MORRIS COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities searching for a drug suspect have made an arrest.

Just after 11p.m. Friday, authorities arrested Colton&nbsp;Brady after a search warrant was executed at #42 Pioneer Village, according to Council Grove Police. On Wednesday, Brady ran from a domestic disturbance in the 200 Block of North Union Street.

He is being held on requested charges of Felony interference with Law Enforcement-Possession of fentanyl, Possession of methamphetamine, Possession of marijuana, Possession of drug paraphernalia and an Outstanding Felony Warrant.

Officers also arrested Morgan Ross, of Council Grove on requested charges of Felony interference with Law Enforcement, Introducing contraband into a correctional facility, Possession of methamphetamine and Possession of marijuana.

COUNCIL GROVE - On Wednesday, March 8th, around 8:00 p.m. the Council Grove Police Department responded to the 200 block of North Union Street on the report of a domestic disturbance.

Colton Brady ran from the scene on 825 Road, north of Council Grove and is wanted for questioning in regards to&nbsp; Interference with Law Enforcement,  Possession of Fentanyl,  and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Additionally, a felony warrant has been issued for Brady, who is known to be armed.

If you see Brady you are asked to&nbsp;call 911 immediately. If you have any information regarding his whereabouts, please call the Morris County Sheriff's Office at (620) 767-6310.

Police capture drug suspect who ran from domestic disturbance

TOPEKA – Preliminary estimates reported by the Labor Market Information Services division of the Kansas Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics show a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 2.9% in January. This is unchanged from 2.9% in December and an increase from 2.5% in January 2022.

The jobless rates across northeast Kansas were up, with County County rising from 3.5percent in December to 4 percent in January. The rate in Wabaunsee County jumped from 2.2 percent in December to 3 percent.&nbsp; Riley County saw a slight increase from 2.6 to 2.8 percent.

Seasonally adjusted job estimates for Kansas indicate total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 8,500 from December. Total nonfarm includes private sector and government employers. Private sector jobs increased by 4,400 over the month, while government increased by 4,100.

“Annual estimates indicate that Kansas employers added 38,300 private sector jobs in 2022, a growth rate of 3.4%,” said Labor Economist Emilie Doerksen. “This strong growth continued in January 2023, with preliminary estimates for the private sector increasing by 4,400 jobs over the month.”

Since January 2022 Kansas’ seasonally adjusted total nonfarm jobs have increased by 48,900. This change is due to an increase of 47,100 private sector jobs and an increase of 1,800 government jobs.

“Bling.” My daughters would say that this term refers to fun, shiny jewelry.&nbsp;

Today we’ll meet a remarkable young woman entrepreneur who has built a business around providing fashionable bling for women. She is not only overcoming the challenges of business, she has found that doing so is helping her overcome the challenges of health and life itself.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Nicole Hedges-Campos is the founder of Bling Glamour, a clothing and fashion accessory business. She grew up in the rural community of Scott City, population 4,113 people. Now, that’s rural.&nbsp;

Hedges-Campos attended Kansas State University and joined a sorority. After college, she moved to Las Vegas with two sorority sisters. She was working in a marketing position when an unknown health disorder popped up.&nbsp;

“I got really sick,” she said. On one occasion, she passed out on an airplane. No one could identify the cause. Ultimately she lost her driver’s license and moved back with her parents in Scott City.&nbsp;

“We were going to doctors all over the country, trying to figure out what was wrong,” Hedges-Campos said. Finally a physician at the Cleveland Clinic identified that she had a connective tissue disease, and prescribed treatment.&nbsp;

Back home, Hedges-Campos was cleaning rooms at her parent’s bed and breakfast.&nbsp;&nbsp;She also started selling purses from her basement.&nbsp;

Her eye for fashion proved successful, as customers became very interested in the items she was offering. Hedges-Campos also met and married Mark, a local teacher and coach.&nbsp;

Hedges-Campos decided to open a shop in downtown Scott City. She named it Bling Glamour. The shop started selling handbags and accessories, and expanded its product lines over time to include clothing and jewelry.&nbsp;

“It was a hit,” she said. Not only did the business grow, it seemed to give her a purpose in her recovery. “Bling got me back on my feet. God put this in my heart, and I started getting stronger.”&nbsp;

It went so well that Nicole decided to open a second store in Garden City. “That store went crazy,” she said. A third store opened in Manhattan.&nbsp;

Bling Glamour has grown so much that Mark has joined the business, along with Nicole’s parents. In addition to its online presence, Bling Glamour now has 26 stores in Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri, with another on the way.&nbsp;

There have been challenges. At one point, their distribution center was lost to fire. On another, the roof collapsed on their store in Hays.&nbsp;

“It’s been a journey, and a lot of work,” Hedges-Campos said. “God has closed doors in our face, and He has opened them. We relied on our faith to get us through. We feel we are meant to do this.”&nbsp;

Hedges-Campos has especially enjoyed mentoring young women who have joined the company. “We’ve helped encourage some incredible leaders who are working really hard. I’ve loved watching other women find opportunity, find strength, and be leaders.”&nbsp;

Bling Glamour can outfit a customer from head to toe – literally. The company offers items from hats to shoes, with apparel, jewelry and other accessories in between.&nbsp;&nbsp;Kendra Scott jewelry is a popular feature. The store stays very current.&nbsp;&nbsp;“We buy weekly,” Hedges-Campos said.&nbsp;

Through its online site, Bling Glamour is shipping items across the nation and beyond.&nbsp;&nbsp;“We just had an order from Guam,” Hedges-Campos said.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

“We cater to everybody. This is not only for young women. A grandmother can shop with her granddaughter, and each one can find something. It’s like coming into the store to play dress-up.”&nbsp;

She adds: “I want people to feel better about themselves after they come in. I tell my staff, ‘Love people.’”&nbsp;

She is not only overcoming the challenges of business, she has found that doing so is helping her overcome the challenges of health and life itself.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Nicole Hedges-Campos is the founder of Bling Glamour, a clothing and fashion accessory business. She grew up in the rural community of Scott City, population 4,113 people. Now, that’s rural.&nbsp;Hedges-Campos attended Kansas State University and joined a sorority. After college, she moved to Las Vegas with two sorority sisters. She was working in a marketing position when an unknown health disorder popped up.&nbsp;“I got really sick,” she said. On one occasion, she passed out on an airplane. No one could identify the cause. Ultimately she lost her driver’s license and moved back with her parents in Scott City.&nbsp;“We were going to doctors all over the country, trying to figure out what was wrong,” Hedges-Campos said. NWS: Another round of rain likely on Saturday for Junction City area

MANHATTAN — The director of tourism in Kansas says that many of the state’s communities are in a good position to capitalize on trends that have emerged since the COVID-19 pandemic.&nbsp;

Bridgette Jobe said that while some of the trends actually began before the pandemic, they were heightened as Americans began changing the way they travel, stay and spend.&nbsp;

“We know that travelers are looking for simplicity; they’re getting back to their roots and visiting friends and family,” Jobe said. “That’s always been something in Kansas that has been big for us. But people are also looking for simpler ways to travel. They want itineraries that are already made. They don’t want to think hard about what they are going to do when they come to Kansas.”&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jobe was the featured speaker during the March 3&nbsp;<a href="http://www.ksre.k-state.edu/community/business/entrepreneurship">First Friday e-Call</a>, a monthly online series hosted by K-State Research and Extension that helps to nurture small businesses and inspire entrepreneurship in Kansas. The online discussions, which routinely host dozens of Kansas citizens from the public and private sectors, are available free each month.&nbsp;

Jobe cited data indicating that some of the tourism trends in Kansas currently include simplicity, willingness to explore, outdoor activities and non-traditional lodging.&nbsp;

“We also know that more people are willing to drive than before,” she said. “And we’ve always been a drive state. That is playing to our advantage now that people are much more willing to drive to a destination.”&nbsp;

In 2021, studies indicate Kansas attracted 33.7 million annual visitors who spent approximately $7 billion in the state. Jobe said tourism is responsible for 60,300 direct job, and 24,200 indirect jobs. In 2021, the state collected $1.3B in government revenues from visitor spending, visitor-supported jobs and business sales.&nbsp;

“People often ask how this affects them directly,” Jobe said. “Each household in Kansas would have to be taxed an additional $613 annually to replace the taxes generated by visitor activity.”&nbsp;

Jobe said the Kansas Tourism office – which is affiliated with the Kansas Department of Commerce – gathers annual data on visitors to the state.&nbsp;

“We’re always wanting to find out where our visitors are coming from, what they’re doing when they get here, how much they’re spending and what their perception are of our state,” she said.&nbsp;

Then, she said, the data collected is broken down by every Kansas region and county, and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.travelks.com/travel-industry/research-and-reports">reported online</a>.&nbsp;

Jobe added that the Kansas Tourism office has two grant programs available to the state’s communities:

RILEY COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating an alleged violent incident at a middle school in Manhattan.

Just after 11:15a.m. Wednesday, officers filed a report for battery and criminal damage to property at Susan B. Anthony Middle School,&nbsp;2501 Browning Avenue in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department activity report.

&nbsp;A 33-year-old man, a 54-year-old woman and USD 383 reported an 11-year-old boy battered the two adults and broke an interior window of the building with a metal chair. 

The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $500.

Geary County GOP announces 'Meet and Greet'

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Eastern Kansas Congressman Jake LaTurner has seen a big difference between his second term in Congress compared with his first term in Washington.

LaTurner, a Republican, found himself in the minority his freshman year. Now in his second term, LaTurner enjoys the benefits of being in the majority.

“Being in the majority in the House is night and day difference between being in the minority,” LaTurner tells St. Joseph Post. “The Republicans are setting the agenda and we aren’t just talking about the things that we talked about during the election, we’re actually delivering.”

LaTurner claims House Republicans have had success cutting the money for the Biden administration’s plan to hire an additional 87,000 IRS agents, ending the coronavirus pandemic emergency, and supporting domestic energy production.

LaTurner returns to serve on the House Oversight Committee and got his wish to serve on the Appropriations Committee.

“I think those are two great committees to represent the people of the Kansas 2nd Congressional District,” according to LaTurner. “But, the bottom line here is making sure that we don’t have one-party rule in Washington, D.C. has been a good thing for the American people.”

LaTurner says the Republican-led Oversight Committee will play a watchdog role over President Biden, a Democrat, adding the committee can provide oversight without turning it into a witch hunt.

“When you find the same party in power in the White House and the House of Representatives, you don’t get good quality oversight,” LaTurner says. “The Republicans have been guilty of this in the past as well.”

LaTurner says an area that needs oversight is the money being sent to Ukraine in its war with Russia. LaTurner says the United States needs to join with the West to oppose Russian President Vladimir Putin, but Ukraine must be accountable for the money it receives, a total of more than $100 billion.

LaTurner got his wish:&nbsp; he has been appointed to the House Appropriations Committee. LaTurner, who served as Kansas state Treasurer prior to being elected to Congress, had requested a seat on Appropriations.

“Appropriations decides where the money is spent at the federal level. We all know $32 trillion in debt is unsustainable,” LaTurner says.

The federal debt, according to the Treasury Department, is $31.64 trillion.

LaTurner says Congress must rein in spending.

LaTurner has been assigned to two subcommittees on the House Appropriations Committee:&nbsp; the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Subcommittee as well as the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Subcommittee.

Contractors are preparing to survey an area near the southwest boundary of Fort Riley and along the Republican River to continue munitions clean-up efforts. This week, crews will begin clearing vegetation, which may include burning designated areas. Efforts to locate and dispose of munitions and explosives of concern from the Camp Forsyth Landfill Area 2 munitions response site will follow.

A munitions response site (MRS) is a specific location that is known to require munitions removal or other response due to the presence of known or suspected munitions and explosives of concern, such as unexploded ordnance, discarded military munitions, or munitions components, like TNT.

The Camp Forsyth MRS encompasses 123 acres and lies along the southwestern boundary of Fort Riley and extends into the Republican River, the Republican Flats floodplain and Breakneck Creek.

During this work, the JC River Walk Trail, south of Fort Riley’s Trooper Gate, along the Republican River will be closed as needed.

Clearing operations will continue through the spring, with the search phase set to begin after that. If crews come across munitions of concern, they will either remove them or, if not safe to move, detonate the item in place. Appropriate safety precautions will be in place at all times and the public will kept away from the search areas. The full project should be completed by late fall.

The Junction City Blue Jays boys basketball team won an invite to the Kansas State High School Activities Association Boys Class 6A State Basketball Championship for the first time in 22 years.

The Blue Jays, the No. 8 seed of the tourney, faced off against the Wichita Heights High School Falcons, the No. 1 seed, at Wichita State University's Koch Arena Wednesday night.

Junction City kept the game fairly tight during the first half, going into the locker room at halftime only down by 4, on the power of a trio of 3-point baskets by Jackson Austin.

The Falcons' athleticism, however, was simply too much to handle in the second half as the Blue Jays were defeated 67-44.

Clay Center smoothie bar's second location to open in Aggieville

Everyone knows that feeling you get when something special is about to happen, the anticipation, excitement, tingle, the thrill. Now multiply that one hundred times, and you might understand what happens to junior cattle exhibitors as they walk into the Grand Drive of the Aggieville Showdown.

"I get goosebumps just thinking about last year's Grand Drive," McKenna Richardson said as she enthusiastically recalled the 2022 Aggieville Showdown. As the ramp of her cattle trailer dropped, Richardson, from Eureka, Kansas, wasn't mentally prepared for the Showdown experience and walking her Simmental heifer through the crowd to the show ring in the heart of Aggieville, Manhattan, Kansas. For someone who shows at major shows and junior national, that's a big statement.

Not only is the Aggieville Showdown location distinctive, but more importantly, the crowd! With an ax-throwing venue on one side and a bistro on the other, patrons from the eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, and bars, many of whom have never been to a cattle show, surround the show ring on Moro Street. Last year over 1,000 people watched the Grand Drive for prospect steers and breeding heifers.

The philosophy of educating non-agriculture people about the cattle industry was the driving force behind the development of the Aggieville Showdown by Founder and Executive Director Christian Calliham.

For people whose only knowledge of the cattle industry is they like their steak medium rare, the Showdown is a unique opportunity to witness the dedication and hard work of livestock exhibitors and learn about the cattle industry.

Richardson said that the crowd recognizes the significance of what is happening in the show ring. She laughed, recalling her dad felt a bit like a celebrity when people realized his daughter was showing and named reserve champion.

Now gearing up for the third show on April 1, the Aggieville Showdown brings exhibitors ages 8 through 25 from across the country to the Riley County Fairgrounds. The show for prospect steers, breeding heifers, and showmanship begins at 9:30 AM, and division winners travel to downtown Aggieville for the ultimate Grand Drive experience that evening.

With over $7500 in cash prizes, the Grand Drive is the marquee event, but the "Ville is alive with other activities as part of the Showdown. A western fashion show by Vanderbilt's, live music, vendors, and even an after-party at the Yard Bar.

Live interviews at the Drive's conclusion allow the exhibitors of the champion animals and the premier showman to tell "their story" about their experience at the Showdown.

While Lauren Fredrick from Hutchinson, Kansas, wasn't in the Grand Drive, she was on stage as the premier showman, besting 105 other exhibitors from seven states. Fredrick was excited to share how the cattle industry has made her who she is today.

"I've never been a shy person and being able to stand up on stage and talk about something I am so passionate about is truly special.”

She acknowledged the Aggieville Showdown is quickly becoming a prestigious show, and younger exhibitors may be intimidated to exhibit. The articulate 21-year-old is winding up her show career and said the Aggieville Showdown is an exceptional opportunity for all cattle exhibitors, and younger exhibitors must "put themselves out there." While they might not make it to the Drive, they can excel at showmanship or just come to the Drive and experience the excitement of the show ring and keep working to be in the Drive.

"Knowing that younger exhibitors hear me, someone not much older than them, be able to have a platform to share about our industry and what it does for us is a cool experience. There are no other shows but the Aggieville Showdown where you can do that."

Richardson and Fredrick said it was hard to describe the Aggieville Showdown experience. They both acknowledged the only way to understand how unique the Aggieville Showdown truly is - is to be there.

Be” for a new generation. </a>Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth, Army

Grinston made the announcement during a much-anticipated launch event at
 the National Press Club. The brand and its accompanying campaign 
spotlight the countless opportunities the Army provides youth to explore
 their passions, build community and become the best versions of 
themselves.

"At a time when political, economic and social factors are 
changing how young Americans view the world, the new Army brand 
illustrates how service in the Army is grounded in passion and purpose,"
 said Wormuth. "Serving our nation is a calling, and one that is 
fundamentally hopeful. We want a new generation of Americans to see the 
Army as a pathway to the lives and careers they want to achieve."

The brand transformation was a multiyear, research-based 
process designed to reflect today’s Army accurately and authentically, 
while addressing the needs of a new generation. The brand’s new look and
 feel consists of a reengineered five-point star logo — (the box has 
been removed to reflect the limitless possibilities in the Army) coupled
 with the return of the popular “Be All You Can Be” tagline.

The logo and tagline are a part of a full-brand ecosystem that helps 
tell the Army story visually and verbally, including a new custom font, 
an expanded color palette, new iconography, photography, motion graphics
 and more.

“All good brands must evolve to reflect internal and 
external changes to ensure an accurate depiction of the organization 
that also meets audience needs,” said Maj. Gen. Alex Fink, Chief of Army
 Enterprise Marketing. “We know youth seek purpose, passion, community 
and connection, but we also know many don’t recognize the Army’s ability
 to deliver on those needs. We need a brand that effectively 
communicates the possibilities of Army service.”

“’Be All You Can Be’ is a phrase that has inspired many 
generations of Soldiers, and its promise still rings true today,” said

At the center of the brand rollout are two films narrated 
by Emmy and Critics’ Choice Award nominated actor Jonathan Majors, star 
of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “Creed III.” With

“Overcoming Obstacles” and “Pushing Tomorrow” — showcase Army service as
 a driver of possibilities and serve as a bridge between the past and

These films and the multifaceted, multichannel campaign bringing them
 to audiences nationwide will be coupled with a mix of bold, immersive 
promotional assets across television, print, digital billboards, 
streaming video, social and community platforms, and audio channels. The

Madness tournament with on-site activations, broadcast showcases, and
