WICHITA, KAN.&nbsp;- A Kansas man pleaded guilty Thursday to robbing a bank, according to U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister.

Jeremy Vos, 21, Wichita, Kan., pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery. In his plea, he admitted that on July 23, 2019, he robbed Intrust Bank at 5500 E. Harry. He gave the teller a handwritten note saying, "This is a robbery. No (dye) bags. I have a gun." Police arrested Vos the same day as the robbery.

Wichita police reported Vos had made a false report to 911 shortly before the robbery.

Sentencing is set for March 6. He could face up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.

Kansas man made fake 911 call just before robbing bank

KANSAS CITY (AP) — The body of a Kansas City woman missing nearly a week was found Saturday on the side of a road in the southeastern part of the city, police said in a news release.

Police said family members searching for Renita Thompson, 28, found her body Saturday morning just a block west of Interstate 435 in the Strupwood neighborhood. Police said the body was out of view from traffic on the road.

Police: Body of missing Kansas City woman found by road

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A man has admitted to strangling and killing an 18-year-old Osawatomie woman at a Topeka motel in July 2016.

Clarence James Foy, 29, pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder for the death of Sarah Cheyenne Crawford. She was found strangled with a belt and a telephone charging cord after an argument with Foy at a Ramada Inn in Topeka, The Topeka Capital-Journal&nbsp;<a href="https://www.cjonline.com/news/20191220/man-pleads-guilty-in-2016-killing-at-topeka-motel">reported</a>.

Foy was arrested four days later after Crawford's death after a police chase in Platte County, Missouri.

Foy has convictions for burglary and theft in Johnson County and a felony drug crime committed in Miami County. He was in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections from August 2014 until he was paroled in July 2016, according to corrections department records posted online.

Olathe, Kan.—Law enforcement say a 68-year-old woman has been found stabbed to death in the&nbsp;10200 block of S. Shadow Circle in Olathe, according to a media release.

 Officers responded to an armed disturbance just before noon Friday&nbsp; and found the woman suffering from a stab wound.&nbsp;

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not yet been released. Police say another woman, a 38-year-old who knew the victim, was also found at the scene and taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. No arrests or charges had been announced by midday Saturday.

TOPEKA– Law enforcement authorities are investigating a homicide and now a reward is being offered for information in the case, according to a media release.&nbsp;

The family of John Waller has given Shawnee County Crime Stoppers $20,000 to be used for a reward leading to the arrest of a suspect in his death.

Police found Waller’s body on June 17, 2019 at 9:44 a.m. inside a residence in the 700 block of SW Wayne in Topeka. It is believed Waller was killed between June 3 and June 4.

In addition to the $20,000 reward, Shawnee County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.

Reward increased for information in Kansas homicide investigation

RILEY COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating an aggravated battery and have a teen suspect in custody.

Just after 3p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the 400 Block of Clydesdale Drive in Ogden, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

A 16-year-old identified as Armando Valazquez of Ogden attempted to use body spray and a lighter in an alleged attack on another 16-year-old boy, according to the report.

Police arrested Valazquez on requested charges that include "Create simulated explosives to intimidate Attempted aggravated battery; Reckless deadly weapon cause great body harm/disfigure/death of Juvenile.&nbsp;&nbsp;

RCPD: Teen used body spray in attempt to set teen on fire 

BARTON COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man after a high speed chase and crash.

Just before 10:30 p.m. Thursday, an Ellinwood Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of South Main Street and learned the driver had a Barton District Warrant for his arrest. 

The driver later identified as Shawn Aaron Cook, 30, Great Bend, refused to exit the vehicle.&nbsp; Hled in the vehicle to South East 20 Road where he turned westbound and continued at speeds in excess of 120 mph and struck a deer.

After the crash, Cook temporarily lost control of the vehicle, the regained control and intentionally drove directly towards the pursuing officer, nearly striking the officer head-on. 

Cook then drove into a field in the 700 block of SE 20 Road and traveled North bound for a short distance before his vehicle was disabled from the deer collision.

Police took Cook into custody without further incident and transported him the Barton County Jail where he was booked in on the Barton District Warrant for failure to appear, aggravated assault on law enforcement officer along with multiple traffic violations.

Police catch Kan. man after chase at 120mph, crash into deer

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating another alleged porch theft and have made an arrest.

Just before 3 p.m. Wednesday, Wichita Patrol South officers were working a special assignment monitoring for thefts from porches, according to officer Charley Davidson.&nbsp; 

Two WPD officers observed 35-year-old Cory Buffum riding a bike in the area of Broadway and Lincoln carrying an Epsom Printer box with a UPS shipping label on it.&nbsp; 

The officers stopped Buffum, and the investigation revealed the package had been taken from the porch of a home in the 1400 block of West McCormick, according to Davidson.

The stolen item was returned to the owner, who also reported having a RING video of the theft.&nbsp;&nbsp;The case will be presented to Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office.

An increase in package thefts is generally seen during this time of year.&nbsp; Here are some tips you can do to help keep your property safe:

Police catch Kan. man carrying box taken in alleged porch theft

VINITA, Okla. (AP) — A man suspected in the deaths of an Oklahoma couple and the vanishing and presumed deaths of their teenage daughter and her friend two decades ago was found competent to stand trial.

A three-man, three-woman jury deliberated for 45 minutes before returning with that verdict Wednesday in a competency hearing for Ronnie Dean Busick. Busick showed no emotion as the decision was announced, the Tulsa World reported.

Authorities believe Busick was one of three men who shot Danny and Kathy Freeman, set the Craig County couple’s mobile home on fire with them inside, and kidnapped their then-16-year-old daughter, Ashley Freeman, and friend Lauria Bible on Dec. 30, 1999. The other two suspects have since died.

Busick had been living in Kansas when he was arrested in April 2018 and charged with four counts of first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping and one count of first-degree arson.

The defense has argued that Busick is not competent to stand trial because he suffered a traumatic brain injury in 1978 and has trouble focusing, getting a clear story, and rationalizing the case.

Four witnesses testified during a two-day competency hearing.

Scott Orth, director of forensic psychology at the Oklahoma Forensic Center in Vinita, told jurors that Busick “was very cooperative and very forthright” when he evaluated him.

Shawn Roberson, a forensic psychologist hired by the state, described Busick as not depressed nor hearing voices. Busick was concerned that the publicity surrounding the case had “tainted the community against him,” he said.

Gilbert Martinez, a Texas-based neuropsychologist who was an expert for the defense, testified about a gunshot wound Busick sustained in 1978 and its impact on his brain’s ability to process information.

“He is not competent to understand all the complexities of trial,” Martinez said. Gregg Graves, one of Busick’s attorneys, testified that Busick didn’t know Graves’ name.

Busick has has denied any involvement or knowledge of the whereabouts of the teenage girls’ remains, Graves said.

After the hearing, District Attorney Matt Ballard vowed that authorities would find the missing pair. Lorene Bible, Lauria Bible’s mother, urged someone to come forward with information.

“We are still looking for the girls,” she said. “Somebody out there knows something.” Busick is slated to come back to court on Feb. 7, when his preliminary hearing date will be set.

Jury finds Kan. man fit for trial in 1999 slayings in Oklahoma

BUTLER COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man on car theft and drug charges after a chase and crash.

Just after 8 a.m. Thursday, police were dispatched to the Cloud Ridge Apartments, 217 W. 3rd Street in Andover on the report of a possible burglary in progress and the suspects were in a dark green Chrysler 300, according to a media release.

Upon arrival officers observed that the apartment’s maintenance worker had the driveway blocked with his truck and was pointing at the suspect vehicle. 

The suspect vehicle then drove over the grass on to 3rd street and sped off at a high rate of speed with officers in pursuit.

The the chase continued south on 159th, the suspect's vehicle lost its front passenger side tire but continued across U.S. HWY 54, and then onto Brookhaven where the driver lost control on the curve, leaving the road and striking a tree. 

The driver, who was later identified as 24-year-old Lucas Tullis of Wichita was taken into custody as he tried to escape the vehicle through the sun roof. 

The passenger, a 27-year woman from of Wichita opened the vehicle door and fell to the ground. Both Tullis and passenger were transported to a Wichita Hospital by EMS where the passenger remains. 

When Tullis was released from the hospital, police transported him back to Andover where he remains in custody.

During the investigation, the suspect’s vehicle was determined to have been stolen out of Bentley, Kansas.

Tullis is being held on requested charges of Possession of Stolen Property, Identity Theft, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Paraphernalia, Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Felony Evade and Elude. Charges are pending on the passenger.

Police arrest Kansas man in stolen car after chase, crash

WICHITA, KAN.&nbsp;- A Kansas man was sentenced Thursday to 71 months in federal prison for a robbery in which more than 75 cell phones were stolen from a Sprint store, according to U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister.

Xavier Lopez, 26, Wichita, Kan., pleaded guilty to one count of robbery. In his plea, he admitted he served as a lookout while co-defendant&nbsp;Camarin McPherson, 26, Wichita, Kan., robbed a Sprint store at 530 S. West St. in Wichita. McPherson brandished a firearm and hog-tied a clerk with zip ties before taking 54 Apple iPhones and 24 Samsung Galaxy phones with a total estimated value of more than $60,000.

The robbers were arrested after a chase ended in a wreck at Kellogg and Meridian. McPherson was sentenced last month to 162 months in federal prison

In his plea, he admitted he served as a lookout while co-defendant&nbsp;Camarin McPherson, 26, Wichita, Kan., robbed a Sprint store at 530 S. West St. in Wichita. McPherson brandished a firearm and hog-tied a clerk with zip ties before taking 54 Apple iPhones and 24 Samsung Galaxy phones with a total estimated value of more than $60,000.The robbers were arrested after a chase ended in a wreck at Kellogg and Meridian. McPherson was sentenced last month to 162 months in federal prison

SALINE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a home burglary that involved more than 40 guns and have two suspects in custody.

For almost five months, detectives interviewed dozens of people and followed up on numerous tips and leads concerning a July 24 residential burglary in the 100 block of South Third Street in Smolan, according to&nbsp;Saline County Sheriff's Lieutenant Michael Ascher.

During the burglary, more than 30 rifles and shotguns, at least a dozen handguns, and approximately $500 worth of $2 bills were stolen.

On Tuesday, Saline County Sheriff's Office investigators arrested Joshua Mudd, 29, of Smolan, on requested charges of Burglary with intent to steal a firearm, Felony theft, Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Aggravated child endangerment,Contributing to a child’s misconduct and Criminal damage to property, according to Ascher.

On Wednesday, a deputy arrested Kylee Smith, 33, of Smolan, on requested charges that include Burglary with intent to steal a firearm, Felony theft, Aggravated child endangerment and Contributing to a child’s misconduct.

Deputies have recovered several firearms. However, more than 30 guns are still on the streets.&nbsp;

Sheriff: 2 arrested for alleged theft of 40 guns from Kan. home

BARTON COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas teen on drug and weapons charges after a traffic stop.

Just after 11:30p.m. Tuesday, an officer from the Great Bend Police Department stopped a green 1997 Ford F-150 pickup in the 1900 block of 10th Street for a traffic violation, according to a media release from police.

During the course of the traffic stop Great Bend Police Department K9 Menta was deployed to do an exterior sniff of the vehicle. Menta indicated a positive odor of narcotics. Upon completion of the sniff officers searched the vehicle.

During the search of the vehicle methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a handgun were located.

A passenger inside the vehicle identified as Garrett Sigmund, 18, was arrested for narcotics and weapons violations. Sigmund was transported to the Barton County Jail where he was booked in lieu of bond.&nbsp;

Since mid-2019, the Salina/Saline County I-135/I-70 Drug Task Force has been investigating a group of individuals who have been distributing methamphetamine in Salina and the surrounding area. The investigation revealed that several individuals were operating from multiple residences inside Salina, and were engaged in an ongoing narcotics distribution operation.

On Tuesday at approximately 9 a.m., four drug search warrants were served simultaneously in Salina including&nbsp;617 W. Grand Avenue,&nbsp;733 Merrill Street,&nbsp;1426 Pawnee Avenue and&nbsp;1719 Beach Street, according to a media release.

As a result of these search warrants, police arrested nine people including suspects who resided at each of the target locations.

The search of each vehicle is pending a search warrant request made to the Saline County District Court.

Drug Task Force arrests nine at four locations in Salina

RENO COUNTY –Law enforcement authorities are investigating numerous Criminal Damage/Graffiti cases between 1st Avenue and 11th Avenue and The Hutchinson Mall area to Poplar Street reported on Sunday and have made an arrest, according to a media release from police.

Just before 2:30 Tuesday, an officer located two people of interest on foot in the area of The Hutchinson Mall. Detectives were contacted and conducted interviews. The interviews resulted in the arrests of Trevan Sands Boykins, 18, on requested charges of Felony Criminal Damage and Contributing to a Childs Misconduct and Celestina M. Thiessen, 16, Buhler on requested charges of Felony Criminal Damage.

A search warrant was executed at 1801 Lyman, Apt. #212 and additional arrest were made including Michael McCloud, 18, on requested charges of Contributing to a Childs Misconduct and 10 counts of Criminal Damage. Avery Mekalsen, 17, for Felony Criminal Damage and 9 counts of Misdemeanor Criminal Damage.

LINCOLN COUNTY, NE— State troopers have arrested two people after discovering more than 200 pounds of marijuana in two traffic stops Monday, according to a media release from the Nebraska State Patrol.

Just after 6:30 p.m., a trooper observed a Hyundai Santa Fe fail to signal a turn as it was exiting Interstate 80 at the Ogallala interchange. During the traffic stop, the trooper detected criminal activity. A search of the vehicle revealed 116 pounds of marijuana.

The driver, Erasmo Arteaga Chavez, 26, of Renton, Washington, was arrested for possession of marijuana – more than one pound and possession with intent to deliver. He was lodged in Keith County Jail.

Just before 7:30 p.m., another trooper observed a Ford Explorer following too closely on Interstate 80 near Kearney. During the traffic stop, the trooper observed signs of clandestine activity. Troopers performed a search of the vehicle and discovered 95 pounds of marijuana.

The driver, Patricia Jolly, 57, of Pearl, Mississippi was arrested for possession of marijuana – more than one pound and possession with intent to deliver. Jolly was lodged in Buffalo County Jail.

State troopers find over 200 pounds of pot during 2 traffic stops

Sometime between 7:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Monday, someone broke into a residence in the 2600 block of Linda Lane, according to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester. It is believed that entry was made through an attached garage.

During the investigation, police located footprints in the snow that led to a neighboring house.&nbsp; After talking with residents there, police believe another resident identified as a white male in his 20s, is the person responsible for the burglary.&nbsp;

Items valued at more than $1,800 were reported taken including a Samsung camcorder, a PSE Vision compound bow, a Henry 3030 Yellow Boy brass rifle,&nbsp;Remington 1100 12-gauge shotgun, two PSE Kudu recurve bows, a jar of coins and miscellaneous arrows

During the investigation,&nbsp; police located the compound bow,&nbsp; camcorder, and the jar.&nbsp;Police have not reported an arrest.

Footprints in snow help police in Kansas home burglary investigation

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) -A 13-year-old Kansas girl who was arrested for pointing a finger gun at classmates has been placed on a juvenile diversion program.

The Overland Park girl, who was originally charged with felony threatening, was set to go before a judge on Tuesday, but the hearing was canceled. A spokeswoman for the Johnson County District Attorney confirmed she is on diversion but provided no details.

The girl's mother told the media previously that she made the gun with her fingers after a boy asked who she would kill if she could kill five classmates.

A special prosecutor filed the charges in Kingman County District Court following a review of the organization's financial records.

Former Kingman chamber director accused of theft, fraud

KANSAS CITY, KAN. -&nbsp;An Overland Park woman is scheduled to appear in court this week on a federal interstate prostitution charge, according to U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister.

Chunqui Wu, 61, Overland Park, Kan., is charged with one count of transportation with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct. An indictment alleges Wu owned or operated three massage parlors: Alpha Massage at 116 S. Clairborne, #A, in Olathe, Kan.; A Plus Massage at 527 N. Mur-Len Road, in Olathe, Kan.; and King Spa at 13104 State Line Road in Leawood, Kan.

Documents filed in federal court say investigators worked with an undercover confidential source who contacted Wu and asked for a job working in Wu's massage parlors. An investigator's affidavit alleges Wu made statements indicating she allowed her employees to perform sexual services for tips. Other investigators working undercover confirmed that employees in Wu's massage parlors were offering sexual services to customers.

Wu was arrested when she went to the Kansas City International airport in Kansas City, Mo., to meet the undercover confidential source and transport her back to Kansas to work in one of Wu's massage parlors.

Wu is scheduled for an arraignment Dec. 20 in federal court in Kansas City, Kan.

If convicted, Wu could face up to 10 years in federal prison. The Olathe Police Department and the FBI investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kim Flannigan is prosecuting.

An investigator's affidavit alleges Wu made statements indicating she allowed her employees to perform sexual services for tips. Other investigators working undercover confirmed that employees in Wu's massage parlors were offering sexual services to customers.Wu was arrested when she went to the Kansas City International airport in Kansas City, Mo., to meet the undercover confidential source and transport her back to Kansas to work in one of Wu's massage parlors.Wu is scheduled for an arraignment Dec. 20 in federal court in Kansas City, Kan.If convicted, Wu could face up to 10 years in federal prison. The Olathe Police Department and the FBI investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kim Flannigan is prosecuting.

Kansas massage parlor owner charged with allowing sex acts

BUTLER COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new charges after a weekend arrest.

Just before 12:30P.M. Saturday, police were called to a disturbance in the southern part of the city of Augusta, according to the department for public safety.&nbsp;

 Upon arrival, police found two victims identified as Dana Haynes, 59-year old female in critical condition and Jeffrey Carley, a 58-year old male, in serious condition. Butler County EMS transported both to Wesley Medical Center.

Officers were able to find the suspect, Wayne Riggins, 28, who fled the scene. He has been booked in to Butler County Jail on two counts of aggravated battery.

Riggins has seven previous convictions that include burglary, aggravated burglary, theft, criminal damage to property and for drugs, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections

Authorities did not have an update on the victims Monday afternoon..

Kansas felon remains jailed for weekend stabbing

SALINE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon after an altercation that injured a police officer.

Just after 12:30p.m. Friday, police were dispatched to Affordable Transportation, 1818 South Broadway Boulevard in Salina, according to police captain Paul Forrester.&nbsp;

A 59-year-old McPherson man and a 44-year-old Moundridge woman reported being threatened by&nbsp; Justin Howard, 23, of Salina as he walked by the parking lot of the business yelling profanities at them and threatening to shoot them, according to Forester.

Howard left the scene, but returned while police were reviewing surveillance video to confirm the man and woman's story. Officers tried to take Howard into custody, but he allegedly disobeyed police orders, took a fighting stance, and swung his fist at one of the officers.

One of the officers received a concussion when he was pushed to the ground and struck his head on the concrete, according to Forrester.

Police ultimately arrested Howard and he is being held on requested charges that include, Criminal threat, Battery of a law enforcement officer, Assault of a law enforcement officer, Assault, and felony interference with a law enforcement officer.&nbsp;&nbsp;

MONTGOMERY COUNTY– Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal drive-by shooting and have made an arrest, according to a media release from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

At approximately 6 p.m. Saturday, the Independence Police Department received a 911 call from a citizen who reported hearing gunshots. When officers responded they found a female victim who had been shot near the intersection of Laurel St. and Main St. She was pronounced dead at the scene and later identified as 19-year-old Kimberly D. Meeks of Coffeyville.

On Sunday afternoon,&nbsp; authorities arrested 18-year-old Benjamin J. Mason at his residence in Coffeyville for first-degree murder. Mason was then booked into the Montgomery County Jail.

Preliminary information indicates that Meeks and a white male were walking on foot in the area when an unknown person in a car fired gunshots at them and fled. The male accompanying Meeks, who is approximately 19-years-old, also ran from the area.&nbsp;

The Montgomery County Attorney is expected to prosecute the case. The investigation is ongoing.

The Latest: Kan. teen arrested for fatal drive-by shooting

VINITA, Okla. (AP) — A will continue this week to determine the mental competency of a Kansas man to stand trial on murder charges in the deaths of a northeast Oklahoma couple and the presumed deaths of their 16-year-old daughter and her 16-year-old friend.

Craig County district attorney spokeswoman Michelle Lowry said the six-person jury and two alternates were selected early Friday afternoon in the trial of 68-year-old Ronnie Dean Busick of Wichita.

Busick was arrested in April 2018 and charged with four counts of first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping and one count of first-degree arson.

Authorities say Danny and Kathy Freeman of Craig County were shot to death in their mobile home near Welch in Craig County on Dec. 30, 1999, and the home was set on fire to cover up the slayings.

Officials say 16-year-olds Ashley Freeman and Lauria Bible disappeared the same day and have never been found. Lauria had spent the night at the Freeman’s home, and prosecutors believe both were abducted and later slain.

Busick has denied involvement in the case and said he doesn’t know where the girls are.

Two suspected accomplices in the crime are now dead.

WYANDOTTE COUNTY —A suspect in the October shooting at a Kansas bar that killed four people and injured five others is now back in a Kansas jail after an arrest in Mexico.

Hugo Villanueva-Morales, 29, was booked over the weekend into the Wyandotte County Detention Center, according to online jail records.

He is a suspect in the shooting at a Tequila KC bar.  Villanueva-Morales and another man, 23-year-old Javier Alatorre, are charged each with four counts of first-degree murder, with bond set at $1 million each. Alatorre was arrested shortly after the shooting.&nbsp;
