Betty Ann (Rolfs) Waters, 98, passed away peacefully on the evening of October 20, 2025.

Betty was a lifelong resident of Junction City and an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Betty had a keen mind and a gracious heart, loved singing in the Presbyterian Church Choir, being active in PEO and Ladies Reading Club, and doting on her eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She led a beautiful, full life and was known for her bright smile and loving heart. Betty passed the day before what would have been her husband's birthday, so after about 17 years apart, she was reunited with Bob to celebrate with him in heaven.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Bob Waters, parents E.W. and Evelina Rolfs, and her brother E. J. Rolfs.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Eunice Rolfs (Junction City), her three children and their spouses: Jim (Bev) Waters (Salina, Kansas), Peggy (Glen) Erickson (Wichita, Kansas), Clarence (Jean) Waters (Omaha, Nebraska); eight grandchildren: Steven Waters, Scott Waters, Jennifer Waters, Christopher (Katie) Erickson, Alexandra (Dusty) Kossen, Sean Erickson, Lela (Tim) Wilson, Paul Waters; seven great-grandchildren – all who will forever cherish her memory.

Visitation will be Friday, November 7th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Johnson &amp; Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home in Junction City. Funeral service will be Saturday, November 8th at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Junction City.

Memorials can be made to the Presbyterian Church Choir, Junction City, Kansas.

Rita "Oma" Hilda Jenkins, a loving mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on October 24, 2025, in Junction City, Kansas, at the age of 91. Born in Stangenroth, Germany, on March 24, 1934, she was a beacon of love and compassion whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.

Rita married her husband, Walter, on June 19, 1957, in Wildflecken, Germany. This bond lasted until his passing on May 22, 2018. After their wedding, Rita moved from Germany to the United States with Walter in the late 1960s. This was just a small part of her incredible story, which included 17 moves during Walter's 20-year military career. Embarking on a journey that symbolized her resilience and adaptability, Rita learned English through her beloved American soap operas and game shows, including The Price is Right, as she embraced a new culture.

With a heart full of generosity, Rita immersed herself in family life as a devoted housewife and stay-at-home mother. Her nurturing spirit and boundless love flowed into every corner of her home, creating a sanctuary filled with laughter, warmth, and a million fond memories. For 16 years, she dedicated herself to working as a bus assistant for special needs children, embodying her compassionate nature through service to others. She also volunteered for seven years assisting with weekly bingo at Brookdale Senior Living before making it her home, where she quickly bonded with residents and staff. Always putting others before herself, Rita was known to offer her famous fruit snacks to everyone she met.

Every holiday season flourished under Rita’s watchful eye as she filled each celebration with joy, color, and cheer. From her unforgettable craftiness to her iconic decorations displayed for every holiday imaginable, her home was a true canvas of festivity. Rita’s personality was as radiant as her home decorations. Oktoberfest was especially near to her heart, where her heritage shone through her joyful spirit, German traditions, and unmistakable thick German accent. A welcoming smile and lively German polka music greeted every guest which perfectly reflected her love for bringing people together.

Her two greatest loves were her faith and her family. Rita was a lifelong, devout Catholic and an active member of Saint Francis Xavier Parish and Circle 1. She attended daily Mass and prayed the rosary every evening. She dedicated her time and talents to uplift those around her, and her caring nature fostered deep connections with family and friends, leaving a lasting mark on their lives. The love and pride she had for her children and grandchildren was evident with every story that she shared.

She is survived by her children; Dr. Jimmy (Jody) Jenkins and Judy (Troy) Sanner, her treasured grandchildren; Jordan Jenkins, Cadin (Estrella) Sanner, Corbin Sanner, and Creytin Sanner, and her sister, Amanda Hartmann of Germany. Rita's legacy of love and kindness will forever resonate in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers and two sisters of Germany.

Rita's life will be honored through a series of services. A visitation will be held on October 29, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with the rosary beginning at 6:30 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on October 30, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with Fr. Peter O'Donnell officiating and Fr. Kerry Ninemire assisting. She will be laid to rest with a graveside service at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery alongside her husband at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Junction City, Kansas, and Accord Hospice, Manhattan, Kansas.

Joy Janiece (Bowman) Parks, 82, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Friday (October 17, 2025) at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.

Born April 16, 1943 in Westmoreland, Kansas, Joy was the daughter of Ora and Helen (Merryman) Bowman. Joy was baptized at age 2 and was a longtime active member of the Louisville Community Church.

A 1961 graduate of Wamego High School, Joy attended Beauty School in Manhattan, Kansas and had a 60 year career in cosmetology in Wamego.

In her younger years, Joy enjoyed playing softball. An avid Kansas State Wildcat fan, Joy was a season ticket holder for 60 years. For many years, she was a member of 4-H, raising polled Hereford cattle, doing gardening, cooking and sewing projects.

On November 2, 1962, she married James Parks and to this union was born two sons, Kerry and Kyle. Joy and James were later divorced.

Survivors include her two sons, Kerry Alan and his wife Kim of Salina, KS and Kyle Lynn of Iowa City, IA.

Joy leaves behind her beloved Blue Heeler dog, Rex and four beautiful cats.

Joy Janiece ( Bowman ) Parks

Sandra Lee "Sandy" (Banaka) Crnic, age 76, died on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in St. George, Kansas.

Sandy was born on September 20, 1949, in Holton, Kansas, the daughter of Lloyd and Betty (Barnes) Banaka.

On June 6, 1970, she was united in marriage to Gary Crnic in Sedalia, Missouri. They were married for 52 years before his passing on May 11, 2023.

Sandy's educational journey included attending grade schools in Holton and Manhattan, Kansas, Manhattan High School through a portion of her junior year, Shawnee Mission North High School in Merriam, Kansas for the remainder of her junior year, and graduation from Afton High School in St. Louis, Missouri. She furthered her education through attending Southeast Missouri State University, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and Missouri Southern State University, earning her bachelor's and master's degrees in dental hygiene.

She met her future husband, Gary Crnic, in Sedalia, Missouri while attending college. They married on June 6, 1970, in Sedalia, Missouri, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Upon completion of their degrees in 1971, they moved to El Paso, Texas, after Gary joined the military. After several years of service, they moved to Houston, Texas, and had their daughters, Tarrie and Tracy. After several other moves they ended up in Russell, KS where they opened their own dental clinic called Gary Crnic D.D.S. Family Dentistry in Russell, Kansas. Sandy worked alongside Gary as a dental hygienist and office manager of the practice. Prior to this she had practiced hygiene at several other dental practices.. Outside practicing hygiene she also imparted her knowledge by teaching dental hygiene at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri. Her commitment to her work was matched by her dedication to her family and her community. She was very self-sufficient and social. She took leadership roles when called upon. This included serving on the hospital board in Russell for several years and presiding over the RHS band booster club during Bob Dole’s presidential run in 1996. She contributed much of her free time and efforts to better her community.

Sandy's interests were diverse; she was a sports fan who enjoyed following the Royals, Chiefs, and KSU. She loved to read and was deeply involved in her community and church through her membership in the Daughters of Isabella. She also was a member of the cherished "lunch bunch" with her close friends. They met every Tuesday in Russell where they shared good conversation and celebrated special occasions together. Additionally, she was a member of the Alpha-Kia-Omega sorority while in college, connecting with friends and nurturing relationships in her life.

Sandy is survived by her daughters, Tarrie (Paul) Grosdidier, and Tracy Crnic; her sister, Janet (Gary) Nail; her brother, Greg (Robin) Banaka; her aunt, Sharon Carl; and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary King Crnic, and her parents, Lloyd and Betty Banaka.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 10:30 am at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego with Fr. Michael Peterson officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery in Wamego.

A visitation will be on Friday evening, October 24, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home. A Rosary Service will follow at 7:00 pm.

Edra Jean Northup, fondly known as "Jean," 95, passed away on October 17, 2025, at the Onaga Health and Rehab care home in Onaga, Kansas.

&nbsp; Jean was born on October 2, 1930, in Duluth, Kansas, to parents Arthur and Gertrude (Matzke) Honig. Jean married Marvin Dale Northup on November 3, 1948, in Duluth. They spent over 50 years together before his passing in 2001.

&nbsp; Jean was a devoted spouse to her husband and a loving mother to her three children. She was a talented cook, and she shared her culinary gift professionally as a cook for Kansas State University at the Derby Food Center, where she dedicated over twenty years of her life. Many cherished memories revolve around her heartwarming meals, which brought family and friends together. She instilled the same passion for cooking by teaching her daughters everything she knew.

&nbsp; Beyond her culinary skills, Jean found joy in hobbies such as quilting, sewing, embroidery, crocheting, and needlework. She meticulously tended to her house plants. Jean was actively involved in her church community as a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Wamego, Kansas, and as part of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, reflecting her dedicated faith and commitment to serving others.

&nbsp; Jean is survived by her children Dale Northup (Debra Keating), Cynthia Ebert (Richard Varnadore), and Julie (Mohamed) Albohali; grandchildren Jeremy Northup, Jennifer (Brett) Soeken, Jess (Susan) Ebert, Jacque Ebert, Tonie Volanti, and Nettie Albohali (Ryan Jack); great-grandchildren Trevor (Heather) Northup, Rylan Northup, Kinley Soeken, Kyler Soeken, Ashton Ebert, Caden Ebert, Layton Ebert, Julia Stewart, Cooper Jack, and Oliver Jack; and great-great-grandchildren, Brantley Dern and Sawyer Soeken.

&nbsp; Jean is reunited in heaven with her beloved parents, late husband Marvin, daughter-in-law Diane (Wells) Northup, son-in-law Dale Anthony Ebert, sister Dorothy Henneberg, brother-in-law Milton Henneberg, and brother Daryl Honig.

Donald W. Zumbrunn of Wakefield, age 91 years, passed away October 21,2025 at Village Manor, Abilene,Ks. He was born to Henry and Myrtle (Wallace) Zumbrunn on May 17, 1934 at the Geary County Hospital, Junction City, Ks. He grew up on the family farm north of Chapman. He was the youngest of six children. He attended local schools and graduated from DCCHS in 1952.

He spotted his future bride at the carnival in Chapman. After convincing her to take a ferris wheel ride, the rest is history. They were married December 18,1954 in the home of her parents, Harold and Laura Stacey.

From this union were born seven children. Vicki Simenson (Ken) of Abilene, Debbie Owens of Hutchinson, Annette Carstenson (Jay) of Westmoreland, Laurie Knight (Shannon) of Enterprise,

Kerri Saum (Lyle) of Enterprise. Two sons, David Zumbrunn (Deceased) and Tim Zumbrunn (Cathy) of Wakefield.&nbsp;

He was a man admired for his faith, integrity, patience, humor and devotion to his wife and family.

His love of cars and mechanics&nbsp; began with racing jalopies, restoring cars and tractors. Which led to him&nbsp; establishing his own business, Don’s Tractor Repair. He also took over the&nbsp; Stacey family farm.

He enjoyed family get togethers, softball, bowling, Royals baseball, K-State, Worlds of Fun, family vacations, Chiefs football and our Halloween parties in the pasture.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents, siblings, son David, age 18, Grandson J.D., age 11, and Granddaughter, Stephanie, age 31.

Donald W. Zumbrunn of Wakefield, age 91 years, passed away October 21,2025 at Village Manor, Abilene,Ks. He was born to Henry and Myrtle (Wallace) Zumbrunn on May 17, 1934 at the Geary County Hospital, Junction City, Ks. He grew up on the family farm north of Chapman. Larry A. Bratton 84 of Abilene passed away on Monday October 20th at Tallgrass Healthcare Campus in Junction City. Larry was born in Wichita &nbsp;Kansas on October 16, 1941, &nbsp;the son of Lloyd and Ruby Bratton.&nbsp; After high School Larry attended both Kansas State University as well as The University of Kansas.&nbsp;

On May 15 1982 Larry married Cynthia (Cindy) Uhrich in Abilene. Their Love lasted 43 years. Larry served in the United States Navy and had served during the Vietnam conflict as a medic attached to a Marine unit. After his military service Larry worked as security guard at several facilities.

Larry is survived by his wife Cindy of the home. His daughters Tammi Jo Weaver, Tina Joslin, Sons Samuel Bratton and Joe Bratton (Brandee) and his sister Linda Bartholemew. Larry had 6 grandchildren as well as 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his sister Arlene Atwood, and&nbsp; Grandson Samuel Allen Bratton.

Lois Darlene Johnson Cook, 89, of Wamego, KS passed away, October 17.2025 at the Wamego Health Center.

Lois was born to Harry and Dossie (Tinsley) Johnson at Wamego, KS on August 29, 1936. She lived in Wamego, KS area all her life. She attended school and graduated from Wamego High School, Manhattan Area Technical College and the Police Academy in Topeka. Lois worked at Genn Hospital, Wamego City Hospital, Riley County Hospital, Riley County Emergency Management Services, Shawnee County Emergency Services Unit, Midwest True Value, Pottawatomie County Sheriff Office, Special Deputy for the Wabaunsee County Sheriff Office and one of the first Emergency Medical Technician with Pottawatomie County Ambulance Service.

She was a member of the City of Wamego Police Reserves, Life member and past Officer of the Ladies VFW auxiliary 1258, past Officer of the Dutch Mill Noon Club GFWC, past Officer of the Three Rivers Board, past Officer of the Wamego City Hospital Board and Honorary Member of the Wamego Hospital Foundation. Over the years, she volunteered with the American Red Cross since 1954; Head Start; Community Health Ministry for several years; Topeka Veterans Administration Hospital; Coached Girl’s Softball for 7 years; Girl Scouts of America, where she was a leader for 10 years and Boy Scouts of America, where she was a leader for 32 years. In 2008, she earned the honor of Wamego Citizen of the Year for all of her volunteer work.&nbsp; She enjoyed gardening and raising her flowers.

Lois married William Shelton Cook on November 27, 1955.&nbsp; Following sixty-seven years together, he preceded her in death on December 7, 2022.

Survivors include daughter, Kathryn Reed; sons, Harry S. Cook and William Cook (Della) all of Wamego, KS; grandsons, Michael Reed (Courtney) of Wamego, KS and Adam Reed of Wamego, KS; Great-grandchildren, Lexi, Lex, Symphony, Abby, Willow; brother, Robert Johnson of McFarland, KS; and a host of relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Emma Johnson and brothers Donald Johnson and Vernon Johnson.

Stephanie De-Ann Marshall passed on October 11, 2025 in the care of Hospice at Village Manor in Abilene.

Mrs. Marshall was born Stephanie De-Ann Cossel November 10, 1949 to Kenneth Everett Cossel and Virginia Lea Smith Cossel in Spokane Washington.

On June 30, 1967, she was wed to William Ira Marshall Sr. To this union were three children, Robin Dee (Gary) Williams of Wichita, KS, Buffy Jo-El (Chris) Dugan of Wichita, KS, and William I. Marshall, Jr (Kelly Skinner) of Olathe, KS.

Dee attended Concordia public schools. She received a Bachelor of Science from Marymount College in 1988 and a Master of Business Administration from Kansas Wesleyan University in 1997. In 1999, Dee earned Certified Public Manager.

Dee was employed by The Kansas Department of Corrections as head accountant for the Ellsworth Correctional Facility in Ellsworth, Kansas, and as Business Administrator for the Topeka and Hutchinson Correctional Facilities. She also served as adjunct faculty for Benedictine College, Kansas Wesleyan University and Kansas State University of Salina teaching computer sciences, accounting, and linear statistics. She was a past president of Phi Beta Lambda of Marymount College.

Dee was a long-time Abilene resident and active in the community. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church and served on the Pastoral Parish Council and the Finance Council. She was a member of The American Correctional Association, The Kansas Correctional Association and The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) where she served as State Treasurer and State Auditor, National Appointment as State Chair of Master Reports, Kansas Society DAR, Vice Chair of Auditing and Vice Chair America 250! Patriot Express, National Society of the DAR. She served in many offices for the Abilene Chapter DAR to include Regent, Vice Regent, Registrar and Treasurer. She served as the president of the Board of Directors for Great Plains Theatre, on the Abilene City Commission from 2015-2023 and was Abilene Mayor from 2016-2017 and in 2021.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, step father (Jim Allen), brothers Ron and K. Wayne (Butch), brothers-in-law Gary Ashland and Chuck Eis and nieces Geri Eis and Victoria Ashland.

Dee is survived by her husband of the home, three children, 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Kathy Ashland of Concordia, Kennda Eis of Milwaukee, WI, two brothers, Wallace (Pat) Cossel of Sheridan, WY, Terry (Karen) Cossel of Beatrice, NE .and numerous other relatives.

Dee was always busy. If she did not have work, she found it. She enjoyed working in the house, garden and even enjoyed weeding. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, crossword puzzles and etching glass. Because she often needed muscle and logistics, she required Bill’s help…whether he liked it or not. A project for DAR spawned a newfound and much-loved hobby of headstone restoration. She and Bill traveled across Kansas and Missouri restoring family headstones; cleaning and resetting the stones where needed. They even had broken stones repaired by professionals when the work was beyond their capabilities.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 19th at the St Andrews Catholic Church from 3pm-4:30pm followed by the rosary.

Funeral services are Monday, October 20 at 10am at the St Andrews Catholic Church, Abilene, KS followed by graveside services at St Joseph’s Cemetery. Immediately following, family and friends are invited to celebrate Dee’s life at a lunch at the St Andrew’s Parish Center.

Keith R. Bliss was born December 22, 1937 in Iola, Kansas the son of Wayne and Esther (Laymon) Bliss. He passed away Saturday, September 27, 2025 at the Enterprise Estates Nursing Home.

Keith grew up in the Iola area graduating in 1955 from Elsmore High School and attended Kansas State University. Through his involvement in 4-H, Keith early on demonstrated an avid interest in ham radios, electronics and technology. He then developed a passion for trucking, serving as a driver and trainer for Swift trucking Company in his later years. He was also a member of the James R. Cutler American Legion Post #39 in Abilene.

He is survived by his sons Richard Bliss and Phillip “Tim” and his wife Diane Bliss of Enterprise, sister Betty Jo Melcher of Newton, niece, one great nephew, eight grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sandy, brother-in-law Elvin Melcher, niece and her husband, a great nephew, a granddaughter, and a great great grandchild.

Keith R. Bliss

Larry Ray Mumpower, age 71, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, surrounded by his family in Wamego, Kansas.

He was born on May 26, 1954, in Fort Riley, Kansas. He was the son of Donald Mumpower and Laverta Hafenstein.

Larry was previously married before his marriage to Gloria, and from that union, he had four children. Later, on May 6, 1989, Larry married Gloria Moege, with whom he shared many years of companionship and family life. Together, they had two children, Harold and Mary, whom they raised on the family farm. Throughout his life, Larry worked as a union carpenter and was a jack of all trades, spending time lending a hand to friends and family.

He enjoyed coaching and was involved in coaching his kids' sports teams, including girls' softball, boys' baseball, basketball, and soccer. He had a big heart and was known for helping children in need. Hunting, fishing, gardening, and playing cards were other pastimes he loved, and he cherished spending time with his grandchildren most of all.

Larry was known for his ornery and blunt personality. He lived life fast and to the fullest, embodying a rough and tough demeanor but a soft spot for his family. He was proud of his family farm and land. In his final days, Larry returned home after a hospitalization in Topeka. He spent the last week of his life watching the moon, watching his grandchildren play, and enjoying the farm where he raised his children and grandchildren, and his dogs that also became family. He passed peacefully with his family by his side, exactly where he wanted to be in his final days.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Mumpower; his kids, Harold (Lola Peters) Mumpower; Mary (Joseph) Fialkowski; Kody Stevens, Kristina Stevens, and Kelsie Hudson; his grandchildren: Rayanna and Christian Fialkowski; Kenzleigh, Lilly, Twyla, and Wilbur Mumpower; brother, Randy (Jane) Mumpower, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Mumpower and Laverta Rush; his in-laws, Wibur and Mary Moege; his grandparents, Harold and Selma Hafenstein; and his sister, Donette Stevens.

 </figure>Larry Ray Mumpower, age 71, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, surrounded by his family in Wamego, Kansas.He was born on May 26, 1954, in Fort Riley, Kansas. He was the son of Donald Mumpower and Laverta Hafenstein.Larry was previously married before his marriage to Gloria, and from that union, he had four children. Later, on May 6, 1989, Larry married Gloria Moege, with whom he shared many years of companionship and family life. Together, they had two children, Harold and Mary, whom they raised on the family farm. Throughout his life, Larry worked as a union carpenter and was a jack of all trades, spending time lending a hand to friends and family.He enjoyed coaching and was involved in coaching his kids' sports teams, including girls' softball, boys' baseball, basketball, and soccer. He had a big heart and was known for helping children in need. Hunting, fishing, gardening, and playing cards were other pastimes he loved, and he cherished spending time with his grandchildren most of all.Larry was known for his ornery and blunt personality. He lived life fast and to the fullest, embodying a rough and tough demeanor but a soft spot for his family. He was proud of his family farm and land. In his final days, Larry returned home after a hospitalization in Topeka. He spent the last week of his life watching the moon, watching his grandchildren play, and enjoying the farm where he raised his children and grandchildren, and his dogs that also became family. Larry Ray Mumpower

Phillip James Foust, fondly known as Phil, was born on November 9, 1935, in Cedar Vale, Kansas. He passed away on October 15, 2025, in Junction City, Kansas.&nbsp;

Phil enjoyed a distinguished 34-year career in the banking industry, showcasing his dedication and expertise in finance. His educational background includes graduating from the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin, an accomplishment that laid the foundation for his professional journey.

Phil's life was enriched by his service in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served as a trombonist for the Air Force band. While stationed in Savannah, Georgia, he had the honor of performing with the Georgia Symphony Orchestra, a testament to his musical talent and passion.

On May 29, 1955, Phil married Patricia Oltjen in Cedar Vale, Kansas. Together, they shared a life of companionship and love until her passing on February 5, 2023. Phil's legacy continues through his surviving family members. He is survived by his son, Graham (Denise) Foust of Junction City, Kansas; his daughter, Gretchen Foust and her partner, Deb McWilliams of Midlothian, Texas; grandchildren Teiah, Whitney, and Rocco; great-grandchildren Langdon, Tyren, Kiara, Arya, and Jesse; and his sister, Betty Jellison.

Phil was also preceded in death by his son Vincent Foust and granddaughter Jessie Foust.

Command Sergeant Major (RET) Nathaniel Hopkins, affectionately known as Nate, passed away on October 14, 2025, at the age of 70 in Junction City, Kansas. Born on November 9, 1954, in Lewes, Delaware, Nate dedicated his life to serving others both in his military career and in his community.

Nate enlisted in the United States Army in 1976, rising to the rank of Command Sergeant Major (E-9) and honoring a distinguished career that spanned 29 years. His dedication to his service and leadership was evident in the way he mentored young soldiers and inspired them toward personal and professional growth, cultivating a spirit of learning among those he guided. His pride in his accomplishments extended beyond the military; he was a committed member of New Church of The Living God, where he served as a Deacon and took on responsibilities such as providing security. His work with the church community underscored his faith as a true believer in the Lord.

He married the love of his life, Sue, on December 24, 1977, in Leesville, Louisiana. Together, they cherished large family reunions and holiday gatherings, with Christmas being Nate's favorite celebration. His warmth and engaging personality made him a central figure in family traditions and memories. He loved spending quality time with his loved ones, relishing every opportunity for fellowship and good food.

Nate’s interests extended to fishing, working on cars, and computers, reflecting his hands-on, hardworking nature. He was known for taking charge and being inspiring, loving, and embodying the qualities of a devoted provider.

As we remember Command Sergeant Major Nathaniel Hopkins, we also celebrate a life of unwavering dedication to family, friends, and community. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the lessons he imparted. His life spoke for him, and his character demonstrated that his soul was "Anchored in the Lord."

Gladys E. Cafferty passed away on the morning of October 11th at the age of 90. Her final years were spent in her daughter’s loving and capable care, surrounded by as much family as time, distance, and health would allow.&nbsp;

She joins her husband, Daryl Cafferty, who passed 43 years prior, her parents, four of her brothers – Mac, Lovett, Paul, and Bobby – and her two sisters – Sallie Syms and Mary Godbee.&nbsp;

She leaves behind her brother Jimmy Clarke, sister-in-law Sandy Halfmann, daughter Evelyn Stites, son-in-law Rod Stites, two sons Charles and Daryl Cafferty, six grandchildren – Jessica and Brent Stites and Zac, Ethan, Alex, and Charles Cafferty – and two great-grandchildren, Kaden and Hensley Cafferty, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be greatly missed.

He leaves behind a legacy of dedication to education, love for family, and a profound respect for nature. Lawrence devoted 35 years of his life to teaching various branches of science in the Junction City area, where he inspired countless students with his passion for learning. Known for making science an enjoyable subject, he was a beloved educator who always had a captivating story to share, along with advice that resonated beyond the classroom.

Each May, Lawrence would lead an annual field trip to the Wichita Mountains in Southern Oklahoma, accompanied by his class and family. This unique experience allowed 50 ninth graders to appreciate the splendor of nature while learning vital wilderness survival skills, creating cherished memories that his students would carry with them long after leaving his tutelage.

Born in 1948, Lawrence's journey through life included serving honorably in the National Guard during the 1960s. This service exemplified his commitment to his community and country.

On June 6, 1970, Lawrence married his beloved wife, Kathi Jo, in a small church in Cedarvale, Kansas. Their marriage of 40 years was a testament to their deep love for one another. She passed away on August 9, 2010 and no one ever compared to the love he had for his wife.

Lawrence was immensely proud of his children, Greg and Heather, cherishing the moments spent with them throughout their lives. His joy multiplied with the arrival of his grandsons, Gabriel and Jared, whom he loved deeply and considered among his proudest accomplishments.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Ethel Iris Field.

He is survived by his son Greg Young, daughter Heather Duquette, 2 grandsons, and his Pomeranian Tenshi.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In his spare time, Lawrence indulged in his passion for geology and rocks, crafting beautiful pieces of jewelry from his finds, which exemplified his creativity and appreciation for the natural world.

A visitation to celebrate Lawrence's life will be held on October 15, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Johnson &amp; Mass-Hinitt Cremations, Funerals &amp; Receptions in Junction City, Kansas.

A private family burial will take place at a later date.&nbsp;

Thelma Jean Thomasson passed away peacefully in her home on October 8, 2025 at the age of 74. Thelma was born in Holts Summit, Missouri to Lloyd and Marie Vaught on October 29, 1950.

Thelma married the love of her life Robert Thomasson when she was 18 years old and they shared two sons. She loved her family deeply and often would visit her sons until she was no longer able. 

Thelma worked for Scholastic Magazines over 40 years in Jefferson City, Missouri where she retired from in 2013. She loved her job and the people she worked with. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Marie Vaught, husband Robert, and her son Lloyde Thomasson. 

She is survived by her son Robert Thomasson and his wife Melissa. She cared and loved for her extended family that included many nieces and nephews as well as friends that became her family over the years. 

She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Thelma Jean Thomasson

&nbsp; Marabelle “Mary” Louise Moege, 100, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center.&nbsp; She was a life-long resident of the Wamego and Alma communities.

Mary was born on January 18, 1925, in rural Burns, Kansas, the daughter of Oliver A. and Minnie G. (Weber) Anderson.&nbsp; She attended school in Alma and graduated from Alma High School in 1942.&nbsp; During WWII, Mary and her sister spent time in Wichita, where they were working for the war effort as “Rosie the Riveters”.On October 18, 1948, Mary married Warren Arthur Moege in Alma.&nbsp; They lived there until 1957, when they moved to Wamego.&nbsp; They owned and operated Moege Truck Lines until his death on May 30, 1973.Mary worked many years at the Alma Signal Enterprise paper as a typesetter.&nbsp; 

After moving to Wamego, she worked for the Wamego Times until her retirement.She was very involved with her nieces and nephews and in later years her grand nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She loved to travel with her family and especially enjoyed trips to the beach where she gathered a large collection of seashells.&nbsp; 

She started a Christmas family tradition with a grocery give away gift exchange.&nbsp; She was an extremely hard worker and was always willing to help on the farm.&nbsp; She cut weeds and picked rock well into her 80’s. She was especially fond of her chickens and enjoyed taking care of them.&nbsp; She knew all the different birds and taught each family member all the different names.&nbsp; Her nieces and nephews saw her as the “fun aunt” and always enjoyed the times they were together. &nbsp;

Mary loved to bowl and won many awards as a member of the Kut and Kurl bowling team. Reading, gardening, baking, working Criptoquotes, crossword, and puzzles were special interests..&nbsp; She always raised a large garden and gave away gallons of strawberries.&nbsp; She would arrive at family get togethers loaded with fried chicken, pie and homemade bread.&nbsp; Her bread &nbsp;won her ribbons at the Mid-American Fair.&nbsp;

Mary was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, attended Redeemer Lutheran Church at Lake Wabaunsee.Mary is survived by her sister-in-laws, Anna Mae Anderson and &nbsp;Jo-Ann Miller, brother-in-laws Dan Moege and Earl (Paula) Moege; and numerous nieces, nephews and grand- nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Lou Cromer (Dale), Don (Mary Elizabeth) Anderson, Larry Anderson and Stephen Anderson, her niece Amy Lou Billesback and nephew.Alan Cromer.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

 </figure>&nbsp; Marabelle “Mary” Louise Moege, 100, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center.&nbsp; She was a life-long resident of the Wamego and Alma communities.Mary was born on January 18, 1925, in rural Burns, Kansas, the daughter of Oliver A. and Minnie G. (Weber) Anderson.&nbsp; She attended school in Alma and graduated from Alma High School in 1942.&nbsp; During WWII, Mary and her sister spent time in Wichita, where they were working for the war effort as “Rosie the Riveters”.On October 18, 1948, Mary married Warren Arthur Moege in Alma.&nbsp; They lived there until 1957, when they moved to Wamego.&nbsp; They owned and operated Moege Truck Lines until his death on May 30, 1973.Mary worked many years at the Alma Signal Enterprise paper as a typesetter.&nbsp; After moving to Wamego, she worked for the Wamego Times until her retirement.She was very involved with her nieces and nephews and in later years her grand nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She loved to travel with her family and especially enjoyed trips to the beach where she gathered a large collection of seashells.&nbsp; She started a Christmas family tradition with a grocery give away gift exchange.&nbsp; She was an extremely hard worker and was always willing to help on the farm.&nbsp; She cut weeds and picked rock well into her 80’s. She was especially fond of her chickens and enjoyed taking care of them.&nbsp; She knew all the different birds and taught each family member all the different names.&nbsp; Her nieces and nephews saw her as the “fun aunt” and always enjoyed the times they were together. &nbsp;Mary loved to bowl and won many awards as a member of the Kut and Kurl bowling team. Reading, gardening, baking, working Criptoquotes, crossword, and puzzles were special interests..&nbsp; She always raised a large garden and gave away gallons of strawberries.&nbsp; She would arrive at family get togethers loaded with fried chicken, pie and homemade bread.&nbsp; Her bread &nbsp;won her ribbons at the Mid-American Fair.&nbsp;Mary was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, attended Redeemer Lutheran Church at Lake Wabaunsee.Mary is survived by her sister-in-laws, Anna Mae Anderson and &nbsp;Jo-Ann Miller, brother-in-laws Dan Moege and Earl (Paula) Moege; and numerous nieces, nephews and grand- nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Lou Cromer (Dale), Don (Mary Elizabeth) Anderson, Larry Anderson and Stephen Anderson, her niece Amy Lou Billesback and nephew.Alan Cromer.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Bruce Evans Rose of Junction City, Kansas passed away on October 6, 2025 at home. He was born on August 2, 1947 to Malcolm E. “Jack” Rose and Doris Elizabeth (Highfill) Rose at the Holton Hospital, Holton, Kansas.

He lived in Holton his entire childhood until his High School graduation in 1966. He spent a lot of his childhood at the Holton Swimming Pool which was managed by his father. He worked there throughout his early life and taught many children in the Holton area how to swim through the Red Cross Swim program. He was also a very active scouter starting as a cub and reaching his Eagle Scout Status. He was a delegate to the International Ramboree in Darby, England in 1965.

He joined the National Guard in 1966 in Manhattan, Kansas and was sent to Ft. Ord, California in 1967 for combat training. He also served in the Army Reserve until his discharge in 1972. He was proud to be a part of the Honor Guard at the funeral of Dwight D. Eisenhower in Abilene, Kansas.

Bruce attended Kansas State University and was a member of Delta Chi fraternity. He attended for 1 year then went to military training in California. After returning he attended Emporia State University for 1 semester then returned to Kansas State University to complete his degree in 1971.

On August 4, 1968, he and Carolyn Klahr were married in Holton, Kansas. To their union, their daughter, Lisa Elizabeth was born. Carolyn and Bruce celebrated their 57th anniversary before his death.

After his graduation in May, 1971, Bruce accepted a position with the Kaw Council Boy Scouts of America in Kansas City, Kansas. He served as a Boy Scout Professional and Explorer Scout Professional until his resignation in August of 1974 to pursue the purchase of a business. Bruce and Carolyn purchased West Acres Greenhouse and Floral in Junction City, Kansas. He operated and managed the Greenhouse and Landscaping part of the business until its sale in 2000.

His last career change took place in 2001 when he became the Horticulture Instructor at the Women’s Correctional Facility in Topeka, Kansas. During his tenure there he added 2 new greenhouses to the facility and conducted classes in horticulture and plant growing. He and his staff planted all the floral plantings each spring for the capital, statehouse and governor’s mansion. He retired in 2013.

Bruce loved traveling with his family, gardening, landscaping and spending time outdoors and collecting Western memorabilia.

He hunted with great friends every year for 45+ years and hosted many weekend hunts from their home.

He also loved fishing trips to Red Lake, Canada with Carolyn and friends and the fly-in fishing with his pals to remote lakes in Canada.

One of the highlights of his life was spending a week on the USS Constellation with his nephew and father as the ship came into port in Hawaii.

After retirement he spent many hours as a volunteer for Wheels of Hope, Geary Co. Food Pantry and Eagle Scout Review boards.

He was a 50+ year member of the United Methodist Church of Junction City and past member of Rotary, Chamber of Commerce and 101 Ranch Collectors Assn.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn, daughter Lisa Rose-Michalski and husband Mark, Wichita, KS. Grandchildren: Aden Michalski, Bastrop, TX and Maya Michalski, NYC. Sister: Leah Cornelssen, Goodyear, AZ as well as many loving nieces, nephews and many friends.

His remains will be cremated. An informal celebration of life for Bruce to share your special memories with family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in the Bobo Room at First United Methodist Church located at 804 N Jefferson St, Junction City, Kansas, 66441.

Memorial Contributions are requested to be made to the Geary County Food Pantry/Wheels of Hope Junction City, Kansas or to the First United Methodist Church of Junction City, Kansas.

Phyllis Jean Newland, a beacon of love and warmth, departed from this life on October 5, 2025, in Manhattan, Kansas. Born on July 27, 1931, in Mountain Park, Oklahoma, though she always claimed to be from The Bay Area in California. Phyllis lived a life dedicated to family, faith, and the simple joys of life, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by many.

Phyllis married the love of her life, Brownie Newland, on her 17th birthday, July 27, 1948, in Richmond, California. Their bond was a true testament to love that lasts a lifetime; Brownie preceded her in death on April 26, 1999. Together, they created a family filled with laughter, warmth, and special memories, instilling values that will live on through their children and grandchildren.

As a caring and loving grandmother to all who knew her, Phyllis had a heart that embraced everyone. She was known for always having Hershey chocolate on tap, a sweet symbol of her generous and nurturing spirit. Each delicious piece was a reminder of her love, wrapped in sweetness and shared moments that brought families together.

Her passion for life extended to her hobbies and interests. Phyllis was not only a devoted grandmother but also an accomplished crocheter, famously crafting wonderful baby blankets that became treasured within her family and church community. Her creative touch made every stitch a warm hug that will be remembered fondly. As a faithful member of the Church of Christ throughout her life, her faith was a guiding light, showcasing her dedication to her beliefs and community. Additionally, Phyllis had an eye for beauty, immersing herself in the world of jewelry collecting.

Phyllis leaves behind an enduring family legacy, which includes her beloved daughters, Shirley Smith and Marie (David) Wingate; grandchildren Patricia Smith, Benjamin Smith, Eric (Ronda) Wingate, Julianne Kehoe, and Joshua (Michelle) Wingate; as well as 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry the imprint of her spirit and love.

Though she is preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Louise Fleming, and her husband, Brownie, Phyllis Jean Newland's influence will echo through the generations. The love and kindness she imparted to everyone she met will continue to warm hearts long after her departure. She may have left this earth, but her memory will forever be woven into the fabric of her family and the lives she touched. James L. Sader, affectionately known as "Jim," was born on August 20, 1939, in Ramona, Kansas. He left this world peacefully on October 4, 2025, in Junction City, Kansas, surrounded by the memories of a life well-lived.

James married the love of his life Rosie McFall on August 21, 1960 in Salina, Kansas at Trinity Lutheran Church. Together they moved to Junction City and started their family and life of love and laughter.&nbsp;

Jim began his professional journey in the insurance field after passing the Life Underwriter Exam in 1965, which marked the beginning of a rewarding 25-year career as an insurance agent in Junction City. His dedication to service extended beyond insurance; he also made significant contributions to the local economy by purchasing and operating a liquor store on the corner of 10th and Franklin for two decades. This entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to his community have left a lasting impact on those who knew him.

A man of many interests and a love for adventure, Jim cherished family vacations that took him across the country, with unforgettable memories created in places such as Hawaii, Texas, Colorado, South Dakota, and Nevada. His passions included avid reading and traveling, spending summers soaking up the sun in Fort Myers Beach, Florida.

Jim enjoyed living in Italy with his beloved wife, Rosie, for a couple of years while they traveled throughout Europe and parts of Africa. He was also deeply involved in his children's lives, serving as a basketball and football coach at Immanuel Lutheran School, where he nurtured the talents of young athletes.

Jim's love for family was profound and unwavering. He is survived by his son, Terry (Angela) Sader; daughter, Denise (Barrie) Loeb; grandchildren, Kristen, Lindsey, Caitlin, and Sydney; and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Caiden, Lincoln, and Alexander. He found immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren, creating a legacy of love that will continue through them.

He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Rosie McFall Sader, who passed on November 8, 2011, his parents, Peter and Hanna Sader, and his siblings, sister LaDonna Sader and brother Gerald Sader.

The family invites all who knew Jim to celebrate his life during the visitation on October 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM, at Johnson &amp; Mass-Hinitt Cremations, Funerals &amp; Receptions in Junction City, Kansas.
