&nbsp;K-State horticulture expert says plants need special care during hot weather&nbsp;

MANHATTAN, Kan. – A Kansas State University horticulture expert is urging Kansas homeowners to pay special attention to trees, shrubs and fruit plants during a stretch that is likely to see several days reach triple digit temperatures.&nbsp;

“Newly planted trees have not established the extensive root system needed to absorb enough water during hot, dry, windy summers,” said K-State’s Ward Upham. “Even trees that are 2-3 years old should receive special care.”&nbsp;

Upham suggests deep, infrequent watering and mulching to help trees become established. Newly planted trees need at least 10 gallons of water per week; twice that amount if they are located on sandy soils.&nbsp;

“The secret is getting that water to soak deeply into the soil so it evaporates more slowly and is available to the tree’s roots longer,” Upham said. “One way to do this is to drill a 1/8 inch hole in the side of a five gallon bucket and fill it with water. The hole should be near the bottom of the bucket. Let the water dribble out slowly next to the tree, then refill the bucket once after moving it to the side of the tree.”&nbsp;

Upham said the method he described assures the tree gets 10 gallons of water. Larger trees, including those transplanted 2-3 years ago, require more water, he said.&nbsp;

Another method suggested by Upham includes using a perforated soaker hose or drip irrigation to water a newly established bed or foundation planting.&nbsp;

“In sunbaked soil, you may need to rough up the surface with a hoe or tiller to get water to infiltrate easily,” he said. “If you are seeing surface runoff, reduce the flow or build a berm with at least a 4-foot diameter around the base of the tree to allow the water to percolate down through the soil, instead of spreading out.”&nbsp;

“Regardless of the method you use,” Upham added, “soil should be wet at least 12 inches deep. Use a metal rod, wooden dowel, electric fence post or something similar to check depth. Dry soil is much harder to push through than wet soil.”&nbsp;

Upham said when temperatures exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit, fruit plants lose water quickly.&nbsp;

“When this happens, moisture is drawn from the fruit to supply the tree,” he said. “Stress from high temperatures along with a moisture deficit in the roots may cause fruit to drop, or fail to increase in size. The stress may also reduce the development of fruit buds for next year’s crop.”&nbsp;

Upham suggests using a metal rod, wooden dowel or even a long screwdriver to check soil moisture at the roots of such fruit plants as trees, vines or canes. Push the tool into the ground 8-12 inches.&nbsp;

“If you can not reach the recommended depth, the plants should be irrigated to prevent drooping and to promote fruit enlargement,” Upham said. “Water can be added to the soil using sprinklers, soaker hose, drip irrigation or even a small trickle of water running from the garden hose for a few hours.”&nbsp;

Upham suggests checking soil moisture at least once a week during hot periods.&nbsp;

“Strawberries have a shallow root system and may need to be water more often; maybe twice a week during extreme weather,” he said. “Newly planted fruit trees on sandy soils may also need water twice a week.”&nbsp;

RILEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect for alleged theft.

Just after 11a.m. Wednesday, officers filed a report for theft in the 14,300 block of Hillside Drive in Randolph, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

A 65-year-old man reported a 38-year-old male suspect stole his 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 and a yellow 1996 Belshe trailer. 

The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $13,000. 

The Marion County Sherrif's Office arrested Eric Pettit, 38, of Galva on requested charges of possession of stolen property. Deputies also recovered the Dodge Ram.

Suspect jailed for alleged pickup, trailer theft

Geary County Sheriff's Department authorities reported a single vehicle injury accident at U.S. 77 mile marker 156 at 3:42 p.m. Wednesday. Bear N. Gooch, Milford, was traveling north on U.S. 77 in a 2009 Toyota Avalon at what he said was a high rate of speed. Gooch stated that he was attempting to pass a vehicle in front of him and moved to the southbound lane of travel but need to quickly move back to the north bound lane due to oncoming traffic. As he moved back to the north bound lane he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to leave the highway to the right, roll over a guard rail and come to rest in the tree line on the passenger side of&nbsp; the vehicle.&nbsp;

Gooch remained trapped in the vehicle until freed with assistance from the Geary County and Junction City Fire Departments. Gooch was checked by EMS, who advised there were no serious obvious injuries other than small cuts and scratches. Bud's Wrecker Service was able to pull the vehicle, which was destroyed, from the tree line.

The tournament honors Rob Regier, a 1988 K-State graduate in pre-dentistry who died of cancer at age 26. It is hosted by his mother, Sandy Regier, and his brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Juli Regier, all of&nbsp;Overland Park. The Regier family has raised more than $383,400 for K-State cancer research and education. The four-person scramble will be at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.colberthills.com/">Colbert Hills Golf Course</a>&nbsp;in Manhattan, with registration opening at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. A steak dinner and prize disbursements will immediately follow at Colbert's restaurant. Prizes will be awarded to top teams, hole-contest winners and more. The tournament is scheduled for the Friday before K-State football hosts Nevada so that out-of-town guests can enjoy both while in Manhattan. Special-rate hotel rooms are being held for tournament guests until Sept. 2. Tournament registration and payment are requested by Sept. 3. Late and same-day registration will be accepted, but advance registration is strongly encouraged for planning and event flow purposes. Flint Hills Regional Leaders Retreat opens Thursday

It took an extra inning but the Junction City Brigade defeated the Midwest A's 12-7 in 10 innings Wednesday night in Belton, MO. The win allowed the Brigade to sweep the A's in the Mid Plains League championship series 2-0 to claim the Cowdin Cup that goes to the league champion.

Junction City scored three runs in the top of the 9th inning to take a 7-4 lead but the A's scored three in the bottom of the ninth to force the extra inning where Junction City scored five runs in the top of the 10th to help secure the victory.

Brigade Head Coach Brandon Bochar said the team celebrated with a dog pile on the mound after the game ended. Going to the 10th inning the players were confident they would win. "We all knew in the dugout we weren't going to lose, that we were here to win."

Brigade General Manager Cecil Aska called it a great game. "Showed a lot of heart, took it in extra innings but they kept fighting. They brought the cup back home to us." This is the fifth Cowdin Cup championship in the history of the Brigade.

There will be a gathering hosted by the Brigade at Rathert Field Thursday at 7 p.m. There will be free hot dogs and you can meet the players and see the Cowdin Cup trophy.

(RILEY COUNTY, KS – July 28, 2021) Four individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 have passed away.&nbsp;

A fully vaccinated 98-year-old female tested positive for COVIID-19 on 7/19/2021 at Via Christi Village and passed away on 7/26/2021.&nbsp;

A fully vaccinated 92-year-old female tested positive for COVIID-19 on 7/15/2021 at Via Christi Village and passed away on 7/25/2021.

A fully vaccinated 75-year-old male tested positive for COVIID-19 on 7/12/2021 at Via Christi Village and passed away on 7/24/2021.

An 89-year-old female tested positive for COVID-19 on 01/27/2021, and she passed away on 6/1/2021. COVID was a contributing factor, and records indicate she was unvaccinated.

Their deaths bring the total number of COVID-related deaths in the county to 49.&nbsp;

“It is important to note that while we did have individuals who were fully vaccinated pass away this past week, they are exceptions. The majority of vaccine breakthrough cases have mild symptoms, and have not needed to be hospitalized. The deaths underscore the importance of those who are not vaccinated to get vaccinated. It is the unvaccinated who are putting our vulnerable population at risk,” pointed out Riley County Health Department Director Julie Gibbs.&nbsp;

Riley County has identified 146 new positive Coronavirus cases and 102 additional recoveries since the last report on July 21, 2021.&nbsp;

Eleven COVID-positive patients, including two who are fully vaccinated, are currently under care at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. Five unvaccinated patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).&nbsp;

In Riley County, since December, there have been a total of 70 positive cases from&nbsp;<a href="https://gmail.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=95221c46aac4689e49a7c0bfc&amp;id=7c58b83154&amp;e=fd06d17886" target="_blank">variants of concern</a>. A majority of the cases (56) are the Delta Variant.&nbsp;

The CDC guidance updated Tuesday notes that while current research shows fully vaccinated individuals represent a small amount of transmission and, in most cases, are protected from severe illness due to COVID-19, they could potentially still be asymptomatic and spread the virus.

“We are strongly encouraging everyone in Riley County to follow the CDC guidance&nbsp;<a href="https://gmail.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=95221c46aac4689e49a7c0bfc&amp;id=3a9b88905d&amp;e=fd06d17886" target="_blank">updated Tuesday</a>&nbsp;that recommends everyone two and older, even those fully vaccinated, wear masks in indoor public spaces, including K-12 schools, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, especially with the contagious Delta variant in the community,” said Riley County Health Department Director Julie Gibbs.&nbsp; Facebook Live

(RILEY COUNTY, KS – July 28, 2021) Four individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 have passed away.&nbsp;A fully vaccinated 98-year-old female tested positive for COVIID-19 on 7/19/2021 at Via Christi Village and passed away on 7/26/2021.&nbsp;A fully vaccinated 92-year-old female tested positive for COVIID-19 on 7/15/2021 at Via Christi Village and passed away on 7/25/2021.A fully vaccinated 75-year-old male tested positive for COVIID-19 on 7/12/2021 at Via Christi Village and passed away on 7/24/2021.An 89-year-old female tested positive for COVID-19 on 01/27/2021, and she passed away on 6/1/2021. COVID was a contributing factor, and records indicate she was unvaccinated.Their deaths bring the total number of COVID-related deaths in the county to 49.&nbsp;“It is important to note that while we did have individuals who were fully vaccinated pass away this past week, they are exceptions. The majority of vaccine breakthrough cases have mild symptoms, and have not needed to be hospitalized. The deaths underscore the importance of those who are not vaccinated to get vaccinated. It is the unvaccinated who are putting our vulnerable population at risk,” pointed out Riley County Health Department Director Julie Gibbs.&nbsp;Riley County has identified 146 new positive Coronavirus cases and 102 additional recoveries since the last report on July 21, 2021.&nbsp;Eleven COVID-positive patients, including two who are fully vaccinated, are currently under care at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. Five unvaccinated patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).&nbsp;In Riley County, since December, there have been a total of 70 positive cases from&nbsp;<a href="https://gmail.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=95221c46aac4689e49a7c0bfc&amp;id=7c58b83154&amp;e=fd06d17886" target="_blank">variants of concern</a>. 4 deaths and 146 new COVID-19 cases in Riley County

Ellen Westerhaus was recognized by the JC Breakfast Optimist Club with their “Making A Difference For Youth Award” on Wednesday. 

&nbsp;Joe Handlos shared letters of support for Ellen, which contained three focuses. One was that she sets the standard; secondly, she is a protector of the standard and thirdly that Ellen impacts the standard. One of the letters was from Brian Hagemeister, retired educator/former Drama teacher at Junction City High School (JCHS).

Hagemeiser stated that he had worked with Westerhaus for 30 years. Ellen designed, created and sewed costumes for students in all productions and plays since 1992. She was so good at “matching the costume with the characters on stage” he said.

Kay Fisher, who worked with Ellen both at JCHS and on Junction City Little Theater (JCLT) productions wrote in her letter that “every stitch, button and bow had to be in its proper place. Ellen has dedicated many years to JCLT.

Westerhaus has been involved with the Girl Scouts since the 1960s as a leader at all levels of that organization. She has spent 40 years raising funds, maintaining and refurbishing the Girl Scout House in Junction City.

Ellen told club members that the work she does is “an opportunity to stay young by being around young people. When growing up, I was taught to do things for others.”

As the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus continues to become the predominant strain of the virus (over 80% of the cases in July), the CDC has come out with an updated list of recommendations to keep people safe and healthy.

First, the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones is to get vaccinated. Even though we have seen some breakthrough cases, it is a minimal number compared to those vaccinated. In addition, vaccinated people have a lower risk of getting ill, becoming hospitalized, or dying. Vaccination is also key to staying ahead of the virus continuing to change.

Second, data is showing that the Delta variant is much more contagious than the original virus. It spreads twice as easily from person to person; people have higher viral loads, meaning more virus in their body; and people with breakthrough cases of the Delta variant might be infectious and potentially spread the virus to others, in contrast to the first (Alpha) strain. Geary County is currently classified as having a high level of community transmission.

Based on new data and risk of transmission, the CDC recommends that everyone, including fully vaccinated individuals, wear a mask when in public indoor settings to prevent spread of the Delta variant and protect others. They are also recommending masks for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination.

The state monitors the vaccination rates through a program called WebIZ. It is reported in this program whenever anyone gets vaccinated, be it COVID or any other vaccination. However, several entities do not report through this program—the military and the VA, for example. This affects the numbers reported for Geary County. As a result, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment recommended using the CDC website to get an accurate reflection of the county vaccination numbers since everyone, including the VA and military, is required to report their numbers to them. In a review of the data, 45.1% of the total population of Geary County is vaccinated against COVID, while 59.3% of the eligible population, those 12 years of age and older, are fully vaccinated.

If you want to receive your COVID vaccine, the Health Department has all three available: Johnson and Johnson, Moderna, and Pfizer. We offer them on a walk-in basis from 8 to 4:45 Monday through Thursday, 8 to 11:30 on Friday, and closed from 12 to 1.

Health Director releases COVID-19 update

MORRIS COUNTY—Two people died in an accident just after 12:30a.m. Wednesday in Morris County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2001 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling northeast on Dam Road one mile north of Council Grove.

The driver failed to negotiate the curb where the road curves to the left. The motorcycle struck a guard rail. The driver and passenger were ejected.&nbsp;&nbsp;Max Hamilton Byram, 28 and Jordan Patricia Leeann Kelly, 20, both of Council Grove were pronounced dead at the scene and transported to&nbsp;Swayer Funeral Home. 

They were not wearing helmets, according to the KHP. The agency was not sure who was driving the motorcycle.

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Sunset Zoo is preparing for its annual Wine in the Wild event, which allows visitors the luxury of trying a wide variety of wines and hors d'oeuvres while exploring the zoo in a completely new way.&nbsp;The 2021 edition of the event will kick off on Saturday, August 14th with a VIP session at 5:30p.m., and the general session at 7p.m.&nbsp;

Melissa Kirkwood, the Marketing and Development Officer at Sunset Zoo, previewed the event with excitement.&nbsp;

"Wine in the Wild is a fundraiser, it's one of two fundraisers that our 'Friends of Sunset Zoo,' put on each year to benefit Sunset Zoo," said Kirkwood. "The dollars that are raised from the event help with a variety of different needs here, and it's a fun way for people to come together at the zoo and experience wine tastings of all different kinds of wine, some wonderful catered food, and then also music and entertainment."

The annual event brings people together in a unique and exciting atmosphere, allowing a brand new "behind the scenes," type of zoo experience.&nbsp;

"It's imperative that we have fundraisers to benefit the zoo each year, and due to some of what has gone on in this last year, not being able to have those fundraisers has had an impact on the zoo so having the ability to have fundraisers like Wine in the Wild help further our education mission, further our mission of conservation, and really help keep this community asset here in Manhattan," Kirkwood said on the importance of Wine in the Wild.&nbsp;

For those unfamiliar with some aspects of the Wine in the Wild event, various stations will be set up throughout the zoo, each featuring a different wine or finger foods, allowing visitors the chance to sample several new items while also exploring Sunset Zoo "after dark." And don't worry, the event calls for casual attire. Kirkwood says that can be business casual if you'd like, but to keep in mind this will all happen during mid-August in Kansas after all.&nbsp;

Nespors Wine &amp; Spirits has helped to provide a large portion of the wines for the event, but Liquid Art Winery will also be present, offering some of their locally produced wines and ciders. Kirkwood also added that Coca-Cola will be there providing non-alcoholic beverages and waters throughout the evening as well.&nbsp;

"We could not do this event without them," said Kirkwood emphatically, thanking the local businesses that help make the event possible.

One may be curious what the Zoo has been up to over the last year when it has been unable to host events or large crowds due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Kirkwood provided a "sneak peek," at a project that is currently ongoing, that portions of the proceeds from Wine in the Wild will benefit this year.

"We have a variety of animals for you to see," she said. "I wanted to also share that we are under a major construction project called 'Expedition Asia.' It has been a five-plus-year fundraising campaign to build three new exhibits for the zoo. They will feature our Malayan Tigers, our Sloth Bears, and our Amur Leopards. We're about half-way through the construction process right now and we anticipate that those exhibits will be done at the end of October, and then our animals have to have an acclamation time, where they get used to their new home, and then we will have a spring opening of those exhibits!"

Just before 10:30p.m. Tuesday,&nbsp; an 18-year-old man reported four unknown male suspects driving by&nbsp;near the intersection of N. 10th St. and Leavenworth Street in Manhattan in a silver Ford Fusion shot him with a paintball gun striking him in the leg, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

 The suspects were also seen throwing eggs at multiple vehicles in the area.

RDPD: Teen injured in drive-by paint ball shooting

MANHATTAN—One person was injured in an accident just after 12:30p.m. Tuesday in&nbsp;the 2400 block of Claflin Road. in Manhattan. 

A 2015 Kia Forte driven by Nathan George, 19, of Junction City had hit a pedestrian identified as James Baugh, 67, of Olsburg, who was in a wheelchair crossing the street, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

EMS transported Baugh to Via Christi in critical condition and later transported to Stormont Vail in Topeka for further treatment of his injuries.

The hot temperatures will continue through much of the week with a Heat Advisory in effect for much of eastern Kansas until 9 PM Thursday. Heat index values will be 100-110 through Thursday.

Geary County Emergency Management said that it appears a front will move through Friday bringing lower temperatures and chances for rain and storms. Slight chances for rain and storms continue through Sunday.

The hot temperatures will continue through much of the week with a Heat Advisory in effect for much of eastern Kansas until 9 PM Thursday. Heat wave continues for the region

Easter plans to continue commitment to leadership, service&nbsp;

MANHATTAN, Kan. – During a decade-long career in <a href="http://www.kansas4-h.org/" target="_blank">Kansas 4-H Youth Development program</a>, Adelaide Easter has explored 26 project areas, exhibited at her local fair, and held every office in her local club.&nbsp;

So what does the college freshman-to-be have planned now?&nbsp;

“I plan to double major in bakery science and food science, with a double minor in business and leadership,” said Easter, a May graduate of Sacred Heart Junior/Senior High School in Salina, and a member of the Sunny Valley 4-H Club in the Central Kansas Extension District.&nbsp;

Quite ambitious, it seems, but for Easter, her college plans reflect the path she forged as a member of the Kansas 4-H program.&nbsp;

“4-H exposed me to all of these different career pathways and I found that I was really interested in bakery science and food science,” she said.&nbsp;

“Later, when I was older, after going to (local) fairs and conferences where I learned a lot of tips on how to grow as a baker, I went to Discovery Days (held each May on the Kansas State University campus) where I attended a class with a bakery science instructor and got exposed to what bakery science is. Before then, I had no idea that was even a career that you could pursue later in life.”&nbsp;

Easter described herself as “a shy girl” early in her 4-H career. “My mom had to drag me to my first 4-H meetings; I didn’t want anything to do with it,” she said. “But I slowly broke out of my shell and decided I wanted to become a leader.”&nbsp;

“Fast forward to now and I am the state president of the Kansas 4-H Youth Leadership Council have been on my district council and have held all of the offices in my club. I have been a leader in many areas of 4-H.”&nbsp;

Easter will attend Kansas State University in the fall. She said her involvement in 4-H and its historic connection to the university helps to smooth the transition. “I’ve been able to grow a connection with one of the bakery science instructors there, and I just found out that he’s going to be my academic advisor and will help me put together my class schedule.”&nbsp;

“I’ve been able to have a relationship with him because I’ve seen him the last 5 or 6 years at (Discovery Days) classes. He has kids in 4-H, as well, so he knows how much 4-H impacts us as we get older.”&nbsp;

Easter notes her life won’t slow down as she transitions out of the Kansas 4-H program.&nbsp;

“I still plan to be involved in leadership activities in college, as well as citizenship and doing my part of civic engagement in my community,” she said. “And I still want to be involved in music theatre as well as many other projects, because I love all the things I do, whether it is space technology, photography, horticulture or others.&nbsp;

“I love growing in all of these aspects and I still plan to do that as I get older.”&nbsp;

Easter encourages teens to stay involved in 4-H, saying high school is a busy time but – including 4-H – has lasting benefits to develop leadership skills, make connections and explore project areas that can help teens find a career pathway.&nbsp;

The Kansas 4-H program offers&nbsp;<a href="http://www.kansas4-h.org/projects" target="_blank">more than three dozen project areas</a>&nbsp;for youth to participate in. More information on opportunities offered is available at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ksre.k-state.edu/about/statewide-locations.html" target="_blank">local extension offices in Kansas</a>.&nbsp;

This summer marks Easter’s final year in the youth development program, and her last time showing at the county fair.&nbsp;

“I’m very sad that this will be my last fair,” she said, “but I am excited for the next chapter of my life.”&nbsp;

High school grad reflects on Kansas 4-H career 

Construction work on Trooper Drive at Fort Riley will run from Wednesday to Aug. 16th.

Fort Riley issued a social media statement acknowledging the headache this can cause for the community and they are actively planning ways to reduce traffic chokepoints. Leaders at Fort Riley are working within the limitations of funding, weather and time to continue to improve the community. 

From July 28th to Aug 16th Trooper Access Control Point/Gate hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A pilot car will lead two-way traffic from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m.:

Outbound traffic only towards Junction City will be available from 7:30 p.m. overnight through 9:30 a.m. the next day: reopened to two-way traffic.

Construction begins Wednesday on Trooper Drive

Soldiers with the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division cased their unit’s colors once again July 26 as they prepare for a second deployment in support of Atlantic Resolve.

“It is a great privilege to aid in the preservation of peace by showcasing our Army’s ability to project readiness across the globe,” Col. Brian E. McCarthy, 1st ABCT commander said. “This brigade’s legacy of fighting and training alongside our European partners began in the fields of France during World War One. We are proud to uphold our dedication to a strong Europe and once again stand with our allies and partners.”

The 1st ABCT, 1st Infantry Division, will replace the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division as a regionally allocated force in Europe.

Earlier this month, elements of the unit along with over 3000 pieces of equipment arrived in Europe.

USD 475 officials have announced the arrival of the bronze Blue Jay at the new Junction City High School site. It has been moved from its' former location in front of the old high school to a site near the entrance in front of the new school at 1100 Blue Jay Way.

USD Chief Operations Officer David Wild noted that the Bronze Blue Jay is the first of the carry over artifacts to be brought over from the old school.&nbsp;

DICKINSON COUNTY—A Kansas man was injured in an accident just before 10a.m. Tuesday in Dickinson County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1999 Sterling truck driven by&nbsp; Charles Rice, 50, Salina,&nbsp;was westbound on 1400 Avenue just east of Lindy. The truck traveled off the north edge of road into the north ditch and overturned. 

EMS transported Rice to the hospital in Salina. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.

Chamber of Commerce officials hope to tell more about it to the community in the near future, explained Chamber President Mickey Fornaro-Dean. "I can tell you that it is a very unique project. I can tell you that it is getting an awful lot of attention in our community from outside of our community. I'm really excited about being able to roll it out here in&nbsp; the next couple of months." That would involve explaining to the community what the project means and it's potential.

MANHATTAN —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a man for alleged domestic battery involving a child in Manhattan.

Just after 8p.m. Monday, officers filed a report for domestic battery, criminal damage to property, aggravated endangering a child and aggravated domestic battery, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

A 28-year-old woman reported a 28-year-old male suspect strangled and struck her while holding a baby and also damaged an Apple Macbook Air computer. 

The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $1,050. 

Police arrested Brandon Lee Gibson, 28, of Junction City on requested charges of aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery, criminal damage to property and aggravated endangering a child. Gibson is confined in the Riley County Jail on a total bond of $10,000.

RCPD: Man battered woman while she held baby

A 41-year-old woman and BFC LLC&nbsp; reported an unknown suspect&nbsp;shot a gun multiple times hitting an unoccupied house. No injuries were reported. 

The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $7,000.&nbsp;Anyone with information can contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Using the Crime Stoppers service can allow you to remain anonymous and could qualify you for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

&nbsp;The driver failed to stop at the stop sign at U.S. 77.&nbsp; The semi struck a northbound Acura driven by Adam Samuelson, 38, Randolph.&nbsp;

EMS transported Samuelson to Stormont Vail where he died.&nbsp;Peterson was not injured. Samuelson was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
