moving to Manhattan. Stephanie cherished her large and extended family in Texas, delighting in annual family reunions full of music and laughter. She and Dan enjoyed traveling, their large circle of friends, K-State athletics, boating at Tuttle Creek every summer, spending time picnicking in the country, and playing tennis. Stephanie was an avid reader and movie aficionado. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the local PEO chapter. Most of all, Stephanie was extremely proud of her three children and four grandchildren. Her greatest joy was sharing in their lives and celebrating them and their accomplishments.

Ruth Ann Roberts, 63, Manhattan, was born to Robert and LaQuita Roberts on July 29, 1962, at the Morris County Hospital in Council Grove, KS. She had four siblings: Kay, Raye, Bobby, and Chuck.

She embraced her Lord Jesus in her new heavenly home on August 9, 2025, at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan after a short battle with an aggressive lung cancer.

Ruth Ann attended White City schools and graduated from high school there in 1980. After graduating, she worked at Neosho Construction Company, Charlene's, and the Council Grove Republican, before attending Manhattan Vocational-Technical School where she learned medical transcription. She worked numerous places in Manhattan, including Peterson Lab, Lafene Student Health on the KSU campus for 22 years, and six years for Konza Dental.

While attending vo-tech school, she met Michael Bundy, whom she married on May 22, 1987. They recently celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary. She was the proud mother of two daughters: Jacqueline Jacie and Kirsten Micah. Her family was her pride and joy. She shared her daughters happiness when they married their husbands, Matt and Colt.

She was a member of the Parkerville Baptist Church and later of the Life Connection Baptist Church of Ogden.

She was preceded in death by her parents: LaQuita and Bob; her brother, Bobby; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, JJ and Alice Bundy, and her brother-in-law, Wayne; her grandparents, Fred and Ruth Roberts and Alfred and Anna Holm; and many special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Avery S. Broccolo, age 38, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in Manhattan, Kansas. He was born on January 13, 1987, to parents Stephen and Michelle (Sutton) Broccolo in Manhattan, Kansas.

Avery graduated from Manhattan High School December 2004 and received his ASE Certification from WyoTech June 2006.

He married Amanda (Thorburn) on June 03, 2011.

He worked several years at Kansas State University in various departments across campus and recently went to work for Network Computer Solutions.

He enjoyed building computers, working on cars, and riding his motorcycles and mopeds. He loved his animals as well as spending time with his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his wife, Amanda, Manhattan, KS; parents, Stephen and Michelle, Manhattan, KS; and other family members. He will be missed by many.

Virginia Morris, age 76, of Manhattan, passed away Wednesday August 6, 2025, at the Stoneybrook Retirement Community in Manhattan.

She was born on July 28, 1949, in Manhattan, the daughter of Virgil H. and Winifred Alice (Hahn) Adams. Virigina grew up in Manhattan, attending local grade schools and graduated from Manhattan High School with the class of 1967. She then attended Kansas State and later Manhattan Technical College.

On November 17, 1973, in Manhattan, she was united in marriage to James Morris Sr. He preceded her in death October 11, 2014.

Virginia worked for many years as a licensed nurse (LPN) for local nursing homes and at the Irwin Army Hospital at Fort Riley. She was a hardworking and caring person. Viriginia was a caring person. Her family knew how much she loved them, and she made sure to be there for them as often as she could and help in any way.

When she was younger, she enjoyed trips with her family. For many years she would be with her kids and family at the lake enjoying the peaceful time out in nature. She was a member of the Shawnee County Allied Tribes in Kansas. She was proud of her Native American heritage and always was ready to be part of the pow-wow celebrations.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Manhattan.

Virginia is survived by her sons, James Morris Jr (Angie) and Adam Morris; also, her grandchildren Allison Mason and Britanny Mason, and her many other family and friends who will miss her.

Lorene Julaine Stuteville, age 93, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away on August 5, 2025, at the Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan.

Lorene was born on a family farm near Parsons, Kansas, to John Herrman Dringenberg and Iva May (Snyder) Dringenberg. She was an identical twin to her beloved sister, Glorene E. Cannon, with whom she shared a lifelong bond.

Lorene graduated from Parsons Senior High School and then earned an associate’s degree from Labette Community College. She married Donald L. Stuteville on September 7, 1952, in Parsons, Kansas. They were married for 68 years and built a life together filled with love, dedication, and family.

A kind and gentle soul, Lorene devoted her life to caring for others as a homemaker. Her warmth, compassion, and steady presence brought comfort to all who knew her.

Lorene was a longtime member of First Christian Church of Manhattan, Kansas. She was very active in church life, including the Disciples Women’s Fellowship Larsons Group, where she served as Chair for several years. She was also a member of the Women’s Disciples Cabinet at the church. Beyond her church involvement, Lorene was an active member of the TOPS group for several decades, as well as the Manhattan Welcome Club.

She is survived by her daughter Susan Carlson (Mike) of Broomfield, Colorado; her sons Donald Brian Stuteville (Kelly) of Parker, Colorado, and Robert Vincent Stuteville (Becky) of Parkville, Missouri; and her grandchildren Jessica Carlson, Eric Carlson, Erin Stuteville, Alec Stuteville, and Chomphunut Stuteville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don Stuteville, her twin sister Glorene Cannon, and her brother Verland Dringenberg.

Christine Marie Walsh, 60, of St. George, Kansas, passed away on August 6, 2025.

Born on December 23, 1964, to Richard L. Belin and Jeanette M. Holladay, in Manhattan, KS. Our mother will be remembered for her fierce devotion to her family, her compassion for animals, and her undeniable loyalty to the Kansas City Chiefs. Whether she was sporting red and gold on game day or spoiling all the pets she adored, Mom was a true believer and dedicated herself wholeheartedly to everything she loved.

Our mother was a devoted parent, a proud grandmother, a beloved sister, and a cherished friend whose smile, laugh, and humor lit up every room. Her compassion ran deep, and her quick wit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Throughout her life, Mom poured herself into raising her family and nurturing an unbreakable bond with her sisters, offering unconditional love and unwavering loyalty. She found joy in everyday moments, treasured traditions, and the company of those she held close.

Christine is survived by her children: Rhonda M. Zarger (Nick) of St. George, Eric E. Walsh of St. George, and Christopher R. Walsh (Kolbie) of Wamego; her sister Michelle L. Christine Marie Walsh, 60, of St. George, Kansas, passed away on August 6, 2025.Born on December 23, 1964, to Richard L. Belin and Jeanette M. Holladay, in Manhattan, KS. Our mother will be remembered for her fierce devotion to her family, her compassion for animals, and her undeniable loyalty to the Kansas City Chiefs. Whether she was sporting red and gold on game day or spoiling all the pets she adored, Mom was a true believer and dedicated herself wholeheartedly to everything she loved.Our mother was a devoted parent, a proud grandmother, a beloved sister, and a cherished friend whose smile, laugh, and humor lit up every room. Her compassion ran deep, and her quick wit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Throughout her life, Mom poured herself into raising her family and nurturing an unbreakable bond with her sisters, offering unconditional love and unwavering loyalty. She found joy in everyday moments, treasured traditions, and the company of those she held close.Christine is survived by her children: Rhonda M. Zarger (Nick) of St. George, Eric E. Christine Marie Walsh

Carol Elaine Threewit, age 86, passed away on August 3, 2025, in Westmoreland, Kansas.

Carol was born on July 6, 1939, in Onaga, Kansas, the daughter of Carl and Esther (Johnson) Holmgren.

She married her husband, Gary Threewit, on June 8, 1958, at the United Methodist Church in Westmoreland, Kansas. They shared many cherished years until Gary's passing on October 2, 2019

Carol graduated from Westmoreland High School in the class of 1957. During her school years, she worked as a switchboard operator. From 1956 to 1958, she worked at Kansas State University (KSU), and from 1960 to 1964, she worked for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) office. From 1970 until 1989, she was a dedicated postal carrier, working in both Westmoreland and Wamego. In 2004, she retired from the Pottawatomie County appraiser's office.

Carol enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests. She was passionate about music, playing the organ and piano, and took great joy in teaching many young people how to play. She shared her love by cooking for her family and enjoyed spending time visiting with her family and friends. Carol was also an avid reader and enjoyed photography.

Carol is survived by her sons, David (Denise) Threewit and Mike Threewit; her brother, Loren (Patricia) Holmgren; her sister-in-law, Julia (Morris) Engle; her grandchildren, Elaina, Johnathan, and Michaela; her great-grandchildren, Myannah, Malik, Zoey, Lucas, and Avery; her great-great-grandchildren, Mariannah.

Russann L. “Ann” Abitz, 79, of Westmoreland, Kansas, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the Onaga Health and Rehab Center. She is a long-time resident of the community.

Ann was born September 19, 1945, in San Diego, California, the daughter of Charles B. and Myrtle (Bauman) Albert. She attended local grade school and in 1963 graduated from Herbert Hoover High School in San Diego. She then attended a local community college where she studied business.

Ann worked for thirty-five years as a Customer Service Representative, first for Southwestern Bell in California and in Manhattan, Kansas, then, for AT&amp;T in Topeka. Ann was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church where she was confirmed on April 6, 1969. She was a long time Sunday school teacher and member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was also a member of the Sunflower Club and enjoyed quilting at the church. In her earlier years, Ann competed in the Sunday night mixed bowling league.

Ann married Eugene Abitz on June 8, 1969, in Wheaton. Ann and Gene shared their lives together, raising their family. They loved to travel and enjoyed going to Alaska and different bowling tournaments throughout the nation. Gene survives at their home.

Ann is also survived by her children; Rachel Hougland (Daniel), Wamego, Rhonda Abitz (Michael Preston), Manhattan, and Christian Abitz (Jennifer Stillwell), Topeka; her ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, her brother, Charles Albert, Westmoreland and sister, Julia Grincewich, Henderson, Nevada. Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, David Albert and Arnold “Bruce” Albert.

Mary Marshall was born on June 4, 1957, to William and Mary Hall in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. She was baptized on June 4, 1957, and confirmed in her faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Clarks Creek Road in Junction City, Kansas, by Rev. Myers on February 5, 2017. 

Mary married Josef Marshall on March 31, 1980.

She is survived by her spouse, Josef Marshall, and her daughters, Jessica Crespo (married to Mark Crespo) and Jasmine Nixon. Grandchildren; Justice Greule, Matt Powell, Ashely &amp; Matt Atkins, Arianna Crespo, Xavier Crespo, Jewell Nixon IV, Jalyssa Nixon, Javontai Nixon, Jordan Nixon, Joshua Marshall Jr., Octavia &amp; Clayton Box, Devon Marshall, Jade Marshall, Cadyn Allen, and Lily Allen. Great-Grandchildren: Ezra Atkins, Rosalie Perez, Lilliana Perez, Winnie Donlon-Nixon, Easton Box, and Madelyn Box.

Mary is also survived by her sister Pamela Hulen (married to Robert Hulen), sister-in-law Cindy Hall, and brothers William Hall (married to Kim Hall) and Wesley Hall (married to Anne Hall). She was preceded in death by her son Joshua Marshall, her parents William and Mary Hall, and her brother Thomas Hall.

Her extended family includes Jewell Nixon III, Charlie Nixon, Brithany Nixon &amp; son, Jasmine Nixon &amp; family, Dyan &amp; Cato Allen, and Jenny Campbell. 

Mary was the owner of Mary’s Pet Grooming for around 15 years and co-owner of M &amp; L Services. Mary had a full life, was loved, and loved her animals too.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 9719 Clarks Creek Road, Junction City, KS 66441.

Ross E. Spohn, age 81, died peacefully on August 7, 2025, surrounded by family, at Wellsprings of Westmoreland, KS.

He was born on July 2, 1944, in Little River, KS, the son of Helen (Anderson) and Leo Spohn.

He graduated from Marquette High School in the class of 1961. After high school, Ross worked as a cattleman and a truck driver, retiring in 2011.

Ross married Effie Spoon on February 14, 1963, in Marquette, KS. Together, they were married 62 years; she survives of the home. They shared their lives raising three daughters, Martha, Ruth, Julie, and one son, Ross Allen.

He loved riding and breaking horses. He also liked spending time watching TV in his favorite chair, which he fondly called “his office”. Ross was a member of AA for 29 years, where he devoted his time helping others to live a good and sober life.

He is survived by his wife, Effie Spohn; children Martha (Jim) Mooneyham, Ruth (Ron) Ebert, Julie (Jim) Elder, and Ross Allen (Janel) Spohn; brother, Cary (Pauline) Spohn; Raymond (Leslie) Spohn, Doyle (Pat) Spohn; 11 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Helen Spohn, and his brother Lawrence Spohn.

Geri was born November 14, 1941 in Highland, Kansas to Gerald and Maxine Gormley. The family moved to a farm in rural Reserve, Kansas where she attended school. After high school she lived in Hiawatha, Kansas where she met the love of her life, John Majerus. They married March 3rd, 1962 and moved to Atchison, Kansas. Later moving to Junction City, Kansas and eventually, Overland Park.

Geri was multifaceted when it came to her career. She worked several jobs before she and her husband became franchisees of KFC and Baskin-Robbins in Junction City, but being a realtor was her favorite. She retired to be a grandmother.

Geri will be missed by her husband, John, of 63 years, her four daughters Lisa (Billy) Thomas, Michelle (Keith) Burkhart, Buffy (Tom) Orr, and Megan (Nate) Parks. Also surviving are her 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren who are the brightest light of her life. She is also survived by her brother Joe (Shirley), sister Linda (James), and her youngest sister Cheryl (Denny), and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Evan Quinton.

Michael Peter Yearout of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away on July 27, 2025, due to old age. He was 92 years old and at his passing he fully intended to stick around but his body was tired and worn out. Mike resided in the home of his son and daughter-in-law, having 4 generations attending church and eating together at the table.

Born on February 11, 1933, in Yakima, Washington, the 4 th of 6 children to his parents Peter Harold Yearout and Maxine Trego McCachren. When he was 3 years old Dad lost his birthmother Maxine due to childbirth and complications caused by Pneumonia, Penicillin wasn’t invented yet. His father married Erna Opal Cromer who has the distinction of being his rearing mother, raising him and his 2 older brothers. He lived in the Columbia Basin and the Pacific Northwest most of his life as his father and family moved about the many construction projects of that era. Dad loved the old radio programs and recalled how the family all helped to clean up after dinner so everyone could sit and listen to the next episode.

His youth was filled with outdoor adventures, hunting, fishing, and exploring the rustic rural areas where the construction company housed employees. He shared stories of riding his bike with friends, swimming and fishing, traveling a distance of over 20 miles one-way for fun. When he graduated high school, he held the distinction of basketball king in the days before the 3-point rule launching the ball near the half court line. When I was young, Dad would take the family on Sunday rides to show what was left of the small towns of his youth and explain how everything we took for granted developed from when his father and older brother worked on the Grand Coulee Dam and Bureau of Reclamation projects that brought power and irrigation to the Columbia Basin desert.

Mike enlisted into the U.S. Army 17 April 1953 as a refrigeration technician. He arrived in the Korean War Zone and was assigned to the signal corps. No jobs for refrigeration tech he convinced the property book holder that he needed someone on the inside of the storage facility guarding thereby creating a job and securing private quarters away from the barracks. He spent 1 year and 5 months on the Korean Peninsula. Upon honorable release from active-duty Mike rejoined his parents.

His father started a construction company during the years his son was away. Mike quickly joined the rest of the family laying irrigation canals. During this period of time Mike was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was baptized and was a devoted serving member for the rest of his life. Mike retired in 1999 from church employment as a building maintenance technician. He traveled a 100-mile radius managing the maintenance of 5 stakes.

Mike was able to do most anything like most every man of his generation. He began in his youth working as a grocery store clerk, then to construction, military service, Titan II missile program assembly inspector, Heavy equipment/automotive shop maintenance, service station, the sale and service of campers, boats, motors and trailers.

He was married to Noreta Colleen Hansen in 1958; they brought 4 sons into the world. In 1979 they divorced. In 1980 Mike married Lola Mae Darley. With her came another son and 4 daughters who quickly took to him. On 20 October 2021 his beloved passed away.

Dad was always a calm loving person whose patients enabled him to teach. Those who worked for him or who he worked with through the course of his life have nothing but praise for him. Dad and Lola Mom lived in Springfield Oregon area nearly 42 years. After his wife passed away Mike came to live in the Manhattan Kansas area for his remaining years. As I informed his friends in Oregon of his passing, the common thread uttered was, I loved that man. His gentle soul will be missed.

Mike is survived by his sons Paul Yearout anchorage AK, Steve Yearout (Dorothy) Moses Lake WA, Craig Yearout (Heidi) Manhattan KS. From his second marriage Ron Sparks (Terri), Sharon Sparks McConkie Chamberlain (Rodger), Debbie Sparks Curtis, Cindy Sparks Schmidt (Wade), Tina Sparks Schneider (George). Various nieces and nephews and several grandchildren and great grandchildren, special mention granddaughter Stephnie Curtis Canterbury who was beside her grandpa until the end.

After his wife passed away Mike came to live in the Manhattan Kansas area for his remaining years. As I informed his friends in Oregon of his passing, the common thread uttered was, I loved that man. Joshua Curtis Van Petten, age 34, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2025, in Gardner, Kansas. He was born on August 21, 1990, to his parents, Robert Austin and Wendy J. Herrera, in Manhattan, Kansas.

Josh was a 2008 graduate of Manhattan High. After high school, Josh worked alongside his mother as a para, helping kids with autism. His devotion to helping people then led him to become a caregiver for adults in the special needs community.

Josh is survived by his mother, Wendy, of Manhattan; sister, Faith Herrera; brother, Eli Herrera; nieces, Aubrianna Barnes, Isabella Baker, Aurora Gibby-Herrera; and a nephew, Tyler Barnes, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert, and a sister, Natasha Baker.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 P.M., Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the Blue Hills Room in Manhattan.

Her warmth and humor will be profoundly missed, as will her passion for music, especially the tunes of Elvis Presley and the classic sounds of the 50s and 60s. Another of her joys included watching cardinals, which she particularly loved.

Her activism extended beyond state lines, as she lobbied with the Kansas Legislature and even made a memorable trip to Washington D.C., where she had the honor of meeting Muhammad Ali's wife, Lonnie.
