KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A man who fired shots at employees outside Arrowhead Stadium was arrested Saturday after a daylong standoff.

Kansas City police spokesman Capt. David Jackson said the man arrived at the Truman Sports Complex around 10:30 a.m. Saturday and fired several shots at employees but did not hit anyone. The man was arrested shortly after 6 p.m. on suspicion of several charges related to the shooting.

Jackson said the man pointed guns during the standoff and at some times he placed the guns in his waistband as he moved around a parking lot. Jackson said the man didn’t appear to have any connection to the Kansas City Chiefs or Royals.

During the standoff, some stadium employees took shelter inside the complex.

The Kansas City Royals’ game against the Pittsburgh Pirates was delayed about half an hour because of the standoff but was able to be played after the man was arrested.

The suspect, who police have not identified, is under arrest on requested criminal charges associated with the initial shots fired, according to Kansas City Police.

Normal stadium access and operations continued Saturday evening. The start of the game between the Royals and Pirates was delayed for approximately 30 minutes.

Update: Gunman arrested after standoff outside Arrowhead stadium

KANSAS CITY– A Kansas City man has been charged in federal court with drug trafficking and illegally possessing firearms after law enforcement officers found firearms and large quantities of illegal drugs in his vehicle at the Argosy Casino, according to the United State's Attorney.

Dominick A. Campos, 40, was charged in a two-count complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Kansas City on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The federal criminal complaint charges Campos with one count of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and one count of possessing firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking.

According to an affidavit filed in support of the federal criminal complaint, law enforcement identified Campos during an investigation into drug sales in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Campos was arrested at the Argosy Casino on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Following his arrest, Campos told officers he had been selling approximately one kilogram of methamphetamine each week since April 2020. When officers searched Campos’s car, they found a Zastava Serbian AK-47-style 7.62x39mm rifle, a Hi-Point .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun, nearly 4.5 kilograms of methamphetamine, approximately 3.7 kilograms of marijuana, &nbsp;276 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, 294 1100mg THC cartridges of LA Kush, 385 grams of suspected marijuana wax, 65 500mg THC edibles, 735 suspected acetaminophen/hydrocodone pills, 52 unknown pills, two notebooks that contained records of suspected drug transactions, drug paraphernalia, and $40,240.

The charges contained in this complaint are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty&nbsp;

Police find meth, high powered weapons in car at KC casino

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a report of alleged road rage asked the public for help to identify a suspect.

On Friday, Wichita Police reported they had identified the suspect in an&nbsp; aggravated assault with a firearm during a road rage incident that occurred on August 25.

Update: Police ask for help to ID alleged Kan. road rage suspect

On September 9th Nathaniel Roderick Holmes, AKA Nook, was taken into custody in Radcliff Kentucky on a Geary County warrant for two counts of First-Degree Murder. Holmes was the second suspect involved in the double homicide of Dylan Spencer and Aaron Villarreal on May 7th at 805 W. 11th St. The other suspect, Dontavion Wright is currently in custody in Geary County.

Holmes is being held at the Hardin County Kentucky Jail awaiting extradition back to Geary County. His bond is set at two million dollars.

The JCPD thanked the Western Kentucky Regional Fugitive Task Force as well as the Kansas Fugitive Apprehension Task Force, both with the United States Marshal Service, for their tireless work on this apprehension.

Police report an arrest in a double homicide case

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — A former southwestern Missouri high school teacher has been sentenced to six years in prison on a federal child porn charge.

Matthew McCroskey, 51, was sentenced Wednesday. Prosecutors said McCroskey admitted to searching out and downloading child pornography from the internet. Investigators found at least 96 images and one video of child pornography on McCroskey’s computer.

Evidence was also presented at his sentencing that McCroskey set up a hidden camera and secretly recorded young women as they used the bathroom at his house.

McCroskey had worked at Logan-Rogersville schools starting in 2004, teaching English and sponsoring the yearbook. He was fired following his arrest in January 2019.

At his sentencing, a judge ordered McCroskey's sentence credited for the two years he has already served in jail awaiting trial and sentencing. He also was ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution ot one of the child pornography victims.

Former teacher had secret camera in his bathroom

MANHATTAN, KAN. –&nbsp;Law enforcement authorities are investigating a child sex crime and have made an arrest.

Just after 3p.m. Wednesday, officers filed a report for rape, aggravated criminal sodomy, and aggravated indecent liberties with a child in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report. 

The report lists a 15-year-old girl as the victim and a 67-year-old man known to her as the suspect.

Just after 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, police arrested Alan Ingwersen, 67, Manhattan, on requested charges that include three counts of rape, six counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, and ten counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. Ingwersen was issued a total bond of $250,000.00 and is no longer in custody, according to the RCPD.

RPCD: 67-year-old Manhattan man accused of child rape 

HUTCHINSON —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon wanted on a warrant who was arrested Wednesday.

&nbsp;Blake Kayden Bryant, 22, Hutchinson, allegedly threatened a 48-year-old man with a knife and attempted to steal his vehicle in the 1600 block of East 17th Avenue in Hutchinson Tuesday evening, according to police.&nbsp;

Authorities found him after a warrant was issued for his arrest on Wednesday.

Brant is being held on requested charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary. He also faces possible charges of aggravated arson and criminal damage&nbsp; from earlier incidents Tuesday evening.

Bryant has previous convictions for robbery and aggravated robbery, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections. He is being held on a bond of $143,000.

Kansas felon jailed for alleged threat with knife

TOPEKA–Police continue to search for clues in the the July 14 murder of a Kansas woman and her 13-year-old daughter.

An anonymous donor gave Shawnee County Crime Stoppers $20,000 to be used as an enhanced reward for information leading to an arrest in the double homicide.

Just before 2a.m. July 14, police were dispatched to a home in the 500 block of SW 5th Street in Topeka on a report of a shooting, according to Lt. Kelvin Johnson.

 Upon arrival, officers located two deceased victims inside a residence with apparent gunshot wounds. They were later identified as Crystal D. Andrews, 37, and her daughter Mercedes M. Holford, 13 of Topeka. 

In addition to the $20,000 enhanced reward, Crime Stoppers is offering an additional $2,000, totaling a $22,000 reward offer, according to police spokesperson Gretchen Spiker.

Search continues in murder of Kan. woman, 13-year-old daughter

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an accidental shooting and have made an arrest.

Just after 4p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a reported shooting at a home in the 700 block of South Sycamore in Wichita, according to Captain Jason Stephens.

At the scene, first responders found 18-year-old Jeremy Retana dead from a gunshot wound to his head.

Investigators learned that a 21-year-old man identified as Christian Concha had shown his gun to a 10-year-old and a 9-year-old who were visiting the home. Concha let each child handle the gun and then he left it loaded and unattended as he left to go to a convenience store along with a woman who was supposed to be baby sitting the boys.

While Concha and the woman were away, the 9-year-old picked up the gun and accidentally discharged it, fatally injuring Retana, according to Stephens.

Police arrested Concha and <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20053404">booked him into jail</a> on requested charges of felony murder and aggravated child endangerment.

"The shooter was a 9-year-old child who cannot be held culpable for a criminal offense," said Stephens.&nbsp;&nbsp;"There is a statute known as felony murder, which can be charged when an individual commits an underlying, inherently dangerous offense and in this case, that offense is aggravated child endangerment by allowing the children to have access to this firearm intentionally," he said.

The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney.

Gun owner jailed after Kan. boy accidentally kills teen

MONTGOMERY COUNTY–&nbsp;&nbsp;The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Independence Police Department announced Wednesday that a Governor’s reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the disappearance and suspected murder of 37-year-old Detreck Foster of Independence, Kan., according to a media release from the KBI.

Governor Laura Kelly recently signed an executive order offering the $5,000 reward.

Detreck Foster was reported missing on May 12. He was last seen around April 12 in Independence. KBI agents and detectives from the Independence Police Department are conducting the case as a homicide based upon findings during the investigation into Foster’s disappearance.

Foster was a black male, 5-foot-9 inches tall, who weighed approximately 190 pounds. He had black hair and brown eyes.

Just after 9p.m. Monday, a Deputy from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office preformed a traffic stop on a blue Ford Explorer sport for illegal tags, according to Sheriff Ron Wade.

 After a short investigation, the driver identified as Adam Laney 44, of Coffeyville was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of anabolic steroids as well as other traffic offenses. Formal charges will be decided by the Montgomery County Attorney’s Office.

&nbsp;“There is no such thing as a routine traffic stop," said Wade. "This deputy recognized an illegal tag and this small detail led to the removal a large quantity of drugs off the street.”

Kan. deputy finds felon driving SUV with illegal tags

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect for alleged domestic violence.

Just after 8 a.m. Monday, a 38-year-old woman contacted officers at the Patrol West Police station in Wichita. She had visible injuries and reported a domestic violence situation involving 39-year-old Christopher Tucker, according to officer Charley Davidson.

Investigators learned&nbsp; the woman arrived home from work at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Sunday. Tucker was hiding in her garage, got into her vehicle, strangled her, and forced her to drive to a location in northeast Wichita.&nbsp;

Tucker then forced her back to her residence, where he refused to let her leave and then forced her to drive to a residence in the 600 block of South Elizabeth in Wichita where he bound her and still refused to let her leave.&nbsp; 

On Monday morning, Tucker cut her loose, and she was able to escape and run from the home.

The investigation also revealed the woman had been awarded custody of their 10-year-old son.&nbsp; Police also learned Tucker was hiding the boy's location.

 Through diligent investigation, officers located the boy along with Tucker at a residence in the 1700 block of West University.&nbsp; Officers arrested Tucker without incident. He is being held&nbsp;on requested charges of attempted murder, three counts of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, aggravated domestic battery, threats, aggravated burglary, violation of a protection from abuse order, aggravated interference with parental custody, and outstanding warrants, according to Davidson.

The boy was placed into the custody of his mother.

The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.&nbsp;

Kan. man jailed for alleged violent attack, hiding 10-year-old son

RILEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a report of alleged road rage.

Just before 11p.m. Monday, police filed a report for aggravated assault and attempted aggravated battery near the intersection of Tuttle Creek Boulevard and McCall Road in Manhattan, according to the RCPD activity report. 

A 21-year-old female, a 20-year-old male and a 27-year-old male reported a firearm was brandished after a vehicle swerved at a motorcycle rider.&nbsp;

Just after 3a.m. Sunday, a sheriff's deputy&nbsp;stopped a vehicle near 150th and W. Road in eastern Jackson County for a traffic infraction, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

 The investigation into the stop led to the arrest of the driver, Roberto Alejandro Reynosa-Silva, 27, of Topeka, on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine, of drug paraphernalia, possession of a stolen firearm and interference with law enforcement.

 A quantity of a substance believed to be methamphetamine and two guns were located in the vehicle, one of which had been reported stolen from Lawrence.

Sheriff: Kansas man caught with drugs, stolen handgun

RILEY COUNTY— Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas felon on new charges after a Sunday arrest.

Just before 12:30a.m. Sunday, Riley County Police Department Officers came in contact with Joshua Stepney, 31, Manhattan in the 1200 block of Moro Street, according to a media release from RCPD.

Stepney had an active arrest warrant through the Riley County District Court for Probation Violation. 

&nbsp;Stepney physically resisted the officers when they attempted to arrest him. RCPD Officers placed Stepney’s arms behind his back and utilized a wrist lock technique as he continued to resist being placed in handcuffs. 

The wrist lock was released once Stepney was placed in handcuffs. After his arrest, Stepney appeared to experience a medical emergency. Manhattan Fire Department and Riley County EMS were dispatched to the scene and provided medical assistance. 

RCPD officers closely monitored Stepney until medical responders arrived on scene. Stepney was transported by ambulance to Via Christi and later released. 

Stepney was transported to the Riley County Jail. Stepney was arrested on requested charges of Interference with law enforcement officers and a parole violation. He is being held on a bond of $8,000.00 causing him to remain confined at the time of this release.

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect in connection with stolen vehicles.

Just after 4p.m. Thursday, police were following up on report of a stolen 2020 Ford Raptor, according to Captain Kevin Kochenderfer.

Officers learned of the location of the vehicle which led them to&nbsp;Wichita Collision and Dent Center in the 400 Block of South Washington Street.

At the business contacted Jonathan Halstead, 37, Derby, and executed a search warrant. They found the stolen Ford Raptor along with a stolen 2002 Acura. Police also seized a stolen handgun, stolen license plates, narcotics edibles and cash.

They also arrested Halstead without incident on requested charges of possession of stolen property worth more than $25,000 and making false information, according to Kochenderfer.

The Kansas Highway Patrol also participated in this investigation.

SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating three suspects following the completion of a search warrant in Shawnee County.

On Sept. 3, the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Task Force, consisting of the Topeka Police Department Narcotics Unit and Rossville Police Department, served a narcotic search warrant in the 3300 block of SE Girard Street, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

Officers located three individuals and initially detained them for the investigation.

Following the discovery of narcotics and firearms, officers&nbsp; arrested William C. O’Handlen, 51; Stella M. Hillis, 46, of&nbsp; Walter U. O’Handlen, 51, all of Topeka were arrested and booked them into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections.

William O’Handlen was booked on requested charged that include possession of methamphetamine, criminal use of a weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia. Hillis and Walter O’Handlen were both booked on requested charged of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kan. twins arrested after Drug Task Force investigation

FINNEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect for alleged assault of a police officer.

Just after 3 a.m. Friday, police were at the 900 block of Safford Avenue in Garden City investigating a reckless driver who fled from a vehicle, according to officer Lana Urteaga.

While at the scene, officers observed a man identified as Braulio Guy Ortiz, 31, Garden City, who was agitated and intoxicated. He was carrying a Roman Candle style firework and yelled obscenities at the officers.

Ortiz went inside his residence and returned with a blow torch and attempted to light the firework. He allegedly pointed the firework at one of the officers and approached the officer. Ortiz refused to listen to instructions to drop the firework.

Police arrested Ortiz on requested charges of Aggravated Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer. The case is under review by the Finney County Attorney.

SW Kansas man threatens officer with firework

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a homicide and have made a second arrest.

On Wednesday, <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20055987">police arrested Ariana Cook</a>, 29, Wichita, in connection with the investigation after the body of Roy Hayden was found in a vehicle on July 6 in 1500 Block of North Broadway in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson.

Cook made her first court appearance in the case Thursday, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office and is charged with first degree murder and aggravated kidnapping.

On Tuesday, Matthew Small, 35, made his first court appearance and was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon in connection with Hayden's death, according to the district attorney's office.

More arrests are possible in the case, according to Davidson.

On July 6, police responded to the 1500 Block of North Broadway in Wichita where they found Hayden's body in a vehicle, according to officer Charley Davidson.

Small is being held on a <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20025626">bond of $250,000</a> and is due back in court September 17, according to the district attorney's office.

During a search of the residence, methamphetamine, items of illegal drug paraphernalia, and items of controlled substance were located. 

Martin Martinez, age 36; Morgan Olliff, age 22 and Joy Little (AKA Joy Wetig), age 39, were arrested on requested charges of distribution of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of controlled substance, and no drug tax stamp.

Martinez, Olliff and Littlewere all transported to the Barton County Detention Center and booked in lieu of bond.

KC Police: Man found fatally shot in burning vehicle

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) — One councilman has come under fire for wearing blackface to a Halloween party and another from the same city has apologized in a Facebook post for costumes in which he dressed as a slave owner one year and as someone who was mentally disabled the next.

St. Joseph City Councilman Brian Myers issued the apology Wednesday. Myers had said days earlier that Councilman Kent “Spanky” O’Dell owed the public an apology when a picture resurfaced of O’Dell dressed as Aunt Jemima in blackface at a Halloween party in 2012.

O’Dell, who also is the deputy mayor, posted a statement on Facebook that has since been deleted in which he said he “didn’t have a racist bone” in his body.

“I had Halloween parties every year and 8 years ago I chose to go as the character Aunt Jemima,” O’Dell’s post said. “I sure would have never done this knowing I was offending anyone and especially my African-American friends.”

O’Dell didn’t immediately return a phone message from The Associated Press.

Myers later made his own post, which was visible only to his Facebook friends, including a News-Press reporter.

“I’m not perfect either,” Myers wrote. “And for me to state that someone owes the community an apology for an offensive Halloween costume (no matter how many years ago it was), without publicly recognizing and acknowledging my own insensitive actions years ago would make me a huge hypocrite.”

Myers told The Associated Press that he and a Black friend attended a party nearly a decade ago where his friend dressed like a slave and he dressed as Kentucky Fried Chicken founder Col. Harland Sanders. The following year, he wore a bike helmet and pretended he had been in a crash, slurring his speech, he said.

“I think an apology for my behavior is long overdue and that is why I made that post,” Myers told the AP. “Things of this nature have always been wrong. Sometimes it takes seeing things through the eyes of others to realize just how ignorant you are when you are younger.”

St. Joseph Mayor Bill McMurray said the only recourse for such behavior was for voters to recall council members from office.

(AP) — One councilman has come under fire for wearing blackface to a Halloween party and another from the same city has apologized in a Facebook post for costumes in which he dressed as a slave owner one year and as someone who was mentally disabled the next.St. Joseph City Councilman Brian Myers issued the apology Wednesday. Myers had said days earlier that Councilman Kent “Spanky” O’Dell owed the public an apology when a picture resurfaced of O’Dell dressed as Aunt Jemima in blackface at a Halloween party in 2012.O’Dell, who also is the deputy mayor, posted a statement on Facebook that has since been deleted in which he said he “didn’t have a racist bone” in his body.“I had Halloween parties every year and 8 years ago I chose to go as the character Aunt Jemima,” O’Dell’s post said. “I sure would have never done this knowing I was offending anyone and especially my African-American friends.”O’Dell didn’t immediately return a phone message from The Associated Press.Myers later made his own post, which was visible only to his Facebook friends, including a News-Press reporter.“I’m not perfect either,” Myers wrote. “And for me to state that someone owes the community an apology for an offensive Halloween costume (no matter how many years ago it was), without publicly recognizing and acknowledging my own insensitive actions years ago would make me a huge hypocrite.”Myers told The Associated Press that he and a Black friend attended a party nearly a decade ago where his friend dressed like a slave and he dressed as Kentucky Fried Chicken founder Col. Harland Sanders. The following year, he wore a bike helmet and pretended he had been in a crash, slurring his speech, he said.“I think an apology for my behavior is long overdue and that is why I made that post,” Myers told the AP. “Things of this nature have always been wrong. Sometimes it takes seeing things through the eyes of others to realize just how ignorant you are when you are younger.”St. Joseph Mayor Bill McMurray said the only recourse for such behavior was for voters to recall council members from office.

2 city councilmen answer for racist Halloween costumes

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal hit and run and asking the public for help with information.

Just before 9p.m. Wednesday, police responded to an injury, hit and run accident at 27th and Arkansas in Wichita, according to Captain Brent Allred.

At the scene, first responders located 56-year-old Harold Long of Wichita in the street unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Allred.

Investigators determined Long was walking east across Arkansas Street when a southbound black or dark colored Chevy Tahoe him him and left the scene.

The vehicle probably has some front end damage, according to Allred.

This is the third hit and run crash in Wichita this week. Investigators identified and have spoken to the driver of a 1993 Chevy van that struck a woman at 21st and Wellington on August 31, according to Allred. Police have not made an arrest.

Police are also continue to investigating the hit and run that occurred August 2 at 900 West 29th Street South in Wichita, according to Allred. Police are asking that anyone that may have information on these incidents or who where in the areas contact authorities.

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a hit and run accident that sent a woman to a hospital with critical injuries.

Just after 8:30 p.m. Monday, police responded to a hit and run involving a pedestrian at 21st&nbsp;and Wellington in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson.

Upon arrival, officers located a 54-year-old woman in the roadway in critical condition.&nbsp; EMS transported her to an area hospital for medical treatment and and she remains hospitalized, according to Davidson.

The investigation revealed a white 1993 Chevy Van was traveling east on 21st&nbsp;Street North and struck the woman who was crossing 21st&nbsp;on Wellington from the north to the south.&nbsp; The driver then fled the scene.

Officers later located the van unoccupied at 13th&nbsp;and Waco in the parking lot of business.

Police ID man who died in Wichita's 3rd hit and run this week

SHAWNEE COUNTY – Law enforcement authorities are investigating several suspects arrested following a traffic stop of a reported stolen pickup.

Just before 5:30 p.m. Monday, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a black 2004 Chevrolet Silverado in the 1700 block of South Kansas Avenue in Topeka, according to Deputy Abigail Christian.

 During the investigation, deputies located narcotics inside the vehicle and the vehicle was determined to be stolen through the Topeka Police Department

Two occupants were placed into custody and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. The driver, Brandon L. Taylor, 26, Topeka, was booked on multiple warrants and requested charge of&nbsp; possession of stolen property and multiple drug and traffic charges. 

A passenger, Elizabeth G. Perry, 25, Topeka, was arrested by the Topeka Police Department on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
